Analysis Of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life...

15 November 2015
The Effect of Structure on Purpose in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich One Day in the Life of
Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn follows a Russian prison inmate, Shukhov, through a
standard day in the gulag system. The novel displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane
conditions and how he deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides
insight into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of prisoners hold.
By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a platform from which he can
bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an
important role in the structure on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The lack of chapters,
sections, or parts in the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day
that drags on. In the following passage, Shukhov reveals the how time is perceived in the camp: No
zek ever lays eyes on a clock or watch... All a zek needs to know is how soon is reveille? How long till
work parade? Till dinnertime? (171) . The effect of time elongation is done with the lack of specific
times; events are only described chronologically and specific times are rarely used. Personal time is a
precious resource for the prisoners, or zeks. To the zeks, time in the prison camp is a contradiction
because there is too much of

Feminist Perspective on Eighteenth Century Literature Essay
Feminist Perspective on Eighteenth Century Literature
Feminism during the eighteenth century has come to be defined by the literature of the time. Women,
who did not have as many outlets as they do today, expressed their political opinions through literature
itself. Although feminist texts existed before the end of the century, women writers in the final decade
were seen as more threatening to the dominant patriarchal system. Following the overthrow of the
government in France, women in Britain believed that a revolution in sentiments, manners, and moral
opinions was possible in their own country (5). Writers such as Mary Wollstonecraft reacted to the
conservative patriarchal society by [drawing] parallels between the domestic ... Show more content on

Unlike men, women who sought political reformer were labeled as unsexed, meaning that it was
unnatural for women as the frail or gentle sex to harbor brutal thoughts, to want to be the equals of
men, or to meddle in politics, all of which make them perverse or unacceptable examples of their kind
(4). During the reactionary decade of the 1790 s, concerns normally thought to be private and
domestic women s education, their choice of husbands, female conduct, sexuality, and manners
became politicized as general topics of interest (14). The outspoken behavior regarding their position
was seen as inappropriate for women. However, not all women addressed these topics with a radical
perspective. Some women, who today would be considered a setback to the feminist movement, took
a rather conservative approach. Women s literary history, in terms of feminism, can be broken down
into three stages of development:
the feminine phase, in which women internalize the male culture s assumptions about female nature;
the feminist phase, in which women are able to dramatize the ordeals of wronged womanhood; and the
female phase, when women turn... to female experience as the source of an autonomous art (14).
Authors such as Jane West and Hannah More were considered part of the feminine stage, Jane Austen
and Ann Radcliffe were associated with the feminist

Questions On Oral Corrective Feedback
Oral Corrective Feedback Corrective feedback is defined as a reply to learner expressions having an
error and its major role is to offer guidance and insight to teachers on what they need to provide to
their learners in order to promote growth and comprehension of the second language. This paper seeks
to identify the various types of oral corrective feedback through studying of previous literatures
published on corrective feedback which are broadly classified into two categories: prompts and
reformulations. Despite the existence of shortcomings associated with corrective feedback, the
receptiveness of students to corrective feedback indicates its significance in enhancing the learning of
second languages. According to Lyster and Ranta, six different types of CF exist but these can further
be broadly classified into two categories; prompts and reformulations (37). Prompts include different
types of signals that push a learner to self repair. These prompt signals include metalinguistic clues,
repetition, elicitation, and clarification requests. Reformulations, on the other hand, include explicit
correction and recasts, which provide the learner with target formulations of their non target output.
Moreover, corrective feedback could be classified as either implicit or explicit. Recasts are on many
occasions considered implicit, but can also become explicit due to certain characteristics such as
length, linguistic target, and changes made to the original utterance.

Mr Nobody Essay
General Purpose: Don t burden yourself with the weight of choices. Specific Purpose: By the end of
the speech the audience will: understand that I change my mind from being a logical decision making
machine to more open to mystery and randomness. Central Idea: The movie Mr. Nobody changed my
perspective on how decisions are important yet sometimes are left better off to chance. Main Idea 1: I
used to feel that decisions are better made logically and the best most efficient way to reap the benefits
is to weight your options and choose no matter how hard it may be being predictable. Supporting idea

No matter the situation, the choice must be right. But in Mr. Nobody, Nemo explains that not all our
choices have to be right. That s because we don t know what s right until they happen. Main Idea 2:
The movie Mr. Nobody showed me that knowing your actions or results doesn t make it easier to live
with ourselves. So sometimes when you take the blame off yourself and put it on mystery, it makes
life easier to live. Supporting idea 2a: Nemo had the choice to choose to leave his mother or leave his
father, and after seeing all his outcomes; he chooses none. Because the burden of choosing one family
member over the only raises complexity and conflict in his mind. Also, running away was the only
time his decisions couldn t be judged because he didn t know what would happen. Supporting Idea 2b:
The movie made me realize that the burden my choices bear keeps me from choosing the choice that s
good for me, so applying some unpredictability to them helps. It may not be the right choice, but I
wouldn t know which choice was the best until I made one. Transition: a quote from the movie says,
You have to make the right choice. As long as you don t choose, everything remains

SWOT analysis, which inquires in to strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOTs), is the
traditional means of searching for insights into ways of realizing the desired alignment (Ansoff 1965;
Andrews; 1987; Porter 1991; Mintzberg 1994; Ahlstrand and Lampel 1998). The Stanford Research

An additional force i.e., vi) the relative power of other stakeholders is also considered by various
management specialists over and above the five forces to suit the changing business environment. A
company shall assess the impact of these forces to analyse their growth potential in the market. The
higher the influence of each of the forces, the firm loses its ability to earn higher profits. High forces
can be regarded as threat as it may affect the potential of the firm to generate profits and a low force
can be regarded as opportunity to enhance its profitability. In the long run, a company may choose a
suitable strategy to change the strength of one or more forces to company s competitive advantages.
Porter s fives forces are used for evaluation of the competitive position of a firm in the industry
segment. According to Porter (2008), awareness of the five forces can help a company understand the
structure of its industry and stake out a position that is more profitable and less vulnerable to attack. In
contrary to the Porter s five forces, Rumelt (1991) argues that, firm specific factors are more important
to the profitability of a business than industry wide factors.

Thomas Jefferson Hemings Diary Analysis
If all the sympathy and love toward slaves that Thomas Jefferson held could be summed up by a single
collection of first hand documents, it would come from the diaries of Sally Hemings. Although many
conflicting accounts of their relationship exist, Hemings diary suggests that a level of romance beyond
procreation existed between the two. Hemings diary includes multiple accounts of Jefferson giving her
luxuries reserved for members of the family. One of the boldest entries in the Hemings diary is written
from the words of Jefferson. Hemings own words prior to the entry imply that Jefferson is trying to
convince her to come to America with him. Jefferson s words in the entry are the following: Marry
within the family. You ll gain my fidelity....The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1814, Jefferson wrote a letter to Edward Coles concerning the emancipation of slaves. When
discussing the idea Jefferson wrote that, The laws do not permit us to turn them loose, if that were for
their good: and to commute them for other property is to commit them to those whose usage of them
we cannot control. I hope then, my dear sir, you will reconcile yourself to your country and its
unfortunate condition. Here Jefferson explains that freeing his own slaves won t lead to a better life for
them. In context, the argument Jefferson presents is that if all slaves were freed, they would be unable
to integrate into the American society. This belief held by Jefferson was first presented in query XIV
of Notes on the State of Virginia, where he responds to question of black integration with the
conclusion that such an integration would, reproduce convulsions which will probably never end but
in the extermination of the one or the other race (Jefferson 140). It is truly perplexing to assign these
words to a man who lived and procreated with a slave, yet the statement is consistent with all other
aspects of his life. Some have argued that Jefferson made such claims to protect his own wealth and
assets, but no documents produced at the time support that belief. As many slaveowners did at the
time, Jefferson thought of his slaves as members of his family (Nicolaisen 108). Considering his
prejudice, it is likely that he truly believed remaining a slave master was in his slaves best

Essay On 13 Days To Glory
Although writing is a task done mainly by one person, nobody writes a book alone. Without the
encouragement, suggestions and reviews of others no book especially this one would be completed.
So I must first thank my seventh graders who looked upon me with eager, innocent eyes willing to
accept as gospel my unprepared view of Texas history. There is a special place in hell for anyone who
can intentionally misinform such young minds. I couldn t do it. So began the genesis of this book.
Although I only taught for two years while awaiting Arkansas and Texas bar results to become a
lawyer, I refused to mislead my students. My own teachers had set high standards of education I could
not defer. Texas Monthly printed that an historical marker where General Santa Anna was captured is

Teacher s Support And Society
Poverty occurs in many families and affects them in many ways. Teachers main concerns in poverty is
how it impacts the child development. Families who live in poverty face disadvantages that can hinder
their children s development in many ways (Duncan, 2014). Not all teachers know the impact that a
child in poverty has to go thru each day. It is hard trying to focus in class and thinking about where
you will sleep or when you will have your next meal. This paper shows resources that a teacher can
use when having a child in poverty in their classroom so they can better understand the student. It also
addresses the global effects of poverty and educational outcomes by including findings from both
developed and developing countries. Teacher s support and society can help a child in poverty and the
family. According to Patrice L. Engle and Maureen M. Black Poverty affects a child s development
and educational outcomes beginning in the earliest years of life, both directly and indirectly through
mediated, moderated, and transactional processes. School readiness, or the child s ability to use and
profit from school, has been recognized as playing a unique role in escape from poverty in the United
States and increasingly in developing countries. It is a critical element but needs to be supported by
many other components of a poverty alleviation strategy, such as improved opportunity structures and
empowerment of families (Engle). In the study the authors used information from

Lessons From The Light By Phaedo
Thinking about our mental lives extended beyond our biological death is a common topic in society
and culture. Research has shown that the mind and normal consciousness are common with the
functioning of the brain. Yet, many people believe in some form of life after death, which many
religions have faith in. In Plato s Phaedo dialogue, Socrates explains that a true philosopher should
look forward to death . Death is the final separation of the soul and body; most believe that the soul is
immortal, so it will survive death. Socrates argues three statements that the soul is indeed immortal,
the first statement is known as Argument from opposite. In this argument everything is opposite such
as life and death are opposites, humans live and eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Then Plato explains that life comes in many forms, such as Form of beauty, Form of Justice, and other
Forms. The soul is perfect and never ending, not only for this life but forever. The summary of
Kenneth Ring s book Lessons from the Light gave reasons that death is a beautiful thing. After a
nearby death moment whether good or bad, you change in a way to better yourself as a person and/or
for god. In this summary it lists ten lessons after having that experience, such as do not fear about
death, life is precious, and many more.
At this moment in my life for being just 20, I am scared and unsure if I think our mental lives extend
beyond our biological deaths. I will never know what happens after I die, until I am actually dying. All
of what happens after death is based specifically on faith and beliefs. Life after death can either be in
Hell or in Heaven depending on what you believe in. What determine our afterlife are our intentions
and actions in this life on earth now. At this moment in my life I do not have strong religious beliefs,
but my family is religious and pray for a good after life. In my opinion and way of life, I cannot
determine where my soul is going to travel or if it is going to be with God. I will only know once I am
in that spot, that once I die, I exactly know where my soul is

Capabilities Of Natural Gas Fracking
Capabilities of Natural Gas Fracking In the face of looming environmental concerns such as air
pollution and waste disposal while searching for resources, fracking for natural gas has become a
widely debated topic. Fracking for natural gas however, if done responsibly, can have potentially huge
benefits that outweigh any cost. There are a few major reasons that natural gas fracking Companies
that resort to fracking for natural gas are under immense pressure to disclose their methods, and in
accordance to the law, they yield that information willingly. Companies also are required to frack in
accordance to water boundaries, or in locations that cant harm water supplies essential to certain areas
such as towns or habitats. Natural gas fracking also has 3 interlinked benefits: social improvement,
positive economic improvement, and even an environmental benefit, relating to how natural gas is
reusable and has reduced emissions. Alternative energy sources are needed in todays times where oil
and coal aid in the damage of our atmosphere, and natural gas fracking can help with that wish.
Modern fracking companies have been extremely open and willing to show how greatly they have
improved fracking methods over time since its discovery in 1947. The methods used shortly after its
discovery were harmful to the environment and the fracking companies weren t aware of the
geological harm it could do if not done properly. Ground weakening could occur if not done properly.

This ad violates social and cultural norms by replacing beautiful women who normally would
advertise cars with sumo wrestlers, a reference to the origin of the cars manufacturer. In an article
published in Motor Authority it was quoted that Unlike the bikini wearing models in other ads, you re
not left wondering where the car is...If anything your eyes seek out the [car], if only for aesthetic

In this advertisement Subaru Canada is also portraying a sense of Japanese pride. Sumo wrestlers are

pride, the sumo wrestler. This connects viewers with the pride of a Japanese manufactured car that the
ad is trying to sell.

Subaru Canada is selling a new type of car advertisement which shows deviance to societal norms by

Why I Have A Healthcare Profession
During tenth grade, I decided to have a healthcare profession. Several people in my family work in the
health field as a psychiatrist, nurse, and doctor. In my country, Haiti, the option to go to school was
very limited because it s very expensive. My father saved up enough money, so we can move to the
United States. At the age of three, we came to the U.S. and my little brother Kenley was born in this
country. I accomplished my twelve year public education in Stamford, CT. I graduated from Academy
of Information Technology Engineering high school in 2013. Throughout high school, I volunteered in
the Stamford Hospital for three years. It was a great experience to serve many different individuals.
For example, I worked in departments such as Endoscopy, Patient Transportation, Patient Registration,
Maternity, Sunshine Team, and the Surgical Weight Loss. Next, I attended a nursing program called
Southern Westchester Boces in Harrison, NY on September, 2014. In addition, I was assigned three
nursing home locations and for each place I stayed there for eight weeks. I learned nursing skills such
as vital signs (pulse, temperature, respirations, and blood pressure); administered medication;
performed injections; provided care for tracheostomy, gastrostomy, and wounds. I graduated on June
24, 2014 and it was a ten month program. After graduating from a nursing school, it s a requirement to

Emotional Intelligence, By Daniel Goleman
In the book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman discusses what emotional intelligence is, how it
can be achieved, and why it can matter more than your IQ. Emotional intelligence, by his definition, is
the ability to recognize and understand both our personal emotions and the emotions of others. This
also includes the ability to manage our personal emotions. He introduces us to the topic and the
history of the brain, discusses the importance of it in our lives, marriage, and business, and concludes
by suggesting it should be developed during childhood when the brain is still developing. However,
this does not mean our emotional intelligence skills cannot be sharpened and taught during adulthood.
According to Goleman, academic intelligence has little to do with emotional life (Goleman, 34) and
therefore does not correlate immensely with success. More specifically, he says IQ contributes about
20% to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80% to other forces... ranging from social
class to luck (34). Essentially, this means that just because you are smart, it does not mean you will be
successful. You must have social skills and good standing. Studies have found that having a high IQ,
but low emotional intelligence results in a sort of detachment a lack of understanding and a lack of
interest in the world. By contrast, a low IQ and high emotional intelligence result in an outgoing and
cheerful personality, with a desire to live life and find meaning in

Gender Roles In The Great Gatsby
Good Afternoon Ms Atkinson and fellow peers, as you can see, the texts I have chosen to discuss with
you are To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lullaby by
W. H . Auden, all of which have modernist themes, including conforming to traditional gender roles,
time and love. To the Lighthouse revolves around the lives of the Ramsay family who are at their
holiday house, hosting some guests, including Lily Briscoe (a painter) and Charles. The family are

for her husband, yet both of them knew that she loved him. As Mr Ramsay can be seen as a
representation of a typical modernist man, we see that like many other artists of the lost generation, he
is constantly plagued with insecurities, constantly seeking reassurance in the brokenness of the
fragmented society. In To the Lighthouse, we see that Mrs Ramsay wishes that James and Cam do not
grow any older, Oh, but she never wanted James to grow a day older! or Cam either , this is in contrast
to W. H. Auden s lullaby when he says, All the dreaded cards foretell, shall be paid, but from this

lovers will be separated, possibly by death, the author still wants to cherish the moments he can have
with his lover, and that he refuses to have any interruptions separating him and his lover till fate parts
them. W. H. Auden also writes, Time and fever burn away individual beauty stating that although
people may be extremely beautiful, but disease and time decays their beauty and ultimately, everyone
has the same ending point. Although the poet and Mrs Ramsay has conflicting attitudes about time and
love, both have an ominous feeling of an unavoidable end. Again, Woolf uses a mixture of shifting

Montessori Educational Approach And Early Childhood Education
The Montessori educational approach was developed by Italian psychiatrist Maria Montessori, who
initially began working with deprived and retarded children. Observations on educational challenges
faced by these children directed her to formulate theories in the fields of cognitive development and
early childhood education. Noticing the progress made by students that were previously considered
uneducable, Montessori ponder the poor performance normal children were having at regular schools.
She argued that schools during that time (late 19th beginning of 20th century) were not meeting the
individual educational needs of children and hence suffocated, rather than encourage, learning. In
1907 she opened her own school to see if her methods could be implemented for educating normal
children. Montessori believed that children learn what they are willing to learn; they might have
significant differences from each other depending on what stage they are to what materials they might
be receptive at any particular time (Arcus, 2001).
The Montessori educational approach emphasizes in individualized education. Children are free to
work at their own pace and to select what they would like to learn and do in a competition free
environment. The trademark of Montessori s approach is the child s self absorption in discovery and
mastery of tasks. Additionally, Montessori s classrooms encourage self direction in a pleasant
atmosphere, self discipline and respect for authority (Certini,

Working In A Group Analysis
Working in a group was a great way to get to know my classmates. Despite our differences, we
worked together and completed the assignment. I like working in a group, but sometimes I would
rather do the assignment on my own. Group work has its good and bad effects. Group work allows a
big assignment to be completed at a faster pace than working alone. I did not know much about
zombies, but some of my other group members did. Each individual has different viewpoints;
therefore, it helped us accomplish our ten paragraph essay in a small amount of time. My group as a
whole was assigned the role of public health. Haley was the leader, and she assigned each group
member a specific task that we were responsible for. Each of us had to write two paragraphs about a
specific situation that was given to us. We worked together and wrote the introduction and conclusion.
I did not like the fact that my grade relied on other people. On the other hand, I had some control over
that by telling them how I felt about what was going on. None of my group members was a total
slacker. Although, I did not know my group members personally, so I was not sure whether or not they
would take responsibility and complete what was assigned to them. They all pulled through and we
achieved our goal of completing the assignment. We each worked ... Show more content on

have been lost. I would not have known where to even begin. Being in a group allows you to throw
your ideas out there, and combine them and come up with something great. I do not know what the

Causes And Effects Of The Missouri Compromise
Effects of Missouri Compromise The Missouri Compromise was a temporary solution to the issue of
slavery and territorial rights such as the movement West. Two areas of land wanted to become states in
1820, known as Maine and Missouri. Maine wanted to enter as a free state with no slavery as
everyone in that area was against it and wanted it abolished. Missouri wanted to enter as a slave state
and was all for slavery and wanted it to be spread all throughout the country. The compromise
everyone came into conclusion with, was that there would be no slavery allowed north of 36° 30
latitude. This angered the Southerners because their intention was to promote slavery not have it
abolished. They realized that this compromise threatened the balance between free and slave states;
Maine and Missouri. In order to expand slavery, the South felt that the United States would need
territory from Mexico. The only area of land left was in Arkansas and that line became known as the
Missouri Compromise line. The impact that the Missouri Compromise had on the United States was
tremendous and had many effects on issues such as national politics, the institution of slavery, and the
overall togetherness of the nation as a whole. America s states were being shattered in the fact that the
states were turning against one another and fighting for what each geographical state believed in. The
Northern more states wanted slavery to be abolished and to treat them like humans, however the South

Mens Rea Essay
n criminal law, the mens rea refers to the defendant s state of mind at the time of their crime and there
are several levels reflecting the need to have a particular mens rea for the offence committed. For
example, in murder or a S:18 offence in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the mens rea
present must be that of specific intent, which is where the defendant desired that particular outcome of
their actions. However, it was held in R v Cunningham 1982, that the intention to cause serious harm
was enough to satisfy the mens rea for murder. This shows that, where murder cases are concerned,
that it is relatively easy to prove the required mens rea and in doing so the concept of fault is often
satisfied. This is once again shown in oblique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the original hearing, Ahluwalia was convicted of murder as the law on provocation required the
loss of self control to be immediate, not premeditated and this may have been the case as the
defendant waited for her husband to sleep before murdering him. However, the law has since
developed and provocation now recognises battered woman s syndrome and the slow burn effect it
may cause. If this is the case, then surely a defendant in such a situation cannot face the full wrath of
fault when much of what surrounded the killing was not out of their choice. Even though the actus
reus and mens rea in this case, and also similar cases of R v Duffy 1949 and R v Thornton 1992, were
present, the law s introduction of a Domestic Violence Bill is perhaps confirmation that the concept of
fault can only be appropriately applied when the full circumstances are looked at. This signifies the
importance of defences, as it is here that the law can decide whether or not a person is to blame for
their actions and to what extent it was their fault that the actus reus and mens rea were

The Causes And Impacts Of The International Space Station
The International Space Station commonly known as the (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits around
Earth. This space station serves as a home for the crews of astronauts and cosmonauts. The space
station is also a unique science laboratory. Several nations such as Canada, Japan, the Russian
Federation, the United States, and eleven Member States of the European Space Agency (Belgium,
Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United
Kingdom) worked together to build and use this space station. The space station is made of parts that
were assembled by astronauts, in space itself. NASA is using this space station to learn more about the
living and working conditions in space. These discoveries will help make it possible for them to find
out if it is feasible to send humans farther into space than ever done in the past.
Political:
The International Space Station was first considered in the waning years of the Cold War. A space
station called Mir was prepared to be launched by the Soviet Union, which went into orbit in 1986.
The United States wanted to match its rival.During his 1984 State of the Union address, President
Ronald Regan announced his plans for a U.S led project. Russia was invited to join the space station
by the United States when they decided to expand their international partnership, after the collapse of
the Soviet Union in 1993. Eugene Skolnikoff, professor emeritus of political science at the

Babbit by Sinclair Lewis Essays
Babbitt: Conformity
In the Sinclair Lewis novel Babbitt, the character of Babbitt is completely controlled by the power of
conformity. Conformity is so powerful that even after babbitt realizes the stifling nature of the society
in which he lives he is powerless to change his fate as a member of conformist society.
George F. Babbitt is a man who is completely controlled by the conformist society in which he lives.
Pressure to conform lies in all aspects of Babbitt s life. Relationships, family, social life, and business
are all based on his ability to conform to Zenith s preset standards of thought and action. All of Babbitt

Lewis wanted to show the reader, a man who s life is based on the ideals and standards of others.
quot;Villages overgrown towns three quarters of a million people still dressing, eating, building
houses, attending church, to make an impression on their neighbors. quot; (Lewis). This is what Lewis
thought of American society and he used Babbitt to voice his opinions to his readers. In fact that
passage was intended to be included in the original introduction of Babbitt, which was never
published.
Babbitt does well in conformist society because in the beginning of the novel he accepts all the
standards, goals, ideals, likes, and dislikes of society. Babbitt s though mirrors all those around him
and he is therefore accepted in society. At first Babbitt lives in the illusion of happiness. The happiness
Babbitt experiences is not genuine because he has replaced his desires with those of society. Since
Babbitt is controlled by society his goals are also controlled by it. The goals set by society are
economic and material worth, social standing, and conservative thought.
Since Babbitt has achieved, at least in part, these goals he is in a sense fooled into believing he is truly
happy. Babbitt s true desires however are not those of society he dreams of nature instead of
modernization, young women instead of his

How Did The Holocaust Happen
It is clear that the holocaust did happen but why would some people believe that it did not? Many
sources state that people don t deny the holocaust. But don t think that there could be that high of
numbers with people being murdered and killed and that they weren t death camps, the people died of
some sort of disease and starvation. The main thing is that they believe that Hitler did not command
the holocaust and that it was not the Nazis that committed it. Then who did? At the trials of
Nuremberg in 1945 and 1946 twenty two major, high ranked Nazis were charged on the holocaust and
many others were found guilty before and after those trials.
An article states that there is no autopsy reports and that there was nothing in German documents that
state facts on the holocaust or if it happened. Although there were many thousands of corpses
available in German concentration camps by the end of the war and although at least 1,000 autopsies
were performed, none showed any evidence of death by poison gas or poison. There is many videos
from the survivors of the holocaust that even tell there stories about it. Those same people believe that
there is no physical documents or proof was found, and even after being told, being proven
wrong. They still believe that the holocaust did not happen and that something that massive ... Show

Introduction
We will be exploring and providing insight into the structure of the 82nd Airborne Division. The time
frame that we will be analyzing for will be 1940 1945. The reason that I chose this time frame was
because it heavily influenced the structure, tactics and methods of employment of an experimental
fighting formation in the United States Army. We will explore the organization using Bolman and

After the Airborne operation in support of the beach landings in Sicily on D day resulted in
Paratroopers and units being spread across a hundreds of miles as well as multiple aircraft being shot
down by friendly forces. Many of the senior leaders were applying vertical thinking, calling for the
scraping the 82nd and sending its personnel out to reinforce their ground forces on the front lines. The
leaders of the division utilized a problem solving model. Whetten and Cameron?s (2014) problem
solving model consists of four steps; define, generate solutions, evaluate those solutions, and then
follow up and refine (p.175). James Gavin defined the problem on D day as aircraft becoming
disoriented preventing the accurate delivery of Paratroopers. He then generated solutions with the Air
Force pilots and his fellow Paratroopers. After they evaluated the solutions they selected the one that
all thought would the best fix to the issue. The final solution was that they would develop Pathfinder
units that would be dropped anywhere from 24 to 48 hours prior to the units airborne operation. Once
on the ground the pathfinders would move to the selected drop sites and turn on beacons that would
help guide the pilots into the drop zones. James Gavin just needed a way to test his new tactics in
combat. On September 9th, 1943 he got his chance the

Investing in Education Is the Most Effective Way to Reduce...
Investing in education is the most effective way to reduce poverty
In many ways this is a difficult statement to assess. There is no doubt that education is a key initiative
in the reduction of poverty. Whether it is the most effective is harder to say for sure. We can easily
confirm correlation in the relationship between reduced poverty and increases in factors such as
education and health. However it is no simple task to measure and compare the level of impact a
component such as education has on poverty. There are many factors and variables that influence the
poverty of a country and many of these factors influence one another, strengthening or weakening
their individual effects and implications. However after researching the topic I ... Show more content

The investigation, which randomized more than 75 schools, shows that the de worming lowered
absenteeism from school by one quarter in the treatment group and also improved health and school
participation in students who were not included in the program (Miguel amp; Kremer, 2004).
In 2005 at the UN s World Summit, the international community pledged half the number of people
living in extreme poverty by 2015 outlining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These are a
series of eight dead lined targets, most of which aim to eradicate the root causes of poverty worldwide.
These goals highlight the main forms in which poverty appears hunger, education, inequality and
various health related problems. These are therefore the main areas that investment is made to reduce
poverty (UNFPA, 2005). The eight MDG s are: eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, Achieving
universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, reducing child
mortality rates, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases,
ensuring environmental sustainability, and developing a global partnership for development.
Looking at these MDG s, which area of investment would be most effective in reducing poverty? You
can see from the above goals that health is a dominant issue, as many of the goals can be attributed to
health deficiency problems. It is also true that hunger is maybe the most important and fundamental
form of poverty

College Essay On Dermatology
Dermatology From the time of when I was a young child, I ve always had intentions to provide care
for those in need. From dressing up as a doctor and pretending to give my family a routine checkup, to

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Florence Kelley s Speech
Throughout history, individuals have fought for more justifiable working conditions. Florence Kelley,
a social worker and reformer, fought to gain more adequate working conditions for the children of the
United States. At this time nearly twenty percent of American workers were under the age of sixteen.
Kelley delivered a speech in Philadelphia on July 22, 1905, during the convention of the National
American Woman Suffrage Association, that strived for more fair minded hours, rather than the long,
unhealthy, and tedious shifts thats children were put through overnight. Kelley utilizes both appeals to
logic and appeals to emotion, in order to rally up her audience in joining her to fight for more rational,
more healthy, and more just hours. Effective uses of appeals to logic are made through insightful
parallel structure and an oxymoron, both of which demonstrate the unjust truth. Kelley ensures her
audience that the growing rate of working children is indeed overpowering the rate of working adults
when she states, Men increase, women increase, youth increase, boys increase in the ranks of the
breadwinners; but no contingent so doubles from census period (both by percent and by count of
heads), as does the contingent of girls between twelve and twenty years of age. The parallelism depicts
how there was a normal flow of growth for all men, women, and boys, yet the growth rate of ... Show

Napoleon Bonaparte s Rise To Power
Napoleon Bonaparte Although Napoleon faced several struggles while rising to power, he was
eventually able to achieve military status and better the French government during his reign as the
leader of France. Bonaparte was a bold and ambitious leader who worked diligently at a young age to
gain the positions that he held. Life for Napoleon was never easy while he was growing up, ruling
France, or being defeated by the European powers. In Corsica on August 15, 1769, Carlos and Letizia
gave birth to their second of what would soon be eight children, and they named him Napoleon.

In 1821 the Russians denied their support for Napoleon s Continental System that he had put in place
as a means to block British trade in Europe. Napoleon immediately penetrated Russia, but quickly
learned that defeating them would be much more laborious than he had initially anticipated
(History.com Staff, 2009). The Russians had developed a clever tactic, where they would retreat and
sabotage everything along their path whenever Napoleon s army would advance. As a result,
Napoleon and his men were led deeper into Russia, but found themselves with few supplies. Winter
was rapidly approaching, which contributed to the heavy casualties that were experienced on both
battlefronts (Dugdale, P.T., 2006). Shortly after Napoleon s retreat, he was defeated and sent into exile
by European powers. Elba, an island just off of the British coast was where he would stay until his
escape back to France. Once back in France, he ruled once again for 100 days, but with each passing
day Europe forced Napoleon further away from his glory and prestige (McLynn, F., 1997). Napoleon
continued to put up a fight, but eventually at the Battle of Waterloo he was finally defeated and sent
into exile once again. He was no longer sent to Elba but instead to Saint Helen where he would later
take his last breathe. He died in 1821 at the age of just 51, and was believed to have died from

The Concepts Of Nature Vs Nurture
The concepts of Nature vs Nurture, are major concepts in social science. Nature is the hereditary
pattern of physical features in a human being s development. These features include, but are not
limited to, our personality, usual and unusual appearances and the general measurements of how
humans hold the attributes of being sociable, hostile behavior, their emotions, and the usage of alcohol
and drugs. On the other hand Nurture is slightly different. Nurture is the influence of the environment
that plays upon the behavior and characteristics in a human. The idea of nurture is that humans will
grow up to form their personality on the way they are raised and life experiences. Culture is defined
by the people in the environment, however, the environment helps shape and form human
personalities in order to forge a culture. Culture is created by religions/beliefs, clothing/foods,
language/social habits as well as the humanistic discipline; such as music, paintings, literature, and
many more. Culture is generated by humankind, because humans hold their belief systems and
patterns that was passed down by generations; by humans passing down what they have learned from
their families this begins to create a culture. Personality plays a central role in both nature vs nurture
and culture. Furthermore, personality is stated the total organization of inherited and acquired
characteristics of an individual as evidenced by the individual s behavior (Hunt 119). Personality is

grading of essays becomes harsher and my grades continued to drop. One of my biggest problems in
writing was that I mixed up my verb tenses constantly. I spoke to my teacher and explained my
problem. She understood my problem and gave me a few suggestions. She offered to proofread my
essays, suggested that I go to the student center in the library, and even speak to the our librarian, who

asked them to read my drafts, and they would comment on how much I had improved. Sometimes, I
still struggle with my tenses when I write. Consequently, I make sure that I go over it at least twice, or
more, and let some of my peers read it for comments. Each time my friends tell me that my writing is
actually great, I don t fully believe them because I know there is still room for improvements.
Although my writing improved greatly, I still struggle using the correct tenses and usually mix up past
tense and present tense. I continue working to improve improving my writing skills even further, and

  • 2. Analysis Of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life... David Cheng Ms. Chappell AP English 15 November 2015 The Effect of Structure on Purpose in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn follows a Russian prison inmate, Shukhov, through a standard day in the gulag system. The novel displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane conditions and how he deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides insight into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of prisoners hold. By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a platform from which he can bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an important role in the structure on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The lack of chapters, sections, or parts in the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day that drags on. In the following passage, Shukhov reveals the how time is perceived in the camp: No zek ever lays eyes on a clock or watch... All a zek needs to know is how soon is reveille? How long till work parade? Till dinnertime? (171) . The effect of time elongation is done with the lack of specific times; events are only described chronologically and specific times are rarely used. Personal time is a precious resource for the prisoners, or zeks. To the zeks, time in the prison camp is a contradiction because there is too much of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Feminist Perspective on Eighteenth Century Literature Essay Feminist Perspective on Eighteenth Century Literature Feminism during the eighteenth century has come to be defined by the literature of the time. Women, who did not have as many outlets as they do today, expressed their political opinions through literature itself. Although feminist texts existed before the end of the century, women writers in the final decade were seen as more threatening to the dominant patriarchal system. Following the overthrow of the government in France, women in Britain believed that a revolution in sentiments, manners, and moral opinions was possible in their own country (5). Writers such as Mary Wollstonecraft reacted to the conservative patriarchal society by [drawing] parallels between the domestic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike men, women who sought political reformer were labeled as unsexed, meaning that it was unnatural for women as the frail or gentle sex to harbor brutal thoughts, to want to be the equals of men, or to meddle in politics, all of which make them perverse or unacceptable examples of their kind (4). During the reactionary decade of the 1790 s, concerns normally thought to be private and domestic women s education, their choice of husbands, female conduct, sexuality, and manners became politicized as general topics of interest (14). The outspoken behavior regarding their position was seen as inappropriate for women. However, not all women addressed these topics with a radical perspective. Some women, who today would be considered a setback to the feminist movement, took a rather conservative approach. Women s literary history, in terms of feminism, can be broken down into three stages of development: the feminine phase, in which women internalize the male culture s assumptions about female nature; the feminist phase, in which women are able to dramatize the ordeals of wronged womanhood; and the female phase, when women turn... to female experience as the source of an autonomous art (14). Questions On Oral Corrective Feedback Oral Corrective Feedback Corrective feedback is defined as a reply to learner expressions having an error and its major role is to offer guidance and insight to teachers on what they need to provide to their learners in order to promote growth and comprehension of the second language. This paper seeks to identify the various types of oral corrective feedback through studying of previous literatures published on corrective feedback which are broadly classified into two categories: prompts and reformulations. Despite the existence of shortcomings associated with corrective feedback, the receptiveness of students to corrective feedback indicates its significance in enhancing the learning of second languages. According to Lyster and Ranta, six different types of CF exist but these can further be broadly classified into two categories; prompts and reformulations (37). Prompts include different types of signals that push a learner to self repair. These prompt signals include metalinguistic clues, repetition, elicitation, and clarification requests. Reformulations, on the other hand, include explicit correction and recasts, which provide the learner with target formulations of their non target output. Moreover, corrective feedback could be classified as either implicit or explicit. Recasts are on many occasions considered implicit, but can also become explicit due to certain characteristics such as length, linguistic target, and changes made to the original utterance. • 5. Mr Nobody Essay General Purpose: Don t burden yourself with the weight of choices. Specific Purpose: By the end of the speech the audience will: understand that I change my mind from being a logical decision making machine to more open to mystery and randomness. Central Idea: The movie Mr. Nobody changed my perspective on how decisions are important yet sometimes are left better off to chance. Main Idea 1: I used to feel that decisions are better made logically and the best most efficient way to reap the benefits is to weight your options and choose no matter how hard it may be being predictable. Supporting idea 1a: Whenever I buy a drink, it s always a Chocolate Chip Frappe. Because I know how it tastes, I know what I don t like about it. So, was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No matter the situation, the choice must be right. But in Mr. Nobody, Nemo explains that not all our choices have to be right. That s because we don t know what s right until they happen. Main Idea 2: The movie Mr. Nobody showed me that knowing your actions or results doesn t make it easier to live with ourselves. So sometimes when you take the blame off yourself and put it on mystery, it makes life easier to live. Supporting idea 2a: Nemo had the choice to choose to leave his mother or leave his father, and after seeing all his outcomes; he chooses none. Because the burden of choosing one family member over the only raises complexity and conflict in his mind. Also, running away was the only time his decisions couldn t be judged because he didn t know what would happen. Supporting Idea 2b: The movie made me realize that the burden my choices bear keeps me from choosing the choice that s good for me, so applying some unpredictability to them helps. It may not be the right choice, but I wouldn t know which choice was the best until I made one. Transition: a quote from the movie says, You have to make the right choice. High forces can be regarded as threat as it may affect the potential of the firm to generate profits and a low force can be regarded as opportunity to enhance its profitability. In the long run, a company may choose a suitable strategy to change the strength of one or more forces to company s competitive advantages. Porter s fives forces are used for evaluation of the competitive position of a firm in the industry segment. According to Porter (2008), awareness of the five forces can help a company understand the structure of its industry and stake out a position that is more profitable and less vulnerable to attack. • 7. Thomas Jefferson Hemings Diary Analysis If all the sympathy and love toward slaves that Thomas Jefferson held could be summed up by a single collection of first hand documents, it would come from the diaries of Sally Hemings. Although many conflicting accounts of their relationship exist, Hemings diary suggests that a level of romance beyond procreation existed between the two. Hemings diary includes multiple accounts of Jefferson giving her luxuries reserved for members of the family. One of the boldest entries in the Hemings diary is written from the words of Jefferson. Hemings own words prior to the entry imply that Jefferson is trying to convince her to come to America with him. Jefferson s words in the entry are the following: Marry within the family. You ll gain my fidelity....The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1814, Jefferson wrote a letter to Edward Coles concerning the emancipation of slaves. When discussing the idea Jefferson wrote that, The laws do not permit us to turn them loose, if that were for their good: and to commute them for other property is to commit them to those whose usage of them we cannot control. I hope then, my dear sir, you will reconcile yourself to your country and its unfortunate condition. Here Jefferson explains that freeing his own slaves won t lead to a better life for them. In context, the argument Jefferson presents is that if all slaves were freed, they would be unable to integrate into the American society. This belief held by Jefferson was first presented in query XIV of Notes on the State of Virginia, where he responds to question of black integration with the conclusion that such an integration would, reproduce convulsions which will probably never end but in the extermination of the one or the other race (Jefferson 140). It is truly perplexing to assign these words to a man who lived and procreated with a slave, yet the statement is consistent with all other aspects of his life. Some have argued that Jefferson made such claims to protect his own wealth and assets, but no documents produced at the time support that belief. • 10. Teacher s Support And Society Poverty occurs in many families and affects them in many ways. Teachers main concerns in poverty is how it impacts the child development. Families who live in poverty face disadvantages that can hinder their children s development in many ways (Duncan, 2014). Not all teachers know the impact that a child in poverty has to go thru each day. It is hard trying to focus in class and thinking about where you will sleep or when you will have your next meal. This paper shows resources that a teacher can use when having a child in poverty in their classroom so they can better understand the student. It also addresses the global effects of poverty and educational outcomes by including findings from both developed and developing countries. Teacher s support and society can help a child in poverty and the family. According to Patrice L. Engle and Maureen M. Black Poverty affects a child s development and educational outcomes beginning in the earliest years of life, both directly and indirectly through mediated, moderated, and transactional processes. School readiness, or the child s ability to use and profit from school, has been recognized as playing a unique role in escape from poverty in the United States and increasingly in developing countries. It is a critical element but needs to be supported by many other components of a poverty alleviation strategy, such as improved opportunity structures and empowerment of families (Engle). Research has shown that the mind and normal consciousness are common with the functioning of the brain. Yet, many people believe in some form of life after death, which many religions have faith in. In Plato s Phaedo dialogue, Socrates explains that a true philosopher should look forward to death . Death is the final separation of the soul and body; most believe that the soul is immortal, so it will survive death. • 16. Emotional Intelligence, By Daniel Goleman In the book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman discusses what emotional intelligence is, how it can be achieved, and why it can matter more than your IQ. Emotional intelligence, by his definition, is the ability to recognize and understand both our personal emotions and the emotions of others. This also includes the ability to manage our personal emotions. He introduces us to the topic and the history of the brain, discusses the importance of it in our lives, marriage, and business, and concludes by suggesting it should be developed during childhood when the brain is still developing. However, this does not mean our emotional intelligence skills cannot be sharpened and taught during adulthood. According to Goleman, academic intelligence has little to do with emotional life (Goleman, 34) and therefore does not correlate immensely with success. More specifically, he says IQ contributes about 20% to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80% to other forces... ranging from social class to luck (34). Essentially, this means that just because you are smart, it does not mean you will be successful. You must have social skills and good standing. Studies have found that having a high IQ, but low emotional intelligence results in a sort of detachment a lack of understanding and a lack of interest in the world. By contrast, a low IQ and high emotional intelligence result in an outgoing and cheerful personality, with a desire to live life and find meaning in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Montessori Educational Approach And Early Childhood Education The Montessori educational approach was developed by Italian psychiatrist Maria Montessori, who initially began working with deprived and retarded children. Observations on educational challenges faced by these children directed her to formulate theories in the fields of cognitive development and early childhood education. Noticing the progress made by students that were previously considered uneducable, Montessori ponder the poor performance normal children were having at regular schools. She argued that schools during that time (late 19th beginning of 20th century) were not meeting the individual educational needs of children and hence suffocated, rather than encourage, learning. In 1907 she opened her own school to see if her methods could be implemented for educating normal children. Montessori believed that children learn what they are willing to learn; they might have significant differences from each other depending on what stage they are to what materials they might be receptive at any particular time (Arcus, 2001). The Montessori educational approach emphasizes in individualized education. Children are free to work at their own pace and to select what they would like to learn and do in a competition free environment. Causes And Effects Of The Missouri Compromise Effects of Missouri Compromise The Missouri Compromise was a temporary solution to the issue of slavery and territorial rights such as the movement West. Two areas of land wanted to become states in 1820, known as Maine and Missouri. Maine wanted to enter as a free state with no slavery as everyone in that area was against it and wanted it abolished. Missouri wanted to enter as a slave state and was all for slavery and wanted it to be spread all throughout the country. The compromise everyone came into conclusion with, was that there would be no slavery allowed north of 36° 30 latitude. This angered the Southerners because their intention was to promote slavery not have it abolished. They realized that this compromise threatened the balance between free and slave states; Maine and Missouri. In order to expand slavery, the South felt that the United States would need territory from Mexico. The only area of land left was in Arkansas and that line became known as the Missouri Compromise line. The impact that the Missouri Compromise had on the United States was tremendous and had many effects on issues such as national politics, the institution of slavery, and the overall togetherness of the nation as a whole. For example, in murder or a S:18 offence in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the mens rea present must be that of specific intent, which is where the defendant desired that particular outcome of their actions. However, it was held in R v Cunningham 1982, that the intention to cause serious harm was enough to satisfy the mens rea for murder. On the original hearing, Ahluwalia was convicted of murder as the law on provocation required the loss of self control to be immediate, not premeditated and this may have been the case as the defendant waited for her husband to sleep before murdering him. If this is the case, then surely a defendant in such a situation cannot face the full wrath of fault when much of what surrounded the killing was not out of their choice. Even though the actus reus and mens rea in this case, and also similar cases of R v Duffy 1949 and R v Thornton 1992, were present, the law s introduction of a Domestic Violence Bill is perhaps confirmation that the concept of fault can only be appropriately applied when the full circumstances are looked at. • 33. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Florence Kelley s Speech Throughout history, individuals have fought for more justifiable working conditions. Florence Kelley, a social worker and reformer, fought to gain more adequate working conditions for the children of the United States. At this time nearly twenty percent of American workers were under the age of sixteen. Kelley delivered a speech in Philadelphia on July 22, 1905, during the convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, that strived for more fair minded hours, rather than the long, unhealthy, and tedious shifts thats children were put through overnight. Kelley utilizes both appeals to logic and appeals to emotion, in order to rally up her audience in joining her to fight for more rational, more healthy, and more just hours. Effective uses of appeals to logic are made through insightful parallel structure and an oxymoron, both of which demonstrate the unjust truth. Kelley ensures her audience that the growing rate of working children is indeed overpowering the rate of working adults when she states, Men increase, women increase, youth increase, boys increase in the ranks of the breadwinners; but no contingent so doubles from census period (both by percent and by count of heads), as does the contingent of girls between twelve and twenty years of age. The parallelism depicts how there was a normal flow of growth for all men, women, and boys, yet the growth rate of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Napoleon Bonaparte s Rise To Power Napoleon Bonaparte Although Napoleon faced several struggles while rising to power, he was eventually able to achieve military status and better the French government during his reign as the leader of France. Bonaparte was a bold and ambitious leader who worked diligently at a young age to gain the positions that he held. Napoleon immediately penetrated Russia, but quickly learned that defeating them would be much more laborious than he had initially anticipated (History.com Staff, 2009). The Russians had developed a clever tactic, where they would retreat and sabotage everything along their path whenever Napoleon s army would advance. As a result, Napoleon and his men were led deeper into Russia, but found themselves with few supplies. Winter was rapidly approaching, which contributed to the heavy casualties that were experienced on both battlefronts (Dugdale, P.T., 2006). Shortly after Napoleon s retreat, he was defeated and sent into exile by European powers. Elba, an island just off of the British coast was where he would stay until his escape back to France. Once back in France, he ruled once again for 100 days, but with each passing day Europe forced Napoleon further away from his glory and prestige (McLynn, F., 1997). Napoleon continued to put up a fight, but eventually at the Battle of Waterloo he was finally defeated and sent into exile once again. He was no longer sent to Elba but instead to Saint Helen where he would later take his last breathe. He died in 1821 at the age of just 51, and was believed to have died from stomach ... • 36. The Concepts Of Nature Vs Nurture The concepts of Nature vs Nurture, are major concepts in social science. Nature is the hereditary pattern of physical features in a human being s development. These features include, but are not limited to, our personality, usual and unusual appearances and the general measurements of how humans hold the attributes of being sociable, hostile behavior, their emotions, and the usage of alcohol and drugs. On the other hand Nurture is slightly different. Nurture is the influence of the environment that plays upon the behavior and characteristics in a human. The idea of nurture is that humans will grow up to form their personality on the way they are raised and life experiences. Culture is defined by the people in the environment, however, the environment helps shape and form human personalities in order to forge a culture. Culture is created by religions/beliefs, clothing/foods, language/social habits as well as the humanistic discipline; such as music, paintings, literature, and many more. Culture is generated by humankind, because humans hold their belief systems and patterns that was passed down by generations; by humans passing down what they have learned from their families this begins to create a culture. Personality plays a central role in both nature vs nurture and culture.
