Budget Cuts In Schools
Seeming insignificant and being seen as an unreliable and an inconsistent source of money, classes
such as art, poetry, or drama get cut. For these classes of which have been an inspiration to many
artists to be let go, the school must undergo budget cuts. Negatively affecting the learning
environment, budget cuts have been public enemy number one in schools worldwide. Due to these
cuts teachers get laid off and those students who were in that class go on to other classes, essentially,
doubling the original class size. However, what do we do about those who seem to enjoy the arts
provided by their school? Let alone, those who have become inspired and envision becoming world
renown someday? Decreasing desires and disregardment of the importance

Essay on CRIMES Are Committed By...CRIMINALS, Guns Are Not...
Calls for more gun control came after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown,
Connecticut where 20 school students and 6 adults were killed by a man with an assault rifle (Cary).
Soon after the school massacre, President Obama proposed a ban assault rifles and high capacity
magazines and make background checks tougher (Cary). A protest movement called Guns Across
America was the pro gun response in January 2013 to the wave of calls for more gun control
(Weissert). I would take the poster to a Guns Across America event at the Texas State capital. With my
poster, I m protesting any action from the government which will control and restrict the rights of law

Any debate on crime needs to focus on crime prevention and not the guns of law abiding citizens.
Controlling guns is not a crime prevention strategy, it only prevents the those who are physically
weaker than their attackers like women, elderly, and disabled from defending themselves against
bigger, faster and stronger aggressors. Since crime and gun control are serious issues,I used a white
poster board for a simple background and red and black permanent markers to convey that
seriousness. Since the words crimes and criminals go to together and are central to my argument, I
made them both bold, in all caps, and in red so they are the most eye catching. Red is also associated
with blood, so by making criminals red instead of guns I m also indicating what really causes people
to bleed; other people. The the first and last phrases are where I set up my argument and draw my
conclusions, so they are important and therefore bold as well. The first three checklist options are for
comparison only and are not as central to my argument so they are not in bold letters. I am trying to
reach and convince people who don t agree with me, are unsure about the issue, don t have strong
feeling about it, and especially those who don t understand the issue. By using a checklist, I m trying
to explain the core of the issue and my position on it as simply and as clearly as possible. Even if
someone has never thought much about the issue or has not considered my side of it,

I Am An African American Woman Born
I am an African American woman born in raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I lived in the inner city of
Milwaukee until I was about eight years old, and shortly after we moved to the Village of River Hills.
My mother grew up in the city of Milwaukee also. My father grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and
moved to Wisconsin when he was ten years old. Growing up, I traveled from Milwaukee to
Mississippi at least seven times a year. Initally, while visiting it was a culture shock for me. My
grandmother drove the School bus and lived on a farm. She had many horses as pets and as a means
for transportation. In Mississippi I l learned that is was not ok to call adults by there first name and it

I understand it is essential that I become aware of my own cultural background to effectively provide
the best care to my patients. A nurse cannot provide appropriate cultural care without having
knowledge and a basic understanding of cultural competency.
What I ve learned about myself after reflecting upon practices, values, and biases After taking the
cultural competence self test assessment from the intercultural engagement resource, I feel that I am
more culturally competent than most but I still have more learning to do. This assessment helped me
realize my place on the trajectory to being cultural competent. I am a strong believer that people are
more receptive to their own culture, so I try to adapt to other cultures by learning things about it. I
never intentionally try to impose my values on anyone that may be inconsistent with their culture. By
taking care of patients from different cultures, it opened my eyes and made me realize medical
attention and health education varies amongst different cultures. After taking the survey I also learned
to be a culturally competent nurse, I must not show any bias to my own culture. The assessment
helped me examine my own biases and prejudices toward my own cultures and others. This
assessment also helped me identify areas in which I need to improve to provide quality services to

My Experience Of Going To New York City
I was called into my parent s room one day, only to be informed that I was going to one of the most
substantial cities in the world. I was going to New York City. Being in such a significant city was
never in mind for me. Up until the summer of 2017. In the days leading up to me attending to one of
the possibly biggest days of my life, I had such aspirations for going. Soon, the day had finally come. I
was going there, and it was truly happening. I woke up at 4 AM and headed out for the bus station to
board and leave. After a few hours of riding, the bus driver finally announced that we d be there within
minutes. The anticipation I had was growing bigger and stronger by the second. I then look to my left
only to see such a great landscape of the city. I was finally there. I depart from the bus, and I was
surrounded by tens of hundreds of people roaming the streets. Numerous yellow taxi cabs came across
my view, followed by endless sounds of car horns honking. I was astonished by the city already, but I
had a goal in mind that I wanted to do first, and that was to go see the Empire State Building. I walked
around just a couple of blocks only to see such an extensive building. I was by far one of the biggest
things I had ever seen. I was welcomed to the building by a man wearing a suit, standing by the door.
As I walked in, I was amazed by the inside. I walk into an elevator and watched the numbers on the
screen go higher and higher, all the way to the eighty sixth floor. I

Transit Oriented Development ( Tod ) Essay
Introduction
Transit Oriented Development (TOD) began as a counter movement to urban sprawl and it s
economic, social, and environmental impacts by moving more towards the garden city movement of
the 19th century be designating areas for specific land use, while also, employing the design of
multiuse buildings. By looking at the greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area there is a need to
accommodate for future cities by employing community and regional design concepts.

The future of living is cities. Somehow the ancients understood it, but Americans in the 1950s decided
cities were a thing of the past. The movement from the city to the suburb has been one of the single
most expensive cultural migrations in world history. There is much more than the initial cost of a
house with a yard. There are the environmental costs that accumulate from the destruction of wildlife
from both, building materials and the clearing of area for the physical house. This initial cost also does
not account for the supermarkets, and roads needed to sustain life in these suburban areas separated
into pods. What about the costs of a car needed for transportation in these metropolises, and all their
external costs as well? Those are not accounted for either, but suburban living was the American
Dream for nearly half a century. However, as the American Dream, and family models, change there is
an evident need for living conditions to change as well. There is not a singular way to design a city,

Essay on Unauthorized Absence
This article is designed to cover every case not elsewhere provided for in which any member of the
armed forces is through the member s own fault not at the place where the member is required to be at
a prescribed time. It is not necessary that the person be absent entirely from military jurisdiction and
control. The first part of this article relating to the appointed place of duty applies whether the place is
appointed as a rendezvous for several or for one only.
The offenses of failure to go to and going from appointed place of duty require proof that the accused
actually knew of the appointed time and place of duty. The offense of absence from unit, organization,

(e) Unauthorized absence with the intent to avoid maneuvers or field exercises (special type of duty
and specific intent). A member of the armed forces turned over to the civilian authorities upon request
is not absent without leave while held by them under that delivery. When a member of the armed
forces, being absent with leave, or absent without leave, is held, tried, and acquitted by civilian
authorities, the member s status as absent with leave, or absent without leave, is not thereby changed,
regardless how long held. The fact that a member of the armed forces is convicted by the civilian
authorities, or adjudicated to be a juvenile offender, or the case is diverted out of the regular criminal
process for a probationary period does not excuse any unauthorized absence, because the member s
inability to return was the result of willful misconduct. If a member is released by the civilian
authorities with out trial, and was on authorized leave at the time of arrest or detention, the member
may be found guilty of unauthorized absence only if it is proved that the member actually committed
the offense for which detained, thus establishing that the absence was the result of the member s own

Peace Is Complex And Multi Faceted. Peace
The notion of peace is complex and multi faceted. Peace is not merely the absence of hostility,
violence or war, but encompasses a larger concept wherein there are various contributing factors such
as healthy international relationships, security in matters of global or economic welfare and equality
and fairness in political relationships. The nature of peace is also tied to concerns of the causes for it s
loss be them social justice, economic inequality or political and religious radicalism. By responding to
these causes, Christianity and Islam reflect Fulghum s statement innumerous peace organisations,
vocal individuals and guidance to inner and world peace are common in both traditions, the basis for
which can be found in their holy texts. In many ways, religion is an ideology a path to peace. As such,
Christianity and Islam, sharing a common foundation as traditions of peace, strive to promote and
create this through both their adherents personal lives, and indeed throughout the world. In the
Christian tradition, it is believed that inner peace is essential to the realisation of peace on Earth; the
concept of inner, spiritual peace as literally embodied in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ ,1 as
he told the disciples In me you may have peace (John 16:33). Jesus extended peace to those who were
in strife, and required us to follow him by ...making every effort to live in peace and harmony with all

In The Woman in the Zoot Suit: Gender, Nationalism, and the Cultural Politics of Memory, Catherine
Ramirez discuses the invisibility of the Chicana women in Chicano movement. For instance in 500
Years of Chicana Womens History, Elizabeth Sutherland Martínez, gives us an example of how
important Chicanas were to not only the Chicano movement, but to the United States Military as well.
The largest number were in the Women s Army Corps (WAC) (Martínez, 81). Ramirez argues that U.S
culture and wartime, as well as Chicano movement have excluded the involvement of pachucas, due to
the intimidating gender roles. According to Ramirez pachucas test the leading philosophies of

Agonists are drugs with affinity for a receptor that cause a specific response. (Colbert, 2016, pg26)
Beta2 adrenergic receptor agonists are a class of medications that cause muscle unwinding. It causes

Dissociative Experience During Childbirth

whether or not labor pain, traumatic childbirth, obstetrical variables, and previous trauma were part of

number of years the women spent in school was 8.8yrs. More than half (59.2%), did not complete high

not being happy with the maternity care, not having a job, a lot of pain, and education levels. A total of

Comparing Gilgamesh And Amarna Letters
In the Babylonian pantheon, Nabu, son of Marduk, invented bestowed the art of writing in cuneiform

people kept records of trades and inventories, wrote chronicles of their kings, epics depicting
legendary characters like Gilgamesh, and sonnets to recite to worship their gods. While many could
stake some claim to basic literacy, scribes were the only ones able to truly master the language afters
year of practice, leading to information on the daily lives of Babylonians being omitted from our
knowledge. However, kings had the luxury of personal scribes, and would utilize them to write letters
to their foreign kings. One such example is the Amarna letters, a series of correspondence between

White Tigers From The Woman Warrior Essay
Maxine Hong Kingston once said, I ve been writing since I was 7, but before that, I was orally making
stories. This quote expresses Kingston s fervor for writing and storytelling outside of her short story
White Tigers from the Woman Warrior , which emphasizes the importance of literature, which is her
art, by retelling her own childhood as the fairy tale of the Woman Warrior, Fa Mu Lan, and connecting
it back to her own life. The introductory paragraphs, coupled with the word carving scene and the
concluding final paragraphs, evoke Fa Mu Lan and present Maxine s life as analogous to Fa Mu Lan s
life story. While it is understood that they did not know each other, Maxine complicates this
relationship , for lack of a better word, by using a first person narrative as opposed to a third person
narrative while retelling the fairy tale , which in turn complicates subjectivity of Maxine, and the
relationship between Maxine and Fa Mu Lan. Moreover, the words in the word carving scene in the
middle of the fairy tale are double symbols of suffering and of perfect filiality, which is a trait
common in Chinese culture. By and large, these early on passages, and each section from there on,
and the word cutting scene, utilize the literary devices of point of view and central symbol to influence
the audience to acknowledge Maxine s claim that Fa Mu Lan is her model, and that she, Maxine, is
fruitful in taking after her case since they both have words at their backs.

Grace Nichols Island Man
The mood of this poem is very soothing and is a sense of relaxation and security. Grace Nichols is
showing that the island mans first home is the Caribbean. the steady breaking and wombing. The word
wombing is a made up word by the writer. It has many associations but it makes us the readers
imagine a place of comfort and security but more importantly a sense of home and belonging. The
reason why this image is put in to the readers mind is because babies grow in the mothers womb, so
we could say that the womb is everyone s first home . The word wombing can also mean his mother
land.
The first line in this poem is only taken up by one word, morning this may represent a peaceful
approach to the day. I came to this conclusion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This signals to the reader that he is not actually in this place. This makes me imagine that he carries
his homeland in his head. This also gives you an idea that island man is both in London and
Caribbean.
The writer makes us envision a scene of beauty and only something we can dream of. The scene is
also revealed as precious to the island man. small emerald island portrays that the island is an emerald.
An emerald is very hard to get and in many cases people could only dream of getting one. The writer
uses a technique called a metaphor. The reason why the writer uses this technique is because it allows
the reader to imagine the scene better. For example the writer compares an emerald with the island .
Emeralds can be green this then represents green tress and most islands usually have a lot of trees.
Grace Nichols describes the sun as a positive image. the sun surfacing defiantly makes the reader
picture an image of the sun climbing in to the sky. The word defiantly allows the sun to stand out. sun
surfacing defiantly could also represent that he doesn t want the sun to rise, he just wants to lye here in
his small island and just relax but know matter what he does the sun still rises.
Another technique the poet uses is something called sibilance which is a repetitive s sound. The sound
of the s is actually trying to recreate the sounds of the island as well as having the mellow imagery of
the blue surf. One of the examples the letter s creates

THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX
Abstract
Over many years, the views of premarital sex have been becoming increasingly more tolerant. The
whole reasoning behind why sex was created is lost in the minds of society and used for pleasure and
own physical satisfaction. There are negative consequences for these actions leading to guilt,
depression, and numbness to intimate relationships. Having strong parental influence can also strongly
affect the outcomes of adolescence and causal sex. Additionally, marriage can be ... Show more

Hence, even if there may be a motivation for casual sex because of developing one s script or fulfilling
a man s physical satisfaction and a women s intimacy in a relationship, there are the same emotional
effects and negative outcomes that result from taking part in premarital sex. An action that was
morally right would not have
THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX negative emotional and psychological
consequences, which would conclude casual sex was not intended to be done before marriage. There
is also another consequence for participating in casual sex such as disturbance in later marriage.
Sexual scripts can be written prior to marriage, providing knowledge about their own abilities, leading
to a stable marriage because they may be able to make more informed choices concerning marriage. It
is also very likely for someone to misunderstand physical intimacy with emotional potential, leading
to disruption in marriage and make worse marital choices (Kahn, London, 1991).
How is Marriage Effected? In today s society, adolescents have a positive opinion about cohabitation
before marriage. The view of marriage as an institution has faded and cohabitation has taken a new
part of this culture (Martin, Specter, Martin, amp; Martin, 2003). It has often been questioned whether
or not premarital sexual activity causes marriages to be disrupted. According to Teachman, Premarital
sex and cohabitation has not

Verne s characters prove that masculinity, if anything, is dependent on a mastery of both mental
integrity and physical strength. Situationally, both forms of masculinity can be useful, or dangerous.
Conseil, perhaps the least masculine character, given his submissive role as an aid to Arronax,
embodies the danger s of this neo masculinity best. While searching for specimens Arronax and

you can end up, trading a shell for the life of a man . While Conseil embodies physical and mental
masculinity in this action, it is deeply flawed, and morally dangerous.

Patient-Therapist Relationship Analysis
When looking at the first process recording, while there were many skills that could have been
developed, there were some skills I used that fit the client well. This patient had just moved from
Puerto Rico to the Brockton area due to a domestic violence situation. The man who had abused her
was the father of her children and had recently gotten out of jail. Because of his recent release, she
never felt safe wherever she was and decided to leave. However, the transition from Puerto Rico to the
United States is not proving easy for her and she has many concerns. One of her more pressing
concerns was not having winter clothes for herself and her three children. Because of the children s
sizes, there was not much her scatter site shelter could provide her with. Therefore, she was referred to
the agency that I am placed at. When first meeting with this patient, I contracted with her; letting her
know who I was, where I was from, what I could do for as a social worker in the OPD, and my role in
facilitating change for her and her children. In contracting, ...the social worker makes clear the service
to be offered, identifies the client s felt needs, identifies the potential common ground between service
and needs, describes the worker s role, and addresses issues related to the worker s formal or informal
authority (Shulman, 97). However, even though I feel as though I properly contracted with her, I knew

Analysis of the Movie Doctor Zhivago Essay
Analysis of the Movie Doctor Zhivago
Doctor Zhivago is a historically accurate movie. It is a love story that takes place during the Russian
Revolution, World War One, and the Russian Civil War. Doctor Zhivago is historically correct because
of the events it represents, the people the actors portray, and the level of detail put into the setting. At
the beginning of the movie, there is a scene showing a man handing out flyers asking workers to join
him in a peaceful march to protest against the Tsar. The man s name is Pasha. He is an ordinary
worker who believes to reform Russia there must be a complete revolution of thought and action.

Gapon was the organizer and leader of the Bloody Sunday march. He too escaped with his life. After
Bloody Sunday , he sent a letter the Tsar of Russia saying, The innocent blood of workers, their wives

one of the leaders of the uprising. In Doctor Zhivago, Laura s fiancé changes his name from Pasha to
Strelnikauf and becomes a leader of the uprising too. Gapon and Strelinkauf are quite similar in their
actions and beliefs. Nine years after the Bloody Sunday Massacre , Russia becomes involved with
World War One. In the movie, there is a scene where Russian troops are marching through Moscow
and the town s people are cheering for them. During this scene, the narrator describes how when he
entered the war, the party gave him the job the recruit troops. Bolsheviks, now referring to themselves
as the party, wanted the Tsar removed and the power placed in the hands of the people. The
Bolsheviks believed that the troops fighting in the war would soon become tired a weary, and would
be easily convinced to come join the party. The narrator in the movie mentions this tactic by saying
that the soldiers boots were new, and by the time they would wear out, they would join the party. The

Hagar Leaving Abraham s House In Genesis
Hagar and Ishmael s story in Genesis is often understood in the light of Isaac being the rightful heir to
Abraham s inheritance and legacy through the abandonment and expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael. At
first glance, the story portrays Hagar as an outsider, an Egyptian servant, who is beneath Sarah, the
mistress; thus, this difference in position justifies Hagar and Ishmael s abandonment from Abraham s
house. A closer look at the story evokes the reader s sympathy for Hagar and Ishmael s unfair
treatment since Ishmael is the firstborn son. This subtle detail drawn between the lines suggests that
there an underlying message in this narrative. In this paper, I will discuss how the two accounts of
Hagar leaving Abraham s house in Genesis 16 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first account, the text states that Sarah s inability to bear Abraham a child led her to take matters
into her own hands by giving her Egyptian maidservant, Hagar, to Abraham as a concubine so that he
can bear him a child through Hagar. After Hagar and Abraham cohabited, she became pregnant, which
caused Sarah to be disturbed by her status in Hagar s eyes. Sarah complained to Abraham and he told
her to deal with it as she thinks fit as Hagar is her maidservant. This caused Sarah to treat Hagar
harshly and resulted in Hagar fleeing from her master s house to run from Sarah. An angel of YHWH
found her near a spring on the road to Shur and told her to return to her master s house and submit to
the harsh treatment, while also instilling (?) some blessings to her. This narrative ended with the birth
of Ishmael when Abraham was eighty six years old. The second text in Genesis 21 begins with the
fulfillment of God s promise to Sarah with the birth of Isaac when Abraham was a hundred years old.
Sarah was delighted with Isaac s birth and was laughing at the people who mocked her for her
inability to bear Abraham a son. During Isaac s feast, she saw Ishmael playing with Isaac, which
saddened her and she demanded that Hagar and Ishmael be cast out as she did not want Ishmael, the
son of a slave, to share the same inheritance as Isaac. Abraham was greatly distressed by Sarah s
request, but God told him to not worry and follow Sarah s demand for it is through Isaac that offspring
shall be continued for you (Gen. 21:12) and He will bless Ishmael by [making] a nation of him
(21:13). The next morning, with God s instructions, Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away and gave
them some bread and water. When Hagar ran out of water in the wilderness of Beersheba, an angel of

Effects Of Social Networking Sites On Relationships
Effects of Social Networking Sites on Relationships Several studies have found that using social
networking sites excessively, including partner surveillance and monitoring, posting ambiguous
information, and compulsive internet use, can be detrimental to romantic relationships (Ridgway
Clayton, 2016). Social networking sites such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, negatively
influence our relationships. It is important to know the common conflicts and how to avoid them. It is
also important to realize how influential social networking sites affect our relationships daily. In the
following paragraphs, I am going to talk about conflicts in relationships that are caused by Facebook,
Instagram, and Twitter. Facebook is one of the most popular networking sites in the world, next to
LinkedIn and Google plus. However, recent studies have found that people are unaware of Facebook s
influence on our lives. With recent technology and being able to communicate with thousands of
people a day Facebook has influenced our relationships in ways we would not have even thought of
fifteen years ago. People today are now meeting over Facebook and it allows people to have a false
identity. According to Sherrell and Lambie (2016), one participant explained how frustrating it is to
have spent time Facebook chatting with someone they met online, only to find out that, in person, that
someone is not what he or she seemed like on Facebook. Participants in a Sherrell and Lambie s

According To The Data From A Statistic Done By The Canadian
According to the data from a statistic done by the Canadian center of substance abuse, in 2004 to 2012
the initiation age of alcohol use has delayed from 15.6 years old to 16.2 years old. The thought alone
of thinking that a 15 year old child might be consuming drugs and drinking alcohol would sound

not change the fact that the legal age is still far from the age most adolescents begin to consume

and adolescent self esteem?
REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
The three reoccurring themes that are covered and will be discussed are; Parental Adolescent Conflict,
Peer Relationships, and Satisfaction.
Parental Behaviour. The vast majority of researches focuses on the between the parent child
relationship. Most researches mentions that the parent and child relationship is factor always present
in many cases of adolescent substance use (Caughlin et al. 2004; Henry et al. 2003; Jones et al. 1998;
Slicker et al. 2004.). Though the parental involvement is a common factor between all of the articles,
the approach in how they affect adolescents differ between articles. All of the four articles focused
about the withdraw and demand between parent and child, while the other one also focuses on the
child imitation of their parents based how they act. Henry et al. (2003) found that adolescents with
parents who employ authoritative parenting, in which parents show high levels of support and use
logical reasoning to exercise control, used alcohol more rationally compared to the adolescents with
parents who use more of an authoritarian approach, which favors or enforces strict obedience and high
demands but low responsiveness. Because of the poor communication brought by an authoritarian

Theme Of Love In Siddhartha
Love comes in a variety of different ways, feelings, states, and attitudes that range from interpersonal
affection to pleasure. It can be an emotional attraction and personal attachment. It can also represent
human kindness, compassion, and affection. There is not one single definition of love. We all know
the feeling of loving multiple people in multiple different ways. We love our parents differently than
we love our children, we love our children differently than we love our one night stand, and we love
our one night stand differently than we love our significant other. People show and receive love in
varied ways, all distinctly different from one another. In Siddhartha, Hermann Hesse displays love as a

In loving a friend, we have to let them go when they need to go and say what needs to be said even
when they do not want to hear it. Hesse quickly displays this type of love in the relationship between

himself to the same exertions (15). As Siddhartha counties his journey, Govinda makes the choice to
live on his own to follow the ways of life as a Shramana. As a friend, we always want to see the best
for each other, Siddhartha quickly comes to realization that though he never thought Govinda would
go on his own that is the best for him:
Then he spoke gently in a voice without a trace of scorn: Govinda, my friend, now you have taken the
step, now you have chosen the path. Always, o Govinda, you have been my friend, always you have
walked one step behind me. Often I have thought: Will Govinda never once take a step alone, without
me, from his own soul? See, now you have become a man and you yourself are choosing your path.

The Vinland Map
Abstract: In the mid nineteen sixties, the Vinland map was found. It was renowned because it
demonstrated that the recorded reality that Columbus was the person who found America. In reality
Vikings were the ones who found America. The Vikings were fishermen and ranchers who ended up
being warriors who originated from Scandinavia; they lived from the year 793 until 1066. [Hassan,

upper east of North America on the Vinland map, and it was particularly pointed by indicating and
exact to modern day maps of Greenland. In the mid 1990s, from the base of the map, a little example
was cut for carbon 14 dating. After a long time, the results were accounted for, and the example was
dated in the year 1425. In 1965, archeologists discovered correct confirmation that the Vikings arrived
500 years before Columbus. They found the old Viking settlement in Newfoundland. What is the
evidence suggesting whether the map is fake or not? Some of the examples to show if the map is fake
or not are as follows: The Ink examination which was done in 1966 when a meeting took place

The Importance Of Social Practices In Young Goodman Brown
In any society, fictional or nonfictional, there is always one thing that is constant social practices. The
social practices within a society drive how people within the community interact with one another
through family relationships and values, the relationship within the community and often they will
create a social hierarchy within the society. Although no matter where you go you will find social
practices they can vary based on where you are in the world but this is not always the case. The story
social practices in Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne displays a town working together
as a tightly knit community even if it is all just a facade. Set in the small village of Salem in colonial
Massachusetts. The town is very puritan and the prominent people in the town have close ties to the
church. Throughout the story we see how small the town is, everyone knows everyone else s life story
and people take pride in their family name, Young Goodman Brown is no exception to this rule My
father never went into the woods on such an errand, nor his father before him. We have been a race of
honest men and good Christians since the days of the martyrs; (Nathaniel Hawthorne 2) Although
shortly after proclaiming that his family is made up of pure Christians he finds out it is all a lie the
sense of community in the village of Salem is something that never leaves the story. The sense of
community is also very much present in A Piano in Arkansaw written by Thomas Bangs

Racism is one of the world s major issues today. Many people are not aware of how much racism still

Essay On Salem Witch Trials Vs Mccarthyism
The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism went down the same road. They both named some names of
people who were not even apart of the communist party, nor were they witches. Both events did not
have proof of other people being apart of these groups either. After awhile people started resisting and
stopped the trials. The fact that both events named off random people shows that the events went off

Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum
I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event essay, on
Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a cultural event since it
provides you with the opportunity to learn about the different styles of artworks of different time
periods. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of
historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and
Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window
of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and
designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original
painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is
influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her contrapposto
stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is preparing to renew herself in the

From the first pages of Homer s The Iliad, Achilles is portrayed as vengeful, proud, and petty. As the
book progresses, the image of Achilles as a spiteful child is sharpened dramatically. Towards the end
of the epic; however, Achilles begins to exhibit qualities that are considered heroic even in today s

Even this early in the epic, it is difficult to believe Achilles would ever settle for a long life without
glory. Somewhat later in the epic; however, this is precisely what Achilles intends to do. When
Agamemnon sends an embassy to entreat the swift runner, Achilles tells them:
...two fates bear me on to the day of death. If I hold out here and lay siege to Troy, My journey home
is gone, but my glory never dies. If I voyage back to the fatherland I love, My pride, my glory dies...
True, but the life that s left me will be long, The stroke of death will not come on me quickly. (9.499
505) Achilles then proceeds to urge the rest of the Greeks to sail home and abandon the war in Troy.
Although this seems to imply that Achilles has given up his youthful brashness, he also mercilessly
insults Agamemnon in the same book. His refusal to let go of his anger and his concern for his own
future indicate a more adolescent or young adult viewpoint, rather than his previous childishness.
The three ambassadors, Odysseus, Telamonian Ajax, and Phoenix, all appeal to Achilles to release his
anger, implying that they look at him as a youth raging at worldly injustices. When Odysseus tells

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are group of disorders that cause chronic inflammation in the

  • 2. Budget Cuts In Schools Seeming insignificant and being seen as an unreliable and an inconsistent source of money, classes such as art, poetry, or drama get cut. For these classes of which have been an inspiration to many artists to be let go, the school must undergo budget cuts. Negatively affecting the learning environment, budget cuts have been public enemy number one in schools worldwide. Due to these cuts teachers get laid off and those students who were in that class go on to other classes, essentially, doubling the original class size. However, what do we do about those who seem to enjoy the arts provided by their school? Let alone, those who have become inspired and envision becoming world renown someday? • 3. Essay on CRIMES Are Committed By...CRIMINALS, Guns Are Not... Calls for more gun control came after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut where 20 school students and 6 adults were killed by a man with an assault rifle (Cary). Soon after the school massacre, President Obama proposed a ban assault rifles and high capacity magazines and make background checks tougher (Cary). A protest movement called Guns Across America was the pro gun response in January 2013 to the wave of calls for more gun control (Weissert). I would take the poster to a Guns Across America event at the Texas State capital. With my poster, I m protesting any action from the government which will control and restrict the rights of law abiding citizen to purchase and own firearms. In my ... Since crime and gun control are serious issues,I used a white poster board for a simple background and red and black permanent markers to convey that seriousness. Since the words crimes and criminals go to together and are central to my argument, I made them both bold, in all caps, and in red so they are the most eye catching. Red is also associated with blood, so by making criminals red instead of guns I m also indicating what really causes people to bleed; other people. The the first and last phrases are where I set up my argument and draw my conclusions, so they are important and therefore bold as well. The first three checklist options are for comparison only and are not as central to my argument so they are not in bold letters. I am trying to reach and convince people who don t agree with me, are unsure about the issue, don t have strong feeling about it, and especially those who don t understand the issue. By using a checklist, I m trying to explain the core of the issue and my position on it as simply and as clearly as possible. I lived in the inner city of Milwaukee until I was about eight years old, and shortly after we moved to the Village of River Hills. My mother grew up in the city of Milwaukee also. My father grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and moved to Wisconsin when he was ten years old. Growing up, I traveled from Milwaukee to Mississippi at least seven times a year. Initally, while visiting it was a culture shock for me. My grandmother drove the School bus and lived on a farm. She had many horses as pets and as a means for transportation. I understand it is essential that I become aware of my own cultural background to effectively provide the best care to my patients. A nurse cannot provide appropriate cultural care without having knowledge and a basic understanding of cultural competency. What I ve learned about myself after reflecting upon practices, values, and biases After taking the cultural competence self test assessment from the intercultural engagement resource, I feel that I am more culturally competent than most but I still have more learning to do. • 5. My Experience Of Going To New York City I was called into my parent s room one day, only to be informed that I was going to one of the most substantial cities in the world. I was going to New York City. Being in such a significant city was never in mind for me. Up until the summer of 2017. In the days leading up to me attending to one of the possibly biggest days of my life, I had such aspirations for going. Soon, the day had finally come. I was going there, and it was truly happening. I woke up at 4 AM and headed out for the bus station to board and leave. After a few hours of riding, the bus driver finally announced that we d be there within minutes. The anticipation I had was growing bigger and stronger by the second. I then look to my left only to see such a great landscape of the city. I was finally there. I depart from the bus, and I was surrounded by tens of hundreds of people roaming the streets. Numerous yellow taxi cabs came across my view, followed by endless sounds of car horns honking. I was astonished by the city already, but I had a goal in mind that I wanted to do first, and that was to go see the Empire State Building. I walked around just a couple of blocks only to see such an extensive building. I was by far one of the biggest things I had ever seen. I was welcomed to the building by a man wearing a suit, standing by the door. As I walked in, I was amazed by the inside. I walk into an elevator and watched the numbers on the screen go higher and higher, all the way to the eighty sixth floor. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By looking at the greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area there is a need to accommodate for future cities by employing community and regional design concepts. Content The future of living is cities. Somehow the ancients understood it, but Americans in the 1950s decided cities were a thing of the past. The movement from the city to the suburb has been one of the single most expensive cultural migrations in world history. There is much more than the initial cost of a house with a yard. There are the environmental costs that accumulate from the destruction of wildlife from both, building materials and the clearing of area for the physical house. This initial cost also does not account for the supermarkets, and roads needed to sustain life in these suburban areas separated into pods. What about the costs of a car needed for transportation in these metropolises, and all their external costs as well? Those are not accounted for either, but suburban living was the American Dream for nearly half a century. However, as the American Dream, and family models, change there is an evident need for living conditions to change as well. There is not a singular way to design a city, but ... The fact that a member of the armed forces is convicted by the civilian authorities, or adjudicated to be a juvenile offender, or the case is diverted out of the regular criminal process for a probationary period does not excuse any unauthorized absence, because the member s inability to return was the result of willful misconduct. This quote expresses Kingston s fervor for writing and storytelling outside of her short story White Tigers from the Woman Warrior , which emphasizes the importance of literature, which is her art, by retelling her own childhood as the fairy tale of the Woman Warrior, Fa Mu Lan, and connecting it back to her own life. The introductory paragraphs, coupled with the word carving scene and the concluding final paragraphs, evoke Fa Mu Lan and present Maxine s life as analogous to Fa Mu Lan s life story. While it is understood that they did not know each other, Maxine complicates this relationship , for lack of a better word, by using a first person narrative as opposed to a third person narrative while retelling the fairy tale , which in turn complicates subjectivity of Maxine, and the relationship between Maxine and Fa Mu Lan. Moreover, the words in the word carving scene in the middle of the fairy tale are double symbols of suffering and of perfect filiality, which is a trait common in Chinese culture. By and large, these early on passages, and each section from there on, and the word cutting scene, utilize the literary devices of point of view and central symbol to influence the audience to acknowledge Maxine s claim that Fa Mu Lan is her model, and that she, Maxine, is fruitful in taking after her case since they both have words at their backs. After Hagar and Abraham cohabited, she became pregnant, which caused Sarah to be disturbed by her status in Hagar s eyes. Sarah complained to Abraham and he told her to deal with it as she thinks fit as Hagar is her maidservant. This caused Sarah to treat Hagar harshly and resulted in Hagar fleeing from her master s house to run from Sarah. An angel of YHWH found her near a spring on the road to Shur and told her to return to her master s house and submit to the harsh treatment, while also instilling (?) some blessings to her. People today are now meeting over Facebook and it allows people to have a false identity. According to Sherrell and Lambie (2016), one participant explained how frustrating it is to have spent time Facebook chatting with someone they met online, only to find out that, in person, that someone is not what he or she seemed like on Facebook.
