Essay The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet
The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet
If Hamlet from himself be ta en away,
And when he s not himself does wrong Laertes,
Then Hamlet does it not, Hamlet denies it.
Who does it then? His madness. If t be so,
Hamlet is of the faction that is wrong d;
His madness is poor Hamlet s enemy.
(V.ii.230 235)
Hamlet s self description in his apology to Laertes, delivered in the appropriately distanced and
divided third person, explicitly fingers the greatest antagonist of the playâ€čconsciousness. The
obligatory cultural baggage that comes along with Hamlet heeds little attention to the incestuous
Claudius while focusing entirely on the gloomy Dane s legendary melancholia and his resulting
revenge delays. As Laurence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chief definition of thought revolves around the basic concept of the mental process: The action or
process of thinking; mental action or activity in general, esp. that of the intellect; exercise of the
mental faculty; formation and arrangement of ideas in the mind (OED, 1a). A further subset of
definitions can be catalogued into a Manichean vision of positives and negatives and which equally
apply to Hamlet s central consideration of consciousness as a blessing or a curse. There is a stress on
thought s potentiality which fits with Hamlet s obsession with the infinitude of man: Conception,
imagination, fancy (OED, 4c). But following this comes the negative view of thought as quasi action,
a direct link to Hamlet s stall tactics: The entertaining of some project in the mind; the idea or notion
of doing something, as contemplated or entertained in the mind; hence, intention, purpose, design; esp.
an imperfect or half formed intention; with negative expressed or implied = not the least intention or
notion of doing something (OED, 4d). Similarly, the past neutral sense of Remembrance, ƒmind
(OED, 5e) is countered by the negative anticipatory connotation of: Anxiety or distress of mind;
solicitude; grief, sorrow, trouble, care, vexation (OED, 5a). This current of duality is important to keep
in mind as we explore its

Anthem Individuality Essay
Individuality in Anthem
Ceaseless collectivism is not something that can be forced upon a community. Ayn Rand s novel
Anthem conveys this through the writings of Equality 7 2125, a man willing to stand up to the
collectivism of the society he is confined to. Anthem not only shows how dull and lifeless a society
can be with a lack of individuality in its people, but also reveals how one person can significantly
impact a community. This novel displays the importance of individualism through Equality s thoughts
and actions. This includes when he reinvents electricity in the tunnel, falls in love with Liberty, and
when he completely separates himself from society. Equality s individualism is prominent when he
purposely isolates himself in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Equality continues to make his individualism known by preferring a woman, Liberty 3
5000, above all. While sweeping the streets, Equality takes notice of a woman working in the fields.
He is instantly intrigued by her and thinks of her over all others. Equality s attitude is significantly
changed by his interactions with Liberty. We do not know why we think of them. We do not know
why, when we think of them, we feel of a sudden that earth is good and that it is not a burden to live
(Rand 41). Individualism is shown when Equality chooses to favor Liberty. Equality looked at her,
even though there were other women in the field that day. He chooses Liberty above all the woman.
Equallity shows a preference in only her, which shows individuality. To add, Equality is becoming
more unruly and disobiedient by continuing to break rules. The crimes he comits involve talking to
woman of other Trades, looking upon woman, and the Transgression of Preference, which is to prefer
someone or something above others. Equality s love for Liberty continues to isolate and detach him
from his brothers. His love for Liberty motivates him to banish himself from his society and cut off all
his ties to it. Equality s individuality grows further when he purposely separates himself from his
society and obliterates the last of his identity that associates himself with the City. While showing his
light to the Council of Scholars, they tell

Dostoyevsky s Crime And Punishment
Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment relies heavily on Raskolnikov s motivation for committing the
crime. To the casual reader, the motives are straightforward he wants to find out if he, like Napoleon,
is an extraordinary man; wants to rid society of the pawnbroker, the louse; wants simply to lift himself
from debt with the money he stole. But these explanations do not strike the heart of the matter: there is
a deeper cause. The ultimate reason behind Raskolnikov s violent murder of the pawnbroker stems
from a combination of an oppressive environment of poverty and Raskolnikov s characteristic
arrogance. Good, straightforward thesis
It is almost a given that Raskolnikov was poor, however the extent of this is easily overlooked. From

Walking down the street adjacent to his apartment at the outset of the novel, Raskolnikov s
psychology is swiftly illuminated,
The insufferable stench from the pot houses, which are particularly numerous in that part of the town,
and the drunken men whom he met continually, although it was a working day, completed the
revolting misery of the picture. An expression of the profoundest disgust gleamed for a moment in the
young man s refined face. He was, by the way, exceptionally handsome, above the average in height,
slim, well built, with beautiful dark eyes and dark brown hair. ... he walked along not observing what
was about him and not caring to observe it. (3).
Here, Raskolnikov is disgusted by the surroundings of his home and community he certainly sees
himself above such squalor. Further elevating his opinion of himself are his exceptional good looks,
which surely cause him to develop a sense of superiority over time. Raskolnikov s behavior of
disregarding intentionally his surroundings is also indicative of deep seated egotism and arrogance,
acting as though he is the only object worthy of his own attention. A final factor contributing to
Raskolnikov s superiority complex is his intelligence. In a letter he receives from his mother, it
becomes clear that Raskolnikov is both highly intelligent and well educated, as she states, What a
grief it was to me when I heard that you had given up the university some months ago,

Descriptive Essay About My Childhood
My childhood was never something that seemed to be a typical boy s childhood. I never watched
sports as kid since the T.V. channel was dictated by my parents so all we watched were shows like
Law Order, CSI, and Fear Factor. I never learned about cars whatsoever and talking about girls always
perplexed me. I never understood how someone could base their feelings about someone based off
physical appearances, but that could just be because I was very pessimistic and was always very
distant of people in general. Video games are something that I loved to play and was something I
thought would be a normal guy thing. While I had played video games, they mainly consisted of

They all tried to their best to include me in the conversation by asking my opinion on their discussion.
While the discussion was trained on football one of the upperclassman asked, So Nick, who s your
favorite team? When I replied that I had no clue they tried a different question. Oh, well, which Halo
games have you played? Have you played Halo 3? This question really threw me because it ran on the
assumption that I had played games from the Halo franchise. I told them that I had never heard of
Halo and the amount of shock that could be seen in their face was astounding. It felt like I was an
anomaly in society, that I was raised incorrectly.
Despite me being a guy I had no knowledge on any of the guy stuff that they were talking about. I had
never realized that they gender stereotypes in something as basic as conversational topics and things
that they should be well versed in. It s something that seems absurd to think that society thinks that
people are born with some kind of innate knowledge about the frivolous things of our society based
off their gender.
This type of expectation is often seen throughout society. Gender roles are normally seen as physical
traits, per se. Most stereotypes are thought to pertain to what a person is expected to do or look like,
such as a woman being a housewife or a man looking like a brawny lumberjack. While these are
things that can easily be

The Integration of Central High School
Little Rock, Arkansas
The desegregation of public facilities began with the decision of Brown vs Board of Education in
1954, where the Supreme Court of the United States deemed segregation unlawful and
unconstitutional. The country was told that desegregation was to take place with all deliberate speed .
This angered the white community. Violent retaliation was the means used to prevent the integration
of blacks into various public facilities. In fact, the Autherine Lucy case demonstrated to the entire
country that violent mobs could halt integration demanded by a federal court order. However, three
years later, the Little Rock Crisis would affirm that if provoked by mobs, the executive ... Show more

Gov. Faubus was up for reelection. No man had yet been elected for a 3rd term as governor of
Arkansas. Apparently someone told the man that if he firmly supported preventing the desegregation
of the school he would get his third term. His plan worked. The night before the Little Rock Nine were
to go to Central High School, Gov. Faubus appeared on television and stated that he would have the
Arkansas National Guard in front of the school to prevent the black children s entry. He claimed that it
was for the protection of the children . Faubus had no proof yet he claimed that a violent resistance
had been planned and this was for the good of the blacks. Faubus created a self fulfilling prophecy and
sure enough, a violent mob stood outside the school the following day. Daisy Bates, the president of
the NAACP at the time, had called all of the children to her house the morning they were to attend
Central High School. Only eight were in attendance. Elizabeth Eckford did not have a phone and
missed the call. The girl was unaware of the plans to drive to Fourteenth Street together. While the
eight, along with Daisy Bates tried to gain access on Fourteenth Street, Elizabeth Eckford faced a mob
of some 200 white people shouting and threatening her alone on Sixteenth Street. The National Guard
prevented entry to the school on both sides. Elizabeth escaped the crowd onto a bus with the
assistance of a white lady named Grace Lorch. Faubus met with President Eisenhower on

Winston Churchill Leadership
Oftentimes, the best leaders are those who are willing to step up and face the daunting tasks that no
one else will. As Prime Minister of England during World War II, Winston Churchill s leadership left a
permanent mark upon history. Many believe that without him, the Allies would have lost the war. In
the words of John C. Maxwell, Leaders become great not because of their power, but because of their
ability to empower others. Churchill prided himself in having courage in all things and possessed the
unique ability to provide others with courage also. He led the British empire through battle after battle
tirelessly, saying, Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential.
To him, there was no use saying we are doing our best. You have got to succeed in doing what is
necessary. Although it was almost certain that Britain would lose World War II, Churchill provided the
willpower needed to stand against Germany and engendered a motivated and hardworking
government, as well as an inspired nation.
Winston Churchill s headstrong resiliency in the face of danger defined his career as a war leader.
Former Prime Minister David Cameron states, He was an incredible leader for our country, and indeed
for the whole free world, at an impossibly difficult time. (1). Five months before his inauguration,
Churchill gave his speech House of Many Mansions wherein he urged the then Prime Minister Neville

Case: ICICI Bank Brand Building in Retail Banking
Situational Analysis
This case highlights the journey of ICICI Bank towards its establishment as a formidable brand in the
retail banking sector. Before ICICI, the banking sector was dominated by several state run
organizations. However, ICICI managed to identify its customer segments very aptly and design an
offering for each of these segments in order to maximize the value it offered to these customer
segments. Aimed at attracting young consumers to its retail banking operations through schemes such
as Chintamani and Jeete Raho campaign for its insurance business, ICICI was able to successfully
create a brand name for itself amongst its target customers. It also launched several well known ...

risky proposition, and such elements needed to be removed from the brand offering of ICICI Bank.

entity or a division level brand entity for the different functional departments of the ICICI bank. The
corporate level branding w=earlier adopted was to create a perception of a complete banking solutions

Field Reflection Essay
Before coming to the field exercise I was so busy with other things that I honestly didn t think much
about it. At some of my old churches I was in sort of leadership so we would go to the other people
houses in the church and would pray for each other. I thought that this experience would be similar to
that. In those times we would eat and then fellowship and while everyone was there we would pray for
the people who needed or asked for prayer. I expected that this experience would be similar to that one
in which we would pray for people and then see what was happening. I did not expect much talking
since I knew a lot of people from my very introverted class was going to be there. Me personally was
having such a busy week that I knew as soon as I felt a strong presences from the Lord it was going to
be a good time. The only thing I felt nervous about going was that I had never gotten something from
the Lord that I could really tell was from the Lord. It mostly feels like what I think or goes along with
something that I had experienced so I am never really sure if I should say anything or not. During the
couple of hours that we were at the professor s house it was a very laid back setting and we all just sat
around and talked and prayed. To start everything off the professor asked if anyone needed prayer and
then things just went from there. During the experience there was no super spiritual ritual or thing we
had to do we just had to show up be ourselves and listen to what

Research Paper On Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath s importance to American history results from the literary distinction of her writing style,
as well as her works that show the difficulty of women in the mid twentieth century. Plath s
significance comes from her writing styles in which she opened the doors to exploration of feminism
to a masculine led society. Plath s life can be explored through her poems and her stories. By aligning
Sylvia Plath s works to the events throughout her lifetime, we can have a better understanding of Plath
s importance. Daddy is probably one of Sylvia Plath s best known poems. It has received many
different critiques. These critiques include praise from feminist because of its rage towards male
dominance and its attention to and use of Holocaust imagery. This poem has been reviewed by
hundreds of scholars and the poem has ultimately been deemed as one of the best examples of a

Burmese Pythons And Their Effect On Native Species
BURMESE PYTHONS

Dr. Marguerite Koch
Principles of Ecology
Introduction
Burmese Pythons and their effect on native species in the Everglades Burmese Pythons is a non native
pest in the United States of America, which originated from South Asia. The species is becoming an
established breeding population in South Florida and its environs. The python was illegally freed in
the Everglades National park where the marshy grasses and water provide a conducive environment
for its survival. Burmese python was recognized as a reproducing population around the year 2000.
The python has been classified as an invasive species in Florida. The species has disrupted the
ecosystem by preying on native species and out competing them for food. The python is a successful
invasive species because their large size makes it have fewer predators (alligators and humans)
(Brown, 2006). Efforts have been put in place to manage the increase of the Burmese pythons due to
the devastating effects it has caused in the ecosystem. Python removal and control is being done
through dogs and human search. Dog search has recorded much greater success than human beings
because humans cannot access some areas due to the thick vegetation. The origin of Burmese python
can be attributed to the regions of South East Asia including Burma,Thailand, China, and the regions
of Archipelago. There is continued decrease of the python in its native land, which has placed

Marge Piercy Barbie Doll Essay
Life is Beauty and Beauty is Death Barbie dolls, beautiful inventions used in children s play for
imaginative growth. Something so small and delicate aides in the challenge in many of today s
women, trying to become like the plastic doll: slender, pretty, and perfect as if made by a machine.
Marge Piercy illustrates in her poem Barbie Doll that some women are willing to sacrifice everything
to become pretty and flawless. Throughout the poem Marge Piercy incorporates the literature devices
tone, theme, topic, to inform the reader the implications of beauty. The tone of Barbie Doll is filled
with sarcasm. The tone of sarcasm is improved by there being an omnipresent speaker. Therefore, the
speaker is someone watching what has happened rather than the girl speaking who is going through
the events. This helps develop the sarcasm because the speaker s sentence structure is choppy and the
speaker makes the end feel falsely cheerful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Experience In College Life
As a student, I can tell why some of the frustrations occur when the conscientious seldom does not pay
off adequate. No wonder thirty percent of first year college students drop out. Every second of college
life feels intimated since the future of student mostly rely on how they manipulate the time. I wonder
if I can keep myself into college, or will I be counted as one in those thirty percent of first year college
students. I don t want to be that statistic; I won t be. The present that I hold highlights my past, where
life granted me one last chance to change my destiny.
When I was eleven years old, my family and I lived in Nepal as refugees. Also, our house, as well as
others, was constructed from bamboo and thatch. It wasn t robust enough to sustain heavy wind, fire,
or rain. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, also known as UNHCR, helped by
contributing rations such as rice, beans, oil, salt, and sugar. Every month, the provision was allocated
equally among the people in the camp warehouse. One day, on the way back from school, I noticed
my grandmother waving her hand at me from far away. I ran straight to her leaving friends behind to
play soccer. Eventually, I sat beside her as she continued her conversation with a neighbor aunt.
I heard my grandmother consider that our ancestors had a better life, and we weren t meant to be in a

Grave Of The Fireflies Symbolism
Namiko Abe, a Japanese teacher, explains that the word firefly is a metaphor for passionate love in
poetry and their eerie lights are also thought to be the altered form of the souls of soldiers who have
died in the war. The title of the movie, Grave of the Fireflies, translates to the grave of the soldier s
souls. Not only is firefly a metaphor for the soldiers souls, it s short lifespan of 2 months also
symbolizes the life of the children that died very young due to the bombings or having no food. This
includes Setsuko and Seita who both died from malnourishment. They were forgotten by their country

you work for the country s defense too young lady. (Takahata,0:30:00) This gave me a fair idea of the
civilians state of mind. American women and children during the war found a purpose to help the US
become more powerful by working in the homeland. The fact even a girl in her late teen years is
working, whether she s actually working in the military or she s indirectly contributing to the Empire s
military, her mother sees her daughter s work with pride and honor. The benefits of having a husband
or a father in the army are also frequently noted. All of these things are so hard to come by nowadays,
but soldiers families get the best. (Takahata,0:24:25) In this scene, Seita brings everything he has left
from his home and give the food to his aunt. This scene reveals how much honor and pride it brings to
a family just by having a family member in the navy. You need nourishment. You can t be a soldier if
you don t grow up healthy. (Takahata,0:36:35). This is a scene that connects to the other two
references. Here, the Aunt shows her expectations of Seita to become another honorable soldier like
his father. In this scene, The aunt convinces Seita to trade her mother s kimonos(traditional Japanese
dress) for white rice, a privileged food during the war. It seems that only Setsuko understood the
sentimental value of the dresses when she tried stopping Seita from trading them. The last objects with
sentimental value that he was able to hold on to until the end was his father s cap and picture. Looking
back when Mr. Minkus asked what 5 things would I bring a picture of my family just made that list. I
thought having a phone on that list was not a bad idea at all. I would argue that a phone and other
items of high value to society we re actually the best things to be on that list. Just like how Seita

Character Analysis Of Kenneth Grahame s The Wind In The...
The novel The Wind in the Willows portrayed numerous aspects of the author Kenneth Grahame s life
within its contents. Some of these aspects included social, psychological, and other components of the
author s life. Within his book parts of his life included were the people from his life. These people
were Kenneth Grahame s father, his son Alastair, and his friend Sir Arthur Quiller Couch. One of the
people from his life who was transformed into a memorable character was his son Alastair. The Wind
in the Willows was a novel based on bedtime stories about the character named Toad, the stories of
which were told to Alastair in effort to soothe him to sleep. When Kenneth took the stories and
adapted them into a novel, he used qualities from his son and used them in the character Mole. Mole
could easily be described as a mild mannered, as well as home loving animal. He was the first
character to be introduced in the story. Within the first chapter of the novel Mole ventured outside of
his underground home. Soon after coming outside Mole realized the fast moving pace of life around
the riverbank. Although cautious at first, Mole soon adapted with help from his new found friends.
Since birth Alastair had complications that made life increasingly more difficult as he grew up. One of
the largest complications that was faced by Alastair was that he was blinded in one eye since birth.
While also faced with other disabilities, Alastair s problem was the blindness he retained. Similar to
how Mole adapted to his surroundings by the riverbank, Alastair adapted to life with disabilities while
keeping a mild mannered attitude. In addition to the adaptation, Alastair accepted help from many
people like his father and mother like Mole accepted help from his friends. Mole went through
complications as well throughout the chapters within the novel. One of these complications is how
when Mole became impatient to meet Badger and went off on his own to find him, leading to him
becoming lost in the woods until his friend Rat finds him. A complication similar to what Mole went
through was how Alastair got ejected from many different schools until finally a school called Christ
Church accepted him. This memorable character of Mole can

Why Hamlet Needs To Die
Hamlet s view of death morphs through the course of the play as he is faced with various problems
and troubles that force him to deal with life differently. This holds particular significance for a modern
audience who, unlike the predominately Christian audiences of Shakespeare s time, contains an
assortment of perspectives on the subject. For the majority of the play, Hamlet yearns for death, but
there are different tones to his yearning as he confronts death in different circumstances; from his
encounter with his father s ghost to the discovery of his beloved Ophelia dead in the ground, Hamlet
feels an irrepressible urge to end his life. There are obstacles that get in his way, both internal and
external, and Shakespeare s play is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By behaving provocatively (crazy) and exposing his uncle s perfidy, Hamlet hopes to drive his uncle
murderous once again, so that he can kill him and die a hero. It is ironic that Hamlet uses retribution
against his father s death as the means to reach his own death. His attitude toward the concept of death
at this point is split; he behaves as though his father s death is a bad thing, yet he seems dead set
(pardon the pun) on bringing on his own death through his bizarre and provocative antics.
Hamlet s antics climax with the visiting players putting on a performance of The Murder of Gonzago,
which Hamlet designs in order to catch the conscience of the king (2.2.610). Unfortunately, it
succeeds too well, and Hamlet finds his uncle alone and penitent, and thus unfit to send to Hell. This
seems a peculiar deviation from the Hamlet earlier in the play who abides by the Christian code
against suicide; in desiring not only his uncle s death, but his damnation as well, Hamlet takes on a
decidedly evil and soulless countenance. One might argue that it is his father s ghost who imbues this
diabolical edge to Hamlet, that Hamlet s face to face experience with the grave has tainted his spirit
(Gottschalk 156). Or, one might also reason that Hamlet s continual fixation on death, suicide, the

The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance
Introduction
Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before
competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally. Some of
these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think they can attain an
edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham Athletics, I was given
many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My interactions with these
athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed before competitions, triggered
my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic performance. Does prayer before
competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this paper I will examine the effects of
religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well as how it affects an athlete s overall
performance.
Literature Review
There has been scarce documentation covering the effects of religion on athletic performance. Up until
two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes religious beliefs
had no effect on their overall performance. We have all heard questions asking if it s necessary for a
player to thank God after hitting a homerun, or taking a knee before the game and praying. These
articles were mostly based on the opinion of the author, and not backed by empirical data. More recent
research on this topic, includes a

Inadequate Same Sex Marriage Laws in the United States
The institution of marriage has been around for many years. Times have changed and society has
grown as a whole. The United States has laws that prohibit same sex marriages or do not grant them
the same privileges as traditional marriages. You will see how behind this great nation has remained.
As many countries around the world explore less traditional ways of life, the United States has been
left in the dust.
In the United States of America laws require that we be treated as equals. Unfortunately, this does not
apply to the laws of same sex marriages. How can a country that praises itself on freedom, equal
rights, and the pursuits of happiness not allow someone to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Not everyone in America follows the catholic religion. This shows that we need to make changes. We
have the freedom to practice our own religion, but whey should that govern us?
In Canada the majority of Canadian adults favor gay and lesbian marriages. In British Columbia
where the polygamous marriages of members of a small Mormon splinter group are known to the
government and allowed to exist. Even though, this is a small step, and with the majority support of
many Canadians, Canada s future of giving equal rights to individuals wanting to participate in same
sex marriages looks bright. Even though, the federal Canadian government has no plans to either
widen the definition of marriage to include homosexuals, or to create a civil union state with new
legislation. Many court challenges are in progress.
The Danish government made changes to previous laws covering inheritance and tax laws to give
same sex couples equality with married couples. This law allows rights that were granted to married
couples such as; inheritance, insurance, pension, social security, income tax increases or deductions,
and unemployment benefits.
In France a same sex married couple can participate in a national health insurance plan, the same tax
breaks, and the same legal benefits. The government in France has even made it easier for homosexual
couples to adopt children. France has really made an

The importance of structure in an organisation is imperative; structure enables different individuals to

earlier the leader has the responsibility to inspire and motivate, and the concept of transformational
leadership style exhibits this responsibility where the leader desires to transform and improve the team

After reading F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby you seem to find an understanding of the
American Dream Jay Gatsby was chasing after, and at the end of the book, we seem to find out the
consequences Gatsby faced for going after the American Dream. Jay Gatsby was born to a poor family
of farmers in rural North Dakota. He hated the fact that he had so many limitations in life for the pure
fact of him being poor. As Gatsby grew older and found the fruits of being wealthy. After coming back
from World War I, he found prohibition and made an empire and fortune through a very illegal and

The Luxury Of Giving In The Gift Of The Magi
One must be poor to know the luxury of giving. This inspiring quote by George Elliot establishes the
fact that in giving openhandedly, there is a great deal of pleasure when a person is poor. This idea
relates to The Gift of the Magi, a short story written by O. Henry. Here, a young couple Jim and Della
Dillingham, sacrifice whatever it takes in order to give each other the best Christmas present which
they both deserve. However, they each cannot not afford enough money to give a heartfelt gift which
represents their committed love for one another. As a result, they give up their most valued possession
to help pay for their Christmas presents. In O. Henry s story, The Gift of the Magi, the author uses

Although he works hard, he still cannot help to pay the rent. Therefore, he does not have enough
money to purchase Della a delightful gift. Eventually, the author reveals that Jim has made the choice
to give up one of his most valuable item. What he does, is that he ends up selling his gold watch that
was passed down to him from generations. This way he can receive money to purchase Della a heart
touching gift. In this situation, Jim speaks, Dell, ...let s put our Christmas presents away and keep em a
while. They re too nice to use just as a present. I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs.
And now suppose you put the chops on (Henry 3). This statement demonstrates that Jim has made a
similar sacrifice as Della. Similarly, he gave away something so precious and memorable. This
supports the theme because he sacrificed his watch, which was a family heirloom. It was very
generous of him of selling it to buy something more generic for Della. Him sacrificing his watch
represents true love. Some people may say that it was pointless for them to give up their valuable
possessions because they didn t end up being used at all. However, though it s true that they didn t end
up using their presents, it demonstrates how Della and Jim are brave. This portrays true love and that
they are willing to give up or sacrifice things for each other no matter

Louis Giannetti Neorealism
Neorealism, as the name suggests, is a new realism. Louis Giannetti gives a definition in the book
Understanding Movies that Strongly realistic in its techniques, neorealism emphasized documentary
aspects of film art, stressing loose episodic plots, unextraordinary event and characters, natural
lighting, actual location settings, nonprofessional actors, a preoccupation with poverty and social
problems, and an emphasis on humanistic and democratic ideas. (Giannetti, 2004, 538). Bicycle
Thieves and Pather Panchali are two movies that represent this style.
First, Bicycle Thieves is a representative work of Italian neorealism. Italian neorealism actually rose in
frustration. After World War II, all neglected matters in Italy were yet to be dealt with. Reflected in the
area of film production, the war destroyed the film factory and created scarcity of resources. The film
industry was almost breakdown. In such an environment, low budget film emerged as the time
required. In Bicycle Thieves, the main characters, the unemployed worker and his son, were played by
two non professional actors. Their acting is really powerful. The father s cry at the end of the movie

As the creditors view, they prefer the high current ratio. The current ratio provides the best single
indicator of the extent, which assets that are expected to be converted to cash fairly quickly cover the

shareholder. A high current ratio could mean that the company has a lot of money tied up in
nonproductive assets.
The return on equity, ROE, is as high as 20.69% (above 15%). It illustrate that the RL Corporation
uses the investors money pretty effectively. As of return of assets, equals to 13.10%, which reveals
how much profit a company earns for every dollar of its assets. Both ROE and ROA for RL

World Hunger Rough Draft
World Hunger Rough Draft
World hunger is a very serious issue in today s world, that is very stunning in a world full of resources
and food to feed the hungry. World hunger affects millions around the world. There are 795 million
malnutritioned people around the world today. The good news is that hunger is a problem that can be
solved. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone. Today s knowledge, and willing people
can just be enough to solve the main issue of world hunger.
Chronic hunger derives from poverty, armed conflict, being poor, and environ mental overload. World
hunger has many causes, these causes eventually lead to chronic hunger. Far more people die from
causes related to chronic hunger than to famine. Chronically hungry people are exceptionally
vulnerable when famine strikes . This relates to the ancient Egyptian myth, The Seven Years Famine.
Us as human beings need to take action and help the hungry eat and learn how to sustain themselves.

A Study On Private Equity Investments
The last few decades have witnessed massive evolution of private equity (PE) investing from the small
niche it used to be to the significant industry it is today. Currently, PE plays an essential role in the
economy; it enhances innovation and growth in expanding firms or promising start ups, as well as by
nurturing the restructuring of companies that are already mature (e.g., Davila et al., 2003; Cressy et
al., 2007). Private equity investing has been acknowledged as a new and proficient form of
organisation that generates economic efficiencies through a superior governance framework. Due to
its ability to offer benefits in terms of diversification as well as return relative to traditional stock and

Based on Talmor Vasvari (2012), in spite of the comparatively small number of vehicles, the
improvement is striking since some of the largest and most prominent private equity vehicles, such as

private equity vehicles drastically increases the opportunities for scrutinizing an industry that is
famous for being notoriously private.
Similar to PEs in developed markets, sub Saharan Africa experienced a build up of activity that
culminated to the financial crisis. Based on EMPEA (2011), a total of USD 6 billion dedicated for sub
Saharan African funds was raised between 2006 and 2008 by Private equity capital. In spite of the
drastic increases compared with previous years (only USD 159 billion was raised by sub Saharan
African funds between 2000 and 2005), the level of PE in the area is reticent in global terms. During
the same period Sub Saharan Africa accounted for less than four percent of the USD 159 billion raised
for all emerging markets between 2006 and 2008, and less than a fifty percent of the USD 1.4 trillion
raised worldwide by PE funds in the same period. Mergermarket (2012) insists that in the same
period, investment amounts across 47 markets in sub Saharan Africa totalled USD 8 billion, compared

Alexander Nehamas
Alexander Nehamas believes that the attracted properties of art and beauty lies within our feeling and
emotions. In his account, he explained that even though a higher or more abstract ideas of beauty can
be found, the fundamental principles we used to judge the quality of the art is not purely intellectual
but, rather, the desires plays as a part of the appreciation. He emphasized that the beauty of the
artwork provokes individuals to possess in a way that we want to know more about the painting
whether from our lust or other forms of emotion (7). In another word, Nehamas reasons that emotional

His approach is limited, uncertain and does not take into account of top tier artworks which are loved
globally. I will propose an experimental thoughts against Stolnitz. Let s consider a monumental
artwork such as the conclusion of Joe Hisaishi s artwork called One Summer s Day , is well known
and loved all over the world. As Stolnitz suggest that we need to appreciate this far reaching work by
appreciating the essence undistracted by our feelings and emotions. The beauty of sound can certainly
move our emotions and, moreover, is almost impossible to control one s emotions and appreciate the
artwork sympathetically. Hence, even if one were to achieve purely object appreciation of the music,
one will not completely understands the core concepts of the artwork and the meaning presented by
the author. The purpose of Joe s closing section touches our feeling and move our soul. Stolnitz s
argument falls short; as anybody whom are expert with artwork knows how to move the observer
emotionally. Thus, my examples proves that Nehamas s view is intuitively right which proves that
observer should use their emotional capacity as a part of their aesthetic attitude to appreciate the

The Ethical Ethics Of Nike
We may all have noticed that all kinds of shoes we wear, especially the athletic ones are not
manufactured in their home country. All labels are indicating the producer country (Vietnam,

knew that these shoes were manufactured literally with the exploitation of people? Nike is one of the
most recognisable organizations worldwide and the top in the athletic industry. As all domestic
companies, Nike manufactured its products in the USA but due to higher labour costs, cooperated with
two Japanese manufacturers until it again turned to countries with even lower labour cost. Basically
Nike never made shoes in the United States, as Japan was considered a country of the third world and

avoid any accusations Nike could launch a policy of providing extra benefits to its workers according
to their production (for instance, coupons for buying goods from grocery shops),or rewarding them by

Similarities Between Monty Python And The Holy Grail
The movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a parody of the King Arthur s quest for the Holy grail.
The film mocked what a true noble quest was like and made it seem like a joke. Most importantly,
Monty Python and the Holy Grail satirized the chivalric code and behavior of knights by making them
and their practices look foolish and nonsensical. During the middle ages, a knight was expected to
follow the chivalric code like their life depended on it, because , in reality, it did. The code included
(but was not limited to): fearing God, respecting women, never backing down from a challenge from a
peer, and fighting to the end of anything started (Knights). In the film, the idea of fighting to the end
was mocked when the knight in the forest

The Hitler Youth
Jungsturm Adolf Hitler
Hitler Youth Propaganda poster
In 1920, Adolf Hitler, authorized the formation of a Youth League of the National Socialist Workers
Party (NSDAP) based upon the principles of an earlier German youth group known as as the
Wandervögel. The Wandervögel (translated as Migratory Bird ) were the German equivalent of the
Boy Scouts of America and the World Organization of the Scout Movement.
Wandervögel members had an idealistic, romantic notion of the past, yearning for simpler days when
people lived off the land. Wandervögel members distinguished themselves by wearing shorts and
hiking boots rather than the starched shirts and creased trousers of the middle class. They believed in
the importance of rediscovering nature without any modern conveniences. They sang old German folk
songs around the campfire and greeting each other by saying Heil.
This new Nazi Youth League attracted very few members at first, competing against numerous other
well established youth groups, and following the failed Munich Beer Hall Putsch and Hitler s arrest,
the Youth League of the NSDAP had been outlawed.

However with Hitler s release from prison and the resurgence of the NSDAP, a new Nazi Youth Party

Different Times, Different Ideals
Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There
was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function,
and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was
commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time
period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written
during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian
Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting
from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered
inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains
with this tale.
This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different
sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure
and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the
companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two
main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the
Victorian Era.

The United States Of American And The Kuwaiti Life
The United States of American and the Kuwaiti life
The United States of America is far most known as the best place for a person to live in and enjoy a
peaceful life with no problems, at least most people believe that is true because they don t have
problems in their life but others do. Kuwait on the other hand, which is located in the Middle East
beside Iraq and Saudi Arabia, is also a very peaceful life where enjoy it because they do not have
anything that they have to worry about and the only bad weather they get is rain and sand storms
which cannot kill anyone. These two countries are a perfect place to live your life. They are very
similar at times and very different at others.
The USA definitely dresses and speaks way different than Kuwait do or ever will. The people in the
USA dress in a t shirt and jeans most of the time or casual, in Kuwait people wear clothing known as a
disdahsha which is white long sleeved clothing that goes all the way down to their knees and women
wear a Hijab worn around their head to cover their hair from the men so that the men does not fall in
love with their beauty and the Abaya which is a long rob like dress. They also speak a different
language than the USA. Kuwait s first language is Arabic which is known as the hardest language to
learn because it is so confusing and hard to pronounce, their second language is English. As everyone

  • 3. Essay The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet If Hamlet from himself be ta en away, And when he s not himself does wrong Laertes, Then Hamlet does it not, Hamlet denies it. Who does it then? His madness. If t be so, Hamlet is of the faction that is wrong d; His madness is poor Hamlet s enemy. (V.ii.230 235) Hamlet s self description in his apology to Laertes, delivered in the appropriately distanced and divided third person, explicitly fingers the greatest antagonist of the playâ€čconsciousness. The obligatory cultural baggage that comes along with Hamlet heeds little attention to the incestuous Claudius while focusing entirely on the gloomy Dane s legendary melancholia and his resulting revenge delays. As Laurence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chief definition of thought revolves around the basic concept of the mental process: The action or process of thinking; mental action or activity in general, esp. that of the intellect; exercise of the mental faculty; formation and arrangement of ideas in the mind (OED, 1a). A further subset of definitions can be catalogued into a Manichean vision of positives and negatives and which equally apply to Hamlet s central consideration of consciousness as a blessing or a curse. There is a stress on thought s potentiality which fits with Hamlet s obsession with the infinitude of man: Conception, imagination, fancy (OED, 4c). But following this comes the negative view of thought as quasi action, a direct link to Hamlet s stall tactics: The entertaining of some project in the mind; the idea or notion of doing something, as contemplated or entertained in the mind; hence, intention, purpose, design; esp. an imperfect or half formed intention; with negative expressed or implied = not the least intention or notion of doing something (OED, 4d). Similarly, the past neutral sense of Remembrance, ƒmind (OED, 5e) is countered by the negative anticipatory connotation of: Anxiety or distress of mind; solicitude; grief, sorrow, trouble, care, vexation (OED, 5a). • 4. Anthem Individuality Essay Individuality in Anthem Ceaseless collectivism is not something that can be forced upon a community. Ayn Rand s novel Anthem conveys this through the writings of Equality 7 2125, a man willing to stand up to the collectivism of the society he is confined to. Anthem not only shows how dull and lifeless a society can be with a lack of individuality in its people, but also reveals how one person can significantly impact a community. This novel displays the importance of individualism through Equality s thoughts and actions. This includes when he reinvents electricity in the tunnel, falls in love with Liberty, and when he completely separates himself from society. Equality s individualism is prominent when he purposely isolates himself in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Equality continues to make his individualism known by preferring a woman, Liberty 3 5000, above all. While sweeping the streets, Equality takes notice of a woman working in the fields. He is instantly intrigued by her and thinks of her over all others. Equality s attitude is significantly changed by his interactions with Liberty. We do not know why we think of them. We do not know why, when we think of them, we feel of a sudden that earth is good and that it is not a burden to live (Rand 41). Individualism is shown when Equality chooses to favor Liberty. Equality looked at her, even though there were other women in the field that day. He chooses Liberty above all the woman. Equallity shows a preference in only her, which shows individuality. To add, Equality is becoming more unruly and disobiedient by continuing to break rules. The crimes he comits involve talking to woman of other Trades, looking upon woman, and the Transgression of Preference, which is to prefer someone or something above others. Equality s love for Liberty continues to isolate and detach him from his brothers. His love for Liberty motivates him to banish himself from his society and cut off all his ties to it. Equality s individuality grows further when he purposely separates himself from his society and obliterates the last of his identity that associates himself with the City. • 5. Dostoyevsky s Crime And Punishment Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment relies heavily on Raskolnikov s motivation for committing the crime. To the casual reader, the motives are straightforward he wants to find out if he, like Napoleon, is an extraordinary man; wants to rid society of the pawnbroker, the louse; wants simply to lift himself from debt with the money he stole. But these explanations do not strike the heart of the matter: there is a deeper cause. The ultimate reason behind Raskolnikov s violent murder of the pawnbroker stems from a combination of an oppressive environment of poverty and Raskolnikov s characteristic arrogance. Good, straightforward thesis It is almost a given that Raskolnikov was poor, however the extent of this is easily overlooked. From just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Walking down the street adjacent to his apartment at the outset of the novel, Raskolnikov s psychology is swiftly illuminated, The insufferable stench from the pot houses, which are particularly numerous in that part of the town, and the drunken men whom he met continually, although it was a working day, completed the revolting misery of the picture. An expression of the profoundest disgust gleamed for a moment in the young man s refined face. He was, by the way, exceptionally handsome, above the average in height, slim, well built, with beautiful dark eyes and dark brown hair. ... he walked along not observing what was about him and not caring to observe it. (3). Here, Raskolnikov is disgusted by the surroundings of his home and community he certainly sees himself above such squalor. Further elevating his opinion of himself are his exceptional good looks, which surely cause him to develop a sense of superiority over time. Raskolnikov s behavior of disregarding intentionally his surroundings is also indicative of deep seated egotism and arrogance, acting as though he is the only object worthy of his own attention. A final factor contributing to Raskolnikov s superiority complex is his intelligence. In a letter he receives from his mother, it becomes clear that Raskolnikov is both highly intelligent and well educated, as she states, What a grief it was to me when I heard that you had given up the university some months ago, ... • 6. Descriptive Essay About My Childhood My childhood was never something that seemed to be a typical boy s childhood. I never watched sports as kid since the T.V. channel was dictated by my parents so all we watched were shows like Law Order, CSI, and Fear Factor. I never learned about cars whatsoever and talking about girls always perplexed me. I never understood how someone could base their feelings about someone based off physical appearances, but that could just be because I was very pessimistic and was always very distant of people in general. They all tried to their best to include me in the conversation by asking my opinion on their discussion. While the discussion was trained on football one of the upperclassman asked, So Nick, who s your favorite team? When I replied that I had no clue they tried a different question. Oh, well, which Halo games have you played? Have you played Halo 3? This question really threw me because it ran on the assumption that I had played games from the Halo franchise. I told them that I had never heard of Halo and the amount of shock that could be seen in their face was astounding. It felt like I was an anomaly in society, that I was raised incorrectly. Despite me being a guy I had no knowledge on any of the guy stuff that they were talking about. I had never realized that they gender stereotypes in something as basic as conversational topics and things that they should be well versed in. It s something that seems absurd to think that society thinks that people are born with some kind of innate knowledge about the frivolous things of our society based off their gender. This type of expectation is often seen throughout society. Gender roles are normally seen as physical traits, per se. Most stereotypes are thought to pertain to what a person is expected to do or look like, such as a woman being a housewife or a man looking like a brawny lumberjack. The Integration of Central High School Little Rock, Arkansas The desegregation of public facilities began with the decision of Brown vs Board of Education in 1954, where the Supreme Court of the United States deemed segregation unlawful and unconstitutional. The country was told that desegregation was to take place with all deliberate speed . This angered the white community. Violent retaliation was the means used to prevent the integration of blacks into various public facilities. No man had yet been elected for a 3rd term as governor of Arkansas. Apparently someone told the man that if he firmly supported preventing the desegregation of the school he would get his third term. Faubus appeared on television and stated that he would have the Arkansas National Guard in front of the school to prevent the black children s entry. He claimed that it was for the protection of the children . Faubus had no proof yet he claimed that a violent resistance had been planned and this was for the good of the blacks. Faubus created a self fulfilling prophecy and sure enough, a violent mob stood outside the school the following day. Daisy Bates, the president of the NAACP at the time, had called all of the children to her house the morning they were to attend Central High School. Only eight were in attendance. As Prime Minister of England during World War II, Winston Churchill s leadership left a permanent mark upon history. Many believe that without him, the Allies would have lost the war. In the words of John C. Maxwell, Leaders become great not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others. Churchill prided himself in having courage in all things and possessed the unique ability to provide others with courage also. He led the British empire through battle after battle tirelessly, saying, Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential. To him, there was no use saying we are doing our best. You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary. Although it was almost certain that Britain would lose World War II, Churchill provided the willpower needed to stand against Germany and engendered a motivated and hardworking government, as well as an inspired nation. The species is becoming an established breeding population in South Florida and its environs. The python was illegally freed in the Everglades National park where the marshy grasses and water provide a conducive environment for its survival. Burmese python was recognized as a reproducing population around the year 2000. The python has been classified as an invasive species in Florida. The species has disrupted the ecosystem by preying on native species and out competing them for food. The python is a successful invasive species because their large size makes it have fewer predators (alligators and humans) (Brown, 2006). Efforts have been put in place to manage the increase of the Burmese pythons due to the devastating effects it has caused in the ecosystem. Python removal and control is being done through dogs and human search. Dog search has recorded much greater success than human beings because humans cannot access some areas due to the thick vegetation. Some of these aspects included social, psychological, and other components of the author s life. Within his book parts of his life included were the people from his life. These people were Kenneth Grahame s father, his son Alastair, and his friend Sir Arthur Quiller Couch. One of the people from his life who was transformed into a memorable character was his son Alastair. The Wind in the Willows was a novel based on bedtime stories about the character named Toad, the stories of which were told to Alastair in effort to soothe him to sleep. When Kenneth took the stories and adapted them into a novel, he used qualities from his son and used them in the character Mole. Mole could easily be described as a mild mannered, as well as home loving animal. He was the first character to be introduced in the story. Within the first chapter of the novel Mole ventured outside of his underground home. Soon after coming outside Mole realized the fast moving pace of life around the riverbank. Although cautious at first, Mole soon adapted with help from his new found friends. Since birth Alastair had complications that made life increasingly more difficult as he grew up. One of the largest complications that was faced by Alastair was that he was blinded in one eye since birth. While also faced with other disabilities, Alastair s problem was the blindness he retained. Similar to how Mole adapted to his surroundings by the riverbank, Alastair adapted to life with disabilities while keeping a mild mannered attitude. In addition to the adaptation, Alastair accepted help from many people like his father and mother like Mole accepted help from his friends. Mole went through complications as well throughout the chapters within the novel. One of these complications is how when Mole became impatient to meet Badger and went off on his own to find him, leading to him becoming lost in the woods until his friend Rat finds him. This holds particular significance for a modern audience who, unlike the predominately Christian audiences of Shakespeare s time, contains an assortment of perspectives on the subject. For the majority of the play, Hamlet yearns for death, but there are different tones to his yearning as he confronts death in different circumstances; from his encounter with his father s ghost to the discovery of his beloved Ophelia dead in the ground, Hamlet feels an irrepressible urge to end his life. By behaving provocatively (crazy) and exposing his uncle s perfidy, Hamlet hopes to drive his uncle murderous once again, so that he can kill him and die a hero. It is ironic that Hamlet uses retribution against his father s death as the means to reach his own death. His attitude toward the concept of death at this point is split; he behaves as though his father s death is a bad thing, yet he seems dead set (pardon the pun) on bringing on his own death through his bizarre and provocative antics. Hamlet s antics climax with the visiting players putting on a performance of The Murder of Gonzago, which Hamlet designs in order to catch the conscience of the king (2.2.610). Unfortunately, it succeeds too well, and Hamlet finds his uncle alone and penitent, and thus unfit to send to Hell. This seems a peculiar deviation from the Hamlet earlier in the play who abides by the Christian code against suicide; in desiring not only his uncle s death, but his damnation as well, Hamlet takes on a decidedly evil and soulless countenance. One might argue that it is his father s ghost who imbues this diabolical edge to Hamlet, that Hamlet s face to face experience with the grave has tainted his spirit (Gottschalk 156). The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance Introduction Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally. Some of these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think they can attain an edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham Athletics, I was given many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My interactions with these athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed before competitions, triggered my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic performance. Does prayer before competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this paper I will examine the effects of religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well as how it affects an athlete s overall performance. Up until two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes religious beliefs had no effect on their overall performance. Three Good Things Project Analysis During the Three Good Things project, I found that I still experienced the normal up and downs that you do every day, but at night when I would sit and reflect on my three things it would help calm my racing mind allowing me to drift off to sleep. That was the first thing I noticed, the second thing I noticed was how even getting up in the morning and going to do the events that I really just did not want to do if I thought of the good things that happened the previous day or read what I wrote I was more positive towards going and doing the things that I did not want to do. For me this was good for a calming and motivation point of view, I felt that good things happened yesterday if I don t go today I may miss more good things. The next thing ... • 31. A Study On Private Equity Investments The last few decades have witnessed massive evolution of private equity (PE) investing from the small niche it used to be to the significant industry it is today. Currently, PE plays an essential role in the economy; it enhances innovation and growth in expanding firms or promising start ups, as well as by nurturing the restructuring of companies that are already mature (e.g., Davila et al., 2003; Cressy et al., 2007). Private equity investing has been acknowledged as a new and proficient form of organisation that generates economic efficiencies through a superior governance framework. Due to its ability to offer benefits in terms of diversification as well as return relative to traditional stock and bond market investments, PE has become ... Based on Talmor Vasvari (2012), in spite of the comparatively small number of vehicles, the improvement is striking since some of the largest and most prominent private equity vehicles, such as KRR and Blackstone, have preferred to go public. From an academic angle, the surfacing of listed private equity vehicles drastically increases the opportunities for scrutinizing an industry that is famous for being notoriously private. Similar to PEs in developed markets, sub Saharan Africa experienced a build up of activity that culminated to the financial crisis. Based on EMPEA (2011), a total of USD 6 billion dedicated for sub Saharan African funds was raised between 2006 and 2008 by Private equity capital. In spite of the drastic increases compared with previous years (only USD 159 billion was raised by sub Saharan African funds between 2000 and 2005), the level of PE in the area is reticent in global terms. During the same period Sub Saharan Africa accounted for less than four percent of the USD 159 billion raised for all emerging markets between 2006 and 2008, and less than a fifty percent of the USD 1.4 trillion raised worldwide by PE funds in the same period. In his account, he explained that even though a higher or more abstract ideas of beauty can be found, the fundamental principles we used to judge the quality of the art is not purely intellectual but, rather, the desires plays as a part of the appreciation. He emphasized that the beauty of the artwork provokes individuals to possess in a way that we want to know more about the painting whether from our lust or other forms of emotion (7). His approach is limited, uncertain and does not take into account of top tier artworks which are loved globally. I will propose an experimental thoughts against Stolnitz. Let s consider a monumental artwork such as the conclusion of Joe Hisaishi s artwork called One Summer s Day , is well known and loved all over the world. As Stolnitz suggest that we need to appreciate this far reaching work by appreciating the essence undistracted by our feelings and emotions. The beauty of sound can certainly move our emotions and, moreover, is almost impossible to control one s emotions and appreciate the artwork sympathetically. Hence, even if one were to achieve purely object appreciation of the music, one will not completely understands the core concepts of the artwork and the meaning presented by the author. The purpose of Joe s closing section touches our feeling and move our soul. Stolnitz s argument falls short; as anybody whom are expert with artwork knows how to move the observer emotionally. Thus, my examples proves that Nehamas s view is intuitively right which proves that observer should use their emotional capacity as a part of their aesthetic attitude to appreciate the beauty of the ... • 33. The Ethical Ethics Of Nike We may all have noticed that all kinds of shoes we wear, especially the athletic ones are not manufactured in their home country. All labels are indicating the producer country (Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, etc).Of course many of us don t pay much attention to that. But what if we knew that these shoes were manufactured literally with the exploitation of people? Nike is one of the most recognisable organizations worldwide and the top in the athletic industry. As all domestic companies, Nike manufactured its products in the USA but due to higher labour costs, cooperated with two Japanese manufacturers until it again turned to countries with even lower labour cost. Basically Nike never made shoes in the United States, as Japan was considered a country of the third world and since then Nike was migrating from nation to nation. • 34. Similarities Between Monty Python And The Holy Grail The movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a parody of the King Arthur s quest for the Holy grail. The film mocked what a true noble quest was like and made it seem like a joke. Most importantly, Monty Python and the Holy Grail satirized the chivalric code and behavior of knights by making them and their practices look foolish and nonsensical. During the middle ages, a knight was expected to follow the chivalric code like their life depended on it, because , in reality, it did. The code included (but was not limited to): fearing God, respecting women, never backing down from a challenge from a peer, and fighting to the end of anything started (Knights). The Hitler Youth Propaganda Poster The Hitler Youth Jungsturm Adolf Hitler Hitler Youth Propaganda poster In 1920, Adolf Hitler, authorized the formation of a Youth League of the National Socialist Workers Party (NSDAP) based upon the principles of an earlier German youth group known as as the Wandervögel. The Wandervögel (translated as Migratory Bird ) were the German equivalent of the Boy Scouts of America and the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Wandervögel members had an idealistic, romantic notion of the past, yearning for simpler days when people lived off the land. Wandervögel members distinguished themselves by wearing shorts and hiking boots rather than the starched shirts and creased trousers of the middle class. They believed in the importance of rediscovering nature without any modern conveniences. They sang old German folk songs around the campfire and greeting each other by saying Heil. This new Nazi Youth League attracted very few members at first, competing against numerous other well established youth groups, and following the failed Munich Beer Hall Putsch and Hitler s arrest, the Youth League of the NSDAP had been outlawed. Adolf Hitler with one of the Hitler Youth boys However with Hitler s release from prison and the resurgence of the NSDAP, a new Nazi Youth Party was established and headed by Gustav Lenk. • 38. Different Times, Different Ideals Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function, and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains with this tale. This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the Victorian Era. The United States Of American And The Kuwaiti Life The United States of American and the Kuwaiti life The United States of America is far most known as the best place for a person to live in and enjoy a peaceful life with no problems, at least most people believe that is true because they don t have problems in their life but others do. Kuwait on the other hand, which is located in the Middle East beside Iraq and Saudi Arabia, is also a very peaceful life where enjoy it because they do not have anything that they have to worry about and the only bad weather they get is rain and sand storms which cannot kill anyone. These two countries are a perfect place to live your life. They are very similar at times and very different at others. The USA definitely dresses and speaks way different than Kuwait do or ever will. The people in the USA dress in a t shirt and jeans most of the time or casual, in Kuwait people wear clothing known as a disdahsha which is white long sleeved clothing that goes all the way down to their knees and women wear a Hijab worn around their head to cover their hair from the men so that the men does not fall in love with their beauty and the Abaya which is a long rob like dress. They also speak a different language than the USA.
