United States Army Special Forces Essay
The United States Army Special Forces The first military establishment was formed before the United
States was officially declared a country for the purpose of meeting the needs of the colonists during
the American Revolution. The Army s mission is to fight and win the Nation s wars by providing
prompt, sustained land dominance across a full range of military operations. Although the history of
the United States Army is deeply rooted in the country s history, the implementation of the United
States Special Forces Operations Unit is fairly young having been established in May 1952 yet
unannounced to the public until 1954. In an effort to uphold the Army s mission, the Special Forces
Operations Unit was initially formed to assist with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gibson provided specific details with regard to training, Army Special Forces soldiers were trained to
organize and develop indigenous troops as guerrillas to harass, raid, and sabotage larger enemy forces
over time to degrade and ultimately destroy their ability to fight. The Army considered guerilla
warfare to be part of unconventional warfare ... (p. 1). While today the Special Forces Operations
Units are seen as heroes and the highest caliber of enlisted men in the Army, they were not initially
seen as an elite group. Perhaps the Special Forces did not receive the recognition they deserved
because their successes in psychological and counterinsurgency warfare strategies were immeasurable
during World War II and the Korean War. President Kennedy s administration would lead the way for
the Army s Green Berets and later the Navy SEALS. However, it wasn t until the Vietnam War that
unconventional warfare, or guerilla warfare as it became known, was utilized in a capacity that would
expand the effectiveness and duties of the Special Forces Units. As the son of an enlisted Army soldier
who served initially as a member of the 5th Specials Forces Unit and the 101st Airborne Division
followed by time of duty with the Green Berets, a Ranger unit, and Delta Force during the Vietnam
conflict, guerilla warfare was a frequent topic of conversation. Being dropped behind enemy

Zimbardo Prison Experiment Stu
Zimbardo Prison Experiments The Zimbardo prison experiment was set up to investigate the problem
of what the psychological effects for normal people result from being a guard or inmate, and in a
broader sense are normal people capable of being evil. The research question being asked was, How
would normal people react to being in a simulated prison environment? In Zimbardo s own words,
Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew
they would be going into a prison like environment and that some of their civil rights would be
sacrificed. Would those good people, (when) put in that bad, evil place (have) their goodness triumph?
Zimbardo set up his experiment to test the validity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization
is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The
experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial
controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to
assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing
that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become
subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail
before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When
they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I
didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me,
even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act
crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty
comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. On the other hand, if I
was a guard I definitely would not have been an asshole like about a third of the guards were, and I
wouldn t be a silent observer or accomplice like

Has Hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games Been Successful in Fulfilling The

London was placed on the shortlist for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics host city back in May
2004. The International Olympics Committee (IOC) eventually announced that London had been
successful in July 2005 following a large campaign backing the bid. The bid for the games was led by

So therefore where the media exposes the benefits of hosting the games such as increased investment
and development, this all has to be funded through public accounts which requires reduced benefits
elsewhere, or cuts in household disposable income levels.
The sporting legacy of the 2012 Olympics was always at the forefront of government attention. The
bid for the games featured the slogan Inspire a Generation with the reason behind the slogan being to
trigger involvement of young people in sports and taking up new activities (Magnay 2012). There are
two programmes introduced to encourage community sports; Places People Play and a Join in
program.
Places People Play is a joint partnership initiative between Sport England and the British Olympic
Association with the aim of making the benefits of London 2012 visible in cities, towns and villages
across the country (SportEngland.org 2012). The goals involve the protection and improvement of
hundreds of playing fields across the country, modernising and extending club facilities and Sports

running of community sports (Sports England 2012).

Snyder s 300 Hyperbole
Film is a source of entertainment for thousands of people, however it can also be seen as modern
poetry. Two examples of poetry in film is Snyder s 300 (2006) and Weir s Gallipoli (1981),
Both films have a theme of War one that glorifies it and the other denounces it. Despite the films being
different in genre and mood, both films have strong poetic devices such as hyperbole, symbolism and
repetition.
During Snyder s 300 many forms of hyperbole were used to portray the Glory of War which is the
main theme for the film. An example of hyperbole, which is noticeable throughout the entire film, is
the enhanced colouring to make the figures and scenes appear like a graphic novel. This is because the
original story line was based on Frank Millar s 300 graphic novel series. The end half of the movie
used exaggerated features more often, from the beast like features on Persia s fighters to Leonidas war
cry nearing the end of the final battle. The directors have used this poetic device to create a stronger
sense of emotion for the film.
Weir s Gallipoli had less hyperbole than Snyder s 300, however still used many of the basic aspects to
make the film a form of poetry. When hyperbole was used in the film is was usually before the main
character Archie started running where he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A symbol constantly used throughout the film was the Spartans no mercy attitude. During the films
introduction Leonidas was being taught how to fight and how glorious it was to die for the protection
of Sparta, when he was being taught this lesson he was shown his father s shield, which was then
passed down to him. In the final battle Leonidas dropped his shield in order to through his spear at
Xerces in order to prove his statement of Even Gods can bleed. Throughout the entire film the no
mercy attitude of the Spartans was displayed as a sign that these warriors would be far more brutal

Research on the Cell Cycle of an Onion Root Tip
Introduction:
Cell cycle is a series of sequenced events in a Eukaryotic (a cell with a nucleus and membrane
bounded organelles) from its origin until its division to produce two daughter cells. There are different
forms of cell division: mitosis: an asexual division that produces daughter nuclei with the exact copies
of the parent nuclei and Meiosis; cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes to produce
specialized cells called gametes (sex cells) that produces half the number of chromosome of the parent
cell. Cell cycle is divided in three major steps: interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis. During interphase
step, the cell produces proteins particular cells need to function properly. Interphase is separated into
three phases: G1 phase where most cell s organelles duplicate leading the cell to grow and expand,
Synthesis phase where the DNA in the chromosome replicate, and G2 phase where the proteins are
synthesized preparing mitosis for cell division. Due to the numerous activities going on, the cell
spends a lot of time in interphase. Next major step of the cell cycle is the mitotic (M) phase, during
which the cell splits into two distinct cells, often called daughter cells . Mitosis is accomplished during
four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. During prophase, the replicated
chromosomes condense, so they can move around freely, nuclear envelopes, the membrane that
surrounds the nucleus scatters, and spindle protein structures called

Individuality, Equality, And Sameness
Individuality, Equality, and Sameness
What is the differentiation between equality and sameness? How does one s identity effect these two
notions? In Bradbury s and Vonnegut s fictitious stories, The Pedestrian , Fahrenheit 451 , and
Harrison Bergeron , these concepts and their relationship is depicted to the reader in the form of
dystopias. These dystopias may not exist, but these science fictional societies certainly could be made
to exist. These stories contain elements that anyone can relate to, and like all science fiction,
accommodate real life factors such as technology, life, and government. Bradbury s and Vonnegut s
stories convey the message that humanity needs to acknowledge its own need for individuality and be

The television program was suddenly interrupted for a news bulletin. It wasn t clear at first as to what
the bulletin was about, since the announcer, like all announcers, had a serious speech impediment...the
announcer tried to say ladies and gentlemen, he finally gave up, handed the bulletin to the ballerina to
read...she had to apologize at once for her voice, which was a very unfair voice for a woman to use.
Her voice was warm, luminous, timeless melody (Kurt Bergeron Page. 3). Mr. Bergeron enclosed this
quote, to show that instead of having people employed that best suit a job, characters often take jobs
that do not suit them. Not only could this cause a person to be miserable with their work, but it limits
the occupations one can have, and makes it extremely hard to exceed in a trade or career. As a result,
there s a society where people are punished for being different, where there is an absurd idea that it is
possible for citizens to have equality and sameness at the same time, and an environment, where no
one is joyful. That is to say, that sameness is not equality, much less happiness.
In Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 readers enter a society where everyone has
similar items, where everyone learns the same facts, and where there is a minuscule amount of crime.
However, no one interacts with each other. In The Pedestrian the majority of people prefer to stay

Homelessness And Media Analysis
In 2015, my sophomore year in high school, I was presented with an opportunity. Two of my friends
and I had the ability to design our own community service project. I particularly was drawn to the
issue of poverty in my hometown. I had always had an idea of what I thought homelessness was,
however, as I talked to the manager of a Council Bluffs homeless shelter, The MICAH House, I
realized I was completely wrong. Homelessness is not always like the stereotypical picture that the
media portrays, but a mere lack of resources, resulting in complete inability for one to reground
themselves. From that point on, I felt permanently attached to the matter. The largest issue that was
revealed to us, among the shelter, was the lack of transportation.

18th Amendment Failure
The 18th amendment made made the manufacture, sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol
illegal. This amendment was a huge failure because it causes people to go behind the laws back and
drink illegally. There was a secret drinking establishment called speakeasies and there were also
people who provided alcohol illegally and they were called bootleggers. The act that enforced
prohibition was the volstead act.
Congress passes the Volstead Act over President Woodrow Wilson s veto. The Volstead Act provided
for the enforcement of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, also known as the Prohibition
Amendment. In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed and ratified, repealing
prohibition. The Twenty first Amendment to the United States Constitution repealed the Eighteenth
Amendment to the United States Constitution, which had mandated nationwide Prohibition on alcohol
on January 16, 1919. The Twenty first Amendment was ratified on December 5, 1933. ... Show more

Congress provided states with a period of seven years in which to ratify the amendment, the approval
took just over a year. The government now found itself with a bigger problem than prohibition of
alcoholic beverages. As the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and police worked to control and
end mob (organized crime) violence, and as the country suffered through the early years of the Great
Depression, lawmakers in Washington reconsidered the amendment. On February 20, 1933, the U.S.
Congress proposed that the Eighteenth Amendment be repealed. Approved by the states in December
of that year, the Twenty First Amendment declared the Eighteenth Amendment null. The manufacture,
transportation, and consumption of alcoholic beverages was again legal in the United States; this
ended the 13 year period of Prohibition. Franklin D Roosevelt, president at the time of repeal, called
Prohibition a noble

Total Forms Control Case Summary
1. Total Forms Control (TFC) fit well into Western s strategy when it was initially implemented. It
allowed Western to offer these value added services to their customers that most of their competitors
did not. Total Forms Control should have increased Western s margins and helped them to increase the
loyalty and number of customers. TFC was not performing up to expectations. It had become an
increasingly time consuming process and profits from TFC had been consistently declining over the
past several years, projected to drop a total of 14% in only two years.
2. The current accounting system charged all customers participating in the TFC program the same
standard rates regardless of the level or frequency of services provided. There ... Show more content

4. Distributing services using activity based costing reveals that Customer A is a highly more
profitable consumer to Western than Customer B, despite identical net sales (see attached). Customer
A uses less storage, delivery services, has fewer requisitions and a smaller inventory balance, making
them a more inexpensive customer to service, in comparison to Customer B.
5. An analysis of the individual customer accounts suggest that TFC s current pricing model is
ineffective. They are undercharging an alarming number of their customers thereby reducing their
overall profitability. Based on this information, managers will hopefully elect to implement the
services based pricing model so that customers are charged based on the services they are actually
consuming. Ideally, changing the current pricing model will resolve the issue of customers reducing
profit by 140% and 60% (Exhibit 8, numbers 3 and 4). If there are still profit draining customers,
management should revisit and assess accordingly, either further increasing fees to those customers so
their contribution is positive, or perhaps dropping these customers to increase overall profitability.
6. I think the largest issues in adopting Service Based Pricing would be the opposition from the
salespeople and the customers. In most cases, fees will increase and it s unlikely that this change will
be welcomed by either party. Western may lose customers if

Spanish Colonization Of North America
Spanish Colonization of North America In 1492 when Christopher Columbus discovered the New
World, Spain had discovered its next easy conquest. With North America added to its territory Spain
had surpassed ancient Rome as the largest empire. Exploiting the land, labor, and minerals Spain
quickly conquered and settled most of South America, the Caribbean, and the Southwest. Spain used
its new wealth to help finance their war in Europe. With promises of riches and many natives to
convert to Christianity the Spanish sent conquistadors who brought with them not only superior
military technology but also diseases like smallpox, scarlet fever, and the bubonic plague decimating
native populations like the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas. These Spanish conquistadors, who were
poverty stricken nobles predominantly from the west and south of Spain, were then awarded
encomiendas, land grants that included the right to force native populations into slavery as long as the
convert them to Christianity (Shmoop Editorial Team, 2008). The Spanish Monarchy governed North
America using viceroyalties and audencias, royal mediation courts. The church also played a part in
governing the New World and large areas like what is known today as Texas, Arizona, New Mexico,
and California was under control of Dominican, Franciscan, and Jesuit missionaries with the goal of
converting the natives to Catholicism. Since North America was being used to fuel the income needs

Animal Rights Essay
Animals and man have shared this planet since humans first appeared on earth. Animals have provided
transportation, food, clothing, shelter, companionship and entertainment throughout the ages.
Therefore, it is our duty to treat animals with respect, care and kindness and not cause them undue
suffering, because they have, in many ways, made it possible for man to survive on earth. However,
because normal adult humans have superior mental abilities in the hierarchical scale in nature, animals
have fewer rights than humans. Consequently, it is our responsibility to support and maintain the
animal kingdom (to the best of our ability); therefore helping to preserve them as fellow members or
our community of life on earth.

Animals should be viewed as experiencing subjects of life with inherent value of their own. We are
guilty of speciesism and have been inhumane and evil to creatures that are powerless. He contends
that any change requires a change in our heads and hearts.
It would seem that Regan wrote this essay because he feels there has been a blatant cruelty and
disregard for animals. He does not mention however, that all species use each other as resources that is
the way of nature. He seems to be denying or ignoring that natural phenomenon. Everything and
everyone is a resource in one way or another. Humans and animals are hosts for many insects,
parasites and microscopic organisms, which are part of nature s food chain.
As founder of the Animal Rights Liberation, utilitarian Peter Singer agrees with Regan s opinion that
we are guilty of speciesism. He defines speciesism as a prejudice or attitude of bias toward the
interests of members of one s own species. He informs the reader that he owes this term to Richard
Ryder.
In his essay All Animals are Equal , Singer laments the fact that the majority of humans take an active
part in, or allow their taxes to pay for the sacrificing species in order to promote their self interests. To
believe that only human life is sacrosanct is wrong, in his view, and another example of speciesism.
He believes we must allow beings, human or animal, which are similar in all relevant aspects, to

Self Awareness Analysis
An emotionally intelligent individual manages personal situations and relationships with balance and
care. Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and author, believes the four domains of emotional intelligence
are self awareness, self management, empathy, and the combination of the above. When these four
domains work congruently it stabilizes an individual in both work and home relationship (Goleman,
2013). A human service worker offers an effective service to the client when socially balanced and

The fourth component is the combination of the three domains working together in unison like a well
oiled machine. If self management is neglected it certainly will not improve the ability to be
empathetic, nor can it help in self awareness, as this second component works to improve on an
individual s firm grasp of applying positive emotions under stress. It is also imperative to put these
three domains together for healthy relationships to occur. These four domains also lend into social
intelligence placing people together as you and I instead of I and it, and these two modes of relating to
others takes the object out of how one views people.
Experiencing Self Awareness Daniel Goleman provides examples of individuals experiencing self
awareness at both work and in one s life (Goleman, 2013). Being conscious of one s inner world,
beliefs, thoughts, and concepts are what comprise self awareness. In one s daily life there are
situations, struggles, and trials which can impact sound judgement and resolution. Self awareness
helps the individual make healthy decisions and knowing when to ask for help to cope with an
overwhelming issue. Also learning to grow through a limiting perspective to compromise with others
and seek alternatives (Levine, 2013). Others may disagree with ones beliefs, decisions, and lifestyle,
yet the individual can recognize feelings about those in disagreement with them and avoid
unnecessary conflict. While in the work

Pertussis or whooping cough, is an acute infectious disease caused by an aerobic gram negative rod,
called Bordetella Pertussis. This is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection characterized by
paroxysmal cough. The outbreak of this disease was first noticed in the 16th century and it took
another 300 years to isolate the organism, that is in 1906. The vaccine was developed in 1940s, since
then, pertussis was one of the most common childhood disease in United States. There were more than

Now that most children are immunized prior to starting school, there is a higher (not the highest)
percentage of pertussis cases seen among adolescents and adults (Medlineplus, 2013). Consequently,
adolescents and adults are a significant source for transmission to unvaccinated young infants (WHO,
2010). Pertussis is most fatal in infants and young children less than one year of age (CDC Pertussis,
2013). Severe disease and death have been reported mainly during the first weeks and months of life.
In older children, adolescents, and adults pertussis often goes unrecognized (WHO, 2010).
Suggested areas for further research are with regards to teenagers and adults and how the vaccine may
be administered so that the efficacy is prolonged. This may include modifying the current vaccine or
making modifications to the vaccine schedule allowing for more boosters to become available for the
vaccine. Another recommendation is to expand current vaccination campaigns beyond expecting
parents and healthcare workers. The campaign should be designed to reach grandparents, aunts,

Consumer Discrimination And Sexual Orientation Based...
Earlier this year, the concepts of consumer discrimination and sexual orientation based discrimination
have come to a forefront in American politics and should be dealt with through federal legislation
(Payne, 2015). Two arguments which can be used to argue on the side of discrimination are the First
Amendment used in tandem with corporate personhood and the First Amendment used on its own. I
argue, however, that corporate personhood is not a legitimate argument nor is the First Amendment
grounds for an individual to discriminate against another. Another defense of discrimination against
consumers is the first section of the Thirteenth Amendment. The elimination and prevention of the
entirety of such discrimination could be carried out through enacting a single two part law. Two
defenses of discrimination include a combination of the First Amendment with each current precedent
regarding corporations and of its own accord. Current precedent is the concept of corporate
personhood wherein a corporation is treated as a person albeit with controversy regarding their
treatment (Ripken, 2010). When this precedent is used in tandem with the provision that the free
exercise of religion shall not be prohibited in the First Amendment, this makes a case that the
government may not prohibit a corporation from exercising a religion (U.S. Const. amend. XIX). The
other possible argument regarding the First Amendment is the individual s right to exercise their
religion. Each of these

In his paper, The Social Responsibilities of Business is to Increase its Profits (Friedman, 1970), Milton

to say A corporation is an artificial person (Friedman, 1970) and since this is not a real person, cannot
have any responsibilities. While a corporation or business has a leader or board of directors, Friedman
states these individuals cannot make decisions on social responsibility without eating into the profits
of the company, the employee s wages, or even the price that the customer has to pay for the item.
Upon my first review of Friedman s article, I thought he was throwing everything about a good
company out the window. After reading it a second time, and realizing it was written in 1970, I believe
he was stating the first responsibility of a company is to make a profit. Why else would you be in

On more than one occasion, President George W. Bush has described the terrorist attacks of
September 11, 2001, as fostering a monumental battle of good versus evil. In this battle, there has
been no doubt in his mind (or in ours) regarding who is on the side of good and who is on the side of
evil. Though some have winced at the President s use of such absolute moral terms to portray the
tragic events of that fateful day, others have applauded his courageous use of such unfashionable
discourse as entirely appropriate, even suggesting that it implies the demise of the cultural scourge of
postmodern moral relativism.
Another important way, not entirely unrelated, of interpreting what transpired on 9/11 is to explain ...

According to the editors of Foreign Affairs, Huntington s article generated more response over a three
year period than any other article they had published since the 1940s. Given the interest in, as well as
the controversy over and misrepresentation of his article, Huntington decided that the prudent thing to
do would be to expand it into a book length treatment in which he would explore more deeply and
document more thoroughly the thesis he propounded in his article. So the outcome was a 1996 book
titled The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of the World Order.4 In this work conceived as an
interpretation of the evolution of global politics after the Cold War, Huntington aspires, as he says, to
present a framework, a paradigm, for viewing global politics that will be meaningful to scholars and
useful to policymakers. 5 Its central theme is virtually identical to that of his article, namely that
culture and cultural identities, which at Huntington is the Albert J. Weatherhead III University

Christianity And Birth Control
Human life is a sacred right that all individuals possess. It is unlawful and mortally sinful to take away
or prevent the life of an infant. Human life is sacred all men must recognize that fact, said Pope John
XXIII in defense of the unborn (John XXIII). To be truly pro life, one must accept that doing so does
not only refer to being opposed to abortion, but also being opposed to birth control and contraception.
The Catholic Church has professed for two thousand years that the conjugal act is a gift from God to
married couples for the sole purpose of procreation. This gift is abused and perverted by humans; who
view conjugal love as a means of pleasure rather than what it truly is. Abortion, contraception and
birth control are three methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The popularity and convenience of birth control has led to a higher popularity of abortions.
Historically, Christianity has always condemned birth control and the contraceptive mentality for
2,000 years until the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in 1930 (Carlson). Many other
Protestant communities jumped on the bandwagon and embraced this modern and destructive practice.
The Roman Catholic Church has stood firm in her tradition and doctrine during these dark times. His
Holiness, Pope Paul VI, condemned birth control and contraception as immoral in the papal encyclical
Humanae Vitae. Consequently, it is a serious error to think that a whole married life of otherwise
normal relations can justify sexual intercourse which is deliberately contraceptive and so intrinsically
wrong (Paul VI). Anyone who claims to be pro life, yet embraces contraceptives, is truly flattering
himself. God struck Onan dead in Genesis for performing coitus interruptus, spilling his seed on the
ground, which is a severe punishment indeed. Imagine the anger of God toward those who interfere
with the means to create life that he gave humanity. Using birth control is telling God that man
controls creation, not Him. It is intrinsically blasphemous and disobedient in nature. Sexual
immorality is condemned by the Bible and birth control certainly falls within this category since it is a
means to misuse intimacy for the purpose of pleasure, rather than procreation. Christian and non
Christian married couples should use sex for procreation instead of using each others bodies just for
pleasure. Pleasures are so readily available in this world, and now God s own generative process is
being corrupted by modern medicine. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are
obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it

Lotus World Music Arts Festival Case Study In early November, the world renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma
came to Bloomington and performed at the IU Auditorium. I have heard his music through many of
his recordings and was not only touched by his music but also admired all his musically experiments
that helped us understand more about different cultural music. However, I never got the chance to
attend his live performances before, so when I knew he would come here and perform, I bought his
concert tickets as soon as possible. I think that is the magic and power of live performances. No matter
how many times you have heard that song before, you still want to experience more about it. Live

From 1999 to 2009, concert ticket sales in the U.S. tripled from $1.5 billion to $4.6 billion, vastly
exceeding the growth of inflation and population growth (Lee, n.p.). It is obvious that the demand of
live performances keeps increasing and as Billboard stated 32 million people go to at least one U.S.
music festival every year (Lynch, n.p.). As an important part of the live performances, music festivals
are gaining the popularities world widely and people are willing to enjoy their leisure with friends and
families at music festivals. I went to several different kinds of music festivals at both China and
United States, and they were all great experiences. According to Timeout.com, among the list they
provided for 50 best music festivals around the world, there are 10 of them are music festivals taking

Point Of View In The Man From Mars By Margaret Atwood
Authors use point of view to send a message. Using different forms of point of view sends different
messages to the reader. By using point of view effectively, authors can invoke different feelings,
emotions, and thoughts in a reader. In The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood uses the third person
limited point of view to create the feeling of ambiguity seen throughout the short story. This point of
view allows the reader to feel the same sense of mystery, danger, and fear that the main protagonist,
Christine, feels towards the strange man stalking her. Because of the point of view, the story has this
impact. If told from the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person omniscient point of view, the story would be vastly
different. By using the 3rd person limited point of view in The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood
allows the reader to feel same sense of mystery that the main character feels while also getting in
touch with Christine s inner thoughts.
In the 1st person point of view the reader sees the story unfold from the perspective of the narrator.
Many novels use this convention such as classics like Catcher in the Rye and Treasure Island. This
point of view allows the reader to sympathize with the narrator/main character and place themselves in
the lives of these characters. Because of this, however, 1st person narration is limited and biased. The
narrator can only know what is taking place around them and even then, the narrator can be
considered unreliable due to being able to change certain

Positive Change In Food Waste Levels
Over the course of the last 47 years our level of wasted food has increased by 40% meaning that we
throw away one third of our food. This problem is also more devastating than most people realize. We
waste billions of dollars of food and the amount of food that just the united states wastes in one year
could fill 730 football stadiums. This food waste also is hurting the environment in a major way,
increasing our CO2 levels exponentially. All of this food that we waste could be going to serving the
homeless and starving. The best way to start to make positive change in food waste levels is to begin
to recognize the problem, spread awareness for the environmental damage it does, and to start to
implement policies that give small businesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if people understood that food would still not get to people who need it because getting the food
to the hungry and to shelters and the poor is not cheap for the suppliers and is actually cheaper for
them to just throw it away. That might be the biggest issue of all because for businesses to donate food
is very expensive, they have to box it, store it, coordinate delivery dates, and there s a lot of
overheads, and you cannot blame most companies for trying to make ends meat. Companies are also
not charities, which is why companies should be incentivized to donate food with tax breaks, large
corporations already get one, charity s get them and it would increase the amount of food that s being
donated exponentially. Especially for small companies because annoyingly small companies tax
breaks are not a permanent part of the tax code. This means that Congress has to keep renewing it
which is a problem, because family farms and local restaurants may not know if they re going to get
that break and the end of the year. So donating food might not be financially viable for them. IT s a
ridiculous system that prevents a lot of food from being donated. It s a widely agreed upon statement
that small businesses should receive tax incentives to donate food. Once we do this it will be just one
small piece of stopping this problem, and the

Loan Options For Real Estate Investing
Loan Options for Real Estate Investing
While investing in things like securities can cost as little as $20.00, investing in real estate involves far
more significant amounts of money. Most real estate investors don t have enough cash on hand to
cover the full cost of the property they are investing in. Instead, most are purchased using some form
of leverage. There are a number of loan options available to those who intend to purchase real estate
as an investment.

Government Grants
The Federal Government offers a number of grants aimed at helping real estate investors to fund
distressed property investments. Of course, these grants do come with a set of rules in place. The
investor must not only meet specific financial criteria but must also agree to improve the property
before he attempts to sell it. If you don t have enough cash reserves in place to meet this requirement,
this might not be the best option.
Non traditional Private Lender Financing
Just because your credit score and lack of assets stops you from securing favorable terms with a
traditional lender, doesn t mean you should give up on your investment. There are a number of non
traditional loan sources worth considering, including seller financing, peer to peer lending networks,
loan assumption, interest only loans, self directed IRA purchases, even friends, and family. Interests
rates for many of these forms of financing may be higher due to the appearance of you being a higher

Unlike residential real estate financing with its various government grants, commercial real estate
investors have only two financing options. The choices they have are through a bank or private

Toyota Essay
(b) Company background
Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in
Toyota, Aichi, Japan. Toyota is known as the second largest automotive manufacturer in world, behind
German Volkswagen Group in 2016. Toyota adopted JIT in the Toyota Production System (TPS) as a
means of eliminating the wastes in all aspects of production.
(c) Implementation of JIT by the company
In 1950, Toyota Motor Corporation had a difficulty to predict the size of their warehouse in order to
store their finish products and parts. They have to use large warehouse to store the vehicles before
shipping them to customers. It resulted in expensive inventory cost and waste associated with keeping
dead stock. This becomes the main reason for Toyota to implement JIT and Toyota Production System
(TPS) in their business operation.
The Toyota Production System (TPS) was established based on the philosophy of JIT, in which each
process produces only what is required by the next process in a continuous flow. Toyota aims to
produce high quality products that fulfill the needs of every customer through the complete
elimination of waste, inconsistencies, and unreasonable requirements ... Show more content on

and their issues that can described using this story. Whether Alice Walker portrayed Traynor as Elvis is

and that he is also attempting to discover the meaning of Gracie Mae s song but hasn t learned
anything. And then it s learned that Traynor had married and divorced 14 women and was currently
married to his 15th. There is no exact explanation given for the numerous marriages and divorces but
from my perspective the women all may have had some type of trait that Traynor temporarily wanted
and as time went on he fell out of love because they were not what he had really desired. The
connection he has with Gracie Mae has survived a couple of decades and she may be exactly what he
wants in a woman but can t find that in anyone else. In Gracie Mae s dream Traynor says, You marry

the story we see a letter delivered to Gracie Mae about Traynor joing the army and still thinking about

Mountains Beyond Mountains: Reflection The topic of human rights can be quite depressing. Between
human trafficking, genocide, poverty and the like, activism can seem like a lost cause. However,
Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder serves as a testament of activism s value and
demonstrates the link between poverty, illness, and governance. The story of Paul Farmer is both
inspirational and informative. Kidder does an excellent job of showing his incalculable compassion
through the description of his life. For example, chapter seven is a powerful testament of Farmer s
ambition and passion because it is written from the viewpoint of Ophelia Dahl. Dahl s letter is
especially powerful because we see how she was both drawn to Farmer and repelled from him because
of the depth of his compassion. Dahl loved him because he is a remarkably compassionate man but
knew this love was so powerful he would not devote enough time in his life to her. In turn, she also
respected his work enough to let him go so that he may focus on helping the people of Haiti and the
world. This chapter is so successful because it comes from the viewpoint of someone who got to know
the real Paul Farmer naturally. Unlike Kidder, who interviewed Farmer to write about his life, Dahl ...

Abstract
With the increasing dependency on wireless networks, the need for proper reliability analysis for
Mobile ad hoc networks (Manets) is also increasing. Failure of Manets in areas like warfare, nuclear
reactors, medical equipment and airplanes can lead to catastrophe. Unlike traditional networks,
measuring the reliability of Manets is a tedious task as it involves dynamically changing topology. The
existing methods for calculating reliability use two terminal analysis as the basis for calculation. It
uses the same method used for traditional computer networks to calculate reliability. However, the
method is not very efficient when it comes to the wireless networks as they are far different from
traditional networks. It is also a time consuming task to identify all the nodes and links in a wireless
network as nodes move freely in the network. In This paper, We are going to discuss about NLN(Node
Link Node) technique which reduces the complexity of analyzing the reliability in Manets.
Keywords: Manet, NodeLinkNode, Reliability.
INTRODUCTION:
The Mobile ad hoc networks is one of the emerging technologies today. The instability of the nodes in
a mobile ad hoc network makes it difficult to calculate the reliability of the network. When a node

The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus
The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, or Doctor Faustus, is a tragedy, written by Christopher
Marlowe, which conveys the heavy use of symbolism and allusions to illustrate the conflict between
good and evil during a time of rebirth in England. This play was first performed sometime between
1588 and 1593, and published sometime in the early 1600s and is based on the protagonist, Faustus,
who originates from a classic oral German legend. Doctor Faustus is one of the first of many
publications that center on the character that is Faust. Doctor Faustus tells the story of a man who has
made a deal with the devil in order to gain unlimited knowledge, which in turn, guides him down a
path of damnation and a constant struggle between right and wrong. The decisions that the titular
character makes throughout the story are presented through an overall theme of the English
Renaissance, along with symbolism and allegories that accompany the good and evil angels, as well as
the seven deadly sins. Marlowe wrote Doctor Faustus during the English Renaissance, and much of
what goes on throughout the play exemplifies the transition from the old medieval lifestyle to the new,
modern lifestyle. The Renaissance brought forth a flourishing amount of opportunities in education
and other social aspects and made it possible for people to rise up through society by working hard
and by having ambition. Faustus heavily embodies many of the changes in principle that went on in

Comparing The Abrahamic Religions, Judaism And Christianity
The Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Christianity, are two of the most prominent religions in the
world. Similar to the majority of the religions in terms of origin, Christianity emerged from Judaism.
Thus, resulting in not only comparable aspects common to both religions but also vast differences as
well.
Since one religion stemmed from the other, there are various overlaps between their values, beliefs,
practices, and traditions. To begin with, like all Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Christianity are both
monotheistic religions. Therefore meaning that they believe in only one God. This shared God is
considered the almighty creator of everything, but is said to be an outside creation himself. However,
Christian ideology expanded the monotheistic belief and created a new foundation concerning the
essence of God. Despite its founding principles and the existing general beliefs regarding the
classification of the religion, according to Judaic principles, Christianity is not considered to be truly
monotheistic due to its belief in the Trinity. The Trinity is the doctrine that states that God possesses
the form of three people, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Hence, the differing aspects in
relation to monotheistic basis, instead of God existing in only one form for true monotheistic religions,
he holds the capacity to appear in three manifestations in correspondence with Christian beliefs.
Therefore, Judaism and Christianity share the same fundamentals yet differ in

Civil Disobedience As A Form Of Eco-Terrorism

other more violent environmental terrorist groups such as ELF (Earth Liberation Front) to see the lack

against the use of timber in which arsonists caused $12 26 million in damage, and as a result affected
the well being of the native Canadian lynx. Furthermore, over the past decade, the group has claimed

Dr Jennifer Welchman of the University of Alberta notes how covert sabotage, acts of violence and
assault (traits shown by ELF ) were all means by which legal practices may be deliberately obstructed
implying motives for terrorism. She continues to mention how acts such as tree spiking however, do
not pose as great as threat. Those affected were adequately warned of the risks handling affected trees.
Welchman believes that such actions do not appear to stretch civility to the breaking point. Thus we
should recognise eco sabotage as form of civil disobedience , stating that it should not be classed as
form of eco terrorism. Professor Michael Walzer of Social Sciences at Princeton mentions a crucial
difference between Eco Terrorism and other tactics. According to him Terrorism has no boundaries,
and has no consideration for the law. Walzer states how it breaks across moral limits beyond which no

America in the 1960s and 1970s is often associated with the hippie counterculture of the antiwar

cultural movement that promoted peace and rejected mainstream culture. The hippie counterculture
emerged due to America s youth being dissatisfied with America s political and social traditions and

Risk Management Task 1a
JIT Task 1 Risk Management
Risk Management
From the last decade risk management is the most researched and exciting area in the financial
industry as it elaborates how to minimize and avert the hazard of risk from the portfolios of different
assets and from the operations of financial institutions. Regulators and depositors mainly emphasize
the risk management and according to them risk management is an essential ingredient to enhance the
value of shareholders and increase their level of confidence. Risk management is the assessment of
risks to mitigate, monitor and control the probability or impact on uncertain events. Risk management
methods vary from industry to industry for instance it cannot be same for project management, ...

governments operating in the complex economic environment of the 21st century must contend with
a broad range of risks. Some do so in an adhoc or reactive fashion, responding to risks as they appear,
whilst others are proactive, planning in advance the risks that they wish to assume and how they can
best manage them. Since it has become clear over the past few years that risk can be financially
damaging when neglected, anecdotal and empirical evidence suggests that institutions increasingly opt
for formalized processes to manage uncertainties that can lead to losses. Risk can be classified in a
number of ways and though we do not intend to present a detailed taxonomy of risk, a brief overview
is useful in order to frame my discussion. To begin, risk can be divided broadly into financial risk and
operating risk. Financial risk is the risk of loss arising from the movement of a market or performance
of a counterparty and can be segregated into market risk (the risk of loss due to movement in market
references, such as interest rates, stock prices or currency rates), liquidity risk (the risk of loss due to
an inability to obtain unsecured funding or sell assets in order to make payments) and credit risk (the
risk of loss due to non performance by a counterparty on its contractual obligations). A rise in funding
costs, an inability to sell financial assets at carrying value or the default by a counterparty on a loan

Illinois Beach State Park Case Study
When going to the sand dunes of the Illinois Beach State Park, we wanted to test the effects of
different environment on succession, ecosystem development. The problem was to find out if there is
a succession (ecosystem development) of plant communities taking place. If the sand dune s closer to
the lake are newer than those further inland, then, I believe succession will take place because the
newest dunes do not have rich enough soil to support more complex plants like trees and shrubs
growing in the areas that have already gone through later stage succession. The data supported our
hypothesis.
The area with the most vegetation was the C index. There were certain plants in abundance in certain
indexes, however, most plants remained in every index. The soil also changed throughout each index.
It went from sandy, in an area closer to the water and directly in the sun, to moist in the forest area, not
in direct sunlight. This shows an ecosystem going from a simple to a complex community. ... Show

The WC was only found in the B6 to the C10 indexes, which showed the middle stage. Also, the
cactus found only in indexes C7 to D10 represented the late stage, or the climax community . We also
found the CJ appearing in the early middle, showing the zone that it occurs in. The tall green leaf plant
was found only during the early B stage, therefore, it must only survive in dry, sandy soil. In addition,
we found some horse tails only in the A index, this represents a primary succession, whereas in index
D, it may have been more of a secondary succession due to the soil being wetter and

The Banning Of The Lottery In The United States
The history of the lottery began some fifty plus years ago where before then it was banned in every
state in America. After state governments decided it was partly their responsibility to protect citizens
from the dangers of gambling, they found it to be their duty to govern the lottery. New Hampshire
established the first state lottery in 1964, it then soon spread throughout the northeast. All the states
between Maryland and Maine had a lottery, by 1978. Lotteries went west in the 1980s, adding 18
more states from Virginia to California. The southern states held out the longest. In the 1990s, only
three southern states authorized lotteries and five more in the 2000s. Today 44 states promote and
operate lotteries with Wyoming being the last

Galaxy Toys Chapter Summaries
Summary
Galaxy Toys, the largest privately owned toy company in the USA, has been under the same
management for over thirty years, and has undergone notable changes in management style in that
time. Bart Aldrin has brought with him techniques and a management style that have not only
improved the methodology of toy assembly, but also optimized shipping processes for the company
during his time as a manager. In the late 1980 s and early 90 s, there was a major shift in management
that inspired Aldrin and other managers to reconsider their management approach. When American
run companies began to suffer in the late 1980 s, Aldrin implemented the principles of Theory Z, and
revitalized the company from within. Upon Aldrin s retirement, Joyce Barnhart will replace him and
lead the company towards the future utilizing 21st century management principles.
Part One
Up until the late 1980 s and early 90 s, management at Galaxy Toys focused heavily on task efficiency
implemented training methods designed to ensure employees were highly specialized, and highly
efficient, at their tasks. Since then, advancements in technology, threats by workers to unionize, a
greater demand for employee management participation, work life balance and a general shift in
employee workplace values, as well as globalization have created a need for management to
reevaluate their style yet again. In 1981, William Ouchi s book, Theory Z: How American Business
Can Meet the Japanese Challenge hit the

United Kingdom s Employment Law and Relationships
Wedderburn has a significant point in his statement that United Kingdom employment relationships
are highly regulated by law. It would be more accurate, however, to state that there are certain areas of
employment law that are well regulated from a variety of different sources. Prior to denoting just what
these sources are and what effects they have on various employers, employees, and organized labor
unions, however, it is necessary to delineate the development of employment law throughout the
United Kingdom which, given this region s lengthy history, is fairly recent.
Prior to the midway point of the 20th century, there was no employment law in the UK or throughout
various other parts of Europe as well. For the most part, all employment relationships took the form of
master/servant roles, with the latter having fairly little say in the terms and conditions of their
employment. In the 1960 s, however, this decidedly laissez faire approach was replaced by a few
minimum standards protocols that dealt with safety and economic dismissal. One of the regulations
that emerged regarding the latter topic was the 1965 Redundancy Payment Act, which issued
stipulations and standards for termination (Gunter, 1965).
Trade unions truly emerged as a powerhouse and one of the key drivers for employment relationship
in the 1970 s. Collective bargaining was rampant and even advocated by governmental entities to
prevent strikes from occurring. Perhaps the most important aspect of this epoch

5 Reasons To Cheat On Your Girlfriend
* I have a message for all the men out there addicted to pornography. In this post, you will not find
porn to be one of the reasons to cheat on your girlfriend. Despite my contrarian views on relationships,
I stand firm in my position that if your addiction to porn caused you to stray in a relationship, then
none of these reasons apply to you. You owe it to YOURSELF to get your porn addiction handled.

Statistically, he probably does. Men need to understand the concept of cheating thoroughly. Men want
to have sex with as many attractive women as possible and women want, ultimately, have a man
committed to her emotionally and sexually, excluding all other women. Biology dictates both wants
and society enforces and enables both sexes to achieve these wants. When I mention women in this
article, I do not necessarily include modern women . That is, women who are financially independent
and do not have nor feel the need to depend on men for anything. I ll be first to admit that our society
is rapidly changing and a lot of this article will be generalities. Generalities, but ultimately, the
undeniable truth. Its your choice as a man as to how you view your relationships with women. For, the
curious, yes I ve cheated plenty.
1) Its in your nature as a man: A healthy male produces billions and billion of sperm each time he
ejaculates. He recovers within a few minutes to an hour and is again ready to produce billions of
sperm. Women produce one or two eggs at a time and are only able to get pregnant mostly through
middle age. Most men can produce healthy sperm too the day their heart stops beating. No biological
clock for males. Biology naturally dictates that he impregnate as many healthy females as possible.
Thousands of years ago, man spread his seed freely, without the spectre of cheating hovering over
him. Its what nature

  • 2. United States Army Special Forces Essay The United States Army Special Forces The first military establishment was formed before the United States was officially declared a country for the purpose of meeting the needs of the colonists during the American Revolution. The Army s mission is to fight and win the Nation s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across a full range of military operations. Although the history of the United States Army is deeply rooted in the country s history, the implementation of the United States Special Forces Operations Unit is fairly young having been established in May 1952 yet unannounced to the public until 1954. In an effort to uphold the Army s mission, the Special Forces Operations Unit was initially formed to assist with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Army considered guerilla warfare to be part of unconventional warfare ... (p. 1). While today the Special Forces Operations Units are seen as heroes and the highest caliber of enlisted men in the Army, they were not initially seen as an elite group. Perhaps the Special Forces did not receive the recognition they deserved because their successes in psychological and counterinsurgency warfare strategies were immeasurable during World War II and the Korean War. President Kennedy s administration would lead the way for the Army s Green Berets and later the Navy SEALS. However, it wasn t until the Vietnam War that unconventional warfare, or guerilla warfare as it became known, was utilized in a capacity that would expand the effectiveness and duties of the Special Forces Units. As the son of an enlisted Army soldier who served initially as a member of the 5th Specials Forces Unit and the 101st Airborne Division followed by time of duty with the Green Berets, a Ranger unit, and Delta Force during the Vietnam conflict, guerilla warfare was a frequent topic of conversation. • 3. Zimbardo Prison Experiment Stu Zimbardo Prison Experiments The Zimbardo prison experiment was set up to investigate the problem of what the psychological effects for normal people result from being a guard or inmate, and in a broader sense are normal people capable of being evil. The research question being asked was, How would normal people react to being in a simulated prison environment? In Zimbardo s own words, Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew they would be going into a prison like environment and that some of their civil rights would be sacrificed. Would those good people, (when) put in that bad, evil place (have) their goodness triumph? Zimbardo set up his experiment to test the validity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me, even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. On the other hand, if I was a guard I definitely would not have been an asshole like about a third of the guards were, and I wouldn t be a silent observer or accomplice like ... Has Hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games Been Successful in Fulfilling The Olympic legacy? London was placed on the shortlist for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics host city back in May 2004. The International Olympics Committee (IOC) eventually announced that London had been successful in July 2005 following a large campaign backing the bid. The bid for the games was led by London 2012; a multi agency stakeholder group, setting the vision and strategic direction for the games (Department of Culture, Media and Sport 2012). 204 competing nations, more than 10,000 athletes, two weeks of sports, and the games ... So therefore where the media exposes the benefits of hosting the games such as increased investment and development, this all has to be funded through public accounts which requires reduced benefits elsewhere, or cuts in household disposable income levels. The bid for the games featured the slogan Inspire a Generation with the reason behind the slogan being to trigger involvement of young people in sports and taking up new activities (Magnay 2012). There are two programmes introduced to encourage community sports; Places People Play and a Join in program. Places People Play is a joint partnership initiative between Sport England and the British Olympic Association with the aim of making the benefits of London 2012 visible in cities, towns and villages across the country (SportEngland.org 2012). Two examples of poetry in film is Snyder s 300 (2006) and Weir s Gallipoli (1981), Both films have a theme of War one that glorifies it and the other denounces it. Despite the films being different in genre and mood, both films have strong poetic devices such as hyperbole, symbolism and repetition. During Snyder s 300 many forms of hyperbole were used to portray the Glory of War which is the main theme for the film. An example of hyperbole, which is noticeable throughout the entire film, is the enhanced colouring to make the figures and scenes appear like a graphic novel. This is because the original story line was based on Frank Millar s 300 graphic novel series. The end half of the movie used exaggerated features more often, from the beast like features on Persia s fighters to Leonidas war cry nearing the end of the final battle. The directors have used this poetic device to create a stronger sense of emotion for the film. Weir s Gallipoli had less hyperbole than Snyder s 300, however still used many of the basic aspects to make the film a form of poetry. • 6. Research on the Cell Cycle of an Onion Root Tip Introduction: Cell cycle is a series of sequenced events in a Eukaryotic (a cell with a nucleus and membrane bounded organelles) from its origin until its division to produce two daughter cells. There are different forms of cell division: mitosis: an asexual division that produces daughter nuclei with the exact copies of the parent nuclei and Meiosis; cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes to produce specialized cells called gametes (sex cells) that produces half the number of chromosome of the parent cell. Cell cycle is divided in three major steps: interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis. During interphase step, the cell produces proteins particular cells need to function properly. Interphase is separated into three phases: G1 phase where most cell s organelles duplicate leading the cell to grow and expand, Synthesis phase where the DNA in the chromosome replicate, and G2 phase where the proteins are synthesized preparing mitosis for cell division. Due to the numerous activities going on, the cell spends a lot of time in interphase. Next major step of the cell cycle is the mitotic (M) phase, during which the cell splits into two distinct cells, often called daughter cells . Mitosis is accomplished during four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. During prophase, the replicated chromosomes condense, so they can move around freely, nuclear envelopes, the membrane that surrounds the nucleus scatters, and spindle protein structures called ... In Bradbury s and Vonnegut s fictitious stories, The Pedestrian , Fahrenheit 451 , and Harrison Bergeron , these concepts and their relationship is depicted to the reader in the form of dystopias. These dystopias may not exist, but these science fictional societies certainly could be made to exist. Her voice was warm, luminous, timeless melody (Kurt Bergeron Page. 3). Not only could this cause a person to be miserable with their work, but it limits the occupations one can have, and makes it extremely hard to exceed in a trade or career. Two of my friends and I had the ability to design our own community service project. I particularly was drawn to the issue of poverty in my hometown. I had always had an idea of what I thought homelessness was, however, as I talked to the manager of a Council Bluffs homeless shelter, The MICAH House, I realized I was completely wrong. Homelessness is not always like the stereotypical picture that the media portrays, but a mere lack of resources, resulting in complete inability for one to reground themselves. From that point on, I felt permanently attached to the matter. The largest issue that was revealed to us, among the shelter, was the lack of transportation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This amendment was a huge failure because it causes people to go behind the laws back and drink illegally. There was a secret drinking establishment called speakeasies and there were also people who provided alcohol illegally and they were called bootleggers. The act that enforced prohibition was the volstead act. Congress passes the Volstead Act over President Woodrow Wilson s veto. The Volstead Act provided for the enforcement of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, also known as the Prohibition Amendment. In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed and ratified, repealing prohibition. • 11. Total Forms Control Case Summary 1. Total Forms Control (TFC) fit well into Western s strategy when it was initially implemented. It allowed Western to offer these value added services to their customers that most of their competitors did not. Total Forms Control should have increased Western s margins and helped them to increase the loyalty and number of customers. TFC was not performing up to expectations. It had become an increasingly time consuming process and profits from TFC had been consistently declining over the past several years, projected to drop a total of 14% in only two years. 2. Distributing services using activity based costing reveals that Customer A is a highly more profitable consumer to Western than Customer B, despite identical net sales (see attached). Customer A uses less storage, delivery services, has fewer requisitions and a smaller inventory balance, making them a more inexpensive customer to service, in comparison to Customer B. 5. An analysis of the individual customer accounts suggest that TFC s current pricing model is ineffective. They are undercharging an alarming number of their customers thereby reducing their overall profitability. Based on this information, managers will hopefully elect to implement the services based pricing model so that customers are charged based on the services they are actually consuming. Ideally, changing the current pricing model will resolve the issue of customers reducing profit by 140% and 60% (Exhibit 8, numbers 3 and 4). If there are still profit draining customers, management should revisit and assess accordingly, either further increasing fees to those customers so their contribution is positive, or perhaps dropping these customers to increase overall profitability. 6. I think the largest issues in adopting Service Based Pricing would be the opposition from the salespeople and the customers. In most cases, fees will increase and it s unlikely that this change will be welcomed by either party. Western may lose customers if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Spanish Colonization Of North America Spanish Colonization of North America In 1492 when Christopher Columbus discovered the New World, Spain had discovered its next easy conquest. With North America added to its territory Spain had surpassed ancient Rome as the largest empire. Exploiting the land, labor, and minerals Spain quickly conquered and settled most of South America, the Caribbean, and the Southwest. Spain used its new wealth to help finance their war in Europe. With promises of riches and many natives to convert to Christianity the Spanish sent conquistadors who brought with them not only superior military technology but also diseases like smallpox, scarlet fever, and the bubonic plague decimating native populations like the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas. These Spanish conquistadors, who were poverty stricken nobles predominantly from the west and south of Spain, were then awarded encomiendas, land grants that included the right to force native populations into slavery as long as the convert them to Christianity (Shmoop Editorial Team, 2008). The Spanish Monarchy governed North America using viceroyalties and audencias, royal mediation courts. The church also played a part in governing the New World and large areas like what is known today as Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California was under control of Dominican, Franciscan, and Jesuit missionaries with the goal of converting the natives to Catholicism. Animals have provided transportation, food, clothing, shelter, companionship and entertainment throughout the ages. Therefore, it is our duty to treat animals with respect, care and kindness and not cause them undue suffering, because they have, in many ways, made it possible for man to survive on earth. However, because normal adult humans have superior mental abilities in the hierarchical scale in nature, animals have fewer rights than humans. He does not mention however, that all species use each other as resources that is the way of nature. He seems to be denying or ignoring that natural phenomenon. Everything and everyone is a resource in one way or another. Humans and animals are hosts for many insects, parasites and microscopic organisms, which are part of nature s food chain. As founder of the Animal Rights Liberation, utilitarian Peter Singer agrees with Regan s opinion that we are guilty of speciesism. He defines speciesism as a prejudice or attitude of bias toward the interests of members of one s own species. He informs the reader that he owes this term to Richard Ryder. In his essay All Animals are Equal , Singer laments the fact that the majority of humans take an active part in, or allow their taxes to pay for the sacrificing species in order to promote their self interests. When these four domains work congruently it stabilizes an individual in both work and home relationship (Goleman, 2013). It is also imperative to put these three domains together for healthy relationships to occur. These four domains also lend into social intelligence placing people together as you and I instead of I and it, and these two modes of relating to others takes the object out of how one views people. Experiencing Self Awareness Daniel Goleman provides examples of individuals experiencing self awareness at both work and in one s life (Goleman, 2013). Being conscious of one s inner world, beliefs, thoughts, and concepts are what comprise self awareness. In one s daily life there are situations, struggles, and trials which can impact sound judgement and resolution. Self awareness helps the individual make healthy decisions and knowing when to ask for help to cope with an overwhelming issue. Two arguments which can be used to argue on the side of discrimination are the First Amendment used in tandem with corporate personhood and the First Amendment used on its own. I argue, however, that corporate personhood is not a legitimate argument nor is the First Amendment grounds for an individual to discriminate against another. Another defense of discrimination against consumers is the first section of the Thirteenth Amendment. The elimination and prevention of the entirety of such discrimination could be carried out through enacting a single two part law. Two defenses of discrimination include a combination of the First Amendment with each current precedent regarding corporations and of its own accord. Current precedent is the concept of corporate personhood wherein a corporation is treated as a person albeit with controversy regarding their treatment (Ripken, 2010). When this precedent is used in tandem with the provision that the free exercise of religion shall not be prohibited in the First Amendment, this makes a case that the government may not prohibit a corporation from exercising a religion (U.S. Const. amend. XIX). The other possible argument regarding the First Amendment is the individual s right to exercise their religion. Each of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He goes on to say A corporation is an artificial person (Friedman, 1970) and since this is not a real person, cannot have any responsibilities. While a corporation or business has a leader or board of directors, Friedman states these individuals cannot make decisions on social responsibility without eating into the profits of the company, the employee s wages, or even the price that the customer has to pay for the item. Upon my first review of Friedman s article, I thought he was throwing everything about a good company out the window. After reading it a second time, and realizing it was written in 1970, I believe he was stating the first responsibility of a company is to make a profit. Why else would you be in business? Bush has described the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as fostering a monumental battle of good versus evil. In this battle, there has been no doubt in his mind (or in ours) regarding who is on the side of good and who is on the side of evil. Though some have winced at the President s use of such absolute moral terms to portray the tragic events of that fateful day, others have applauded his courageous use of such unfashionable discourse as entirely appropriate, even suggesting that it implies the demise of the cultural scourge of postmodern moral relativism. According to the editors of Foreign Affairs, Huntington s article generated more response over a three year period than any other article they had published since the 1940s. Given the interest in, as well as the controversy over and misrepresentation of his article, Huntington decided that the prudent thing to do would be to expand it into a book length treatment in which he would explore more deeply and document more thoroughly the thesis he propounded in his article. So the outcome was a 1996 book titled The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of the World Order.4 In this work conceived as an interpretation of the evolution of global politics after the Cold War, Huntington aspires, as he says, to present a framework, a paradigm, for viewing global politics that will be meaningful to scholars and useful to policymakers. 5 Its central theme is virtually identical to that of his article, namely that culture and cultural identities, which at Huntington is the Albert J. • 22. Christianity And Birth Control Human life is a sacred right that all individuals possess. It is unlawful and mortally sinful to take away or prevent the life of an infant. Human life is sacred all men must recognize that fact, said Pope John XXIII in defense of the unborn (John XXIII). To be truly pro life, one must accept that doing so does not only refer to being opposed to abortion, but also being opposed to birth control and contraception. The Catholic Church has professed for two thousand years that the conjugal act is a gift from God to married couples for the sole purpose of procreation. This gift is abused and perverted by humans; who view conjugal love as a means of pleasure rather than what it truly is. Abortion, contraception and birth control are three methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The popularity and convenience of birth control has led to a higher popularity of abortions. Historically, Christianity has always condemned birth control and the contraceptive mentality for 2,000 years until the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in 1930 (Carlson). Many other Protestant communities jumped on the bandwagon and embraced this modern and destructive practice. The Roman Catholic Church has stood firm in her tradition and doctrine during these dark times. His Holiness, Pope Paul VI, condemned birth control and contraception as immoral in the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae. Consequently, it is a serious error to think that a whole married life of otherwise normal relations can justify sexual intercourse which is deliberately contraceptive and so intrinsically wrong (Paul VI). Anyone who claims to be pro life, yet embraces contraceptives, is truly flattering himself. God struck Onan dead in Genesis for performing coitus interruptus, spilling his seed on the ground, which is a severe punishment indeed. Imagine the anger of God toward those who interfere with the means to create life that he gave humanity. Using birth control is telling God that man controls creation, not Him. It is intrinsically blasphemous and disobedient in nature. Sexual immorality is condemned by the Bible and birth control certainly falls within this category since it is a means to misuse intimacy for the purpose of pleasure, rather than procreation. Christian and non Christian married couples should use sex for procreation instead of using each others bodies just for pleasure. Pleasures are so readily available in this world, and now God s own generative process is being corrupted by modern medicine. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. • 24. Point Of View In The Man From Mars By Margaret Atwood Authors use point of view to send a message. Using different forms of point of view sends different messages to the reader. By using point of view effectively, authors can invoke different feelings, emotions, and thoughts in a reader. In The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood uses the third person limited point of view to create the feeling of ambiguity seen throughout the short story. This point of view allows the reader to feel the same sense of mystery, danger, and fear that the main protagonist, Christine, feels towards the strange man stalking her. Because of the point of view, the story has this impact. If told from the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person omniscient point of view, the story would be vastly different. By using the 3rd person limited point of view in The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood allows the reader to feel same sense of mystery that the main character feels while also getting in touch with Christine s inner thoughts. In the 1st person point of view the reader sees the story unfold from the perspective of the narrator. Many novels use this convention such as classics like Catcher in the Rye and Treasure Island. This point of view allows the reader to sympathize with the narrator/main character and place themselves in the lives of these characters. Because of this, however, 1st person narration is limited and biased. The narrator can only know what is taking place around them and even then, the narrator can be considered unreliable due to being able to change certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Companies are also not charities, which is why companies should be incentivized to donate food with tax breaks, large corporations already get one, charity s get them and it would increase the amount of food that s being donated exponentially. However, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder serves as a testament of activism s value and demonstrates the link between poverty, illness, and governance. The story of Paul Farmer is both inspirational and informative. Kidder does an excellent job of showing his incalculable compassion through the description of his life. For example, chapter seven is a powerful testament of Farmer s ambition and passion because it is written from the viewpoint of Ophelia Dahl. Dahl s letter is especially powerful because we see how she was both drawn to Farmer and repelled from him because of the depth of his compassion. Dahl loved him because he is a remarkably compassionate man but knew this love was so powerful he would not devote enough time in his life to her. In turn, she also respected his work enough to let him go so that he may focus on helping the people of Haiti and the world. Analysis of Reliability Calculations in Mobile Ad hoc Networks Sai Charan Goud Kolanu, Tejaswi Reddy Karemma Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science California State University, Long Beach Abstract With the increasing dependency on wireless networks, the need for proper reliability analysis for Mobile ad hoc networks (Manets) is also increasing. Failure of Manets in areas like warfare, nuclear reactors, medical equipment and airplanes can lead to catastrophe. Unlike traditional networks, measuring the reliability of Manets is a tedious task as it involves dynamically changing topology. The existing methods for calculating reliability use two terminal analysis as the basis for calculation. It uses the same method used for traditional computer networks to calculate reliability. However, the method is not very efficient when it comes to the wireless networks as they are far different from traditional networks. It is also a time consuming task to identify all the nodes and links in a wireless network as nodes move freely in the network. Similar to the majority of the religions in terms of origin, Christianity emerged from Judaism. Thus, resulting in not only comparable aspects common to both religions but also vast differences as well. Since one religion stemmed from the other, there are various overlaps between their values, beliefs, practices, and traditions. To begin with, like all Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Christianity are both monotheistic religions. Therefore meaning that they believe in only one God. This shared God is considered the almighty creator of everything, but is said to be an outside creation himself. However, Christian ideology expanded the monotheistic belief and created a new foundation concerning the essence of God. Despite its founding principles and the existing general beliefs regarding the classification of the religion, according to Judaic principles, Christianity is not considered to be truly monotheistic due to its belief in the Trinity. The Trinity is the doctrine that states that God possesses the form of three people, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Some do so in an adhoc or reactive fashion, responding to risks as they appear, whilst others are proactive, planning in advance the risks that they wish to assume and how they can best manage them. Since it has become clear over the past few years that risk can be financially damaging when neglected, anecdotal and empirical evidence suggests that institutions increasingly opt for formalized processes to manage uncertainties that can lead to losses. • 45. Illinois Beach State Park Case Study When going to the sand dunes of the Illinois Beach State Park, we wanted to test the effects of different environment on succession, ecosystem development. The problem was to find out if there is a succession (ecosystem development) of plant communities taking place. If the sand dune s closer to the lake are newer than those further inland, then, I believe succession will take place because the newest dunes do not have rich enough soil to support more complex plants like trees and shrubs growing in the areas that have already gone through later stage succession. The data supported our hypothesis. The area with the most vegetation was the C index. There were certain plants in abundance in certain indexes, however, most plants remained in every index. The soil also changed throughout each index. It went from sandy, in an area closer to the water and directly in the sun, to moist in the forest area, not in direct sunlight. This shows an ecosystem going from a simple to a complex community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The WC was only found in the B6 to the C10 indexes, which showed the middle stage. • 49. United Kingdom s Employment Law and Relationships Wedderburn has a significant point in his statement that United Kingdom employment relationships are highly regulated by law. It would be more accurate, however, to state that there are certain areas of employment law that are well regulated from a variety of different sources. Prior to denoting just what these sources are and what effects they have on various employers, employees, and organized labor unions, however, it is necessary to delineate the development of employment law throughout the United Kingdom which, given this region s lengthy history, is fairly recent. Prior to the midway point of the 20th century, there was no employment law in the UK or throughout various other parts of Europe as well. For the most part, all employment relationships took the form of master/servant roles, with the latter having fairly little say in the terms and conditions of their employment. In the 1960 s, however, this decidedly laissez faire approach was replaced by a few minimum standards protocols that dealt with safety and economic dismissal. One of the regulations that emerged regarding the latter topic was the 1965 Redundancy Payment Act, which issued stipulations and standards for termination (Gunter, 1965). Trade unions truly emerged as a powerhouse and one of the key drivers for employment relationship in the 1970 s. Collective bargaining was rampant and even advocated by governmental entities to prevent strikes from occurring. Perhaps the most important aspect of this epoch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
