Classroom Transitioning
The center policy and procedures on parent and staff conferences to inform the parents or guardians of
the child s behavior, progress, and social and physical needs. 7.702.41 W
Parent teacher conferences take place on ongoing bases as the child moves from classroom to
classroom. In the conferences child s behavior, progress, social and physical needs are discussed.
Additional meetings may be added during the year if the request is made by the teachers or the
parents. The parents sign a form documenting the conference and are placed in the child s file. Group

Flammable Liquids
Arson Detection : The Discovery of Flammable Liquids . In this practice , we analyzed flammable
liquids by the method of gas chromatograph . First of all , we tried to find the retention time of
standard flammable liquids to be able to identify our unknown sample comparing with their retention
times . The standards samples were : charcoal lighter , gasoline , kerosene , light fluid , shellac thinner
, and paint thinner . The retention time is calculated by the formula : We injected 5 (1)L of paint
thinner using the syringe needle into the gas chromatograph and we used the speed of 1cm/min to test
which volume could be used . However , the pick was too high and we changed the volume (2)to 1

3 . Why might there still (12)ne accelerant (13)present on materials found at the base of the fire even
though the building was almost entirely burned down ? Because a considerable portion of the fuel
remains (14)unburned and what does burn can leave characteristic burn patterns or diagnostic signs . 4
. How might one determine the physical location of the origin of the fire , so that he might know
where to look for evidence of accelerant ? By the burn/damage patterns found at the origin of the fire
it is possible to have an idea of which accelerant was used . When volatile vapors burn above a
flammable liquid accelerant they leave distinct patterns (15)unlike other combustible products usually
found in a structure . Conclusion Based on the comparison of the retention times of the standard
flammable liquids and the average of the unknown sample , we concluded that kerosene was the
accelerant used . We run this samples five times and each time we had a different peak that did not
match with the standard s peaks . So , we calculated the retention time and we found that the unknown
sample had a retention time of 0.7 (16)min and the kerosene had 0.8 (17)min as the retention time ,

Urbanization Dbq Essay
Urbanization and Industrialization brought millions of people to growing cities, these growing cities
were ill equipped to deal with growing population rate. While some might argue that Industrialization
had primarily positive consequences for society because of a surplus of job opportunities, faster
production, and more amenities, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization s
negative effects were angersome working conditions, poor quality of life, and child labor. Envision a
factory filled with feculence and exasperated toilers, contraptions doing various tasks denied of safety

Brooklyn Train Station Research Paper
This field research project is on the accessibility of Brooklyn train stations for non ambulatory
individuals. I frequently ride the subways to travel to Manhattan and the stations I have come across in
the past such as 42nd street Time Square, 34th street Herald Square, and 14th street Union Square all
appeared to be accessible to disabled people who use wheelchairs. I wanted to explore four train
station in Brooklyn both busy and non busy stations to see how accessible they are. The first Brooklyn
train station that I visited was the Broadway Junction train station. This station is located on Fulton
Street and Vansiderdan Avenue, the border of East New York. This station serves the A,C,J, L, and Z
trains. Broadway Junction station is one of the busiest stations in Brooklyn. I arrived to this station via
bus during morning rush hour. I immediately notice construction being done on the sidewalk making
the remaining sidewalk very narrow. It was difficult to find a slope to get on the sidewalk if I were ...

serves two lines, Q and B, it is also a very busy station. I began my observations by walking from the
busy shopping area on Flatbush Avenue to the train station entrance on Church Avenue and East 18th
street. Immediately I noticed one step in order to get into the station. As in all stations there was metro
card machines and tollbooth clerk. There was also a gate that the clerk buzzed if someone needed to
pass. There were two stairwells, Manhattan bound and Coney Island bound. There was no elevator in
sight. In fact I witnessed a mother carrying a stroller with a child up the stairs. Once I was on the
platform, I walked to the second exit/entrance and noticed another long stairwell to get out of the

Securing Military Gear Essay
Importance of Securing Items The definition of sensitive items is anything that considered classified
or a mission essential item. They range anywhere from protective wear, maps, patrol routes, nods
(night vision goggles) or simply your weapon. The meaning of securing your sensitive items mainly is
maintaining accountability for opsec (operation security), mission success and a soldiers overall
readiness. If an item is lost and the enemy gets his/her hands on that item it could compromise the
mission at hand or give them intelligence on the items we as soldiers use each day. Using habits and
exercising the securing of sensitive items will make it possible for the soldier and his or her team to

Also every sensitive item or equipment is high dollar valued so if you lose it you will be hurting
money wise by losing a grand or more easily right on the spot. And after that you can possibly do jail

You might even get an article fifteen after all that or maybe when you hate to pay for the lost sensitive
equipment or item so these should be a main priority to maintain and know where they are at all times
and are accounted for either battle buddy or maybe CQ desk or the CP if they re not personally on
you. Weapons are essential to keep intact because without your weapon you cannot defend yourself. If
you any part of your weapon it causes you to lose protection for yourself. Then your team will lose
protection from you if your needed, which in turn the platoon suffers from one person not being able
to protect themselves from danger causes the whole company and eventually unit to lose a key piece
of protection. Loss of ear pro is also another item not to lose if out on the battle field it can cause
permanent hearing loss. Eye pro will protect your eyes from any debris from hitting your eyes during
battle. A platoon counts on every piece of equipment used to make the mission smoother and able to
accomplish if a piece of equipment comes up missing then the unit as a whole suffers. When a person

Every Student Succeeds Improving No Child Left Behind
There have been many reforms that have been put in place since schools were created in 1635 . New
acts are created and changed as America and its school system continues to change. Lyndon B.
Johnson, to face the problem of war on poverty , created the Elementary and Secondary School Act of
1965. As America changed, in 2001, George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act to replace
the 1965 act because America was no longer competing internationally with other countries . This
controversial act has negatively affected teachers and students ever since its implication inception.
After being enacted for over 10 years, NCLB is being replaced with a new act that was just signed by

These tests play a large role in the lives of teachers and students, and it creates controversy and
hardships in the education system.
NCLB has directly affected teachers and their stability of their jobs. In this act, teachers are evaluated
based on student s standardized test scores. There are many factors that affect students when they take
standardized tests. Students could understand all of the material, but when they take the test have
anxiety, and not do well. Student disabilities also need to be a factor to consider. All students are
different, and teachers should not have to worry about losing their jobs based on one test that their
students take. According to Levine, Tests made it easier to identify substandard teachers and easier to
justify firing them. (Levine). Standardized tests should not be used as a way to justify; they should be
used to test what a student has learned. The importance of these tests is causing teachers to only focus
on the material to make sure the students do well on the tests. They solely focus on what will be on
these tests, which affects the other factors students need to learn at school. This is called teaching to
the test . For example, students should learn how to do an oral presentation and group projects, which
could potentially be pushed to a corner to focus strictly on testing material. Focusing just on testing
material could also make teachers not focus on their creativity in lesson plans. This deprives

How To Achieve Social Statuses In House Of Mirth, By Edith...
In the early 19th century, social class or status was everything to individuals back then. Social status
was everything to people, just by saying they were better than others. Also, by saying they were higher
statuses than one another was such a huge deal back then, which higher statues and ranks were about
how had money and who didn t. As people say history repeats itself, I believe that, for instance,
nowadays people are always trying to outdo one another. Edith Wharton expressed a variety of
different dimensions throughout House of Mirth, which included social, cultural, political, economic.
Edith Wharton elaborates a story about Lily Barton, a young lady in her mid 20 s, who is continuously
trying to achieve social statuses while dealing with other life struggles. She struggles trying to find
someone rich to marry and ends up not being able to become wealthy either. When she struggles to try
and find who she wants to marry she tends to get discourage and ends up putting herself in a serious
amount of debt that she is unable to pay back. While in debt, she has trouble sleeping, and starts
taking medicine to help with this problem. When she had enough money to pay off this debt she uses
it to her advantage and pays off all her debt, however why paying off her debts Lily was still taking
her sleeping pills and ends up over dosing, which causes her to die. After, this short summary of
House of Mirth, did Lily social status affect her life? Did her social status actually

The Deception of Predestination
Fate, being always truly unknown and seemingly static, is not something that one should tamper with.
It leads all decisions and outcomes, if one so chooses to believe in the concept of predestination. In
Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, three witches decisively go against their orders and toy with the
lives of thousands of people by telling riddles of the future and it s biddings. Evidently, all those who
were given a glance into their future by the meddling trio soon let sanity slip through their fingers and
fell into their eventual demise. Banquo, who being told of his kins fortune and fames soon to come,

Macbeth was, at first, a wise and well adjusted Thane of Glamis but after his encounter with the WeĂŻrd
Sisters his nobility began to quickly falter. His wits last him until the insight that he will become the
Thane of Cawdor proved the witches true. He follows his wife s footsteps and joins in on the apparent
necessity of assassinating all those who may stand in his way. Unlike his wife, Macbeth s mind takes
an early toll as he begins to hallucinate images that guide him in these tasks and wrought his mind
with maliciousness and emotional pain. It is clear to see that his faith in the fortunes is what is
wrenching his mind into such dark places. If not for being told of his greater becomings, Macbeth
would have been satisfied with the life he led, as he was honored by his granted title to Thane of
Cawdor. Only after meeting Macduff, who by word of the witches is the one who will kill him, does
he realize that he may very well have been tricked:
MACBETH. Accursèd be that tongue that tells me so,
For it hath cowed my better part of man!
And be these juggling fiends no more believed
That palter us in a double sense,
That keep the word of promise to our ear
And break it to our hope. (5.8.21 26)

Conspiracy Theories And Theories Of Life And Everything
There s many different opinions and theories to life and everything in it. The question is, which of
them are real? Conspiracy theories have been around since the early 1790 s and never have really gone
out of style since then. There are many different stories, videos and articles about conspiracy theories,
all of which really make one think. One of the most shocking conspiracy theories came around 1972, a
little after NASA had conducted the first moon landing. Many people believed that this moon landing
was fake and it was all set up with green screens and different props ( Conspiracy Theories ). Along
with endless amounts of conspiracy theories comes the most controversial conspiracy theory of them
all. The Mandela Effect all started when many people remembered Nelson Mandela passing away
when he was in prison for over twenty seven years, when really he died just a few years ago in 2013.
After this theory was sought out, more and more people began noticing things that they misremember,
whether it is a small detail in a movie, a misspelling on a book, or even an event that they remember
happening differently. To most people, conspiracy theories are nothing more than a hoax; however,
there are many facts and figures to prove these theories. Along with the NASA conspiracy theory,
there were a few other major conspiracy theories at the time. In 1963, when president John F. Kennedy
was assassinated, a conspiracy theory came out stating that Oswald was not the only one involved

Right Choices In The Giver By Lois Lowry
Is a preferred utopian world always turn out to be a perfect world? Life is all about making choices.
You always do your best to make the right ones, and you would do your best to learn from the wrong
ones. Before Jonas became the receiver, he thought that everything was alright. But once he became
the receiver and received memories, the truths, lies, and new things started to appear. Jonas and the
Giver made a plan since Jonas was so angry that the community doesn t know everything. The plan
was to have Jonas find Elsewhere so that he could disperse his memories and the Giver would help the
community take in the pain from the memories. Jonas took Gabriel to escape since he didn t want him
to pass away. In the novel called The Giver , a science fiction novel by Lois Lowry, the main character
named Jonas, made a right decision to leave the community. Three reasons why this was a right
decision is because it could lead to a happier life, save Gabriel, and return the memories to the people.

since nurturers can t take good care of him. Jonas wanted Gabriel to live a longer life since his father
said, It s bye bye to you, Gabe, in the morning (165). This addresses my thesis because Jonas had
developed a wonderful relationship with Gabriel where he thinks of him as part of his family. That
feeling of love he had developed with Gabe, made him risk anything to save him experiencing death.

Orange County Bankruptcy
Bond Pricing and Yield Mini Case Orange County, California filed for bankruptcy in 1994 mostly
because of losses experienced in experienced in the Orange County Investment Pool (OCIP). The
losses were $1.6 billion in a fund set up to maximize profits through a speculative investment strategy
(high yield, interest sensitive and highly leveraged securities) (Saskal, 2005). During a time of low
interest rates the investment strategy was returning a great investment; however, when interest rates
began the upward rise, the fund began losing money and ultimately was not able to cover loan
payments. This led to the county to file for bankruptcy. This paper will discuss some of the

Generally, municipalities will issue pensions bonds to cover liabilities set for employee pension plans.
While Orange County approved benefit enhancements that lowered retirement age and increased
benefits, thus increasing the pension liabilities in 2003, the advisory committee set up after the
bankruptcy did not immediately approve a corresponding pension bond at the time of the article s
writing. Refinancing Recovery bonds were issued in 1996 for Orange County. Saskal (2004) provides
the rates of the bonds were higher coupon bonds ranging from 5.6% with 2009 maturity to 5.8% with
2016 maturity and a 6.0% with 2026 maturity. According to the article, repayment of the loans was to
become a priority, however, due to legal/tax issues; the method of payment is still to be determined.
Conclusion The bankruptcy of Orange County, the high economic county of California, took a lot of
people by surprise. The ratings of the bonds were low risk investment grade, yet because of a highly
risky investment strategy and increasing interest rates, the bottom fell out and the option Orange
County followed was bankruptcy. For investors that stayed with Orange County through restructuring
and after emerging from bankruptcy, they were rewarded with full principal payments, and past due
interest. The county also started an advisory committee to prevent future

Sociology of Childhood
How the concept of Childhood has evolved over time
For this assignment I will explore the concept of childhood and how this has evolved over time across
different societies, looking particularly at the role education has in childhood. I will also take a closer
look at the different sociological perspectives of childhood and will use these to interpret children s
experiences in order to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of early childhood. I will explore
how certain constraints of childhood have emerged over time and how these have shaped our
knowledge and understating of children s lives.

There are many socialisation theories that try to make sense of our socialisation process.
A socialisation theory is that, we are in effect, produced in childhood by social conditioning. It is only
through this process that we become social, and because human beings are essentially social animals,
this means that it is only through this process that we become fully human. More specifically we are
socialised into understanding and accepting the conventional norms and values of our particular
society, and becoming part of a culture; we are socialised into our particular roles, social status and
social class; and according to some our own individual personality is also the result of the
socialisation process.
(Maynard amp; Thomas, an introduction to Early Childhood studies, 2nd edition, Page 35)
I will explore one of these theories in greater detail order to gain a wider understanding of children s
experiences.

Pitt Panthers Research Paper
With nine national championships, 74 first team All Americans, and 712 all time wins, the Pitt
Panthers have long been one of college football s premier programs. Few schools can rival the players
my dad and grandpa grew up watching, such as Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino. What do they have in
common? Both played at historic Pitt Stadium, home of the Panthers since 1925. This, along with the
iconic Pitt Script logo and their royal blue and mustard yellow color scheme, gave Pitt an
unmistakable identity. However, this all changed when Steve Pederson became the new athletic
director in 1997. After four straight losing seasons, Pederson thought it would be best to put his own
mark on the program by changing the school s colors to navy blue and vegas gold and getting rid of
Pitt s decades old logo. Worst of all, he tore down the 75 year old stadium and replaced it with a new
basketball arena, which alienated him with the entire alumni base and led to decreased support almost
overnight. Following this, Pitt football moved to the newly built Heinz Field, also home to the

The Portrayal Of The Catholic Church
The Portrayal of the Catholic Church in Film The Catholic Church as we know it is much different
than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to
mind when the words Catholic Church are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s
what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very
different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays
government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system or
decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends
government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The Catholic Church had great influence
on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who operated under a
theocratic ruling. With God being the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The
royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and everyone else is below them.
The church had power over the military, who had access to education, individuals socioeconomic
class, the laws, and almost anything else one could think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to
convert anyone who was not Christian into a Christian, and to conquer lands that were not under
Christian rule and use them under the power of the Catholic Church. The goal of the inquisition was to

Summary Of An Den Mond No 116
Franz Schubert s An den Mond no. 176 starts with flowing chords in the piano, a five measure piano
introduction and then a soft entry of the vocal line. An den Mond no. 116 starts with no piano
introduction, rather the vocalist has the downbeat with the pianists left hand and the piece has started.
The two renditions of the An den Mond each hold very individual techniques for conveying the lieder
as well as the notes at the same time with an equally relatable tone. An de Mond No. 116 starts off
with two measure phrase pattern that continues throughout the whole piece. From the very start the
piece visually defines phrase endings as they are marked by a half note. This naturally shows a
cadence as it slows down the line and then continues with a change of thought. However, only one out
of all eight of the half note phrase endings ends up. The phrases are therefore quick but also give a
solemn downwards feel. The lieder captures this as well. The text is very calm and reflective and for
the only phrase that ends up it puts emphasis on the words at last (Measure 6). These two words so the
accomplishment of a desire that has just been filled. The words also show that there is a sadness that
comes with the lieder. An de Mond No. 116 also develops moments of romance. The romance appears
to be between the performer and a friend as the text that starts in measure nine suggests. You cast your
soothing gaze over my fields; with a friend s gentle eye, you watch over my fate.

Cultural Appropriation And Its Effects
Most things in life are not guaranteed. However, a few things are like taxes and cafeteria food being of
low quality. Students at Oberlin are complaining about the school s cafeteria food is racist and cultural
appropriation . Cultural appropriation is the act of taking another cultural group s culture. In this case,
it is from poorly made Asian foods like sushi and General Tso s chicken. They claim that because
these foods are poorly made, it is an insult to them and their culture. Most people find this case to be
absolutely ridiculous and use it as a way to prove that people can get offended over anything.
The whole idea of cultural appropriation is taking culture from a marginalized group. This has recently
became a hot issue with the droves of Tumblr and their ilk. The main problem with the people are
fighting cultural appropriation is that it makes it so there is no right way to share other people s
cultures around. This is taken to the extreme in this case, it is ridiculous to say that somebody is
stealing culture when the food is poorly prepared. From the article, a Japanese student was
complaining about the quality of the sushi being prepared at the school and the lack of fresh fish. Well,
as a person who enjoys sushi I can easily say that an American school will never be a good place for
sushi. Especially a landlocked, tiny liberal arts school in Ohio. Quality sushi is really hard to come by
in Ohio, outside of specialized restaurants. That s not stealing

Ludwig Van Beethoven s Influence On The Romantic Movement
The music of Ludwig van Beethoven served as a pivot between the styles of the classical and romantic
periods. In his early career, Beethoven worked primarily in the classical idiom. However, in his later
work, Beethoven often pushed the classical forms to their furthest extreme. According to Francis
Claudon, Beethoven was not truly a romantic composer because he never overstepped the boundaries
of classical art. At the same time, Claudon claims that Beethoven was a revolutionary whose
innovations paved the way toward the increased expressionism which was characteristic of romantic
music. It is commonly known that Beethoven s personality had a strong influence on the composers of
the romantic period. In this regard, it has been noted that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mozart and Haydn are two other great musicians that come to mind when you talk about Ludwig van
Beethoven because they were his foundation. Due to his impressive foundation, Beethoven was then

it had some good information about his influence on the Romantic period.
In the essay I read that Beethoven served as a pivot between the styles of the classical and romantic

way toward the increased expressionism which was characteristic of romantic music. It s almost like
he was part of the cause and not just an influence. It is commonly known that Beethoven s personality
had a strong influence on the composers of the romantic period was also written in the essay. Just to
know that his personality had such an influence is applaudable. One of the major elements of romantic
music such as the emphasis on the expression of emotions can be found in music produced by Ludwig
van Beethoven. That single handled speaks about his influence and contribution to the Romantic style.
Beethoven was profound and remarkable, considering the fact that he went deaf, but still managed

Essay about Out of This Furnace Analysis
Steel Mill Immigrants Of Industrial America
For many Americans, the late nineteenth century was a time of big business, marked by economic and
social evolution. In the period between the 1880 and 1920, the American economy was growing at a
rapid pace. Many European immigrants without industrial skills flooded into American factories and
steel mills. These new comer s came in search of better economic opportunity, which paved the way
for Heavy, low paying labor that became the job description of the era for many immigrants. One such
story of immigrants of the time is Thomas Bell s Out of this Furnace. This not only a story of three
generations of Slovaks and the challenges they faced but also about the Americanization and evolving

In the novel, Kracha s family is a full one. He has three daughters and a world of problems at home.
Despite this he refuses to waste away at the mill after a couple of years. So he sees opportunity, and
becomes a butcher. Unfortunately he fails at his attempts to climb the ranks economically. Kracha, like
most workers of the time, drowns him self in alcohol to hide from the problems of bills, finances and
taxes. Kracha s wife, Elena, had to take in boarders to lighten the economic load. This is a typical
practice of women in the mill towns. Not only did they take in boarders, but also they took care of the
house and had to raise the children wile sometimes taking odd jobs to make ends meat. The second
part of the novel is about Mike Dobrejcak who married, Kracha s eldest daughter, Mary. Mike is also a
mill worker, migrated to America when he was still in his teens. This second generation of Slovaks is
becoming more aware of politics, and how important their votes are in elections. With a greater
understanding of the issues around them the second generation of immigrants started to vote. Still
working in the mills they hold fast to the American dream. Faced with the same problems that the first
generation had, now he was faced with wage cuts along with the never ending struggles with the
union. The next part of the book is about Mary. When her husband (Mike) dies she is compensated

The Yellow Wallpaper And I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen
Domestic ideology is a series of related ideas that characterized the family home as the domain of the
woman, and that based these ideas on the belief that women were innately weaker to the man. The
Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen show great
stories about women not falling into the domestic ideology role. The authors demonstrate this through
the ability to properly function, being an efficient mother, and not meeting the expectations of the
domestic ideology. The culture of women during the 1880s 1910s was expected to get married and
stay at home to become a housewife. They would have to raise the children making sure they are
behaved and well groomed. Also, women were expected to have the house cleaned every day. From

The Roles Of Sophie Scholl
There were about 67 million people living in Germany during the time of the Holocaust, however only
a few had the bravery to speak out against the Nazis. Sophie Scholl was one of these courageous
people. It is evident that Sophie Scholl is a great role model who impacted Germany because she
wrote anti Nazi propaganda, fought for what she thought was right, and Germans today admire her.
Sophie grew up during the Nazi takeover in Forchtenberg, Germany. Unlike most German families,
hers had their own ideas about the Nazi party. Her father, who was a former mayor of several small
towns in Germany, warned Sophie and her brothers about the new regime eventually abusing their
power (Biography in Context). Her parents also encouraged their children to think for themselves and
speak their minds (Student Resource Center). This parental support foreshadows what Sophie and her
brother would become. The Scholl household was very supportive of their family members.
When Sophie was twelve years old, she joined the League of German Girls. This was a pseudo Nazi
organization (Pettinger). These organizations, called Hitler Youth Organizations, trained and educated
German teenagers to become loyal followers of the Nazi Party (Zapotczny). Initially, Sophie excelled
in the League of German Girls. She enjoyed the activities and was even promoted to a leadership
position. However, Sophie eventually became skeptical about the organization she was in (Pettinger).

The True Cost Of Animal Experimentation Essay
The True Cost of Animal Experimentation Imagine being held captive in an unnatural environment,
alone and frightened, with burns and open wounds covering any and all exposed skin. On top of this,
picture living in inadequate housing, being handled improperly which leads to serious injury, not
knowing if and when the next meal is coming, and finally, not having access to proper medical
treatment when required. Unfortunately, this is not an imaginary scenario for many species of animals
worldwide today but a harsh reality. Animal experimentation is still a common practice among
medical laboratories and cosmetic industries. These animals have no choice in the matter and, more
commonly than not, are not treated properly in accordance with the standards provided by the Animal
Welfare Act. Animal experimentation results in animals being hurt physically and emotionally, there is
a lack of regulation, results found in animal trials are not always compatible with results found in
humans, and finally, it s an outdated practice as there are other viable technological alternatives.
Animal experimentation should be outlawed due to sufficient harm done to animals, incompatible
results, and alternate options being available. Animals unnecessarily suffer physically and emotionally
in animal experimentations. Supporters of experiments involving animals argue that there are laws and
committees in place at all research institutions to prevent the abuse and wrongful treatment of the
animals,

Women Coping with Breast Cancer Essay
Women Coping with Breast Cancer
Coping has been closely connected to stress; it involves a process by which a person attempts to
restore balance in response to a stressful life event (Henderson, Gore, Davis, and Condon, 2003). The
most common cancer among Canadian women in 2010 is breast cancer. An average of 445 Canadian
women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an average of 100 Canadian women will die of breast
cancer every week (Canadian Cancer Society, 2010). Coping with breast cancer has been defined as
being emotionally and physically challenging for women and their families (Henderson et Al., 2003).

Coping With Possible Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Description of the literature. The first theme to be reviewed was coping with possible breast cancer
diagnosis. The article was written by Sigrunn Drageset and Torill Lindstrom (2005), it examined the
relationship between demographic characteristics, social support, anxiety, coping and defence among
women with possible breast cancer. This study entailed a quantitative, non experimental, cross
correlational survey: The investigators used a self administered questionnaire from a convenience
sample. The sample size consists of 117 women between the ages of 25 to 76 years with possible
breast cancer who had undergone a breast biopsy under local anesthesia.
Literature findings. The key findings from this study were patients with a reasonably good educational
background cope best while waiting for a possible breast cancer diagnosis. They received social
support from relationships described by attachments. A number of poorly educated, unemployed, and
single or divorced, widowed women typically used a cognitive defensive coping style. People that
utilized a defensive hostile coping style tend to receive poor social support, and thus, they are the most
in need of professional support from nurses.

So basically when your economy is globalized and world population increases (flat plus crowded),
there will be a global demand for food, energy, and natural resources which of course grew at a quick
pace.
Philip K. Werleger Jr., who is a well known energy economists who also wrote in the International
Economy (September 22, 2007) stated that, History may well repeat from 2001 to 2020 as China,
India, and other countries move from developing to developed nations. Consumption can be expected
to increase at a pace close to the rate of the economic growth in these nations, just as it did in Europe,
Japan, and the United States following the Second World War And he also stated that, While these
countries may, through efficiency measures be able to produce more GDP growth with less energy, the
fact is that they are now involved in building massive amounts of new infrastructure and that
infrastructure is energy intensive.
Many more people can suddenly or are or will be living the middle class lifestyle and not to mention
that they are demand driven. These are the forces that are fueling the Energy Climate Era. Larry
Goldstein who is an oil export at the Energy Policy Research Foundation mentions the pivotal year

two major incidents that happened that year and they were an increased demand for energy thanks to

Another reason as to why Avatar can be depicted as the human world is because of the vivid displays
that the film provided. The viewer of the film can imagine being so engulfed by the imagery. When
the scenes of Pandora appear with the Hometree, or the Tree of Soul, you feel like you can smell the
trees. This type of imagery is in relation to the real world. The director succeeded with the fact that we
felt like we were actually in the movie. Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world,
and here is the dream (Sam Worthington, Avatar). Jake Sully, the protagonist of Avatar, agreed to

Education Of Autistic And Related Communication...
Abstract
Autism is a developmental disorder that is having a great effect on our nation. Something must be
done to slow the rising instances of cases of autism. Treatments and interventions must be
implemented into a child with autisms life. Without these interventions the level of autism in a child
will increase (Francis, 2005). The Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication
Handicapped Children (TEACCH) method and Early Intensive Behavior Interventions (EIBI) method
are two well known methods that help decrease the severity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a
child (Francis, 2005). The two interventions differ in the age that they are implemented (MacDonald,

The two most useful and known interventions are the TEACCH method of intervention, which stands
for the Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children

of these methods are known for decreasing the effects but neither are foolproof methods (MacDonald,
Parry Cruwys, Dupere, Ahearn, 2014). Limiting the effects that Autism has on the body and limiting
the effects that Autism has on the individuals social life, are the main focus for many doctors and
therapists (Francis, 2005). The two methods differ drastically in the age group that the focus on. This
is where controversy is known to exist. The TEACCH method focuses on the intervention of school
age children, elementary through high school (Francis, 2005). The EIBI method focuses on
intervention in the toddler age (2 3) (Matson Konst, 2013). The two interventions show major aid to
decreasing the effects that ASD has on the body and has shown the change the lives of children with
autism throughout the world (Francis, 2005).

Health Disparities And Communication Disorders
Health Disparities and Communication Disorders

Abstract Currently in the Unites States, Americans are struggling to maintain quality health without
proper healthcare. As a result, health disparities have become a widespread epidemic plaguing
minorities. Many of the various health disproportions stem from the government s inequality and
racism. In other cases, genetics and socioeconomic status may cause health disparities. Overall, these
disparities may be avoidable or unavoidable depending on the individual. Recently, health disparities
have begun to implicate the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Speech pathologists have

An article in Psychology Today explains that currently minorities become ill at younger ages, suffer
from more severe illnesses and die earlier than Whites (Lyubansky, 2013). Currently, minorities of low
socioeconomic status (SES) suffer from more health discrepancies than any other race in the United
States. Research has shown that these health disparities against all minorities have begun to implicate
all medical professionals including speech pathologists. Among minorities such as Asians, Hispanics,
Indians, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners, the African American race has been affected
tremendously by the health disparities in the United States. Currently, African Americans have
significantly higher mortality rates from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, cancer, diabetes,
HIV, unintentional injuries, pregnancy, sudden infant death syndrome, and homicide than do whites
Americans (Fiscella Williams, 2004). While African Americans may lead in these categories, other
minorities are not far behind in experiencing health disparities.
Causes
Biochemical theories have said to be a leading cause of health disparities in minorities. Various
research sources confirm that genetics plays a role in the prevalence of disparities among minorities.
Family traits such as metabolism, passed down illnesses, and life expectancy may cause an individual
to acquire poor health

A necessary prerequisite for a full understanding of any species behavior includes possessing
comprehensive knowledge of their respective sensory world. Here we attempted to determine the
sensory threshold for a response to sweetness in both the flesh fly Sarcophaga bullata and Homo
sapiens. Flies and humans alike were exposed to increasingly concentrated solutions of glucose and
monitored for a positive response, indicative of the detection of sweetness. Results from our
experiment strongly indicate the population threshold for sweetness detection in S. bullata resides at a
glucose solution concentration level of 1%, while humans exhibited an increased sweetness
sensitivity, with the population threshold appearing at 0.1%. However, while ... Show more content on

al. 2004). Important takeaways from these studies indicate that members of the taxa tend to be most
responsive to simple and sweet flavored carbohydrates (Dethier 1955, as quoted in Jakinovich et. al.
1971). However, taxa members responses to amino acids have been shown to be more subtle, if
present at all, with Potter and Bertin (1988), for example, determining no significant response to a
variety of amino acid solutions in S. bullata.
Traditionally, experimental analysis of Homo sapiens taste thresholds has similarly focused on these
two classes of biomolecules, with similar sweetness thresholds as those exhibited by members of the
taxa Insecta being established in H. sapiens with respect to simple carbohydrates. For example, while
Scheiner et. al. in (2003) (as quoted in Scheiner et al. 2004), demonstrated that a sucrose concentration
above 3% was sufficient to induce a positive sweetness detection rate of close to 60% in a population
of the honey bee, Apis mellifera, Richard Bowen (2016) has indicated the H. sapiens population
response threshold resides around sucrose concentrations of 3.4%.
Recently however, the movement away from the high calorie content of simple carbohydrate
sweeteners in the human diet, has generated an industry of artificial sweeteners commonly utilized by

Final Reflection Journal:
Diversity and Cultural Issues in TESOL Education
During the course entitled Diversity and Cultural Issues in TESOL Education, issues of diversity and
culture, as well as methods, strategies, and approaches for engaging English language learners were
examined. Students all over the world learn English for a variety of reasons. Some students must study
English as a requirement. Other students may wish to travel, study abroad, or work in the global
marketplace where knowledge of the English language is seen as a prerequisite for success. Still other
students have migrated to communities where English is spoken as the primary language. A school s
curriculum may be taught exclusively in English. Whatever the reasons for studying English may be,
the one thing students all over the globe learning English have in common is that they are all different.
Diversity includes different races, religions, ethnic origins, primary languages, among other human
traits and wide ranging economic circumstances.
TESOL Education
TESOL Education is a field of teaching that generally refers to the instruction of English as second or
foreign language. Freeman and Freeman (2011) define the acronym TESOL as, Teachers of English to
Speakers of Other Languages (p. 95). TESOL is the name of an organization that sets standards for
English second language acquisition. The acronym TESOL is also commonly used to describe this

The evolution of the processor has come all the way from the Intel 4004 to the processors of today and
one would expect Moore s law to continue to allow exponentially more powerful processors from here

processors being so fast they produce too much heat to effectively cool, leading to CPU developers
needing to design new cooling systems or a new way of making transistors entirely. Another hurdle for
CPU developers is that as the transistors become smaller and smaller, quantum tunneling takes place,
and a semiconductor becomes just a conductor, allowing power all of the time. A possible solution

hurricane Maria, the United Nations Council meeting, North Korea, and most notably Donald Trump.
The New York Post however, was more geared towards the casual reader covering topics such as
celebrity gossip in the U.S. and occasionally a political issue here and there. The Telegraph focused
mainly on issues in England, especially the problems Parliament is facing with the Brexit decision and
internal conflicts between members Theresa May and Boris Johnson. The Richmond Times Dispatch
was circulating many articles concerning the removal of Confederate monuments as it is a pressing
issue for many people residing in the Southern states of the U.S. Other articles were very focused on
issues Virginian s were facing. Specific articles that had been written by the reporters of each website
varied, especially in contrast with work done by the New York Post. The New York Times in
discussing Trump on his statements made at the UN council meeting were not followed with words of
praise or condemnation, but rather felt factual and focused on informing rather than convincing.
However, in a article written by the New York Post concerning a Trump Victory Dinner to be hosted in
New York, albeit short, had subtle discontent with the actions of the president ensuring to note that he

Loneliness And Isolation
In Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson, the author creatively develops the story of different
individuals living in Ohio at the turn of the century. The wide multitude of characters developed
throughout the twenty four stories in the complete piece, all have lives slightly deformed by the
loneliness and isolation they feel. His unique characterization by uniting the seemingly different
stories through a common theme create an intense impact as a whole that immerses the reader in the
peculiar lives of the community s inhabitants. The first story, The Book of the Grotesque, serves as a
prologue to the story, even though it is not addressed as such. The main character, a nameless elderly
writer, describes his visions of these different individuals in relation to his theory about ... Show more

The reader by the end of the piece can assume that each story is drawn from a character of this
unnamed author. This first story introduces many of the common themes to be included throughout the
story including isolation and lives corrupted by loneliness, as characterized by the author through the
narrator. In the story Surrender, the characterization of Louise Bentley encompasses the carried theme
of loneliness. Not only is Louise somewhat alienated from her family due to her lack of relationship
with her father, she is stuck in a failing marriage due to her impulsive craving for love at a young age.
We see her character turned bitter and angry as a result of her life choices. The reader essentially
experiences a slice of each character s life, in an effort to understand how their particular isolation has
impacted their life. In a story later in Winesburg, Loneliness, we see a character affected by his
loneliness to the point of near

Issues At Roberts Cellars Company
Winery company has faced some issues in which that has affected their business. Thank you for
having us as mentors to review the issues at Roberts Cellars Company. We carefully studied the case
of the situation at Roberts Cellars Company during our meeting. We as one group figured out that the
problem at Roberts Cellars Company is the TCA a chemical that can cause musty odors and flavors in
wine. TCA infects the cork, then is transferred to the wine when it comes into contact with the cork.
As a team, we believe that TCA should be removed from the situation completely by no longer using
Portugal as a source for cork but instead changing the coverings to screw top conclusions instead. In
addition, the TCA issues need to be addressed, and we suggest Robert Cellars selecting a different
cork supplier with a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have been able to collect some insurance money but the insurance refund was lacking to cover
the total customer refund. Cash reserves have been tapped to cover the remaining refunds. However,
as a team we trust that what Lara said about claiming that customer loyalty has been established by
building trust is right. So, we think Lara should be in control of the winery business not only because
she is a risk taker who likes to challenge herself to achieve new sales goals for the winery but she gave
out the idea when she said that she believes that Roberts Cellars needs to explain the problems with
the tainted cork publicly and explain how this problem will be avoided in the future: specifically,
though the use of screw top closures. She has improved sales and she could diminish the debt. In spite
that the business had customer s complaints in regards to the bottling of the wine. I would say that
they should implement a new bottling system, that way they can increase their external failure

  • 3. Flammable Liquids Arson Detection : The Discovery of Flammable Liquids . In this practice , we analyzed flammable liquids by the method of gas chromatograph . First of all , we tried to find the retention time of standard flammable liquids to be able to identify our unknown sample comparing with their retention times . By the burn/damage patterns found at the origin of the fire it is possible to have an idea of which accelerant was used . When volatile vapors burn above a flammable liquid accelerant they leave distinct patterns (15)unlike other combustible products usually found in a structure . Conclusion Based on the comparison of the retention times of the standard flammable liquids and the average of the unknown sample , we concluded that kerosene was the accelerant used . We run this samples five times and each time we had a different peak that did not match with the standard s peaks . The two renditions of the An den Mond each hold very individual techniques for conveying the lieder as well as the notes at the same time with an equally relatable tone. An de Mond No. 116 starts off with two measure phrase pattern that continues throughout the whole piece. • 23. The Roles Of Sophie Scholl There were about 67 million people living in Germany during the time of the Holocaust, however only a few had the bravery to speak out against the Nazis. Sophie Scholl was one of these courageous people. It is evident that Sophie Scholl is a great role model who impacted Germany because she wrote anti Nazi propaganda, fought for what she thought was right, and Germans today admire her. Sophie grew up during the Nazi takeover in Forchtenberg, Germany. Unlike most German families, hers had their own ideas about the Nazi party. Her father, who was a former mayor of several small towns in Germany, warned Sophie and her brothers about the new regime eventually abusing their power (Biography in Context). Her parents also encouraged their children to think for themselves and speak their minds (Student Resource Center). This parental support foreshadows what Sophie and her brother would become. The Scholl household was very supportive of their family members. When Sophie was twelve years old, she joined the League of German Girls. This was a pseudo Nazi organization (Pettinger). These organizations, called Hitler Youth Organizations, trained and educated German teenagers to become loyal followers of the Nazi Party (Zapotczny). Initially, Sophie excelled in the League of German Girls. She enjoyed the activities and was even promoted to a leadership position. However, Sophie eventually became skeptical about the organization she was in (Pettinger). As was typical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The True Cost Of Animal Experimentation Essay The True Cost of Animal Experimentation Imagine being held captive in an unnatural environment, alone and frightened, with burns and open wounds covering any and all exposed skin. On top of this, picture living in inadequate housing, being handled improperly which leads to serious injury, not knowing if and when the next meal is coming, and finally, not having access to proper medical treatment when required. Unfortunately, this is not an imaginary scenario for many species of animals worldwide today but a harsh reality. Animal experimentation is still a common practice among medical laboratories and cosmetic industries. These animals have no choice in the matter and, more commonly than not, are not treated properly in accordance with the standards provided by the Animal Welfare Act. Animal experimentation results in animals being hurt physically and emotionally, there is a lack of regulation, results found in animal trials are not always compatible with results found in humans, and finally, it s an outdated practice as there are other viable technological alternatives. Animal experimentation should be outlawed due to sufficient harm done to animals, incompatible results, and alternate options being available. Animals unnecessarily suffer physically and emotionally in animal experimentations. Supporters of experiments involving animals argue that there are laws and committees in place at all research institutions to prevent the abuse and wrongful treatment of the animals, ... Consumption can be expected to increase at a pace close to the rate of the economic growth in these nations, just as it did in Europe, Japan, and the United States following the Second World War And he also stated that, While these countries may, through efficiency measures be able to produce more GDP growth with less energy, the fact is that they are now involved in building massive amounts of new infrastructure and that infrastructure is energy intensive. Many more people can suddenly or are or will be living the middle class lifestyle and not to mention that they are demand driven. These are the forces that are fueling the Energy Climate Era. Larry Goldstein who is an oil export at the Energy Policy Research Foundation mentions the pivotal year that told us we were in a new era in terms of global energy supply and demand was 2004. Currently, minorities of low socioeconomic status (SES) suffer from more health discrepancies than any other race in the United States. Research has shown that these health disparities against all minorities have begun to implicate all medical professionals including speech pathologists. Among minorities such as Asians, Hispanics, Indians, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners, the African American race has been affected tremendously by the health disparities in the United States. Currently, African Americans have significantly higher mortality rates from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV, unintentional injuries, pregnancy, sudden infant death syndrome, and homicide than do whites Americans (Fiscella Williams, 2004). Flies and humans alike were exposed to increasingly concentrated solutions of glucose and monitored for a positive response, indicative of the detection of sweetness. Traditionally, experimental analysis of Homo sapiens taste thresholds has similarly focused on these two classes of biomolecules, with similar sweetness thresholds as those exhibited by members of the taxa Insecta being established in H. sapiens with respect to simple carbohydrates.
