In The Aftermath Of The September 11 Attacks, The United
In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, the United States, including its allies, waged brutal
campaigns directed at the Al Qaeda leadership and, the Taliban in the Middle East. America s fight
against terrorism nonetheless consumed billions of dollars since the 9/11 attacks. Earlier, countries
such as England, Spain, Italy, and Russia, similarly waged wars against the Provisional Irish
Republican Army, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, the Red Brigades and the Chechnya separatists. In most of
these cases, research shed light on the mechanisms that led to the demise or the defeat of these
terrorist groups. However, when it comes to similar groups located in the southern hemispheric
countries such as Nigeria, the mechanisms leading to the group ... Show more content on

Corruption may undermine the fight against terrorism by draining public resources, and trust in
government institutions. As one scholar puts it, corruption begets distrust, which begets disorder,
which breeds a host of other evils. The expectation is that countries or regimes in the developing
world witnessing an aggravated grand corruption will have difficulties curbing terrorism.
Comprehending how illegal and corrupt behavior cause systemic damage to national security is
essential to how states, especially, weaker states, plan to defeat terrorism. It will also aid the
international community to know how and where to direct foreign assistance and military aid to
countries battling against terrorism. As this study seeks to explain how grand corruption underlies CT
campaigns, it is important to establish the study s boundaries. Terrorism is a loaded term, and its
definition is questioned. Despite it being analytically elusive and a highly contested term, for the
purpose of this research, it embodies a systematic use of indiscriminate violence directed at civilian to
influence a wider audience. The violent component is asymmetric, and the mode of deployment of the
force falls outside the forms of political struggles such as insurgency and civil wars. Violence and
coercing are intended to cause fear among the civilian population and when the

Indian and International Accounting Standards
Indian and International Accounting Standards Practices
Introduction:
Accounting Standards are used as one of the main compulsory regulatory mechanisms for preparation
of general purpose financial reports and subsequent audit of the same, in almost all countries of the
world. Accounting standards are concerned with the system of measurement and disclosure rules for
preparation and presentation of financials statements. They appear with a set of authoritative
statements of how particular types of transactions, events and other costs should be recognized and
reported in the financial statements. Accounting standards are devised to furnish useful information to
different users of the financial statements, to such as shareholders, ... Show more content on

Do we need to harmonize the accounting standards of different bodies?
Different companies observe it from published annual accounts of various Indian companies that there
are divergent accounting practices for the same transaction. This in effect is defeating the
comparability of financial statements.
The reasons for the different accounting practices may be:
a) Too many alternative accounting treatments in the accounting standards;
b) Lack of harmony among government, standards setting body, and regulatory agencies;
* Adoption of different accounting standards causes difficulties in making relative evaluation of
performance of companies. This phenomenon hinders the valuation and consequently the decision
making process.
* To overcome these problems, harmonization of accounting standards has already been started.
Accounting harmonization is not an end by itself, but it is a means to an end. The ultimate objective of
harmonizing accounting practices among countries is to foster international comparability of accounts.
* But still the harmonization process has a long way to go. Many standard setting bodies and
regulators of different nations are ardent protectors of their local standards; they are in no mood to
allow their job being taken over by a foreign entity.
* Thus winning the consent of these bodies is vital for international accounting standards to don the
mantle of

Nigeria, The Niger Delta and the Nigerian Government
Nigeria might be rich in resources; its population lives in poverty. With a Multidimensional Poverty
Index (MPI) of .31, it was ranked number 157 out of the 186 United Nations (UN) member states in
2012. Also, according to the World Bank, the poverty headcount ratio was 68%, meaning this part of
the population lived with less than $1.25 a day in 2010.
The Niger Delta is one of the nine states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It counts about 20 million
people and around 70 000 km² of land. The region is one of the most prominent wetlands in the world.
Oil has produced about $600 billion since the 1960 s.
Despite its wealth in resources, the majority of the people live under poor conditions. To counter this
poverty, the Nigerian government has set up several commissions in the past. The most prominent are
the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) and the Niger Delta
Development Commission (NDDC).
The OMPADEC was established in 1993 and focused on the development of the Niger Delta Region
(NDR). It however failed due to factors as corruption, mismanagement and non sufficient funding.
Hereafter, the NDDC was to replace the OMPADEC. It would create socio economic development in
the NDR. The NDDC set up various projects in the region. However, due to the poor structure of the
organisation and inadequate funding the NDDC have

Should Government Welfare Be Abolished
Should all forms of government welfare be abolished?
Today most industrialized nations have established as variety of programs, usually providing public
assistance for poor, disabled, and elderly individuals. How to control future welfare spending without
cutting benefits so much that large numbers of people fall into poverty. Before the 1900s,most
governments played a mirror role in ensuring social welfare. England passed laws during the 1600s
that required communities to care for the poor, but the national government did not contribute funds.
Similar programs sprang up in other European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand, by the
early 1900s. American attitudes about welfare changed during the Great Depression of the 1930s,
when up to a quarter of the workforce was unemployed. In 1935, the federal government passed the
Social Security Act, which provided limited retirement benefits to about 60 percent of American
workers. The government runs a number of programs to help the need. In Texas, people can pick up
basic goods provided by the state at a community center. During the 1980s, conservative politicians
began to call for welfare. Many countries also offer other types of benefits to their citizens, regardless
of need. Social Security was just the first of many welfare programs established by the U.S.
government. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), provide benefits in the form of cash.
It was created in 1996 to replace Aid to Families which the father was decreased, disabled, or absent.
Under TANF, by contrast, the federal government gives each state a lump sum of money, which the
state may spend in any way it considers appropriate to help needy families. The U.S. Department of
Agriculture administers the Food Stamp program, which provides low income people with coupons
that they can exchange for food. Various other U.S. programs provide additional services, such as food
aid for needy children, early childhood education, job training and assistance, support for disabled
veterans, and help with home energy costs. The U.S. Constitution does not contain such specific
requirements and the U.S. Supreme Court has never recognized a constitutional right to basic

Destruction In Ray Bradbury s The Illustrated Man
In the book The Illustrated Man, Ray Bradbury uses the theme of world destruction in several of his
stories: The Highway , The Last Night of the World , and Zero Hour . He expresses his opposition to
war to us through these four stories by writing of atom wars, and extra terrestrial conflicts and
annihilation. Through his writings, we see his views and stances on how the world has turned a blind
eye from equality and worldly respect to a more demanding and selfish state of mind. Ray Bradbury
starts the theme of world destruction in his book with the story, The Highway . In it, he talks about a
highway that is often bustling with cars despite being located in a quite desolate area. Near it is a

Painting Comparison Essay
In both art and science, the uses of color tend to play a role in how temperature is perceived. For art
blues can be perceived as cooler colors, while reds are perceived as warmer colors. But, while in
science the color order is in reverse, reds are perceived as cooler colors, while blues are perceived as
warmer colors. In this paper two different paintings will be discussed to see just how distinct colors
are used to perceive temperature.
The first painting that will be discussed is The Houses of Parliament from Westminster
Bridge by artist Andre Derain. Andre Derain was an artist that was a part of the Fauvism artistic
movement. Fauvism artist emphasized intense colors over the representational and realistic values
retained by artist of impressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Parliament in
London, and Turner decide to capture this event in his own view, and use the painting to represent
man s helplessness when confronted with the destructive powers of nature. In Turner s painting of The
Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to
give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the
center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays
give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. Which is good because it helps to represent the message
that Turner was trying to convey that man is helpless when confronted with the destruction of nature.
From both of these paintings we can see how color can be used to represent different temperatures. In
Andre Derain s painting The Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, the different temperature
of colors is used to give the feeling of brightness, warmth, and life.

Untranslatability from English to Romanian
INTRODUCTION The need for translation has always existed since the appearance of the human
being on the Earth. Translation is not only a way to explain what a language said to another, it is also a
way to present one culture to another. As to the notion of culture, Edward Burnett Tylor considers that
, culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs and many
other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society . This definition covers almost
every aspect of human s life and lays at the basis of most modern anthropological conceptions of
culture. Putting it simply, culture is rooted in history, it represents all the main peculiarities of a certain
group of people, it is defined by language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. In the
process of translation culture cannot be ignored. Each culture is unique, as a result, its language is also
unique, so when translating from one language into another we come across unique problems. It is
commonly considered that understanding the culture of a country is only by understanding what
people of that country are saying or writing. However, in practice, the fact that language is rooted in
culture is often forgotten. The bigger the cultural difference, the more difficult is to translate the
culture bound concepts. Dealing with untranslatable terms is not an easy task at all, it requires a lot of
knowledge, professionalism and even

Effects Of Physical Activity On Academic Performance
It is well known that exercise and physical activity have myriad positive effects and benefits on a
person s physical health. A similar concept to think about is the relationship between physical activity
and mental health, specifically academic performance. Through my research of studies, trials, and
reviews I believe that physical activity has a positive effect on academic performance, leading to
higher grade point averages, achievement in post compulsory education, and learning. To look at the
effects of physical activity on academic performance, researchers Kari, Pehkonen, Nen, Raitakari, and

Activity and Educational Outcomes, examining physical activity performed in leisure time outside of
school affected academic achievement throughout basic education and education obtained in
adulthood. The study looked at Finnish male and female children ages 12 and 15, and continued
collecting data until the subjects reached their 40s. The participants self reported their physical activity
in overall leisure time outside school hours, participation in sports club training sessions, and
participation in sports competitions. Academic performance was measured in the form of the grade

The Importance Of Employee Uniforms
Introduction Have you ever wondered why companies make their employees wear a specific uniform
or wear a specific style of pant and shirt? Well, there are many reasons why; one, the company may
use their uniform as part of their organization s colors. This allows the employee to feel they are part
of the organization and it allows the consumer to identify a company purely from the colors on a
uniform. Just within the past year, a sitcom television show called Superstore. Those who watch this
sitcom, quickly realizes how those who wrote the scripts and chose the actors clothing did so to poke
fun directly towards Wal Mart. Additionally, a person s physical appearance, such as piercings, tattoos,
and hair styles are all ways others associate them as a good or bad person, and clothing is no
exception. Whether it is in a business setting, a restaurant, or even a doctor s office, a person s
perception towards another is determined by initial contact. Despite a single office or profession;
employers need to consider a dress code to ensure the safety of all employees. Moreover, some
employees do not direct a dress code as a way to save operational costs, while some provide the
employees with a shirt and the employee must wear a specific type and color of pant. Sure, the dress
code for employees can be unattractive, however, the employer is not paying the person to look good

Rise Of The Robots Analysis
Essay 3: Rise of the Robots
In Mr. Martin Ford s Rise of the Robots, the author argues that the economic future is in danger due to
technology overtaking the workforce. As technology becomes smarter, they have taken over the jobs
that humans have previously done. However, it is not just simple tasks, but intricate tasks that require
multiple steps, such as brain surgery. Mr. Ford presents a valid argument of that at the rate that
technology is progressing, it will probably only be a few decades before robotics overtake the
workforce. Mr. Ford s main argument is that coming technology will have a profound impact on our
economics. Even today, we have automated robots doing tasks that, formally, humans couldn t
preform with such accuracy, such as self driving cars and even surgeries. Robots are able to assemble
other robots via the assembly lines. Increasingly, technology is advancing faster than humans in
discovering ways to complete tasks. Technology is becoming exponentially better at writing its own
programing, raising the question why could they not overtake all jobs currently performed by humans.
Surgery is a major example of how robots have surpassed the human capabilities, being able to
complete the procedure with minimal invasiveness. It is already unique enough for a robot to assemble
a washing machine, per say, but now they are able to perform tasks that humans cannot even
complete. More sophisticated robots are referred to as artificial

Coal burning is the human activity that is most greatly contributing to increased mercury levels.
34. See attached
35. Mercury wet deposition levels are highest in Florida, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas. This is most
probably due to these states having many coal burning power plants.
36. Largemouth bass and spotted bass exceed this limit.
37. Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, rock bass, spotted bass, pumpkinseed, rainbow cutthroat trout,
and brown trout exceed this limit. This mercury level is most probably lower than the level for
humans because humans are larger than many of the piscivorous mammals and are able to resist more
mercury. In addition, these mammals consume fish in much higher quantities.
38. Yes, on average the largemouth bass has a mercury level of about 0.45 ug/g, which is higher than
the recommended amount for humans.
39. The mercury concentrations were highest in sediment because while rain can distribute the
mercury and dilute it to some degree, the mercury that falls to the ground in sediment is deposited in
high concentrations, with little dilution.

Jung Typology Analysis
When taking the Jung typology test the profile I received was INFJ. In this profile, I stands for
introvert. What this means is that I tend to be more introverted, rather than extraverted. An example of
this is, a friend of mine was having a party and asked me to go. Since it was my friend s birthday I
decided to go. When I got to the party I realized that I wouldn t be able to talk to her very much
because of all the people there. I spent most of the night being very quiet and not starting up any
conversations. Whenever someone started talking to me, I would keep the conversation going of
course. After about an hour of uncomfortable socializing I decided to step out on her back porch for
some peace and quiet. I often find that when I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Humpback Whale Communication
Whales are highly intelligent creatures and possess many human like qualities such as the ability to
teach, learn, cooperate, and grieve. They communicate using echolocation, by which sounds are able
to travel for miles as the sound waves propagate in the water (Whale Communication and
Vocalizations, 2015). The sounds will echo back to the whale that sends them and this form of
communication can travel at a speed of one mile per second. Different species of whales take on
various forms of communication as is evident by the humpback whale, Megaptera novaeangliae, who
communicate by singing. Both male and female humpback whales vocalize, but only the males
produce the characteristically loud and complex song with distinct themes and melodies ... Show more

The communication between humpback whales of different regions is shown by a pattern of horizontal
transmission of multiple song types in an unidirectional pattern eastward through the populations in
the western and South Pacific over an 11 year period displays (Murray et al., 2012). Most song types
were first documented in the eastern Australian population and spread to New Caledonia and Tonga,
and then on to American Samoa, the Cook Islands, and finally to French Polynesia (Garland et al.,
2011). This example of cultural transmission of behavior was replicated in multiple populations in a
vast geographic region and the level and rate of change of this cultural transmission is unparalleled by
any other nonhuman animal (Murray et al., 2012). The vocal linkage between the Indian and South
Pacific Ocean basins raises the question of how far a single song type can be horizontally transmitted
and how adaptive humpback whales are to change in their habitat (Southern Indian ocean humpback
whales found singing different tunes, 2015). Investigating the underlying mechanisms of song
evolution may allow insights into the transmission of cultural traits and the evolution of culture and
behavior in humpback

Modern Femininity And Gender Roles
Though Hannah Höch may be a jack of all trades in the art realm having dabbled in painting, drawing,
printmaking, textiles, pattern making, and photography she certainly is a master of collage. A German
artist of the 20th century, Höch is primarily known for her turbulent romantic relationship with Czech
artist Raoul Hausmann, one of the founders of the Berlin Dada movement. Hausmann credited himself
and Höch as the inventors of photomontage. Höch uses her collages to comment and critique the
unstable sociopolitical state in Germany at the time. Her collages also highlight the growth of mass
media and new technology. Perhaps most importantly, Höch challenges the concept of modern
femininity and gender roles through her work. As the only female Berlin Dada artist, Hannah Höch
takes a unique and important perspective on the social and political changes occurring in 20th century
Germany. Höch was born in 1889 in Gotha, Germany. She moved to Berlin in 1912 to study
calligraphy, embroidery, wallpaper design, and graphic art (National Museum of Women in the Arts).
In 1915, she met Raoul Hausmann, with whom she had a seven year relationship. From 1916 to 1926,
she worked in the handicrafts department of a magazine and newspaper publishing company. Her
work included designing knitting, crocheting, and embroidering patterns. Later on, she incorporated
lace and embroidery patterns in her photomontages juxtaposing these traditional women s crafts with
modern culture. In 1926,

The Canadian Human Rights Act
Introduction
Discrimination is an action or decision that treats a person or group negatively for reasons such as
their race, sex, age or disability (Ministry of Justice [DOJ], 1985). Under the Canadian human right
act, there are 11 grounds a person may be discriminated against. These include race, national or ethnic
origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability and a
conviction for which a pardon has been granted or a record suspended (DOJ, 1985). Employment
discrimination happens when an employee is treated unfavorably because of said characteristics by
employers. It is illegal to discriminate in any aspect of employment, and this extends beyond just
hiring and firing. Society progresses and becomes enlightened overtime, but discrimination is still
quite common. There are many ways that a person could be discriminated against. The Canadian
Human Rights Act calls these discriminatory practices (DOJ, 1985). Examples of said practices
include: Excluding potential employees during recruitment, paying equally qualified employees in the
same position different salaries, discrimination when issuing promotions or lay offs, etc. Left
unattended, discrimination in the workplace can be costly. Victims suffer and employers experience a
loss of productivity, leading to damaged employee morals, and loss of profit. This report will outline
the most common types of discrimination encountered in the work place, the problem they cause,

Online Education Essay
Online Education
Education is an important part of people s lives; it will either make them or break them in the future
depending on the careers they choose. Education is greatly diverse today in comparison to the 1950s
because of advancements in teaching and other great inventions that provide easier techniques of
teaching. One major issue that has been raised is distant learning courses and online education. Distant
learning could be any format from VHS videos, DVDs, or internet courses online. Online education
has been legal since 1993 and is a new way of teaching students of all ages. Online education has been

Discussion on issues is done in chat rooms and forums where everybody writes their views on the
issue. This is an advantage for foreigners who can not speak proper English correctly. Live video and
sound can also be done with special equipment for a real time conversation with instructors and peers.
Other features on the online courses are the learning aides that can be used while taking the course.
Certain programs can be made such as flash cards and games which can increase the learning
experience of the student. These learning aides can be done on the student s time and does not require
the teacher to be there.
Time for a face to face class is very difficult if a person works 40 hours a week but an online course
can put an ease on the time restriction because the person does the work at their own pace and time. It
is also easier to sign up for an online class than a class at a college. Message boards are in use if the
students need to leave a question or a comment about the subject their on. They also save time by not
traveling to the college and trying to find a parking space.
Rural areas where students have to travel a great distance to get to class can save time and money by
doing online classes. For example, a child of a farmer can help the family out in the morning with the
farming chores then go to an online class later on. Rural kids may also take additional educational

Hoplite Warfare And Ancient Greece
Hoplite Warfare In Ancient Greece When one thinks of Ancient Greece, one does not typically think
of hoplite warfare. However, hoplite warfare is the quintessential factor in Greece becoming the
country that it is today. Without this warfare Greece would have fallen to a number of countries not
making Greece the independent country that it is today. Thus, making hoplite warfare the most
important aspect of Greek history.
As Greek population began to increase, city states began to increase as well. Along with the rise of
city states came to question a new form of warfare. This warfare is called hoplite warfare. Hoplite
warfare was formed c. 700 BC. Hoplites are a group of heavily armed soldiers. Hoplites are supported
on the left arm by a large round shield. Hoplites are also equipped in their right hand with a long
spear, six to eight feet long. Lastly, hoplites are equipped with a short sword.
Hoplites fight in an organized line called a phalanx. They would overlap their shields, thus producing
an impenetrable wall. This phalanx would be able to spread out into a line and place itself into valleys
or between mountains, causing their enemy to have to go through them rather than around. This
phalanx would work very well within Greece due to the geography of Greece itself. Greece has many
mountains and valleys that work well for this type of warfare. Throughout this paper you will learn
why hoplite warfare is the single most effective type of warfare in Greek history.

Analysis Of The 17th And 17th Centuries By Ben Jonson
Plagiarism in the 17th and 18th Centuries
A line that appears on the cover page of Poetaster: A Comical Satyr, written in 1601 by Ben Jonson
(1572 1637), the English dramatist and poet, had appeared earlier in Martial s Book VII, Verse 12, an
epigram consisting of 99 verses. We know that Jonson used ideas taken from Ovid (Publius Ovidius
Naso, 43 BCE CE 17), Horace, and Seneca and that his name appears in investigations of plagiarism
in English literature. According to one source, Jonson invented the pejorative term playwright in 1687
to describe someone who had put together the work of others. Jonson alluded to the works of Horace
and Virgil and to Rome. Jonson wrote that the name Canidia was but a borrowed name and that the
ditty was borrowed. The words were Horace s, he stated, Hang him plagiary. This use of the term
plagiary appeared in 1601. It referred to someone who forcefully possessed another. It had appeared
earlier, in 1555, as plagiaire (French), and, in 1577, as plagium (Latin), translated as a net to entangle
game, but was used in English Civil Law when referring to kidnapping or man stealing. It appeared
also in July 1607, when Thomas Legge, Master of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, referred to
the fact that someone had kidnapped his ideas for a play, The Destruction of Jerusalem. The use of
Latin or French was common among the educated and upper classes of that time, many of whom
would have been familiar with one or both languages. Alexander Pope

The Roaring Twenties In the 1920 s, America was evolving into a fun, carefree, and entertaining

lavish lives, and new opportunities through new technology and inventions. However, although
America seemed to be well off at the time and enjoying life, it was only a slight cover up. Inside the
country, there was turmoil which included debt and war. For this reason, America earned the
reputation of the 1920 s as the Roaring Twenties due to the positive outcomes of the economic

resilience of a man who has claimed his place in the world as a true cowboy. In his journey John s

However, he doesn t see beyond the repercussions of owning a ranch, the dedication and responsibility
associated with running a ranch. Mr. Franklin teaches him to look beyond the fact that owning a ranch
is a not as simple as it might seem especially for a six teen year old boy.
In his journey across the landscape of Mexico, John s character in the novel begins to transform. He is
beginning to move away from that boyish and naive kind of behavior and more towards the middle
stage of between being a boy and a man; adolescence. McCarthy spends a great deal in describing
John s adolescent s stage in this novel. Much of the time that McCarthy describes in this stage is when
they are out on the prairie with the horses connecting with nature. This connection allows John to have
and a clearer understanding that there is a divine line between men and horses and that you can t apply
the same characteristics that you would apply to a horse to a man. In one instance, after a long day of
riding John and Rawlins decide to stop for the night and rest. As he rests he lays on his back looking,
out where the quartermoon lay cocked over the heel of the mountain s the vision of the moon gives the
reader a sense of time and how it can be different from time on the prairie compared to time in a
society.. Time on the prairie seems to be cocked or suspended in time, a sense that time

Myers, S.C. (1984). Finance Theory and Financial Strategy . Interfaces, 14.
Introduction
This journal explained how to bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory. Myers
wrote this journal to explain why finance analysis had only slight impact on strategic planning, even
though strategic planning needs finance. Strategic and financial analysis are not reconciled. When low
net present value (NPV) projects are nurtured for strategic reasons, the strategic analysis overrides
measures of financial value, and vice versa.
Relevant Financial Theory
The financial concepts most relevant to strategic planning are those dealing with firms capital
investment decisions. To select the projects to be financed, we calculate ... Show more content on

There is also a lesson for current appli cations of finance theory to strategic is sues. Several new
approaches to financial strategy use a simple, traditional DCF model of the firm, [For example,
Fruhan 1979, Ch. 2]. These approaches are likely to be more useful for cash cows than for growth
businesses with substantial risk and intangible assets. The option value of growth and intangibles is
not ignored by good managers even when conventional financial techniques miss them. These values
may be brought in as strategic factors, dressed in non financial clothes. Dealing with the time series
links between capital investments, and with the option value these links create, is often left to strategic
planners. But new developments in finance theory promise to help.
Conclusion
Myers argued that the standard discounted cash flow techniques will tend to understate the option
value attached to growing, profitable lines of business. To bridge the gap between strategic planning
and finance theory, Myers suggested that the financial theorist need to apply existing finance theory
correctly and extend the theory on real option pricing to model time series interactions between
investments. Both sides should reconcile financial and strategic analysis to uncover hidden
assumptions to have deeper understanding on strategic

Nuclear Advancements After the Manhattan Project
When the first atomic bomb was detonated in Alamogordo New Mexico on June 16, 1945, all the
scientists involved in the Manhattan Project understood the great destructive power of radio active
isotopes. Although the atomic bomb was a very destructive force our world would not be as good
without it. Because of the government funding involved in the project coupled with the need for an
atom bomb, much research that otherwise may not have occurred took place in the US. The Manhattan

The Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) consists of irradiating laboratory reared male insects before
hatching, to sterilize them. The sterilized males are then released in large numbers in the infested
areas. When they mate with females, no offspring are produced. With repeated releases of sterilized
males, the population of the insect pest in a given area is drastically reduced. The largest SIT
operations so far have been conducted in Mexico against the Mediterranean fruit fly and the
screwworm. In 1981 the Medfly operation was declared a complete success, and by 1991 the
screwworm eradication had yielded some 3 billion US dollars in benefits to the economy.
People also benefit from atomic research in the medical field. Many people are aware of the wide use
of radiation and radioisotopes in medicine. Nuclear medicine mostly uses radioisotopes which emit
gamma rays from within the body. Estimates show that about one out of every three hospital patients

Sartre s Existentialism And Existentialism
As a continuation of the course assignment, in the following paper, I shall examine Sartre s
Existentialism is a Humanism and give a framework of concepts and reasons as to why it is
existentialist in nature. Whereas the last paper chronologically organized Sartre s life and experiences,
this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and interpretation of
his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German occupation,
Existentialism is a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where questions about
morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any many other) people.
Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean
Paul Sartre s work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term
Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After
rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify
just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian
detractors.
Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism, the
first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker of
Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept

Blindness And Socialism
Blindness
Blindness by Jose Saramago is a piece that shows many examples of political ideologies. The two
most prominent being conservatism and socialism. Now, Jose Saramago being a prominent believer in
the ideas of socialism as a whole, it is no surprise that his book Blindness includes many scenes that
portray, in favor, the fundamental concepts of socialist beliefs. This includes the variety of the people
who were blinded and the cooperation and organization of the main party involved. But, it is
interesting to point out that he also includes examples of the beliefs of conservatism but also scenes
where he criticizes it. This can be shown in scenes like when the food starts being stolen in quarantine
and in the rise in the leadership of the man with the gun.
A concept of socialism is that everyone should be equal and that there should be no class distinctions
based on ownership to promote an equal playing field for all members of society. We see this concept

Socialists believe that cooperation and groups are preferred over competition and individualism. This
cooperation results in strengthened bonds within the community and this is exactly what we see

get food. Even if they do not want to, they do it for the collective good. Not one of them stays behind,
and when they return they all shower together and this shows the growing bond between them.
Another example is when they escape the compound and decide to stick together because they realized
there is nothing left for them in their homes and that they are better off with each other. This

NaCl, for example would add 1 mole of Na+ and 1 mole of Cl ions when dissolved in water, adding 2
moles of particles. In this case i=2). C is the concentration. In this case it would be 0 M, 0.2 M, 0.4 M,
0.6 M, 0.8 M, or 1.0 M. R is the pressure constant, which is always 0.0831. T is the temperature in °K.
This is calculated by adding 273+°C. ψs Can then be used in the water potential formula to calculate
the water potential. There does not appear to be any extremely major outliers. Possible error include
not completely drying off the outside of the dialysis tubes. This could lead to sucrose getting into the
distilled water of the beaker, lowering the water potential.
This graph shows that there is a positive linear trend between molar concentration and percent change
in mass. The trend line is in between most of the data points, and the data points are fairly close to the
line of best fit. At 0.0 M, 0.2 M and 0.8 M the data from the individual group and the class average are
almost, if not exactly identical. The percent changes at 0.0 M are 1.22% for the individual group,
0.99% for the class average, at 0.2 M there was a 8.16% change

Causation of Female Gang Involvement Essay
Many years of research have gone into studying why youth turns to gang involvement. A sector of this
population has only recently been a focus of any study at all and that is the female. From the authors
De La Rue, Espelage research they estimate that female gang membership is anywhere from 10 to
35% of the total gang population (De La Rue, Espelage 2014 pg. 1). There are many pieces that drive
females to join the gang lifestyle. There are three major causes that drive females to gang
involvement; family influences, relationship drives, and prior victimization. Being born into the gang
life proves that nature verses nurture and the family has an impact on what an individual will become.

2009. Pg. 278). This shows growing up in a gang the child will associate basically a blood bond
between themselves and their gang because of how much of their family is involved. Risk factors that
deal with a females family is that it can leave her in a vulnerable state because the men around them
take advantage of the females at weaker states. Many of the females who are in gangs have been the
victims of many levels of abuse throughout their life and they believe if they turn to gangs for
additional support. Conflict within families drives females into the grasps of gangs because the female
is looking for a group to protect and provide support for them. From the authors De La Rue, Espelage:
Research specific to female gang members has shown that family risk factors, including poor parental
supervision, and high levels of family conflict, have been linked to an increased risk of gang
involvement... (De La Rue, Espelage 2014 pg.3). This quote explains how family conflict can lead
into a female being at a higher risk of joining a gang. Conflict with the family can lead a female to
want to leave their parents households to be able to have independence from an abuse or rules. A point
from the author Fleisher proves that, Once independent of her family, a youth needs her peer network
more than ever. Depending on network dynamics, youth can

Mining Into Destruction Of The United States
Mining into Destruction

Mining into Devastation
Introduction
Mining affects the lives of millions of Americans every day. Although the United
States has a large amount of coal remaining to be mined and burned, almost three fourths of the public
land in America has been declared off limits for mining. Mountaintop mining is a relatively new form
of surface mining that has steadily gained popularity. The debate as to whether or not this process is an
economic necessity or environmental disaster for Kentuckians is the question. Undoubtedly, it is an
environmental disaster and it should be removed in every state that they are using it not to mention the
health hazards. One report found states, Although dozens of new coal burning power plants are
planned or under construction, the latest coal boom is meeting resistance from critics who want to
shift the U.S. economy toward cleaner fuels. Even if electricity from coal is cheaper than other
sources, they argue, the savings are far outweighed by its environmental and health impacts (Isabella,
2013).
Personal Impact As a child, during many of my families travels, we went through the Appalachian
Mountains through West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. These places were breathtaking. The
rolling hills and deep green forestry stood with such enchantment. About 25 years later my family

Describe How The Air Conditioner Unit Has Impacted My Life
The heater or air conditioner unit has impacted my life this past week in a good way. It has impacted
my life in a good way because these past few weeks it has been very cold and a storm has even came
through this side of the country. We had a lot of ice and some snow which of course is really cold so
because of my heating unit that is outside of my house I was warm the entire weekend. Even when the
roads had cleared up it was still chilly outside, I was thankful that I had heat in my car as well to keep
me warm as I drove to work the next day. Without a heater or air conditioning unit at my house and in
my car it would have been as cold on the inside as it was outside making my weekend very
uncomfortable. The air conditioner is also really

Corruption may undermine the fight against terrorism by draining public resources, and trust in government institutions. As one scholar puts it, corruption begets distrust, which begets disorder, which breeds a host of other evils. The expectation is that countries or regimes in the developing world witnessing an aggravated grand corruption will have difficulties curbing terrorism. Comprehending how illegal and corrupt behavior cause systemic damage to national security is essential to how states, especially, weaker states, plan to defeat terrorism. It will also aid the international community to know how and where to direct foreign assistance and military aid to countries battling against terrorism. As this study seeks to explain how grand corruption underlies CT campaigns, it is important to establish the study s boundaries. Terrorism is a loaded term, and its definition is questioned. Despite it being analytically elusive and a highly contested term, for the purpose of this research, it embodies a systematic use of indiscriminate violence directed at civilian to influence a wider audience. The violent component is asymmetric, and the mode of deployment of the force falls outside the forms of political struggles such as insurgency and civil wars. Do we need to harmonize the accounting standards of different bodies? Different companies observe it from published annual accounts of various Indian companies that there are divergent accounting practices for the same transaction. This in effect is defeating the comparability of financial statements. The reasons for the different accounting practices may be: a) Too many alternative accounting treatments in the accounting standards; b) Lack of harmony among government, standards setting body, and regulatory agencies; * Adoption of different accounting standards causes difficulties in making relative evaluation of performance of companies. This phenomenon hinders the valuation and consequently the decision making process. * To overcome these problems, harmonization of accounting standards has already been started. Accounting harmonization is not an end by itself, but it is a means to an end. The ultimate objective of harmonizing accounting practices among countries is to foster international comparability of accounts. * But still the harmonization process has a long way to go. Many standard setting bodies and regulators of different nations are ardent protectors of their local standards; they are in no mood to allow their job being taken over by a foreign entity. * Thus winning the consent of these bodies is vital for international accounting standards to don the mantle of ... How to control future welfare spending without cutting benefits so much that large numbers of people fall into poverty. Before the 1900s,most governments played a mirror role in ensuring social welfare. Through his writings, we see his views and stances on how the world has turned a blind eye from equality and worldly respect to a more demanding and selfish state of mind. For art blues can be perceived as cooler colors, while reds are perceived as warmer colors. But, while in science the color order is in reverse, reds are perceived as cooler colors, while blues are perceived as warmer colors. In this paper two different paintings will be discussed to see just how distinct colors are used to perceive temperature. In Turner s painting of The Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. • 10. Untranslatability from English to Romanian INTRODUCTION The need for translation has always existed since the appearance of the human being on the Earth. Translation is not only a way to explain what a language said to another, it is also a way to present one culture to another. As to the notion of culture, Edward Burnett Tylor considers that , culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs and many other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society . This definition covers almost every aspect of human s life and lays at the basis of most modern anthropological conceptions of culture. Putting it simply, culture is rooted in history, it represents all the main peculiarities of a certain group of people, it is defined by language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. In the process of translation culture cannot be ignored. Each culture is unique, as a result, its language is also unique, so when translating from one language into another we come across unique problems. It is commonly considered that understanding the culture of a country is only by understanding what people of that country are saying or writing. However, in practice, the fact that language is rooted in culture is often forgotten. The bigger the cultural difference, the more difficult is to translate the culture bound concepts. Rise Of The Robots Analysis Essay 3: Rise of the Robots In Mr. Martin Ford s Rise of the Robots, the author argues that the economic future is in danger due to technology overtaking the workforce. As technology becomes smarter, they have taken over the jobs that humans have previously done. However, it is not just simple tasks, but intricate tasks that require multiple steps, such as brain surgery. Mr. Ford presents a valid argument of that at the rate that technology is progressing, it will probably only be a few decades before robotics overtake the workforce. Mr. Ford s main argument is that coming technology will have a profound impact on our economics. Even today, we have automated robots doing tasks that, formally, humans couldn t preform with such accuracy, such as self driving cars and even surgeries. Robots are able to assemble other robots via the assembly lines. Increasingly, technology is advancing faster than humans in discovering ways to complete tasks. Technology is becoming exponentially better at writing its own programing, raising the question why could they not overtake all jobs currently performed by humans. Surgery is a major example of how robots have surpassed the human capabilities, being able to complete the procedure with minimal invasiveness. We know that Jonson used ideas taken from Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso, 43 BCE CE 17), Horace, and Seneca and that his name appears in investigations of plagiarism in English literature. According to one source, Jonson invented the pejorative term playwright in 1687 to describe someone who had put together the work of others. Jonson alluded to the works of Horace and Virgil and to Rome. Jonson wrote that the name Canidia was but a borrowed name and that the ditty was borrowed. Mr. Franklin teaches him to look beyond the fact that owning a ranch is a not as simple as it might seem especially for a six teen year old boy. In his journey across the landscape of Mexico, John s character in the novel begins to transform. He is beginning to move away from that boyish and naive kind of behavior and more towards the middle stage of between being a boy and a man; adolescence. McCarthy spends a great deal in describing John s adolescent s stage in this novel. Much of the time that McCarthy describes in this stage is when they are out on the prairie with the horses connecting with nature. This connection allows John to have and a clearer understanding that there is a divine line between men and horses and that you can t apply the same characteristics that you would apply to a horse to a man. In one instance, after a long day of riding John and Rawlins decide to stop for the night and rest. Introduction This journal explained how to bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory. Myers wrote this journal to explain why finance analysis had only slight impact on strategic planning, even though strategic planning needs finance. Strategic and financial analysis are not reconciled. When low net present value (NPV) projects are nurtured for strategic reasons, the strategic analysis overrides measures of financial value, and vice versa. Relevant Financial Theory The financial concepts most relevant to strategic planning are those dealing with firms capital investment decisions. To select the projects to be financed, we calculate ... Several new approaches to financial strategy use a simple, traditional DCF model of the firm, [For example, Fruhan 1979, Ch. 2]. These approaches are likely to be more useful for cash cows than for growth businesses with substantial risk and intangible assets. The option value of growth and intangibles is not ignored by good managers even when conventional financial techniques miss them. These values may be brought in as strategic factors, dressed in non financial clothes. Dealing with the time series links between capital investments, and with the option value these links create, is often left to strategic planners. But new developments in finance theory promise to help. Conclusion Myers argued that the standard discounted cash flow techniques will tend to understate the option value attached to growing, profitable lines of business. To bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory, Myers suggested that the financial theorist need to apply existing finance theory correctly and extend the theory on real option pricing to model time series interactions between investments. Both sides should reconcile financial and strategic analysis to uncover hidden assumptions to have deeper understanding on strategic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sterilized males are then released in large numbers in the infested areas. When they mate with females, no offspring are produced. The largest SIT operations so far have been conducted in Mexico against the Mediterranean fruit fly and the screwworm. In 1981 the Medfly operation was declared a complete success, and by 1991 the screwworm eradication had yielded some 3 billion US dollars in benefits to the economy. Nuclear medicine mostly uses radioisotopes which emit gamma rays from within the body. Estimates show that about one out of every three hospital patients benefits in some way from the use of nuclear medicine. Just think, every time you have an X ray taken you are benefiting from nuclear research. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German occupation, Existentialism is a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where questions about morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any many other) people. Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean Paul Sartre s work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian detractors. Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism, the first of which is that existence precedes essence . This includes the variety of the people who were blinded and the cooperation and organization of the main party involved. But, it is interesting to point out that he also includes examples of the beliefs of conservatism but also scenes where he criticizes it. This can be shown in scenes like when the food starts being stolen in quarantine and in the rise in the leadership of the man with the gun. In this case i=2). C is the concentration. In this case it would be 0 M, 0.2 M, 0.4 M, 0.6 M, 0.8 M, or 1.0 M. R is the pressure constant, which is always 0.0831. T is the temperature in °K. Possible error include not completely drying off the outside of the dialysis tubes. This could lead to sucrose getting into the distilled water of the beaker, lowering the water potential.
