Introduction Of all the topics covered thus far in my coursework at National University, I found the
readings in differentiated education to be of the greatest practical value. This is because I teach middle
school in a school where learning disabled students are included in regular classes. In my classroom, I

Orphan Train Writing Style
When I first began reading Kline s novel, Orphan Train, I originally was not a fan of the book. In the
sections featuring Molly, I felt like Kline s writing style was poor and amateur. For example, Kline
includes numerous swear words in an attempt to make the dialogue more relatable; however, her
attempt falls flat and only increases the unnecessary amount of melodrama that exists in Molly s
world. I do not find it impressive or relatable when Molly swears at Dina or while around Jack. To be
clear, I do not have an issue with swearing, but I do have an issue with how swearing is only included
to emphasize how much Molly hates Dina and furthers the idea that Dina is a one dimensional
antagonist. Dina is portrayed as essentially evil incarnate, she disregards Molly s dietary choices,
verbally abuses her husband and Molly, and has an insufferable personality. Dina has no redeeming
quality about her; Kline has failed to write a believable antagonist. Overall, I did not enjoy the
beginning of the novel.
Though I may dislike Kline s writing style and her portrayal of characters during the sections with
Molly, I enjoyed the sections with Vivian and all of her previous incarnations. Not only did Kline s
writing style significantly improve during these sections, but the majority of the characters had an

Comparing Antigone To Creon
The play Antigone is about two brothers who kill each other in battle, one is buried one isn t and laws
are placed in order to prevent it from happening. A sister comes in to bury his brother despite the laws
and risk potential death in the process. The person who put these laws into place is called Creon, who
wants the person who buried the body to face justice. The sister who committed this crime is
Antigone, who is also the character that I m contrasting with Creon.
Antigone, while being the sibling to the two brothers, is also related to Creon. You would assume this
would cause Creon to not consider killing his blood and also is actually his son s bride. Instead, he
chooses to be relentless and even tell to her sister, Ismene, Why not? There are other fields for him to
plough. This choice was a big contributor to Creon s becoming of a tragic hero. It shows to Antigone
that he doesn t want her brother buried by any means necessary even if it means killing his own blood.

education and social class. Usually when conferring about these two aspects, social class and
underachievement becomes the focus of attention. Working class children experience a much greater
