Opera Buffa Social Structure
Mozart composed three Italian opera buffa Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan tutte
with Lorenzo Da Ponte s libretto. In the eighteenth century, the advent of Enlightenment in Europe
changed the hierarchical social structure in European society. It brought great change to the women
s lifestyle by allowing noblewomen to have equal power to men and to voice themselves. Also,
peasant women changed their lifestyle by being treated more equally as men who were at the same
social level. Mozart brought this social phenomenon to the operasince opera buffareflected how
common people interacted with nobles and how men have started to respect women s opinions.
Mozart demonstrated gendered social structure by using soubrette characters.... Show more content

The maid views love as a power dynamic that requires women to offset their socially established
disadvantage with cleverness. Despina believes that women learn to be unfaithful because men are
that way .
Despina, a lower class woman, believes women and men should be equally treated. It shows that in
the era, women have an awareness of being equal to men. Also, I found that a maid s subordinate
position was raised in the eighteenth century. When the Revolution occurred, the mainstream social
class was lower class. If Despina was not just a character but an actual woman, she definitely would
have participated in the revolution.
Mozart s Opera buffa reflects the cultural and historical materials in the eighteenth century and
shows the life of common people. In the eighteenth century, the Enlightenment aroused throughout
Europe and this idea aimed for the general progress of humanity. The world was broken from the
aristocratic society to the lower class. Public opinion promoted equality over hierarchy. Women
took part in the revolution, and they improved their status in their family and society. They
demanded a proper education thus literacy highly increased. With these influences, Soubrette
characters in Mozart s opera buffa: Susanna, Zerlina and Despina have a mysterious power from the
Enlightenment. He maintains the characters in the same class and he did not break the social
structure. However, he presents equality between women and men. Women

Six Steps In Conflict Resolution
Conflicts in intimate relationships subsist inevitable. Despite the degree to which individuals stand
alike, differences in opinions and beliefs will transpire. This chapter taught me that it does not stand
as the topic of disagreement that retains importance, but rather the way in which the couple resolves
the conflict. According the text, six steps exist to aid in conflict resolution; The steps are: (1)
clarifying the issue; (2) finding out what each person wants; (3) identifying various alternatives;
(4) deciding how to negotiate; (5) solidifying agreements; and (6) reviewing and renegotiating
(Olson, DeFrain, Skogrand, 2014, p. 154). Upon reading the descriptions and facts, I find these six
steps to rest highly effective and imperative to conflict resolution. When a disagreement emerges,
couples tend to play the blame game, ignore their parent s perspective, and explore for a quick
solution. While it stands evident that these behaviors do not persist effective, these six steps
provide a solution. Although I do find these six steps to exist accurate, I cannot guarantee how
realistic they stand. Just as any other process, to remain realistic, the steps require two individuals
who value their relationships and desire its continuation. This process requires individuals to not
only voice their opinion, but also to clarify, identify, and negotiate this issue at hand. These steps
will not occur with ease or speed, but they will sanction for the complete resolution of

A Skin Disease Of Vitiligo
I am going to be discussing a skin disease called vitiligo. This skin disease occurs when one s
melanocytes, mature melanin forming cells, are ruined. Vitiligo is a disease that is not hard to
recognize and can be found at several spots on the body. The most common places to find this
disease would be on the hands, feet, around the mouth and eyes, and even around the genitalia. With
some skindiseases, melanocytes are destroyed, and the production of melanin, a dark brown to
black pigment that is found in the skin and is the reasoning for skin color, is simply just slowed
down. This results in hypopigmentation, which is the loss of skin color, but not a total loss. Other
skin diseases, such as vitiligo, have a complete absence of melanin. The depigmented skin color of
someone with this disease is similar to that of one who suffers from albinism.
The destruction of melanocytes can have three major causes in people with vitiligo. The first being
that a patient with vitiligo has inherited three of the vitiligo genes, which has caused their
melanocytes to destruct. The second being that the melanocytes themselves are different in a
patient with vitiligo in relation to those without vitiligo. Melanocytes of a vitiligo patient compared
to a person without vitiligo require a meticulous cultural condition and are more unstable around
certain chemicals. The cells can even die when exposed to such factors. Vitiligo genes are
prevented from acting in a normal fashion when they are

The Research Design For A High Quality For Healthcare And...
Researches are always carried out with the purpose of answering questions that are there, to
ascertain a particular phenomenon or to prove a concept. Different researchers have different
reasons for carrying out their research and this is encourage because the knowledge that is gained
can be used by the others in improving that research or better understanding what the situation is.
This paper tries to look at what the researchers were after and at the same trying to see the
challenges they faced and their limitations. It basically tries to understand why the researchers
chose the research design that has been used in the research. Thesis What reasons did the
researchers have in carrying out this research and what significance does it have. The research
design that was chosen, what reasons are behind it being chosen? Did the researchers achieve their
objective? The researchers try to bring out the importance of having a high quality in healthcare
and social services and how it can be achieved. They acknowledge that various stakeholders are
involved in the development of a meaningful and significant of high quality in the fields of
healthcare and social services. They understand that policies are often developed without a
contextual understanding of how there can be an achievement in the development in provider
organizations, and frontline work, making policies difficult to implement. For this reason they look
into the role that is played by the third party intermediary

Netflix Is A Good Investment
Executive Summary This report analyzes the company Netflix to determine whether or not it
makes a good investment at this time. Netflix was founded in 1997 in California. The company
launched its website that same year, at the time the company was composed of only 30
employees and had close to 1000 DVD S available to rent. Netflix was one of the first company s
to offer rental DVD s on a monthly subscription basis rather than having to pay per DVD. The
year 2007 was a big year for Netflix and its first step toward its new business model. Netflix
moved away from renting DVD s and instead shifted to video on demand via the Internet. Today,
Netflix holds the spot as the world s top Internet television network; with almost fifty million
subscribers in close to fifty nations who enjoy hours of TV shows and movies every month.
(Netflix) A set of criteria is used to analyze Netflix and it is evaluated that Netflix is a good
investment especially due to its aggressive international expansion strategy. The idea that Netflix is
a good investment is determined by analyzing both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the firm.
These different factors allow one to have a strong understanding of the company s wellbeing. In the
qualitative analysis it is discovered that Netflix s Culture, History, and Strategy are attributes that
allow Netflix to differentiate itself from its competitors and gain a competitive advantage. Another
Qualitative aspect is Netflix s presence in terms of

Chesapeake Life History
Between 1813 and 1962, steamboats ruled the Chesapeake Bay, reflected in a fascinating and
important era, in which trade and travel were made more convenient with steamers that linked parts
of Maryland and Virginia, with distant and isolated rural communities along the Eastern Shore, in
particular, including Piankatank River and Occohannock Creek in Virginia, Hudson Creek off the
Little Choptank River in Maryland, Bushwood, and Rock Point It made possible access to certain
goods and services typically unavailable east of the Bay, along with opportunities for leisure and
entertainment.
There were various types of steamboats on the Chesapeake Bay, all serving a specific function. The
packet steamboats were the most common, were medium sized and fast, and transported
passengers, freight and domestic mail. The rural areas and the city were made accessible with a
large fleet of smaller vessels steam ferries, while excursion steamers or showboats were more
elaborate, colorful and beautifully decorated made drop offs at popular resorts on the Bay,
including Tolchester and Betterton in Kent County.

Examples Of Surveillance In George Orwell s 1984
Surveillance in George Orwell s 1984 is extreme, but there are some very real parallels to today s
life. Telescreens and hidden microphones are just a couple of examples of 1984 s controlling
technology. The ideas depicted by author George Orwell s dystopian society are becoming more
real every day. Telescreens were literally and thematically the biggest piece of surveillance
technology in 1984. They were large screens that took in as much information as they put out.
They were massive and could look over an entire room. A telescreen could record video of a person
and also record sound, transmitting the recordings presumably to thought police to be monitored.
They could hear anything above a soft whisper and they could see anything in

My Mother s Tongue by Amy Tan
In the personal essay My Mothers Tongue (1990), Amy Tan, widely known author explains her
insights on language and culture identity using details and memories from her own life
experiences. Tan conceals that the language in which her mother used with her was the language
that helped shape the way [she] saw things, expressed things, made sense of the world (1208) and
in the process it made her who she is today as an author. Tan illuminates the euro centricity of the
Master Narrativeby retelling stories of her mother being treated poorly because of her broken or
limited English. She recalls many past experiences where her mother suffered from bad service and
treatment from restaurants, stockbrokers, and even hospitals. Using examples from her personal
life Tan gets her point across about language and culturecharacteristics in order to show how
Chinese culture is affected by the master narrative and also encourages others to include a variety
of cultures in order to overcome bias opinions. Tan s apparent audience can be ranged from the
child of an immigrant to a doctor and offers an authentic and rich portrayal of Chinese history
through her conflicting experience of her Chinese and American cultures.

To His Coy Mistress Rhetorical Analysis
In the 1600 s when Andrew Marvell was alive, the estimated life expectancy was a lot shorter
than it is in the present. Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress is a dramatic monologue about not
having enough time in his life to enjoy his mistress. Even if he lived a longer life there would
never be enough time. The poem as a whole consists of forty six lines and is filled with imagery.
The images that are invoked by the narrator are in no way ordinary in their description. They
rouse compelling feelings of yearning and want. It also brings a persuasive feeling to the table.
The persuasiveness would not be as affective without the superb work of imagery used by Andrew
Marvell. The first two lines of the poem Had we but world enough, and time,/ This coyness, lady,
were no crime allows the reader to see into the mind of the narrator for a brief moment. He thinks
he is the victim of the Lady s reserved nature. He wants to persuade her to have sex with him
while using reverse psychology to prompt her to think it is her own fault for not doing it in the
first place. Instead of using phrases that give images of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The imagery in these lines goes to the narrator and mistress primal instincts and how they should
act on those. The word amorous means a person is more inclined to sexual love. It is in this line
that we really see the lust the narrator has for the mistress. He just doesn t understand that this
woman will not give up her virginity for him even though her time is running out. They should not
hold back the emotion between them while they have the time to do so. At every pore with instant
fires,/ Now let us sport us while we may (36 37) this lines imagery refers back to the dust and ashes
in the second stanza. The question arises that the fire burning within them could ultimately lead to
the death of both the narrator and mistress in the

Bailiff Research Paper
A Bailiff or a court official, would never have a boring day on the job. They do require a decent
education to better their chances of finding a job. The education requirements vary depending
on employer, jurisdiction and state. Most of the training is on the job and do not absolutely
require a degree. To become a bailiff you need to be aware of local laws, have self defence, first
aid certification, and know how to handle weapons (Career Cruising, 2018). However, having
some kind of criminal justice or law enforcement background education will significantly help.
Michigan s top law enforcement and criminal justice schools include Lake Superior State

the part of the country they work in. In the local courts they can make about $38,000 a year and
in the state courts they can make an upward of $68,000. In Michigan at entry of the career they
may receive $33,200 annually which is $15.96 an hour. As an experienced bailiff they can make
$41,210 or $19.81 per hour in Michigan (Career Cruising, 2018). A court official has many duties
that they are responsible to carry out. A typical bailiff works around a 40 hour week including
some evenings and weekends, they also must be dressed in uniform (Career Cruising, 2018). They
must wear uniforms so that they can be identified by the public and the court. Tasks they must
perform include checking for weapons in the court, stand guard when court is in session, transport
prisoners, announce the judge, swear in witnesses and can even handle evidence and court
documents (Career Cruising, 2018). This occupation can be very dangerous and tedious therefore,
some injuries can happen such as getting hurt in an arrest

Comparison Of George Washington And Simon Bolivar
George Washington and Simon Bolivar both played very important roles in achieving independence
for their counties. George Washington was the political and military leader of the United States,
while Simon Bolivar Was the political and military leader for parts of Latin America. They were
both recognized as great leaders, and because of the impact they left, they now both have
monuments, holidays, exhibits, currency, and many other things showing their significance. The
main difference between the two is how and what they did to accomplish this bold movement.

Definition Of A Comedy
Comedy to me is something that you see or hear that makes people laugh. What I find funny are
impersonations, things that are expected or sarcastic jokes. Impersonations can mean the way
someone talks, walks or acts. I personally find some accents to be hilarious and if someone
imitates the accent, it will just crack me up., If its someone famous that everyone knows and if that
person talks funny or walks funny, then it will cause other people to laugh because they know its
true. An expected jokeis when, someone tells a joke but you already know how its going to end
so you start laughing before the joker finishes the joke. Sarcasm is probably the best jokes to me.

For example, I love watching Steve Harvey and Kevin Hart. As long as I m watching, I just cant
stop laughing. While I can relate to what the joke is about say for instance, the look mama gives
you in church when you talking through service . Without having to mimic the look on her face,
I already know because I can relate to that. A person who cannot relate to this would probably
not find it funny because they don t realize what so funny about it. Even if the person could
relate, they may think that the joke is disrespectful especially if they were the subject being joked
about. In this case it would be the mothers. The thing I love about my two favorite comedians is
the way the tell the joke. They don t just tell jokes, they put on a whole show by the way they talk,
act and laugh.
I have never heard of funny bone so I looked it up. Its actually an nerve called the ulna nerve

The major war, at the Bronze Age, end of thirteenth century is described in the epic Iliad by
Homer that underlines suffering as a major theme as the effect of battles. It happened in the city
of Troy due to avenge the abduction of Helen, daughter of Zeus and wife of one of the Greek
kings, by a Trojan prince. Many characters in the epic go through a lot of suffering. Achilles, king of

Appeasement In The 1930s
The British and French policy of appeasement in the 1930s towards Adolf Hitler and Germany is
historically viewed as a feeble attempt to avoid war. In their essay, Wishful Thinking or Buying
Time? The Logic of British Appeasement in the 1930s, Norrin M. Rispsman and Jack S. Levy
analyze appeasement purely as a tool of statecraft, and not under what circumstances appeasement
can be a successful policy. They argue that appeasement is not only used to reduce the possibility
of war with an adversary, but it can be used to conserve resources against a more immediate threat,
isolate an adversary, or to buy off time to build up a deterrence against that adversary (151).
Delving beyond the typology of appeasement, they analyze historical British documents... Show

Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin and his cabinet realized that Germany s military could severely
damage Britain s economic position, and that Britain did not have the financial reserves for an
immediate rearmament program that was not implemented over time (168). Also, Chamberlin s
government recognized the threats posed by Japan and Italy as well, and realized that they needed
to potentially safeguard British interests from simultaneous attacks (168). While Chamberlin later
would prioritize rearmament over other factors as the German threat grew, it furthers the authors
point of appeasement not being a naГЇve strategy, but one based on a logical understanding of
Britian towards its circumstances, and trying to make those circumstances favorable. Of course,
this chain of historical events all led to the famous Munich conference. There, Ripsman and Levy
argue that Chamberlin advocated for concessions with the hopes of speeding up Britain s
rearmament program and securing a common front with Italy to balance against Germany (174). In
addition, they also argue that Chamberlin recognized that his policy of appeasement was bound to
fail, but it was the best option for stopping a destructive war in a foolish attempt to save
Czechoslovakia when Britian was unprepared

What Are The Effects Of Argumentative Essay On Child Soldiers
In multiple developing countries right now, there are ongoing wars. These battles are greatly
affecting the local communities, but especially the children. Extremist or terrorist groups are
forcing these children to fight for them. The majority of child soldiers are given no choice whether
or not they desire to fight. Therefore, as long as these children show remorse for their actions and
are mentally stable, they should be granted amnesty. Many child soldiers are drugged before going
into battle, and threatened to avoid them running away. If imprisoning them wasn t inhumane

If a child can not comprehend the idea of death yet, then why would they be able to comprehend
how awful it was to murder someone? This is an advantage for those who desire to use them as
soldiers, but a great disadvantage for the children themselves, or anyone who gets in their way.
Fortunately, many governments have argued that, If a child under the age of 15 is too young to
fight, then he or she must also be considered too young to be held criminally responsible...
(Johannesburg, paragraph 6). This rule of thumb protects those who truly don t yet understand the
terrible things that they ve done and can t be trusted to make large decisions for themselves.
However, no matter how many children are freed, there are always more to use. These soldiers are
so effective because of many factors, but mainly because children are much more easy to
manipulate than adults. Said by Ishmael Beah himself, Everybody asks why do they go after
children? Because you can easily manipulate them, (Barnett, paragraph 19). Even if, miraculously,
all child soldiers were set free, they would still be targeted, which is why they need to be granted
amnesty. After all, why train a new soldier when you can just as easily reclaim an old

The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty
Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death
penalty for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay
the same throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their
group split in to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public
executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and
finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history.
The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It
leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on
the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crimeto deserve the
sentence. It takes removes this mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not
have a consequence for the actions they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard,
holding the public to a line they know not to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in
the prisonsystem would decrease. This will also free up taxpayers money for other things like
education, medical, security, and paying off the national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to
the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances of the victim. This type of execution would give
everyone the benefit of seeing

The French Republic Of France
The French Republic of France is located in Western Europe. It s history dates back as far as Julius
Caesar and the Romans. One could easily write a lengthy paper simply addressing the history of
France. Just looking at the last 5 centuries for France alone, one could fill books with the
information. Between the wars of Religion in the late 15th century, the Enlightenment and Reign of
Napoleon during the 18th Century, and the World Wars of the 19th century, France
has experienced
monumental changes becoming the country that it is today. France as it is known today did not
adopt its current constitution until 1958. The government of France is a unitary semi presidential
constitutional republic. This governmental system is very similar to that of the United States the
only difference being the existence of a Prime Minister and a Cabinet which both compliment the
President. Other parliamentary systems such as India, Japan merely elects a President as more of
ceremonial head of State. However the French President actually works with some power (Hou,
Stephen). The President is the head of the armed forces and actually has control over France s
nuclear deterrents. The president is also in charge of selecting the nine members of France s
constitutional council, which then decide the constitutionality of some laws (The Local). The
Prime Minister is more so in charge of determining policy and general direction that the country

her father, Sarwar, asking, Has it been done? and while speaking about killing, he said, If
women need help, they should get help from their family members, uncles, brother. This is the
best way they should not go out of the family. It is very embarrassing for the family (Associated

Medine Memi was brutally murdered by family members for talking to boys (Kiener). She
simply was socializing with fellow classmates outside of her school. Being raised with
traditional values, Medine was not allowed to socialize with any males outside of her family.
Her family ultimately killed her to restore honor because other people witnessed what she had
done. Her body was found in a hole under a chicken coop with her hands bound (Kiener). Her

Classic Greek Philosophy
The downfall of Greece s Mycenaean period was thought to have begun from internal civil turmoils
that led to an unstable government. The weakened government left the country vulnerable to
foreign mariners who took advantage, invaded, and destroyed much of the country.
2. Describe Classic Greek Philosophy.
Classic Greek Philosophy is largely based on the ideologies of Socrates and those who supported
and added on to his ideas, such as Plato and Aristotle. Rather than believing that the world was
created by one or many gods, Socrates and other Greeks relied on observable evidence, scientific
reasoning, and realistic thoughts to explain the natural processes of the world.
3. What was the social organization of the Hellenistic Kingdoms?
During the Hellenistic period, Greek culture was widespread across the Mediterranean. After the
death of Alexander the Great, the Hellenistic empire broke up into kingdoms and were ruled by
kings. The Hellenistic kingdoms retained much of the Greek s philosophy, science, literature, and
art. The kingdoms administered cosmopolitan societies, interacted frequently with people from
Greece to India, and integrated the economies and societies of far away regions by facilitating trade.
1. Identify and Explain the differences between Classical Greek Philosophy and Hellenistic
Philosophy? (1/3)
Hellenistic philosophers believed that a single god ruled the entire universe, whereas Greek
philosophers believed that gods did not attribute to the

Our slogan reflects our difference because while most establishments offer healthy choices on
their menu, our entire menu is researched to be a healthy choice. There are three ways a
customer can purchase food. They may sit down at one of the 68 seats in the dining room and
get full service from a waitperson. A separate take out counter services those who wish to pick up
their food. Most take out food is prepared to order with orders coming from the telephone.

Costco Wholesale Corporation And Macy s, Inc.
Introduction
As a junior at San Jose State University, I have a little over a year to figure out plans for my
future career before my educational career comes to an end. Being a student of accounting, there
is an overwhelmingly large variety of companies at which I could work. This paper will allow me
to narrow down these companies by place importance on my own preferences for a company. This
will be done by analyzing and evaluating two firms relevant to my degree. Based on criteria I have
selected, including but not limited to company size and geographic features, culture and values,
company successes, employee benefits, and social responsibility, as well as a situational analysis of
current external and internal trends, I will focus my research on Costco Wholesale Corporation and
Macy s, Inc..
After researching the backgrounds and company profiles of Costco Wholesale and Macy s, I
learned about their current products and services as well as an analysis of their strengths,
weaknesses, threats, and opportunities. I utilized resources that included each company s
corporate websites, company profiles and SWOT analyses from electronic databases, and other
reputable online sources. This information, which will be synthesized within the rest of this paper,
has better allowed me to make a decision over which company is right for me. Between the two
companies, I have found that ???? meets my needs more so than ??? as an ideal workplace.
However, neither of the companies meet a

Metaphors Of A Magnifico By Wallace Stevens Essay
Modernist poetry is too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message. Do you
agree?
Modernist poetry is not too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message
because it depends on the readers how they read it or analysis it. If the readers read the poem
carefully and think afar, then the poem conveys meaningful social and political messages.
However, the poem Metaphors of a Magnifico by Wallace Stevens convey both social and
political messages where the social message that he conveys to the reader is to work in group
rather than working individual in the society and the political message that the poet conveys to the
readers is that in order to write a book or poem, the author or the poet needs to borrow the ... Show

The beginning of the poem visibly tells us the social meaning that the poet conveys to the
readers. The line from the text Twenty men crossing a bridge, into a village, Are twenty men
crossing twenty bridges, into twenty villages (Harmonium, 1923) visibly tell us that the poet is
trying to convey the readers that in order to have a good and better community, the people in the
community have to work together. The line from the text Or one man crossing a single bridge into
a village (Harmonium, 1923) informs the readers that the ideas of twenty people are better
compared to idea of a single person. The poet uses the tone of numerical exactness in order to
confuse the readers but if the readers read the poem carefully than the readers will get the idea of
the poem where the poet is comparing single man with twenty men. The line from the text This

The Issue Of Problem Gambling
Introduction to the policy you have chosen and why that policy is important

This paper will explore the issue of problem gambling, specifically focusing on problem gambling as
a major issue in Australian society. It will also compare Australian gambling institutions with other
international gambling institutions including Las Vegas and, more importantly, Macau.
Gambling can be defined as an activity involving a participant who allows for something of value
or money to be put at risk. This includes playing poker machines, online games that risk the loss of
money, cards, casino games, as well as placing bets on sporting events, and purchasing lottery
tickets (Beyond Blue, 2010). Gambling is currently a very prominent issue in Australia ... Show

Gambling problems can create major financial problems, impact negatively on one s family and
other relationships, cause mental health issues such as depression and anxiety due to addiction, and
establish exposure of national and international serious organised crime through VIP high rollers
that come to Australia to gamble (Besser and Richard, 2014). Therefore it is mandatory for policy
regulations to be implemented by Australian federal and state governments with the cooperation of
gambling establishments in order to assist in combatting the serious issue of gambling in Australia.
Historical background to the issue and any historical precedents to current policy
Problem gambling is not a new issue and has occurred throughout the course of history. Gambling
has been obvious problem in the Australian community since the arrival of the first fleet
(Australian Government, 1999). Over time, more and more people have taken up the addictive
activity of gambling that becomes a large problem for many individuals over time. Since the
advancement of technology in society, it has created a great impact on problem gambling. For
instance, the widespread use of smart phones and tablets with high tech capabilities has allowed
for owners to download games such as poker and play from anywhere at anytime they wish. These

Fighting for Our Lives Essay
Fighting for Our Lives offers great insight into the current state of public dialogue. Deborah
Tannen describes how our public interactions have increasingly become warlike , in the way we
discuss ideas, the way we cover the news, and the way we settle disputes. She observes that an
adversarial approach has become the standard as much in public dialogue as it has in just about
anything we need to accomplish . Although she concedes that conflict and opposition are as
necessary as cooperation and agreement , she believes that the balance has been tipped in recent
years. An argument culture has pervaded American culture, and the consequences are real.

Washington may think that saying anything about the other side, no matter how false, is just part of
the game. But it is precisely such politics that has stopped either party from helping the American
people. Worse yet, it is sowing further division among our citizens and further distrust in our
government.
It is clear that right fighting can have especially serious consequences in the public sector. At best, it
makes it difficult to respect our leadership; at worst, it can debilitate our government.
The argument culture is also pervasive in news and talk shows. Think Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh,
or even Jerry Springer. Rush Limbaugh has been so successful in criticizing and attacking, well,
any person, policy or point of view that is not right , that he s been called the de facto leader of the
Republican Party . While the driving force behind Limbaugh (and other personalities like him) is
ostensibly based on differences in principle and ideology, I am inclined to suspect that it has more
to do with power, fame, personal pride, and even money.
So, why are Americans so hell bent to be right? American society is inherently competitive. We
are socialized to believe in polarity. Our moral system tells us that there is always RIGHT and
WRONG. The stories we are told from the time we are children, and the books and movies we
consume as adults

Schenck V United States Case Brief
Schenck v United States (1919)
Facts:
During WWI Schenck mailed circulars to the people drafted. The circulars encourage the draftees
that war is wrong and that they should not go.
Schenck was charged for his obstruction of recruitment due to the Conspiracy Act. He sued, saying
that his First Amendment free speech was violated.
Issue:
Are Schenck s actions (words, expression) protected by the free speech clause of the First
Amendment?
Decision of the court:
The Court ruled (9 0) and upheld Schenck s conviction stating that the Espionage Act limited
people s speech especially during war time.
Reasoning:
Justice Holmes delivered the majority opinion declaring that a person s speech can be limited if

The court stated the arm bands were a sign of symbolic speech and that students have the right of
exercising this kind of expression in schools. They also stated that in order to suppress symbolic
speeches, school officials must have a valid reason such as the disturbance of that symbolic speech
to the education of others. Since the black arm band was used to express the feelings of the
students, the school was incorrect for the suspension of those students who participated.
Significance: The case Tinker v Des Moines broadens the interpretation of student s First

The Value Of Filial Piety
Culture: I applied symbolic interactionism. As one of the oldest countries in the world, China dates
back to ten thousand years. With more than five thousand years of traditional culture, China has a
formal set of values, beliefs, customs, language, etc., which have been passed generations.
Confucianism is the most influential philosophy guiding Chinese people living in different
centuries. The Confucian based values including harmony, filial piety, and obligation help shape my
personality. The value of harmony: Confucianism emphasizes the importance of building
harmonious relationships with others to make the society stable (Kaplan). It means that in every
relationship, people should show benevolence, righteousness, loyalty, and humility. These values
profoundly influence Chinese people including my family members. Husband and wife, parents
and children, and friend and friend only maintain a harmonious relationship, they could make a
stable society. The value of filial piety: Chinese society is characterized by patriarchy and
hierarchy. Elders make the most decisions. Confucianism advocates people to show respect and
compliance for elders. Most of the Chinese people treat filial piety as the most important traditional
value. It requires the younger generation to follow the elders words without a doubt. If a kid
disputes with his/her parents, he/she shows unrespect for the parents. The value of obligation: Each

Nietzsche s View On The Genealogy Of Morals
According to Nietzsche s assertions in the first two essays of On the Genealogy of Morals,
human beings suffer because they have lost the ability to enjoy life to its fullest extent. A
significant shift in morals occurred from the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who carried
out good deeds with a surplus of energy simply because they could afford to do so, to the
predominantly Judeo Christian era of self repression. This transition demonstrates a decline in our
ability to make sense of our lives and understand our true humanpurpose. Nietzsche suggests that
we have become out of touch with the truth we are no longer present in our lives. He urges us to
recognize the social constraints to which we sometimes unknowingly submit... Show more content

Clearly the Greeks fully embraced life, allowing themselves to feel and express a spectrum of
human emotions. One of the reasons Nietzsche so highly values the Greeks is because while they
understood that life is essentially, and inevitably painful, they still had the strength to affirm it and
act decisively, even horribly (Gemes, ch.12). This is Nietzsche s ideal affirmation of life.
The Judeo Christian mindset, on the other hand, differs in that it inspires self repression of
natural human instincts, leading to suffering in the name of a divine force called God. They are
miserable says Nietzsche, but they tell me their misery is a sign of being chosen by God (BWE,
135). Christianity and the church were major foundations of European society in the Middle
Ages when life was particularly difficult due to the plague, low standards of hygiene, and poor
quality of education. Given such horrible conditions, the possibility of an afterlife seemed quite
attractive. Christians were therefore consoled for all their earthly suffering by the fantasy of an
afterlife, so called The Kingdom of God (BWE, 137). They found a way to rationalize and justify
suffering, therefore experiencing it with acceptance and joy. The idea was that if a person lived a
pious earthly life, they would be rewarded with a more

he worked om the multiplex telegraph a machine that would send and receive more than one signal

Throughout the two movies, Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington used both language and
stylistic features to present the idea of a personal journey, in particular, through the use of
symbolism. In the film, Antwone fisher, Washington uses a symbol of women. The beginning of
the film shows how Antwone was mistreated and abused as a child through flashbacks. In this
case the symbol of women is used to symbolise worthlessness and insignificance as he is abused
and beaten by his foster mother and raped by his foster sister. As the film progresses Antwon

Later as his maths skills become more and more evident to the professor, will is offered job

symbolises a personal journey for will as maths opens a brighter more secure future.
By using symbolism as a stylistic feature Gus Van Santand Denzel Washington are able to
successfully present the idea of a personal journey to their intended audiences.
Social language
Both Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington successfully use language to present the idea of the
journey in their films however each one uses a different form of language. In Antwone Fisher,
Antwone uses body language or violence to shut people out and create a shield between his
emotions and the outside world, protecting people from getting to him and hurting him. When
Antwone starts seeing a councillor he learns to talk about his feelings and learns to deal with his
anger without violence. In the end of the film Antwone is a different man. He is calm and much
more happier and open as he has learnt to open up about his feelings and deal with emotions in a
constructive way. He learns to talk to people rather than just turning to violence to solve his issues.
This shows a social journey as Antwone learns to talk to people about how he feels rather than
putting up a wall and using violence to shut people out.

Auteur Theory, By Francois Truffaut
In the year 1954, Francois Truffaut wrote that French cinema was suffering from a tradition of
quality, referring to the fact that films were not implementing one s artistic integrity, but instead
being made specifically for festivals (Staples). Traffaut wanted something to be done to fix this, and
soon he created the auteur theory. Auteur Theory is the theory that the auteur, French for author, is
the person that brings a filmto life and uses the film to express their thoughts and feelings about the
subject matter. The theory is that the auteur of a film would be a film s director. The director can

anyone that was behind the production of a film. There is a small group of directors I would
consider sole auteurs of their movies, such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin

Occupational Therapy, Health and Wellbeing
The occupational therapy perspective of occupation, health and wellbeing
To be able to participate in one s own life, to do the things we want to do, and to competently
perform the activities that form part of our daily, weekly or monthly routines, is a common goal
for most people. This not only includes taking part in the basic activities of self care, such as
grooming and dressing, but also extends to our work and leisure activities. It is through doing
things that we learn and develop as human beings. The occupational therapy profession believes
that being prevented or hindered in some way from participating in the activities that are important
to us could adversely affect our health and wellbeing.
Health is a complex term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of occupational balance can also be seen in older adulthood when, as a result of age,
people lose their roles in life through being unable to perform the activities that make up that role.
With the passing of time no longer taken up by meaningful activities these individuals become
bored and ultimately depressed, quickly losing their sense of well being. In the World Health
Organisation s Charter for Health Promotion, it suggests that in order to achieve the state of
complete health it describes in its definition, it is necessary for individuals to be able to satisfy
their basic needs, realise and achieve their goals, and cope within the changing world around them
(Townsend and Polatajko, 2007).
Since these things are achieved through occupation, through doing things, the close link between
health and occupation becomes clear (Wilcock, 2001). From an occupational perspective, doing
things provides a sense of purpose and fulfilment and leads to a sense of well being (Crepeau et al,
2009).
This link between occupation, health and well being (i.e. the fact that people are occupational by
nature and that engagement in meaningful occupation is essential to health) forms part of the core
beliefs and values the philosophy of the occupational therapy (OT) profession (Kramer et al, 2003).
OT has its foundations in both philosophy and science, but unlike other medical professions, it was

Sandburg is too interested in the half tones of humanity, the highlights of humor, the terse
queerness. He is interested in atmosphere....The new sapience, it seems to me, is what Sandburg
fails to show. (clc 35,347) Now, on the other hand Amy Lowell, another critic, has a complete
opposite view on the poem s by Carl Sandburg. The seeing eye Mr. Sandburg has it to a superlative
degree, and wedded to it, an imaginative utterance which owes nothing whatever to literature or
tradition. It is a fascinating and baffling study this of examining how Mr. Sandburg does it....It is,
more than anything else, the sharp, surprising rightness of his descriptions which gives Mr.
Sandburg his high position in the poetry of today. (clc 35,341) These critics views are on the
extreme opposite sides of the scale.
Benet feels Sandburg s poetry is uncohesive, unstructured, and just not sapient.
While Lowell feels his poetry is imaginative and fascinating, along with baffling. If Sandburg
were alive to read the analysis of his poetry by the critics, he probably would have writing a poem
about it. It would have fascinated him, how two people could have such opposite views. In The
People,
Yes, a large percentage of the poem is based on the different views and values of people in our
society. Chicago is another one of Carl Sandburg s well known poem s,

The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Child Abuse
The United States has been fighting the war against child abuse since the first case of child
abuse in 1874 that included a child being beaten and chained against her will (Meadows, 2014).
Many people hear the words child abuse and think of physical abuse. While, many people are
correct in thinking of physical abuse, an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study done by the
CDC shows that although physical abuse is the leading form of child abuse, emotional or
psychological abuseis the second leading form of child abuse (2014). Although one would think
sexual abuse along with physical abuse would be the prominent form of abuse, this is not the
case. One of the major reasons emotional neglect is more prominent than sexual abuse is due to
the fact that emotional abuse is not being overlooked as often as it used to. In fact, it is now
being seen as the gateway to physical and sexual abuse (Garbarino, Guttman, Seeley, 1988). The
amounts of consequences that come from being abused as a child are countless as well as life
changing, some of these life changing effects were identified by the CDC as drug abuse, sexual
transmitted diseases, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty learning (2014). When a child who has been
abused begins school they approach the classroom setting, similar to a dog that has been abused by
its owner approaches other humans, the child approaches the classroom with a skeptical attitude
(Fink, A. H., Janssen, K. N, 1992). They are constantly avoiding

Character Analysis Of Simon In Lord Of The Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies a group of boys is trapped on a jungle island after a
horrific accident. During their time on this island, the boys struggle to fight against the
ferocious side of human nature in trying to avoid turning against each other. The character
Simon is introduced and is immediately portrayed as a kind, sensitive and logical boy. Living
on this island starts to have a negative effect on the boys and fights begin to break out over
leadership. The little boys speak of the beast , and the boys fear and paranoia causes them to
turn on each other and act similar to animals. Only Simon realizes that the beast is not real, and
that the only real beast on the island is the savageness of human nature. In realizing this and not
being affected by the influence of the beast, Simon shows he is more logical and is less savage
than the rest of the boys and he demonstrates that he does not belong on this godless island of
unthinking boys. When the boys first crash on the island, they attempt to maintain an illusion of
civilization with meetings and try to define roles in their miniature society. They elect Ralph as
their leader and build a signal fire in order to alert ships that they are trapped on the island.
Simon tries to maintain order and care for the little children on the island by feeding them and
protecting them from the older boys. Simon s appearance is described as a skinny, vivid little boy
(Lord of the Flies, page 16) and he is shown to

Stimulus Package Analysis
I m gonna give it to you now, once and for all, the secret behind the magic trick of how the
oligarchy selects who gets a pass and who will be fried by their MSM in the presidential
elections. I found it here, at The Brookings Institute, exactly where they rehearsed the trick on
Obama in 2008. How could I have missed it?! I went there in 2008 to show Obama s promises to
the elite. The magicians just make us look the other way, that s how they do it. And this is how it
goes.
You will see, among other things, how Sanders eases Wall Street s angst, how they will pay him
back for voting for the Stimulus Package: Sanders asks for the MSM support and WS is glad to
abide. Also, the Keystone Pipeline? He promises will not be a priority if he wins.
First: This is the Brookings presenting Sanders to its members and the select few from the MSM.
That means they had already vetted Sanders and found him kosher to be consumed by its group.
How did that happen, we don t know, it happened behind the closed golden doors of the owners of
humanity. What we DO know is that they fed the members a script to dispel any fears and to find
Sanders, not only a non threatening pinko , but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

all class wars, it is very lively, action packed, wehre the labor movement loses most of the time.
So, it is refreshing to have Sanders, who doesn t run away from a PARTICULAR part of that
tradition (that was very cryptic). And we all know how the lively class wars have influenced our
policies: Taft Hardly and other policies to restraint the working class

The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes Paid
Every year, thousands of student athletes across the world sign the NCAA s 08 3A Form, also
called the Student Athlete form, which waives their right to receive money for the use of their
name and image. Like many of us in this class, these college athletes devote their time to their
academics while spending additional hours with training and practices throughout the day and
receive no stipend in return. This 08 3A form defines college athletes as amateurs, who cannot
receive payment for playing their desired sport. While their schools and coaches may make
millions of dollars in salaries and endorsement deals and are the highest paid public employees in
many states due to their performances in their desired sport, these amateurs can never... Show more

A fair policy is one that treats every student the same. For example, The Butler School of Music at
the UT Austin has many student musicians who perform at the professional level and advises its
students on how to negotiate a contract and get paid for their performances according to the
website. Another example would be actress Emma Watson, who enrolled at Brown Universityin
Rhode Island, was able to work on the set of the Harry Potter movies while attending the school s
theatre department. Can you imagine Brown University officials telling Watson that she would
have to make the next two Harry Potter films for free instead of making five million dollars that
she was offered? ((Zimbalist). Compared to musicians and actors, student athletes have a greater
need to obtain money while they are still in college. Their professional careers are likely to be
much shorter due to the wearing and tearing of your body. Second, college may be the only time
some student athletes have the chance to take advantage of their success. Student athletes often
leave school with permanent injuries and no medical insurance or job prospects, whereas musicians
and actors rarely suffer career ending injuries on the job (Zimbalist). We see how musicians and
actors can profit from their talents so athletes should have the same

The Biology of Neanderthals
The purpose of this paper is to highlight some of the current results of testing of Neanderthal
fossils. By providing a comparison analysis of Homo sapiens to Homo neanderthalensis we can

Alabama always recruit the best of the best in each position. As of now, the Alabama Crimson
Tide has a true talent and crucial component to the team s output and that is the Sophomore
Quarterback, Jalen Hurts. Hurts can both throw and run the ball, offsetting the defense of the
opposing team. Jalen Hurts have agility and speed, and he seems unfazed from the pressure of
the opposing teams. His effectiveness affects the output of the entire offensive line and he has
shown that he is a top NFL prospect in such short time. The Tide also has top talented running
backs, that influence the offensive game. Alabama is more of a balanced team, in which if the
passing game was cut off by the opposing team, then the running backs could take the load off the
passing game and throw the defense off because of the balanced gameplay that is shown from the
Tide s offense. The Alabama Crimson Tide 2016 2017 season was a thing of beauty to watch as
Alabama had ongoing winning streak and when the world witnessed the Tide making the most non

Persian Gulf War
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Im (names) and this is our ignite talk on the Persian Gulf War.
The Persian Gulf War was between the United States and Iraq. It started August 2, 1990 and didn
t end until February 28, 1991. Iraq was ordered by their leader Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait
because they had to pay for 8 year war between them and Iran and they wanted to gain access to the
oil market. Which the only way to do this was accessing the Persian Gulf and Kuwait was the
easiest country to invade for them to do this. This brought immediate economic sanctions against
Iraq by members of the U.N. Security Council this was because Iraq violated U.N. sanctions. The

This earned the war the nickname the Video Game War after the daily broadcast of images from
cameras on board U.S. bombers during Operation Desert Storm.
There were two very important operations that took place during the Persian Gulf War. The first one
was called Operation Desert Shield . This was a U.S operational name for the buildup of U.S
forces in Saudi Arabia. To surround and contain Iraq s armed forces. This operation took place
from 2 August 1990, to 16 January 1991. The second operation was called Operation Desert
Storm . The U.S. name of the airland conflict from 17 January 1991, through 11 April 1991. This
was the attack on Iraq s armed forces. So basically the first operation was the setup and the second
operation was the attack.
The initial conflict to expel Iraqi troops from Kuwait began with an aerial and naval
bombardment on 17 January 1991, continuing for five weeks. This was followed by a ground
assault on 24 February. This was a decisive victory for the Coalition forces, who liberated Kuwait
and advanced into Iraqi territory. The Coalition ceased its advance, and declared a ceasefire 100
hours after the ground campaign started. Aerial and ground combat was confined to Iraq, Kuwait,
and areas on Saudi Arabia s border. Iraq launched Scud missiles against Coalition military targets in
Saudi Arabia and against

  • 2. Opera Buffa Social Structure Mozart composed three Italian opera buffa Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan tutte with Lorenzo Da Ponte s libretto. In the eighteenth century, the advent of Enlightenment in Europe changed the hierarchical social structure in European society. It brought great change to the women s lifestyle by allowing noblewomen to have equal power to men and to voice themselves. Also, peasant women changed their lifestyle by being treated more equally as men who were at the same social level. Mozart brought this social phenomenon to the operasince opera buffareflected how common people interacted with nobles and how men have started to respect women s opinions. Mozart demonstrated gendered social structure by using soubrette characters.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The maid views love as a power dynamic that requires women to offset their socially established disadvantage with cleverness. Despina believes that women learn to be unfaithful because men are that way . Despina, a lower class woman, believes women and men should be equally treated. It shows that in the era, women have an awareness of being equal to men. Also, I found that a maid s subordinate position was raised in the eighteenth century. When the Revolution occurred, the mainstream social class was lower class. If Despina was not just a character but an actual woman, she definitely would have participated in the revolution. Mozart s Opera buffa reflects the cultural and historical materials in the eighteenth century and shows the life of common people. In the eighteenth century, the Enlightenment aroused throughout Europe and this idea aimed for the general progress of humanity. The world was broken from the aristocratic society to the lower class. Public opinion promoted equality over hierarchy. Women took part in the revolution, and they improved their status in their family and society. They demanded a proper education thus literacy highly increased. With these influences, Soubrette characters in Mozart s opera buffa: Susanna, Zerlina and Despina have a mysterious power from the Enlightenment. He maintains the characters in the same class and he did not break the social structure. However, he presents equality between women and men. Women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Six Steps In Conflict Resolution Conflicts in intimate relationships subsist inevitable. Despite the degree to which individuals stand alike, differences in opinions and beliefs will transpire. This chapter taught me that it does not stand as the topic of disagreement that retains importance, but rather the way in which the couple resolves the conflict. According the text, six steps exist to aid in conflict resolution; The steps are: (1) clarifying the issue; (2) finding out what each person wants; (3) identifying various alternatives; (4) deciding how to negotiate; (5) solidifying agreements; and (6) reviewing and renegotiating (Olson, DeFrain, Skogrand, 2014, p. 154). Upon reading the descriptions and facts, I find these six steps to rest highly effective and imperative to conflict resolution. When a disagreement emerges, couples tend to play the blame game, ignore their parent s perspective, and explore for a quick solution. While it stands evident that these behaviors do not persist effective, these six steps provide a solution. Although I do find these six steps to exist accurate, I cannot guarantee how realistic they stand. Just as any other process, to remain realistic, the steps require two individuals who value their relationships and desire its continuation. This process requires individuals to not only voice their opinion, but also to clarify, identify, and negotiate this issue at hand. These steps will not occur with ease or speed, but they will sanction for the complete resolution of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Skin Disease Of Vitiligo I am going to be discussing a skin disease called vitiligo. This skin disease occurs when one s melanocytes, mature melanin forming cells, are ruined. Vitiligo is a disease that is not hard to recognize and can be found at several spots on the body. The most common places to find this disease would be on the hands, feet, around the mouth and eyes, and even around the genitalia. With some skindiseases, melanocytes are destroyed, and the production of melanin, a dark brown to black pigment that is found in the skin and is the reasoning for skin color, is simply just slowed down. This results in hypopigmentation, which is the loss of skin color, but not a total loss. Other skin diseases, such as vitiligo, have a complete absence of melanin. The depigmented skin color of someone with this disease is similar to that of one who suffers from albinism. The destruction of melanocytes can have three major causes in people with vitiligo. The first being that a patient with vitiligo has inherited three of the vitiligo genes, which has caused their melanocytes to destruct. The second being that the melanocytes themselves are different in a patient with vitiligo in relation to those without vitiligo. Melanocytes of a vitiligo patient compared to a person without vitiligo require a meticulous cultural condition and are more unstable around certain chemicals. The cells can even die when exposed to such factors. Vitiligo genes are prevented from acting in a normal fashion when they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chesapeake Life History Between 1813 and 1962, steamboats ruled the Chesapeake Bay, reflected in a fascinating and important era, in which trade and travel were made more convenient with steamers that linked parts of Maryland and Virginia, with distant and isolated rural communities along the Eastern Shore, in particular, including Piankatank River and Occohannock Creek in Virginia, Hudson Creek off the Little Choptank River in Maryland, Bushwood, and Rock Point It made possible access to certain goods and services typically unavailable east of the Bay, along with opportunities for leisure and entertainment. Telescreens and hidden microphones are just a couple of examples of 1984 s controlling technology. The ideas depicted by author George Orwell s dystopian society are becoming more real every day. Telescreens were literally and thematically the biggest piece of surveillance technology in 1984. They were large screens that took in as much information as they put out. They were massive and could look over an entire room. A telescreen could record video of a person and also record sound, transmitting the recordings presumably to thought police to be monitored. • 10. My Mother s Tongue by Amy Tan In the personal essay My Mothers Tongue (1990), Amy Tan, widely known author explains her insights on language and culture identity using details and memories from her own life experiences. Tan conceals that the language in which her mother used with her was the language that helped shape the way [she] saw things, expressed things, made sense of the world (1208) and in the process it made her who she is today as an author. Tan illuminates the euro centricity of the Master Narrativeby retelling stories of her mother being treated poorly because of her broken or limited English. She recalls many past experiences where her mother suffered from bad service and treatment from restaurants, stockbrokers, and even hospitals. Using examples from her personal life Tan gets her point across about language and culturecharacteristics in order to show how Chinese culture is affected by the master narrative and also encourages others to include a variety of cultures in order to overcome bias opinions. Tan s apparent audience can be ranged from the child of an immigrant to a doctor and offers an authentic and rich portrayal of Chinese history through her conflicting experience of her Chinese and American cultures. • 12. To His Coy Mistress Rhetorical Analysis In the 1600 s when Andrew Marvell was alive, the estimated life expectancy was a lot shorter than it is in the present. Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress is a dramatic monologue about not having enough time in his life to enjoy his mistress. Even if he lived a longer life there would never be enough time. The poem as a whole consists of forty six lines and is filled with imagery. The images that are invoked by the narrator are in no way ordinary in their description. They rouse compelling feelings of yearning and want. It also brings a persuasive feeling to the table. The persuasiveness would not be as affective without the superb work of imagery used by Andrew Marvell. The first two lines of the poem Had we but world enough, and time,/ This coyness, lady, were no crime allows the reader to see into the mind of the narrator for a brief moment. He thinks he is the victim of the Lady s reserved nature. He wants to persuade her to have sex with him while using reverse psychology to prompt her to think it is her own fault for not doing it in the first place. The education requirements vary depending on employer, jurisdiction and state. Most of the training is on the job and do not absolutely require a degree. To become a bailiff you need to be aware of local laws, have self defence, first aid certification, and know how to handle weapons (Career Cruising, 2018). • 18. Appeasement In The 1930s The British and French policy of appeasement in the 1930s towards Adolf Hitler and Germany is historically viewed as a feeble attempt to avoid war. In their essay, Wishful Thinking or Buying Time? The Logic of British Appeasement in the 1930s, Norrin M. Rispsman and Jack S. Levy analyze appeasement purely as a tool of statecraft, and not under what circumstances appeasement can be a successful policy. They argue that appeasement is not only used to reduce the possibility of war with an adversary, but it can be used to conserve resources against a more immediate threat, isolate an adversary, or to buy off time to build up a deterrence against that adversary (151). Delving beyond the typology of appeasement, they analyze historical British documents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin and his cabinet realized that Germany s military could severely damage Britain s economic position, and that Britain did not have the financial reserves for an immediate rearmament program that was not implemented over time (168). Also, Chamberlin s government recognized the threats posed by Japan and Italy as well, and realized that they needed to potentially safeguard British interests from simultaneous attacks (168). While Chamberlin later would prioritize rearmament over other factors as the German threat grew, it furthers the authors point of appeasement not being a naГЇve strategy, but one based on a logical understanding of Britian towards its circumstances, and trying to make those circumstances favorable. Of course, this chain of historical events all led to the famous Munich conference. There, Ripsman and Levy argue that Chamberlin advocated for concessions with the hopes of speeding up Britain s rearmament program and securing a common front with Italy to balance against Germany (174). In addition, they also argue that Chamberlin recognized that his policy of appeasement was bound to fail, but it was the best option for stopping a destructive war in a foolish attempt to save Czechoslovakia when Britian was unprepared ... These battles are greatly affecting the local communities, but especially the children. Extremist or terrorist groups are forcing these children to fight for them. The majority of child soldiers are given no choice whether or not they desire to fight. Therefore, as long as these children show remorse for their actions and are mentally stable, they should be granted amnesty. If a child can not comprehend the idea of death yet, then why would they be able to comprehend how awful it was to murder someone? This is an advantage for those who desire to use them as soldiers, but a great disadvantage for the children themselves, or anyone who gets in their way. Fortunately, many governments have argued that, If a child under the age of 15 is too young to fight, then he or she must also be considered too young to be held criminally responsible... (Johannesburg, paragraph 6). This rule of thumb protects those who truly don t yet understand the terrible things that they ve done and can t be trusted to make large decisions for themselves. Public executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history. The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crimeto deserve the sentence. It takes removes this mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not have a consequence for the actions they take. Between the wars of Religion in the late 15th century, the Enlightenment and Reign of Napoleon during the 18th Century, and the World Wars of the 19th century, France has experienced monumental changes becoming the country that it is today. France as it is known today did not adopt its current constitution until 1958. The government of France is a unitary semi presidential constitutional republic. This governmental system is very similar to that of the United States the only difference being the existence of a Prime Minister and a Cabinet which both compliment the President. Other parliamentary systems such as India, Japan merely elects a President as more of ceremonial head of State. However the French President actually works with some power (Hou, Stephen). The President is the head of the armed forces and actually has control over France s nuclear deterrents. She observes that an adversarial approach has become the standard as much in public dialogue as it has in just about anything we need to accomplish . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Washington may think that saying anything about the other side, no matter how false, is just part of the game. But it is precisely such politics that has stopped either party from helping the American people. Worse yet, it is sowing further division among our citizens and further distrust in our government. It is clear that right fighting can have especially serious consequences in the public sector. At best, it makes it difficult to respect our leadership; at worst, it can debilitate our government. The argument culture is also pervasive in news and talk shows. Think Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, or even Jerry Springer. Rush Limbaugh has been so successful in criticizing and attacking, well, any person, policy or point of view that is not right , that he s been called the de facto leader of the Republican Party . While the driving force behind Limbaugh (and other personalities like him) is ostensibly based on differences in principle and ideology, I am inclined to suspect that it has more to do with power, fame, personal pride, and even money. One of the reasons Nietzsche so highly values the Greeks is because while they understood that life is essentially, and inevitably painful, they still had the strength to affirm it and act decisively, even horribly (Gemes, ch.12). This is Nietzsche s ideal affirmation of life. The Judeo Christian mindset, on the other hand, differs in that it inspires self repression of natural human instincts, leading to suffering in the name of a divine force called God. Auteur Theory, By Francois Truffaut In the year 1954, Francois Truffaut wrote that French cinema was suffering from a tradition of quality, referring to the fact that films were not implementing one s artistic integrity, but instead being made specifically for festivals (Staples). Traffaut wanted something to be done to fix this, and soon he created the auteur theory. Auteur Theory is the theory that the auteur, French for author, is the person that brings a filmto life and uses the film to express their thoughts and feelings about the subject matter. The theory is that the auteur of a film would be a film s director. The director can use sound, lighting, camerawork, mise en scene and editing to create their vision. There is a small group of directors I would consider sole auteurs of their movies, such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino. Occupational Therapy, Health and Wellbeing The occupational therapy perspective of occupation, health and wellbeing To be able to participate in one s own life, to do the things we want to do, and to competently perform the activities that form part of our daily, weekly or monthly routines, is a common goal for most people. This not only includes taking part in the basic activities of self care, such as grooming and dressing, but also extends to our work and leisure activities. It is through doing things that we learn and develop as human beings. The occupational therapy profession believes that being prevented or hindered in some way from participating in the activities that are important to us could adversely affect our health and wellbeing. The idea of occupational balance can also be seen in older adulthood when, as a result of age, people lose their roles in life through being unable to perform the activities that make up that role. With the passing of time no longer taken up by meaningful activities these individuals become bored and ultimately depressed, quickly losing their sense of well being. In the World Health Organisation s Charter for Health Promotion, it suggests that in order to achieve the state of complete health it describes in its definition, it is necessary for individuals to be able to satisfy their basic needs, realise and achieve their goals, and cope within the changing world around them (Townsend and Polatajko, 2007). Since these things are achieved through occupation, through doing things, the close link between health and occupation becomes clear (Wilcock, 2001). From an occupational perspective, doing things provides a sense of purpose and fulfilment and leads to a sense of well being (Crepeau et al, 2009). This link between occupation, health and well being (i.e. the fact that people are occupational by nature and that engagement in meaningful occupation is essential to health) forms part of the core beliefs and values the philosophy of the occupational therapy (OT) profession (Kramer et al, 2003). • 43. The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Child Abuse The United States has been fighting the war against child abuse since the first case of child abuse in 1874 that included a child being beaten and chained against her will (Meadows, 2014). Many people hear the words child abuse and think of physical abuse. While, many people are correct in thinking of physical abuse, an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study done by the CDC shows that although physical abuse is the leading form of child abuse, emotional or psychological abuseis the second leading form of child abuse (2014). Although one would think sexual abuse along with physical abuse would be the prominent form of abuse, this is not the case. One of the major reasons emotional neglect is more prominent than sexual abuse is due to the fact that emotional abuse is not being overlooked as often as it used to. In fact, it is now being seen as the gateway to physical and sexual abuse (Garbarino, Guttman, Seeley, 1988). The amounts of consequences that come from being abused as a child are countless as well as life changing, some of these life changing effects were identified by the CDC as drug abuse, sexual transmitted diseases, suicidal thoughts, and difficulty learning (2014). When a child who has been abused begins school they approach the classroom setting, similar to a dog that has been abused by its owner approaches other humans, the child approaches the classroom with a skeptical attitude (Fink, A.
