Motion Picture History
Before World War I, films were being made mostly European countries and in Japan. When the war
interrupted European filmmaking, however, the American film industry began to dominate the
world market. In the years between 1917 and 1927 the silent film reached the peak of its
development. United States had the largest filmindustry and American films dominated the
international market. Germany and Japan still had some movie industries but mostly left to
domestic. Many nations found film production as a matter of importance to national culture,
sometimes by limiting on film imports. D. W. Griffith transformed early day of domestic
production to an era of Hollywood s worldwide dominance. Major companies that dominated
Hollywood were Fox,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lee De Forest, who exhibited brief sound films to the public in 1923, pioneered both of these
developments. Although the public failed to respond to De Forest s sound films, electronics
manufacturers continued to experiment with both sound on film and phonograph discs
synchronized with film. In 1926, Warner Brothers released a program using synchronized discs;
it included short talking and musical films and a silent feature, Don Juan , with a synchronized
accompaniment. William Fox in 1927, and later that year he also released the first sound
newsreels released a short sound on film comedy with spoken dialogue. Public acceptance of
sound came on Oct. 6, 1927, when Warner Brothers presented Al Jolson singing and saying a few
words in The Jazz Singer . The first full length all sound film was The Lights of New York , issued
by Warner Brothers in 1928. The success of sound revolutionized the film industry. Theaters had
to install sound projection equipment, and film studios had to find methods of soundproofing
cameras and stages. Movement in most of the early sound films appeared static, because cameras
had to be enclosed in soundproof boxes that were difficult to move. Eventually cameras with
noiseless gears were developed; microphones were put on booms, or poles, which could be
extended as needed. Early

Phenomenology In The Works Of Peter Zumthor
Discuss how phenomenology has become a fundamental concern in the works of Peter Zumthor
through both the formal and spatial characteristics of his design for the Steilneset Witches
Memorial, VardГё, Norway
Phenomenology in architectural terms can be expressed as: The philosophical study if the built
space as it appears in experience.
It however gets its root meaning from the Greek words_ phainГіmenon which means: that which
appears , and logos which means: study .
We can further bring this to more expressive wording and say; the philosophical (in Greek means
love of wisdom) study of structures of experience and consciousness.
In the following assignment we will find out phenomenology has become a fundamental concern in
the works of Peter Zumthor.
Peter Zumthor is a Swiss architect (currently aged 74) whose work is often seen as minimalist and
uncompromising. Zumthor through his years of practice and managing a small firm managed to
pocket himself two very notable awards amongst plenty others. The awards ... Show more content

architecture should speak simple things and labour. The buildings (his) try to be very simple and
straight forward in construction and not too sophisticated. The building ensures that it is about
being inside, it s about being outside. The inside can be theatrical. If you may the space black, then
the natural colours outside can come into the space (not necessarily with the Steilneset witch

Economics Overview
The Verizon Center, formerly know as the MCI Center, is a 220,000 square foot arena that can
hold around 20,000 built in 1997 (Casey, 64). This new construction brought new life to downtown
D.C. In response, the Wizards saw a 100 percent increase in their advertising returns when they built
a new stadium (Mayer, 199). The Verizon Centeris also home to the WashingtonCapitals, a
professional hockey franchise. The stadium became a a key element in the revitalization of the city
s Downtown... it changed the city s vision of the type of place that could be created in the
Washington, DC submarket (Rizzo, 43). There is no doubt that this center became a central point of
the D.C. area. It continues to brings in around 2.5 million spectators a year between the multiple
franchises it houses
Graphed above are Forbes yearly database numbers for the Washington Wizardsfranchise in the
areas of player expenses, operating income, revenue, wins to player cost ratio and value (Rizzo,

the development and created several thousand new jobs (Johnson, 22). There is no doubt that this
center became a central point of the D.C. area, as it still assists the local economy.

Hurricane Katrin The Worst Tropical Storm
Hurricane Katrina can be described as the worst tropical storm to touch the United States. This
catastrophic disaster occurred August 29, 2005 killing over 1800 people and causing billions of
dollars in damages. Most of the damages were to homes, buildings, schools, and city
infrastructure. The vulnerable populations in this disaster were the elderly, the disabled, and lower
income households. These people were very vulnerable due to the lack of resources like finances
and automobiles, which would be needed to escape before the hurricane occurred. Despite the
economic decline the city New Orleans was already in, Hurricane Katrinamade the economy decline

Hurricane Katrina drastically affected the lives of the individuals and families that would be
considered economically challenged or less fortunate, the elderly, and the disabled. These low
income individuals and families are known as the vulnerable population due to their location to
the waters and also to their inability to get receive certain resources. Many would say these
people suffered the most due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina. There is no way to 100%
accurately measure the impact that a natural disaster will have on a city or the environment but
this disaster definitely left its mark on New Orleans history as well as the United States History.
According to CNN.com, (Hurricane Katrina Statistics Fast Facts, 2014), Katrina was the single
most catastrophic natural disaster in U.S. History . Not only did this disaster take the lives of
people and cause major infrastructural damage to buildings but it also as some would say ruined
the city of New Orleans .
This natural disaster caused many problems for city of New Orleans, its surrounding communities,
and also the citizens that lived there. This disaster caused an abundant amount of infrastructural
damage to the levees, local businesses, grade schools, colleges, churches, high rise buildings, and
homes. The damage was so excessive that it caused the city to lose thousands of jobs in a city
where there was a shortage of jobs prior to the hurricanes damage.

Death Vs Religion
Over the past ten weeks, there has been a hefty amount of information about how different religions
deal with subjects regarding human nature. If the is true if God and Gods exist, evil and good, and
numerous ceremonies that are important to accomplish. The first topic that I found the most
stimulating and educational is how different religions handle the thought of deathand if there is life
after death or remaining life is nothingness. The distress of death is one of the most common
causes and effects of anxiety and is customary even in individuals who do not experience the
normal symptoms of anxiety (Collett Lester, 1969) and the ultimate part of this is facing the
indefinite possibilities. Religionthroughout history has tried to assuage this concern by explaining
what happens after death while also working it into the education of good, evil, morality, and...

Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism are some of the most widespread faiths that follow this
belief pattern, calling it samsara, which is the (karma run helm of birth, death, and reawakening)
(Fisher, 2014). They believe that the body is born repeatedly but that karma is carried onto the
new form. Good karma forming is when the individual implements good deeds throughout their
life and negative karma forming is when the individual does evil deeds during the course of one
s life, that not only distresses the person during their current life span but also all impending
reincarnations. This idea of karma is used to explain many facets of a person s life as their
ambiance in their present life and all former lives will form what happens in their life. What is
most fascinating is that the objective for the persons that shadow this route is not to have
respectable lives born of virtuous karma but as a substitute halt this point though various lifespans

Piaget s Theory Of Cognitive Development
There are some significant theories which is beneficial even today. Researchers still utilize and
take advantage from some of them and do their researches based upon these theories. Piaget s
theory of Cognitive development is one of them. While there are some benefits and advantages to
use this theory to explain cognitive development, there are some problems showed up about this
theory over time. This essay examines problems with Piaget s theory. Firstly explains theory, than

Piaget s theory of cognitive development focuses on children s thinking differs from adults.

Social Cost Benefit Analysis and Itemization of On Site Sediment Remediation
Introduction/Background
Transport of contaminated sediments from major regional Superfund projects in the NY/NJ harbor
corridor has been the preferred back end alternative after the dredging remedy is performed in order
to clean these areas without generating higher costs. However, after dewatering, these sediments
are shipped at great distances (to UT, OK, TX, ID) for final disposition at C landfills or for
incineration. Corporate risk management in mishandling the Superfund sediment in transport such
as a derailment can lead to long term corporate liability as well as environmental hazards from a
spill from both the ecological and human health perspectives. As such, a new localized remediation
method involving superheating sediments on site within a rotary kiln have recently been
implemented in other areas, and, because of its beneficial use product generation, reduction of risk
and gaseous contaminants, and removal of transport costs, it is now being considered as a viable
alternative to traditional post dredge remediation procedures.
This social cost benefit analysis will look at the Focused Feasibility Study Report (FFS) on the
USEPA Passaic River Superfund concentrating on sediment processing and subsequent transport by
rail to out of state landfill and incineration facilities. Costs components of the process have

What Does The One Ring Symbolize
J.R.R. Tolkien s Lord of the Rings
One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them
(Tolkien, The Two Towers 233)
One of the masters of British Literature, J.R.R. Tolkien was able to create a fantasy world with an
endless supply of parallelisms to reality. The fantasy world was found in the Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien is able to create wonderful symbolism and meaning out of what would otherwise be
considered nonsense. He creates symbolism and meaning by mastering his own world and his own
language. To understand the symbolism of The Ruling Ring, or The One Ring, one must
understand the events, which take place from the time of the ring s creation until the time ... Show

And while he wore the One Ring he could perceive all the things that where done by means of the
lesser rings, and he could see and govern the very thoughts of those that wore them. (Tolkien, The
Silmarillion 589)
The people recognize the power of the One Ring as soon as Sauron puts the One Ring on his
finger. They realize that he can control their thoughts. This makes the people decide to remove
their rings and never use them. The people and Sauron become bitter enemies while the One Ring
remains in Sauron s possession. The One Ring is lost in the river when Isildur defeats Sauron.
After passing through many hands, the One Ring is given to Frodo Baggins. This brings us to the
beginning of the Lord of the Rings.
The nature of the One Ring can be explained in three distinct ways. The One Ring is a
personification of Sauron s power. It is a symbol of evil in general. It also is an object with a mind
of its own.
As the One Ring s creator, Sauron had placed a great amount of his own power into the ring for
the purpose of controlling the other rings. The ring is an extension of Sauron s power. The loss
of the ring does not destroy Sauron. Only the destruction of the One Ring can destroy Sauron. His
power simply becomes spread around, and his influence affects whoever has possession of the
ring. If Sauron gets the ring back, his power will be greater than ever. If he recovers it, then he will
command them all again, wherever they be,

Temperature In The Middle Ages Essay
The topic is about whether temperatures were actually warmer in the Middle Ages than they are
today. If so, why? If no, why not? I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict
our future. The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little
human interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climateand the how s and why
s. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current
predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval
Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to
the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and
France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. North America was in the grip
of a grave drought. But just how warm was the Medieval Warm Period? To answer... Show more

Some evidence implies warm temperatures in several parts of the globe, including the North
Atlantic, northern Europe, China, and parts of North America. Other studies retain evidence that
the temperature conditions of certain regions, such as, South America, and other locations in the
Southern Hemisphere, were no different from those of today. It is often pointed out that the MWP
was a flourishing time in European history. This particular period saw the Vikings from the far
North travel and raid northern communities at will. To me, the exploration and colonization of the
New World, Iceland, and Greenland in relatively tiny vessels, manned only by oarsmen and sails is
the foremost factor in the telling of climate conditions. Those seas would not be traversal in this
day and age. Also, proof of warmer temperatures in northern Europe, can be found in records of
wheat production and vineyards at latitudes and much higher than today (Crowley,

The Greenhouse Movement Helps
There is a quote by a man named David Battisti, who directs the UW s Earth Initiative. Director
Battisti stated, average global temperatures for the past million years have never been more than 2
4 degrees higher than now. If greenhouse emissions continue unchecked, temperatures would likely
be higher by the end of this century than any time since the human species evolved. (Doughton). In
a nutshell, David is saying that there is no way to predict the height climate changecan grow to if
left unchecked. Since temperatures have never reached past a few degrees, how can predictions be
made to see what catastrophes may befall us in the event of temperatures reaching higher than they
have ever been? Today information will be presented to show what happening to our planet, then
more information will be given concerning statistics to show how living a green lifestyle can
benefit our environment. Earth is getting hotter. Almost every scientist agrees with this consensus.
In fact with the dozen climate models in use today, almost all predict average temperature
increases of about 3 11 degrees by the end of the century. This doesn t seem too bad though, but
keep in mind that it only took a drop of 10 degrees to encase much of North America in mile deep
glaciers during the ice age(Doughton). Earth heating up can result in many different national
calamities. One big disaster that can somewhat correlate with rising temperatures is wildfires. They
match up with rising climates for 2

The Great Mosque of Cordoda In Spain, Cordoba was the original center of Muslim culture once
the Umayyads of Spain assumed their title as caliphs and Cordoba became their capital. The Great
Mosque of Cordoba is a hypostyle mosque that may be considered as the purest of all Arabic
architecture and even though the construction of this Mosque is based on a converted Visigoth

Marxism In The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath tells the bitter story of the Joad family as it struggles to survive and to
maintain its dignity in the middle of the Great Depression. But it is also the story of the social
class of people like the Joads, tenant farmers who have lost their land and decide to move to
California in hope of finding a better life. John Steinbeckwrote The Grapes of Wrath, in 1939, amid
the Great Depression, in response to the enduring he saw of individuals with disadvantages. He
wrote regarding Oklahomans that were incapable to continue farming since of the disastrous
climate conditions. Particularly, he wrote about the Joad family having to emigrate to California.
Steinbeck composed the novel from a Marxist point of view. Steinbeck is supporting Marxist
thoughts by delineating the distinction of individuals included in capitalism, as the owners take
advantage of the helpless.
In the Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck uses Marxist beliefs to plot the long battle
experienced by the Joad family. The Joads encounters illustrate that the Bourgeoise mishandle their

Food Waste By John Oliver
Sustainable food is extremely important in preserving the planet. By completing my portfolio
activities I learned many different ways food consumption can be made more sustainable. My
activities included volunteering at the Sustainable Food Center and the UT Microfarm, making a
sustainable seafood list, visiting the Triangle Farmer s Market, and watching Food Waste. For my
first unit I created a sustainable seafood list ranking items from most sustainable to least
sustainable. I then visited a local seafood market evaluating the items in terms of sustainability.
During my research and creation I learned that organisms that are plentiful, low in mercury, and
harvested in eco friendly ways resulting in low by catch. An example of an unsustainable seafood
item is Bluefin Tuna because they are endangered, high in mercury, and are captured in non eco
friendly ways. The seafood market sold a variety... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oliver discusses the epidemic of Americans wasting immense amounts of perfectly consumable
food. The film makes several key claims including 40% of all food produced in the U.S. never
gets eaten, 49.1 million people lived in food insecure households in 2013, and 91% of
consumers reported throwing out food past it s sell by date out of concerns for public safety.
The film also talks about how food waste accumulation in landfills produces methane gas. This
unit relates to the sustainability of food because by limiting food waste we reduce the demand
for natural resources involved in producing food, provide fresh/ healthy food for low income
families, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Limiting food waste also reduces the amount of
land used for production. Food waste is very important the concept of sustainability. If we limit
food waste we ensure that future generations will have enough food to live and reduces green

Gulf Of Tonkin Research Paper
Many people believe that the Gulf of Tonkin Incident is responsible for increased U.S. escalation in
Vietnam. President Johnson and his administration claimed that the incident involved unprovoked
attacks on U.S. destroyers (Herring, 165). People had questioned what had actually occurred even
back then. I believe the Johnson administration was looking for a reason to escalate American
involvement and that the Gulf of Tonkin Incident provided the perfect opportunity. American policy
in South Vietnam was not as effective as many had thought. I do not believe the Gulf of Tonkin
Incident itself incited U.S. escalation but rather the erroneous information about what had actually
occurred. Following the first attack on U.S. ships by North Vietnamese patrol boats, the
Whitehouse claimed that a second attack had occurred, ordered airstrikes in retaliation, and then
used the incident to justify the president s use of U.S. military forces in Vietnam (Duiker, 165).
This would seem reasonable on the surface because not many people were aware of what had

you re doing and what you re getting into. If you really want to get into football gambling, it would
be best if you would read about the subject matter first before you start betting on any team.
The internet is teeming with information on the subject. You can search for articles and websites
that would be able to help you learn more about the subject. This would also let you in on some
tricks of the trade. The more knowledge that you have the more chances you get of making a
good bet. Also, you will be steered away from false information or money scalpers online. And of
course, that would be a good thing for you and your money. ... Show more content on

These predictions would tell them about what exactly could happen in the next game. Based on
these predictions, they can then place a wager on the team that they think would win. Of course,
nobody can really predict the outcome of a game. Handicappers, or people who give game
predictions, tell their clients that there are no guarantees that their predictions are really going to
happen. So it will be up to you if you re going to bet according to their predictions.
These handicappers are taking a great deal of effort and putting in a lot of time to study each and
every player s move. They also take a look at the teams performances. The handicapper bases his
predictions about the outcome of the game on these factors. They would do a matchup of the team
s strengths and weaknesses and also take into consideration their performance in the previous
games. It really is a tough job, and the handicappers are doing it for

Mary Rowlandson and Benjamin Franklin s Storied of...
Mary Rowlandson: A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson
And Benjamin Franklin: The Autobiography Every literature story has an importance of a great
leader or a survivor. There are apparent themes in this captivity narrative such as the doubt of life.
The story of Mary Rowlandson and Benjamin Franklin wrote a narrative of their life experience and
their adventure. They learn from the attack that no one is guaranteed life, and life can be short.
There are clear contrast and comparison between these two individuals connected to their
observation of God. In the colonial American time, religion was a vital part of life.

Franklin, stated, I had been religiously educated , I seldom attended any public Worship (562).
Franklin formed his own fate in relation with his belief. The ideas he mission were righteousness,
justice and belief that happiness may be found in worldly values. I believe both individual were
establishing an identity free from the native land, although Rowlandson was taking away. In
Franklin s Autobiography, he was seeking to establish a new identity for the new world. This
parallels Rowlandson in that she at the end of her captivity has evolved into a new person.
Although Rowlandson has placed her fate more in God s hand. Franklin suggested that man
controls his own destiny but also makes reference throughout to God. I believe he must deal with
his excessive pride, even as Rowlandson has dealt with her own vanity.
Despite the cultural differences I learned a lot about Rowlandson and Franklin s time. The
Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin was not an easy book to read. Benjamin Franklin was a
remarkable man. He was a printer, author, politician and an inventor (PECO). Because of
Franklins, this essay is being written about one of the men responsible for America s success
today. The captivity narratives of Rowlandson served to define goodness and women s proper
devotion to their religion, and to give a religious message about the value of faith in times of harsh
conditions. The belief of Rowlandson and Franklin in God did help to form our

Essay on Johnson and Johnson
After reviewing the Johnson amp; Johnson website I discovered that they had several of the 12
Dimensions of Business Innovation. Of the 12 dimensions, I will identify 6 that I found on the
website.
The first one that immediately stood out would be the Offerings dimension, which is defined as
developing innovative products and services (Kotler amp; Keller, p. 46). One example of the
offerings dimension would be Lubriderm s 3 in 1 Men s Lotion. This lotion is specialized with
minerals and moisturizers that are specifically found in men s skin. The lotion can be used as a
body lotion, a face lotion and a post shave lotion.

organizations that use or consume a company s offerings to satisfy certain needs (Sawhney,

largest consumer health company and the world s eighth largest pharmaceutical company, thus it is
no surprise that they service customers in need of health and well being ( Johnson amp; Johnson,
2012). Finally, the sixth dimension I found was the Supply Chain dimension, which is defined as
thinking differently about sourcing and fulfillment (Kotler amp; Keller, p. 47). Johnson amp;
Johnson focuses on promoting sustainability throughout their supply chain through their
Procurement Sustainability Initiative, their Carbon Disclosure Project and their Pharmaceutical
Supply Chain Initiative. The Procurement Sustainability Initiative is their process of evaluating
several non financial performance factors when contracting with suppliers, seeking to partner with
those who are aligned with their sustainability commitments ( Johnson amp; Johnson, 2012). Their
Carbon Disclosure Project encourages their supply chain partners to participate in the CSP s Supply

Chiropractic practice is a health profession that focuses on diagnosing and treating the
musculoskeletal system through manipulation of the spine or hands on adjustment. Some
chiropractors provide spinal adjustment or address sacral or pelvic alignment. Sacral relates to the
sacrum, which is the curvature region of the spinal cord. This allows for more room in the pelvic

Correlation Between Land Use Land Cover And Water Quality...
Why use correlation and regression in your work
It is very important in selecting the right kind of statistical, presentation, and analytical methods to
determine the relationships between land use land cover and water quality parameters. This is very
important because of the issues associated with spatial autocorrelation and non independence of
sampling site that often accompany research into water quality and land use.
Literally, autocorrelation is where a variable is said to be correlated with itself and it states that
pairs of subjects that are close to each other are more likely to have values that are more similar,
and pairs of subjects far apart from each other are more likely to have values that are less similar.
The spatial structure of the data in autocorrelation refers to any patterns that may exist in this
nearness or distant relationships. When data are spatially autocorrelated, it is possible to predict the
value at one location based on the value sampled from a nearby location using interpolation
methods. When autocorrelation does not exist, then the data is said to be independent.
Because of the qualitative nature of water quality analysis, there are a lot variety of statistical
analyses that can be performed on water quality data for reporting and interpretation purposes.
Though most of this statistics can be said to be intense, many inferences can be made from simple
descriptive statistics such as mean, minimum, maximum, median, range, and standard

The Debate Of Security Versus Privacy Essay
In 2013, a man named Edward Snowden leaked classified information from the United States
National Security Agency (NSA). With this, the public discovered that even if you re not doing
anything wrong you re being watched and recorded. The presence of a watchful government wasn t
anything new but the means of surveillancewas never fully disclosed by anyone. The biggest
question raised by the public was does our right to privacystill matter? . The NSA claims to be
doing this in order to protect the rights of citizens, not dissipate them. The debate of security
versus privacy has evolved into a choice between liberty and totalitarian control. Even if tyranny
arises due to a global threat, once it s established, the people are without a voice. Liberty requires
security without intrusion, security plus privacy. Even if people have nothing to hide, they should
hold onto their rights to privacy as it is better than submitting themselves to the will of an absolute
power. For free will is the most valuable characteristic of life on earth because with it, we act as
individuals rather than subservient drones. in fiction. George Orwell s 1984 introduces the concept
of Big Brother, referring to the omnipotence of government surveillance. The framing of Big
Brother represents government surveillance at its worst; Any defection from the norm will result in
a person being tortured into submission. In reality, this form of blatant government surveillance will

Beowulf Is The Hero Of All Heroes
I m writing about ancient heroes and whether or not they can be heroes at the present day
time.im going to tell you about their pros as in good things about them and their cons as in bad
things. I will also choose one modern day hero to come pare my ancient hero to and tell you where
he from either a movie or a comic book.
Beowulf is my ancient hero. I chose Beowulf because of all the qualities he has. Beowulf is the
hero of all heroes he is strong, and courageous. He would risk his own life to save other people
life s. He never back down to any person or thing and has never run any from a fight. He throws
his self at danger to try to get rid of evil and look for people to help. In this day of age, I don t
think he would be a good hero for a few reasons. Reason number one I think he is really too
arrogant to throw his self at ever one problem thinking he is going to fix it. I personally think a
hero should be asking them if they want your help before they make it worst. Or they can wait
till they see someone in danger then throw yourself in the middle. Reason two I think he s
arrogant will be the death of him because he think so mighty of his self. He will think he is
unstoppable and that s where his demise will come from. Reason three he not that smart he more
like a jock most heroes are usually smart and clever Beowulf isn t if he meant an evenly match

Democracy In America By Alexis De Tocqueville
The project that Alexis de Tocqueville undertook in writing Democracy in America was highly
ambitious, and became one of the most influential texts of the nineteenth century, and remains to
this day a classic in political science literature. Having witnessed the failure of France to
democratize, Tocqueville sought out to study a prosperous democracy. The United Statesof America
during the writing of this text exemplified stability and democratic governance, allowing Alexis de
Tocqueville to gain insight into making a democratic governmentsucceed. His travels and studies in
the United States ultimately led him to conclude that the transition toward a democratic
government and equality of conditions had developed strongest in America, though he suggests that
it is indeed a universal phenomenon and a perpetual historical tendency that could not be stopped.

Differences Between Fringe Banks And One Traditional...
In this paper, I will explain my experience with three fringe banks and one traditional commercial
bank. For fringe banking, I will be analyzing Money Mart, Xtra Cash and Loan Express Payday
Advance and for the traditional commercial bank, I will be investigating the Royal Bank of Canada.
For the tradtional bankI will be analyzing the differences in credit lines.
Firstly I will look at the two key differences between Fringe banks and tradational banks. One key
difference between Fringe banks and traditional banks is that Fringe banks do not provide the
full finanical services that banks offer. This is due to the fact Fringe banks do have large
revenues to cover the cost of operation. This lack of large revuene makes it so that customers
have to pay a higer interest rate to compensate for the operational costs. Essentially the interest
rate will be higher in order to cover for the cost of borrowing the loans. This is not seen in banks
as they have large revenues to compensate for those costs. A second difference between Frige
banks and the commercial banks is the credit score. Commerical banks require a 670 credit score
while fringe banks need a 540 credit score. This can be attributed to the types of customers the
respective types of banks are looking to attract. Fringe banks generally work with people who are
risky while banks work with people who are not risky. Fringe banks work with risky clintile
mailinly by helping them to achieve the payment by allowing them to

Teaching Learners Develop Their Students Oral...
The materials, activities, exercises, and digital tools in the project can help Chinese EFL teachers
develop their students oral proficiency. In addition, with authentic learning materials and speaking
practices, the project is designed to help English learners develop their communicative abilities.
English teachers in China may refer to this curriculum in designing their own lessons for oral
practice. English teachers in China can find some inspirations from this project when they want to
use some speaking activities. This project may benefit EFL or ESL teachers who are teaching in a
communicative classroom. EFL teachers, as well as ESL teachers, can use the activities in the
project to practice students oral English. Also, English teachers can use some exercises in the
project to assess students oral proficiency and design a curriculum for instruction based on the
assessments. Stein (1999) said that oral proficiency refers to the ability that helps people to
communicate effectively and accurately in the target language. English teachers in China, who
want to create an authentic learning environment for the learners, can use the authentic materials in
the curriculum or refer to the curriculum to design their own. By learning the curriculum in this
project, EFL learners may develop their vocabulary, English skills and technology skills. If they are

Code Of Vehicle Transmission Essay
The transmission in your vehicle is what allows you to shift from one gear to the next as you
drive. It is one of the most important components of your vehicle. Without your transmission, you
would be stuck in neutral, unable to engage your engine and get anywhere. As a new driver, there
are a few things you can do to extend the life of your transmissionby reducing the wear and tear that
you put it through on a daily basis.
Let Your Vehicle Warm Up
Whenever it is cold outside, you need to give your vehicle time to warm up before you get on
the road. By allowing your vehicle to warm up for at least five minutes on a cold day, you allow
your engine to get hot and you allow the fluids inside of your engine and your transmission to start
flowing. When you start moving too soon on a cold day, the fluid in your vehicle doesn t get the
time it needs to warm up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Revving up your engine like you are getting ready to jump off the start line is not good for your
transmission. This allows absolutely no time for the fluid in your transmission to start flowing and
lubricating all of its parts. When you rev up your engine, you force your car to jump into action
without giving it the time it needs to get ready.
Stop Before Your Reverse
Your transmission is responsible for shifting from one gear to the next. When you need to reverse,
make sure that you come to a complete stop before you throw your vehicle into reverse. You
should also make sure that you are stopped before you put your vehicle back into drive.
When you don t stop your vehicle before you reverse, your transmission has to leap from whatever
gear it is in to reverse. The same idea applies when going from reverse to drive. This process is a lot
easier on your vehicle when it is able to go from neutral to reverse. It wears down on your
transmission less. This small change in your driving style will extend the life of your

Compare And Contrast Africa And Lot s Wife
Lot s Wife and Africa are poems depicting the effects of the abuse of power and how the forceful
villains mistreat others due to their positions of superiority and trust. Lot s Wife shows how
under a tyrannous rule which holds no regard for personal emotions renders people either devoid
of humanity, Lot, or devoid of life, Lot s Wife. Africa demonstrates the chaos and terror involved
in invasion and how an overwhelming military force and covetousness can extirpate the magic
and God out of a place. I will argue that both poems show how excessive force and violence can
have a strong impact to both people and places as they circumscribe emotion and obliterate the
potential of a civilization. Lot s Wife indicates how unsettling and unnatural the presence of the
harbingers of caustic rulers can be. In line 1, the adjective just is used to describe Lot as he
trailed behind the Angel. Just is used with a touch of sarcasm as Lot is only just because he
follows the Angel. The verb trailed could have been replaced by followed or a verb which is more
indicative of any interest in following the aforementioned Angel. This suggests that Lot may not
want to go with the Angel. This engenders an aura of fear which is further developed in line 2, the...

TEAM ASSIGNMENT #1: Case Study Astral Marketing 42.211 B
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The main problem Astral Marketing is experiencing is a low level of
productivity, mainly due to employee dissatisfaction and low levels of employee motivation.
Employees are currently unhappy with wages and incentives, as well as general working conditions
at the company. As a result, employees are becoming unmotivated. Issues such as poor
communication skills, lack of employee empowerment, high turnover, and too low or too high
mental stimulation also have a direct impact on the low level of productivity (Robbins Langton

Procedural justice the perceived fairness of the process used to determine the distribution of
rewards is also defied by the company (Robbins Langton 2001, p. 170). Company records show
only one or two workers per week (have gotten) the $20 bonus over the past six months
(Schweitzer, p.3). The concept of procedural justice is also challenged through inequitable
contract distribution (assuming it can be regulated) at the company. Since the contracts are of
broad range, some contracts are more difficult to promote than others are, and the set wages and
bonuses do not reflect this inequality (Schweitzer 2002). Another issue is poor communication
skills, which result in both a lack of respect for supervisors and a poor level of colleague support.
Having friendly and supportive co workers leads to increased job satisfaction , similar to the
behaviour of one s manager (Robbins Langton 2001, p.108). The employees at Astral Marketing,
however, have poor relations with their supervisors, likely because the supervisors are not trained
on how to deal with workers as people (Schweitzer 2002, p.1). There are also poor relations
between employees due to a lack of support and understanding (Schweitzer 2002). Poor
communication skills also contribute to the lack of employee empowerment
at Astral Marketing. Empowerment, or giving employees responsibility for what

with her daughter, Emily. The memory was a painful one comprised mostly of the way the mother
was much less able to care for Emily. The forsaken of Emily demonstrates the importance of
physical and emotional support.
The mother was an invisible parent for Emily. Her reason for not being there for Emily was
because she was a young and distracted mother (Olsen 262). The real reason she was inattentive

Emotional support also plays an important role of Emily s well being. The idea mother suppose to
care, support, and value their children needs. Emily needed this nourishment. She needed her
mother to smile at her in order for her to feel a connection with the person that she supposed to be
able to depend on. Emily s mother did not know how to communicate with Emily. The mother
daughter relationship has an element of coldness, it lacks warmth. There were years she did not
want me to touch her (Olsen 262). Emily s mother inability to interact with her, leaves Emily
unloved and in return, she shall not express any love toward her mother. Emily s mother feels her
wisdom came too late (Olsen 262). With this thought in mind, Emily s mother shall never show
communication or love to Emily, therefore the relationship shall continue to be doomed.
Emily s mother felt like she was forced to neglect Emily. Her excuse was that the time was hard, it
was the age of depression, of war, of fear (Olsen 262). Although things were not under Emily s
mother s control, she takes responsibility anyway. In society, parents are thought to provide
physical and emotional support so that their children can advance through life with prosperity. This

The Formation Of Islamic And Western Law
Islamic law, or Shariah, is legal system governing the members of the Islamic faith. The formation
of Islamic and Western law has similar types of foundation structures that have supported what it is
today. There are also many different ways people can interpret Shariah and apply it to modern
society. Although there are strong influences that hinder the practice of Islamic law, abandoning the
law is not the best solution to countries in turmoil.
Islamic Law
The formation of Islamic law is thought to have been started after the first three generations of
Prophet Muhammad s death in 632 AD. After Muhammad s death, the Islamic community was
faced with confusion and constitutional crisis. Mohammad s predecessor, Abu Bakr, assumed the
role of caliph, but only ruled for two years due to an assassination. His main focus was to bring the
tribes back to Islam that had broke ties to Islam and Mohamad after his death. Succeeding Bakr s
reign was another companion of the prophet named Umar and under his caliphate expanded Islam
at an unprecedented rate. The rapid expansion of territory unified the Arab culture, Islamic religion,
and political aspects. This melting pot of private individuals brought legal concepts, and institutions
that were familiar to the native cultures to help develop Islamic Law, or jurist law. The jurists could
come together to implement a common law, since problems that were the same in nature, but
located differently geographically, often had different

Steroids Should Not Be Banned
Steroids By: Taci Miller For many years people have debated whether not to have steroids in
sports, or to keep them away from all competition. However some athletes use steroids anyway to
get ahead of the competition. These action can cause athletes being kicked out of a game or even
all future competition. Some people ask Why use steroids? Some athletes use drugs, where they can
train their bodies hard and then have their bodies recover fast. Different types of athletes use
steroids in different ways depending on what sport the athlete is partaking in. Depending on what
the athlete is trying to achieve they will combine certain drugs to give them the result that they
want(Knight 23). Another reason that some athletes may start to use... Show more content on

The use of steroids has forever changed the face of professional sports, making it a world fueled
by drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Roids, juice, hype, or pump are names that people may
use when talking about steroids. Anabolic steroids are different from steroids medications.
Anabolic steroids help build muscle, buy steroids can not help the ability and or skill of the
athlete. Genetics, body size, age, sex, diet and how the athlete trains determines ability(State Health
Department 1). Steroids fall into the category of ergogenic drugs. A drug that is classified as
orogenetic is a substance that can be used to improve athletic performance. Other ergogenic drugs
include prohormones, such as androstenedione and androstenediol, growth hormones, and
nutritional supplements. While these substances may act on the body in different ways, the goals
are the same: to gain muscles, increase endurance, and speed muscle and strength recovery.
(Knight 7). Athletes who are doping rarely take one kind of drug. More commonly, they will do
what is called stacking, which means combining a number of drugs in order to have the best
chance at success. Unfortunately, stacking can also lead to overdose and greater chances of
permanently damaging vital organs. (Knight 23). Even tho stacking is very bad for everyone, people

Essay on Pleasantville
The movie Pleasantville , written, produced and directed by Gary Ross, approaches a period in
America s history which subsequent generations idealise as a better and more stable society. He
portrays this time period of the 1950s as a time when people and life were less complicated; a
time when everyone knew their place in society. However, as the film ironically shows, this was a
time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly sexist. Ross demolishes this
illusion of the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects are gradually changed
from blackand white to colour. Ross shows that change is inevitable once a catalyst for change is
added to the ordered life of Pleasantville. Once David and Mary Sue begin... Show more content on

Throughout the romantic scene between Skip and Mary Sue, the viewer notices that Jennifer, as
her Pleasantville character, Mary Sue, is the original catalyst of change within Pleasantville .
Without her intervention change would not have been inevitable in Pleasantville . This
intervention, however, was not a one way process. The viewer also can note that Jennifer
originally hated Pleasantville but grew to accept it. This is clearly shown in the scene From the
Tree of Knowledge (01:10:00), where Jennifer puts on the coat, a symbol of Pleasantville s old
fashion dress. Supposedly because of the chill from the coming storm, she willingly puts on what
she originally first stated she would never wear. This act was the initiator of her changing
attitudes. Further by putting on glasses that symbolize nerdiness , reading a book and rejecting
an offer to go out because she has to study , Jennifer shows that Pleasantville is changing her into
Mary Sue. The arrival for the first time of a thunderstorm and rain to Pleasantville is a symbolic
technique by director Ross to imply that those who embraced change had their former selves
washed away. So Mary Sue, Bill and many of the teenagers become coloured people after the
storm. They become different people no longer normal residents of Pleasantville.
Bud is the second catalyst of change, yet most of the time when he does inflict change upon
Pleasantville he does so

  • 2. Motion Picture History Before World War I, films were being made mostly European countries and in Japan. When the war interrupted European filmmaking, however, the American film industry began to dominate the world market. In the years between 1917 and 1927 the silent film reached the peak of its development. United States had the largest filmindustry and American films dominated the international market. Germany and Japan still had some movie industries but mostly left to domestic. Many nations found film production as a matter of importance to national culture, sometimes by limiting on film imports. D. W. Griffith transformed early day of domestic production to an era of Hollywood s worldwide dominance. Major companies that dominated Hollywood were Fox,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lee De Forest, who exhibited brief sound films to the public in 1923, pioneered both of these developments. Although the public failed to respond to De Forest s sound films, electronics manufacturers continued to experiment with both sound on film and phonograph discs synchronized with film. In 1926, Warner Brothers released a program using synchronized discs; it included short talking and musical films and a silent feature, Don Juan , with a synchronized accompaniment. William Fox in 1927, and later that year he also released the first sound newsreels released a short sound on film comedy with spoken dialogue. Public acceptance of sound came on Oct. 6, 1927, when Warner Brothers presented Al Jolson singing and saying a few words in The Jazz Singer . The first full length all sound film was The Lights of New York , issued by Warner Brothers in 1928. The success of sound revolutionized the film industry. Theaters had to install sound projection equipment, and film studios had to find methods of soundproofing cameras and stages. Movement in most of the early sound films appeared static, because cameras had to be enclosed in soundproof boxes that were difficult to move. Eventually cameras with noiseless gears were developed; microphones were put on booms, or poles, which could be extended as needed. Early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Phenomenology In The Works Of Peter Zumthor Discuss how phenomenology has become a fundamental concern in the works of Peter Zumthor through both the formal and spatial characteristics of his design for the Steilneset Witches Memorial, VardГё, Norway Phenomenology in architectural terms can be expressed as: The philosophical study if the built space as it appears in experience. It however gets its root meaning from the Greek words_ phainГіmenon which means: that which appears , and logos which means: study . We can further bring this to more expressive wording and say; the philosophical (in Greek means love of wisdom) study of structures of experience and consciousness. Joseph Cavera Dr. Pankaj Lal Environmental Economics November 22, 2014 Social Cost Benefit Analysis and Itemization of On Site Sediment Remediation Introduction/Background Transport of contaminated sediments from major regional Superfund projects in the NY/NJ harbor corridor has been the preferred back end alternative after the dredging remedy is performed in order to clean these areas without generating higher costs. However, after dewatering, these sediments are shipped at great distances (to UT, OK, TX, ID) for final disposition at C landfills or for incineration. Corporate risk management in mishandling the Superfund sediment in transport such as a derailment can lead to long term corporate liability as well as environmental hazards from a spill from both the ecological and human health perspectives. As such, a new localized remediation method involving superheating sediments on site within a rotary kiln have recently been implemented in other areas, and, because of its beneficial use product generation, reduction of risk and gaseous contaminants, and removal of transport costs, it is now being considered as a viable alternative to traditional post dredge remediation procedures. This makes the people decide to remove their rings and never use them. The people and Sauron become bitter enemies while the One Ring remains in Sauron s possession. The One Ring is lost in the river when Isildur defeats Sauron. After passing through many hands, the One Ring is given to Frodo Baggins. This brings us to the beginning of the Lord of the Rings. The nature of the One Ring can be explained in three distinct ways. The One Ring is a personification of Sauron s power. It is a symbol of evil in general. It also is an object with a mind of its own. As the One Ring s creator, Sauron had placed a great amount of his own power into the ring for the purpose of controlling the other rings. The ring is an extension of Sauron s power. The loss of the ring does not destroy Sauron. Only the destruction of the One Ring can destroy Sauron. I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict our future. The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little human interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climateand the how s and why s. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. In a nutshell, David is saying that there is no way to predict the height climate changecan grow to if left unchecked. Since temperatures have never reached past a few degrees, how can predictions be made to see what catastrophes may befall us in the event of temperatures reaching higher than they have ever been? Today information will be presented to show what happening to our planet, then more information will be given concerning statistics to show how living a green lifestyle can benefit our environment. Earth is getting hotter. Almost every scientist agrees with this consensus. • 26. Correlation Between Land Use Land Cover And Water Quality... Why use correlation and regression in your work It is very important in selecting the right kind of statistical, presentation, and analytical methods to determine the relationships between land use land cover and water quality parameters. This is very important because of the issues associated with spatial autocorrelation and non independence of sampling site that often accompany research into water quality and land use. Literally, autocorrelation is where a variable is said to be correlated with itself and it states that pairs of subjects that are close to each other are more likely to have values that are more similar, and pairs of subjects far apart from each other are more likely to have values that are less similar. The spatial structure of the data in autocorrelation refers to any patterns that may exist in this nearness or distant relationships. When data are spatially autocorrelated, it is possible to predict the value at one location based on the value sampled from a nearby location using interpolation methods. When autocorrelation does not exist, then the data is said to be independent. Because of the qualitative nature of water quality analysis, there are a lot variety of statistical analyses that can be performed on water quality data for reporting and interpretation purposes. Though most of this statistics can be said to be intense, many inferences can be made from simple descriptive statistics such as mean, minimum, maximum, median, range, and standard ... The biggest question raised by the public was does our right to privacystill matter? . The NSA claims to be doing this in order to protect the rights of citizens, not dissipate them. The debate of security versus privacy has evolved into a choice between liberty and totalitarian control. Even if tyranny arises due to a global threat, once it s established, the people are without a voice. Liberty requires security without intrusion, security plus privacy. Even if people have nothing to hide, they should hold onto their rights to privacy as it is better than submitting themselves to the will of an absolute power. He never back down to any person or thing and has never run any from a fight. He throws his self at danger to try to get rid of evil and look for people to help. In this day of age, I don t think he would be a good hero for a few reasons. Reason number one I think he is really too arrogant to throw his self at ever one problem thinking he is going to fix it. I personally think a hero should be asking them if they want your help before they make it worst. Or they can wait till they see someone in danger then throw yourself in the middle. Reason two I think he s arrogant will be the death of him because he think so mighty of his self. He will think he is unstoppable and that s where his demise will come from. For fringe banking, I will be analyzing Money Mart, Xtra Cash and Loan Express Payday Advance and for the traditional commercial bank, I will be investigating the Royal Bank of Canada. For the tradtional bankI will be analyzing the differences in credit lines. Firstly I will look at the two key differences between Fringe banks and tradational banks. One key difference between Fringe banks and traditional banks is that Fringe banks do not provide the full finanical services that banks offer. This is due to the fact Fringe banks do have large revenues to cover the cost of operation. This lack of large revuene makes it so that customers have to pay a higer interest rate to compensate for the operational costs. Essentially the interest rate will be higher in order to cover for the cost of borrowing the loans. This is not seen in banks as they have large revenues to compensate for those costs. A second difference between Frige banks and the commercial banks is the credit score. Commerical banks require a 670 credit score while fringe banks need a 540 credit score. This can be attributed to the types of customers the respective types of banks are looking to attract. Fringe banks generally work with people who are risky while banks work with people who are not risky. Let Your Vehicle Warm Up Whenever it is cold outside, you need to give your vehicle time to warm up before you get on the road. By allowing your vehicle to warm up for at least five minutes on a cold day, you allow your engine to get hot and you allow the fluids inside of your engine and your transmission to start flowing. Africa demonstrates the chaos and terror involved in invasion and how an overwhelming military force and covetousness can extirpate the magic and God out of a place.
