Abstract: In this paper we present a load measurement scheme for home energy management system with energy demand
management. The proposed system will have control of various appliances that are available in the home. It manages
household loads according to their predefined priority and guarantees the total household power consumption below certain
levels. The home energy management system will receive the demand response from the utility side. The goal of the system
is to encourage the consumer to use less energy during peak hours or to move the time of energy use to off peak times such
as nighttime and weekends. Thus the high peak to average ratio (PAR) of power will be avoided and also we adopt real time
pricing. The utility company use real time dynamic pricing to coordinate demand responses to the benefit of the overall
system. Hence for this purpose we need to measure the power consumed by the various appliances that are available in the
home.

Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery
Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures. One of his most well
known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance of the Victoria Albert Museum in London
(figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon
Gallery on New Bond Street in London on the 23rd of January 2012.
The entire exhibition was made up of glass sculptures fitting into several different genres created by the artist; for example
Seaforms , Persians , both created in the 1980 s, and Fiori , which he created in the 2000 s. Chihuly explored a variety of

As the pieces were 3D, standing out from the wall, interesting coloured shadows and highlights were created with the
lighting on the white walls. The viewers could walk beneath the pieces to view the underneath of each bowl like disc, and
see the detail of different coloured glass swirled into the piece. The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the
piece, softening it.
Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created in the 1970 s, as I
thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really
liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another, showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of
scales. The lip wrap on each basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and
is a trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the centre of the
baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within.
I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon Gallery (figures 10 and
11). The deep red and blues within the Cranberry and Clear Chandelier and the Dusky Sky Chandelier draw the attention of
passers by, encouraging you to step closer and view the intricacies of each handcrafted piece of the two chandeliers. I feel
they were the ideal pieces of work to advertise the

English, but rather Gaelic. By the time the second wave of Irish immigrants arrived in the mid 19th century, yet more
differences existed between these two waves. Those immigrants who had arrived earlier were by now relatively more
wealthy and established than their more recent counterparts. But through their common threads Irish men and women, the
established communities provided financial and political aid to their newly arriving brethren. The Shamrock Friendly
Association, an Irish aid group comprised of prosperous Irish American citizens, published an informational pamphlet in
1816 entitled Hints to Emigrants from Europe. In it, they tell Irish immigrants that they may derive benefit from the counsel
and guidance of friends, and that if one has gone the road [they] are about to travel, by only showing [them] how it winds
beyond the next hill, (Shamrock Friendly Association 4) they would be better able to navigate their path in America
