A pumping test is a field experiment in which a well is pumped at a controlled rate and water-level response (drawdown) is measured in one or more surrounding observation wells and optionally in the pumped well (control well) itself; response data from pumping tests are used to estimate the hydraulic properties of aquifers, evaluate well performance and identify aquifer boundaries.

Over the last decade, demand for spring management has increased as traditional spring sources have started drying up or becoming contaminated. In response, communities, NGOs and state agencies began dedicated spring protection programmes. In the Himalayas, the State of Sikkim and organizations such as Central Himalayan Action and Research Group (CHIRAG) and People Science Institute (PSI) started identifying and protecting spring recharge areas around 2007. The difference between these programmes and many other previous efforts is that they went beyond supply-side improvements to focus on the use of hydrogeology to map springsheds for targeted interventions.
The Advanced Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM), a research and capacity-building organization comprised of hydrogeologists and other experts began lending their expertise and building capacity of stakeholders. ACWADAM provides technical support, training and materials in hydrogeology to all network partners as well as others in India and the region. Similar programmes began independently in most of the mountain regions of India. Arghyam, a funding organization that was supporting many of these programmes, noticed that these disparate initiatives shared commonalities despite geographic diversity. They thus organized and funded a meeting of these various organizations in June 2014, and the Springs Initiative was born.
The springs initiative aims to tackle the current water crisis and to ensure safe and sustainable access to water for all, by promoting responsible and appropriate management of aquifers, springsheds, and watersheds and conserving ecosystems in partnership with communities, governments and other stakeholders.
This presentation has been developed as a part of the springs initiative to promote an understanding of springs and their role in mountainous areas.

Gepersonaliseerd social intranet van Wageningen University & ResearchLinn Helen Gundersen
Wageningen University & Research was al in 2012 gestart met de voorbereiding voor een nieuw intranet. In het voortraject is uitgebreid gebruikersonderzoek gedaan, zijn allerlei bijeenkomsten met stakeholders en medewerkers gehouden, zijn diverse pilots uitgevoerd, nota’s opgesteld, presentaties gegeven, budgetten geregeld, etc. Toch draaide de discussie uiteindelijk toch vooral om ‘de techniek’. IT hield vast aan SharePoint (het huidig intranet is ontwikkeld in SharePoint 2007). Communicatie wilde ‘iets anders’.
Dat iets anders werd Embrace. In november is gestart met de inrichting en implementatie van een nieuw gepersonaliseerd, sociaal intranet op basis van Embrace, in samenwerking tussen Communicatie én IT. Weten hoe dat gelukt is? Tabhita Minten (projectmanager) en Haico Minkhorst (Product Owner) van Wageningen University & Research vertellen je er alles over tijdens deze sessie en geven je vast een exclusieve preview. Verbindingen leggen, dat is een van de strategische pijlers van Amphia ziekenhuis. Verbindingen leggen staat onder meer voor mensen weten te vinden, kennis kunnen delen en samen kunnen werken. Dat maakte dat Amphia behoefte had aan een nieuw platform. Een digitale werkplek waarin er verbinding mogelijk is tussen ruim 4300 medewerkers – waaronder 1500 verpleegkundigen -, 270 medisch specialisten en 340 vrijwilligers die werkzaam zijn op vier verschillende locaties. En in de toekomst ook verbinding met verschillende samenwerkingspartijen. Een social intranet dat bovendien eenvoudig is in gebruik en altijd en overal beschikbaar is.
In deze sessie laten we zien hoe we het nieuwe platform in drie maanden hebben gerealiseerd. En dat is gelukt! We vertellen over de successen die we tijdens dit proces hebben ervaren maar ook over de valkuilen die deze snelle implementatie met zich mee brengt. Een interessante bijeenkomst voor iedereen die overweegt een sociaal intranet te realiseren.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
