2. Social Psychological Analysis Of Wild Hogs And Del Fuegos
Wild Hogs A group of four middle aged men plan a long trip away from their work, stress, and family.
Due to their extreme excitement, they fail to think of problems that may occur along the way. The four
wild hogs set off on the journey. Everything was going great until the trip started to throw many small
obstacles at them. Things took a turn for the worst when the four wild hogs ran into the Del Fuegos, a
real life biker gang. The four men soon realized they were in for a long trip. In this movie, there are
many examples of social psychology topics. Discrimination, aggression, attitude change, and
friendship are among some of the most important. When the guys walk in the first saloon, they are
instantly discriminated against because of

3. Catholic Marriage Vs Anglican Marriage
Marriage is the unification between a man and a woman, instituted and ordained by God, for the
lifelong relationship between one man as husband and one woman as a wife. This is what the ritual of
marriage means in Christian churches. Many people choose not to marry in the Christian church due
to the strict format you have to follow. However, based on my ethnographic results and research, there
are wide ranges of options where marriages in Catholic and Anglican religions can be adapted to,
however; it is directed by their Church authorities to a certain degree.
The introductory rites are similar in both Catholic and Anglican marriages, with some differences.
Catholics have two options on how they walk in. They can either walk down the aisle ... Show more

It is where a couple makes sacred promises to one another and consent to get married to that particular
person. Rings are also exchanged during this time. This richly symbolic action seals commitment to
one another. The giving of consent means you marry each other and that you make the promise to each
other to be ever loving and faithful and bear children. Vows can only be adapted slightly. This can be
the case of my interviewee who chose not to put the word obey in their vows. The vows were chosen
from guides or booklets where they can pick from a selection of marriage vows. In Anglican
weddings, the consent is asked by the celebrant, addressing the groom and then the bride to love,
comfort, honour and protect each other. Couple with joined hands, facing one another, then exchange
vows. They should include keywords such as to love and to cherish as long as we both live . Rings are
also exchanged. My Anglican interviewees used the church s vows and adapted it a little bit. The
exchange of vows and rings is the main feature for couples, which shows that they are now married
and that they are husband and wife. There is a limited range in changes in Christian weddings.
However, there are some options for people who want to personalise it but only to a certain degree
such as the vows. The church vows are more favourable since it consists of all the necessary things a

4. The Role Of Sympathy In Romanticism
Sympathy is the combination of Latin and Greek words, syn. and pathos which give the meaning of
companion feeling. Here syn. means together and pathos means feeling. It is taken as the awareness,
thoughtful, and response to the distress or need of another human being. This empathic concern is
taken by a change in viewpoint, from a personal perspective to the perspective of another group or
individual who is in need. This transition helps to being responsive to others feelings, emotions, and
positions which lead to an accommodation of their perspective. This response, according to C. Taylor,
is primitive by which he means the immediate and unthinking reactions unexplainable in terms of
some more fundamental feature of human nature (Taylor, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He maintains that passions may be termed irrational either when they are founded on the supposition
of the existence of objects which really do not exist or when in exerting any passion in action, we
choose means insufficient for the designed end and deceive ourselves in our judgment of causes and
effects (Frazer, The enlightenment of Sympathy, 2010, p. 42). Hume s explanation of sympathy is that,
the greater degree of similarity between two individuals or their passions, the easier and stronger is the
communication of sentiments between them. Not only the contiguity in space and time but also the
previous ties of blood or affection, can afford a greater sense of closeness to the candidate objects of
sympathy. To wrap up, in the Humean notion of sympathy, the objects of one s sympathy are distinct
from the object of moral evaluation. The sympathetic response of a spectator engaged in moral
evaluation is basic to human virtue. A Humean judge is likely to approve of an actor with benevolent,

My first case was the Mexican Government Advises Migrants in a pamphlet in which it advises those
who want to try to cross the border illegally, some safeguards to keep in mind while attempting to
cross the border. The pamphlet was released in 2005 with the intentions of the Mexican government to
reduce the number of deaths that were occurring during the attempted crossings. Globalization in these

countries could be affected negatively economically. The solutions would be to make the process of
entering the U.S. less daunting. Labor is needed and some Americans won t accept those jobs at the
proposed wages. Possibly allow companies to relocate along the border, which will technically keep
the company in the U.S. but would be close enough to allow workers interested to come across and

6. A Research Study On Finance And Economics
Two years ago while I offered a research job at Cambridge in applied economics, one of my friends
jokingly quipped that one day I would be the next Raghuram Rajan, who had just taken over as the
Governor of the Reserve Bank of India following his academic position. I smiled as I had then not
considered the possibility of becoming an academic who could wield such power in designing policies
to govern the financial institution of the world s largest democracy. In retrospect, this does not seem
very far from the truth with respect to my long term career goals. I consider it a privilege to contribute
meaningful work that would improve the financial standards in my country. My interest in a
quantitative field like finance and economics comes as no surprise, since Mathematics is one of my
favorite subjects and my forte right from secondary school. The power of these subjects to cater to
practical applications in the real world setting led to my close involvement with them, which was also
instrumental for my qualifying for the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad. For my undergraduate
studies, I chose Mechanical Engineering over the other options, at one of the top universities for this
discipline in my country, due to its significant quantitative content and for the possibility of applying
those tools to solving complex problems, which I did. The rigorous pure math training spanning 3
semesters including topics in linear and vector algebra, multivariate calculus, differential

8. The Films Of Federico Fellini Analysis
Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press.
The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By
analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and
explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially
rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development
of his unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments
in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is
his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is
able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of
in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired
generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that
Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole another level of intimacy
with the characters in the film, allowing for better characterization in his cinema. We can use this
information accumulated by Bondanella to emphasize the tremendous importance of Fellini s work.

plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. These are made of misfolded proteins which can stick together

disrupt cellular communication and metabolism. The third main feature of Alzheimer s is the loss of
connections between cells leading to the ill functioning and death of cells (Institute and Aging, 2011).

Metaphysical Poetry: Much More Than Wit The two main views of metaphysical poetry, as composed
by poets A.E. Housman and T.S. Eliot, are vastly different. Eliot s view of metaphysical poetry is a
very positive and respectful one. He admires the uniqueness of the metaphysical poets when he
describes them as reflective poets as opposed to merely intellectual ones. Eliot says they have the
ability to feel their thought as immediately as the odor of a rose, compared to the strictly thought
driven traditional poetry of lyrical poets. Housman s view is significantly more harsh and critical. In
reference to metaphysical poetry, he says that poetry, as a label for this particular commodity, is not
appropriate. According to Housman, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting shift, as well as an example of assonance, is seen when the speaker says, but oh, to no
end (Line 6). In this moment of lament, the speaker begins to seem pathetic and his other commands
to God begin to seem more like emotional begging. He is troubled that his reason [...] proves weak
and untrue (Lines 7 8). In line 7, the concept of reason is personified as an ambassador to the town
when the speaker says, Reason, your viceroy in me, me [...] This line contains anadiplosis, followed
by an example of consonance found in the phrase, should defend, / but is captiv d. Line 8 describes
this ambassador of reason as being held captive by sin. In line 9, the poem becomes more personal
when the speaker expresses his overall feelings toward God by saying, Yet dearly I love you, and
would be loved fain. The speaker uses consonance to show he knows his love is requited. However, he
feels he cannot accept God s gift of love because he is betroth d unto [God s] enemy (Line 10). He
continues with this metaphor of marriage by asking God to Divorce [him] (Line 11) from his sin.

According to Roger Ebert, nightmare movies such as the Labyrinth are not as suspenseful as they
should be. These movies do not follow any rules or logic. Anything can occur, nothing has to happen,
rules continuously change, and nothing is as it seems. He believes we are wasting energy caring:
Consider, for example, the scene in Labyrinth where Sarah thinks she is waking up from her horrible
dream and opens the door of her bedroom. Anything could be outside that door. He also believes the
Muppet idea works better when humans visit the Muppet world as in the Muppet Movies rather than
when Muppets appear the human world. He states another problem with the film is its length. Ebert
argues that without a strong plot to carry us through the movie, movies like this are endanger of
becoming just a series of incidents: There s no structure to the order of the adventures. Sarah does this,
she does that, she s almost killed here, almost trapped there, until at last nothing much

PET 3351 Exercise Physiology Second Exam Review (Fall 2012)
Chapter IV: The Physiological Basis of Muscular Strength and Flexibility
1. Strength is operationally defined as the maximal force that can be exerted in a single effort. Using
this definition, strength should be assessed using one repetition maximum (1 RM), though we often
estimate strength using tests that may involve multiple repetitions.
2. In strength training and rehabilitation, emphasis should be given to both the concentric and
eccentric phases of the movement. During the concentric phase, the muscle shortens from a
lengthened position and during the eccentric phase the muscle lengthens from a shortened position.
For example, in the execution of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example many people will show an improvement in strength from the first session to the second
session. This improvement is due to CNS adaptation because there is no hypertrophic gain during this
short period. Another example which proves the importance of CNS adaptations related to strength
gains is that strength performance may increase by 30% while hypertrophic gains may only be 15%,
thus half of the strength gains is attributable to CNS adaptations. Generally in the first few months of
strength training CNS adaptations account for a larger percentage of the strength gain than
hypertrophic adaptations. To illustrate the importance of CNS adaptations in the early part of training,
it should be noted that electrical stimulation can increase the rate of strength gains. Hypertrophy is an
important factor in improved strength performance. Strength training brings about an increase in the
size and number of myofibrils. It is speculated that during and following a high intensity strength
training session the neuroendocrine responses will bring about an increased amino acid uptake and
will increase the rate of protein synthesis. Optimal hypertrophic gains require adequate recovery
between workouts to permit the rate of protein synthesis to exceed the rate of protein degradation. It
should also be noted that strength training also stimulates bone and

St. Martin s Press, headquartered in New York, NY, published the novel in 2009. Dr. Donaldson s

I enjoyed reading this novel due to the descriptive passages relating to culture and the captivating
nature of the author s main focus. All things considered, the only way The Lassa Ward could be more
informative was if all the action was taken away and it became strictly non fiction. One connection
that I can form between the novel and my own life is the reaction and feelings that Ross encountered
after being left alone in the Lassa ward when Dr. Conteh departed. I, too, have felt the same emotions
the first time that I ran the A/V equipment at church all alone. I was slightly excited, slightly
concerned, and very anxious just like what I can assume Ross felt. Now, my experience is not of the
same caliber as Dr. Donaldson s endeavor running the Lassa ward; however, we both faced the same
feelings regarding being unaccompanied for the first time. Another connection that I can produce
between the novel and my own experiences is that both Ross and I have both encountered stepping
foot onto foreign, tropical soil. A few years ago, I visited a few of the Caribbean islands on a cruise,

You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God, Peter pronounces in Matthew 16:16. Jesus is the

Jesus was born of a virgin. God demonstrated His sovereignty over all, as a gift of grace, in Jesus

17. The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid
To Aid or Not to Aid
Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the
mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid,
through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to
mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the
Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment,
medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common
foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations
such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and
promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary
to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies
improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States
and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city,
state, or country. Most people think that a large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. In
contrast, according to Rutsch (2015), the U.S. spends less than 1 percent of the federal budget on
foreign aid . With the state of the world today,

as to why they are commonly known as the Romance languages, and the simple answer is that all
these languages lead back to the language of the Romans: Latin. Latin became a language commonly
used during the start of the city of Rome, around the Tiber River, in the seventh century B.C., but
unfortunately came to an end during the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965, where the
Catholic Church made the decision to change the language of the liturgies from Latin to the vernacular
language of the area. Although the Latin language is considered dead in modern society, the evolution
of Latin into the Romantic languages has been able to influence billions of speakers since the ninth
century. One might be inquisitive as to how a language can change over time, but languages do not
just change, they evolve, as well. Language is a natural growth, and not an instrument which we shape
for our own purposes (Orwell 707). Languages cannot change by force, but rather will change over a
period of time with the help of society to influence the development of words and phrases. The
evolution of languages comes naturally, usually with influences from other spoken languages close
enough to the main region where a language is spoken. These changes enter the language, and, with
time, the language has

24. The East India Company ( Eic )
A corporation, as defined by the Business Dictionary, is a Firm that meets certain legal requirements
to be recognized as having a legal existence, as an entity separate and distinct from its owners. One of
the earliest known corporations was the East India company (EIC), receiving its Royal Charter from
Queen Elizabeth I, in 1600, which granted it the right to incorporate during a time when most people
were either sole proprietors or in partnerships. The EIC was a charter company whose most lucrative
commodity was tea, opium and textiles. Their power and influence was unparalleled and unyielding,
acting as a governing authority in places with weak or no governments. By taking control of the
Bengal opium industry, they were able to trade opium for tea in China, using the excess gains to buy
textiles in Bengal and use them to trade for slaves in Africa, which ultimately they sold for gold in
America. These army backed bandits were above the law and beneath the bailout. By the time of their
eventual demise, the world had changed and laws were put into place to prevent another EIC era,
which better fit Ambrose Bierce s Devil s Dictionary description of a corporation as, an ingenious
device for obtaining profit without individual responsibility .

Kendra Holdener
Maryville University
INTRODUCTION Kasia was and still is my best friend growing up. We had gone on several
vacations together with each other s families. Then there was one vacation that I went with her on
right before our senior year of high school. Her family has a passion for flying, they have three planes
now and Kasia had planned on becoming a commercial pilot. Because of their passion for flying they
go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin every summer for the EAAAirVenture, which is a big flight convention
outdoors. I went with them one year and I started to notice some things with Kasia. I noticed that she
was constantly going to the bathroom and with every glass of water I had she would have had three. I
pointed this out to her and told her that she should go see a doctor. I did not know what was wrong
with her I just knew there was something wrong with her. Six months later she went to the doctor for a
flight physical to make sure she was healthy enough to become a pilot. They tested her blood sugar
and it was in the 700s. On April 23 2014 Kasia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes
is when someone becomes dependent on insulin in order to keep them from becoming hyperglycemic.
Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the beta cells in the pancreas destroy themselves or the immune system
attacks them and kills them (Sommers, 2015). This form of diabetes is not caused by obesity and

28. Analysis Of Julia Alvarez s Woman s Work
31. Woman s work Julia Alvarez In this poem Woman s Work , the mother is forced to do household
cleaning which represents a domestic life and the impact of gender specific roles. This poem is written
in the third person point of view. The speaker is the daughter of a mother who doesn t work outside,
but only inside of the house, and is forced to do household cleaning with her as she hears her friends
playing outside in the street. Author Julia Alvarez uses imagery, simile, and alliteration to portray the
meaning of the poem that women work harder than men. In lines 5 6, keep house as if the address
were your heart. It basically means to keep the memories of the home in the heart. The memories of
the households are special and should never be forgotten. But the word your is used to symbolize the
dad as something special to the house and family. The daughter shows that the dad is never around the
house and leaves all the housework to the mother and herself since she s helping her mother. The dad
being someone special shows that he has the power and control in the house that represents a domestic
life for the mother and daughter. In line 24 29 it quotes, And I, her masterpiece since I was smart, was
primed, praised, polished, scolded and advised to keep a house much better than my heart . In the
poem letter P repeats itself using the words primed, praised and polished Those were the goals that she
had to follow and tried to achieve. 32. Barbie Doll Marge

29. Stolen Art of the Holocaust
While death was the major tragedy of the Holocaust, all of the art stolen was definitely a dark spot.
Most people don t realize, but the art was taken from all Jews and many others by the Nazis. Some
pieces of art have been found, but most still remain lost. Many that have been discovered are in
museums and are not given to the true owners. There should be efforts spent on finding and recovering
the art stolen by the Nazis to return it to their rightful owners. Hitler would have his soldiers take the
art from the homes where the Jews lived when they took them away. Sometimes, if he wanted a
specific work of art, he would have his people steal it or take it and kill the people who owned it. He
would have his men steal all of the art and other artifacts from the homes of every person they took to
the concentration camps, as well as those they simply killed in their homes. Taking the art was his way
of taking everything from them, and a way that he could show his superiority over them. He took it
because it was something they had that he wanted. Very few works of art taken by Hitler have been
found, and many that are discovered reside in museums. Some have been discovered in museums or
galleries in Austria, while thousands still remain lost. Recently, a long lost Monet and other art
treasures stolen from Jews during the Holocaust have been discovered in the home of an 81 year old
German art collector, Julian states (Julian). Cornelius Gurlitt, the art

SS physician, famous for his twisted medical experiments on concentration camp prisoners at
Auschwitz. Mengele was born on March 16, 1911, in Gunzburg. He was the oldest son of Karl
Mengele, a manufacturer of farming implements. At the University of Munich in 1935, he earned a
Ph.D.in anthropology, the study of human societies and cultures and their development. In January
1937, he came the assistant of Dr. Otmar von Verschuer, a widely known scientists for his research

improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable
characteristics. The study of eugenics actually came from California. Eugenics was born as a scientific
curiosity in the Victorian age. In 1863, Sir Francis Galton theorized that if talented people only ...

Brandt, said that the camps were the perfect laboratories for their experiments. The doctors in the
camps thought of the people as experiments and worthless. To them, using them for medical purposes
was a way to make their life meaningful, and if they died because of this nothing was lost. They put
gasoline inside of people and then shocked them with electricity to see if this would kill them, and
they took away food from prisoners and watched how long it would take to starve to death. According

To evaluate our systems classi cation performance, i.e. the proportion of correctly classi ed tweets

32. Walden, By Henry David Thoreau
The majority of Henry David Thoreau s Walden, concerns the idea of opting out of society. In his
chapter Solitude Thoreau describes how [his] horizon bounded by woods all to [himself] (111) is
beautiful and belongs solely to him. As he is enjoying nature Thoreau states, There can be no very
black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of Nature (111). Thoreau s theme of being alone and
appreciating nature is found throughout his book to such an extent that one can conclude that he
believes the best way to live is without society. Thoreau cannot stand to pay his taxes because he
refuses to, recognize the authority of, the state which buys and sells men, women, and children (145).

People love to have the newest toys, and put great stock in the newest fashion trends. In present day
society, new technology or clothes symbolize status and wealth that separates the social classes of
people. Thoreau shows his readers that this form of separation has existed since the eighteen hundreds.
Thoreau comments on how people would often throw out perfectly good clothes, because of one little
hole, because people are judged by their clothes (20). This upsets Thoreau because to him, a little bit
of damage does not mean something is useless or broken. He believes that people should just patch the
hole, since it is more cost effective and will increase the duration of the articles lifetime. However,
more commonly the piece of clothing is thrown out to be replaced by a new article. In Thoreau s eyes,
people follow such a practice because, Our outside and often thin and fanciful clothes are our
epidermis or false skin (21). Thoreau s dislike of society stems from the fact that people [Donn]
garment after garment (21), taking too much pride in their outward appearance. The idea that the value
of a person s life is dictated by their possessions is one reason why Thoreau believes that society
serves to corrupt and infect everyone who is a part of it. Society refuses to live by necessity alone, but
rather focuses on the accumulation of

33. Theme Of Language Devices In The Joy Luck Club
In The Joy Luck Club, language devices such as figurative language, diction, sentence structure, and
significant detail are used to characterize the different characters in the book. These language devices
capture the characters emotions, personality, qualities of mind, and goals. Amy Tan uses a variety of
language devices to characterize Ying ying s emotions of sorrow, disconnection, shame, love, her
passive, careless personality, and her quality of mind of determination.
The use of language devices creates Ying ying s emotions of sorrow and her passive personality and
quality of mind. Throughout the novel, Ying ying mentions that her daughter Lena and she are ghosts.
The ghost becomes a symbol of passivity, a symbol of not taking action to stop bad things from
happening. The ghost symbol creates Ying ying s voice by representing her passive personality and
quality of mind. Additionally, the author uses significant pieces of detail. In The Moon Lady, Ying
ying gets lost. She observes her shadow and describes it, It was shorter this time, shrunken and wild
looking. We ran together over to some bushes along a walkway and hid (80). This piece of detail
shows a personality shift in Ying ying. It describes the changes in Ying ying s shadow which
represents the change of her restless personality to a passive and silent one. Another language device
used is diction. When introducing The Moon Lady, Ying ying says, And I want to tell her this: We are
lost, she and I, unseen and not seen, unheard and not hearing, unknown by others (64). The words
unseen, unheard, and unknown are related to one another at a certain level, and they create a general
picture of Ying ying s emotion. Ying ying feels anguish for not doing anything in her whole life and
letting herself become a ghost. The diction also reveals Ying ying s anguish for letting her daughter
become a ghost like herself.
Language devices capture Ying ying s emotions of disconnection and her careless personality. Ying
ying starts to talk about her daughter Lena and the effect her passive personality has on her. Ying ying
explains how she lived in America, accepting everything that came her way and how she accepted
Lena s American ways. She says,

34. Similarities And Differences Between Merchant Of Venice...
Two of Shakespeare s works, The Merchant of Venice and Twelfth Night, both have a parallel plot
structure which involves a woman disguising herself as a man in order to accomplish some goal. In
the former, Portia disguises herself as a lawyer so as to enter the Duke s court and help her husband s
friend, Antonio, avoid having a pound of his flesh cut off. In the latter, Viola disguises herself as
Cesario so she can enter Duke Orsino s court and work as a page. This parallel structure is further
strengthened by the fact that in both plays, the woman in disguise has to perform some task that
(during Shakespeare s time) was usually performed by a man. Portia has to defend her husband s
friend, Antonio, in court, while Viola has to engage in a sword fight with Sir Andrew. Despite the
many similarities, there is a subtle difference: Portia seems much more confident in her role as a man
when compared to Viola. We see when Portia is effective and confident as a lawyer but Viola is
reluctant to spar with Sir Andrew in a sword fight, and also when she is weary that the Fool has caught
on to her disguise. This difference reflects the theme of challenging prejudice in The Merchant of
Venice, and also reflect the theme of highlighting gender difference in Twelfth Night, which reveals a
lot about both plays as a whole.
Portia shows much confidence as a lawyer in the trial scene (Act 4 Scene 1) of The Merchant of
Venice. For example, she displays great knowledge of the laws of Venice when

35. Different Theories Of Psychology, And Beliefs And...
Everyone has their own philosophy about the way we live our lives, and how we follow a certain path
to get to our destination. One s philosophy may be based on their religious beliefs, what they were
taught growing up, or both. I was raised Christian and many of the beliefs I have stems from my
Christian roots. I was always told God was the reason a person behaved a certain way or the devil.
Now that I am older, and mostly due to my college education, I see the world differently. Before
learning about the different theories in psychology, and the beliefs and techniques that come with
them, I had applied many to my own life before. I am spiritual and I believe that many people are born
with destinies. I believe we are all on a path predetermined for us and that we take many detours along
the way. If we take the wrong detour, whether it be days, months, or years, something drastic will
happen to get us back on the right path. When we make friends, they either work out, or something
awful happens that ends the friendship. Once the air has been cleared, one can realize that a certain
person was leading us down the wrong path. The way we live life is largely influenced by the
company we keep and our upbringing. I have friends who were born in corrupt neighborhoods to
parents who were on drugs and they went down the same trail as them. Their environment played a
large part in how they chose to live their lives. Some people have a biological predisposition for drugs,

36. Medical Use of Psilocybin Essay
During a visit to Mexico, Gordon Wasson, a mycologist, discovered the use of psilocybin mushroom
in spiritual ceremonies by Indian tribes. Upon experiencing the spiritual and hallucinatory effects of
the mushroom, Wasson returned to the area accompanied by an experienced mycologist, Roger Heim,
who managed to cultivate the mushroom once in France and send samples of it to the scientist who
had discovered lysergic acid, Albert Hoffman. From the mushrooms, Hoffman successfully isolated
two compounds which he further named psilocybin and psilocin. Analogs of these compounds were
further synthesized and were employed mainly for psychotherapeutic uses. Many tests on psilocybin
were made at Harvard University in the early 1960 s. However, ... Show more content on

Once in the stomach, due to the highly acidic environment, psilocybin undergoes a removal of its
phosphate group, and is converted into psilocin. This process is called dephosphorylation. Aqueous
solutions of psilocybin are very sensitive to light and rapidly oxidize in its presence. A great variety of
analytical methods can be used for psilocybin identification and evaluation. Amongst them are thin
layer chromatography, gas chromatography used along with mass spectrometry , infrared spectroscopy
and high performance liquid chromatography.
Treatment Although prescribed use of psilocybin is rare nowadays for medicinal purposes; many tests
have been done on its medicinal uses in patients with personality disorders. Some tests have shown a
noticeable reduction in obsessive compulsive disorder as a result of psilocybin use. Psilocybin has also
been tested and is sometimes administered to cancer patients and has been proven to ease mental
stress and the emotional baggage caused by cancer by changing the patient s perspective on his/her
situation and life in general. This compound has also been proven to reduce the pain resulting from
cluster headaches in 85 % of patients tested and distanced the frequency of the attacks in 96% of
patients.
