Personal Narrative On Closet
Dark at two For the last time Brent, there is nothing in that closet. There never has been and there
never will. Just go to bed. And I will not leave the light on in the hall. You are fourteen, grow up.
My parents never seem to understand my fear of the dark, and of my closet. They tell me over and
over that there is nothing in that closet. They think I am too old to be afraid of something like that.
When I tell them that things get changed in my roomat night they never seem to believe me either.
I have taken pictures of my stuff before I go to bed, and then taken pictures of it in the morning,
evidence that my stuff has been moved, and they still don t believe me. Tonight is just another one
of those nights. I guess mom had a bad day because she is really... Show more content on

I speedily ran back to my room. I donned my slippers and my winter coat, and placed a winter cap
on my head. I grabbed my massive flashlight and headed out of the door. I happened to look at my
clock and stopped dead in my tracks. The clock read 2 o clock on the mark. I stood there, dazedly
staring at the clock. I turned the light on in my room and ran out into the hallway. I ran through the
entire house flipping on lights madly looking for anything I could find. There was nothing,
absolutely nothing that would help me find my mom. I ran out onto the porch and stared out
into the pitch black night. What was happening? I walked to the edge of the clearing that our
house sat on and followed the driveway for awhile. Suddenly my flashlight died and I found
myself totally enclosed in darkness. I began to shake. I walked forward, or what I thought was
forward, until I tripped and fell. I groped around and found that I was completely surrounded by
trees. I got up and walked back the way I thought I had come. I tripped again and tore my pants. I
got back up and stumbled like this in the dark for what seemed like an eternity. I wandered for
what seemed like hours. Suddenly I heard a sound. I stopped dead

Critical Role Of Disease Prevention In The United States
People living with prevalent chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and
chronic lung disease account for 75% of healthcare expenditures in the United States (Ahn, Basu,
Smith, Luohua, Loring, Whitelaw, Ory, 2013) . Preventing disease has the potential to
significantly reduce healthcare cost. Healthy people do not visit the doctor s office or emergency
room as much as an individual with a chronic disease or illness, which decreases healthcare cost. It
is important that people are educated on how to live a healthy lifestyle, and make better choices in
order to prevent disease and illness from occurring.
The reorientation of primary health care towards prevention is fundamental to addressing the rising
burden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primary prevention stops the disease from occurring. Several gaps in the healthcare system exist,
and patients are not receiving preventative care and screenings to prevent mortality and morbidity
(Owens, Beckles, Ho, Gorrell, Brady, and Kaftarian, 2008). It should be the individual s
responsibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but patients depend on their doctors to provide step by
step instruction on how to stay healthy. Many medical physicians do not promote disease
prevention and health promotion. Instead, prescription medications and surgery are the only
treatments being offered. Dr. Oz stated on one of his shows that he was trained to always persuade
the patient to have surgery. It was called heal with steel. Medication can sometimes cause worse
symptoms than the disease itself. Many people are turning to naturopathic or holistic doctors that
provide natural treatments to their conditions. Functional medicine physicians focus on the root
cause of the problem, and treat the disease with supplements and diet changes. The goal of a
functional medicine doctor is to reverse disease, and teach the patients how to live a healthy life
style forever. Diseases that have been reversed are rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid
conditions, chohn s disease, cancer, and many others. Googling Chris beats cancer tells the

Harassment Towards Women Playing Educational Sports
Sports have always been an intrical part of America s culture and society, from playing baseball
in the front yard to knocking a homerun out of the ballpark, but this playing in the fields only
applied to boys. Unfortunately, before Title Nine was established in 1972, there was a great deal
of harassment towards women playing educational sports. This new amendment to the Civil Acts,
broke down the barriers for women, and demanded proportionality between men s and women s
athletic programs. Due to the way of society 35 years ago, Title Nine was necessary for women to
receive equal rights in educational sports. Title Nine, an act passed in 1972, prohibits
discrimination in all areas of educationand provides equality for both men and women in
education systems. However, Title Nine is most importantly known for its athletic achievements
and endeavors. This federal law, in regards to educational athletic programs, states that no person
in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the
benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving
federal financial assistance , according to the Forum of Public Policy. In other words, females are
allowed to play in sports in educational athletic programs and receive the same equal opportunities
and treatment as male athletes. Separate teams must be provided for males and females, otherwise
both shall be allowed to try out for the same team.

Critiques of Sara Rimer’s A Lost Moment Recaptured and...
Critique #1
Rimer s A Lost Moment Recaptured (2000) provides readers with stories of women s lives who
have returned to college through Smith College s Ada Comstock Scholars Program. These stories
intertwine with evidence supporting the implied claim; the typical college student is no longer the
18 to 20 year old. Providing intimate details about the lives of these diverse women, Rimer leaves
the reader admiring their triumph over gendered expectations of generations past by going back to
college.
Rimer hooks the reader immediately in the opening paragraph by describing a transforming
moment in an older woman s life. The woman was leaving her life and beginning anew; she was
going back to college. The women in Rimer s essay range in ... Show more content on

Rimer advocates that older women were faced with negative attitudes of previous generations
concerning the necessity of college attendance. This partnered with today s flexible opportunities
provided by women s colleges tailored for these women have caused the recent influx of college
students being women over the age of 30. This causal claim ties nicely to Rimer s general
evaluative claim: The typical college student is no longer 18 to 20 years old.
Critique #2
Mosher s Where Have All the Heroes Gone? (1998) questions the role sports athletes play in today
s society. Mosher takes the reader through the history of sport and its evolution in the United States.
This lays the foundation to his evaluation that society should not expect someone to possess the
characteristics of a hero simply because they are a sports athlete.
Mosher attempts to draw the reader in to the essay by starting off with quotes from top box office
movies The Natural and Bull Durham. Mosher assumes the readers have seen these movies about
fictional sports heroes and their flaws; he is writing to his audience, the sports fan. He goes on to
highlight poor character traits of sports celebrities by detailing some disturbing incidents they were
involved in. Mosher assumes the reader is aware of the factuality of these instances; there is no
supporting evidence.
The phrase celebrity is not fame (para.6) is awkward. According to the Merriam Webster

Minor Characters In Macbeth Essay
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare, the play s genre is a tragedy. The play is about
Macbeth who kills the King of Scotland (Duncan) so he can become king himself. It is the minor
characters in Macbeth who attract our interest, this is shown in the three paragraphs below in which
Banquo, Duncan and Malcolm are classed as minor characters and how they attract our interest.
Banquo s role throughout the play is to be dramatic which then provides an effective foil for
Macbeth. The temptations of the witches were shown to be avoided by Banquo resulting Macbeth
to act somewhat normal. Equal in status to Macbeth as a commander, and similarly ambitious
Banquo expresses unshakeable moral principles and an ability to tell right from wrong. He warns
Macbeth the witches may be instruments of darkness and not be trusted. When Macbeth hints that
they might plot together, Banquo states firmly he will keep his allegiance clear . After Duncan s
body is discovered, he publicly declares: in the great hand of God I stand and resolves to fight

Duncan is shown as a character who is noble, wise and loyal. He is honourable and isn t detained
by the likes of corruption. Macbeth quotes that Duncan hath been so clear in his great office, his
virtues will plead like angels . But Duncan may have so many great qualities but one of his flaw
is to be too trusting. He realised this when he made an error with the unfaithful Thane of
Cawdor: he was a gentleman on whom I built an absolute trust . The next line is Enter Macbeth
which is ironic in what happens later in the play. This is the scene in which Macbeth s attitude
changes completely. He is now full of anger and has turned evil which result in a deadly murder.
But Duncan s flaw would cost him his life as well as leaving the country of Scotland in the grasp of
an evil human as well as a civil

For example, the Monkton Fly Shop in Maryland will be cleaning six wader wash stations so
waders can be cleaned from invasive species. These wash stations are there to wash invasive
species off of waders so invasive species are not transferred into the Chesapeake Bay. The fly
shop s twice weekly online fishing report (www.backwaterangler.com) regularly reminds
Gunpowder anglers to wash, scrub, and rinse their boots and wading shoes (Anonymous 2011).
Felt soles on the waders trap invasive species within the felt and when the waders are used again
the invasive species are transferred to that water source. The Maryland Department of Natural
Resources is following actions already taken by New Zealand, Alaska, and Vermont to prohibit the
use of felt soles (Anonymous 2011).
Scientists studying fish in the Chesapeake Bay stated that they have discovered mycobacteria in
some of the fish, causing ulcers, emaciation and sometimes death. The article also talks about this
kind of mycobacteria having harmful effects on humans. People should be more careful about
dealing with fish in the Chesapeake Bay. While the scientists are still studying and learning about
this new discovery, they are also looking into and leaning towards prevention. According to the
article, Mycobacteria isolated from Chesapeake Bay fish , Studies are currently underway to

Observation Essay On Revolution Youth
Observation Essay: Revolution Youth The group that I observed is called Revolution Youth. It
is the youth group at a church in East Prairie, Missouri. The members in this group are between
the ages thirteen years old and eighteen years old. The group meets once a week on Sunday
evenings at six in the evening. This group meets so they can worship their God and celebrate in
him with one another. Revolution Youth was created so teenage Christians that go to Full
Gospel Church could worship God in their own ways together. All the members hope to be able
to get more people to come to God and help them find salvation. This youth group uses multiple
forms of communication to allow all the members of it to know when meetings change or if
something happened to one of the members. Some of the forms of communication they use are
texting, phone calls, meetings, and Facebook. Every service that Revolution Youth holds is held
in the Full Gospel sanctuary. Each meeting begins with a prayer asking God to bless them and
help them receive what he has for them that night. The next thing that will happen is the praise
and worship band for Revolution Youth will come to the stage to begin praise and worship.
During praise and worship, they will sing on average six or seven songs. During the end of
praise and worship, the song leader will call alter call. There are usually three or four of the youth
group s member that go to the altar during altar call. After everyone has gone back to the

Fashion Promotion in 5 Years Essay
What is the role of fashion promotion within the fashion industry, and how will it develop over the
next 5 years?
Fashion promotion is the glue that holds together everything fashion related. It s all very well
having a great designer who can create stunning garments out of fabulous materials, but fashion
promotion is what advertises those garments, and sells them, and puts them out there for the world
to see. If there weren t photographers and buyers and journalists and stylists (who are all a part
fashion promotion) we wouldn t have ever seen a catwalk show, or brought a Fendi bag, or picked
up a copy of VOGUE. If it wasn t for fashion promotion we could all be walking down the street in

geometric shapes and patterns with shadows. His aim was to create the best possible lighting to

were poised, almost static. In a general sense, Huene s style was the quint essence of early Thirties

Contemporary t.v. in today s society has taken up a vast amount of time in people s life. People

Similar to what Dana Stevens is taking about in finding credibility in a television like 24, Jason
Zinser looks at this question in his article, The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show. . Zinser
addresses both the benefits and downfalls of television, but ultimately ends up taking a stand
somewhere in the middle of how t.v. is both good and bad for people. Zinser s believes that The
Daily Show can be used as a starting point from which people can gain an understanding of
current events but it s not the most useful way. He claims that this type of information people
gain from watching a comedy news show can be both useful but damaging. The question that
needs to be addressed though, is why does it matter where people are gaining their knowledge
about the world and critical events as long as they are gaining some knowledge from what they re
watching. As Zinser states, An informed public is the grease that keeps democracy running
properly. Although foreign and domestic issues aren t settled by popular vote, an informed public
wields great democratic power . It doesn t matter whether information comes from a comedy news
show or from a hard hitting formal newscast, any information that a person gains from television is
far better than receiving no information at all, because if the public is informed about the news in
the world they have an understanding of it and could possibly make decision about things

Rosin Esters Lab Report
ESTERIFICATION OF ROSIN TO MAKE ESTER GUM
Esterification : It is a reaction between alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce esters.
The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with
various alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular
weight and functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester.
Glycerol with three reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single
hydroxyl group and tri ethylene glycol with two reactive sites are used to produce liquid and low

Lacquer is a wood polish; it is the chemical added to wood to give it the smooth and shiny
properties. Without it, the wood of a piano would be a lot more difficult to work with, shrinking
the lifespan of the common piano by years if not decades. Without lacquer, the piano and other
hammered string instruments may have never become the influential instruments they are today.
WHAT IS LACQUER EXACTLY? Lacquer is a polymer of many different bases that when
coated on a wooden substance, offers a layer of protection and gloss to a piece of wood. The
most common lacquer used on piano frames is a urushiol based lacquer. Urushiol is a common
allergen found in many Anacardiaceae plants such as poison ivy. It has a boiling point of
200Лљ C (392Лљ F) and can dissolve in substances such as alcohol. It is composed of a 6 carbon
ring with 3 double bonds similar to benzene, 2 hydroxyl groups, and an R group. The R group
varies from a large amount of hydrocarbons (such as (CH2)14CH3, (CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)5CH3,

Human Nature And Human Nature In The Destructors
Human nature in the Destructors
The setting of the story happened in Blitzkrieg, London after World War II ended. The characters
that the story consists of are mainly teenage boys who had created a gang known as Wormsley
Common Gang. Their group continuously meets everyday beside the house of Mr. Thomas or Old
Misery. When they had to decided to make decisions for the gangit was made through voting. T or
(Trevor), the main character in the story, suggested that the gang should demolish Mr. Thomas

under the leadership of T and which the story ended with the destruction of the house.
The story reflects action and adventure, since the gang would do things that can be considered as
daring, especially for their age. The story also has a mix of suspense, especially on the last part
wherein Mr. Thomas had gone back home earlier than expected. Nevertheless, the short storyis not
merely a fiction made to entertain its readers rather, it reflects the factual realities viewed during the
period it pertains such as delinquency, war and human nature. This essay would analyze the story in
connection to the delinquency and war which reveals human nature. Human nature would be

The roles and responsibilities were defined by what was inherited from the generations prior and
to a significant degree, these beliefs had a connection with the laws of God disseminated through
the church. As a result, such roles and responsibilities were strongly entrenched hence to
challenge them would result in making the person an outcast. Gender as a whole is a crucial
element to the construction of a society. European women in the nineteenth century lived in the
age of gender inequality and therefore women of both upper and middle class had no
occupational choices and stayed home caring for the children and the house, while men were out
working and bringing home the money. This discourse is considered the norm and as Mary
Klages explains in Literary Theory, she refers to the poststructuralist theories that signifies gender
as attached to sexually dimorphic bodies, which signify the division of social practices and
relations into binary oppositions of male/female and masculine/feminine (Klages 2006, pg. 91

definition of women. Whilst the advocating of social equality within society is an intellectual way

The mining industry in developing nations often lacks the enforcement of ethical principles, laws
and regulations. I therefore believe developing nations are better off without large mining
companies operating within them. Mining majors can use force to get there way and this often
includes political involvement and corruption. Mining companies often overlook the artisanal
miners, that use the mine as their lone source of income, and move them out from the mines. The
impact on locals is not usually not taken into account when a new mine is set up. Mining

As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing
nations are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility
for government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because
the country is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and
fair treatment of local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners
live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of
ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then
they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has
always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide
housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away
from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the
Canadian mining company in Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies
seek new avenues of revenue they are increasingly turning to the developing world. In developing
countries mining is used by locals as a source of income when farms fail, which is becoming
increasingly common with global warming. The increasing number of artisanal miners causes

Conventional and Irregular Warfare
Giulio Douhet, in his seminal treatise on air power titled The Command of the Air, argued, A man
who wants to make a good instrument must first have a precise understanding of what the
instrument is to be used for; and he who intends to build a good instrument of war must first ask
himself what the next warwill be like. The United States (US) military establishment has been
asking itself this exact question for hundreds of years, in an attempt to be better postured for the
future. From the Civil War, through the American Indian Wars, and up until World War II (WWII)
the American military s way of war consisted of fighting traditional, or conventional, wars focused
on total annihilation of an enemy. Since that time, there has been a gradual shift from the traditional
framework towards one that can properly address non traditional, or irregular wars. While the US
maintains a capability to conduct conventional warfare, the preponderance of operations where the
US military has been engaged since WWII have been irregular wars. Therefore, this question
articulated by Douhet, as to understanding the character of the next war in order to properly plan,
train, and equip, is certainly germane to the current discussion of regular war versus irregular war.
In today s fiscally constrained environment, the questions remains, which will dominate the future
and therefore, garner further funding and priority. Based on the current threats and the US role as a
superpower, the US

As a member of the LGBT+ community I consider myself to have a lot of knowledge on the
issues and topics within the community. I realized, however, after a few lectures that I really did
not know very much about the history of the LGBT+ community, I just knew about the modern
issues and topics. Coincidently I also did not know much about topics in the LGBT+ community
either. I had known about Stonewall and about the LGBT+ treatment in Nazi concentration camps,
however I did not really know much else. Accordingly, I did not realize how little I knew about
Stonewall as an LGBT+ event, all I knew was that it was the start of the revolution in LGBT+
activism and rights, I also knew that someone threw something at a cop and it started the riots,...

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh s Bohemia Lies By The Sea
Vincent van Gogh s, Wheat Field with Cypresses, and Anselm Kiefer s, Bohemia Lies by the Sea,
are astonishing pieces of art located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both artists put a large
amount of thought and time in the creation of their work with the intentions of conveying specific
understandings to the viewers. Although they may appear extremely different at first glance, they
are in fact very similar, whether it is in process, intention, or in context. Both of these pieces are
very significant to the history and development of art throughout time and have inspired several
artists across the world. In late June or early July of 1889, Vincent van Goghwas in a period of

The composition was made in 1996, using Oil, emulsion, shellac, charcoal, and powdered paint

(www.metmuseum.org). Its enormous size alone will seize the viewer s attention. The
landscape that the painting portrays is a vast field bisected by a rutted road receding in
dramatically deep perspective towards a high horizon line. In Kiefer s painting, the field is
covered with poppies conveyed in a manner persistent with its deep perspective. The poppies are
an emblem of military veterans, whose presence is perhaps suggested by occasional drips of
paint the color of dried blood. Also representing remembrance and forgetting, the orange and
pink poppy flowers embody the only bright colors in the painting. The rest of the piece is made
of analogous shades of green, blue, and gray. The piece grabs the viewer not by its aesthetic
beauty, but by the physicality of its extremely thick, unbalanced, jagged layers of paint and
material that project off the canvas in layers heavy both in meaning and in the actual density of
their application. In regards to the title; Bohemia Lies by the Sea, It references the poem by the
Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann, in which the writer details the yearning for utopian society
while lamenting its fallacy (www.theartstory.org). Anselm Kiefe does a wonderful with creating

How Did China s Growth Have Contributed To The British Museum
According to the British Museum, growth can be attributed to two main factors: the support of the
general population and royal patronage. Introduced by merchants during the 6th century AD
Buddhism had spread throughout Cambodia and to China during 50 AD. Another strong hold that
allowed the religion of Buddhismto blossom was the conversion of Ashoka to Buddhism. By
broadcasting his beliefs on inscribed stones and pillars Ashoka gave Buddhism the royal support it
needed to thrive, he also sent Buddhist missionaries all over Asia making it as far as Syria.
Eventually Buddhist philosophical schools began to rise and teach the religion, such as two
prestigious schools in China, Hua Yen and T ien t ai.

Self Regulation In Middle School
Self regulation
Eisenberg (2010) defines effortful control as the efficiency of executive attention including the
ability to inhibit a dominant response and/or activate a subdominant response, to plan, and to detect
errors . Eisenberg argues that effortful control is indirectly related to academic success through
motivation. Eisenberg goes on to state that children with high effortful control are more likely to
behave in productive, pro social ways and they are more socially competent. This increased
motivation is hypothesized to lead to higher academic achievement. Metacognitive perspective
enhances self regulation of students thereby enabling them to have behavioral responses that aid in
academic performance. For example, when at home: parents engage their children in mathematics
activities like ordering numbered ice cubes from the refrigerator, and as such enhancing the self
regulatory skills of their children. With regards to this subject, the ability to work by themselves
and stay on task without direct teacher intervention or supervision has been proposed as essential to
successfully transitioning from elementary to middle school (Eisenber, 2010). Subsequently, middle

Rock And Roll Music Analysis
Rock n Roll music is a subgenre of the meta genre, Rock. Freed (2009, 169) described it by saying,
rock n roll is really swing with a modern name. Ennis (1992, 253) identifies, First, early rocknroll
allowed every performer to draw on the full musical resources of pop, country, and rhythm and
blues. and on rockhall.com (2014) his viewpoint is expanded upon,
The more immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the so called race music, or rhythm blues, and
hillbilly music, or county western of the Forties and Fifties. Other significant influences include
blues, jazz, gospel, boogie woogie, folk and bluegrass.
Rock n Roll drew inspiration from many different styles therefore it is a hybrid of multiple genres.

Generally, the time signature of Rock n Roll is 4/4, as it is in Pop, Country, Blues and many
other genres that Rock n Roll is inspired by. For the purpose of Rock n Roll, we can assume the
common time signature is 4/4 because it is simple and easy to move to. You didn t need to be a
skilled dancer to dance to it, essentially why it was kept simple. Rock n Roll makes use of
syncopation and as songs of this genre are usually in 4/4, the emphasis is on beats 2 and 4.
Snowman (2009, 220) emphasises the importance of syncopation by saying, All dance music makes
use of this, and it s often a vital element that helps tie the whole track together.
All these ingredients combined helps create the energetic beat, arguably the most identified
ingredient of Rock n Roll.
Although the foundation of the beat is very similar to that of Rhythm and Blues, it is clear to see
how Rock n Roll has built upon it, when we listen to the music. Initially, Rock n Roll songs were
often just recreated versions of existing Rhythm and Blues songs. Big Joe Turner s song Shake,

published in Midwest Quarterly, vol. 11, no. 4, 1970, pp. 443 456. Bort, in his essay Winesburg,
Ohio: The Escape from Isolation, briefly examines the characters in many of the short stories
included in Winesburg as they fail to both understand each other and to connect with other
members of the town. Working chronologically, Bort specifically mentions: The Book of the
Grotesques, Hands, Paper Pills, Godliness, Adventure, and Tandy pointing to their contribution to
the major themes of Winesburg, Ohio. He begins his analysis comparing Hands and Paper Pills as
he asserts that their relationship is central to Anderson s message. He applies each example to this
pair of stories with opposing representations of isolation, and in the end, relates the structure and
content of the collection of stories to his conclusion about the true nature of the book being the
description of what Anderson calls significant moments. Bort s essay is made up largely of
summaries of each story, and though this may be effective in illustrating his argument, the amount
of quotation used is excessive to one who has read the collection beforehand. Additionally, Bort
provides several examples of his points to the point of

Tourism in Australia has evolved over the years and continues to increase to this day, however it is

potentially threatening for, not only the reef of lady Elliot Island, however, the corals surrounding
it. International visitations within Australia alone reached 3.9 million visitors within the first 7
months of 2014, which was an increase of approximately 9.5%, a number which continues to rise

Although scientists are not able to depict exactly when humans first came into contact with the reef,
evidential estimations state that the Great Barrier Reef was first formed approximately 500,000
years ago, with the current reef state being formed about 6,000 to 8,000 years old.
Coral reefs exist all over the world and are generally known as being one of the most diverse,
intricate and beautiful of all existing marine habitats. They have many varying structures which are
developed by algae and are symbiotic with various reef building corals which are referred to as,
zooxanthellae (algae). There are many other factors such as, coralline algae, sponges and other
various organisms that are combined with a number of cementation processes which also contribute
to reef growth, (CORAL REEFS, 2015).
As can be seen in appendix 2, Lady Elliot Island is located, approximately 46 nautical miles north
east off the coast of Bundaberg and is accessed from the Hervey Bay airport. The island covers
an estimated area of approximately 45 hectares. Lady Elliot Island itself caters for approximately
150 day guests, and 100 overnight guests at the one given time and offers various activities such as,
reef walking, scuba diving, night trail walking, glass bottom boat tours and various, fish feeding,
bird watching and guided tour activities. By

Describe theories relating to personality and how they...
There are varying theories relating to personality, with each theory giving a different viewpoint on
how personality affects sporting performance. One of these theories is the Trait Theory (Eysenck)
which originally stated that there were only two personality types (introvert and extrovert) but
over time realised that this limited the theory and introduced two more personality traits (stable
and neurotic). Each one of these personality types has its own unique affect on a sports
performance. An introvert for example is seen to be shy and tends to choose a solo sport, and this
sport is likely to be one that contains small muscle movements such as darts. This personality trait
would affect sporting performance if the performer was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory can lead to both positive and negative affects on a sports performance. For example
a sports performer who watches a more experienced player may copy the approach taken by the
more experienced player possibly leading to an eventual improvement in his or her own level of
skill. This can also be spun on its head though, if a performer is watching (football for example)
and witnesses a player successfully dive this might cause the performer to try and replicate this
negative action leading to a decline in performance. One final theory relating to personality is the
interactionist theory; this theory states that personality has three levels that interact to form an
individual s personality and is based on the work of Hollander (1967). This theory describes how
a person s typical responses change according to varying environmental situations, therefore
meaning behaviour becomes unpredictable. This theory also explains why a performers
personality can change depending on the situation they re placed in. When combined with
Eysenck s trait theory this becomes easier to explain how personality affects sports performance.
An example of this would be that a person in day to day life could be seen as introverted, but
when they partake in sport their traits can change and they can become and extrovert based on the
situation they are place in e.g. a football

The Great Recession Of 2008 Was A Worldwide Economic Downturn
The Great Recession of 2008 was a worldwide economic downturn that impacted the global
economy. Economists consider the economic decline as one of the most damaging recessions that
occurred since the Great Depression of 1930 s. Several documentations and research regarding
the recession have been made to make a better understanding of the economic downturn in 2008
as well as the global economy as a whole. The book used as reference in this essay, the Diary Of A
Very Bad Year: Confessions of an Anonymous Hedge Fund Manager, captured the events
corresponding to the length of the Great Recessionthrough separate interviews of an anonymous
hedge fund manager (HFM). The interviews contain information shared by HFM that describes the

HFM s experience as a hedge fund manager gives value into this information and the authority to
describe what started the crisis. The advantage that follows from the source regarding this idea is
that it recorded information that described the creation of the mortgage bubble in the financial
market, and the damage dealt to the financial system when the mortgage market crashed from a
finance expert. The disadvantage is that the subprime market might not be the only reason of the
misallocation of resources, given the fact that HFM s hedge fund was involved in the subprime
market which might have formed a biased opinion on that matter (18 19). The nature of the source
does not complicate the idea of the cause of the crisis, although concluding that the subprime
market was the main cause could complicate the subject. This clearly shows that the idea of the
misallocation of resources within the book had negatively impacted the financial system that built
the momentum of the economic decline. Another main idea in the book is the linkages of the
financial system to the real economy during the recession. In the duration of the financial crisis,
unemployment as well as job loss increased, wage eroded, and companies and businesses closing
were in significant numbers (66; 83). In a more specific example, the Reserve Primary

Groupon Case Study
1. Coupons have been around forever, so why has Groupon become successful?
I believe that Groupon has become successful for many different reasons. First of all, Groupon was
the first to transport the traditional Coupon clipping to the online world. This opened many
opportunities. It was something new, exciting to consumers that they hadnВґt seen in this way. So
Groupon had a first mover advantage even though they only connected already existing ideas and
technologies in a new way. By being online Groupon could reach many, possibly millions, of people
at once. This was a strong argument when Groupon talked to local merchants. As most of these
merchants did not have an extensive marketing budget and were not necessarily familiar with new

Making the offers timesensitive triggers a feeling in consumers that they might miss out on a
chance that will not repeat itself if they donВґt act now. Many even bought vouchers that they never
redeemed, just not to miss out on an opportunity. In this sense Groupon is speaking to the risk
aversion of the majority of people. The thrill of seeing how much time is left on a coupon and
how many others are acting as well, appeals to a personВґs addictive behavior. We wantto repeat
the thrill of the bargain hunt. Groupon then made many moves to foster and expand its initial
success. It expanded rapidly into more cities and later on even more countries. It fostered its
connection with social media and the online world by setting up an affiliate marketing program
that allowed bloggers and websites to earn commissions. This online referral was also expanded
by giving consumers a direct incentive to refer Groupon by offering them a 10$ reward towards a
future purchase. Groupon also heavily invested in paid search engine advertising and even created
an ad that was shown during half time of the super bowl. So, to sum up, Groupon made sure that
its existence spread as fast and as much as possible.
2. Local merchants have a mixed reaction about Groupon. What is your opinion is it good for
merchants or not?
In my opinion Groupon is not a ready to go solution to the problem of low marketing budgets of
many local merchants. If Groupon is good

Comparing Luhrman s Romeo And Juliet
The Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous of all time. Because this play
is so famous, there have been several Hollywood producers who have decided to recreate the
play using their own styles. One of those movies was directed by Baz Luhrman and was released
in 1996 and there is also a movie directed by Carlo Carlei which was released in 2013. Even
though these two movies were both based on the same play, they both have very different styles
in all of the aspects of the movie and also very similar styles. There are many ways that these two
films are different from one another. One of these differences is the deliveries of their lines. In
the 1996 version, you notice that the actors say their lines very swiftly. The lines are also very
close to the lines in the actual play, you could barely tell a difference. However, in the 2013
version the lines are delivered more calmly and collected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the play you picture the outfits they wear to be formal corset dresses and armour. They wear
all of these things in both movies. They also have very similar camera angles on the character in
the scenes. They both always do both close ups and far away shots of the sets and characters. As
well in both movies, the lines said by the characters are almost or fully accurate to the play itself
that you can barely even tell a difference in them. These are all significant because they help you
better understand the play of Romeo and Juliet and help you know more about the time periods. In
conclusion, both of these recreations of Romeo and Juliet definitely have their differences and
similarities. Both of these directors had a different vision of what their movies should look like and
how to incorporate the ideas of Shakespeare into their films. Even though they are both completely
different they both are great representations of the story and the characters

Semi-Detached Housing Changes
In Britain there has historically always been a belief that the ideal living situation is a married
heterosexual couple with children. In this lifestyle model the male of the house is the wage
earner and the woman holds responsibility for domestic chores and rising children. This model is
particular apparent in the working classes during the early 20th century. In the years following the
Second World War housing was designed and master planned in a way that embodied these
ideologies. These generalisations structured ideas about the location of new post war housing
laying the way for married women to be exploited in the low pay labour market. However rapid
social change following the war resulted in greater number of women being drawn into the... Show

These houses were amalgamation of retained social expectations of housework but also more

the ground floor, running hot water, internalised kitchen and bathing facilities. The extra living
space on the ground floor provided an area for families to engage with everyday life and again a

house really demonstrates the change of gender perspective during this time, it lessened the
separation of house tasks by bringing them closer to the family. The provision of hot running
water, electricity and internal washrooms helped ease some of the labour of housework,
beginning to liberate the housewife. It was however still expected that she would prepare and

Ultimately, all Achilles has left is death, and all surrounding Athens is death.
In death s atrocity, Achilles and the Athenians turn towards their self interests in hopes to regain
control and dignity. Achilles withdraws from the army in hopes they will recognize his worth,
thus restoring honor to him. The Greeks were stricken with unendurable grief yet his proud
spirit kept him from letting go of his anger. (Il. 9.4, 259). His inability to understand his
mortality and resulting lack of philotД“s pitched countless souls of heroes into Hades dark (Il.

own people. He complains to his mother that Agamemnon has taken away [his] prize and
dishonored him and playing a lyre by the shore, away from the war displaying death s reality (Il.

The Great Journey Of Vasilios Research Paper
The Great Journey of Vasilios
Vasilios, courageous king and understanding leader hears the pleas of his people and of his own
heart. It has been one month since the maritime pirates had come to his place of rule, Kyrenia on
the island of Cyprus, and taken what was most loved by the king and by all the kingdom; Callista,
Vasilios s only daughter. This abduction had stemmed from a failed marriagearrangement with the
prince of Smyrna, a distant land on the Aegean Sea. Callista was not happy with the arrangement
and begged her father to stop the deal and let her stay unmarried. Vasilios listened to his daughter
and declined the generous offer from the king of Smyrna. The king of Smyrna was enraged by
the refusal. He sent a band of pirates disguised as sea traders to capture Callista and bring her
back to Smyrna. The ruse worked and Callista was taken. The kingdom of Kyrenia entered a
period of upset at the loss of the beloved princess. Vasilios took action and put together a group of
sixty of his best men that he lead on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He orders the crew to continue on, wanting to explore this mysterious island, wondering if this
was a place they took Callista. They walk for hours from the shore, no one exactly sure what they
were looking for, or what they expected to find. At last, they reach the mouth of a great valley.
Vasilios, leading his crew stops, and as everyone catches up, they behold the mountainous valley.
Then they look closer, and there, down in the valley was something no one expected to find. Down
in the valley, they discovered gigantic, hairy, beasts. These enormous beasts had long, shaggy hair,
and two sharp, protruding tusks. Hundreds of these mammoth beasts were there at the bottom of
this valley on the strange, strange island. The crew became so frightened at the sight of these
shaggy monsters, they promptly turned around and hurriedly began the long journey back to

How do you think the family is feeling about this incident?
I think that Bob s family will also go through some of the stages of the grieving process. I think that
they would go through shock, denial, anger, guilt, and acceptance. Furthermore, I think they would
also have some fear.
Bob s family may have some shock and disbelief that he was involved in an accident. This may be
due to the fact that Bob has had so many years of experience driving and also teaching people to
drive safely. Furthermore, they may be surprised that he injured someone else. They will be happy
that Bob did not injury himself though.
Secondly. I think that they would be in denial of the whole situation. I feel that they may think that
their father could not have possibly been involved or at fault of the accident. This would be due to
the fact of Bob s experience and the trust that the family has in their loved one.
They family may also have some anger and frustration built up. They may be angered and
frustrated after looking at the police report that it was actually Bob s fault in the accident. They
may be frustrated that Bob did not admit that the accident was his fault. Furthermore, they may
also Fear for Bob s safety and the safety of others. If he hit a person this time. What might happen
the next time that he goes out on the road? Plus, Bob has no remorse. He does not feel it is his

A Summary Of The Injury In The Glass Castle
In Jeannette Walls s memoir, The Glass Castle, Jeannette and her siblings are constantly plagued
with various accidents and injuries, more so than typical children would be. Her parents have a
carefree and lenient approach to parenting, oftentimes leaving the children to fend for themselves or
in perilous situations. In The Glass Castle, Jeannette recounts some of the injuries she and her
siblings suffer, the reaction her parents have to those injuries, and the parallelepisodes they refer to.
One of the first appalling instances of Jeanette s various accidents occurs when she is cooking
hot dogs at the age of three. Walls writes: ...when I stood up and started stirring the hot dogs
again, I felt a blaze of heat on my right side and realized my dress was on fire (9). As a result,
Jeannette ended up having to be covered in ice and given skin grafts due to the severity of her
burns, despite this accidentbeing entirely preventable. While tragic, this occurred for a few
reasons, first because she was much too young to be maneuvering a hot stove, and furthermore
because she was not being supervised by any parent. Nonetheless, any adult could likely have
noticed the fire and put it out more quickly had they been in the room, leading to less acute injuries.
When Jeannette s mother did come, it was evident that she cared about the safety and well being
of her child: Mom ran into the room (9). Seeing as she came running rather than strolling, it can
be inferred that her mother is attentive and worried about her daughter; however, once in the
hospital, her father has an averse reaction to her injuries and the fact that she s in the hospital
when he says: You shouldn t be in this antiseptic joint (13). Most parents would fret over their
child and let the hospital do whatever they saw fit to help their child, but her father Rex doesn t
trust the hospital and potentially jeopardizes his daughter s health by not adhering to the hospital
s recommendations. A parallel episode to this tragic fire incident is when the family is staying at
a hotel and are woken up in the middle of the night by a fire. The whole building burns down,
similar to how Jeanette s favorite pink dress was completely singed and had to be cut

In the beginning, the slaves brought to England were regarded as the housekeepers or obligated
workers. Africans were captured by foreigners and locals like they were not humans and were
brought to the outside world for trade. Here they were sold to perform different jobs as their
master may require. They were sold to work in the fields of cocoa, coffee, tobacco, sugar, rice
and were also forced to do work for industries and mines. But in about 17th century all this has
gone worse than the past as masters hardened the slaves and the children of their slaves were also
slaves to them legally. They could be sold like goods to anyone at any time.
To break the chains of slavery Africans were trying hard and many foreigners were with them in
bringing many revolutions in this regard. In England 1741, Negro Election Day started which
was one of those steps of African toward freedom. The reason behind this day was the
participation of black representative in a local election and their traditional costumes, dances,
food, and parades were made on this day. They had the right to vote, which was not given in the
past. Same like this was the Pinkster Day celebrated as a religious festival by the locals, but the
Africans use it as a holiday to catch up with families and friends and have rest from tiring work
routine.
African Americas were not allowed to join Armed Forces but after the proclamation made by
President Lincoln in 1862; blacks can also become the part of the army.

famous destination to enjoy ski, peak period is winter, and non peak is summer. According to the
annual report on 2013, Club Med kept the average occupancy rate of 68.7% on 2012, which tells
that Club Med did not perform well. On that year, they did not have the same type of promotion,

Comparing The Genesis Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Throughout the Genesis Flood, Atrahasis Flood and the Epic of Gilgamesh flood, there are
many different ways to interpret the different views of The Flood. These different narratives in
these stories have their own explanation on how this myth took place and the different beliefs
that occurred during this flood. The way you portray each narrative is based on what exactly
your beliefs are. When comparing the Genesis Flood narrative to that of the Gilgamesh Flood
narrative, there are many similar symbols throughout both narratives. In the Genesis version of
the flood, God had chosen to send the flood because the humankind he had created was evil and
he saw their wickedness. For my par, I am going to bring a good of waters on the earth, to
destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth
shall die (Genesis 6:18). This excerpt from the narrative shows that one God had chosen to send
the flood to destroy all humankind that he had originally created. Just like this narrative, the
Gilgamesh Flood narrative, a God by the name of Enlil orders a flood to destroy humankind.
Decided that the great gods should make a flood (Gilgamesh XI 109). This quote states how that
a flood was to be sent for the city of Shuruppak. In the Genesis narrative there was a righteous
man by the name of Noah that was chosen to build the ark. Make yourself an ark of cypress
wood; make rooms in the ark and cover it inside and out with a pitch (Genesis

Titus Movie Essay
Titus (1999) is a movie adaption of one of the earliest and least known plays of Shakespeare, Titus
Andronicus . Directed by Julie Taymor, the movie takes you to another reality, and you can t quite
understand whether it is a dystopian future or a time mixed world. From soldiers using swords, to
using guns, from riding horses to motorcycles and tanks, you are left with the unanswered question
to which point in time the story is taking place. The movie, as bloody and gruesome as the play is
visually beautiful and sometimes difficult to watch.
The movie starts with a little boy playing in the kitchen in a twisted way with toy soldiers and
after an explosion he get s taken to ancient Rome in the middle of Coliseum. He then becomes part
of the whole story, sometimes even making you wonder if the whole movie is being dreamed by
the little boy. Titus(Anthony Hopkins) returns victorious in Rome after years of fighting against
the Goths. He comes back with his last four living sons , the captured Queen of Goths Tamora
(Jessica Lange) , her two sons and Aaron the Moor (Harry Lennix). He sacrifices Tamora s eldest
son despite her begging and tears, making this way a mortal enemy and planting ... Show more

We witness death to death the destructive power of revenge and Julie Taymorhas done a great job
by making it an all time tragedy. The costumes are a mixture between ancient times capes and
soldier uniforms with nowadays black leather jackets. The metallic, black, white, red and blue
colors used for the costumes are purposefully chosen to give a cold image and uneasiness. The
change of the setting from ancient Rome to a fascist Italy, the change of music from orchestral, to
rock, to jazz to electronic styles it just gives the movie a time travel feeling. And all is done so
smoothly it feels that everything flows

for the things that were make believe. King Arthur was portrayed in many different aspects
especially through literature and history. King Arthur was portrayed throughout history and was
well known. He was a Celtic leader, and he was a warrior of Roman affiliation who led British
military against the Saxon (BBC News). Scholars believe Ambrosius Aurelianus, who was a war
hero, he was the real Arthur. Michael Wood believes King Arthur
was a heroic figure from the Celtic
tribe. Others thought Lucius Artorius Castus who was a Roman commander may have been Arthur
(King Arthur and Camelot). The Empire withdrew and the last remaining militia had been sent to
the Continent as a fail to go to war with Rome. The people of Britain were now left open to attack
from all sides, and their way of life crumbled. The earliest legends of Arthur say that he was a
military commander who helped to organize the British, and led successful battles against the
invaders (King Arthur: An Introduction). King Arthur s actions positively affected historical

  • 2. Personal Narrative On Closet Dark at two For the last time Brent, there is nothing in that closet. There never has been and there never will. Just go to bed. And I will not leave the light on in the hall. You are fourteen, grow up. My parents never seem to understand my fear of the dark, and of my closet. They tell me over and over that there is nothing in that closet. They think I am too old to be afraid of something like that. When I tell them that things get changed in my roomat night they never seem to believe me either. I have taken pictures of my stuff before I go to bed, and then taken pictures of it in the morning, evidence that my stuff has been moved, and they still don t believe me. Tonight is just another one of those nights. I guess mom had a bad day because she is really... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I speedily ran back to my room. I donned my slippers and my winter coat, and placed a winter cap on my head. I grabbed my massive flashlight and headed out of the door. I happened to look at my clock and stopped dead in my tracks. The clock read 2 o clock on the mark. I stood there, dazedly staring at the clock. I turned the light on in my room and ran out into the hallway. I ran through the entire house flipping on lights madly looking for anything I could find. There was nothing, absolutely nothing that would help me find my mom. I ran out onto the porch and stared out into the pitch black night. What was happening? I walked to the edge of the clearing that our house sat on and followed the driveway for awhile. Suddenly my flashlight died and I found myself totally enclosed in darkness. I began to shake. I walked forward, or what I thought was forward, until I tripped and fell. I groped around and found that I was completely surrounded by trees. I got up and walked back the way I thought I had come. I tripped again and tore my pants. I got back up and stumbled like this in the dark for what seemed like an eternity. I wandered for what seemed like hours. Suddenly I heard a sound. I stopped dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Critical Role Of Disease Prevention In The United States People living with prevalent chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and chronic lung disease account for 75% of healthcare expenditures in the United States (Ahn, Basu, Smith, Luohua, Loring, Whitelaw, Ory, 2013) . Preventing disease has the potential to significantly reduce healthcare cost. Healthy people do not visit the doctor s office or emergency room as much as an individual with a chronic disease or illness, which decreases healthcare cost. It is important that people are educated on how to live a healthy lifestyle, and make better choices in order to prevent disease and illness from occurring. The reorientation of primary health care towards prevention is fundamental to addressing the rising burden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Primary prevention stops the disease from occurring. Several gaps in the healthcare system exist, and patients are not receiving preventative care and screenings to prevent mortality and morbidity (Owens, Beckles, Ho, Gorrell, Brady, and Kaftarian, 2008). It should be the individual s responsibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but patients depend on their doctors to provide step by step instruction on how to stay healthy. Many medical physicians do not promote disease prevention and health promotion. Instead, prescription medications and surgery are the only treatments being offered. Dr. Oz stated on one of his shows that he was trained to always persuade the patient to have surgery. It was called heal with steel. Medication can sometimes cause worse symptoms than the disease itself. Many people are turning to naturopathic or holistic doctors that provide natural treatments to their conditions. Functional medicine physicians focus on the root cause of the problem, and treat the disease with supplements and diet changes. The goal of a functional medicine doctor is to reverse disease, and teach the patients how to live a healthy life style forever. Diseases that have been reversed are rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid conditions, chohn s disease, cancer, and many others. Googling Chris beats cancer tells the ... • 4. Harassment Towards Women Playing Educational Sports Sports have always been an intrical part of America s culture and society, from playing baseball in the front yard to knocking a homerun out of the ballpark, but this playing in the fields only applied to boys. Unfortunately, before Title Nine was established in 1972, there was a great deal of harassment towards women playing educational sports. This new amendment to the Civil Acts, broke down the barriers for women, and demanded proportionality between men s and women s athletic programs. Due to the way of society 35 years ago, Title Nine was necessary for women to receive equal rights in educational sports. Title Nine, an act passed in 1972, prohibits discrimination in all areas of educationand provides equality for both men and women in education systems. However, Title Nine is most importantly known for its athletic achievements and endeavors. This federal law, in regards to educational athletic programs, states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance , according to the Forum of Public Policy. In other words, females are allowed to play in sports in educational athletic programs and receive the same equal opportunities and treatment as male athletes. Separate teams must be provided for males and females, otherwise both shall be allowed to try out for the same team. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Critiques of Sara Rimer’s A Lost Moment Recaptured and... Critique #1 Rimer s A Lost Moment Recaptured (2000) provides readers with stories of women s lives who have returned to college through Smith College s Ada Comstock Scholars Program. These stories intertwine with evidence supporting the implied claim; the typical college student is no longer the 18 to 20 year old. Providing intimate details about the lives of these diverse women, Rimer leaves the reader admiring their triumph over gendered expectations of generations past by going back to college. Rimer hooks the reader immediately in the opening paragraph by describing a transforming moment in an older woman s life. The woman was leaving her life and beginning anew; she was going back to college. The women in Rimer s essay range in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rimer advocates that older women were faced with negative attitudes of previous generations concerning the necessity of college attendance. This partnered with today s flexible opportunities provided by women s colleges tailored for these women have caused the recent influx of college students being women over the age of 30. This causal claim ties nicely to Rimer s general evaluative claim: The typical college student is no longer 18 to 20 years old. Critique #2 Mosher s Where Have All the Heroes Gone? (1998) questions the role sports athletes play in today s society. Mosher takes the reader through the history of sport and its evolution in the United States. This lays the foundation to his evaluation that society should not expect someone to possess the characteristics of a hero simply because they are a sports athlete. Mosher attempts to draw the reader in to the essay by starting off with quotes from top box office movies The Natural and Bull Durham. Mosher assumes the readers have seen these movies about fictional sports heroes and their flaws; he is writing to his audience, the sports fan. He goes on to highlight poor character traits of sports celebrities by detailing some disturbing incidents they were involved in. Mosher assumes the reader is aware of the factuality of these instances; there is no supporting evidence. The phrase celebrity is not fame (para.6) is awkward. According to the Merriam Webster ... • 6. Minor Characters In Macbeth Essay Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare, the play s genre is a tragedy. The play is about Macbeth who kills the King of Scotland (Duncan) so he can become king himself. It is the minor characters in Macbeth who attract our interest, this is shown in the three paragraphs below in which Banquo, Duncan and Malcolm are classed as minor characters and how they attract our interest. Banquo s role throughout the play is to be dramatic which then provides an effective foil for Macbeth. The temptations of the witches were shown to be avoided by Banquo resulting Macbeth to act somewhat normal. Equal in status to Macbeth as a commander, and similarly ambitious Banquo expresses unshakeable moral principles and an ability to tell right from wrong. He warns Macbeth the witches may be instruments of darkness and not be trusted. When Macbeth hints that they might plot together, Banquo states firmly he will keep his allegiance clear . Some of the forms of communication they use are texting, phone calls, meetings, and Facebook. Every service that Revolution Youth holds is held in the Full Gospel sanctuary. Each meeting begins with a prayer asking God to bless them and help them receive what he has for them that night. The next thing that will happen is the praise and worship band for Revolution Youth will come to the stage to begin praise and worship. The television shows that people watch today are a primary form of entertainment for a majority of America, along with conveying information to viewers. Similar to what Dana Stevens is taking about in finding credibility in a television like 24, Jason Zinser looks at this question in his article, The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show. . Zinser addresses both the benefits and downfalls of television, but ultimately ends up taking a stand somewhere in the middle of how t.v. is both good and bad for people. Zinser s believes that The Daily Show can be used as a starting point from which people can gain an understanding of current events but it s not the most useful way. He claims that this type of information people gain from watching a comedy news show can be both useful but damaging. The question that needs to be addressed though, is why does it matter where people are gaining their knowledge about the world and critical events as long as they are gaining some knowledge from what they re watching. As Zinser states, An informed public is the grease that keeps democracy running properly. Although foreign and domestic issues aren t settled by popular vote, an informed public wields great democratic power . It doesn t matter whether information comes from a comedy news show or from a hard hitting formal newscast, any information that a person gains from television is far better than receiving no information at all, because if the public is informed about the news in the world they have an understanding of it and could possibly make decision about things ... As a result, such roles and responsibilities were strongly entrenched hence to challenge them would result in making the person an outcast. Gender as a whole is a crucial element to the construction of a society. European women in the nineteenth century lived in the age of gender inequality and therefore women of both upper and middle class had no occupational choices and stayed home caring for the children and the house, while men were out working and bringing home the money. This discourse is considered the norm and as Mary Klages explains in Literary Theory, she refers to the poststructuralist theories that signifies gender as attached to sexually dimorphic bodies, which signify the division of social practices and relations into binary oppositions of male/female and masculine/feminine (Klages 2006, pg. 91 92). I therefore believe developing nations are better off without large mining companies operating within them. Mining majors can use force to get there way and this often includes political involvement and corruption. Mining companies often overlook the artisanal miners, that use the mine as their lone source of income, and move them out from the mines. The impact on locals is not usually not taken into account when a new mine is set up. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing nations are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility for government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because the country is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and fair treatment of local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the Canadian mining company in Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies seek new avenues of revenue they are increasingly turning to the developing world. In developing countries mining is used by locals as a source of income when farms fail, which is becoming increasingly common with global warming. The increasing number of artisanal miners causes ... Conventional and Irregular Warfare Giulio Douhet, in his seminal treatise on air power titled The Command of the Air, argued, A man who wants to make a good instrument must first have a precise understanding of what the instrument is to be used for; and he who intends to build a good instrument of war must first ask himself what the next warwill be like. The United States (US) military establishment has been asking itself this exact question for hundreds of years, in an attempt to be better postured for the future. From the Civil War, through the American Indian Wars, and up until World War II (WWII) the American military s way of war consisted of fighting traditional, or conventional, wars focused on total annihilation of an enemy. Since that time, there has been a gradual shift from the traditional framework towards one that can properly address non traditional, or irregular wars. While the US maintains a capability to conduct conventional warfare, the preponderance of operations where the US military has been engaged since WWII have been irregular wars. Therefore, this question articulated by Douhet, as to understanding the character of the next war in order to properly plan, train, and equip, is certainly germane to the current discussion of regular war versus irregular war. In today s fiscally constrained environment, the questions remains, which will dominate the future and therefore, garner further funding and priority. Self Regulation In Middle School Self regulation Eisenberg (2010) defines effortful control as the efficiency of executive attention including the ability to inhibit a dominant response and/or activate a subdominant response, to plan, and to detect errors . Eisenberg argues that effortful control is indirectly related to academic success through motivation. Eisenberg goes on to state that children with high effortful control are more likely to behave in productive, pro social ways and they are more socially competent. This increased motivation is hypothesized to lead to higher academic achievement. Metacognitive perspective enhances self regulation of students thereby enabling them to have behavioral responses that aid in academic performance. For example, when at home: parents engage their children in mathematics activities like ordering numbered ice cubes from the refrigerator, and as such enhancing the self regulatory skills of their children. Bort, in his essay Winesburg, Ohio: The Escape from Isolation, briefly examines the characters in many of the short stories included in Winesburg as they fail to both understand each other and to connect with other members of the town. Working chronologically, Bort specifically mentions: The Book of the Grotesques, Hands, Paper Pills, Godliness, Adventure, and Tandy pointing to their contribution to the major themes of Winesburg, Ohio. He begins his analysis comparing Hands and Paper Pills as he asserts that their relationship is central to Anderson s message. He applies each example to this pair of stories with opposing representations of isolation, and in the end, relates the structure and content of the collection of stories to his conclusion about the true nature of the book being the description of what Anderson calls significant moments. There are varying theories relating to personality, with each theory giving a different viewpoint on how personality affects sporting performance. One of these theories is the Trait Theory (Eysenck) which originally stated that there were only two personality types (introvert and extrovert) but over time realised that this limited the theory and introduced two more personality traits (stable and neurotic). Each one of these personality types has its own unique affect on a sports performance. An introvert for example is seen to be shy and tends to choose a solo sport, and this sport is likely to be one that contains small muscle movements such as darts. This personality trait would affect sporting performance if the performer was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory can lead to both positive and negative affects on a sports performance. For example a sports performer who watches a more experienced player may copy the approach taken by the more experienced player possibly leading to an eventual improvement in his or her own level of skill. This can also be spun on its head though, if a performer is watching (football for example) and witnesses a player successfully dive this might cause the performer to try and replicate this negative action leading to a decline in performance. One final theory relating to personality is the interactionist theory; this theory states that personality has three levels that interact to form an individual s personality and is based on the work of Hollander (1967). This theory describes how a person s typical responses change according to varying environmental situations, therefore meaning behaviour becomes unpredictable. This theory also explains why a performers personality can change depending on the situation they re placed in. When combined with Eysenck s trait theory this becomes easier to explain how personality affects sports performance. An example of this would be that a person in day to day life could be seen as introverted, but when they partake in sport their traits can change and they can become and extrovert based on the situation they are place in e.g. a football ... The advantage that follows from the source regarding this idea is that it recorded information that described the creation of the mortgage bubble in the financial market, and the damage dealt to the financial system when the mortgage market crashed from a finance expert. The disadvantage is that the subprime market might not be the only reason of the misallocation of resources, given the fact that HFM s hedge fund was involved in the subprime market which might have formed a biased opinion on that matter (18 19). The nature of the source does not complicate the idea of the cause of the crisis, although concluding that the subprime market was the main cause could complicate the subject. These generalisations structured ideas about the location of new post war housing laying the way for married women to be exploited in the low pay labour market. However rapid social change following the war resulted in greater number of women being drawn into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These houses were amalgamation of retained social expectations of housework but also more progressive architectural ideas. The period saw great change thanks in part to the influence of the Garden City Movements and Raymond Unwin. Unwin semis featured additional living space on the ground floor, running hot water, internalised kitchen and bathing facilities. The extra living space on the ground floor provided an area for families to engage with everyday life and again a parlour in the front of the house to entertain with. The changed position of the kitchen to inside the house really demonstrates the change of gender perspective during this time, it lessened the separation of house tasks by bringing them closer to the family. The provision of hot running water, electricity and internal washrooms helped ease some of the labour of housework, beginning to liberate the housewife. It was however still expected that she would prepare and serve all foods. Therefor the housewife found herself in a funny situation of being both privileged with modern conveniences but still bound to being unseen doing her task in a small space as if a ... In death s atrocity, Achilles and the Athenians turn towards their self interests in hopes to regain control and dignity. Achilles withdraws from the army in hopes they will recognize his worth, thus restoring honor to him. The Greeks were stricken with unendurable grief yet his proud spirit kept him from letting go of his anger. (Il. 9.4, 259). His inability to understand his mortality and resulting lack of philotД“s pitched countless souls of heroes into Hades dark (Il. 1.3 4). • 42. A Summary Of The Injury In The Glass Castle In Jeannette Walls s memoir, The Glass Castle, Jeannette and her siblings are constantly plagued with various accidents and injuries, more so than typical children would be. Her parents have a carefree and lenient approach to parenting, oftentimes leaving the children to fend for themselves or in perilous situations. In The Glass Castle, Jeannette recounts some of the injuries she and her siblings suffer, the reaction her parents have to those injuries, and the parallelepisodes they refer to. One of the first appalling instances of Jeanette s various accidents occurs when she is cooking hot dogs at the age of three. Walls writes: ...when I stood up and started stirring the hot dogs again, I felt a blaze of heat on my right side and realized my dress was on fire (9). As a result, Jeannette ended up having to be covered in ice and given skin grafts due to the severity of her burns, despite this accidentbeing entirely preventable. While tragic, this occurred for a few reasons, first because she was much too young to be maneuvering a hot stove, and furthermore because she was not being supervised by any parent. Nonetheless, any adult could likely have noticed the fire and put it out more quickly had they been in the room, leading to less acute injuries. When Jeannette s mother did come, it was evident that she cared about the safety and well being of her child: Mom ran into the room (9). Seeing as she came running rather than strolling, it can be inferred that her mother is attentive and worried about her daughter; however, once in the hospital, her father has an averse reaction to her injuries and the fact that she s in the hospital when he says: You shouldn t be in this antiseptic joint (13). Most parents would fret over their child and let the hospital do whatever they saw fit to help their child, but her father Rex doesn t trust the hospital and potentially jeopardizes his daughter s health by not adhering to the hospital s recommendations. A parallel episode to this tragic fire incident is when the family is staying at a hotel and are woken up in the middle of the night by a fire. Comparing The Genesis Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh Throughout the Genesis Flood, Atrahasis Flood and the Epic of Gilgamesh flood, there are many different ways to interpret the different views of The Flood. These different narratives in these stories have their own explanation on how this myth took place and the different beliefs that occurred during this flood. The way you portray each narrative is based on what exactly your beliefs are. When comparing the Genesis Flood narrative to that of the Gilgamesh Flood narrative, there are many similar symbols throughout both narratives. In the Genesis version of the flood, God had chosen to send the flood because the humankind he had created was evil and he saw their wickedness.
