Jeremy Harmer - “How to teach English”, Chapter 11.
 It is a judgement produced before using a textbook.
 We must always consider our students' needs,
 We may use checklists:
- Price and availability - Add-ons and extras.
- Layout and design - Instructions
- Methodology
o Syllabus type, selection and grading.
o Language study activities.
o Language skill activities
o Topics: Are they appealing?
o Cultural acceptability
o Usability: Are we really going to profit from this book on our classes? Is it
going to be useful for the next year?
o Teacher's guide
Evaluation Measures
 Teacher record.
 Teacher discussion.
 Student response.
 Discuss. Reasons for/ against using coursebooks:

OPTIONS
 DIY approach. (Do it yourself!)
 Or using a textbook
 We can use them critically:
 Omit.
 Replace strategies.
 Teachers may change activities: add, rewrite, re-order, reduce.
