Characteristics of Mobile Learning

    1- Portability and mobility:
When we say something is (portable) that means it can be moved
and carried easily . Device portability depends on some physical
features of the device such as : size , weight and the number of the
latest technological applications provided in the construction of the
          device. As a result ,
a- Learners can access stored information anytime anywhere.
b- Learning resources move with learners . In other words , data
and information via mobile devices is portable and moveable.
    2- Wireless networking :
Is one of the most significant features of mobile learning . So ,
most of the problems related to the internet connection will be
avoided. Surely, this characteristic makes the process of learning
          vital and flexible .
    3- Interactivity :
In mobile learning , interaction is related to three aspects :
a- The educational cognitive environment :
Mobile learning provides an enhanced educational
environment in which distant learners can interact with the
instructor, materiel of the course ,physical and virtual
              environment and with each other.
          b- Learners :
Mobile learning is interactive because learners direct the
process of learning . They don’t sit passively waiting for
someone to provide them with data or the information . O n the
contrary , they are independent and create their data themselves
              c- skillful aspect :
Mobile learning enables learners interact using the latest
applications and some additional tools such as : a text
messaging , mobile internet access and voice communication .
( all through wireless network) .
4- The ability to access a variety of materials from anywhere at any
time can provide multiple cues for comprehension and retention.

1
5- Mobile learning is private :
This does not mean that information cannot be shared with others , or
that the data is accessed only to you .It means only one person at a
time usually has to access to the mobile device and that you may
access the data you want independently from other learners.
6- Mobile learning is spontaneous , not planned , flexible.
7- It is characterized with immediacy .The data must imply instant
information ( we need quick answers for specific questions , such as :
         definitions , formula or equations).
8- The data which is delivered via mobile devices is characterized with
significant high- quality images, pictures, voice and diagrams.
9- Mobile learning is a combination of electronic learning and distance
         learning .
10- Mobile learning devices are available and they are accordant with
different economic states of the learners because everyone can get the
device which suits his economic state.

                              With my best wishes ,
                            Ahlam Al-Ahmadi
