Justice in The Republic by Plato Essay
Justice in The Republic by Plato
In Plato s The Republic, justice is depicted as a major part in a perfect society. Justice is said to breed
a good society, whereas injustice will breed a bad one. Plato defines justice in dialogue as keeping
what is properly one s own and doing one s own job. (Pg. 146) Under the rules set for this perfect
society, people are to practice the one profession at which they perform best. This profession also
corresponds to a certain social class. Under no circumstances can one change this profession. Along
with a set occupation, Plato has also determined that the perfect community would regulate what
children (and the community) are taught, and to what the children will be exposed. In Plato s ... Show

Suppose a person is exposed to certain injustices that others commit. Plato feels that this exposure will
plant a sort of seed inside a person s head. Thus leading him or her to commit an injustice of the same
kind, or simply increasing the chance that a person will commit a similar act.
However, there is a huge hypocrisy (or disadvantage) within this theory. With Plato s definition of
justice, a person should keep what is his or her own. Some would say that person s history is also their
own. People have a right to know their history, and the truths about their community. Plato wants to
take away passages in stories, lines within songs, and make all characters in plays perfect. This, in
itself, is an injustice to a community. The stories, folklores, and fables of a community are meant to
teach. In American society, children learn not to tell lies from the Boy Who Cried Wolf. The character
in the story was not perfect and committed a bad act; however, children learn from his mistake. In
Plato s perfect society, he takes away what the community rightfully owns.
When adopting Plato s suggested way of life, one must be prepared to sacrifice his or her past
(neglecting his definition of justice). This crucial injustice is needed for the good of Plato s suggested
community. Similarly, in the book Ishmael, the author tells a story about post war Germany. In this
story is a scenario where the Nazi s had won and wiped out all other

Abstract
Probabilistic topic modeling provides computational methods for large text data analysis. Today
streaming text mining plays an important role within real time social media mining. Latent Dirichlet
Allocation (LDA) model was developed a decade ago to aid discovery of the hidden thematic structure
in large archives of documents. It is acknowledged by many researchers as the most popular approach
for building topic models. In this study, we discuss topic modeling and more specifically LDA. We
identify speed as one of the major limitations of LDA application in streaming big text data analytics.
The main aim of this study is to enhance inference speed of LDA thereby develop a new inference
method and algorithm. Given the characteristics of this specific research problem, the approach to the
proposed research will follow the experimental model. We will investigate causal relationships using a

It was an average weeknight, my brothers and I goofing around, my mom sewing, and my dad was out
getting groceries. All of a sudden my dog Rascal started spazzing on the ground and breathing really
heavy. It was very confusing at first because he was fine and then he wasn t. We put a blanket under
him and relaxed with him. When my dad came home he said stuff in my private with my mom and
they came back in and said it was time for bed. So we all went to bed hoping he was going to be okay.
The next morning when we got up we expected Rascal to still be up stairs but he wasn t. So we all

Research Paper On Teenagers And Plastic Surgery
American Teenagers and Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery is not a new field of medicine. Traditionally, plastic surgery dealt with fixing
abnormalities of the body, but recently people are enjoying the luxury of plastic surgery simply
because they are not happy with their appearance. People make appointments with plastic surgeons for
procedures such as rhinoplasty, liposuction, tummy tucks, face lifts, and most commonly breast
augmentation. These people look forward to desired results from such procedures without considering
the risks. Many risks accompany plastic surgery, but they are rarely discussed in the media. Death is
even a possible conclusion of the surgery. Why would people subject themselves to such conditions as

Television shows such as Nip Tuck (FX), The Swan (ABC), Extreme Makeover (NBC), Doctor 90210
(E), and I Want a Famous Face (MTV) influence teenagers to alter their appearance. Through
watching these television shows young people are able to view common plastic surgery procedures.
These television shows that teens are viewing, however, lack an accurate depiction of what could go
wrong in any given plastic surgery procedure.
It is no question that peer pressure is a big issue when it comes to teenagers, but appearance can
literally become an emotional issue. Teens simply follow the norm of society and ask their parents if
they can get a nose job or even breast augmentation. It amazes me how many times I have heard
people tell me that they got a boob job for their graduation gift from their parents. Why would parents
permit their children to undergo the unnecessary risk of injury or even death? Not to mention the cost
of plastic surgery is extremely expensive.
Common procedures that teens undergo include: rhinoplasty, otoplasty, liposuction, face lifts, laser
hair removal, botox injections, collagen injections, and of course breast augmentation. Rhinoplasty is
the reshaping of the sculpture of the nose, and this procedure is the most customary among teenagers.
Otoplasty is the reshaping of the sculpture of the ears. These procedures range from $3000 to $4000.
Laser hair removal costs about $600. Collagen and botox injections, which get rid of the

After a theoretical analysis of the pharmaceutical industry, the research includes the development of
an analytical framework, which serves as a basis for the examination of the selected websites. This is
followed by an analysis based on the CSR section of the websites of three world leader
pharmaceutical wholesalers and service providers within the pharmaceutical industry. A qualitative
methodology applied to the written content of the websites allows drawing conclusions on the reasons
that lead these companies to get involved in CSR. It also provides an interpretation of how these firms
organize their CSR communication, and which CSR communication strategies they use for addressing
their stakeholders. Findings: The engagement in CSR of companies developing its activities and
business within the pharmaceutical industry respond to the different challenges this industry faces.
External stakeholders (NGOs, media, consumer advocacy groups and the public opinion) carefully
watch the steps taken by pharmaceuticals. As a consequence, the initiatives and communications must
be designed to satisfy the stakeholders´ needs and expectations. Pharmaceutical wholesalers
implement different CSR communication strategies to reach their objectives. Moreover, organizations
choose from a variety of channels to communicate with specific stakeholder groups (e.g. surveys,

Land Use And Land Cover Changes
CHAPTER ONE
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background of the study
Land use and land cover changes (LULCC) induced by human and natural processes a major role in
global as well as regional scale patterns of the climate and biogeochemistry of the earth system
(Ramachandra et al., 2012).Now a day s Global warming is highly increasing as a result of massive
land use and land cover (LULC) changes. The change in land use land cover leads to environmental
change, rainy season fluctuation, increase sea surface temperature (SST) and land surface temperature
(LST). This massive land use and land cover change is due increase the need of land for settlement
and agricultural. Land is scarce (limited) natural resource which cannot be change when the number of
population increases. Land use should be matched with land capacity and at the same time it should
respect the environment, and global climate system (FAO/UNEP, 1999).Land use is converting over
time and the most important driving force of land use changes the human need. Human population is
increasing and it causes transformation of natural ecosystems into human landscapes. Human
settlements, the need for farmland and especially, large urban and industrial areas significantly modify
their environment. Changing from permeable and moist land uses to impermeable and dry one with
paving and building material can sharply affect energy budget and land surface temperature (Guo et
al., 2012), as well as

Comparing The Two Sport Societies
Comparison Of the Two Sport Societies Comparing these two sports societies may have seemed to be
a difficult task before reading the descriptions of each. After reading and researching, it is very clear to
me that there are specific norms each share, despite the fact that they are for different sports. In each
nation, there are similarities in the dedication that each society has towards their given sport. Even
though people may not have been dying in arguments over the sport in the American society, there is
still a sense of the same dedication and fanaticism. Another thing about the societies that is
comparable is the fan base that each society presents towards their given sport. Both groups are very
large, intensely loyal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see from author Williams, more and more Americans are adopting England s societal
sports norms. Things happening between the NFL and England s sports society have really taken off to
another level, and make Williams story look like baby steps. This gradual progress aside, at the end of
the day American football will never be as popular (accepted) in England as soccer, just like soccer
will never be as popular as football here in the states. That is the only conclusion that can be reached
to anyone consider the facts fairly. Ultimately, I believe that it will be these cultural differences that
will be the most important obstacle/barrier to the NFL s efforts to expand globally. The NFL s Effort
to Export American Football to International Markets Throughout the history of the NFL, there have
been several attempts at globalizing the league. In the early 1990s, the NFL attempted to bring

Cultural And Linguistic Boundaries And Influence
Survey design can raise issues that can traverse the cultural and linguistic boundaries and influence the
survey questions selection and procedure. These issues can become more pressing and critical
especially when surveys are conducted in support of vital entities such as government policies,
program evaluations, human rights investigations and government policies. Survey accommodation to
certain cultures and languages is an issue of importance and significance. There are logical reasons for
these issues as survey participants can interpret things and respond differently according to the
question order effects, cultural and language background. Also, the participants` understanding of the
survey construction, intention, data usage and assurance of their information, can influence the
designer`s approach of questions construction and organization (Blair Piccinino, 2005). The previous
literature reviews shed the light on several aspects such as the survey design implications. The
importance of the survey context becomes apparent when the researchers consider the situations where
cultural and linguistic factors are involved. These factors can influence the design due to several
reasons, Some researchers design the surveys from scratch for the purpose of using it in cultures and
language settings, which are not their own. Language consideration is characteristic features of
cognitive socialized skills that influence survey participants. This can result in social

The Danger and Negativity of Misconceptions
Misconceptions are false ideas or beliefs that often root from pre mature assumptions, or inherited
point of views. These misconceptions exist, and will be eternally present. Misconceptions can be
formed about topics such as race, gender, politics, and culture. The results of minor misconceptions
could be harmless. However, misconceptions can be dangerous when they are major or widespread.
After performing a subject analysis on A Lesson Before Dying, Persepolis, and Exploring the

Drug Testing And The Workplace
In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace. The
implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a
dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to
assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and
insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little
research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by
adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the
tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods
(Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to
firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents.
As a response to these costs, employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to
decrease employee drug use. Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies,
employers have turned to drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of
American workers report that their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate
that 90 percent of Fortune 200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). The factor

1. Executive Summary
This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the Just In Time system, the advantages and
disadvantages of the system and how it would benefit AG Z. The Just In Time (JIT) system is a
process where goods are ordered as required, as opposed to the currently used batch processing system
where goods are made in bulk and stored in warehouses until sold. The Just In Time system was
initially developed to not only cut down the amount of waste produced by other systems, which was
seen as incurring unnecessary costs rather than adding value to the company, but to also meet
customer demands with minimum delays. It has been found that when implemented correctly the JIT

In its simplest terms, the Kanban system is used to alert the production team exactly what needs to be
produced, the quantity required and the designated time frame (Horngren, George Srikant 1997).
5. Expected Results
The Batch Processing System currently used at AG Z is a system where products are produced in bulk
quantities or batches whether required by the customer or not. These goods are then stored in
warehouses until required. This process produces large amounts of waste in both inventory and
warehousing as the goods are not sold immediately, and could be required to be held for any length of
time.
The Just in Time system however is a process that produces necessary products as required. This
system is highly beneficial as it reduces the amount of inventory waste, as the goods are made to
order. It also reduces warehousing costs as the goods are made and shipped directly to the customer
rather than being held for extended periods at the warehouse.
As a result of these benefits, the JIT system has been particularly effective for companies with a high
customer demand on newly developed technologies such as computers. If the product is produced
when required and as specified by the customer, this not only allows the customer to order exactly
what they want with modern technology, but it also benefits the manufacturer who is guaranteed a
return on the goods straight

By definition, tangible representations pertain to objects and photographs or pictures that can be
considered as highly iconic, or strongly resembling what they stand for, called the referent (Bruce et
al., 2016, p. 425). Moreover, tangible representations can be employed expressively or receptively.
Bruce et al. (2016) reviewed studies on literacy for the deaf blind from 1990 to 2015. Findings showed
the role of tangible representations and technologies in improving communicative expressiveness.
Furthermore, different kinds of literacy lessons that are normally given to prelinguistic learners who
are deafblind can improve self expression. Some examples are: 1) using daily schedules to form
anticipatory skills; 2) personalized story boxes to boost access and engagement with content; 3)
experience books that enable the development of distancing (i.e. separation in time and space between
the object of representation and the referent), and 4) chances for choice making to perform preference
expression (Bruce Conlon, 2005). For effective lessons, learners must be in a setting that promotes
literacy growth. As McKenzie (2009) pointed out, an environment that is rich in plentiful literacy
resources will benefit all kinds of learners, with or without disabilities. Books and other resources
should be in classrooms in different forms if possible, including Braille, tactile adaptations, large print,

Analysis Of Concrete Angel By Martina Mcbride
Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the messages
behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners about
unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina McBride
uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina McBride
recorded a song titled Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song addresses the
general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of tragedies such as child
abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals, characterization, imagery, and
foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young girl s abuse in order to call the
bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the song, the story creates emotional
appeal with the use of bystanders. The bystander mentioned in verse two is, The teacher wonders, but
she doesn t ask/ It s hard to see the pain behind the mask (lines 5 6). The teacher s reaction is a
common experience for many adults because most adults assume the child is not abused if he or she
appears okay. Another bystander mentioned is, Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ The
neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16). Since the bystander ignores her plea for help, the
audience develops sympathy for her because the girl is helpless. Sympathy is the main objective of
these lyrics, and if the audience has compassion for the young girl, they might take action instead of
being bystanders. Through emotional appeals, the underlying message of these lyrics attempts to
persuade the listeners not to be complacent as bystanders. The artist uses music to evoke people s
emotion because most people listen and relate to music. The article Martina McBride Finds Additional
Voices to Express Herself Ahead of Show in North Myrtle Beach mentions, Raising awareness, she
[Martina McBride] said, makes you feel something as an individual to make a difference, and we all
appreciate that (Palisin). When bystanders take action, they can prevent an abusive situation and raise
more awareness. Concrete Angel characterizes the

Analysis Of The Story Eveline By James Joyce
Eveline The story begins with a silver lining in a memory that deepens into a pit of depression The
narrator helps to describe her memories as Eveline, staring blankly out a window, wallows in her
conflicting feelings of adoration and isolation. Today in many places, what takes place in Dublin
during 1914 as common place family dynamics, can be recognized as a cyclical pattern of abuse
between a controlling and manipulative father, his demure and defenseless wife, and their helpless and
hopeful children. In the story Eveline written by James Joyce the main character is suffering from
symptoms of vicarious trauma and abuse, and although she recognizes, and fantasizes about the option
and possibility of a better life, ultimately she finds herself a victim of circumstance, frozen in time,
unable to make a decision, she is forced to watch her opportunity fade from her grasp. Eveline exhibits
the qualities of a young woman who has spent her life exposed to traumatic, systematic abuse. As she
looks out over the field of her childhood, reaching into the past to pull forward the memories of
friends and happiness, a foul taste creeps in to her mind of Her father [who] used often to hunt them in
out of the field with his blackthorn stick; (Joyce) and the author gives the first indicator that Eveline s
life has been little more than tragic. An abusive parent is bad enough, but the real despair she must feel
is driven home when Eveline s thoughts reveal the unthinkable: her

Culture Is Defined As The Internet And Mass Media
Culture is defined as the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time
(Merriam Webster, 2015). Different continents, from Far East Asia to the West Most point of the
Antarctica, holds their own unique traditions and cultures. Modern form of communication, such as
the internet and mass media, had exposed us to various different cultures, thousands miles away from
us, enabling us to see with our own eyes their practices and traditions. Despite that, does the images
and recordings we see with our eyes through the media are enough to convey all the values in the
culture itself? Our view on the matter may be different that from how others, especially the locals,
sees the matter itself due to the fact that the visual we see does not hold enough of the emotions and
values in the culture itself. In order to send deeper messages that cannot be merely perceived only
with visuals, poetry plays a considerable amount of role in the representation of a culture. Why does
poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to display a culture due to the
fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture usually had either encountered the culture
themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life. This statement is similar to what
Ava McCall said in her articles Using Poetry in Social Studies Classes to Teach about Cultural
Diversity and Social Justice , that poets often write poems according to

Hmong Refugees After The Secret War With The Pathet Laos
My family immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s, as Hmong refugees after the secret war
with the Pathet Laos. My family originally settled in San Diego, California for several years before
they decided to move to Fresno, California. When my parents came to Fresno they were receiving
welfare and attending adult school. My father noticed that their friends and relatives were earning
more money working in the fields than going to school. My parents dropped out of adult school and
started farming to support themselves and my five siblings. My parents felt they couldn t stop farming
because this was now their only way of earning an income to support the family. Growing up, my
parents would emphasize the importance of school and getting a bachelor degree. My family plays an
important role in my life. I have a strong relationship with my parents, three sisters, two older brothers
and my husband. My younger brother left the home when he was 12 years old and the family has no
contact with him. My family strength is our support system and helping each other out. The other
systems education, work, social interaction and health are also important in my life. In my culture, the
youngest son is supposed to take care of my parents. However, my younger brother joins a gang and
was getting involved in criminal activities in middle school. These activities would never or would
ever be permitted back in Laos. But due the environment of this American culture, my parent had no

High Cost Of College Tuition Essay
High costs of college tuition has been a rising concern for many future and former college students.
There are college graduates who are concerned after graduation if they made the right choice paying
for a college degree. There are also future students who are not as tempted to attend college because of
how expensive it is. While there are certain majors that pay well, many of the majors in college do not
pay remotely enough considering what it costs to obtain the degree it takes to do the job. This debt is
harder to pay off for this very reason which creates difficulty for graduates to move on in life. To
make this situation better for future college graduates, tuition needs to be adjusted based on a scale
where what the students are putting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then will be able to work towards paying off the debt that is hurting the student s way of living.
In an article from Ohio State University, research was done to show that 64 percent of college students
used loans to help pay for college, which is similar to what other studies have found . The main causes
for this would be that students need to be able to have the jobs that they majored in help pay towards
their debt. In the article The Unspoken Cause of the Student Loan Crisis Walia explains that if
students are not majoring in the jobs that allow students to begin working immediately and start to pay
off the loan, it is going to be hard for students to get out of the debt and work towards buying a home,
car, and paying for other living things that students need. If the students major does not provide a good
way of making money, it will be harder to repay the loan. In the article Walia states that Engineers are
very likely to be hired right out of college, to command premium salaries and to see their incomes
increase steadily through their careers. Someone majoring in fine arts is not nearly as good a credit
risk.

Anti-Semitism In Canada
Has Canada always been the positive and peaceful country everyone sees today?
Canada is seen as this peaceful country with an extremely polite population. Where no discrimination
or conflict occurs. This usually the point of view of people out of canada who have heard stories about
his country. The truth is before Canada has became this peaceful, a lot of horrible events and
discrimination occurred. Such the discrimination against First Nations, the Jews, the germans and the
Japanese.
The First Nations were one of canada s first victims. They were discriminated against, their land was
taken away, their culture was destroyed and their children were taken to residential schools. They were
called savages and were discriminated giants The europeans in Canada at that time created residential

What Accounting Considerations Are There For Companies...
E) What notable accounting considerations are there for companies in this industry? Most companies
in the telecommunication industry rely heavily on assumptions and estimations when dealing with
their number one assets: telecommunication licenses and Goodwill. A summary of the critical
accounting estimates used in preparing Verizon financial statements is as follows: Wireless licenses
and Goodwill are a significant component of the company s consolidated assets. Both wireless
licenses and Goodwill are treated as indefinite lived intangible assets and, therefore are not amortized,
but rather are tested for impairment annually in the fourth fiscal quarter, unless there are events
requiring an earlier assessment or changes in circumstances during an interim period that indicate
these assets may not be recoverable. Verizon believes its estimates and assumptions are reasonable and
represent appropriate marketplace considerations as of the valuation date. Although the company uses
consistent methodologies in developing the assumptions and estimates underlying the fair value
calculations used in its impairment tests, these estimates are uncertain by nature and can vary from
actual results. It is possible that in the future there may be changes in the assumptions, including
estimated cash flow projections, margins, and growth rates and discount rates which could result in
different fair value estimates and an impairment charge. F) Is the company in a highly regulated
industry?

Drug Addiction: Importance of a Support System
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, between 40 to 60 percent of patients relapse.
However, substance abuse addiction is a lifelong condition that can be successfully managed through
treatment providers. One of the keys to success with addiction recovery is a social support system.

There are different reasons why patients drop out of treatment. For example, patients may be
unprepared to change, poorly motivated or inadequately committed to recovery. Certain patients also
struggle with limited resources, such as finances, housing or transportation. However, according to a
recent National Institute of Health report, the reasons for dropping out of treatment are not typically
related to the program, but are in fact personal. Surveyed clients cited lack of social support and
relationship with treatment staff as the primary reasons for dropping out of treatment. Specifically,

result, drug addicts need constant social support in order to maintain sobriety. A safe and stable home
environment is critical for drug addicts to properly recover. One of the biggest problems that people in
outpatient treatment experience is being exposed to drugs and temptations at home. In addition to this,
unsupportive individuals, who are opposed to treatment, may pressure or persuade addicts to abandon
treatment. The more positive support a patient receives, the more likely they are to successfully

Factory Act
The Factories Act 1961 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. At the time of its passage,
the Act consolidated much legislation on workplace health, safety and welfare in Great Britain.
Though as of 2008 some of it remains in force, it has largely been superseded by the Health and
Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and regulations made under it. However, the Act continues to have a
legal importance as cases of chronic workplace exposure to hazards such as industrial noise, as in the

beyond the current legislation. Breach of the residual provisions is still a crime punishable on

1. Introduction
Content Based Information Retrieval (CBIR) is the field that constitutes representation of images,
organizing and searching of images based on their content rather than annotations of image. CBIR,
also known as query by image content and content based visual information retrieval (CBVIR) is the
application of computer vision techniques to the image retrieval problem, that is, the matter of
checking out digital pictures in massive databases.
Content based implies that the search analyzes the contents of the image based not on keywords,

design, crime prevention, Defense, Face detection etc. Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia

CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high dimensionality. With
the increase in the dimensionality CBIR becomes time consuming system and highly computation
bound. Also with variety of applications of CBIR, there is need to preserve the privacy of user interest.
A. Need of the Privacy Preservation in CBIR
Privacy can be outlined as The quality of being secluded from the presence or view of others . In
CBIR user provides some Multimedia object (e.g. an image of trademark to check whether the same
trademark is already exist or not) as query and system provides required results. During this process
system must realize the similarity between user query and objects in the database. At this time system
gets the user query and query reveals the content and interest of the user and here is the privacy leak in

Managed Health Care Issues Essay
When one examines managed health care and the hospitals that provide the care, a degree of variation
is found in the treatment and care of their patients. This variation can be between hospitals or even
between physicians within a health care network. For managed care companies the variation may be
beneficial. This may provide them with opportunities to save money when it comes to paying for their
policy holder s care, however this large variation may also be detrimental to the insurance company.
This would fall into the category of management of utilization, if hospitals and managed care
organizations can control treatment utilization, they can control premium costs for both themselves
and their customers (Rodwin 1996). If health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second category is preference (Kongstvedt, 2007). When the term preference is used, what it
means in this sense is that there is more than one way to cure the patient. This means that the patient
has a choice to make between the specific treatments. The patient s preference to certain treatments
defines how utilization management works. Patients in the same region may prefer a single treatment
to another or patients of a specific age demographic may opt out of surgery when a younger crowd
may see it as the only option (Kongstvedt, 2007). The third and final category of unwarranted care is
supply. The term does not refer to supplies as in the usage of equipment or tools needed to perform a
job. The word supply is referring to the treatment that is most available is the most often used in
regards to a patient s care. For instance, in a state that the majority of the population is elderly
patients, who use Medicare, will have higher per capita spending for Medicare patient s than the states
that do not have a high population of elderly residence using Medicare services (Rodwin 1996). With
these categories in place, managed health care organizations can group health care into these
categories and establish parameters for reducing cost and create cost effective utilization of health care
resource to all of their customers. Utilization management was set in place to contain costs, but one

Essay on Benefits of Horse Slaughter Industry
The horse is a highly respected animal in United States culture. It has been worshipped and paid
tribute to through art, books (Misty of Chincoteague, Black Stallion), movies (Black Beauty, Spirit),
and television shows (Mr. Ed). The horse industry is huge in the United States, encompassing
everything from rodeos and racing to horses owned for purely pleasure. There have been statues
erected of famous racehorses, as well as museums devoted entirely to equines. Horse culture is a huge
part of American culture. The slaughter of horses for human consumption does not seem to fit into that
culture. However, despite initial reservations, many Americans may agree that the slaughter of horses
is better than alternatives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Animal rights activists, as well as locals in the communities are trying to prevent both factories from
operating (Scripps Howard News Service, 3/8/01).
Recently, the Texas Humane Legislation Network has been leading the attack on the multimillion
dollar companies, citing a law from 1949 that prohibits possession, sale or shipment of horse meat
[intended] for human consumption (St. Petersburg Times, 9/4/02). Both companies have filed lawsuits
in retaliation. They state that the slaughter of horses eases financial strain, feeds other nations, and is
accomplished in a humane manner.
There are millions of horses in the United States; many of the horses are virtually worthless due to
poor training/treatment, bad attitudes, poor confirmation, lameness, sickness, and also simply being
old. Slaughter companies provide an affordable way for horse owners to dispose of their unwanted
animals. What do you do with the animal when it is diseased, or old, or lame? said Geert DeWulf,
general manager of Dallas Crown... `We provide an outlet (Scripps Howard News Service, 3/8/01).
The benefits are not only felt by horse owners in short supply of money; recently in Europe, the
supply of meat from traditional sources, such as cattle, sheep and pigs has dwindled due to epidemics
in the herds, such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy or mad cow disease, as well as hoof and
mouth disease.

  • 2. Justice in The Republic by Plato Essay Justice in The Republic by Plato In Plato s The Republic, justice is depicted as a major part in a perfect society. Justice is said to breed a good society, whereas injustice will breed a bad one. Plato defines justice in dialogue as keeping what is properly one s own and doing one s own job. (Pg. 146) Under the rules set for this perfect society, people are to practice the one profession at which they perform best. This profession also corresponds to a certain social class. Under no circumstances can one change this profession. Along with a set occupation, Plato has also determined that the perfect community would regulate what children (and the community) are taught, and to what the children will be exposed. In Plato s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suppose a person is exposed to certain injustices that others commit. Plato feels that this exposure will plant a sort of seed inside a person s head. Thus leading him or her to commit an injustice of the same kind, or simply increasing the chance that a person will commit a similar act. However, there is a huge hypocrisy (or disadvantage) within this theory. With Plato s definition of justice, a person should keep what is his or her own. Some would say that person s history is also their own. People have a right to know their history, and the truths about their community. Plato wants to take away passages in stories, lines within songs, and make all characters in plays perfect. This, in itself, is an injustice to a community. The stories, folklores, and fables of a community are meant to teach. In American society, children learn not to tell lies from the Boy Who Cried Wolf. The character in the story was not perfect and committed a bad act; however, children learn from his mistake. In Plato s perfect society, he takes away what the community rightfully owns. When adopting Plato s suggested way of life, one must be prepared to sacrifice his or her past (neglecting his definition of justice). This crucial injustice is needed for the good of Plato s suggested community. Similarly, in the book Ishmael, the author tells a story about post war Germany. In this story is a scenario where the Nazi s had won and wiped out all other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today streaming text mining plays an important role within real time social media mining. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model was developed a decade ago to aid discovery of the hidden thematic structure in large archives of documents. It is acknowledged by many researchers as the most popular approach for building topic models. In this study, we discuss topic modeling and more specifically LDA. We identify speed as one of the major limitations of LDA application in streaming big text data analytics. The main aim of this study is to enhance inference speed of LDA thereby develop a new inference method and algorithm. Given the characteristics of this specific research problem, the approach to the proposed research will follow the experimental model. We will investigate causal relationships using a test ... • 7. Research Paper On Teenagers And Plastic Surgery American Teenagers and Plastic Surgery Plastic surgery is not a new field of medicine. Traditionally, plastic surgery dealt with fixing abnormalities of the body, but recently people are enjoying the luxury of plastic surgery simply because they are not happy with their appearance. People make appointments with plastic surgeons for procedures such as rhinoplasty, liposuction, tummy tucks, face lifts, and most commonly breast augmentation. These people look forward to desired results from such procedures without considering the risks. Many risks accompany plastic surgery, but they are rarely discussed in the media. Death is even a possible conclusion of the surgery. Why would people subject themselves to such conditions as having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Television shows such as Nip Tuck (FX), The Swan (ABC), Extreme Makeover (NBC), Doctor 90210 (E), and I Want a Famous Face (MTV) influence teenagers to alter their appearance. Through watching these television shows young people are able to view common plastic surgery procedures. These television shows that teens are viewing, however, lack an accurate depiction of what could go wrong in any given plastic surgery procedure. It is no question that peer pressure is a big issue when it comes to teenagers, but appearance can literally become an emotional issue. Teens simply follow the norm of society and ask their parents if they can get a nose job or even breast augmentation. It amazes me how many times I have heard people tell me that they got a boob job for their graduation gift from their parents. Why would parents permit their children to undergo the unnecessary risk of injury or even death? Not to mention the cost of plastic surgery is extremely expensive. Common procedures that teens undergo include: rhinoplasty, otoplasty, liposuction, face lifts, laser hair removal, botox injections, collagen injections, and of course breast augmentation. Rhinoplasty is the reshaping of the sculpture of the nose, and this procedure is the most customary among teenagers. Otoplasty is the reshaping of the sculpture of the ears. These procedures range from $3000 to $4000. Laser hair removal costs about $600. Collagen and botox injections, which get rid of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After a theoretical analysis of the pharmaceutical industry, the research includes the development of an analytical framework, which serves as a basis for the examination of the selected websites. This is followed by an analysis based on the CSR section of the websites of three world leader pharmaceutical wholesalers and service providers within the pharmaceutical industry. A qualitative methodology applied to the written content of the websites allows drawing conclusions on the reasons that lead these companies to get involved in CSR. It also provides an interpretation of how these firms organize their CSR communication, and which CSR communication strategies they use for addressing their stakeholders. Background of the study Land use and land cover changes (LULCC) induced by human and natural processes a major role in global as well as regional scale patterns of the climate and biogeochemistry of the earth system (Ramachandra et al., 2012).Now a day s Global warming is highly increasing as a result of massive land use and land cover (LULC) changes. The change in land use land cover leads to environmental change, rainy season fluctuation, increase sea surface temperature (SST) and land surface temperature (LST). This massive land use and land cover change is due increase the need of land for settlement and agricultural. Land is scarce (limited) natural resource which cannot be change when the number of population increases. Land use should be matched with land capacity and at the same time it should respect the environment, and global climate system (FAO/UNEP, 1999).Land use is converting over time and the most important driving force of land use changes the human need. Human population is increasing and it causes transformation of natural ecosystems into human landscapes. Human settlements, the need for farmland and especially, large urban and industrial areas significantly modify their environment. Changing from permeable and moist land uses to impermeable and dry one with paving and building material can sharply affect energy budget and land surface temperature (Guo et al., 2012), as well as ... After reading and researching, it is very clear to me that there are specific norms each share, despite the fact that they are for different sports. In each nation, there are similarities in the dedication that each society has towards their given sport. Even though people may not have been dying in arguments over the sport in the American society, there is still a sense of the same dedication and fanaticism. Another thing about the societies that is comparable is the fan base that each society presents towards their given sport. Both groups are very large, intensely loyal and ... Cultural And Linguistic Boundaries And Influence Survey design can raise issues that can traverse the cultural and linguistic boundaries and influence the survey questions selection and procedure. These issues can become more pressing and critical especially when surveys are conducted in support of vital entities such as government policies, program evaluations, human rights investigations and government policies. Survey accommodation to certain cultures and languages is an issue of importance and significance. There are logical reasons for these issues as survey participants can interpret things and respond differently according to the question order effects, cultural and language background. Also, the participants` understanding of the survey construction, intention, data usage and assurance of their information, can influence the designer`s approach of questions construction and organization (Blair Piccinino, 2005). The previous literature reviews shed the light on several aspects such as the survey design implications. The importance of the survey context becomes apparent when the researchers consider the situations where cultural and linguistic factors are involved. These factors can influence the design due to several reasons, Some researchers design the surveys from scratch for the purpose of using it in cultures and language settings, which are not their own. Language consideration is characteristic features of cognitive socialized skills that influence survey participants. This can result in social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Drug Testing And The Workplace In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace. The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents. As a response to these costs, employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to decrease employee drug use. Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies, employers have turned to drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of American workers report that their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate that 90 percent of Fortune 200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). To me, being a team player is important because it creates synergy where the sum is ultimately greater than the parts, and this helps to support a more empowered way of working, removing constraints which may prevent someone doing their job properly. The Just In Time (JIT) system is a process where goods are ordered as required, as opposed to the currently used batch processing system where goods are made in bulk and stored in warehouses until sold. The Just In Time system was initially developed to not only cut down the amount of waste produced by other systems, which was seen as incurring unnecessary costs rather than adding value to the company, but to also meet customer demands with minimum delays. In its simplest terms, the Kanban system is used to alert the production team exactly what needs to be produced, the quantity required and the designated time frame (Horngren, George Srikant 1997). 5. Expected Results The Batch Processing System currently used at AG Z is a system where products are produced in bulk quantities or batches whether required by the customer or not. These goods are then stored in warehouses until required. This process produces large amounts of waste in both inventory and warehousing as the goods are not sold immediately, and could be required to be held for any length of time. The Just in Time system however is a process that produces necessary products as required. This system is highly beneficial as it reduces the amount of inventory waste, as the goods are made to order. It also reduces warehousing costs as the goods are made and shipped directly to the customer rather than being held for extended periods at the warehouse. As a result of these benefits, the JIT system has been particularly effective for companies with a high customer demand on newly developed technologies such as computers. If the product is produced when required and as specified by the customer, this not only allows the customer to order exactly what they want with modern technology, but it also benefits the manufacturer who is guaranteed a return on the goods straight ... Moreover, tangible representations can be employed expressively or receptively. Bruce et al. (2016) reviewed studies on literacy for the deaf blind from 1990 to 2015. Findings showed the role of tangible representations and technologies in improving communicative expressiveness. Furthermore, different kinds of literacy lessons that are normally given to prelinguistic learners who are deafblind can improve self expression. Some examples are: 1) using daily schedules to form anticipatory skills; 2) personalized story boxes to boost access and engagement with content; 3) experience books that enable the development of distancing (i.e. separation in time and space between the object of representation and the referent), and 4) chances for choice making to perform preference expression (Bruce Conlon, 2005). • 22. Analysis Of Concrete Angel By Martina Mcbride Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners about unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina McBride uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina McBride recorded a song titled Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song addresses the general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of tragedies such as child abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals, characterization, imagery, and foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young girl s abuse in order to call the bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the song, the story creates emotional appeal with the use of bystanders. The bystander mentioned in verse two is, The teacher wonders, but she doesn t ask/ It s hard to see the pain behind the mask (lines 5 6). The teacher s reaction is a common experience for many adults because most adults assume the child is not abused if he or she appears okay. Another bystander mentioned is, Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ The neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16). Since the bystander ignores her plea for help, the audience develops sympathy for her because the girl is helpless. Sympathy is the main objective of these lyrics, and if the audience has compassion for the young girl, they might take action instead of being bystanders. Through emotional appeals, the underlying message of these lyrics attempts to persuade the listeners not to be complacent as bystanders. The artist uses music to evoke people s emotion because most people listen and relate to music. The article Martina McBride Finds Additional Voices to Express Herself Ahead of Show in North Myrtle Beach mentions, Raising awareness, she [Martina McBride] said, makes you feel something as an individual to make a difference, and we all appreciate that (Palisin). • 23. Analysis Of The Story Eveline By James Joyce Eveline The story begins with a silver lining in a memory that deepens into a pit of depression The narrator helps to describe her memories as Eveline, staring blankly out a window, wallows in her conflicting feelings of adoration and isolation. Today in many places, what takes place in Dublin during 1914 as common place family dynamics, can be recognized as a cyclical pattern of abuse between a controlling and manipulative father, his demure and defenseless wife, and their helpless and hopeful children. In the story Eveline written by James Joyce the main character is suffering from symptoms of vicarious trauma and abuse, and although she recognizes, and fantasizes about the option and possibility of a better life, ultimately she finds herself a victim of circumstance, frozen in time, unable to make a decision, she is forced to watch her opportunity fade from her grasp. Eveline exhibits the qualities of a young woman who has spent her life exposed to traumatic, systematic abuse. As she looks out over the field of her childhood, reaching into the past to pull forward the memories of friends and happiness, a foul taste creeps in to her mind of Her father [who] used often to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick; (Joyce) and the author gives the first indicator that Eveline s life has been little more than tragic. Modern form of communication, such as the internet and mass media, had exposed us to various different cultures, thousands miles away from us, enabling us to see with our own eyes their practices and traditions. Despite that, does the images and recordings we see with our eyes through the media are enough to convey all the values in the culture itself? Our view on the matter may be different that from how others, especially the locals, sees the matter itself due to the fact that the visual we see does not hold enough of the emotions and values in the culture itself. In order to send deeper messages that cannot be merely perceived only with visuals, poetry plays a considerable amount of role in the representation of a culture. Why does poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to display a culture due to the fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture usually had either encountered the culture themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life. • 28. What Accounting Considerations Are There For Companies... E) What notable accounting considerations are there for companies in this industry? Most companies in the telecommunication industry rely heavily on assumptions and estimations when dealing with their number one assets: telecommunication licenses and Goodwill. A summary of the critical accounting estimates used in preparing Verizon financial statements is as follows: Wireless licenses and Goodwill are a significant component of the company s consolidated assets. Both wireless licenses and Goodwill are treated as indefinite lived intangible assets and, therefore are not amortized, but rather are tested for impairment annually in the fourth fiscal quarter, unless there are events requiring an earlier assessment or changes in circumstances during an interim period that indicate these assets may not be recoverable. Verizon believes its estimates and assumptions are reasonable and represent appropriate marketplace considerations as of the valuation date. Although the company uses consistent methodologies in developing the assumptions and estimates underlying the fair value calculations used in its impairment tests, these estimates are uncertain by nature and can vary from actual results.
