Significance Of The Mustard Seed Parable
Significance of the Growing Seed and Mustard Seed Parables
The growing and mustard seed parables expound upon the soils parable provided earlier in the book of
Mark. Once the suitability of the soils is described, the human and divine roles in the process of
growing the kingdom of God are interpreted. Subsequently the inevitable harvest and abundant growth
of the kingdom of God is depicted.
Human Responsibility
As described in the growing seed parable, the sower has no divine identity in the text. This is
evidenced with the use of the term used, man , and the activity, or the lack of activity, by the sower
after the seed is spread upon the ground. The sower is described as sleeping during the night and
displays no activity during the day toward the seed (4:27). The lack of divine identity of the sower is
also evidenced with the provision that as the seed begins to grow, he himself does not know how
(4:27). It is not logical to argue that an omniscient God would not understand how a seed would grow.
Notwithstanding, it is logical to determine that a human sower does not ... Show more content on

Jesus connects the inevitable growth of the seed by the power of God in preceding parable and the
growth of the mustard. The growth of the mustard seed is symbolic of the spread of God s word and
the growth of the kingdom. Though at the time of the parable being taught the kingdom would seem
minuscule to the small rag tag group of disciples, inevitably the kingdom would grow to a glorious
stature with the climax arriving at Christ s second coming when the kingdom surpasses all others in
power, glory, and majesty . The mustard seed displays the small beginnings of the kingdom,
something the disciples being taught by Jesus would recognize, into the picture of the inevitable
eschatological victory of

What Happened Tod.b Cooper After The Hijacking, And What...
D.B Cooper What happened to D.B Cooper after the hijacking, and what is his true identity? Kylan
Soni Whitney High school Abstract The purpose of my study is to explore some of the different parts
of D.B Cooper life, and specifically find out what happened to him after the hijacking, and his motive
for committing the crime. After doing some research, I hope to answer my research question, which is
what really happened to D.B Cooper, and if he is still alive, what is his true identity. The goal of my

Even to this day, the D.B cooper case remains the only unsolved skyjacking in the United States. The
Theory that D.B Cooper Died Before people can start developing different theories about D.B Cooper,
we first have to ask ourselves whether he survive the jump. As the FBI investigates this possibility,
they discover more and more about the mysterious D.B Cooper. We originally thought Cooper was an
experienced jumper, perhaps even a paratrooper, says Special Agent Carr. However, after a few years
of research and investigation, the FBI soon discovers that this could not true. According to the FBI,
there was no trained paratrooper who could have jumped in the rain, in complete darkness, with a 200
mph wind, and survive. Even if D.B Cooper somehow managed to survived the jump, there was no
way he could have survived in the middle of the forest without any supplies during the winter time.
The FBI is almost positive that he had no one waiting for him after the jump. One reason why they
believe this is that there would have been no way for anyone to track his location because no one
could have known exactly where he landed. According to Agent Carr, he jumped at a random location
with no ground visibility. Finally after many years of investigation, Special Agent Carr came to the
conclusion that D.B Cooper did not survive the

Thucydides Summary
There is little doubt that Thucydides is regarded as one of the best historical writers for coming up
with his book, presenting facts and truth about the war even though he was a general in the Athens
army. By using a unique style of writing, the author was attempting a unique style which involved
being aggressively rational and giving an impersonal analysis of the history of his times being free
from religious influence.
The style used in writing the book is different because the author makes the war to be understood in
respect to human politics and power struggles that were taking place between the two warring
factions; Athens and Sparta. The style of writing is different from how Herodotus had explained the
Greek war against the Persians, putting too much emphasis on the religious side of the war.
Thucydides tries to be different by describing the human factors which made the Athens side to lose
the war. He points that Athens was more concerned about expanding than winning the war and that
most of its generals defected after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author advocated the theme of realism by illustrating how small cities such as Melian would have
benefited had they joined the Athenians. He notes that the cities were destroyed because they were not
realistic about their situation hence they would not have stood against the Athenians.
Throughout the book, Thucydides shows the difference in his works by using economics and politics
as the two main factors which used to determine wars at that time. Such a move was sin contrast with
how historians used to portray wars at that time. Historians usually used gods and their influence to
explain army victories but Thucydides explains that the cities with the most money and a centralized
system of government used to win such wars. For instance, the author explains that Athens had many
armies and was powerful in the sea, thus having an advantage over its

Primordial Soup
In 1924, the Soviet biologist Alexander Oparin proposed a theory of the origin of life, Oparin believed
that during chemical evolution of molecules that have carbon in Primordial Soup. The theory suggests
that life began in a body of water, resulting into the combination of chemicals from the atmosphere
and a form of energy to create amino acids which evolved into all of the species. Chemist Stanley
Miller and physicist Harold Urey conducted an experiment in 1950 to test Oparin s theory. They
mixed gases thought to be present on primitive earth such as: Methane, Ammonia, Water, and
Hydrogen. They then sparked the mixture to represent the lightning, and amino acids were produced;
the building blocks of proteins.

It is believed that it may have been a major step in cellular life due to the fact that RNA stores genetic
information like DNA, and catalyzes chemical reactions like an enzyme protein. In 1962 the
molecular biologist Alexander Rich, had given the idea in an article he gave to a volume issued in
honor of physiologist, Albert Szent Györgyi. This theory is supported by its ability to store, transmit,
and recreate genetic information, just like DNA.
Community Clay Hypothesis
In this hypothesis a scientist by the name of Dan Luo believes that clay hydrogels provide a way for
chemicals to come together and form complex biomolecules. Hydrogel is made up of groups of
polymer chains that suck up large amounts of water. The trapped chemicals react and form
biochemicals like proteins and DNA. We propose that in early geological history clay hydrogel
provided a confinement function for biomolecules and biochemical reactions, said Luo.

Essay about Global Health and Diabetes
Global health is defined as health problems, issues, or concerns that transcend national borders
(Institute of Medicine, 1997, p. 2). Koplan (2009) proposed a new definition for global health which
he described as an area for study, research and practice that places a priority on improving health and
achieving equity in health for all people worldwide (para, 7). Global health emphasizes transnational
health issues, determinants, and solutions from an interdisciplinary perspective and blends population
health and clinical care.

globalization and its effect on the prevention of Type 2 diabetes. Globalization is as a process of

is driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology (The Lewin

risk factors of poor diet, physical inactivity, and tobacco use which lead to four diseases
(cardiovascular disease, some cancers, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes) which cause more
than 50% of deaths worldwide ( p.2). (WHO, 2011). Diabetes and it complications causes major

Overview of the War of the Rif
The Rif Army
The war of the Rif, also known as the second Moroccan War, was fought from 1920 to 1926. Spain,
France and the Moroccan Berbers, of the Rif s mountain region, had joined forces to take control and
divide the country of Morocco into even parts. The reason behind this was because they wanted
power, like most imperializing countries strive for. What the invading force did not know was that this
was not going to be an easy task.
The Rifs, the indigenous tribes of Morocco had joined forces to fight this super power using guerrilla
warfare that devastated the Spanish and French forces. Led by Abd al Karim, the Rifs defeated the
Spanish on their initial invasion and took control of large amounts of European weapons (Pletcher, ...

Although the Spanish army had more than 140,000 soldiers on ground, they were no match for the
highly skilled Rifian army. Eventually the Spanish reservists had to call for assistance from the
Spanish army of Africa to aid them in this conflict. The Spanish army began to train with the French
army on combat tactics and procedures in which they eventually adopted, thus the Spanish Legion was
established in 1920 under the command of General Francisco Franco. As their numbers grew larger, so
did their reputation for being extremely ruthless, as they led a large number of offensive operations,
ravaging and devastating the country of Morocco.
The War
During the course of the war, the Spanish army in northern Morocco was defeated by the Rif army in
July of 1921. This day is now known as the Disaster of Annual . 8,000 soldiers and officers were
reported killed in action or had disappeared out of an initial total of 20,000 soldiers. The Spanish were
starting to be pushed back over the following five years due to the evolving tactics that the Rif army
was using against Spain. As the Rif army pushed east, they had captured over 130 Spanish military
forts. Towards the end of 1921, Spain had lost all of the territory they had gained during the initial
invasion in 1909. The remaining 14,000 Spanish soldiers fell back to one of the last remaining forts in
eastern Morocco Melilla which happened to be their largest military fort in

The Heart Essay
THE HEART The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s
circulatory pump. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and delivers it to the lungs for
oxygenation before pumping it into the various arteries (which provide oxygen and nutrients to body
tissues by transporting the blood throughout the body). The heart is located in the thoracic cavity
medial to the lungs and posterior to the sternum.
On its superior end, the base of the heart is attached to the aorta, pulmonary arteries and veins, and the
vena cava. The inferior tip of the heart, known as the apex, rests just superior to the diaphragm. The
base of the heart is located along the body s midline with the apex pointing toward ... Show more

Myocardium makes up the majority of the thickness and mass of the heart wall and is the part of the
heart responsible for pumping blood. Below the myocardium is the thin endocardium layer.
Endocardium. Endocardium is the simple squamous endothelium layer that lines the inside of the
heart. The endocardium is very smooth and is responsible for keeping blood from sticking to the
inside of the heart and forming potentially deadly blood clots.
Chambers of the Heart
The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The atria
are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The atria act
as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the heart. The
ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The ventricles
are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart.
The chambers on the right side of the heart are smaller and have less myocardium in their heart wall
when compared to the left side of the heart. This difference in size between the sides of the heart is
related to their functions and the size of the 2 circulatory loops. The right side of the heart maintains
pulmonary circulation to the nearby lungs while the left side of the heart pumps blood all the way to
the extremities of the body in the systemic circulatory

102 Year Old Time Capsule Research Paper
On July 1st, 2017 workers in St.Louis were taking down a monument and while doing that they
discovered a 102 year old time capsule. I think it would be hard to figure out what to put in a time

all the technology and new gadgets. For me, fashion, FADS, and technology would best describe what
life was like in the 2000 s. To best describe what our generation was like fashion, technology, and
FADS should be placed in a time capsule. For example, one of the fashion trends in 2016 mostly

Characters In Roald Dahl s The Black Cat And The Landlady
Christopher Lee once said, There is a dark side in all of us. And for us bad people, the bad side
dominates. I think there is a great sadness in villains, and I have tried to put that across. We cannot
stop ourselves doing what we are doing. All humans, have a dark side to them, people know they are
doing something wrong, however, they cannot stop themselves from doing the action. There is a
sadness behind the actions someone takes and maybe even a tiny ounce of guilt however, it doesn t
stop them from having the flaws. In strange and mysterious stories, it is easy to see the flaws and
faults of a character. In Roald Dahl s The Landlady, Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, and John
Collier s The Chaser , the character flaws are revealed throughout the story. In The Landlady, Billy s
flaw is in his absent minded behavior. Billy is not aware of the people around him and his
surroundings. He comes to Bath, England to look for a job. He comes across this house that is
compelling him, even though he originally wanted to stay at the Bell and Dragon, a hotel. However,
he is drawn to the house, which he doesn t find weird and he isn t confused why all of a sudden his
mind changes. He finds out that there is a room in the house that he can rent. The landlady looks at
him all over his body as if analyzing him, but he pays no attention to the fact the landlady is really

Similarities Between Chris Mccandless And Martin Luther
Rebels and outcasts are commonly compared due to them usually having several similarities. In doing
this you can find that two seemingly different people have quite a lot in common. This is most
certainly the case with Chris McCandless and Martin Luther. Although these two nonconformists are
different in numerous ways, they undoubtedly have their similarities. Even though they were born
hundreds of years apart Chris McCandless and Martin
Luther share several characteristics. Both McCandless and Luther left their families to pursue their
dreams. Both were originally going to attend law school but felt that their destiny was somewhere else

Both took huge risks to do what they thought necessary.
Chris McCandless and Martin Luther have clear similarities, but unsurprisingly they have even more
differences. One of the bigger differences is that McCandless rebelled against society as a whole,
while Luther rebelled against certain teachings in the Catholic Church.
McCandless s rebellion was mostly for himself; he did not intend to start a movement. Luther had
bigger things in mind when he nailed a copy of The 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg
Castle church (History.com, Martin Luther and the 95 Theses ). Having started one of the most
Lee 2 influential movements in European history, Luther had a significantly greater effect on the
world around him. They also had contrasting views of possessions. McCandless placed little value on
material goods. This was clearly shown by his simplistic lifestyle. Luther, however, did feel that there
was value in possessions. This is shown in his anger for the Catholic Church wanting money from its
followers. The two have not only dissimilar, but also completely differing points of

The R Assessment Is An Early Childhood Environment Rating...
The ECERS R assessment is an early childhood environment rating scale that assesses group
programs serving children ages two through five. The assessment incorporates seven categories that
focus on the various interactions that take place within a classroom setting. They include interactions
with environment, teachers, parents, and other children. The ECERS R emphasizes the inclusion of
children with disabilities and cultural diversity. For this assessment, the chosen facility is the
Cornerstone Center for Early Learning. This facility serves children six weeks to five years old, but in
this assessment, the designated classroom only included children ages three to five. The funding for
this facility includes a mixture of parent contribution and three government programs that include
USDA, Head Start, and State Tuition Assistance. Cornerstone is a private facility due to its tuition
costs and parent contribution. The teaching philosophy of this facility is to enhance the potential of
each child through a higher level of care. After completing the assessment, a predetermined formula
calculated a final score for each subunit. The category on Space and Furnishings received a final score
of 6.13, due to the facilities well organized and usable spaces. This category received high marks on
most of the subunits. One strength within this section includes the warm and inviting classroom, along
with its designated spaces. The classroom included areas for reading, blocks, art,

The reality that immigration policies and registration requirements create for undocumented students
is a grim one; despite their scholarly capability, thousands upon thousands of undocumented students
who have completed high school do not continue on with their education because of the lack of legal
paperwork (DREAM Act). This has been the story line for countless undocumented valedictorians,
like Grecia Cantu, who s dream of going to Baylor University to become a teacher was plucked by a
simple mandate of Congress (Smith). Despite having a presidential scholarship to Baylor University,
Grecia s future is hampered by her illegal status in the country and the inactivity of the DREAM Act
in congress, which is due largely to its brisk opponents. Critics of the legislation falsely advocate that
it grants preferential treatment to undocumented students (Malkin 1). In reality, the DREAM Act only
grants qualifying individuals with a temporary residency, a driver s license, and a work permit (Giving
the Fact). This allows the students who meet the criteria the same tuition rates as natural born citizens
and a legal way to work and drive in the country. Another resounding critic among the opponents of
the bill includes the common misconception that the DREAM Act will provide amnesty and forgive
the federal offense immigrants committed when they entered the country illegally (Smith). In truth,
only immigrants who entered the country during their youth, before age 16, are eligible for the
benefits of the legislation. Once they apply, they will have to fulfill the requirements of completing a 2
year college or serve a 2 year term in the armed forces to finally receive resident status, not
citizenship, after 6 years of proved residency (Creating Opportunities). If Congress allowed this
legislation to

part was about the next steps of Rakuten toward the globalization and Englishnization project. It is a
big challenge to the top management and all employees. However, there are already impressive
achievements in English skills acquiring. 3. Was Englishnization a good idea for Rakuten? What are
the costs/benefits of this policy? Englishnization idea is not only the good idea. It is inevitable step
toward the following development of the company on the world market. I think Mr. Mikitani s
background helped him to realize it and push the project forward. One of the very famous business

Thrifty-Tel, Inc. V. Bezenek Case Summary
Prior Court Cases
Thrifty Tel, Inc. v. Bezenek 1996
Trespass of chattels was first applied to the electronic context in 1996. The case Thrifty Tel, Inc. v.
Bezenek involved the illegal access of the plaintiff s computer systems. Thrifty Tel Inc. provided
customers with long distance telephone service. Customers of Thrifty Tel Inc. had their phones
programmed with an access code and a six digit authorization code. The six digit authorization code
directs all outgoing calls to Thrifty Tel Inc. carrier system and the calls would be handled from there.
Knowing both the access code and the authorization would allow a user to make unauthorized calls
without being charged for the service. The Bezenek family was able to gain the access code from a

v. IMS was actually a series of multiple cases where multiple marketing companies sent an estimated
amount of 60 million spam emails through America Online s computer network. The court ruled the
defendants access of America Online s database was both intentional and without authorization.
The second case America Online, Inc. v LCGM, Inc. revolved around the action of LCGM sending
pornographic website advertisement to customers of America Online. In addition to LCGM s use of
America Online s server, LCGM attempted to trick customers into opening the spam mail by altering
the spam mail to appear as if it was sent by America Online. The court upheld the previous ruling of
America Online, Inc. v. IMS, that sending spam email to customers of an Internet Service Provider
using said provider s computer system constitutes a trespass of chattels.
Current Case
EBay vs Bidder s edge was one of the first court cases where trespass of chattels extended to screen

The Pros And Cons Of President Grant
President Grant was the United stated 18th president. Many historians have spoken poorly about him,
calling him corrupt and ineffective. Even though many of those historians mention how he was no
good as a president, they never explain how and what he actually did to prove he was corrupt and
ineffective. Although historians such as Thomas A bailey, C.Van Woodward and Arthur Schlesinger
call him ignorant, the all time low point as well as placing him in the among the failures, he was
neither of them all he was doing is what any other president would of done. He was doing what was
best for the country and those historians did not see it that way. Despite the fact that many historians
agree that he was corrupt and ineffective he was neither of them, he was doing what was right for the
country, for the people and he was just doing what every other president has and would of done.
Thomas A bailey said, Grant was an ignorant and confused President, and his eight long years of
blunderland are generally regarded as a national disgrace. Clearly, Bailey was not looking at Grant s
accomplishments in the economic arena when writing this statement. C.Van Woodward described the
years in which Grant was the president as the all time low point in statesmanship and political
morality in our history. Woodward must have forgotten about how Grant held the country together
after the Civil War. Not only that but Arthur Schlesinger placed grant among the failures in his 1948
and 1962 presidential ratings.Historians should judge people in the context of their times, not before
nor after. All of these three historians missjudged Grant, because they judged him by how president
are now not how they used to be.All that grant was doing was putting the people and the country first
to help evolutionate Historians such as Bailey and Woodward believed that president Grant was
corrupt. The time that Grant was in office he did as any other president would of done, and in this case
he was not responsible for the corruption which occurred during the years he was in office. The
corruption was caused the the liberal Republican spoils seekers that wanted patronage for their own
political machines as well as for themselves. During the time

making all necessary disclosures and situations involving uncooperative clients. Briefly summarize
the differing responsibilities that auditors have in those two sets of circumstances.

necessary steps to ensure that anyone in receipt of the previously issued financial statements together
with the auditor s report thereon is informed of the situation and does not revise the financial
statements in circumstances where the auditor believes they need to be revised, the auditor would
notify those charged with governance of the entity that action will be taken by the auditor to prevent
future reliance on the auditor s report. The action taken will depend on the auditor s legal rights and

professional standards after learning of the error in AFS s 1985 financial statements? Explain.
Answer:
Based on the previous answer, I believed that Touche Ross did not comply with the applicable
professional standards which are International Standard of Auditing (ISA) 560. When the personnel of
Touche Ross discovered that the AFS s 1985 financial statements contained a material misstatement,
they attempted to persuade AFS to recall the company s 1985 financial statements. But, unfortunately

Marine Contamination and Pollution Essay
Marine Contamination and Pollution According to the United Nations Joint Group of Experts on the
Scientific Aspects of Marine Pollution (GESAMP) of 1972, marine pollution is ?the introduction by
man directly or indirectly, of substances or energy to the marine environment resulting in deleterious
effects such as harm to living resources, hazards to human health; hindrance of marine activities
including fishing, impairing the quality for use of sea water, and reduction of amenities?(Clark 3).
Since the beginning of modern civilization, man has continuously polluted the oceans. As more and
more pollution entered the Earth?s oceans and problems became evident, man has been given the
obligation to prevent further damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marine debris consists of discarded plastic, glass, and metal that does not easily decompose. Some
debris such as abandoned ships and old cars that sink attract fish because they form artificial reefs.
Some artificial reefs have been purposely made by humans out of sinking marine debris for the sole
purpose of providing sea life with an ecosystem. The pollution problem is more centered around
floating marine debris such as plastic. Because plastic floats it constitutes a threat to sea birds and
mammals who either eat it or become entangled in it. Each year 30,000 northern fur seals as well as
hundreds of thousands of other marine animals die due to being entangled in discarded
plastic(Johnston 63). These plastics when eaten can lodge in the intestines and stomach to block the
digestive tract to cause malnutrition and death. Not only does marine debris effect sea life, but humans
as well. Marine debris interferes with ship navigation and litters beaches along coastal water. Toxic
chemicals are extremely hazardous to the oceans. Three of the most deadly chemicals are constantly
running off land into water. These chemicals; DDT, PCBs, and dioxins belong to a family of industrial
and agricultural chemicals that do not brake down easily in our environment. When these chemicals
enter the ocean they are first absorbed by phytoplankton and zooplankton. These planktons are an
important part of a fish?s diet, therefore; fish eat

The Major Features of the Ontological Argument for the...
The Major Features of the Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The ontological argument for the existence of God was originally set out in eleventh century by St.
Anselm in his Proslogian. Anselm was a Benedictine monk, Archbishop of Canterbury, and one of the
great medieval theologians. It has received a lot of both support and criticism from leaning
philosophers. The argument is appeals to those who already believe in the existence of God than to an
atheist. The argument is entirely a priori; it seeks to demonstrate that God exists on the basis of that
concept alone, and show existence as an attribute/characteristic of God, in the same way omnipotence
and benevolence are considered to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So according to Anslem it is self contradictory to conceive of something than which nothing greater
can be thought and yet to deny that that something exists. The second stage is the idea that it is
illogical to think God does not exist. This idea is that because the highest possible thought of God is
the He exists, thus his existence is impossible. This is the concept of necessary existence, God cannot
not exist, and something which has necessary existence is something that exists in all possible worlds.
God is perceived to have necessary existence because God is eternal and created the world and He is
not limited by time, as He is outside of it. Thus God must exist in reality.
Later in the 17th century Descartes developed the argument further, he used his form of the
ontological argument to be a part of his argument that the external world exists. Descartes viewed God
as a supremely perfect being, possessing all perfections, which includes existence and thus God has to
exist. Descartes argue that an object had to posses certain qualities or else it could not be considered to
be an object, for example, triangles angles must add up to 180 degrees. In the same way thus existence
cannot be separated from the idea of God.
In the 20th Century there have been two main philosophers who have worked noteably on the
Ontological Argument, Norman Malcolm and Alvin Plantinga. Malcolm s

Human And Monkey Love Lauren Slater Analysis
Human and Monkey Love In Money Love, Lauren Slater explores the importance of life. Whether it
be animal life of human life, each are proven to be equal, but in different ways. In the chapter, Slater
even questions whether her daughter s life is more important than a monkey s, along with the human
population in general. There is a part to humans that makes us much more likely to value our own
lives over an animals . The question is: is there really more value to a human s life?
To begin answering this question, the reason why humans view human life as more important is
because we seem to have a piece of us that is different than animals. As Slater said, What, I wonder, is
the one percent of s that s not chimpanzee, the two percent that s not orangutan, the mere six percent
that s not the rhesus macaque? I d like to know. Is that where our spirit resides? She also talks about
the scientific portion of the animal vs human debate, in that we have a much larger brain than they
monkeys do. Humans look at their children and see something they love, and because they love them,
they take care of them. Meanwhile, animals have a natural instinct to take care ... Show more content

This is basically saying that there is more than science involved in the attachment of young to their
parents. Harlow was established that love grows from touch, not taste, which is why, when the mother

the memory of it, and recasts it outward. (Slater 138). Essentially, there is hardly any difference

Achieving Fit for Corporate Social Responsibility
Achieving Fit for Corporate Social Responsibility Evaluating the measure of corporate social
responsibility (CSR) is as much an attempt to ascertain ethical conduct of interactions with
stakeholders, as it is a management tool of to limit liability. A research summary of Corporate
Responsibility Best Practices, notes that 72% of NYSE Euronext traded firms surveyed have a formal
corporate responsibility programs in place (Corporate Responsibility Officer Association, 2011, p. 6).
Just 20% of the surveyed firms did not view corporate responsibility as a priority, while many firms
believed that ethical corporate responsibility was ingrained throughout their culture and functions.
Realizing added value from CSR is best achieved by fitting actions with motivations to concern both
internal and external stakeholders. Ronald Hill and Karen Becker Olsen find that CSR projects deliver
benefits to firms if there is a similarity between the corporate mission and the social initiative,
perceived motivations aimed at the good, and proactive timing (Hill Becker Olsen, 2005). Poor fitting
CSR initiatives are those the public perceives as implying that the firm bears fault and is reactive.
Press releases by British Petroleum regarding their commitment to the Gulf demonstrate both a
reactive and poorly fitted motivation initiative that is unlikely to merit praise from the community
harmed (BP p.l.c., 2012). Additionally, measuring the success of a CSR initiative that is reactive

The Snob by Morley Callaghan
1 IT WAS at the book counter in the department store that John Harcourt, the student, caught a
glimpse of his father. At first he could not be sure in the crowd that pushed along the aisle, but there
was something about the color of the back of the elderly man s neck, something about the faded felt
hat, that he knew very well. Harcourt was standing with the girl he loved, buying a book for her. All
afternoon he had been talking to her, eagerly, but with an anxious diffidence, as if there still remained
in him an innocent wonder that she should be delighted to be with him. From underneath her wide

They listened and shared this new world with him. They both sat up in their night clothes and, while
his mother asked all the questions, his father listened attentively with his head cocked on one side and
a smile or a frown on his face. The memory of all this was in John now, and there was also a desperate
longing and a pain within him growing harder to bear as he glanced fearfully at his father, but he
thought stubbornly, I can t introduce him. It ll be easier for everybody if he doesn t see us. I m not
ashamed. But it will be easier. It ll be more sensible. It ll only embarrass him to see Grace. By this
time he knew he was ashamed, but he felt that his shamewas justified, for Grace s father had the
smooth, confident manner of a man who had lived all his life among people who were rich and sure of
themselves. Often when he had been in Grace s home talking politely to her mother, John had kept on
thinking of the plainness of his own home and of his parents laughing, good natured untidiness, and he
resolved desperately that he must make Grace s people admire him. 13 He looked up cautiously, for
they were about eight feet away from his father, but at that moment his father, too, looked up and John
s glance shifted swiftly far over the aisle, over the counters, seeing

Complications Of Government Corruption
Introduction: If we read the News today, we could see that the government all over the world is
corrupt. According to US Legal, government corruption is when government leaders abuse their
political power to extract and accumulate for private enrichment (US Legal, Inc.)[1]. Technically, this
is a bad thing because when government leaders use their power for their benefit, it does not
necessarily mean that it is beneficial to the public and the society. To prove or disprove this argument,
I decided to run an econometric analysis to see whether government corruption hinders or helps
economic development. Method: There were three datasets I used for this paper. The first and the main
dataset was the dataset that contained the data on government corruption, which came from the
Worldwide Governance Indicators excel file posted on World Bank. From this dataset, I pulled out one
important variable called Corruption, which is a measure of the government performance. It ranges
from 2.5 (bad government performance/corrupted) to 2.5(good government performance/not
corrupted). We need to be careful when interpreting this variable because even though this is a
corruption measure, higher positive value actually means the government is doing better and less
corrupted. The second dataset I used was Penn World Table version 9.0[3]. From this dataset, I pulled
out the variables: average hours worked (avh), human capital index, based on years of schooling and
returns to education

The Importance Of Legitimate Deadlift
The deadlift is a weight preparing exercise in which a stacked barbell or block is lifted off the ground
to the hips, at that point brought down to the ground. It is one of the three powerlifting works out,
alongside the squat and seat press. Legitimate Deadlift shape begins with the weight on the floor.
Force the bar to your mid thighs and bolt your hips and knees. Restore the weight to the floor by
moving your hips back while twisting your legs. Rest a moment at the base and rehash. Your lower
back must remain nonpartisan to keep away from damage. Adjusting it amid substantial Deadlifts is
perilous for your spine. It puts uneven weight on your spinal circles which can harm them.

The Jade Peony by Wayson Choy
This passage is adapted from Wayson Choy s The Jade Peony and portrays the fear of a young boy
who has recently lost his mother. The reader is able to infer the situation from the passage despite it
not being clearly mentioned. The reader infers that the passage is about a juvenile boy who sits beside
his dying mother and is then taken care of by family friends, predominantly the Chins. The reader is
able to assume that the mother of the child has died, by the mention of how my [his] mommy s voice...
would never say again. This along with the hullabaloo and a sense of emergency projected in the first
paragraph indicate that the mother is no more. The rigid arms suggest that the mother s arms are dead.
The cacophony of the word rigid creates a sense of chaos for the readers. The passage is written in
first person narrative, providing the reader with meaningful insights from the boy who has lost his
mother. The author makes use of varying sentence styles. Simple sentences are used to merely narrate
the event Mr. Chin was shouting instructions. Mrs. Chin called my name. These simple sentences help
maintain a slow pace of the text, and create a dull tone to commemorate the death. Some sentences
like the ones in Lines 3 5 are fragmented, revealing the incident one step at a time. Choy makes use of
various symbols and techniques to provide reassurance to the young boy. Anaphora is successfully
used in Lines 7 ( Don t be afraid... don t be afraid... ) to reassure the boy

The site has served as Los Angeles Asian community for over thirty years. However, the cultural
center has served different historical periods. For instance, during the Second World War, Los Angeles
faced a labor shortage that made African Americans migrate from the south to seek employment. The
Little Tokyo has always gone through cultural changes. The Japanese have been into internment
camps as many southerners settled in downtown and the Little Tokyo was a vacant place that hosted
them. After the spring of 1943, the place became overcrowded with Southern African American
population who eventually took over the control of Little Tokyo. By the end of the World War II, the
Asian community had lost a lot of their land in downtown area. As an oppressed minority, they have

Women in Celtic Literature Essay
Most readers of the famed Irish and Welsh tales focus on the male characters and their great feats.
Celtic literature, however, features a full complement of female characters that deserve recognition;
from warriors and rulers, to helpmates and daughters. These women function as either their own
entity, or extensions of their male relations. All play crucial roles in their perspective texts, essentially
driving the action of the plot and setting into motion a series of events that affect the male characters.
Flirtation is one means to incite action. Rhiannon from branch one of The Mabigoni employs the tactic
in order to escape an unwanted marriage. The otherworldly Rhiannon appears to King Pywll and his

his quest to unite with his Cousin Arthur, and retrieve his bride. The characters Ceridwen and Macha
create action in their plots via their anger. Ceridwen, from The Mabigoni, actually births a cultural
hero out of her anger. She creates a magical potion that will give her ugly son knowledge, but learns
someone other than her son received the brew. In a frenzy she pursues the thief, Gwion Bach, in
multiple forms, eventually assuming the shape of a hen and swallowing him while he exists in the

+ Unsatisfactory (less than 14 points). The student does not know enough facts about the argument,
and does not use clear logic to support the facts they do know.
20 Points for Formatting
Formatting refers to the student s ability to communicate effectively within the paper. This refers to
grammar, proper formatting of the document, and syntax. A student also receives credit for having the
proper page length (2 3 pages). A paper with three or less mistakes will receive 15 19 points. A paper
with multiple minor mistakes will receive anywhere between 10 14 points, while a paper which is
presented too poorly to be considered a college level paper will receive anywhere from 0 13 points.
I cannot overemphasize the importance of formatting in the written assignments. Always make certain
to use spell checker and to reread your paper at least two times before submitting. You will be amazed
at the number of mistakes you will catch this way.
10 Points for Sources
Sources must be formatted properly in APA or MLA style. There is no set amount of sources needed,
but a student must remember that they should be able to back up each statement with a reliable source.
If you are using dates, statistics, or facts that are not common knowledge, it is usually proper to use a
citation. Also, the quality of sources will be graded. Remember, Wikipedia and other open
encyclopedias are NOT credible sources. Be careful what you cite!

Dierks Bentley Research Papers
Keeping it all cool and relaxed in a very demanding genre such as country music requires adamant
skill and incomparable passion. Not all country musicians have the guts to stay afloat and be resilient,
causing some of them to fall off the trail and never regained what they started anymore. Some have
succumbed into the notion that being known once and for a short period of time will suit them well
already, while for those who planned to stay as soon as their audience needs them, loving the craft and
being addicted to fame are key points for you to succeed. We have known bag shot names such as
Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Alison Krauss and Shania Twain to have dominated the country music realm,
and yet, we know in our subconscious that there are other great artists just waiting for us to unravel.
Take for example the admirable Dierks Bentley, a man who got the country music flowing through his
blood as if he s created just to serve this genre. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Detroit Riot Of 1943 Essay
The Detroit Riot of 1943 is a riot between the two racial ethnicities whites and blacks. During the
World War 2, this riot is said to be one of the worst riots that had happened during those times
(blackpast.org/Detroit race riot). Black people thought hey were heading to a guaranteed land where
they could seek for better future. However, white southerners didn t want black people to be in their
neighborhood; the white people brought their prejudices along with them as they migrate towards the
northern side. Because the arrival of newcomers, many suffered from being uncomfortable due to the
wartime rationing. Also, children were not given any care programs. At the same time, blacks were not
included from public housing. A lot of them lived in a home were indoor plumbing is not available,
yet they paid rent double than what white people are paying. Blacks faced many discriminations and
imbalanced actions by police. Basically, the main cause of this riot is because of the segregation and
the unfair treatment of society to black people.
2. James Baldwin talks about his dad s life story before his father passed away. He also talks about his
childhood and how he does in school. He also talked about how he grew up during segregation and for

where everywhere you go it is with you. That this disease will continue to live on as long as you re
alive. I can relate this to the author s feelings by assuming that he lacks confidence on which he is.
That Baldwin is not proud of being a Negro. His identity as a black person can never be erased. Lastly,

Women and Fiction in The Yellow Wallpaper
Women and Fiction in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper is a
deceptively simple story. It is easy to follow the thirteen pages of narrative and conclude the
protagonist as insane. This is a fair judgement, after all no healthy minded individual becomes so
caught up with hideous and infuriating wallpaper to lose sleep over it, much less lock herself in a
room to tear the wallpaper down. To be able to imagine such things as broken necks and bulbous eyes
in the wallpaper is understandable, irrational and erratic designs can form rational patterns in our
minds, but to see a woman locked inside of the bars of the wallpaper and attempt to rescue her seems
altogether crazy. Her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The windows are barred, preventing not only entrance but any type of escape. The heavy and
presumably immovable bedstead is needlessly nailed to the floor. The wallpaper, perhaps the most
overtly symbolic image in the story, is introduced as hostile as well. From a recurrent spot in the wall
the bulbous eyes stare out with vicious intent (7). She is surrounded by objects that symbolize women

refusal to let them into their circles. Female writers have had to assume pseudonyms, publish
anonymously, or simply wait until someone finds their genius and decides to publish it. Even
publication included heavy criticism and faultfinding. Like previous women authors, she lives in a
society of obstructions for female writers. If the house is symbolically a metaphor for the biased
literary world, her husband John is one of the oppressors. John is not effeminate in the least, rather he
is an archetypal male: practical in the extreme, he has no patience with faith, and does not believe in
irrational superstitions. He is the stereotypical male writer who has his eyes on large, tangible topics
such as death and war, and cannot fathom anything that is not felt and seen and put down in figures
such as love, birth, and in this case, insanity (3). If John symbolizes the biased male writer, it naturally
follows that he would not appreciate her

Is Aeneas An Epic Hero Essay
The Aeneid by Virgil is a story about true heroism in times of war. Wars have always offered many
opportunities for heroes to prove themselves. Most of the characters in the Aeneid are seen entering
the war enthusiastically in the hope of honoring and glorifying their names. However, Aeneas
demonstrates heightened responsibility toward the people he leads. At no point does he show
selfishness in the wish for his name to be glorified and honored at death. In essence, Aeneas is
committed to the destiny of his people. This uniqueness makes Aeneas an epic hero unlike previous
heroes such as Odysseus. Aeneas is duty bound and he follows nothing but fate. Consequently, he is
prepared to suffer any loss or harm as long as he reaches where fate directs him to go. Aeneas is an
epic hero because he is a dutiful servant to fate, he performs his duties patriotically, his instills
confidence in his people, and he is highly responsible for his family and his people.
Aeneas is focused on his goal throughout because he knows he is fate s dutiful servant. This aspect
readily comes out in his description as a man apart, devoted to his mission, a dedicated man. In
addition, Aeneas tells his loved one Dido that his duties are supreme to any other affair he might be
having. Aside from commitment to duty, Aeneas faces stiff opposition and enmity but he does not lose
faith on his fate (Griffith 309). His faith gains momentum when he sees the beautiful temple Dido
constructs for Juno.

Essay about Understanding Black Holes
Throughout the modern era of astronomy, a single type of celestial object has puzzled astronomers
more than any other. Black holes, whose existence was only verified in the early 1990 s, have
fascinated scientists ever since Einstein first proposed the theoretical concept in the 1930 s. A black
hole is an object so tiny, but also so dense, that it has the power to pull planets, stars, and even light
into its core, and ultimately destroy everything in its path. Over the past decade much has been
discovered about these enigmas of space and time; however, many of these recent discoveries lead to
more unanswered questions. Nevertheless, the basic life cycle of a black hole is now understood in
ways thought to be impossible only twenty years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other end of the spectrum, the death of a super massive star is one of the most brilliant displays
of pure power in the universe which includes an amazing light show which has no equal. A super
massive star is exactly what it sounds like, a star so big that it dwarfs our own star in every way. When
a super massive sun begins to run out of out of hydrogen it begins to collapse, but due to its immense
gravity and size, the collapse produces such an abrupt implosion that the last remnants of nuclear
fusion remaining push all the mass of the star back out into space (Britt, 2007). This can be compared
to someone jumping onto a trampoline whose elastic has enough elasticity to force one back into the
air. This occurrence is known as a supernova explosion, which is the largest explosion in the known
universe. A supernova explosion can even be seen from other galaxies, as scientists have done
witnessed from observations using the Hubble telescope. The star is so big, however, that it only
blows its outer atmosphere away, still leaving a massive amount of matter that is doomed to collapse
again, and this time it will be a one way ticket to oblivion. The super massive star finally collapses and
its own incredible mass crushes it s internally and now turns it into a neutron star. An average neutron
star is about ten miles in diameter, or the size of Manhattan. Although this

The Color Of Our Skin Daren
The color of our skin daren t portray the lives that we live on a daily basis, that is what s wrong with
today s society. Prior to 9/11 law enforcement officials had been using racial profiling on a daily basis
in their efforts to combat crime. With the attacks on 9/11 an enemy that had previously been invisible
became very much a reality. A reality that needed to be dealt with immediately using the only tools
that were available at the moment. Just because racial profiling was semi effective doesn t make it
right. It s what makes it wrong.

Nt1330 Week 1 Case Study Of EAP
This case project EAP researches EAP. What is EAP?
Introduction
EAP was originally created as an extension to PPP to allow for the development of arbitrary network
access authentication methods. With PPP authentication protocols such as Challenge Handshake
Authentication Protocol (CHAP), Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (MS
CHAP), and MS CHAP version 2 (MS CHAP v2), a specific authentication mechanism is chosen
during the link establishment phase. During the authentication phase, the negotiated authentication
protocol allows the exchange of information about the credentials of the connecting client. The
authentication protocol is a fixed series of messages sent in a specific order.
With EAP, the specific authentication mechanism is not chosen during the link establishment phase of
the PPP connection; instead, the PPP peers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Can Pro-diversity Television Program Influence a Change in...
American children, on average, spend more time watching television programs than they do engaging
with adults, siblings, or attending school (Feldman, Coats, Spielman, 1996). This finding introduces
the challenge for big networks to use television to positively guide children s social learning while
they are home from school. Studies have shown that even a brief exposure to television can produce
positive effects on learning during childhood (Rice and Woodsmall, 1998), and television
programming can also positively influence pro social behaviors and gender role concepts (Forge
Phemister, 1987, Mares Woodward, 2001, O Bryant Corder Bolz, 1978 and Signorelli, 2001).
Furthermore, many of the existing educational programs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the current study is to explore the reasoning behind failed criteria, and to better
determine how they may need to be adjusted. Although so many children s educational programs
attempt to influence attitudes relating to racial prejudice (Persson Musher Eizenman, 2003), the
amount of research that has been conducted to test the effectiveness of these efforts is extremely
minimal. To date, only two known studies have successfully caused children to demonstrate positive
changes in racial attitude as prompted by television programming. The first, Gorn et al. (1976) found
that their Caucasian preschool aged participants experienced a positive shift in attitudes towards race
after watching Sesame Street. In one condition, participants watched an episode in which White
children played with non White children, and in another condition only children from ethnic minority
groups played together. Most notably, participants who had watched either episode claimed they
would rather play with the non White children, whereas the participants in the control condition, who
viewed an episode with only White children, almost unanimously claimed that they would rather play
with White children (Gorn et al., 1976). In the second study that demonstrated television s ability to
influence children s racial attitudes, Houser (1978) found that children aged 5 9 who viewed anti
prejudice mini episodes (10 15 minutes) recorded less prejudiced responses on

Lucy Human Evolution
Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar in
Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24, 1974 by
the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided otherwise when one of
his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them were on the hot waterless plains
examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned out to be an arm bone fragments on a
slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were found, including a jaw, arm bone, a
thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously examined the limited skeleton and
calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was salvaged, ... Show more content on

Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human,
as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and the
capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were longer
than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in tree dwelling
primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or were they purely
evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate. Although Lucy s hip and knee
joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans, she was clearly able of walking on
two feet, although running like a modern human was undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size
and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern
ape, evidence to a relatively low quality, high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a
thicker waist, which most likely would have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and
the shape of her torso meant she would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human
when running. All these answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an
extraordinary picture of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking
around way before the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids
have deep rooted that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming

The Last September Essay
h bowen Published in 1929 The Last September written by Elizabeth Bowen highlights the difficulties
which faced the Irish Anglo genre. It was one of many novels published in the nineteenth and
twentieth century, based on Big House life in Ireland. Bowen herself is critical of the Anglo Irish
gentry as she believes that they are responsible for the downfall in the society. The denial of their
predicament and also their refusal to except change had caused Bowen to be censorious of them. She
expresses her points of symbolism, imagery and characterization using a variety of tactful techniques.
In the analysis these factors and techniques will be discussed in greater detail. She was to later
describe her writing as verbal paintings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author emphasizes the pressure that is now forcing Lois to marry and to produce an heir so the
property can be passed on for more generations. Lois no longer sees Big House lifestyle as viable and
therefore further adds to the confusion in which she is facing. Lois, as the only alternative heir,
complains that she feels trapped in a cocoon and longs for some other kind of existence. (Genet., J,
p149, 1991) The ante room in which Lois visits frequently serves no particular purpose and therefore
symbolizes that indeed the room compares to Lois feelings within herself of feeling lost and lonely. In
her life deprived as she saw it there was no occasion for courage, which like an unused muscle
slackened and slept (Bowen., E, p33, 1998) Another point which suggests Lois is lost and confused is
the fact that often spends time walking outside the boundaries of the house which symbolizes her need
to escape from this façade, the so called birthright of her generation. Fantasizing how life would be
with out having the responsibility of running the Danielstown House. Throughout the novel Bowen
uses the unusual technique of personifying the Danielstown house. It is a presence that becomes
frequent throughout the poem. (For in February, before those leaves had visibly budded, the death
execution, rather of the three houses... Had occurred on the same night.)

  • 2. Significance Of The Mustard Seed Parable Significance of the Growing Seed and Mustard Seed Parables The growing and mustard seed parables expound upon the soils parable provided earlier in the book of Mark. Once the suitability of the soils is described, the human and divine roles in the process of growing the kingdom of God are interpreted. Subsequently the inevitable harvest and abundant growth of the kingdom of God is depicted. Human Responsibility As described in the growing seed parable, the sower has no divine identity in the text. This is evidenced with the use of the term used, man , and the activity, or the lack of activity, by the sower after the seed is spread upon the ground. The sower is described as sleeping during the night and displays no activity during the day toward the seed (4:27). The lack of divine identity of the sower is also evidenced with the provision that as the seed begins to grow, he himself does not know how (4:27). It is not logical to argue that an omniscient God would not understand how a seed would grow. Notwithstanding, it is logical to determine that a human sower does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus connects the inevitable growth of the seed by the power of God in preceding parable and the growth of the mustard. The growth of the mustard seed is symbolic of the spread of God s word and the growth of the kingdom. Though at the time of the parable being taught the kingdom would seem minuscule to the small rag tag group of disciples, inevitably the kingdom would grow to a glorious stature with the climax arriving at Christ s second coming when the kingdom surpasses all others in power, glory, and majesty . The mustard seed displays the small beginnings of the kingdom, something the disciples being taught by Jesus would recognize, into the picture of the inevitable eschatological victory of ... Kylan Soni Whitney High school Abstract The purpose of my study is to explore some of the different parts of D.B Cooper life, and specifically find out what happened to him after the hijacking, and his motive for committing the crime. After doing some research, I hope to answer my research question, which is what really happened to D.B Cooper, and if he is still alive, what is his true identity. The goal of my analysis, is find the best theory of who was the most likely suspect to have committed the skyjacking. Introduction On November 24, 1971, a man by the name of Dan Cooper skyjacked a Northwest Orient flight that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even to this day, the D.B cooper case remains the only unsolved skyjacking in the United States. The Theory that D.B Cooper Died Before people can start developing different theories about D.B Cooper, we first have to ask ourselves whether he survive the jump. As the FBI investigates this possibility, they discover more and more about the mysterious D.B Cooper. We originally thought Cooper was an experienced jumper, perhaps even a paratrooper, says Special Agent Carr. However, after a few years of research and investigation, the FBI soon discovers that this could not true. According to the FBI, there was no trained paratrooper who could have jumped in the rain, in complete darkness, with a 200 mph wind, and survive. Even if D.B Cooper somehow managed to survived the jump, there was no way he could have survived in the middle of the forest without any supplies during the winter time. The FBI is almost positive that he had no one waiting for him after the jump. One reason why they believe this is that there would have been no way for anyone to track his location because no one could have known exactly where he landed. According to Agent Carr, he jumped at a random location with no ground visibility. Finally after many years of investigation, Special Agent Carr came to the conclusion that D.B Cooper did not survive the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Thucydides Summary There is little doubt that Thucydides is regarded as one of the best historical writers for coming up with his book, presenting facts and truth about the war even though he was a general in the Athens army. By using a unique style of writing, the author was attempting a unique style which involved being aggressively rational and giving an impersonal analysis of the history of his times being free from religious influence. The style used in writing the book is different because the author makes the war to be understood in respect to human politics and power struggles that were taking place between the two warring factions; Athens and Sparta. The style of writing is different from how Herodotus had explained the Greek war against the Persians, putting too much emphasis on the religious side of the war. Thucydides tries to be different by describing the human factors which made the Athens side to lose the war. He points that Athens was more concerned about expanding than winning the war and that most of its generals defected after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author advocated the theme of realism by illustrating how small cities such as Melian would have benefited had they joined the Athenians. He notes that the cities were destroyed because they were not realistic about their situation hence they would not have stood against the Athenians. Throughout the book, Thucydides shows the difference in his works by using economics and politics as the two main factors which used to determine wars at that time. Such a move was sin contrast with how historians used to portray wars at that time. Historians usually used gods and their influence to explain army victories but Thucydides explains that the cities with the most money and a centralized system of government used to win such wars. The theory suggests that life began in a body of water, resulting into the combination of chemicals from the atmosphere and a form of energy to create amino acids which evolved into all of the species. Chemist Stanley Miller and physicist Harold Urey conducted an experiment in 1950 to test Oparin s theory. It is believed that it may have been a major step in cellular life due to the fact that RNA stores genetic information like DNA, and catalyzes chemical reactions like an enzyme protein. This theory is supported by its ability to store, transmit, and recreate genetic information, just like DNA. Spain, France and the Moroccan Berbers, of the Rif s mountain region, had joined forces to take control and divide the country of Morocco into even parts. The reason behind this was because they wanted power, like most imperializing countries strive for. What the invading force did not know was that this was not going to be an easy task. The Rifs, the indigenous tribes of Morocco had joined forces to fight this super power using guerrilla warfare that devastated the Spanish and French forces. As their numbers grew larger, so did their reputation for being extremely ruthless, as they led a large number of offensive operations, ravaging and devastating the country of Morocco. The War During the course of the war, the Spanish army in northern Morocco was defeated by the Rif army in July of 1921. This day is now known as the Disaster of Annual . 8,000 soldiers and officers were reported killed in action or had disappeared out of an initial total of 20,000 soldiers. The Spanish were starting to be pushed back over the following five years due to the evolving tactics that the Rif army was using against Spain. As the Rif army pushed east, they had captured over 130 Spanish military forts. Towards the end of 1921, Spain had lost all of the territory they had gained during the initial invasion in 1909. The remaining 14,000 Spanish soldiers fell back to one of the last remaining forts in eastern Morocco Melilla which happened to be their largest military fort in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Heart Essay THE HEART The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a closed fist that functions as the body s circulatory pump. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and delivers it to the lungs for oxygenation before pumping it into the various arteries (which provide oxygen and nutrients to body tissues by transporting the blood throughout the body). The heart is located in the thoracic cavity medial to the lungs and posterior to the sternum. On its superior end, the base of the heart is attached to the aorta, pulmonary arteries and veins, and the vena cava. The inferior tip of the heart, known as the apex, rests just superior to the diaphragm. The base of the heart is located along the body s midline with the apex pointing toward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Myocardium makes up the majority of the thickness and mass of the heart wall and is the part of the heart responsible for pumping blood. Below the myocardium is the thin endocardium layer. Endocardium. Endocardium is the simple squamous endothelium layer that lines the inside of the heart. The endocardium is very smooth and is responsible for keeping blood from sticking to the inside of the heart and forming potentially deadly blood clots. Chambers of the Heart The heart contains 4 chambers: the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. The atria are smaller than the ventricles and have thinner, less muscular walls than the ventricles. The atria act as receiving chambers for blood, so they are connected to the veins that carry blood to the heart. The ventricles are the larger, stronger pumping chambers that send blood out of the heart. The ventricles are connected to the arteries that carry blood away from the heart. The chambers on the right side of the heart are smaller and have less myocardium in their heart wall when compared to the left side of the heart. This difference in size between the sides of the heart is related to their functions and the size of the 2 circulatory loops. The right side of the heart maintains pulmonary circulation to the nearby lungs while the left side of the heart pumps blood all the way to the extremities of the body in the systemic circulatory ... All humans, have a dark side to them, people know they are doing something wrong, however, they cannot stop themselves from doing the action. There is a sadness behind the actions someone takes and maybe even a tiny ounce of guilt however, it doesn t stop them from having the flaws. The reality that immigration policies and registration requirements create for undocumented students is a grim one; despite their scholarly capability, thousands upon thousands of undocumented students who have completed high school do not continue on with their education because of the lack of legal paperwork (DREAM Act). This has been the story line for countless undocumented valedictorians, like Grecia Cantu, who s dream of going to Baylor University to become a teacher was plucked by a simple mandate of Congress (Smith). Despite having a presidential scholarship to Baylor University, Grecia s future is hampered by her illegal status in the country and the inactivity of the DREAM Act in congress, which is due largely to its brisk opponents. Critics of the legislation falsely advocate that it grants preferential treatment to undocumented students (Malkin 1). In reality, the DREAM Act only grants qualifying individuals with a temporary residency, a driver s license, and a work permit (Giving the Fact). This allows the students who meet the criteria the same tuition rates as natural born citizens and a legal way to work and drive in the country. Another resounding critic among the opponents of the bill includes the common misconception that the DREAM Act will provide amnesty and forgive the federal offense immigrants committed when they entered the country illegally (Smith). In truth, only immigrants who entered the country during their youth, before age 16, are eligible for the benefits of the legislation. Some debris such as abandoned ships and old cars that sink attract fish because they form artificial reefs. Some artificial reefs have been purposely made by humans out of sinking marine debris for the sole purpose of providing sea life with an ecosystem. The pollution problem is more centered around floating marine debris such as plastic. Because plastic floats it constitutes a threat to sea birds and mammals who either eat it or become entangled in it. Each year 30,000 northern fur seals as well as hundreds of thousands of other marine animals die due to being entangled in discarded plastic(Johnston 63). The Major Features of the Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The ontological argument for the existence of God was originally set out in eleventh century by St. Anselm in his Proslogian. Anselm was a Benedictine monk, Archbishop of Canterbury, and one of the great medieval theologians. It has received a lot of both support and criticism from leaning philosophers. The argument is appeals to those who already believe in the existence of God than to an atheist. The argument is entirely a priori; it seeks to demonstrate that God exists on the basis of that concept alone, and show existence as an attribute/characteristic of God, in the same way omnipotence and benevolence are considered to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So according to Anslem it is self contradictory to conceive of something than which nothing greater can be thought and yet to deny that that something exists. The second stage is the idea that it is illogical to think God does not exist. This idea is that because the highest possible thought of God is the He exists, thus his existence is impossible. This is the concept of necessary existence, God cannot not exist, and something which has necessary existence is something that exists in all possible worlds. God is perceived to have necessary existence because God is eternal and created the world and He is not limited by time, as He is outside of it. Thus God must exist in reality. Later in the 17th century Descartes developed the argument further, he used his form of the ontological argument to be a part of his argument that the external world exists. Descartes viewed God as a supremely perfect being, possessing all perfections, which includes existence and thus God has to exist. Descartes argue that an object had to posses certain qualities or else it could not be considered to be an object, for example, triangles angles must add up to 180 degrees. In the same way thus existence cannot be separated from the idea of God. Whether it be animal life of human life, each are proven to be equal, but in different ways. There is a part to humans that makes us much more likely to value our own lives over an animals . The question is: is there really more value to a human s life? To begin answering this question, the reason why humans view human life as more important is because we seem to have a piece of us that is different than animals. • 31. Complications Of Government Corruption Introduction: If we read the News today, we could see that the government all over the world is corrupt. According to US Legal, government corruption is when government leaders abuse their political power to extract and accumulate for private enrichment (US Legal, Inc.)[1]. Technically, this is a bad thing because when government leaders use their power for their benefit, it does not necessarily mean that it is beneficial to the public and the society. To prove or disprove this argument, I decided to run an econometric analysis to see whether government corruption hinders or helps economic development. Method: There were three datasets I used for this paper. The first and the main dataset was the dataset that contained the data on government corruption, which came from the Worldwide Governance Indicators excel file posted on World Bank. From this dataset, I pulled out one important variable called Corruption, which is a measure of the government performance. It ranges from 2.5 (bad government performance/corrupted) to 2.5(good government performance/not corrupted). We need to be careful when interpreting this variable because even though this is a corruption measure, higher positive value actually means the government is doing better and less corrupted. The second dataset I used was Penn World Table version 9.0[3]. From this dataset, I pulled out the variables: average hours worked (avh), human capital index, based on years of schooling and returns to education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Jade Peony by Wayson Choy This passage is adapted from Wayson Choy s The Jade Peony and portrays the fear of a young boy who has recently lost his mother. The reader is able to infer the situation from the passage despite it not being clearly mentioned. The reader infers that the passage is about a juvenile boy who sits beside his dying mother and is then taken care of by family friends, predominantly the Chins. The reader is able to assume that the mother of the child has died, by the mention of how my [his] mommy s voice... would never say again. This along with the hullabaloo and a sense of emergency projected in the first paragraph indicate that the mother is no more. The rigid arms suggest that the mother s arms are dead. The cacophony of the word rigid creates a sense of chaos for the readers. The passage is written in first person narrative, providing the reader with meaningful insights from the boy who has lost his mother. The author makes use of varying sentence styles. Simple sentences are used to merely narrate the event Mr. Chin was shouting instructions. Mrs. Chin called my name. These simple sentences help maintain a slow pace of the text, and create a dull tone to commemorate the death. Some sentences like the ones in Lines 3 5 are fragmented, revealing the incident one step at a time. Choy makes use of various symbols and techniques to provide reassurance to the young boy. Anaphora is successfully used in Lines 7 ( Don t be afraid... don t be afraid... ) to reassure the boy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the characters in the Aeneid are seen entering the war enthusiastically in the hope of honoring and glorifying their names. However, Aeneas demonstrates heightened responsibility toward the people he leads. At no point does he show selfishness in the wish for his name to be glorified and honored at death. In essence, Aeneas is committed to the destiny of his people. This uniqueness makes Aeneas an epic hero unlike previous heroes such as Odysseus. Aeneas is duty bound and he follows nothing but fate. Consequently, he is prepared to suffer any loss or harm as long as he reaches where fate directs him to go. Aeneas is an epic hero because he is a dutiful servant to fate, he performs his duties patriotically, his instills confidence in his people, and he is highly responsible for his family and his people. Aeneas is focused on his goal throughout because he knows he is fate s dutiful servant. This aspect readily comes out in his description as a man apart, devoted to his mission, a dedicated man. When a super massive sun begins to run out of out of hydrogen it begins to collapse, but due to its immense gravity and size, the collapse produces such an abrupt implosion that the last remnants of nuclear fusion remaining push all the mass of the star back out into space (Britt, 2007). Studies have shown that even a brief exposure to television can produce positive effects on learning during childhood (Rice and Woodsmall, 1998), and television programming can also positively influence pro social behaviors and gender role concepts (Forge Phemister, 1987, Mares Woodward, 2001, O Bryant Corder Bolz, 1978 and Signorelli, 2001). Furthermore, many of the existing educational programs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of the current study is to explore the reasoning behind failed criteria, and to better determine how they may need to be adjusted. Although so many children s educational programs attempt to influence attitudes relating to racial prejudice (Persson Musher Eizenman, 2003), the amount of research that has been conducted to test the effectiveness of these efforts is extremely minimal. To date, only two known studies have successfully caused children to demonstrate positive changes in racial attitude as prompted by television programming. The first, Gorn et al. (1976) found that their Caucasian preschool aged participants experienced a positive shift in attitudes towards race after watching Sesame Street. In one condition, participants watched an episode in which White children played with non White children, and in another condition only children from ethnic minority groups played together. Most notably, participants who had watched either episode claimed they would rather play with the non White children, whereas the participants in the control condition, who viewed an episode with only White children, almost unanimously claimed that they would rather play with White children (Gorn et al., 1976). In the second study that demonstrated television s ability to influence children s racial attitudes, Houser (1978) found that children aged 5 9 who viewed anti prejudice mini episodes (10 15 minutes) recorded less prejudiced responses on ... • 49. Lucy Human Evolution Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar in Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24, 1974 by the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided otherwise when one of his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them were on the hot waterless plains examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned out to be an arm bone fragments on a slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were found, including a jaw, arm bone, a thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously examined the limited skeleton and calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was salvaged, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human, as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and the capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were longer than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in tree dwelling primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or were they purely evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate. Although Lucy s hip and knee joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans, she was clearly able of walking on two feet, although running like a modern human was undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern ape, evidence to a relatively low quality, high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a thicker waist, which most likely would have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and the shape of her torso meant she would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human when running. All these answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an extraordinary picture of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking around way before the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids have deep rooted that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Last September Essay h bowen Published in 1929 The Last September written by Elizabeth Bowen highlights the difficulties which faced the Irish Anglo genre. It was one of many novels published in the nineteenth and twentieth century, based on Big House life in Ireland. Bowen herself is critical of the Anglo Irish gentry as she believes that they are responsible for the downfall in the society. The denial of their predicament and also their refusal to except change had caused Bowen to be censorious of them. She expresses her points of symbolism, imagery and characterization using a variety of tactful techniques. In the analysis these factors and techniques will be discussed in greater detail. She was to later describe her writing as verbal paintings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author emphasizes the pressure that is now forcing Lois to marry and to produce an heir so the property can be passed on for more generations. Lois no longer sees Big House lifestyle as viable and therefore further adds to the confusion in which she is facing. Lois, as the only alternative heir, complains that she feels trapped in a cocoon and longs for some other kind of existence. (Genet., J, p149, 1991) The ante room in which Lois visits frequently serves no particular purpose and therefore symbolizes that indeed the room compares to Lois feelings within herself of feeling lost and lonely. In her life deprived as she saw it there was no occasion for courage, which like an unused muscle slackened and slept (Bowen., E, p33, 1998) Another point which suggests Lois is lost and confused is the fact that often spends time walking outside the boundaries of the house which symbolizes her need to escape from this façade, the so called birthright of her generation. Fantasizing how life would be with out having the responsibility of running the Danielstown House. Throughout the novel Bowen uses the unusual technique of personifying the Danielstown house. It is a presence that becomes frequent throughout the poem. (For in February, before those leaves had visibly budded, the death execution, rather of the three houses... Had occurred on the same night.) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
