IKONOS was the world's first commercial satellite to provide high-resolution imagery to the public. It was operated by GeoEye and collected over 300 million square kilometers of imagery from 2000 onward. IKONOS had a multispectral sensor with 4 bands at 4m resolution and a panchromatic band at 1m resolution, providing high-quality 11-bit imagery for uses such as national security, mapping, and government applications.
