The Discovery Of The Indigenous Native Peoples
In 1492, when Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, he didn t anticipate the existence of the
indigenous native peoples that had inhabited the land for the past 10,000 years or more. Incidently,
Columbus didn t even consider that these people were native to the land or that he was on a new
founded continent. Colombus first considered them to be Indians from India but quickly he
realized his mistake. After gathering information and goods he returned home. In the 1500s Spanish
exploration led by conquistadors who led to the discovery of what would become known as the
PowhatanIndians after they found and kidnapped a young Algonquian boy. In 1607, the English
founded the colony of Jamestown in Virgina, just ten miles from the Powhatan capital of
Werowocomoco. The Powhatans were later forced to move their capital up the Chickahominy River
to Orapax to create distance between the Powhatans and the English settlers. The history between
the Powhatan Indians and the Europeans is a long one that passes through the early sixteenth
century to the late eighteenth century and even in the modern day era. Differences between the
Europeans and the Powhatans notoriously caused rivalry and conflict among them. The Algonquian
speaking Powhatan people were indigenous to the east coast of the North America. At it s largest,
the confederacy extended north of Alexandria along the Potomac River, south to the Neuse River
in North Carolina, west along Virginia s fall line, and east to the

Effects Of Block Scheduling On Academic Achievement
Effects of Block Scheduling on Academic Achievement in Secondary Mathematics Since the dawn
of time, it has been one of man s goals to constantly improve oneself. Education is one way in
which man is able to improve their ability to reason, their potential earnings, and a variety of others.
It is this drive to improve oneself that educationis continually under the microscope. The scrutiny
of education reached an all time high in 1983 when A Nation at Risk was published (Evans,
McCray, Rice Tokarczyk, 2002; Walker, 2000; Zelkowski, 2010). One particular area this study
attacked was the utilization of time in education (Walker, 2000). Districts began to discuss block
schedulingas a way to improve the instruction students receive. Now with the adoption of No
Child Left Behind (NCLB), schools are faced with the ever tough challenge of meeting
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Taking a second look at the current structure of the school
schedule may help to alleviate some of the pressure currently placed on education (Walker,
2000). Zelowski (2010) states, In the US it is acceptable to say I am not good at math , I hate
math or Don t worry honey [parent referring to child], I was not good at math either, so it is okay
for you too. However, you will rarely, if ever, hear someone admit in our society that they cannot
read (p. 18). This statement helps to emphasize why it is necessary to gain a better understanding of
how the educational field may improve student

Sharon Bryant Interview Paper
The person who I choose to interview for this paper is my grandmother Sharon Bryant (nГ©e
Kimple), and the main reason I chose to interview her was that I really did not know much about
her life story and wanted to learn more. Currently she is 72 years old, and lives in Vancouver,
Washington with her husband of 52 years Allan Bryant. She has been retired for the past two
years and enjoys spending her free time quilting and sewing, and does not have any major
medical issues aside from a few allergies. Sharon was born March 27th 1943 in Glendale,
California. For the first couple years of her early childhood her motherwas working while her
father was a photographer and a Seabee (construction worker) until the end of World War 2. She
first met her father when she was four years old. Her father struggled with PTSD when he got
back and Sharon described him as intelligent and nice, but could become very mean and angry,
and that she was to be seen but not heard. Sharon is the older of two sisters and spent a lot of time
helping raise them as both her parents owned businesses with her mother owning a catering
company and her father a paint strainer manufacturing business. One of the first major events she
remembers from her childhood was a major car accident when she was in between Kindergarten
and the first grade. She says that before the accident... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

years of his life, putting Sharon into a sandwich generation (Whitborne Whitborne, 2014) where
she is still helping out her kids and now helping our her parents. Her mother in law also ended up

Ronald Reagan s Challenger Address Rhetorical Devices
Analysis of Reagan s Challenger Disaster Address
Introduction: Imagine watching a space shuttle take off and being really excited and then BAM
EXPLOSION. On live TV, millions of viewers saw the explosion take place and the death of
seven astronauts. The world was in mourning and President Ronald Reagan was the only one
who could give the nation comfort. During our time in this course, we have learned a lot about
how to structure a speech to maximize its effects. As a class, we can learn a lot about how to
give a great speech from Reagan s Challenger address. President Reagan analyzed the needs of his
audience and used strong speech techniques and stylistic devices to provide comfort to a grieving
nation and give hope for a better future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the context of this speech, Ronald Reagan is important because he was the president of the
United States during the Challenger disaster, and it affected a lot of Americans.
b. Description of the Situation
i. President Reagan gave his speech at the White House in the Oval Office at 5 pm on January
28, 1986 after the Challenger explosion had occurred earlier. That day his address was live on
TV and nationwide radio. On this day, Reagan was supposed to give the State of the Union
Address, but chose to address the disaster instead (Moyer). By giving this speech instead, he
showed he valued the lives of the astronauts above his own presidency. ii. This speech was
preceded by the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. Seven astronauts, including the first
schoolteacher in space, Christa McAuliffe, perished in the explosion, and all of America was in
mourning after watching it live on television (Moyer). Since Reagan was expected to give a
State of the Union Address and Americans would be watching, he choose to address the disaster
at this time. The speech was delivered from the Oval Office because it was a professional speech
coming from the president. Being in the Oval Office gave Reagan credibility, and broadcasting it

The Legal Relationship Between Company And Its Members Essay
Corporation origin from the Latin word Corpus which means body. It is formed by a group of
people and has separate rights and liability from those individual. In any means, corporation exists
independently from its owner and this principle is called the doctrine of separate personality.
Doctrine of separate personality is the basic and fundamental principle in a Company Law. This
principle outline the legal relationship between company and its members. Company s assets
belong to the company not the shareholders as assets are the equity for creditors. Company must
use up all its assets to pay off the creditors if it became insolvent. The same applies to the
corporations debts. For limited liabilities company, the shareholder liability is limited which
means that the shareholder is restricted to the number of shares they paid and not personally
liable for the corporation s debts. If the company does not have enough equity to pay off debts,
the creditors cannot come after the shareholders. However, limited liability company can be very
powerful when in hands who do fraud and on defeating creditors claims. Courts then can ignore
the doctrine for exception cases and lifting the corporate veil. Lifting the corporate veil is a
situation where courts put aside limited liability and hold a corporation s shareholders or directors
personally liable for the corporation s debts.
The leading case for this doctrine is between Salomon v A Salomon Co in 1897. Salomon was a sole

Disadvantages Of Multicultural Public Policy
1. In the last few years there have been many democracies, which have begun to implement
multicultural public policies in their states. As multicultural policies have increased worldwide,
there have been many debates regarding the concept of justice within society. In order to understand
this debate of what justice is, this essay will analyze different aspects of multicultural public policy,
such as recognition and the welfare state in a multicultural society.
According to Taylor, the link between identity and recognition is a result of the recognition or
misrecognition of a group by other members of society (Cite). Each group in society has their own
unique identity based on their culture, which requires recognition from the rest of the society ...

One problem that exists within the multicultural society is the way education is taught in schools.
One of the major problems that exist within the educational system in a multicultural society is that
it acts as a power structure within society (cite). Many times, even in a multicultural society, the
education is taught through the perspective of the stronger group , and therefore the minorities are
not fully represented. This type of education creates a model of one sided co existence , thus
creating many cultural gaps between groups in society and as a result decreases the potentiality of
multiculturalism. Bank believes that the current mainstream citizenship type of education prevents
the citizens (mostly schoolchildren) to learn about their complex and multilevel identities. He
continues and says that it does not include the four main elements of citizenship (civil, political,
social and cultural) and as a result does not teach the youth what it means to be a participating
citizen. Bank also believes that is crucial for us in a multicultural society to use the transformative
citizenship education system, which enables all the citizens and youth to understand their complex
identities. This way of teaching will also validate and recognize the culture of the students, and it
will open the passageway for civil

Similarities Between Alice Through The Looking Glass And...
The movie Alice through the Looking Glass and the book The City of Ember are very similar.
They are similar in conflict, and the main characters. But they are also different in theme. Alice
through the looking glass is about a girl who tryings to go back in time to save her friend, The
Mad Hatter. Lina is a girl who is stuck in a city underground and tries to get out using a
passageway. These two may sound different but they are actually the same. The theme of Alice
through the Looking Glass would be that you can t change the past but you can learn from it.
Alice learned that when she tried to stop the Red Queen in the past. This led the Red Queen from
turning evil. The theme of The City of Ember would be to never give up on your dreams, because
Lina thought there was a way to get out of the city when no one believed her. But, there was a way

Marketing to Children
Kaitlin Schultz

Response Paper
Marketing Children
Child obesity is a growing problem in today s society. On average 28% of girls age 6 11 are
overweight. Pediatricians are now seeing more and more children with high levels of cholesterol,
high blood pressure, and adult on set diabetes. In 1997 American children obtained 50% of their
calories from added fat and sugar and only 1% of children s diets resembled the recommended
proportions of the Food Pyramid.
The amount of money that is spent marketing to children is outrageous. Companies purposefully
market to the young children s tastes in a variety of ways through package design, typefaces,
pictures, and content. Key elements for successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marketers understand that no child is too young to be targeted by television; many of these
programs are linked directly to commercial products. For example, Burger King then McDonald s
sponsored the public television show Teletubbies (show for toddlers). McDonald s distributed toys
of the four characters in their happy meals. It is estimated that advertising for children has now
reached over $1 billion. The most common advertised foods seen are not surprisingly low in
nutritional value; products such as, presweetened breakfast cereals, candy, fast food, sodas,
cookies, and chips. Its safes to say the money isn t being spent on advertising of fruits, vegetables,
bread, or fish.
Another largely upsetting report found that food commercials stimulate antisocial behavior in
children. Commercials aimed to children are overly dependent on socially negative material,
violence, conflict, and/or trickery. Food companies purposefully entice children by placing logos
on toys, games, clothing, and school supplies. They even go as far as to sponsor clubs, produce
magazines, buy time in movies, obtain celebrity endorsers, and add their logo to baby bottles. For
example, McDonald s offers cups, toys, placemats, movie coupons, special toys, and logo labeled
items for all occasions. Some companies now sell counting books to young children that require the
purchase and use of the brand name. Regrettably, they teach children to count

My Personal Experience Of A Christmas Eve Day
On Sunday December 24, it s Christmas Eve. So we did our daily routine and we got ready for
Christmas Eve party. The party started around 6:00. We had apple cider, chips, Indian snacks
/food, and other good stuff. After the party, we played a game. We played playing cards. We
played Uno. It was really fun.
On Monday December 25, it Christmas. I know a lot of people open their presents in the
morning, but that s not what we do. We do our daily routine and get ready. After we all get ready,
then my sister and I opened presents and celebrated. I got clothes, sock slippers, jewelry, comb,
and makeup. My sister and I are so thankful of what we got. After we opened the presents, we
played a game. We played Carrom. Carrom is a board gamewhere there are 9 black coins, 9 white
coins, 1 red coin, and a striker. You re trying to shoot the coins into the goal with a striker. So if I
was white coins, I have to shoot all 8 white coins into the goal. Then there is 1 white coin and 1
red coin. So I have to shoot the red coin into the goal an if I make it, I have to shoot my white
coin. If I make that, the game is over and I would win. If I made all 8 white coins and have to
shoot the red into the goal and if I don t make the red coin into the goal, than I have to put that

Nature Conservation And Its Impacts On Local Communities
HOW NEOLIBERALISATION FLOURISHES IN NATURE CONSERVATION AND ITS
IMPACTS ON LOCAL COMMUNITIES.
Neoliberalism has had its footprints marked in the sands of history. It has had it limits and it has
had its advantages but all those depends on who is the subject we look at. Neoliberalism can be
defined in a lot of different ways by scholars but the general definition of neoliberalism is the
political term used for the theory whereby the economy is open to investors, and the free market
is given priority. Neoliberalism has its key players as the state, the market and the civil society.
These three key actors in neoliberalism can define the term in different ways as the effects and
impacts of neoliberalism play differently for each party.
In Tanzania, the neoliberalization of the economy started in the mid 1980s with the privatization of
parastatal organizations, the deregulation and the opening up of trade and banking, foreign
exchange deregulation, and tax reform (Benjaminsen et al., 2013). The neoliberal processes have a
long term history of heavily impacting negatively on citizens and the environment. The economy of
Tanzania is mostly from wildlife tourism and game hunting. The neoliberal acts in these context
comes to play when the land sustaining the wildlife is situated among villages where citizens live.
Impacts of the conservation of the land arises for these villagers and the environment. In this essay
we will discuss how the neoliberal practices in Tanzania over

Quality Management System For Coventry University Library
The `Know IT` (Knowledge intergration ) quality management system for coventry university
library
Introduction
Higher education intuitions have always resisted total quality management, quality management
systems were perceived as incompatible with the academic culture. However, universities have
become market driven, so in order to compete on a global scale and attract international students,
they had to establish quality management systems to set themselves apart from the competition.
It has become explicit that students were choosing universities based on quality; this has a very
subjective definition as quality means different things to people.
One crucial department universities should focus their efforts in implementing a quality ... Show

Furthermore process improvement methodologies will be explored so the library can become an
organisation that strives for excellence.
Improvements and modifications to the previous quality management system proposed
Before we can design quality management system we must firstly assess the libraries standard of
quality, the previous quality management system that was designed for the library was extremely
vague and generic both in design and principles.
The Lanchester Library at Coventry University opened in September 2000; the aim of the library
was to accommodate changing customer needs. Their mission for the library was, to stay student
focused by offering quality information and services to support, teaching, learning and research.
These goals and aspirations were met for a while, however, is obvious the library is in a desperate
need for an effective quality management system as it seems to buckling under the pressures
exerted by the increased number of students. More than ever it needs to realign the system with
student requirements and ensure that it s actually delivering the services required by the users. The
most essential qualities to the users of the library are: the availability of resources, such as
collaborative work spaces, books, computers, helpful staff ect.

The Importance Of Collecting Student Loans
When it comes to debt, the most relentless creditor to have is the federal government. Student
loans that are not paid in a timely manner will be forwarded to a collection department or agency.
The government utilizes private collection agencies to collect these back loans on their behalf, and
they forward delinquent loans to these services very quickly. The problem in now dealing with a
collection agency is that your credit score will suffer if your student loanstays in delinquent status.
The best option is to be proactive and call the agency to work out a payment plan to get back on
track.
The government agency responsible for issuing student loans, the U.S. Department of Education,

was committing all the crimes and wanted to get back at the government. Everyone just saw him
as an unknown murder that is there to destroy their community. Throughout the movie were
flashbacks of V in Larkhill. Larkhill was based off of Hitler s concentration camps and the Nazi
atrocities. V says that he lost his memory while at Larkhill, so during the timeframe of the movies

The Outcast
The Outcast The character archetype of the outcast is described as a figure that is banished from
a community for some crime (real or imagined). The outcast is usually destined to become a
wanderer . Society often times shuns people deemed different, making them feel like an outcast.
This can be positive or negative, depending how the individual reacts to it. Being viewed as an
outcast could inspire a person to resist popular opinion and encourage them to do great things in
their life. While for others, it could cause them to retreat within themselves, preventing them from
living a happy life or even causing their death. The archetype of the outcast in represented in the

participate because of some perceived crime on society. We can only guess what the crime
might be, but this song tells us the impact it has had on this man s life. It makes him sad and the
lyric hide my head I want to drown my sorrow, no tomorrow, no tomorrow shows how desperate
the narrator feels. He sees life as not worth living anymore and is looking for an escape. The

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Employee Relations
Employment relation is one of the vital and critical parts of HRM. For making an effective and
healthy relationship between employers and employees, it is important to understand the perception
of employment relations along with its importance in an organisation (Wang Chen, 2005). Thus, if
an organisation fails to understand its significance of employment relations and unable to manager
employer and employee relationship efficiently, this might lead to impact on the organisation power
and will deter its strength and profitability. According to Singh (2011), employee relations is
basically a study of regulations, agreements and rules through which employees are accomplished

Why Do People Lived During The Middle Ages
Castles The Middle Ages was a period in European history from 476 A.D. which was the fall of
Rome to the fall of Constantinople in 1453 A.D. During the Middle Ages there were lots of things
that influenced how we live today. Castles were an important part of the Middle Ages. This is
because of their design, the life that people lived in them, and because of their history and
evolution. One reason why castles were important during the Middle Agesis because of their
design. Castles were supposed to be designed as a base for military defense. Some of the hand
were far from perfect. They consisted of a motte which was a mound of earth surrounded by a
ditch and had a bailey which is where other buildings would be placed. Later in history stone
castles started to emerge with lots of innovations from the previous designs of castles. One of
the reasons why stone castles became popular was because wood was too flammable. Stone
castles were designed with two curtain walls an outer one and an inner one. Stone castles also
consisted of a moat and a barbican which usually had a draw bridge in order to cross the moat.
They also had parapets and a keep which could be used as a prison, final defensive structure and

Castle life was tough and was strictly governed by the medieval feudal system. Castle life often
revolved around the requirements of the lord or king. Castles were also busy and noisy and even

was hygiene. Nobles lived inside the castle while farmers lived outside. This meant that farmers
were constantly entering and leaving the castle spreading germs and disease. Another reason why
hygiene was a problem was because nobles rarely bathed. If someone in the castle got sick they

Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that
human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on

working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every
individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further
applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul.
In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation.
For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the
auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds
with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. The virtues are
wisdom for the ruling, courage for the warriors and moderation for the working class. In addition,

The Importance Of Ancient Traditions On Modern Culture
This class was extremely interesting. Being an older student, I have had the opportunity to live all
over the United States from the west coast to the east coast and many places in between, including
a year each in Germany and Hawaii. I have been exposed to many different cultures, religions,
peoples, lifestyles, and beliefs. But, this sociologyclass has exposed me to new ideas which is what
learning is supposed to accomplish. Three things that stood out for me is how ancient traditions are
still part of modern cultures, how some traditions within a culturemay be viewed as abusive by
other people, and how defining something as deviant is not always the same as time goes by.
With the many cultures that are found throughout the world, many spanning thousands of years, it
is not unusual to find that old traditions still influence modern culture. One example of this is the
practice of Chado or the way of tea which is the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony that is still
performed to this day in a ceremony that can last for hours (Ancient Rituals of Japan). The Japanese
society also still celebrates many other ancient rituals and festivals, such as the Hanami Matsuri,
where families gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the beauty as the blossoms fall. Finally, the
ancient culture within the country of India, which was the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism
many centuries ago, still has about 84 percent of the population that are Hindu (Zimmerman). These

NFL Leadership Case Study
The league had a culture that looked the other way when it came to players improprieties. There
was history of giving personal conduct violators a mere slap on wrist. According to the San
Diego Union Tribune, of the 32 teams that make up the NFL, 21 employed players who had
domestic or sexual violence charges last year. Since 200, more than 700 NFL players found
themselves arrested. The NFL s responses were either a brief suspension or no suspension at all.
Those players who the NFL released from contracts were benchwarmers who most likely had no
impact on the team winning. The ostrich manager syndrome was present. The league did not accept
blame but rather made domestic violencea societal issue, and therefore, not their problem.... Show

Beau Buckley (2001) argue that when there is a lack of accountability in an organization s
leadership, there is an antecedent of unethical behavior within the organization (as cited in
Hoogervorst De Cremer, 2010). The Ivey Business Journal states Without Accountability leaders
don t commit to, or own, the decisions they make, and cannot get others to do so. They blame
others for poor outcomes and in doing so create a culture of fear and disengagement. People stop
caring, with potentially disastrous consequences (Crossan Seijts, 2012). Initially the league
offered no solutions that caused a loss of credibility. Following the arrest of Ray Rice, the
Baltimore Ravens team owner stated I ve been on record of saying my definition of character is
repeating offenses. If we re all one strike and you re out, then we re all in trouble. It s how you
respond to adversity. (Mink, 2014) . It was not until a video emerged that the NFL decided to
mandate discipline, albeit weak discipline. The league suspended Rice for two games. After public
outcry, the league went in the opposite direction. This showed inconsistency in leadership, which
can cause inconsistencies in team members. If leaders are consistent in what they pay attention to,
measure, and control, employees receive clear signals about what is important in the organization.
If, however, leaders are

My Dream Of A Baseball Dream
On Returning: A baseball dream
I am on my way to the New England Baseball Complex in Manchester. It is early August, and the
end of the regular season. It has been an unusually lengthy season and I am ready for it to be
finally over. I have traveled all over New England and have visited many different states. Baseball
is my first sport, the sport I focus on the most throughout the year. Baseball has always been my
favorite sport ever since I was little. My dad taught me to play when I was around 6 and I have
played extensively every year since. I looked up to my brother a lot growing up and I remember
playing with him when I got home from school. My family was always there for me and always
was around to help me do what I wanted to do. It has been my goal to play in college and get a
scholarship. This summer I took my first step toward reaching that goal by competing in many
tournaments where I can get exposure to the colleges.
This tournament had many college coaches from across New England. There are a lot of good
teams and players and it was important to stand out to the coaches. The last 2 games we had were
a double header and I had to catch both games in 100 degree weather. I did it because it was
something I could do to show toughness and standout. We lost the first gameand won the second
game. We made the playoffsand are seeded in 4th. It is the playoff game of the tournament. We
played really good so far going 3 1 0 on the weekend. I was doing alright throughout

Born To Run Analysis
In hopes of getting more likes, our society craves to post on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram
about how our life is on the road to success and happiness. Yes, that could be one of you.
Acceptance and love have been hard to come by nowadays. Bluntly put, our advanced society is a
complete paradox to what it aims to do keeping our mind, body, and spirit healthy. It seems that our
advancement in the systems of technology, health, justice, and everything in between has been
causing more harm than good. According to the non fiction text, Born to Run, McDougall
describes how the Tarahumaras seem to grasp the essence of our advanced societal problems with
such simplicity. We believe our knowledge is what perpetuates us forward, yet that knowledge...

This is best seen in McDougall s injury, such as being administered a cortisone shot to fix a
patient s foot with plantar fasciitis, and the high caliber doctors telling him to stop running to
prevent knee degeneration because he s just not cut out for it. Unfortunately, our knowledge based
system has it wrong. A lot of what our advanced society is teaching us is a contorted reality
contrived on the basis of our pride in science, our pride in medicine, and our pride in everything we
do. We follow the goddess of knowledge and believe those of credibility to be the only solution
to our health problems. When you step back and look at the big picture, we are nowhere near the
achievements of the Tarahumara. Although primal, the Tarahumara do not face the wrath that of
an advanced society incurs. Tarahumaras do not experience vast array of problems we do, such
as obesity, plantar fasciitis, knee pains, crime, theft, greed, drug addiction, child abuse, diabetes,
depression, corruption, domestic violence, and war (McDougall 14). We do! We certainly do
because we build our society on knowledge. Advancement in society is mostly manufactured on
this tree of knowledge we call life, and it drives us crazy. Knowledge deceives us from attaining
true freedom in mind, body, and spirit. Now the Tarahumaras, wow, do these guys have it

Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function,
Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling
The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the
harm and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy,
a specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter
within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present
day. It dates back all the way to Ancient Greece when comedywas purely satirical. At the time,
humor was found in doing parodies of politics and social organizations. Since then, the style has
gone through tremendous transformations and in its modern age, is far different than the comedy
from all those years ago. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the
perfect example of a true ancient comedy. Even as years go by, several critics maintain that the
comedic element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day.
In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy,
seeks to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three
ideas quite clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it
plays a huge role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even
suggesting that laughter needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling
statement: You would hardly appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others.
Laughter appears to stand in need of an echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6).
Throughout the book, Bergson brings up his own theory of laughter, seeing it as almost a part of
evolution. Laughter

Thesis Of The Alchemist
Some may refer to The Alchemist as a best selling novel written by Paulo Coelho which explains
the ideas of having a dream, or Personal Legend, and going through obstacles to conquer it. The
book starts off like any other, introducing and describing the main characters, in this case
Santiago is the first to share the interest of peers reading the story. He is said to be a small town
shepherd boy who will do anything for his flock of sheep. In the opening scene of the story,
Santiago takes his flock to an abandoned church and lies down under a sycamore tree hoping to
get some rest. He is soon woken up from a disturbing dreamwhich foreshadows further into the
story of his own Personal Legend. Later in the book, Santiago is faced with multiple tests to be
successful in finding his treasure. Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find
your treasure (Coelho 15). Paulo continues to add characters in the book that help Santiago
throughout his journey. To begin his long journey, Santiago meets a wise old king name King
Melchizedek. He is in a local market when the king walks up and asks Santiago what he is
reading. The king continues to say that the book he is reading is important but irritating because
it describes the characters inability to choose their own Personal Legend. When Santiago asks
where this mysterious stranger is from, King Melchizedek replies with I am from many places,
but I was born in Salem as I am the king there (Coelho 64). Accepting his statement as true,
Santiago continues the conversation allowing them to eventually talk about his dream of the
Pyramids. The king wants to help Santiago, but for a price of six sheep. Before leaving with
Santiago s sheep he shares, The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and
never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon (Coelho 32). His message to Santiago reminds him
that by following his dream he will witness beautiful sights and people, but that he should always
remember the purpose of his travels. Leaving it at that, the king pointed Santiago in the direction to
follow his dream. Not before long, Santiago meets a crystal merchant. Trying to run away from his
Personal Legend once again, he gets a job at the

Leadership Theory Of Leadership Theories Essay
In today s 21st century world of business, good management is essential in organisations and that
managers have to be leaders as well (Samson Daft 2014). The statement that true leaders are born
with important traits such as intelligence, honesty, self confidence...and appearance is unfitting but
rather successful development of leadershipis achieved through the transformational leadership
theory. This essay will describe the trait transformational based leadership theories, on its effective
purpose and compare and contrast it through reasoning backed up by academic sourcing.
According to the trait based theory of leadership, certain integrated patterns of personal
characteristics develop the ability to lead a group of people effectively. (Zaccaro 2007). Here the
word trait is defined as The distinguishing personal characteristics of a leader, such as
intelligence, honesty, self confidence and even appearance (pg 612, Samson Daft 2014). Trait
based leadership is based on the idea that people born with certain qualities and characteristics are
more suitable for leadership. It was achieved by identifying the traits of many leaders, both
successful and unsuccessful, and looking into their physical, emotional, and cognitive traits that
made them who they were. (Derue, D. S., Nahrgang, J. D., Wellman, N., Humphrey, S. E. 2011).
By studying the likes of leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi and even controversial
leaders like Hitler, researchers interpreted

Gender Bias Within The Workplace
Gender bias is a concept that is seen every day, where society has taken upon itself to place male
and females in certain stereotypical categories. For instance, gender bias in the workforce is one
of the most common areas where women and men are treated differently. Women are supposed to
work in fields such as nursing, office work, and so on; while men work in the fields of
construction, engineering, athletics, etc.. In addition, there is a clear difference in the pay amount
and promotions that men and women receive. What s the situation and where does it need
changing? What laws have been passed?
Before anything, some may ask, what gender bias is well, gender bias can be defined as the
discrimination of one gender, giving the other gender more favoritism. Gender bias can also refer to
the unequal treatment of certain individuals, whether female or male. This treatment can be clearly
seen in the workplace standpoint.
Gender bias in the workforce has been present for centuries. It is a persistent problem that,
despite the progress that has already has been made, there is still much to be done before it can
disappear. A Gender stereotypic viewpoint in the workforce has been passed down from
generations to generations, and these sorts of ideas are hard to get rid of.
For years men and women have followed a certain stereotype, with the woman being a simple
housewife, staying with the children and sharing an unbreakable maternal bond with them. As

Craigslist Joe Analysis
Craigslist Joe is a documentary about a man named Joe that puts society to the test in a social
experiment. The main question in this documentary was if Joe had nothing, how would he get by?
He is mainly relying on people who are willing to take a chance. Society is constantly changing and
sometimes it takes a filmlike this to really show the world it is time to change. This film
demonstrates at least two different social change theories that help explain the aspects and attitudes
of the different groups. CraigslistJoe is a documentary released in 2012, it s about a man named
Joe who leaves home for 31 days with only his laptop, cell phone, toothbrush and the clothes on
his back. He has no money and no contacts on his phone, he will be relying entirely on the items
obtained from Craigslist. Craigslist is an American classified advertisements website with sections
devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, items wanted, services, community, and discussion
forums (Craigslist, 2017). There were only one and a half nights had to sleep on the street. Joe
was going out in the world to test the world s sense of community and the goodness of society.
What he was doing was depending so much on the fact that he wanted to see and prove that at a
tough time, society can still be generous. He relied on society for transportation, food, shelter, and
friendship mainly.
Society was really under the microscope in this documentary and is put to the test. There were
many different types of people seen in this documentary, a lot of them are free spirited and
wanting to start new beginnings. Even if they had their own struggles going on in their life they
were willing to help no matter what. Dylan is the man who drove Joe to Chicago, he was just
looking for a new start somewhere. There were also people like Fran who were just trying to get
by in a crazy world, she has been called crazy so many times in her life she decided it s just time
to accept it. There are many people who are kind hearted, such as the man who ran the
organization that helped refugee children, Gina in the soup kitchen and Brittany, who runs Kids of
Promise and accepted all the clothes on behalf of the band of elves that Joe got together. He also

Paying Attention to Rural Education Essay
For many communities, particularly rural communities, schools serve as a source of identity.
Because of this, the problems that plague rural schools become enough of a problem that they
threaten the identity of the community; unfortunately, many lawmakers and policymakers in seats
of power do not have an intuitive understanding of how ruralschools work. Policies that work for
urban schools, or even suburban schools, can not be assumed to fit the role of a rural school. It is
suggested in this article that more attention needs to be paid to rural schools that fly under the radar
or have misdiagnosed problems. Even though a greater number of people are moving to rural areas

A note on the last point: this is not a negative thing in and of itself, it is only a problem if the
school does not have the resources or know how to handle a growing diverse population. It helps
nobody if a diverse school is teaching to only the majority population. On a broad basis, the
discussion in this article of problems being handled in a general way speaks volumes about our
own pluralistic educational needs. We learn in class that it is important to not judge students based
on their backgrounds, and that it is important to approach all cultures as unique. Using a broad
stroke to try and cover diversity does not work. In a similar way, trying to solve the problems of
rural schools using a broad stroke (using methods that normally apply to similar problems in an
urban setting, for instance) will not work. As educators, it is important for us to consider the unique
problems of the rural setting and to consider how these issues affect our students. The interactions
between teachers and students determine the quality of education. Teachers send messages that tell
students that they have potential and that they can learn. Teachers who know their subject matter,
believe that all students can learn, and care about students as individuals can have a great impact on
students and their learning, (379 Gollnick and Chinn). In absence of funding and resources,
teachers can still take great strides in providing students

Internal Financial Statements For Business Performance And...
Introduction
The details of even the smallest business or commercial enterprise can be extremely complicated.
Global enterprises are significantly more complex. Internal financial statements provide business
leaders a method to evaluate business performance and support the decision making process. The
income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows are important financial statements
used by a firm s managers, owners, and lenders. Ratio Analysis provides a method to analyze these
statements.
Income Statement The income statement is an important tool for tracking cash flow in and out of

359). This snapshot provides a clear understanding of where the company stands financially.
Similar to the income statement, the balance sheet can be compared to previous balance sheets to
understand key financial trends of the organization. The balance sheet, by definition, is associated
with balancing assets, liabilities, and owner equity. Company assets should equal liabilities plus
owner equity (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 359). This relationship, a balanced equation between
assets, liabilities, and equity, provides the balance sheet its name. Some of the major assets
claimed by a corporation include cash, accounts receivable, inventory, and fixed assets (Melicher
Norton, 2014, pp. 359 360) while major liabilities include accounts payable and various types of
debt (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 360 361). Equity can include preferred stock, common stock, or
retained earnings (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 361). Like the income statement, the balance sheet
provides consistency on how financial information is organized and categorized. It provides a
consistent method to view the information of a corporation over time and also allows for the
comparison of financial information between companies.
Statement of Cash Flows The statement of cash flows looks at inbound and outbound cash from a
different perspective than the income

A Brazilian Concert Review
I attended a Brazilian concert named Choro das 3 on April 11,2016 at Evergreen Presbyterian
Church. I was expecting this musical to sound very festive, fun and relaxing. The instrumental
group consisted of three sisters and their father. Elisa played the Brazilian mandolin, banjo, and the
clarinet. She also writes and performs on the piano. Lia holds the harmony while she played the
seven string guitar. Their father, Eduardo, gave us the rhythm with the frame drum. Corina doubled

mentioned in this performance due to their accents. What I liked about this performance was that it
was family oriented and they seemed very close and support each other in every move they make.
However, I did not find anything I did not like about this performance each selection was very
beautiful. They took there time to make sure every instrument was tuned right. The musical element
that I would change is the tone. They all sound alike to me but had different endings and I would

Rafel awoke after several rounds of lovemaking. He d lost track of time somewhere between the
post coitus bliss and falling asleep. He tried lifting a sleeping Addi from him, but she remained
stuck to him like glue. When he saw the honied smile curling her lip, he knew she was feigning
slumber.
He looked up at the wall with a smile to his surprise; it was getting late. It s six pm!
So?
I have to catch up with someone.
Are you cheating on me already?
No, he laughed. Work related.
How about you come work for me as my personal guard? she offered.
Hmm...tempting, but am only a gardener.
You re a strong man, she said planting gentle, little pecks on the lithely muscled frame of his chest.
I really have to go, and he did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eustace helped his father realize that dream when he moved to Montana.
He remembered the clean environment, trickling streams, proud trees, pristine forests, ferns and
heaps of logs like leaping back in time a period he preferred to live in and made it a lifelong goal
to continue living in. He also remembered taking a ride on a horse drawn carriage with the
pioneer of Turtle Island Preserve himself. When the preserve in North Carolina was closed, there
were rumors of another preserve built by the pioneer and his family farther north. Eustace figured
this was it: Turtle Island Preserve II. It wasn t a rumor after all...
What happened here? Caroline asked.
For us to find out I guess.
They walked back to the main building and then up the front steps. When they pushed the door,
it creaked ajar to the living room that was completely furnished with log tables, chairs, and
shelves. Though dusty from being unkempt, it was impressive. On one end of the room was a
fireplace. To their surprise, it was fired by electric rather than logs which it appeared to give the
facade of. He d seen versions of it in the city, but this was unlike anything he d ever seen. It was
ingenious.
The design and raw architecture of the home reflected the intellect of the builder.
Come see! Keira said when she peered out a window. The others came and there two horses grazing
behind the house.
Are you sure there s no one here?

Chattel Slavery Essay
The Origins of Chattel Slavery in Colonial North America
There have been many illuminating studies in the field of the origins of chattel slavery in Colonial
North America. Alpert, 1970; Edmondson, 1976; Jordan, 1962: Ruchames, 1967; Starr, 1973, wrote
seminal studies that did much to bring insight to the subject. Goetz, 2009; Mason, 2006; Smaje,
2002; Neeganagwedgin, 2012, presented evidence that have either reexamined old questions or
used new methods and approaches to ask news questions to add insight to this topic. However, little
has been written about indeginous slavery and its pycho social impacts that still influence North
American people today, or the political considerations that led to black society becoming chattel ...

However, I disagree with Jordan that it was an unthinking decision, it seems naГЇve to discount
connections between legal statutes and a socially desired goal. Parent s assertion that laws were
placed strategically to subjugate and eventually perpetually enslave seems reasonable. Thus
obligatorily prejudice and feelings of superiority had to exist prior to the active pursuit of
subjugation. It seems immaterial whether institutionalized slavery began immediately or later,
because the action of acquiring a person for sale or servitude requires an establishment of
superiority and inferiority. This dynamic had to exist from slavery s beginning.
The economic argument, that it was vital for the establishment and maintenance of the nation,
contributed, but if the essential element of moral justification did not exist, it is doubtful that it
could have resulted in perpetual, inherited slavery. Legal implementation of slavery was simply a
tool to control slavery s development, and subjugate indigenous people and black slaves. Smaje s
assertion that Political associations also had impact has merit. The evidence for this is that it would
have been more effective, efficient and economically beneficial to enslave either Indians or
indentured servants or both, but they did neither. Why? Because these people had agency either
through associations in Britain or the means to resist or

The Role Of Physical Disabilities In Vulnerable Populations
Vulnerable populations such as individuals with physical disabilities require more specific
nursing care, whether it is in a hospital setting or out in the community. According to the Physical
Disability Council of North West Sydney (2009), physical disability pertains to total or partial
loss of a person s bodily functions (ex. walking, gross motor skills, bladder control etc.) and total
or partial loss of a part of the body (ex. an amputation) . John Hopkins University states, physical
disabilities result from congenital conditions, accidents or progressive neuromuscular diseases (
Physical Disabilities ). Physical disabilities have varying degrees of severity; the same disabilitycan
affect individuals in different ways. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) (2015), in the United States there are 35.2 million or 15% of adults with a physical
functioning difficulty . Having a physical disability is not a lifelong debilitating sentence for all;
many people with physical disabilities have jobs, families and lead a fulfilling life ( What is
Physical Disability? ).
Physical disabilities can be broken down into two categories, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular
disabilities. According to the Handicaps Welfare Association (2012), musculoskeletal disability is
defined as, the inability to carry out distinctive activities associated with movements of the body
parts due to muscular or bony deformities, diseases, or degeneration and includes:

The Ebola Virus
The Ebola Virus
A virus is an ultramicroscopic infectious organism that, having no independent metabolic activity,
can replicate only within a cell of another host organism. A virus consists of a core of nucleic
acid, either RNA or DNA, surrounded by a coating of antigenic protein and sometimes a lipid
layer surrounds it as well. The virus provides the genetic code for replication, and the host cell
provides the necessary energy and raw materials. There are more than 200 viruses that are know to
cause disease in humans. The Ebola virus, which dates back to 1976, has four strains each from a
different geographic area, but all give their victims the same painful, often lethal symptoms. The

Close contact and dirty needles spread the Ebola virus. The center of the epidemic in Zaire
involved a missionary hospital where they reused needles and syringes without sterilization. Most
of the staff of the hospital got sick and died. This outbreak infected 318 with a death rate of 93% (Le
Guenno et al. 1271). Another fatal case was reported one year later in Zaire but nothing major
ever became of it. The most recent case recorded was the infamous breakout in Kikwit, Zaire. This
breakout had the world in an uproar about the possibility of this virus spreading out globally. This
outbreak appeared to have started with a patient who had surgery in Kikwit on April 10,
1995. Members of the surgical team then developed symptoms similar to those of a viral
hemorrhagic fever disease (Ebola Info. from the CDC 2). From there, the disease spread to more
than 300 others. The most frequent symptoms at the onset were fever (94%), diarrhea (80%), and
server weakness (74%); other symptoms included dysphagia (41%) and hiccups (15%). Clinical
signs of bleeding occurred in 38% of cases (JAMA 274: 373). The World Heath Organization
declared on
August 24, 1995 that the outbreak of Ebola Zaire in Kikwit was officially over after killing 244 of
its 315 known victims ( Ebola Outbreak Officially Over 1).
This outbreak had a rate of death over 75%. Ebola Sudan also occurred in 1976 about the same
time as Ebola Zaire.
The number of cases was 284 with a death rate of 53% (Le

Similarities Between Anthem And Fahrenheit 451
Can you fathom a world where everything is peaceful and predetermined? The novella Anthem by
Ayn Rand and the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury depict futures where everything is
predetermined and violence, betrayal, and deception are virtually non existent. In Anthem this
dystopia puts humanity into a dark age, which halts evolution and progression. This digression of
humanity is the result of Collectivist ideals as proposed throughout the novella, one instance is
where Rand writes, There is nothing to take a man s freedom away from him, save other men. To
be free, a man must be free of his brothers. That is freedom. That and nothing else. (Rand, 70)
These collectivist ways caused children to be raised in groups and taken to school until their group
is appointed a job in their society, however this causes people to pursue careers that they detest and

Myth Of The Good Guy With A Gun Analysis
Both texts suggest that the increase of gun population leads to a violent result. Although, both
consider the same outcomes, the Blood Drive is more effective in the thought of violence, rather
than helping keep people safe. The Myth of the Good Guy with a Gun is a good source of
information, using logos as its type of persuasion, the evidence/examples are statistics and
numbers that express the idea that guns aren t used for good. The Blood Drive uses pathos, a
persuasion that emphasises the emotion of the audience. In this case, logos is a better expression
for this topic because the question is asking for an increase in population of violence, a number.
Although logos is more appropriate for this topic, The Myth of the Good Guy with a

Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out.
the first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the
consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions
are morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences
of an action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest
happiness over unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianismramifications, act
utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest
factor in deciding what we ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule
Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are
ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each
action individually, and similar situation would have different outcomes depending on the situation.
There is no universal rule unlike rule utilitarianism. In order to determine how different, the act
and rule utilitarianism are, I will analyze it by applying them in the following scenario. Let s
imagine, you are a doctor in an oncology ward in a major city that is strapped for financial and
material resources. One evening, two patients are admitted to the hospital. One patient is suffering

Human Life On Mars And The Red Planet
Mars Exploration
For over 60 years now, humans have been trying anything possible to get information on our
neighboring planet. Known as the Red Planet , Mars is the closest planet to us in our Solar
System that has the chance of having human life on it. Though the chances of life on Mars are
slim to none, many space organizations, including NASA, are still exploring the planet for any
signs of life. Questions that many of the NASA crews ask themselves are : Is there water on Mars?
What is the radiation on Mars like? And will it effect the exploration of Mars? How can we get
humans to Mars safely? These questions are being asked by space agencies all around the world,
however, the question that is getting more attention is : Will there ever ... Show more content on

I still strongly believe that, in my lifetime, there will be no humans living on Mars. To add to my
stance, I have a strong opinion that no humans will even touch down on Mars surface in the 21st
century. Though I have this dominant stance, I still believe NASA and the other space agencies
need to continue to explore our red neighboring planet. Mars may just be the only other planet in
our solar system that has a chance of having human life on it and we may be closer than ever to the
ultimate goal : getting humans to

Anthony Ng Architects Limited
ANTHONY NG ARCHITECTS LIMITED: building towards a paperless future 2011 BSM920
Topics in Advanced Strategy Group D 8/6/2011 1. Introduction Since the 1970s, the architectural
industry in Hong Kong enjoyed a brilliant growth as a result of real estate and stock market
speculation. In 1996, the industry was very profit oriented and time conscious, and heavy
bureaucracy was one of the main characteristics of the market. The role of the government and
others institutions such as the HKIA (Hong Kong Institute of Architects) are essential in the Hong
Kong architectural industry. Anthony Ng is an architect from Hong Kong who started his own
architectural practice in 1991 in Wan Chai. Thanks to his visionary and entrepreneurial... Show

The HKIA is an association which is using rewards and penalties to coerce architects into
compliance with the standards they came up with = gt; COERCIVE REGULATION On the other
side the government is a national institution which encourage compliance as it is taken for granted
as the way things are done (Oliver 1991, Shenkar 2002) = gt; cognitive internalization To respond to
these institutional pressures, Anthony Ng decides to use co option strategies to cope with
government pressures. Learning to deal with the Building department was an important aspect of
the architectural industry, as it would help avoiding important delays and loss of contracts. Another
aspect of the co option strategies use by Anthony Ng was to adopt corporate social responsibility
which is considered as a new institutional logic (Lee, 2008). In addition to standards building and
attractive designs, Anthony Ng decided to work on eco friendly projects, which enabled the firm to
won the highest honour from the HKIA. 3. Chaos The implementation of a paperless system was a
change that would take place in a complex environment. When starting to use this new system
Anthony Ng did not know the real outcome of this change, because there could have been many
different effects that were largely unknown in advance. When the staff started using the paperless
system, the organization could not assure that

Interlations And The Impacts Of Wind And Ocean Interactions
2.1 Wind and ocean interactions
When wind is experienced it mainly impacts the surface waters in the ocean, these waters are
subject to movement. Due to the effects of the Coriolis force air movement is deflected to the left
in the southern hemisphere. A phenomenon known as the Ekman spiral is initiated once water at
the surface begins to move. This surface movement initiates the bottom water layers to move as
well to the left of the force that is driving it. In addition, the Ekman spiral movement begins to
weaken at deeper water depths. The Ekman spiral force is directed downwards where it operates at
right angles to the wind, where in the southern hemisphere it operates to the left. Evidently the
physical atmospheric environment, the wind, interacts with the ocean altering ocean current speed
and the way in which water in its various depths are mixed together (Wanninkhof, 1992).
2.2 Circulation of the thermohaline
In addition to circulation driven by the wind in oceans there is circulation that exists due to
convection. These convection differences exist as a result of alterations in water density which
differs according to temperature and salinity adjustments present at the surface of the ocean.
Downward convection, the movement of heat energy, is administered by the size of what is known
as the thermocline which is commonly referred to as a temperature gradient. This temperature
gradient can be seen in figures 1.1 and 1.2 and it distinguishes warmer surface water from

Essay on Fear in Cellar Stairs
Fear in Cellar Stairs
Poetry is about emotion not only the emotion displayed in the many layers
of a poem s language, but also the emotional layers created in the reader.
Some poetry can be light and happy, other poetry can be ecstatic and ethereal;
and at the opposite extreme, poetry can be dark and downright threatening. Such
a poem is Cellar Stairs by the contemporary poet Thomas Lux.
It s rickety down to the dark, states the first line. The poem starts out with
an image of darkness, compounded by the feeling of instability ( rickety ). The
lack of any physical room or area leaves us feeling disoriented and groundless.

But we are still
afraid.
Lines five through nine describe the normally harmless objects that reside on the shelf.
This time, though, the objects are dangerous. Everything has an edge the shears, the weed
hacker, the ice pick except the poison, which can kill both kinds of vermin, rats and
bugs (6 7). A triple threat, the shelf: we can be poisoned either of two ways or stabbed.
The landing, normally a safe area on any flight of stairs, is also trapped: the keg of
roofing nails that beckons your face to slam into it (8 9). This describes another level
of emotion, as well. We have progressed from being afraid of the dark to being scared for
our life. The specific threats have been identified and we are under attack.
Lines ten through eighteen become globally symbolic of torture, while maintaining the
chilling level of personal threat. The fuse box goes from a damning symbol of sin (the
slot machine gambling is a sin) (11) to a symbol of death (the switch for the electric
chair that the warden pulls ) (12). The author speaks of the boots, singular, on every
stair, alone (14 16). The dead left them there, short legged on their way down to the
Hell at the bottom of the stairs (16 17).

  • 2. The Discovery Of The Indigenous Native Peoples In 1492, when Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, he didn t anticipate the existence of the indigenous native peoples that had inhabited the land for the past 10,000 years or more. Incidently, Columbus didn t even consider that these people were native to the land or that he was on a new founded continent. Colombus first considered them to be Indians from India but quickly he realized his mistake. After gathering information and goods he returned home. In the 1500s Spanish exploration led by conquistadors who led to the discovery of what would become known as the PowhatanIndians after they found and kidnapped a young Algonquian boy. In 1607, the English founded the colony of Jamestown in Virgina, just ten miles from the Powhatan capital of Werowocomoco. The Powhatans were later forced to move their capital up the Chickahominy River to Orapax to create distance between the Powhatans and the English settlers. The history between the Powhatan Indians and the Europeans is a long one that passes through the early sixteenth century to the late eighteenth century and even in the modern day era. Differences between the Europeans and the Powhatans notoriously caused rivalry and conflict among them. The Algonquian speaking Powhatan people were indigenous to the east coast of the North America. At it s largest, the confederacy extended north of Alexandria along the Potomac River, south to the Neuse River in North Carolina, west along Virginia s fall line, and east to the ... • 3. Effects Of Block Scheduling On Academic Achievement Effects of Block Scheduling on Academic Achievement in Secondary Mathematics Since the dawn of time, it has been one of man s goals to constantly improve oneself. Education is one way in which man is able to improve their ability to reason, their potential earnings, and a variety of others. It is this drive to improve oneself that educationis continually under the microscope. The scrutiny of education reached an all time high in 1983 when A Nation at Risk was published (Evans, McCray, Rice Tokarczyk, 2002; Walker, 2000; Zelkowski, 2010). One particular area this study attacked was the utilization of time in education (Walker, 2000). Districts began to discuss block schedulingas a way to improve the instruction students receive. Now with the adoption of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), schools are faced with the ever tough challenge of meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Taking a second look at the current structure of the school schedule may help to alleviate some of the pressure currently placed on education (Walker, 2000). Zelowski (2010) states, In the US it is acceptable to say I am not good at math , I hate math or Don t worry honey [parent referring to child], I was not good at math either, so it is okay for you too. However, you will rarely, if ever, hear someone admit in our society that they cannot read (p. 18). This statement helps to emphasize why it is necessary to gain a better understanding of how the educational field may improve student ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sharon Bryant Interview Paper The person who I choose to interview for this paper is my grandmother Sharon Bryant (nГ©e Kimple), and the main reason I chose to interview her was that I really did not know much about her life story and wanted to learn more. Currently she is 72 years old, and lives in Vancouver, Washington with her husband of 52 years Allan Bryant. She has been retired for the past two years and enjoys spending her free time quilting and sewing, and does not have any major medical issues aside from a few allergies. Sharon was born March 27th 1943 in Glendale, California. For the first couple years of her early childhood her motherwas working while her father was a photographer and a Seabee (construction worker) until the end of World War 2. She first met her father when she was four years old. Her father struggled with PTSD when he got back and Sharon described him as intelligent and nice, but could become very mean and angry, and that she was to be seen but not heard. Sharon is the older of two sisters and spent a lot of time helping raise them as both her parents owned businesses with her mother owning a catering company and her father a paint strainer manufacturing business. • 6. The Legal Relationship Between Company And Its Members Essay Corporation origin from the Latin word Corpus which means body. It is formed by a group of people and has separate rights and liability from those individual. In any means, corporation exists independently from its owner and this principle is called the doctrine of separate personality. Doctrine of separate personality is the basic and fundamental principle in a Company Law. This principle outline the legal relationship between company and its members. Company s assets belong to the company not the shareholders as assets are the equity for creditors. Company must use up all its assets to pay off the creditors if it became insolvent. The same applies to the corporations debts. For limited liabilities company, the shareholder liability is limited which means that the shareholder is restricted to the number of shares they paid and not personally liable for the corporation s debts. If the company does not have enough equity to pay off debts, the creditors cannot come after the shareholders. However, limited liability company can be very powerful when in hands who do fraud and on defeating creditors claims. As multicultural policies have increased worldwide, there have been many debates regarding the concept of justice within society. In order to understand this debate of what justice is, this essay will analyze different aspects of multicultural public policy, such as recognition and the welfare state in a multicultural society. One problem that exists within the multicultural society is the way education is taught in schools. One of the major problems that exist within the educational system in a multicultural society is that it acts as a power structure within society (cite). Many times, even in a multicultural society, the education is taught through the perspective of the stronger group , and therefore the minorities are not fully represented. This type of education creates a model of one sided co existence , thus creating many cultural gaps between groups in society and as a result decreases the potentiality of multiculturalism. Bank believes that the current mainstream citizenship type of education prevents the citizens (mostly schoolchildren) to learn about their complex and multilevel identities. He continues and says that it does not include the four main elements of citizenship (civil, political, social and cultural) and as a result does not teach the youth what it means to be a participating citizen. Bank also believes that is crucial for us in a multicultural society to use the transformative citizenship education system, which enables all the citizens and youth to understand their complex identities. This way of teaching will also validate and recognize the culture of the students, and it will open the passageway for civil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You re trying to shoot the coins into the goal with a striker. So if I was white coins, I have to shoot all 8 white coins into the goal. Then there is 1 white coin and 1 red coin. So I have to shoot the red coin into the goal an if I make it, I have to shoot my white coin. If I make that, the game is over and I would win. If I made all 8 white coins and have to shoot the red into the goal and if I don t make the red coin into the goal, than I have to put that coin in the middle. • 14. Nature Conservation And Its Impacts On Local Communities HOW NEOLIBERALISATION FLOURISHES IN NATURE CONSERVATION AND ITS IMPACTS ON LOCAL COMMUNITIES. Neoliberalism has had its footprints marked in the sands of history. It has had it limits and it has had its advantages but all those depends on who is the subject we look at. Neoliberalism can be defined in a lot of different ways by scholars but the general definition of neoliberalism is the political term used for the theory whereby the economy is open to investors, and the free market is given priority. Neoliberalism has its key players as the state, the market and the civil society. These three key actors in neoliberalism can define the term in different ways as the effects and impacts of neoliberalism play differently for each party. In Tanzania, the neoliberalization of the economy started in the mid 1980s with the privatization of parastatal organizations, the deregulation and the opening up of trade and banking, foreign exchange deregulation, and tax reform (Benjaminsen et al., 2013). The neoliberal processes have a long term history of heavily impacting negatively on citizens and the environment. The economy of Tanzania is mostly from wildlife tourism and game hunting. The neoliberal acts in these context comes to play when the land sustaining the wildlife is situated among villages where citizens live. Impacts of the conservation of the land arises for these villagers and the environment. In this essay we will discuss how the neoliberal practices in Tanzania over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Quality Management System For Coventry University Library The `Know IT` (Knowledge intergration ) quality management system for coventry university library Introduction Higher education intuitions have always resisted total quality management, quality management systems were perceived as incompatible with the academic culture. However, universities have become market driven, so in order to compete on a global scale and attract international students, they had to establish quality management systems to set themselves apart from the competition. The Lanchester Library at Coventry University opened in September 2000; the aim of the library was to accommodate changing customer needs. Their mission for the library was, to stay student focused by offering quality information and services to support, teaching, learning and research. These goals and aspirations were met for a while, however, is obvious the library is in a desperate need for an effective quality management system as it seems to buckling under the pressures exerted by the increased number of students. During the Middle Ages there were lots of things that influenced how we live today. Castles were an important part of the Middle Ages. This is because of their design, the life that people lived in them, and because of their history and evolution. One reason why castles were important during the Middle Agesis because of their design. Castles were supposed to be designed as a base for military defense. Some of the hand were far from perfect. They consisted of a motte which was a mound of earth surrounded by a ditch and had a bailey which is where other buildings would be placed. Later in history stone castles started to emerge with lots of innovations from the previous designs of castles. One of the reasons why stone castles became popular was because wood was too flammable. Stone castles were designed with two curtain walls an outer one and an inner one. Stone castles also consisted of a moat and a barbican which usually had a draw bridge in order to cross the moat. Even the most ridiculous products sold on infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else (I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul. In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation. For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. I have been exposed to many different cultures, religions, peoples, lifestyles, and beliefs. But, this sociologyclass has exposed me to new ideas which is what learning is supposed to accomplish. Three things that stood out for me is how ancient traditions are still part of modern cultures, how some traditions within a culturemay be viewed as abusive by other people, and how defining something as deviant is not always the same as time goes by. With the many cultures that are found throughout the world, many spanning thousands of years, it is not unusual to find that old traditions still influence modern culture. One example of this is the practice of Chado or the way of tea which is the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony that is still performed to this day in a ceremony that can last for hours (Ancient Rituals of Japan). The Japanese society also still celebrates many other ancient rituals and festivals, such as the Hanami Matsuri, where families gather under the cherry trees and enjoy the beauty as the blossoms fall. They blame others for poor outcomes and in doing so create a culture of fear and disengagement. People stop caring, with potentially disastrous consequences (Crossan Seijts, 2012). He is said to be a small town shepherd boy who will do anything for his flock of sheep. Paulo continues to add characters in the book that help Santiago throughout his journey. To begin his long journey, Santiago meets a wise old king name King Melchizedek. He is in a local market when the king walks up and asks Santiago what he is reading. The king continues to say that the book he is reading is important but irritating because it describes the characters inability to choose their own Personal Legend. Craigslist is an American classified advertisements website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, items wanted, services, community, and discussion forums (Craigslist, 2017). There were only one and a half nights had to sleep on the street. Joe was going out in the world to test the world s sense of community and the goodness of society. What he was doing was depending so much on the fact that he wanted to see and prove that at a tough time, society can still be generous. He relied on society for transportation, food, shelter, and friendship mainly. Society was really under the microscope in this documentary and is put to the test. There were many different types of people seen in this documentary, a lot of them are free spirited and wanting to start new beginnings. Even if they had their own struggles going on in their life they were willing to help no matter what. Dylan is the man who drove Joe to Chicago, he was just looking for a new start somewhere. There were also people like Fran who were just trying to get by in a crazy world, she has been called crazy so many times in her life she decided it s just time to accept it. There are many people who are kind hearted, such as the man who ran the organization that helped refugee children, Gina in the soup kitchen and Brittany, who runs Kids of Promise and accepted all the clothes on behalf of the band of elves that Joe got together. Because of this, the problems that plague rural schools become enough of a problem that they threaten the identity of the community; unfortunately, many lawmakers and policymakers in seats of power do not have an intuitive understanding of how ruralschools work. Policies that work for urban schools, or even suburban schools, can not be assumed to fit the role of a rural school. It is suggested in this article that more attention needs to be paid to rural schools that fly under the radar or have misdiagnosed problems. A note on the last point: this is not a negative thing in and of itself, it is only a problem if the school does not have the resources or know how to handle a growing diverse population. It helps nobody if a diverse school is teaching to only the majority population. On a broad basis, the discussion in this article of problems being handled in a general way speaks volumes about our own pluralistic educational needs. We learn in class that it is important to not judge students based on their backgrounds, and that it is important to approach all cultures as unique. Using a broad stroke to try and cover diversity does not work. In a similar way, trying to solve the problems of rural schools using a broad stroke (using methods that normally apply to similar problems in an urban setting, for instance) will not work. As educators, it is important for us to consider the unique problems of the rural setting and to consider how these issues affect our students. The interactions between teachers and students determine the quality of education. Teachers send messages that tell students that they have potential and that they can learn. Teachers who know their subject matter, believe that all students can learn, and care about students as individuals can have a great impact on students and their learning, (379 Gollnick and Chinn). This snapshot provides a clear understanding of where the company stands financially. Similar to the income statement, the balance sheet can be compared to previous balance sheets to understand key financial trends of the organization. The balance sheet, by definition, is associated with balancing assets, liabilities, and owner equity. Company assets should equal liabilities plus owner equity (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 359). This relationship, a balanced equation between assets, liabilities, and equity, provides the balance sheet its name. Some of the major assets claimed by a corporation include cash, accounts receivable, inventory, and fixed assets (Melicher Norton, 2014, pp. 359 360) while major liabilities include accounts payable and various types of debt (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 360 361). Equity can include preferred stock, common stock, or retained earnings (Melicher Norton, 2014, p. 361). Like the income statement, the balance sheet provides consistency on how financial information is organized and categorized. It provides a consistent method to view the information of a corporation over time and also allows for the comparison of financial information between companies. However, I disagree with Jordan that it was an unthinking decision, it seems naГЇve to discount connections between legal statutes and a socially desired goal. Parent s assertion that laws were placed strategically to subjugate and eventually perpetually enslave seems reasonable. Thus obligatorily prejudice and feelings of superiority had to exist prior to the active pursuit of subjugation. It seems immaterial whether institutionalized slavery began immediately or later, because the action of acquiring a person for sale or servitude requires an establishment of superiority and inferiority. This dynamic had to exist from slavery s beginning. The economic argument, that it was vital for the establishment and maintenance of the nation, contributed, but if the essential element of moral justification did not exist, it is doubtful that it could have resulted in perpetual, inherited slavery. Legal implementation of slavery was simply a tool to control slavery s development, and subjugate indigenous people and black slaves. Smaje s assertion that Political associations also had impact has merit. The evidence for this is that it would have been more effective, efficient and economically beneficial to enslave either Indians or indentured servants or both, but they did neither. Why? Because these people had agency either through associations in Britain or the means to resist or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over unhappiness. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. • 52. Interlations And The Impacts Of Wind And Ocean Interactions 2.1 Wind and ocean interactions When wind is experienced it mainly impacts the surface waters in the ocean, these waters are subject to movement. Due to the effects of the Coriolis force air movement is deflected to the left in the southern hemisphere. A phenomenon known as the Ekman spiral is initiated once water at the surface begins to move. This surface movement initiates the bottom water layers to move as well to the left of the force that is driving it. In addition, the Ekman spiral movement begins to weaken at deeper water depths. The Ekman spiral force is directed downwards where it operates at right angles to the wind, where in the southern hemisphere it operates to the left. Evidently the physical atmospheric environment, the wind, interacts with the ocean altering ocean current speed and the way in which water in its various depths are mixed together (Wanninkhof, 1992). 2.2 Circulation of the thermohaline In addition to circulation driven by the wind in oceans there is circulation that exists due to convection. These convection differences exist as a result of alterations in water density which differs according to temperature and salinity adjustments present at the surface of the ocean. Downward convection, the movement of heat energy, is administered by the size of what is known as the thermocline which is commonly referred to as a temperature gradient.
