Claude Monet was born in Paris in 1840 and moved to Havre as a child where he met one of his first teachers, Eugène Boudin, who encouraged him to paint landscapes. He later returned to Paris to study art and met other impressionist painters like Renoir, Bazille, and Sisley. In the 1870s, Monet married Camille Doncieux and took part in early impressionist exhibitions. In 1883, he moved to Giverny where he painted landscapes depicting the same scenes in different lights and travelled the Mediterranean for inspiration. Monet died in 1926 as a rich and famous painter known for his impressionist works.
