Audiovisual Technologies by: Yelena Pototskaya Chapter 9
About the chapter?! This chapter is mostly about the technology based resources that teachers should explore and be familiar with to better assist their learners. With the help of technology learners will have the chance to learn though the way they fill most comfortable with.
Incorporating Audio media … Audio media could be effective in teaching and learning. So it is important to be aware of audio technology out there !!! Audio media I learned about in this chapter: Audiocassettes ~ talking books and multimedia kits; Broadcast Audio ~ radio; Optical Media ~ CD’s; Internet Audio ~MP3 files..
Visual Technologies For learners to better comprehend the lesson, not only audio technology will be needed, but also visual technology. The 3 components of visual design are Visual elements ~ graphics, symbols, real objects, and organizational visuals. Text elements ~ all expects of textual presentation. Affective elements ~ a response from the viewer.
There are two categories of visuals. Nonprojected visuals- do not require projection for display and include real objects, models, printed materials, boards and photographs… Projected visuals – require projection though specialized equipments and screen. Overhead projectors- displays teacher’s made transparencies; Digital projectors- displays software or Internet; and Document cameras- captures video images, real time 3-D objects. In Teaching and Learning
Teaching and Learning Motion video has a significant affect in classrooms. So it is important to know what and how it should be incorporated in a classroom. Digital camera could be used to record speeches in my own classroom. Live cams can be used to view historical sites for a specific writing assignment.
The information I learned from this chapter was very important and useful. For example the text provided with many tips and hits for teaching. It is the teacher’s responsibility to follow guide lines for effective visual design, choosing the best video and audio media to support the lesson. I want my future classroom to go smoothly, so I will use what I learned to set up my classroom for a good educational experience.
