The Death Of Jean Pierre Grumbach
Born in Paris in the middle of World War I, Jean Pierre Grumbach knew he wanted to be a filmmaker
at a very early age. After receiving a Pathé Baby camera at the age of seven, he went on to create the
equivalent of thirty short movies in various formats for friends and family by the time he turned
twenty. His burgeoning career and dreams of being a film director were interrupted by Nazi Germany
and the Second World War, but instead of evacuating to the United Kingdom he stayed in his
homeland and fought, wisely changing his last name to Melville after his favorite author. Now a
veteran of the Resistance in Nazi occupied France, Jean Pierre Melville later used his love of
filmmaking and American gangster movies, accompanied by his disdain for the domineering French
cinema establishment, to invent an entire genre of films and inspire an army of young directors to
ignore conventional methods and embrace their own creations in their own unique ways.
THE ACCIDENTAL ICON
From the beginning, Melville caught the attention of audiences and critics with his hardboiled crime
noir films both in terms of storytelling and filming techniques. So much so that writers coined a term
for his films and those soon to follow by others directors as the French New
Wave, and Melville was the Godfather. Part of Melville s motivation for this new style was his intense
dissatisfaction with the imperious demands of the Director s Guild as he personally defined the French
New Wave as an

The Efficacy of Patient-Controlled Analgesia
The practice of patient controlled analgesia (PCA) has been around for approximately four decades
now. During this time there have been improvements to the technology and the understanding of how
to use this form of patient pain control; however, there continues to be concern related to the safety
and efficacy of PCA. As this analysis proceeds it will briefly explain what PCA is and how it is used,
then delve into the benefits and the safety issues surrounding PCA use as it pertains to the patient and
the nurse. Some of the benefits of PCA include improved pain management, improved use of nursing
resources, increased patient satisfaction, and reduced pulmonary issues (Hicks, Sikirica, Nelson,
Schein Cousins, 2008). Some of the safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only patient activation of their infusion pump allows for this fundamental safeguard to come into
play. Later in this paper we will discuss the safety issues related to the activation of a PCA infusion
pump by someone other than the patient, a practice called PCA by proxy. Although there appears to be
significant benefits to the use of PCA infusion pumps, there are significant safety issues arising from
the use of PCA infusion pumps that can cause severe harm and potentially even death. Some of these
safety issues include infusion pump programming errors, basal infusion of opioids, and PCA by proxy.
A leading type of error identified in doing harm to PCA patients is the improper dosage or quantity of
analgesic medication (Hicks et al, 2008). This sort of error took place on a patient returning to a
hospital for postoperative pain management following a recent surgical procedure. The nurse was
given an order to manage the patient s pain with hydromorphone administered via PCA infusion
pump. In programming the pump the nurse inadvertently changed the concentration of the medication
from 1mg/ml to 0.3mg/ml, thus leading to errors in both the

Flood In New York City
Two of the greatest natural disasters, causing death and destruction, are floods and typhoons. The
contents of this paper will contain an analysis and report on the issue of flooding in the Asian
Megacities of Bangkok and Manila. These cities will be compared to one another and to the American
megacity New York City. The analysis of New York City will contain the cities vulnerability that
occurs due to wind, rain, and flooding, along with efforts in preventing flooding at the time of a storm
coming from the Pacific Ocean.
Causes of Flooding An estimated 13 percent (around 470 million) of the world s urban population
lives in low lying coastal areas; most of the world s megacities (i.e., cities of over 10 million
population) lie on coasts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flood risk has increased in New York City due to storm surges and human caused sea level rising,
such as melting glaciers. The sea level has increased drastically from 850 to 1800 between the years of
1970 and 2005. Prior to 1800, a flood that was 2.25 m (7.4 ft) above sea level occurred once every 500
years. Since 1970, a storm of that size occurs approximately every 24 years (Worland, 2015). New
York City was severely affected in November 2012 by Hurricane Sandy. At least 53 people were killed
as a result of the storm and caused $32 billion in damage. A professional emergency management
system has been put into effect in New York City. The city has published and utilized evacuation zone
maps, which have shown effectiveness. Due to the levels throughout the city, only about 30 percent of
the population would have to be evacuated and would not have to move too far inland to higher areas.

Filmore Furniture Case

Key Events:
Fred Filmore opened Filmore Furniture in 1970, a company that manufactures small colonial
furniture. After 13 years, he retired and sold his business to his son Phil Filmore who was an
aggressive manager, strategist and modernized in introducing new product designs and new marketing
skills. Phil owns 63% of the business, shareholders own another 31%, and some employees account
for the other 6%. His marketing strategies and skills with his engineer Jean Lechaise brought business

These suppliers have slightly more bargaining power because of the differentiation between their
work. However the need for these suppliers can be eliminated if furniture manufacturers produce
every piece of their products themselves. A furniture manufacturer will only outsource production of
parts if it proves to be cost effective for their company. Since the price of materials is consistent
market and the outsourcing of production is unnecessary, suppliers have low bargaining power in the
furniture manufacturing industry.
Power of Substitutes VERY LOW
As previously stated the buyers in the furniture manufacturing industry are furniture retailers.
Therefore they will require furniture to continue business. There are no substitutes that provide the
same use as furniture. In relation to the furniture industry as a whole, there are still very little
substitutes to furniture aside from a higher use of closet space or unorthodox measures by consumers.
An example of this would be one s choice to live without furniture, which in most cases is very
unlikely. Furniture has become a household necessity and consumers have little or no desire to change
their lifestyles by eliminating that need. Therefore the threat of substitutes to the furniture
manufacturing industry is very low to the point where it is almost non existent.

The Piano Lesson, By August Wilson
In The Piano Lesson, by August Wilson, Berniece struggles with her personal connection with the
piano. Her families past reveal her relationship with the piano. The piano meant a lot of things to a lot
of different people over the years. The piano is a complex and multilayers symbol; its meanings are
both personal and political. For example, Berniece was affected by the piano positively and
negatively. She had a sentimental connection with it and never wanted to get rid of it. But the piano
had a lot of history behind it and it also carries a lot of meaning to it. Berniece stopped playing the
piano for a while because of all the spirits inside of it and how they started to haunt other people.
Berniece saw Boy Willie getting attacked by Sutter s ghost and that made her realize she needs to let
go of the past and play the piano again. But what was ironic is that she tried her best to forget the
family history that came with the piano, she can never let go of her families past no matter what she
does. This reveals that people should come to good terms with their past and learn to overcome it.
The piano affected her positively because Berniece liked playing the piano. She would play it all the
time for Mama Ola and her daughter learned how to play it as well. It affected her negatively because
it had a gruesome past. Bernieces family would die over that piano. For example, Boy Charles died in
the boxcars in a fire after the piano was found missing. After this tragedy, the piano

Chromalveolata Observation Essay
The Chromalveolata supergroup has a clade called alveolates. The alveolates are named as such
because under their cell membrane it has an alveolus. An alveolus is a membrane enclosed sac that has
an uncertain responsibility however it is suggested that it has something to do with osmoregulation.
Osmoregulation is the maintenance of keeping the water quantity at a proper ratio. Alveolates has
three groups that consists of the apicomplexans, the dinoflagellates, and the ciliates.
The dinoflagellates can range from photosynthetic, mixotrophic, and heterotrophic which deals with
how an organism receives its nutrition needed for survival. A majority of dinoflagellates have
connecting plates that are made of cellulose and two ninety degree angled flagella. The flagella are
able to be positioned into the connecting plates. One of the flagella is surrounds the dinoflagellate
while the other one runs lengthwise. The function of the flagella is to assist the dinoflagellates
movement of rotation. Figure 1 demonstrates the wide variety that dinoflagellates can be.
Dinoflagellates can also start to glow due to stress. The group of apicomplexans is named due the fact
that it contains fibrin, microtubules, and vacuoles contained in a apical complex structure. The
function of the structure is for access to contaminate a host cell. The group of ... Show more content

My Journey As A Service Coordinator
As a service coordinator, it is our job to provide support, coaching, referrals, and resources needed so
that the family and children involved in EI are able to achieve their outcomes and successfully
function once discharged out of Early Intervention. Although I am only beginning my journey as a
service coordinator, I have been assigned to work with over 40 families of different incomes, races,
ethnicities, and cultures. As a service coordinator I find the most intrinsic value when working for
families of oppressed populations. In my own personal experience as a member of a minority Hispanic
culture and f families of minority cultures are less likely to be educated on early childhood
development and the importance of intervening as soon as possible. For that reason, I try my best to
provide as much education as possible around the strategies I bring forth to assist the child, which
often includes articles, offering workshop sessions and bringing in additional therapists onto the team.
In addition to working with families of minority cultures, many children are often referred to early
intervention through the department of children youth and families. Families involved in dcyf are
often experiencing many difficult circumstances including no housing, mental illness, domestic abuse
and many others. These circumstances often leave families feeling vulnerable, helpless, and without
options. It is especially crucial and important to provide support and guidance to help empower

M Butterfly Sparknotes
M. Butterfly, a play written by a man named David Henry Hwang in 1988, is a story of a French
diplomat named Rene Gallimard and a Chinese Opera star named Song Liling and the deception that
occurs between them that destroys their relationship as well as Gallimard s life. The play takes off
when Gallimard meets Song Liling for the first time after her opera performance and grows extremely
fond of her. Song, on the other hand, sees him as easy prey for a twisted spy operation attempting to
seduce him into providing her info on the American troop movements in Vietnam and report back to
what she calls the ministry . We quickly learn that Song is not who she appears to be as we watch
Gallimard fall into her trap without hesitation because, in his eyes, she personifies his vision of the
ideal eastern woman. M. Butterfly is full of deception, culture, and domination and submission in
which Hwang is able to incorporate race and gender stereotypes that the west has adopted in its
dealings with the eastern culture.
Rene Gallimard replays his life from a prison cell constantly trying to understand and questioning how
he, a married diplomat working in the French embassy in China, fell in love with a communist spy
that he thought was a woman. In the opera, a Japanese geisha kills herself rather than live without her
American husband. Smitten by the performance, Gallimard is determined to have his own butterfly,
even if it means that he has to deceive himself (Preston 7). With that,

The Relationship between Strategic Planning and Effective...
Critically evaluate significance strategic planning relates effective leadership
Introduction
Leadership is the set of capabilities that a person has to influence the minds of people in a group of
persons, making this team to work with enthusiasm, but the reality is different, in achieving goals and
objectives. (Koys, 2001, pp26 33) It is also understood as the ability to take initiative, manage, hold,
promote, encourage, motivate and evaluate a group or team. (Goffee and Jones, 2000, pp117 28) In
business management leadership is the exercise of executive activity in a project effectively and
efficiently, whether personal or institutional management (within the administrative process of the
organization).

In the analysis of organizational development is necessary to have a good agent of change, which is a
person who deliberately acts on the environment to facilitate or promote the implementation of the

through direct or indirect to the implementation of change is a change agent.

Vegetarianism and Meat Eating in Food Culture Essay
Christopher McCandless, a young American who was found dead in summer of 1992 in wild land in
Alaska, wrote in his diary about his moral struggle regarding killing a moose for survival. According
to Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild, Chris had to abandon most of the meat since he lacked the knowledge
of how to dismantle and preserve it (166 168). Not only did he have a moral dilemma to kill a moose,
but also had a deep regret that a life he had taken was wasted because of his own fault. He then started
recognizing what he ate as a precious gift from the nature and called it Holy Food (Krakauer 168).
Exploring relationships between human beings and other animals arouses many difficult questions:

For human, to master agriculture and trade about 10,000 years ago widely expanded their food options
that enable modern human to become a vegetarian (Corliss). A vegetarian does not eat meat not only
because it tastes bad, but also it means something to him or her. The more one has faith in
vegetarianism, the more one restricts one s food choice in reality. Henry David Thoreau, who is
known as one of the first environmental writers of the 20th century in the U.S. and had lived in woods
alone, writes in his essay Walden that hunting and eating animals had bothered him because it seemed
as it degraded himself to a beast. For him, eating animals is not agreeable to [his] imagination
(Thoreau 169) as Thoreau strongly believed that to leave off eating animals is a part of the destiny of
the human race (Thoreau 170). While his belief and the reality he faced had conflicted each other, he
tried his best to find a way to live without relying much on meat. Even in a wild, what drove Thoreau
was anthropocentric thinking that human can control nature. This dilemma in food choice that
bothered Thoreau is what Michael Pollan calls the omnivore s dilemma. He puts it in his same titled
book in this way: When you can eat just about anything nature has to offer,

Assignment On Steeple And Swot Analysis
Part 3: Critically analyse task 6, 7 and 9 from the workbook
Task 6 and 7: STEEPLE and SWOT analysis
Strategic analysis tools or strategic frameworks are developed to direct organisational tactics and
match faculty abilities with market chances so that the faculty can achieve a strategic planning and a
unified set of goals including continuing analysis and evaluation (Tomlinson, 2011). Most institutions
can adopt one or more strategic frameworks to drive faculty development by providing critical
external and internal factors using STEEPLE and SWOT analysis, respectively to formulate the
strategy. However, errors and potential limitations of strategic frameworks can occur, if organisations
have inabilities of managerial and administrative such as lack of skill and experience to create an
effective strategy (Tomlinson, 2011).
According to the STEEPLE analysis framework, this framework is used to categorise and determine
the factors of macro environment and external influences that may affect the performance of
organisations and future activities in both the short and long term (Grant, 2008). STEEPLE is an
acronym for social, technological, economic, environmental, political, legal and ethical considerations
so a strategic project team needs to analyse and identify the potential impact of these composing
factors such as changes, trends and movements in order to maximise efficiency of the organisation
(Jones Murray, 2008). Moreover, it requires a deeper knowledge and critical

My American Dream Experience In My Life
This summer my American dream was fulfilled through the simple things. This summer I was able to
be blessed with a job. And I was an assistant for a home daycare and this was like a dream come true
honestly because i love working with and being around kids. And it also gave me something to do
during the day. I woke up every morning excited to get to work i would get to work every day on time.
I was just so ready to be in he presence of the wonderful kids, we also had a activity daily planned that
kept the children busy. The activities varied from going to the pool, seeing a movie, going to the park,
or even just going out to get some ice cream. Each day was filled with fun and laughter. Every day i
came into the daycare i grew closer with the kids, and during the weekend when the aycare was closed
i would be so anxious waiting around for Sunday evening so I could get ready for the next day. I also
had another American dream experience this summer, my family decided to have a big cookout so that
we could prepare for an family reunion next summer so everyone got together we cooked out on the
grill we did relay races, water balloons, and many more fun activities. This was an american dream

molten rocks are poured out in the form of magma from the mid ocean ridges. The rock is recycled
and re entered back into the earth in deep ocean trenches through convection current. The convection
current in the mantle drives plates around either against or away from each other. These collisions give

The cooled magma will, in time, sink back down into the Earth in the deep ocean trenches. The mantle
sinking down produces subduction zones or Benioff zones. The deepest part of the ocean resides in
these areas. There are three types of boundaries where plates meet: divergent boundaries the upwelling
of magma; convergent boundaries where the plates collide producing mountains, volcanoes, and
earthquakes; and transform boundaries lateral movement. Transform plates are caused by fracture
zones. When a rift opens from the upwelling of magma it causes a crack in the crust. As new magma
rises to the surface, the crack increases caused by the pressure, resulting in a horizontal faulting. The
fractured plate pieces travel in the same direction as the original plate was traveling away from the
ocean ridge. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;During the early 1900 s, a theory of a super continent was
developed by Alfred Wegener. He was ridiculed for his ideas that continental drift produced the
present positions of the continents from a single super continent called Pangea. This theory is widely
accepted today, however. There was abundant evidence for Wegener to believe in the existance of
Pangea. The shape of the continents could be pieced together like a giant jigsaw puzzle suggesting that
the continents were once glued together. The fossils found on the continents were not distinct to that
particular land, but were also found in lands that were separated by

The Issue Of The United States ( U.s. )
I. Explanation of Issues What is the main problem/question at issue in this article? The main problem
at issue in the article is that the United States (U.S.), as a country, are still largely employing the Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) to measure the welfare of the nation although the welfare of a nation can
scarcely be inferred from a measurement of national income. What are some of the subsidiary,
embebbed, or implicit aspects of the problem, and what are their relationship to each other? There are
also other aspects to the problem. These aspects include: (1) the Congress did not heed Simon Kuznets
s warning about how little GDP is connected to welfare of the nation; (2) Americans only came to
know more about limitations of the GDP in measuring their well being after Great Recession; and (3)
there is the emergence of a suggestion to implement alternative measures that more accurately reflect
the progress of human well being. These aspects are related to one another. The Congress s initial
ignorance led to the eventual late discovery about how the GDP has its limits. This in turn led to the
creation of or debate for other measures of welfare. This shows how the movement for alternative
measures to human well being is being triggered. This would then introduce the idea of including
more factors other than national income into the measurement of well being. For instance, according
to Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI), the well being of individuals is comprised of economic,

Description Of The Geographic Information System
The geographic information system is also used in finding clusters. This is done using multiple
algorithms to come with a group of unrelated regions that match the theme of interest. The cluster
contains points that meet the criterion required for the theme. For instance, members of a cluster could
be points where the distance between them is less than a particular threshold or points whose
population density is above a particular range. The process requires many levels of iteration before the
choice of the correct algorithm can be identified. Cluster identification has been used in different
organizations to group oil deposits depending on their size based on the population surrounding them.

Pipelines need to cover the shortest distance possible while at the same ensuring safety and minimum
interference with the environment. Determination of what is an area involves looking at the type of
vegetation and soils are in a zone.
Apart from the oil industry, the geographical information systems have also gained much use in other
critical application in Saudi Arabia. For instance, the system is used in both telecom and network
services. Its relevance as a planning and a decision making tool in the telecom industry cannot be
overemphasized. The so called GDi GISDATA enables the telecommunication companies to integrate
geographical data in their network planning, design and maintenance activities. The technology allows
the companies to enhance their location based services, develop engineering/ geographical
applications and customer relationship. Geographic information system also enables the authorities
and insurance companies do both accident and hot spot analysis. As such, the technology helps in the
reduction of accidents in the roads through the optimization of road networks and facilitating the
improvement of roads through proper traffic in management (Khormi, Kumar, Elzahrany, 2011). The
technology helps identify the locations and map them by their population and traffic details. In
addition, the geographic information system is convenient to use in rerouting design. The system has
also gained much prominence in urban planning is Saudi

Analysis of Three Interest Inventories Essay example
Introduction
As an educator and advisor, I am very interested in student interest inventories. Working in the
classroom, it can be very difficult to assess interest of students when choosing thematic units or
classroom project. As a college advisor, I am constantly searching for resources to help my students
choose a future career path. I completed research and found three popular interest inventories the
Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Clifton Strengths Finder. Each of
the three assessments analyze the same general theme of interest, personality and career choice. I have
analyzed each to determine the best interest inventory to use with my students.
Test A: 1994 Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The alpha reliabilities for the general occupational themes section were between .90 and .94. This
section also had a high test retest reliability of .84 to .92. The test retest reliability for the third section,
basic interest scales, was also high at between .80 to .94. Overall, the Strong Interest Inventory has
very high reliability which makes it a very good test.
Information on validity was not discussed in Donnay Borgen s analysis of the 1994 Strong Interest
Inventory. This does not help in determining the value or validity of this assessment, and must be
taken into account when determining an appropriate assessment to use.
As far as administrative concerns for the Strong Interest Inventory, the test is reasonably low
maintenance. The test could take some significant time to complete, as there are over 300 items for the
entire assessment. Further, there is a cost associated with completing the newest version of the
Inventory, published in 2004. For 100 participants or less, the cost is $9.25 each based on the product
catalog (CPP 2011). This is a bit high for an assessment, especially if an individual educator is paying
for the entire thing. The test is also at a considerably high level. Even the most basic version is written
for high school students, so the test is not appropriate for those under high school age. The test can be
administered to a group or to an individual.

The Opening Day Of The Trial
Almost all news local and country wide turned on to the pursuit. Many local programs were
rescheduled or canceled due to the chase. The pursuit ended with OJ returning to his home and giving
himself up to police on his driveway. After making the arrest, police discovered $8750 in cash, a false
beard and mustache, a loaded gun, and a passport in Cowling s vehicle (Linder Par. 7). This would
soon become one of the most famous cases in United States history: People of the State V. Orenthal
James Simpson. The opening day of the trial was set to January 24, 1995. On January 24, 1995 one of
the most famous trials in American History was about to begin. Orenthal James Simpson had been

The police attempted to pull him over in Lake View Terrace in the San Fernando Valley after he was
caught speeding at 110 mph (Par. 3). King led the police chase and was eventually pulled over. Once
King was pulled over, the police claimed he was resisting arrest and was severely beaten for about 15
minutes. This resulted in skull fractures, broken bones and teeth, and permanent brain damage ( South
Central History Par.3). The police did not know they were being recorded and this video was brought
to the media. At the time police brutality and racial profiling had been common in Los Angeles, but
this was the first time it was caught on tape. Another event that may have affected the outcome of
Simpson s case is the murder of Latasha Harlins. On March 16, 1991 Latasha Harlins, a teenage
African American girl, who at the time of her death was only 15 years old. Harlins entered a liquor
store to buy some orange juice, she grabbed the bottle and placed it in her bag and took out the money
to pay for the juice. She approached the counter with the money in hand and the bottle in her
backpack. The clerk at the counter, a Korean woman named Soon Ja Du who was also the liquor store
owners sister, saw Harlins place the bottle in her bag but did not see the money and accused the
woman of stealing, and attempted to take her backpack. Latasha hit Du in response to this, she
knocked Du to the ground and placed the

A Brief Note On Patients With Diabetic Lower Leg Ulcers...
Wounds related to Diabetic Neuropathy Patients with diabetic neuropathy generally ended up with
wounds, since they have reduced ability to feel pain and temperature. The problem that the guideline
addresses is patients with lower extremity neuropathic disease (LEND) with or at risk for wounds
(National Guideline Clearinghouse, 2012, para. 1). The purpose of the guideline is to support clinical
practice by providing consistent, research based information with the goal of improved cost effective
patient outcomes as well as to stimulate increased wound research (National Guideline Clearinghouse,
2012, para. 9). This paper will present a summary of the quantitative and the qualitative article, gaps

In the final analysis, the APC treatment was concluded that it is a safe medication for leg ulcers, and
provides evidences for larger clinical trial. Overall, the results show that APC treatment of lower leg
ulcers in patients with diabetes improves wound healing, with a subsequent improvement in patient
quality of life and no deleterious effect on patient safety (Kaley et al., 2013, p.5).
Qualitative Article Living with leg ulceration: a synthesis of qualitative research is a study that
analyzes twelve research studies about patients experience of living with a leg ulcer. The authors used
a method called Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument (QARI). This tool is designed to assist
researchers to manage, appraise, analyze and synthesize textual data and provides a structure for the
synthesis (Briggs Flemming, 2007, p.320). Additionally, they used different database to gather the
records and ended up with twelve studies that met the criteria. In summary, the topic that was most
mentioned, with the most volume of data, was physical effects like pain, odor, itch, leakage and
infection. Also, the least mentioned was psychological impact (Briggs Flemming, 2007). Even though
psychological impact was the least theme mentioned, that does not mean that it is not as important.
Reasons could be that physical effects overwhelmed the psychological ones.
The authors described the problem as the leg ulcer journey. It explains as two routes,

Ecology Club
High School Clubs and Activities
I initiated the creation of the Ecology Club and I was the president of this club. I have enjoyed
watching the Ecology grow in members and volunteers. This team helps garden the school, bring
environmental awareness to others. The club, additionally, has taken care of the landscaping of
Waukesha North, started a school recycling program, and created a raised bed butterfly and vegetable
garden. During the summer, the vegetables are donated to students who need food or the food pantry.

I wish to realize my full potential as an individual. My industry and motivation to improve can be
shown through my involvement between school and community activities. For instance, two
especially important experiences that I have been involved in are the Ecology Club and NuGenesis.
NuGenesis allowed me to gain more awareness and understanding, fostering the path for my passion
towards environmental conservation. I have used my experiences learned at NuGenesis in order to
initiate an ecology club at my school so that opportunities such as those at NuGenesis were more
accessible to students at North. I was honored to be the president and one of the initiators of this new
school organization. The Ecology Club recognizes the importance of the world and the concept that
every action has a consequence or a reward. One of my school s worst kept secrets was that we did not
recycle any materials at our school. This meant all the paper teachers and students using were not
being recycled. Furthermore, everyday materials such as numerous types of the drinks that are held in
plastic, aluminum, or glass bottles were not being disposed of properly. Therefore, this club is
specifically significant to me, and I hope others, because it has led the path to many great changes at
Waukesha North such as the creation of a of recycling program at the school. This organization has
created a sense of awareness around my school and within the community. I believe this allows
individuals to become more culturally aware of their surroundings and more understanding or

Forensic Science Essay example
Forensic Science has contributed to our world a great deal. People often misunderstand Forensic
Science and believe it is much more capable than it really is. As a matter of fact what you see on T.V.
is around 80% false or over exaggerated in some way. To Start of, Criminal Investigation is the largest
and most known form of Forensic Science. Some of the more known areas include; Fingerprinting,
Ballistics, DNA Identification, Fiber Samples, Computer Animation, Documentation analysis, etc. To
get this out of the way in the beginning, what you saw on last night s law and order is far from the
truth. Things they do in a matter of hours take months at a time, and most of the time aren t even
plausible concepts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Computer Animation is another valuable aspect in Forensics. Many People believe that they are
getting virtually framed , and that computer animations are inconclusive. This has been shown to be
wrong and is said to be much more accurate then an actual man reenactment. Computers are able to
precisely pinpoint every single aspect of the reenactment. Some argue that this may Create reality and
not illustrate it, but that s up to the court to decide. An example of how this works was used when a
snowplow struck an Iowa State basketball players car killing him. The plow driver was going 10 miles
over the speed limit. This video was recreated and showed a fatal blow the side of the deceased s car.
Although he was speeding this movie was recreated with the plow going the speed limit and he still
would have been fatally killed. The Iowa student didn t look when pulling out into the intersection if
you re wondering. Also, Forensic Scientists use computer animation to simulate the aging or
appearance change in a criminal or deceased individual. Though this is a great technique, things
cannot always be exactly 100% certain on the reconstruction. A lot of the deciding whether this if
valid, is up too the jury souly. This can even help provide the cause of death in a badly degraded
badly.
Documentation Examination is another very important aspect in Forensic Science.

The Moonstone
Following the concept of the novel as an epistolary, the prologue is an extract of the family papers
written in India by an unnamed cousin of Herncastle who depicts the events leading up to Herncastle s
looting of the treasury in Seringapatam. The prologue plays an important role in informing the readers
that before the Moonstone goes missing from Rachel s boudoir, it is foremost stolen from the Indians
by an Englishman. By beginning the novel with a striking... scene of brutality and greed committed by
an English soldier (Free 347), Collins sets the tone of his argument for the rest of the novel. The fact
that it is an Englishman who commits the crime is crucial. This is significant because Collins was
writing The Moonstone during the height of British sovereignty in India and he begins the novel with

Collins seems to side against imperialism as he marks Herncastle as the one responsible.
As mentioned earlier, the prologue is an excerpt from the family paper, which highlights the family s
desire and intentions to keep this story within the family and away from the public. The author of the
prologue states this intention as well: I beg it to be understood that what I write here about my
cousin... is for the information of the family only (Collins 15). Although, to digress, another irony is
how it is now included in the archive, that is, in fact, The Moonstone, (Free 340), thus exposed to the
public. The cousin goes to the extent of writing anonymously in order to avoid backlash for exposing
a fellow family member. Specifically, he writes, I cannot

Introverts are the Forgotten Sheep in the Herd in the...
Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic? is an article written in The New York Times newspaper. Susan Cane
wrote the article in June 2011.The article used a variety of techniques to illustrate her point such as
examples, sources, and new definitions. Cain writes about shyness, introversion, social anxiety
disorder, and extroversion. She compares introversion to extroversion. We need equally kinds of
people in society. In my experience, people display both characteristics at the same time. The article
shyness and evolutionary tactic is an interesting article because the current social judgment favors
extroverts but does a disservice to introverts who also make important contributions to sociality. There
is a tendency in American society today to have a bias against for anyone who is not gregarious,
upbeat, part of the crowd or in the spotlight There are people who on the outside are not sociable,
because these people are shy. However, there is a difference between shyness and introversion. Shy
people often avoid many things because they are nervous or they criticize themselves for speaking up.
Introverts, however, will not be nervous or criticize themselves. Both shyness and being introverted
are acceptable traits. It only becomes a problem when a person has a social anxiety disorder that
significantly interferes with a person s life. We want and need people to be the quiet thinkers who can
go off by themselves come up with an idea and bring it back to a

Tap Water Research Papers
What s really in our tap water?
If one thing s for sure, it s the fact that we take the safety of our water for granted but would you be
surprised to hear that accidents occur every single year? These accidents make our drinking water
unfit for human consumption yet in spite of this, it still pours from our kitchen taps in thousands and
thousands of households up and down the country. Concerns are raised continually about the presence
of pesticides, gender altering chemicals and numerous other toxins, of which excess amounts can
prove extremely dangerous if undiscovered. What s more, the majority of these tap water
contaminants are added with purpose. So the question lies, what s really in our tap water and is it as
safe as we really think?

Early studies highlighted the fact that fish were beginning to change sex due to the occurrence of
certain chemicals found in our water. The focus then naturally shifted to the effects of such chemicals
on human fertility after it s shown such a decline in recent years. While water companies claim to
operate under very strict guidelines and codes of practice to prevent cements, linings and plastic resins
running in to our water supply, there have been a number of incidents in which contamination
prevention has quite clearly failed. Pesticides have also come under scrutiny after it s been revealed
they work their way into the ground and river systems from agriculture and even households. It s these
pesticides that are then mimicking the actions of hormones in the body and have been suspected as a
major cause of hormone related cancers in industrially developed

  • 2. The Death Of Jean Pierre Grumbach Born in Paris in the middle of World War I, Jean Pierre Grumbach knew he wanted to be a filmmaker at a very early age. After receiving a Pathé Baby camera at the age of seven, he went on to create the equivalent of thirty short movies in various formats for friends and family by the time he turned twenty. His burgeoning career and dreams of being a film director were interrupted by Nazi Germany and the Second World War, but instead of evacuating to the United Kingdom he stayed in his homeland and fought, wisely changing his last name to Melville after his favorite author. Now a veteran of the Resistance in Nazi occupied France, Jean Pierre Melville later used his love of filmmaking and American gangster movies, accompanied by his disdain for the domineering French cinema establishment, to invent an entire genre of films and inspire an army of young directors to ignore conventional methods and embrace their own creations in their own unique ways. THE ACCIDENTAL ICON From the beginning, Melville caught the attention of audiences and critics with his hardboiled crime noir films both in terms of storytelling and filming techniques. So much so that writers coined a term for his films and those soon to follow by others directors as the French New Wave, and Melville was the Godfather. Part of Melville s motivation for this new style was his intense dissatisfaction with the imperious demands of the Director s Guild as he personally defined the French New Wave as an ... During this time there have been improvements to the technology and the understanding of how to use this form of patient pain control; however, there continues to be concern related to the safety and efficacy of PCA. As this analysis proceeds it will briefly explain what PCA is and how it is used, then delve into the benefits and the safety issues surrounding PCA use as it pertains to the patient and the nurse. Some of the benefits of PCA include improved pain management, improved use of nursing resources, increased patient satisfaction, and reduced pulmonary issues (Hicks, Sikirica, Nelson, Schein Cousins, 2008). Later in this paper we will discuss the safety issues related to the activation of a PCA infusion pump by someone other than the patient, a practice called PCA by proxy. Although there appears to be significant benefits to the use of PCA infusion pumps, there are significant safety issues arising from the use of PCA infusion pumps that can cause severe harm and potentially even death. Some of these safety issues include infusion pump programming errors, basal infusion of opioids, and PCA by proxy. A leading type of error identified in doing harm to PCA patients is the improper dosage or quantity of analgesic medication (Hicks et al, 2008). This sort of error took place on a patient returning to a hospital for postoperative pain management following a recent surgical procedure. The nurse was given an order to manage the patient s pain with hydromorphone administered via PCA infusion pump. In programming the pump the nurse inadvertently changed the concentration of the medication from 1mg/ml to 0.3mg/ml, thus leading to errors in both the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her families past reveal her relationship with the piano. The piano meant a lot of things to a lot of different people over the years. The piano is a complex and multilayers symbol; its meanings are both personal and political. For example, Berniece was affected by the piano positively and negatively. She had a sentimental connection with it and never wanted to get rid of it. But the piano had a lot of history behind it and it also carries a lot of meaning to it. Berniece stopped playing the piano for a while because of all the spirits inside of it and how they started to haunt other people. Berniece saw Boy Willie getting attacked by Sutter s ghost and that made her realize she needs to let go of the past and play the piano again. But what was ironic is that she tried her best to forget the family history that came with the piano, she can never let go of her families past no matter what she does. This reveals that people should come to good terms with their past and learn to overcome it. The piano affected her positively because Berniece liked playing the piano. She would play it all the time for Mama Ola and her daughter learned how to play it as well. It affected her negatively because it had a gruesome past. Bernieces family would die over that piano. For example, Boy Charles died in the boxcars in a fire after the piano was found missing. After this tragedy, the piano ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. M Butterfly Sparknotes M. Butterfly, a play written by a man named David Henry Hwang in 1988, is a story of a French diplomat named Rene Gallimard and a Chinese Opera star named Song Liling and the deception that occurs between them that destroys their relationship as well as Gallimard s life. The play takes off when Gallimard meets Song Liling for the first time after her opera performance and grows extremely fond of her. Song, on the other hand, sees him as easy prey for a twisted spy operation attempting to seduce him into providing her info on the American troop movements in Vietnam and report back to what she calls the ministry . We quickly learn that Song is not who she appears to be as we watch Gallimard fall into her trap without hesitation because, in his eyes, she personifies his vision of the ideal eastern woman. M. Butterfly is full of deception, culture, and domination and submission in which Hwang is able to incorporate race and gender stereotypes that the west has adopted in its dealings with the eastern culture. Rene Gallimard replays his life from a prison cell constantly trying to understand and questioning how he, a married diplomat working in the French embassy in China, fell in love with a communist spy that he thought was a woman. In the opera, a Japanese geisha kills herself rather than live without her American husband. Smitten by the performance, Gallimard is determined to have his own butterfly, even if it means that he has to deceive himself (Preston 7). With that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critically evaluate significance strategic planning relates effective leadership Introduction Leadership is the set of capabilities that a person has to influence the minds of people in a group of persons, making this team to work with enthusiasm, but the reality is different, in achieving goals and objectives. (Koys, 2001, pp26 33) It is also understood as the ability to take initiative, manage, hold, promote, encourage, motivate and evaluate a group or team. (Goffee and Jones, 2000, pp117 28) In business management leadership is the exercise of executive activity in a project effectively and efficiently, whether personal or institutional management (within the administrative process of the organization). For human, to master agriculture and trade about 10,000 years ago widely expanded their food options that enable modern human to become a vegetarian (Corliss). A vegetarian does not eat meat not only because it tastes bad, but also it means something to him or her. The more one has faith in vegetarianism, the more one restricts one s food choice in reality. Henry David Thoreau, who is known as one of the first environmental writers of the 20th century in the U.S. and had lived in woods alone, writes in his essay Walden that hunting and eating animals had bothered him because it seemed as it degraded himself to a beast. For him, eating animals is not agreeable to [his] imagination (Thoreau 169) as Thoreau strongly believed that to leave off eating animals is a part of the destiny of the human race (Thoreau 170). While his belief and the reality he faced had conflicted each other, he tried his best to find a way to live without relying much on meat. Even in a wild, what drove Thoreau was anthropocentric thinking that human can control nature. This dilemma in food choice that bothered Thoreau is what Michael Pollan calls the omnivore s dilemma. Assignment On Steeple And Swot Analysis Part 3: Critically analyse task 6, 7 and 9 from the workbook Task 6 and 7: STEEPLE and SWOT analysis Strategic analysis tools or strategic frameworks are developed to direct organisational tactics and match faculty abilities with market chances so that the faculty can achieve a strategic planning and a unified set of goals including continuing analysis and evaluation (Tomlinson, 2011). Most institutions can adopt one or more strategic frameworks to drive faculty development by providing critical external and internal factors using STEEPLE and SWOT analysis, respectively to formulate the strategy. However, errors and potential limitations of strategic frameworks can occur, if organisations have inabilities of managerial and administrative such as lack of skill and experience to create an effective strategy (Tomlinson, 2011). According to the STEEPLE analysis framework, this framework is used to categorise and determine the factors of macro environment and external influences that may affect the performance of organisations and future activities in both the short and long term (Grant, 2008). Plate tectonics studies these restless effects to give us a better understanding of the Earth and its past. New molten rocks are poured out in the form of magma from the mid ocean ridges. The rock is recycled and re entered back into the earth in deep ocean trenches through convection current. The convection current in the mantle drives plates around either against or away from each other. These collisions give rise to earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains, and continental drift. The crashing and spreading of the plates forms the landscape of the Earth as we see it today. The positions of the land masses today is a result of continental drift. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cooled magma will, in time, sink back down into the Earth in the deep ocean trenches. The mantle sinking down produces subduction zones or Benioff zones. The deepest part of the ocean resides in these areas. There are three types of boundaries where plates meet: divergent boundaries the upwelling of magma; convergent boundaries where the plates collide producing mountains, volcanoes, and earthquakes; and transform boundaries lateral movement. Transform plates are caused by fracture zones. When a rift opens from the upwelling of magma it causes a crack in the crust. As new magma rises to the surface, the crack increases caused by the pressure, resulting in a horizontal faulting. The fractured plate pieces travel in the same direction as the original plate was traveling away from the ocean ridge. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;During the early 1900 s, a theory of a super continent was developed by Alfred Wegener. He was ridiculed for his ideas that continental drift produced the present positions of the continents from a single super continent called Pangea. This theory is widely accepted today, however. • 23. The Issue Of The United States ( U.s. ) I. Explanation of Issues What is the main problem/question at issue in this article? The main problem at issue in the article is that the United States (U.S.), as a country, are still largely employing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to measure the welfare of the nation although the welfare of a nation can scarcely be inferred from a measurement of national income. What are some of the subsidiary, embebbed, or implicit aspects of the problem, and what are their relationship to each other? There are also other aspects to the problem. These aspects include: (1) the Congress did not heed Simon Kuznets s warning about how little GDP is connected to welfare of the nation; (2) Americans only came to know more about limitations of the GDP in measuring their well being after Great Recession; and (3) there is the emergence of a suggestion to implement alternative measures that more accurately reflect the progress of human well being. These aspects are related to one another. The Congress s initial ignorance led to the eventual late discovery about how the GDP has its limits. This in turn led to the creation of or debate for other measures of welfare. This shows how the movement for alternative measures to human well being is being triggered. This would then introduce the idea of including more factors other than national income into the measurement of well being. For instance, according to Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI), the well being of individuals is comprised of economic, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Description Of The Geographic Information System The geographic information system is also used in finding clusters. This is done using multiple algorithms to come with a group of unrelated regions that match the theme of interest. The cluster contains points that meet the criterion required for the theme. For instance, members of a cluster could be points where the distance between them is less than a particular threshold or points whose population density is above a particular range. The process requires many levels of iteration before the choice of the correct algorithm can be identified. Cluster identification has been used in different organizations to group oil deposits depending on their size based on the population surrounding them. Pipelines need to cover the shortest distance possible while at the same ensuring safety and minimum interference with the environment. Determination of what is an area involves looking at the type of vegetation and soils are in a zone. Apart from the oil industry, the geographical information systems have also gained much use in other critical application in Saudi Arabia. For instance, the system is used in both telecom and network services. Its relevance as a planning and a decision making tool in the telecom industry cannot be overemphasized. The so called GDi GISDATA enables the telecommunication companies to integrate geographical data in their network planning, design and maintenance activities. The technology allows the companies to enhance their location based services, develop engineering/ geographical applications and customer relationship. Geographic information system also enables the authorities and insurance companies do both accident and hot spot analysis. As such, the technology helps in the reduction of accidents in the roads through the optimization of road networks and facilitating the improvement of roads through proper traffic in management (Khormi, Kumar, Elzahrany, 2011). The technology helps identify the locations and map them by their population and traffic details. In addition, the geographic information system is convenient to use in rerouting design. • 25. Analysis of Three Interest Inventories Essay example Introduction As an educator and advisor, I am very interested in student interest inventories. Working in the classroom, it can be very difficult to assess interest of students when choosing thematic units or classroom project. As a college advisor, I am constantly searching for resources to help my students choose a future career path. I completed research and found three popular interest inventories the Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Clifton Strengths Finder. Each of the three assessments analyze the same general theme of interest, personality and career choice. I have analyzed each to determine the best interest inventory to use with my students. Test A: 1994 Strong Interest Inventory The Strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alpha reliabilities for the general occupational themes section were between .90 and .94. This section also had a high test retest reliability of .84 to .92. The test retest reliability for the third section, basic interest scales, was also high at between .80 to .94. Overall, the Strong Interest Inventory has very high reliability which makes it a very good test. Information on validity was not discussed in Donnay Borgen s analysis of the 1994 Strong Interest Inventory. This does not help in determining the value or validity of this assessment, and must be taken into account when determining an appropriate assessment to use. As far as administrative concerns for the Strong Interest Inventory, the test is reasonably low maintenance. The test could take some significant time to complete, as there are over 300 items for the entire assessment. Further, there is a cost associated with completing the newest version of the Inventory, published in 2004. For 100 participants or less, the cost is $9.25 each based on the product catalog (CPP 2011). This is a bit high for an assessment, especially if an individual educator is paying for the entire thing. The test is also at a considerably high level. Even the most basic version is written for high school students, so the test is not appropriate for those under high school age. The test can be administered to a group or to an individual. Test ... On March 16, 1991 Latasha Harlins, a teenage African American girl, who at the time of her death was only 15 years old. Harlins entered a liquor store to buy some orange juice, she grabbed the bottle and placed it in her bag and took out the money to pay for the juice. Susan Cane wrote the article in June 2011.The article used a variety of techniques to illustrate her point such as examples, sources, and new definitions. Cain writes about shyness, introversion, social anxiety disorder, and extroversion. She compares introversion to extroversion. We need equally kinds of people in society. In my experience, people display both characteristics at the same time. The article shyness and evolutionary tactic is an interesting article because the current social judgment favors extroverts but does a disservice to introverts who also make important contributions to sociality. There is a tendency in American society today to have a bias against for anyone who is not gregarious, upbeat, part of the crowd or in the spotlight There are people who on the outside are not sociable, because these people are shy. However, there is a difference between shyness and introversion. Shy people often avoid many things because they are nervous or they criticize themselves for speaking up. Introverts, however, will not be nervous or criticize themselves. Both shyness and being introverted are acceptable traits. It only becomes a problem when a person has a social anxiety disorder that significantly interferes with a person s life.
