The Democratic Government Of Canada
Summary
The Liberal Government of Canada has promised the implementation of a new electoral system within
the next 18 months according to the second chapter of the document Real Change: A New Plan for a
Strong Middle Class. The document seeks to affirm that the 2015 election will be the last federal
election held under the first past the post electoral system and that many reform options will be
thoroughly explored to replace it. Proportional representation (PR) systems appears to be the most
beneficial and logical alternatives to our current system. However, there is variety of different forms
of proportional representation and this paper will seek to explain why Single Transferable Vote is the
most viable proportional representation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regionalism allows for some voters to have more power with their votes, particularly Ontario and
Quebec over other provinces thus furthering regional tension and divide.
Voters in areas with a lesser impact on the Election outcome may feel a sense of voter apathy and will
be less likely to engage with political discourse.
Potentially wasted ballots on small fringe parties with no chance of winning or in electoral districts
with a strong partisan leaning.
Parties that have a diffuse national support may be underrepresented in House of Commons, The New
Democratic Party and in some historical instances the Conservative Party have been negatively
impacted by this.
The inverse of the prior problem occurs as well, parties with a concentrated regional support become
over represented in the House of Commons; The Bloc Quebecois have traditionally been an example
of this.
Strategic voting may occur to ensure a party is removed from power, voters will vote for an opposing
party with a good chance of winning versus a party with lesser support but whose platform they agree
with.
On Election Day a winner can be determined before polls across Canada close, once the Maritimes,
Quebec and Ontario are counted, a winner can be determined before the polls close out West.
What is the Single Transferable Voting

Reflection On How I Learn English
This semester, you helped me learn that English isn t just about writing, that it is about learning, too.
You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can cause
damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much added
sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the WODs. They
helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An assignment we did this
year was shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have
read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never
genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over
them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to
see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala.
It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in
third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what
we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to
others. So this lesson about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we
have. Nothing that you taught us needs to be revisited. I understand mostly everything that has been
learned this semester, it just took me a lot of time to process it. My class last year, mostly did just
personal narratives or book reports. I just wasn t expecting you to be so hard on us, especially the first
semester. Although, you pushed my class and me to new limits, and I hope to do better the next part of
this school year.
As my teacher, I honestly think of you are a great teacher yet sometimes, you seem like you don t care
about us. For example, there was this one time in class when we were taking an assessment and when
I asked you for help, you just ignored me and looked away. Sometimes I wish you would try to help us
more on things we are struggling with instead of just not caring at all. Your strengths are that you are

Anorexia Nervosa And Bulimia Nervosa
Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa are a few of the most common disorders struggled with today.
Anorexia Nervosa is a condition of the intense fear to gain weight, which results in consistent lack of
eating. Bulimia Nervosa, involves frequent episodes of binge eating followed by throwing up because
of fear of gaining weight. The mortality rate for anorexia is the highest of all mental disorders yet the
genetic factors relating them were not a huge concern to look into. It is easy to think that Anorexia and
Bulimia are mentality induced only, but there are indeed genetic factors related despite how small the
evidence may be. Personality disorders are heritable, and are commonly developed after an eating
disorder or a large reason someone develops one. The study of serotonin, a compound found in
Bulimia, Anorexia and depression, can be passed down through genes and they play a small part in
eating disorders worth acknowledging. Inheriting genes that make an individual athletic naturally can
affect the chances of eating disorder. There is no evidence that one particular gene could cause an
eating disorder, but there are various traits and levels of compounds that when inherited, increase the
likelihood of developing one. Personality disorders are more likely to develop from an eating disorder
and are common preceding factors for one. Individuals exposed to stressful environments who are
genetically more vulnerable, are at risk for developing an eating disorder. Narcissists

Raising Driving Age
Teens have been a part of many accidents. They have caused many people to die. Would it be better to
raise the age or let them get a licensed to be able to drive?
Raising the age should help teens not commit car accidents. In 1995 through 2004 there was 30,917
fatalities in accidents involved 15 to 17 year olds, according to a study by the AAA Foundation for
Traffic Safety. A third of those fatalities were teens themselves. The others were pedestrians,
passengers, and people in cars that got hit. Raising the driving age may seem burdensome to parents
and teens.
Some say raising the driving ages won t save lives. Supporters of GDLs (graduated driver s licenses)
say the GDL system saves lives. Opponents of GDLs say that GDLs make it

Exhibition Review – Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Essay
Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery
Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures.
One of his most well known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance
of the Victoria Albert Museum in London (figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum
collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street in
London on the 23rd of January 2012.
The entire exhibition was made up of glass sculptures fitting into several different genres created by
the artist; for example Seaforms , Persians , both created in the 1980 s, and Fiori , which he created in
the 2000 s. Chihuly explored a variety of glass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the pieces were 3D, standing out from the wall, interesting coloured shadows and highlights were
created with the lighting on the white walls. The viewers could walk beneath the pieces to view the
underneath of each bowl like disc, and see the detail of different coloured glass swirled into the piece.
The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the piece, softening it.
Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created
in the 1970 s, as I thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really
effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another,
showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of scales. The lip wrap on each
basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and is a
trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the
centre of the baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within.
I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon
Gallery (figures 10 and 11). The deep red and blues within the Cranberry and Clear Chandelier and the
Dusky Sky Chandelier draw the attention of passers by, encouraging you to step closer and view the
intricacies of each handcrafted piece of the two chandeliers. I feel they were the ideal pieces of work
to advertise the

Immigration Autobiography
I was born in Odessa, former Soviet Union and presently Ukraine; there I lived my first thirty three
years. Now I am a proud citizen of United States of America, my adopted country, the country I love,
and truly consider mine. So many things and events leading to our departure and details of the
immigration process now are vague in my memory, but I do not want to forget them completely; also,
there are grandkids that someday may want to know a little about their roots. Although, I realize that
my story was very typical and thousands of other families had similar experiences, I still want to recall
as much as possible and be as truthful as possible, while describing our passage to America. In the
year 1965, I was twenty years old (not very matured), when Victor and I were married. Our daughter,
Annushka, showed up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actually the misery of living in the rundown apartment with communal kitchen shared by 3 other
families deserves more details; also when add no running water, absence of the toilet and heating ( the
word air conditioning did not exist in our vocabulary) the picture becomes more vivid. I need to
explain the Soviet system of apartment distribution: to become eligible to only stay in line for an
apartment (even co op that we later paid for) each person must occupy no more than 4 sq. meters or 36
sq. feet. For my parents, husband, daughter, and I our apartment had to be no more than 720 sq. feet or
the size of average one bedroom apartment in America. My parent s apartment was slightly bigger.
Thinking that I will have to spend the rest of my life sharing apartment with my parents made me
desperate, (my mom was not very fond of my husband and the feeling was mutual, although their
relationship improved after we moved out). Victor saved the situation by falsifying the size of our
apartment to fit the draconian

How Did William Penn Influence America
After traveling throughout Europe with George Fox, the founder of the Quaker belief, William Penn
was finally granted land over in the new world by the King Charles II, the king of England at the time.
The land was a way to settle the king s debt with Penn s father, however William Penn had requested
the land for a different purpose a place the Quakers could finally live and not be oppressed. Through
his construction of Pennsylvania, Penn had an enormous influence on the future United States of
America through his belief of religious freedom, being a humanitarian, and by creating an ethnic
diversity in the middle colony. His Quaker religion had a major influence on Pennsylvania, since each
Quaker let each person follow the light of Jesus in their own way. Also, Penn promoted the human
welfare for each group that came into Pennsylvania, and tried to create a sufficient government that
ran well enough to support each group. However when developing the population of Pennsylvania,
Penn did something that was extremely uncommon at the time he invited extremely ethnically diverse
groups to live in harmony. It was hard to predict how critical William Penn s ideas would ... Show

According to the Quaker belief, each person has a light of Christ inside of them. As a part of being a
Quaker, a believer is to follow out the light inside of them in whatever way they see fit. This is a major
stepping stone that created the freedom of religion in Pennsylvania. When forming the government
and laws, Penn abided by his beliefs and created a law that called for religious tolerance, and invited
persecuted groups from Europe over to the colony. However only those who believe in God (mainly
Christians) could vote and hold official positions. None the less, a countless number of people came
over to participate in the social and economic affairs in PA. Even in a book written by Penn, Liberty of
Conscience, he

Domesticity In Hawthorne s The House Of The Seven Gables
The House of the Seven Gables has often been described as containing domestic ideas, and many
readers have noted that Hawthorne draws on his own personal cult of domesticity in patterning Phoebe
after his wife Sophia. But when we isolate the particular conventions of the domestic novel, we can
see the great extent to which The House of the Seven Gables resemble this popular genre in its plot,
characters, setting, and imagery. Most importantly, Hawthorne s story embodies the primary ideology
of the cult of domesticity: the value of love and human relationships as opposed to materialism and
self centeredness.
Modern readings of the novel often concentrate on this static nature of the house. But reading more
closely with a domestic lense, we see just how the plot focuses on two female characters. After the
novels historical introduction, the narrative opens with Hepzibah, who dominates the action for three
chapters until Phoebe arrives. A common complaint about Phoebe is that we have not seen enough of
her to prepare us for her pivotal role in the novel s conclusion, but looking at the narrative structure
we can see how she unobtrusively controls the action. Chapters 5 14 all depict Phoebe s interacting in
turn with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A domestic analysis of House of the Seven Gables may suggest a new way to approach the
troublesome question of the novel s conclusion. The marriage of Phoebe and Holgrave, the new
affluence of the three Pyncheons, and everyone s removal to the late Judge s country house pose
significant critical problems. Hawthorne appears to begin with a story that condemns the past,
aristocratic ideology, and isolation and to conclude having all of the characters embrace these
corrupted values. Was Hawthorne merely having all the characters embrace these corrupted values?
Was Hawthorne merely uncomfortably giving in to public demand for a happy ending? Or is the
ending an ironic condemnation of Holgrave and

Elaboration Likelihood Model, And Cacioppo s Theory Of...
Elaboration Likelihood Model Petty and Cacioppo s theory of persuasion is one of the most highly
studied theories, in 1986 they published an article, in which they posted that there are two routes
through which persuasion can take place. One is when people have the motivation and the ability to
carefully process and think about the air arguments within a counterattitudinal message, in which they
use the central route of persuasion. Furthermore, when people process messages centrally, they then
evaluate the arguments within the message the logical factual to the extent that their cognitive
responses the thoughts they have about the arguments while reading the message are positive. On the
other hand, when individuals lack either the motivation or ability to carefully process and think about
the arguments within a counterattitudinal message, they will use the peripheral route in order to
persuade. When people process a message peripherally, instead of elaborating on the arguments within
the message, they respond to cues that exist within the message images or heuristics not directly
relevant to the message that can persuade without requiring much thought. ( Credo Reference

Caroline Kennedy Outline
Caroline Kennedy, daughter of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, said of her mother, I think my mother
made it clear you have to live life by your own terms and you have to not worry about what other
people think and have the courage to do the unexpected (Caroline Kennedy quotes, page 1).
Jacqueline, known as Jackie, is one of the most well known women of the 1900 s. Showcasing her
strong will and grace from an early age, she inspired many people while serving as First Lady and
after. While Jackie Kennedy on the surface seemed to live a charmed life as a prominent, beautiful
woman, she endured the death of her son, the tragic death of her husband President John F. Kennedy,

Abstract
In 1997, the Asian Financial Crisis spread rapidly all over the Asia and affected almost all the
economies in the world. Prior to the Asian Financial Crisis, the Asian countries such as Thailand,
Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore experienced a remarkable growth in the
economy that was considered the highest in the world. These Asian economies increased by a notable
proportion of 6 to 10 percent annually in the GDP. However, what had been regarded as an Asian
miracle seemed to crumple down rapidly 1997 when these Asian countries were faced with a severe
financial crisis in their local stock and currency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the negotiations for support grant from the IMF and the United States Treasury, the
monetary drainage persisted and Brazil was forced to devalue its currency. As a result, the Brazilian
government authorized the real to float, while it abandoned linking its currency to the U.S. dollar. The
financial crisis in Brazil spread out rapidly to other nations in Latin America and as a result several
billions of dollars were drained from these countries and this hindered the trade exchange with the
United States. As a result, the nations in the Latin America experienced one of the nastiest economic
recession that was mainly fuelled by the Asian financial crisis. The effect of the financial disaster was
predominantly severe in the Latin America s small economies, for instance Bolivia, Uruguay, Ecuador,
Chile and, Argentina and Colombia (Hunter, 1999).
Petti (2001) argues that financial shocks can move rapidly throughout the nations within similar
regions as it was revealed by the Mexican peso disaster that occurred in the year 1994. Similarly, the
financial crisis that affected the Asian countries proved to be a regional financial crisis and it
threatened geographically distant vibrant economies mostly in the Latin America. The Latin America
countries began experiencing the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997

Upper Cost Of College Students
Most people in this world do not get to experience the privileges that the richest do. The average
person does not get to live in a mansion, or on the beach, or even eat at the fanciest five star
restaurants. If someone does not have enough money to buy something or go somewhere, he/she
simply cannot do it. Lehigh University, in itself, is an example of this. As a rather costly private
school, only students who can afford the annual tuition are able to attend. The price changes the
probability that students will attend it, decreasing interest from many of the potential applicants. Price,
as well as location, can determine relatively how probable certain behaviors are in a certain area. In

This is made obvious by the incredibly high prices of the food and beverages located at this dining
hall, compared to those of the other two dining halls. At the other two dining halls, Rathbone and
Lower Cort, one meal swipe is equivalent to about $4.50 and that gets a student unlimited food. At
Upper Cort however, each food item has its own price, often each more than one meal swipe, therefore
ultimately costing two or even three times as much as a normal meal. For an average college student,
who is poor do to all of the costs and money spending opportunities around them at all times, this is a
luxury. Because most college students are limited on meal swipes by their individual meal plans, they
cannot afford this. The students who have more money though, the elite in this situation, are at the
advantage because they can enjoy the privilege of eating at the Upper Cort balcony, if they find it that
is. The fact that this does greatly increase a student s probability to enter the balcony is true, but it
does not mean that the student is guaranteed to enter the room itself. After all, it is tucked away in a
nook, as shown in Exhibit C, where only those with prior knowledge of it are likely to find it.This
means that the while being tucked away does not cause students to not come to it, it definitely
decreases the probability that any given individual will choose to dine there. Just as the location of the
balcony changes the probability that students will go there, the amount of money that the students
have also determines the probability that they will end up eating there. If someone has more money,
they would be more probable than an individual who lacks the funds to eat there, to dine

Case Report of Swap Spreads, 2010 Essay example
The article Swap Spreads:2010 talks about a financial abnormity that the 30 year swap spread has kept
negative since late 2008 for a long time, and an arbitrage opportunity based on the bet that LIBOR
would never fall below equivalent government bond interest rates.
Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or
why not?
The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating interest
payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. In
practice, the 3 month T bills are replaced by taking a rolling short position of repos daily and entering
into a 3 month OIS to receive floating and pay fixed (OIS rate) ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, although the article says that the LIBOR OIS spread is little changed, it cannot guarantee that
the spread won t be volatile in the 30 year time.
To sum up, the trade is feasible, but there are still some things that need to be concerned.
Question2: What would be the internal rate of return on the trade over 30 years?
Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much, the
notional amount is 1 billion US dollars.
The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120.
Payment at time 0 is 1.5%*1,000,000,000= 15,000,000
Payment at each delivery time =[(3.875% 3.445%)+0.0025]*(1/4)*1,000,000,000=1,700,000
Thus, the IRR=11.33%*4=45.32%
Question3: Why do you think the 30 year swap spreads are negative? What type of financial
institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates?
There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The swap
spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the same horizon.
So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. Investors now
think sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second, liquidity is very low in the long
end of swaps. The low liquidity is mainly driven by hedging of exotic derivatives.
Pension funds would be

iii. However, in the potential future scenario of a 10% turboprop, 30% regional jet, and 60%
conventional jet mix, the PPP would have an insignificant effect. iv. Our analysis in 1. and 2. shows
that the potential savings in delay costs that result from demand management can potentially offset the
peak period fees. For example, if the current peak period demand is 59 planes and a fee of $250 can
reduce it to 40 planes, the total costs that conventional jets incur decreases from $4641.11 to $526.16.
However, if the current demand is 50 planes, a fee of $250, which reduces the demand to 40 planes,
would not be offset, Further, it must be noted that conventional jets benefit the most from a decrease
in demand resulting from a PPP. If the current demand is 59 planes, for turbotrops the landing fee can
be offset from delay costs savings, but this is not the case if the current demand is, for example, 55 or
50 planes. To conclude, the savings in delay costs that result from demand management can offset
peak period fees, but only if the initial demand is high and usually only in the case of conventional
jets. 3. A) One of the fundamental assumptions of waiting line systems is that the arrival rate cannot
exceed the service rate or the system is said to be unstable. In the case, the arrival rate at times is
almost equal to, or greater than, the service rate, hence

Causes and Effects of the Persian Gulf War Essay
Causes and Effects of the Persian Gulf War
The Persian Gulf War, often referred to as Operation Desert Storm, was perhaps one of the most
successful war campaigns in the history of warfare. Saddam Hussein, leader of Iraq, invaded Kuwait
in 1990. In 1991, after weeks of air strikes, US ground forces entered Iraq and Kuwait and eliminated
Iraqi presence in 60 hours.
Why Would Iraq invade Kuwait?
Kuwait supplies much of the world s oil supplies, and when Hussein invaded Kuwait, he controlled
24% of the world s oil supplies (O Hara). Though this is a good reason, it is not the only one. Iraq s
real excuse for annexing Kuwait was that he believed that Kuwait was producing more oil than it was
supposed to, taking out of Iraq s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just before the United States began air strikes over Iraq, Hussein decided to test his new weapon on
the city of Iraq. Little damage was caused, but it just was another excuse for the United States to
attack (NSA).
What happened after the Persian Gulf War?
Because the world would not look the other way...tonight, Kuwait is free. Those were the words of
President Bush after the end of Operation Desert Storm. Though free, Kuwait was a war torn country.
While Iraqi troops were retreating, they set fire to many of the Kuwait oil fields causing a constant
blaze. Along with a defeat, Iraq has to accept strict cease fire terms set on by the UN. They include No
Fly Zones on the north and south borders of Iraq, frequent military inspections, destroy all chemical
and ballistic missiles in its possession, and stop any nuclear weapons programs (Brown).
Though only about 367 Americans died in this war, about 160 of them were from friendly fire, which
is when someone is killed by their own country on accident. This is because of the new high tech
weapons where at times, only infrared light can be read, making it impossible to decipher which is
friend or foe (Friendly Fire).
After the war, many of the soldiers who fought developed what is known as Gulf War Syndrome.
Speculation is that the cause may be chemical or biological weapons used, but nothing has ever been
confirmed (Brown).

Thomas Hobbes s The Once-Ler
Thomas Hobbes once said, The passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such
things as are necessary to commodious living; and a hope by their industry to obtain them. According
to the quote, Hobbes presumed that humans are committed to fulfill their own desires, while

which caused Britain to be slathered with factories that polluted the environment it was located in. The
demand for tangible and luxurious products led to an increase of factories, which manifested to a

Red King Crabs Stomach Analysis
Red king crabs were collected for stomach analysis and abundance estimates by using a specially
designed beam trawl, previously used in surveys for stock assessment by the Institute of Marine
Research (IMR). The crab trawl is 6 m wide, 1 m high, and is equipped with a 135 mm mesh size
polyethylene net (Sundet Berenboim 2008). The hauling speed was approximately 1.65 kn. It was not
possible to use a fixed standardized trawling distance because of the changing and rocky bottom
topography. Four hauls were also performed with a shrimp bottom trawl in 2005, to catch fish for
stomach analysis for another study not included in this paper. However, as red king crabs were caught
during four of these hauls (Table 3), stomach analysis of these crabs

Examples Of Alienation In The God Of Small Things
My research paper argues that Ammu, the central character of Arundhati Roy s Man Booker Prize
Winning novel The God of Small Things, whose tragic and alienated life is ubiquitously echoed
throughout the novel and her life and destiny are akin to those whose voice always gets muffled. Man
suffers spilt within himself via à is the society in which he is accidentally born. It is this breach or
displacement that occasions many a tension and lifelong struggle. Industrial revolution and the
advancement of technology intensified this struggle. As man grows, he finds himself in a dubious
situation as far as his relationship with himself as well as his relatedness to his society is concerned.

He believes that alienation is a phenomenon of consciousness, involving an inherent disassociation of
man as subject and object. It is interesting to note that while Marx discusses four aspects of alienation
alienation from the object produced; alienation from one s work process itself; alienation from one s
work; alienation from one s fellow men, the Freudians hold that it is society that creates an emaciating
effect upon man s raw energy. Erich Fromm, like Hegel, explained alienation more than a sociological
phenomenon. He discussed four main ways in which a person can experience alienation: from nature,
from others, from society, and from the self. While discussing the concept of alienation, Karen Horney
talks about real self . Her main focus is on understanding the psychic processes which ensue when a
person loses touch with his real self or is self alienated. In Durkheim s phraseology, alienation as the
consequence of a state of anomie exists when people believe that there is a breakdown of societal
behavioral norms, and the cultural

Socrates Unexamined Life
As a perfectionist, I grew up ignoring my imperfections, mistakes, and failures. I didn t just want
perfection: I needed it. A red slash on a test or a mistake marked an absolute failure. Because I hid
from past mistakes, I never learned from them, making me incapable of growth. I excused my
mistakes and humbly boasted my overall score. I convinced myself that I never actually made a
mistake, so I never learned the information that I had previously missed, thus leading to more errors to
hide. Finally, after years of insisting upon infallibility, I realized it was a problem. Consequently, I
chose to answer the question What s wrong with being wrong? for a project sophomore year. After
months of research on historical leaders, I finally concluded that mistakes and failures are
opportunities to learn and improve. Without error, you will never recognize a need for change and
therefore, you will never improve. Socrates was correct in saying The unexamined life is not worth
living. Life is characterized by the ability to continually change; therefore, by not evaluating your life,

Everyone demands perennial improvement along with perfection; however, perfection eliminates the
possibility of improvement. Upon contemplation of these common expectations, it is evident that they
are illogical, unattainable, and therefore defeating. Analyzing life consequently enables a fuller,

notion. Additionally, Karl Marx concluded that socialism would bring the end of history because there
would be no more struggle, which is what prompted the progression of history. Hence, without need

How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To Physics
Born on January 4th, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England, Isaac Newton was an established mathematician
and physician. He is credited as one of the greatest minds of the 17th century Scientific Revolution.
With his discoveries in optics, motion, and mathematics, Newton developed the principles of modern
physics. He also shares credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the creation/development of Calculus.
In 1666, Newton began contributing to the field of optics, first by observing that color was a property
of light by measuring it through a prism. From 1670 to 1672, he lectured at the University of
Cambridge on optics and investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that the multicolored
spectrum produced by a prism could be recomposed into white light by a lens and a second prism. In
1687, he published his best known work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical
Principles of Natural Philosophy), which has been called the most influential book on physics. The
Principia states Newton s laws of motion, forming the foundation of mechanics, Newton s law of
universal gravitation, and the origin of Kepler s laws of planetary motion. In the Principia Newton

direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The second law states that acceleration is
produced when a mass is acted on by a force. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force
required to accelerate it. The third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite

Mercy Core Value Analysis
As I sit down to write my final reflection, I think about the Mercy Core Values here at Georgian Court
University and what I have gained during this course. I would like to think that I have been taught the
value of respect and integrity during my up bring from my parents, family, teachers and co workers
and the teachings here at GCU have given me a better outlook and understanding on how important
respect and integrity are in the world we live in. To me respect is to have an understanding in ones
beliefs even if you don t agree, basically not judging someone on their personal beliefs or actions.
Having an understanding as to why they do or say is respect. My understanding of integrity is to be
you , be honest and standup for your actions and your beliefs. Do the right thing opposed to the wrong
thing. As a person everyone has a level of respect and/or integrity. It s a matter of whether the person
truly knows the meaning of it and uses them in the right way. During this course, I have read a lot of
interesting readings, the ones that standout the most to me are Fredrick Douglass, Malala Yousafzai,
and Sister Cathrine McAuley. They are all fine examples of people I have learn more about respect

High Alert Medication Errors With Independent Double...
Decreasing High Alert Medication Errors With Independent Double Checks High alert medications
and independent double checks should go hand in hand in minimizing medication errors in acute care
settings. This study will focus on an experimental approach using convenient sampling and random
selection of nurses to compare whether or not an educational intervention including independent
double checks before high alert medication administration will decrease the amount of errors made by
nurses in an acute care settings when administering these medication.
Defining Key Terms In order to clearly communicate about these issues, definitions for key terms are
included below. Medication error consists of administering medications outside of they dosing
parameters; including wrong dose, wrong route, wrong time, wrong patient, wrong medication etc.
According to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices ( 2015) an independent double check(IDC) is
a process in which a second practitioner conducts a verification (par.5). Independent double checks are
a method used to improve the safety of medication administration. Some medications have higher
risks of harm for the patient if given in error. High Alert Medications(HAM) are drugs that bear a
heightened risk of causing significant harm when they are used in error.(ISMP, 2014). All above terms
are relevant to the research done for the purpose of this paper.

My Life Of The Sixth Grade
In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over two
years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and
happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be
moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that
Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time
before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was
content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly
accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a
miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health,
and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto
me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two
effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of
bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock
me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather
great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common
pursuits.

reasons the four did not report it because they did not want to embarrass their stakeholders and the

Freedom of religion When we say freedom of religion what is that exactly means? The First

the government want to encourage and promoting religion in any ways. In addition to that, nobody can

literature, history and philosophy they can t indorse religious beliefs or practices as part of the

Essay On Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is an intervention paradigm which deviates from the traditional abstinence only
therapeutic goal which over 75% of treatment programs in the United States adhere to, and as a result
is able to treat a large population characteristically excluded from addiction services.
Demarginalization, therapeutic engagement, and an improved quality of life for consumers are
objectives which should be substantive enough to motivate both service providers and policy makers
to reconsider changing total abstinence / treatment adherence based definitions of success in substance
abuse services, high risk behavioral interventions, and mental health treatment.
People s ability to manage their health related behaviors may occur along a spectrum ranging from
highly controlled at one end to profoundly disordered at the other. The Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Administration s 2009 National Survey, Drug Use and Health Report, found that 22.2 million
people in the United States met the criteria established for a substance use or dependence diagnosis.

Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, the 2000 movie, American Psycho, is a young but classic film

behaviours such as wandering off and difficulty in maintaining focus. Hyperactivity on the other hand,

Firstly, the position in favour of the change will be considered, and in particular the similarity between
fully diagnosed ADHD subjects and late onset ADHD subjects. The position against the change will
look at the issue from a biological standpoint arguing that raising the age of onset to 12 years may not
necessarily capture ADHD in individuals; but rather, biological changes as a result of puberty.
According to the DSM 5, an age earlier than 12 was not selected to be part of the requirement for the
diagnosis due to the difficulty for adults to establish precise childhood onset retrospectively
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Changes to the age of onset to before 12 years old is
justified, in part, by the similarity between fully diagnosed ADHD subjects and late onset ADHD
subjects. A study by Applegate et al. (1997) compared a sample of youth who met the criteria for
ADHD and displayed impairment before the age of 7, with youth who met the criteria but did not
display impairment. They found that the age of onset varied depending on the ADHD subtype. 18% of
combined subtype and 43% of the predominantly inattentive subtype had no manifestation until after
they were 7 years old. This brings into question the validity of the DSM 4 s definition of the age of
onset. Another study by Faraone et al. (2006) observed that subjects with late onset ADHD resembled

through the story, and because of the perfect writing by Shakespeare, it is often considered one of the
greatest pieces of literature in history. Throughout the story, many people mistake true love for lust. It
is one of the most commonly made mistakes with teenagers. Many people have mny different
opinions and definitions of what true love is and in short, my definition of true love is this. Love is the
loyal dedication to another that grows over time. And the definition of lust is the want or need for
something. And with teenagers, there is often confusion between

Mountaintop Removal Essay
Coal (n): A combustible black or dark brown rock consisting mainly of carbonized plant matter, found
mainly in underground deposits and widely used as fuel. This little rock is what keeps 39% of our
nation running. 10% of that coal comes from stripping the Appalachian mountain range of her
beautiful peaks in a process called strip mining or, more popularly, Mountaintop Removal. Coal is
considered a non renewable energy resource, meaning once it s depleted, it will not return for millions
of years. Once it s gone, it s gone. These non renewable sources are found deep underground. Coal
needs to be mined out, either by machine or by manual labor. The use of and the process in which we
procure coal is a detriment to both the environment and the people in said environment. It is
dangerous to the workers within the mines, the flora and fauna around the sites, and the surrounding
communities.
Mountaintop Removal is the process in which the top of the mountain is removed, as the moniker may
suggest. The layer of topsoil and vegetation must be removed and cleared away to reach the coal
beneath. The plant life removed from the mountain is labelled overburden and cleared away. It is
rarely ever used for any real purpose, and is often burned. The process of removing the topsoil and
vegetation leaves the fauna in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kentucky has done the most, by stripping 293 mountains, equivalent to 574,000 acres of land. In these
four states 501 mountains have been stripped, equating to 1,160,000 acres of land. A recent study
performed by Duke University researchers concluded that parts of the Appalachian mountain range are
at least forty percent flatter than they were just forty years ago, before the strip mining began. This is
due in part to the flattening of the mountaintops, and partially to filling in the valleys with overburden
and mining

Golden Age Of Islam Essay
The Golden Age of Islam
As Western Europe deviated from the chaos of Rome, a golden age began to rise in Islam. It was a
time of peace and knowledge, where economy, art, and cultural works flourished. Where mosques
were covered in elaborate mosaics, where enormous libraries held thousands of books, and where
inventions and innovations were abundant. This golden age was created and made possible by the
perception of God in Islam, the effect of religion, and the growing importance of literacy.
Allah, the one true God of Islam, is transcendent unlike the Christian God who is perceived in human
form. To fathom Allah, one would need intelligence, intuitive knowledge of God, and some sense of
imagination. Allah can be perceived in nature and human epiphanies. This understanding of God, led
the Islamic scholars to be more observant in nature and to discover things on their own. The
fundamental beliefs in Islam can be summarized by the six articles of faith: belief in one God (Allah),
belief in Angels, belief in the Prophets (Adam, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammed), belief in the
Holy Books (Torah, Bible, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a time when Islamic art differed from that of the Roman and Byzantine Empire and started to
depict images and symbols of their beliefs. For example, the use of calligraphy as a decorative art was
not only for aesthetic purposes, but also a way for Muslims to connect with the Qu ran, their Holy
Book. Writing the words of the Qu ran was a way for them to worship Allah and receive divine
blessings at the same time. They would also write stories of the prophet Mohammed and write
dedication stones on Islamic buildings. The calligraphy also shows how important the Arabic language
was to the Muslims because it was crucial for prayer and to understand the Qu ran. Calligraphy as an
art form demonstrates how important literacy was in Islam at the

  • 2. The Democratic Government Of Canada Summary The Liberal Government of Canada has promised the implementation of a new electoral system within the next 18 months according to the second chapter of the document Real Change: A New Plan for a Strong Middle Class. The document seeks to affirm that the 2015 election will be the last federal election held under the first past the post electoral system and that many reform options will be thoroughly explored to replace it. Proportional representation (PR) systems appears to be the most beneficial and logical alternatives to our current system. However, there is variety of different forms of proportional representation and this paper will seek to explain why Single Transferable Vote is the most viable proportional representation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regionalism allows for some voters to have more power with their votes, particularly Ontario and Quebec over other provinces thus furthering regional tension and divide. Voters in areas with a lesser impact on the Election outcome may feel a sense of voter apathy and will be less likely to engage with political discourse. Potentially wasted ballots on small fringe parties with no chance of winning or in electoral districts with a strong partisan leaning. Parties that have a diffuse national support may be underrepresented in House of Commons, The New Democratic Party and in some historical instances the Conservative Party have been negatively impacted by this. The inverse of the prior problem occurs as well, parties with a concentrated regional support become over represented in the House of Commons; The Bloc Quebecois have traditionally been an example of this. Strategic voting may occur to ensure a party is removed from power, voters will vote for an opposing party with a good chance of winning versus a party with lesser support but whose platform they agree with. On Election Day a winner can be determined before polls across Canada close, once the Maritimes, Quebec and Ontario are counted, a winner can be determined before the polls close out West. • 3. Reflection On How I Learn English This semester, you helped me learn that English isn t just about writing, that it is about learning, too. You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can cause damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much added sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the WODs. They helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An assignment we did this year was shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to others. So this lesson about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we have. Nothing that you taught us needs to be revisited. I understand mostly everything that has been learned this semester, it just took me a lot of time to process it. My class last year, mostly did just personal narratives or book reports. I just wasn t expecting you to be so hard on us, especially the first semester. Although, you pushed my class and me to new limits, and I hope to do better the next part of this school year. As my teacher, I honestly think of you are a great teacher yet sometimes, you seem like you don t care about us. For example, there was this one time in class when we were taking an assessment and when I asked you for help, you just ignored me and looked away. Sometimes I wish you would try to help us more on things we are struggling with instead of just not caring at all. Your strengths are that you are very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Anorexia Nervosa And Bulimia Nervosa Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa are a few of the most common disorders struggled with today. Anorexia Nervosa is a condition of the intense fear to gain weight, which results in consistent lack of eating. Bulimia Nervosa, involves frequent episodes of binge eating followed by throwing up because of fear of gaining weight. The mortality rate for anorexia is the highest of all mental disorders yet the genetic factors relating them were not a huge concern to look into. It is easy to think that Anorexia and Bulimia are mentality induced only, but there are indeed genetic factors related despite how small the evidence may be. Personality disorders are heritable, and are commonly developed after an eating disorder or a large reason someone develops one. The study of serotonin, a compound found in Bulimia, Anorexia and depression, can be passed down through genes and they play a small part in eating disorders worth acknowledging. Inheriting genes that make an individual athletic naturally can affect the chances of eating disorder. There is no evidence that one particular gene could cause an eating disorder, but there are various traits and levels of compounds that when inherited, increase the likelihood of developing one. Personality disorders are more likely to develop from an eating disorder and are common preceding factors for one. Individuals exposed to stressful environments who are genetically more vulnerable, are at risk for developing an eating disorder. Narcissists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Raising Driving Age Teens have been a part of many accidents. They have caused many people to die. Would it be better to raise the age or let them get a licensed to be able to drive? Raising the age should help teens not commit car accidents. In 1995 through 2004 there was 30,917 fatalities in accidents involved 15 to 17 year olds, according to a study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. A third of those fatalities were teens themselves. The others were pedestrians, passengers, and people in cars that got hit. Raising the driving age may seem burdensome to parents and teens. Some say raising the driving ages won t save lives. Supporters of GDLs (graduated driver s licenses) say the GDL system saves lives. Opponents of GDLs say that GDLs make it ... Exhibition Review – Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Essay Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures. One of his most well known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance of the Victoria Albert Museum in London (figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street in London on the 23rd of January 2012. The entire exhibition was made up of glass sculptures fitting into several different genres created by the artist; for example Seaforms , Persians , both created in the 1980 s, and Fiori , which he created in the 2000 s. As the pieces were 3D, standing out from the wall, interesting coloured shadows and highlights were created with the lighting on the white walls. The viewers could walk beneath the pieces to view the underneath of each bowl like disc, and see the detail of different coloured glass swirled into the piece. The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the piece, softening it. Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created in the 1970 s, as I thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another, showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of scales. The lip wrap on each basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and is a trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the centre of the baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within. I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon Gallery (figures 10 and 11). The deep red and blues within the Cranberry and Clear Chandelier and the Dusky Sky Chandelier draw the attention of passers by, encouraging you to step closer and view the intricacies of each handcrafted piece of the two chandeliers. So many things and events leading to our departure and details of the immigration process now are vague in my memory, but I do not want to forget them completely; also, there are grandkids that someday may want to know a little about their roots. Although, I realize that my story was very typical and thousands of other families had similar experiences, I still want to recall as much as possible and be as truthful as possible, while describing our passage to America. For my parents, husband, daughter, and I our apartment had to be no more than 720 sq. feet or the size of average one bedroom apartment in America. My parent s apartment was slightly bigger. Thinking that I will have to spend the rest of my life sharing apartment with my parents made me desperate, (my mom was not very fond of my husband and the feeling was mutual, although their relationship improved after we moved out). How Did William Penn Influence America After traveling throughout Europe with George Fox, the founder of the Quaker belief, William Penn was finally granted land over in the new world by the King Charles II, the king of England at the time. The land was a way to settle the king s debt with Penn s father, however William Penn had requested the land for a different purpose a place the Quakers could finally live and not be oppressed. Through his construction of Pennsylvania, Penn had an enormous influence on the future United States of America through his belief of religious freedom, being a humanitarian, and by creating an ethnic diversity in the middle colony. His Quaker religion had a major influence on Pennsylvania, since each Quaker let each person follow the light of Jesus in their own way. Also, Penn promoted the human welfare for each group that came into Pennsylvania, and tried to create a sufficient government that ran well enough to support each group. However when developing the population of Pennsylvania, Penn did something that was extremely uncommon at the time he invited extremely ethnically diverse groups to live in harmony. Domesticity In Hawthorne s The House Of The Seven Gables The House of the Seven Gables has often been described as containing domestic ideas, and many readers have noted that Hawthorne draws on his own personal cult of domesticity in patterning Phoebe after his wife Sophia. But when we isolate the particular conventions of the domestic novel, we can see the great extent to which The House of the Seven Gables resemble this popular genre in its plot, characters, setting, and imagery. Most importantly, Hawthorne s story embodies the primary ideology of the cult of domesticity: the value of love and human relationships as opposed to materialism and self centeredness. Modern readings of the novel often concentrate on this static nature of the house. But reading more closely with a domestic lense, we see just how the plot focuses on two female characters. After the novels historical introduction, the narrative opens with Hepzibah, who dominates the action for three chapters until Phoebe arrives. A common complaint about Phoebe is that we have not seen enough of her to prepare us for her pivotal role in the novel s conclusion, but looking at the narrative structure we can see how she unobtrusively controls the action. Chapters 5 14 all depict Phoebe s interacting in turn with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The marriage of Phoebe and Holgrave, the new affluence of the three Pyncheons, and everyone s removal to the late Judge s country house pose significant critical problems. Hawthorne appears to begin with a story that condemns the past, aristocratic ideology, and isolation and to conclude having all of the characters embrace these corrupted values. Elaboration Likelihood Model Petty and Cacioppo s theory of persuasion is one of the most highly studied theories, in 1986 they published an article, in which they posted that there are two routes through which persuasion can take place. Furthermore, when people process messages centrally, they then evaluate the arguments within the message the logical factual to the extent that their cognitive responses the thoughts they have about the arguments while reading the message are positive. On the other hand, when individuals lack either the motivation or ability to carefully process and think about the arguments within a counterattitudinal message, they will use the peripheral route in order to persuade. The average person does not get to live in a mansion, or on the beach, or even eat at the fanciest five star restaurants. As a rather costly private school, only students who can afford the annual tuition are able to attend. At Upper Cort however, each food item has its own price, often each more than one meal swipe, therefore ultimately costing two or even three times as much as a normal meal. For an average college student, who is poor do to all of the costs and money spending opportunities around them at all times, this is a luxury. Because most college students are limited on meal swipes by their individual meal plans, they cannot afford this. The students who have more money though, the elite in this situation, are at the advantage because they can enjoy the privilege of eating at the Upper Cort balcony, if they find it that is. The fact that this does greatly increase a student s probability to enter the balcony is true, but it does not mean that the student is guaranteed to enter the room itself. After all, it is tucked away in a nook, as shown in Exhibit C, where only those with prior knowledge of it are likely to find it.This means that the while being tucked away does not cause students to not come to it, it definitely decreases the probability that any given individual will choose to dine there. Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or why not? The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating interest payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much, the notional amount is 1 billion US dollars. The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120. What type of financial institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates? There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The swap spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the same horizon. So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. For example, if the current peak period demand is 59 planes and a fee of $250 can reduce it to 40 planes, the total costs that conventional jets incur decreases from $4641.11 to $526.16. However, if the current demand is 50 planes, a fee of $250, which reduces the demand to 40 planes, would not be offset, Further, it must be noted that conventional jets benefit the most from a decrease in demand resulting from a PPP. He is credited as one of the greatest minds of the 17th century Scientific Revolution. With his discoveries in optics, motion, and mathematics, Newton developed the principles of modern physics. He also shares credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the creation/development of Calculus. In 1666, Newton began contributing to the field of optics, first by observing that color was a property of light by measuring it through a prism. From 1670 to 1672, he lectured at the University of Cambridge on optics and investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that the multicolored spectrum produced by a prism could be recomposed into white light by a lens and a second prism. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health, and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common pursuits. ... Inattention is said to manifest though behaviours such as wandering off and difficulty in maintaining focus. Firstly, the position in favour of the change will be considered, and in particular the similarity between fully diagnosed ADHD subjects and late onset ADHD subjects. The position against the change will look at the issue from a biological standpoint arguing that raising the age of onset to 12 years may not necessarily capture ADHD in individuals; but rather, biological changes as a result of puberty. According to the DSM 5, an age earlier than 12 was not selected to be part of the requirement for the diagnosis due to the difficulty for adults to establish precise childhood onset retrospectively (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Changes to the age of onset to before 12 years old is justified, in part, by the similarity between fully diagnosed ADHD subjects and late onset ADHD subjects. A study by Applegate et al. (1997) compared a sample of youth who met the criteria for ADHD and displayed impairment before the age of 7, with youth who met the criteria but did not display impairment. They found that the age of onset varied depending on the ADHD subtype. 18% of combined subtype and 43% of the predominantly inattentive subtype had no manifestation until after they were 7 years old.
