This document discusses prostaglandin H2 synthase (PGHS), also known as cyclooxygenase (COX). It has two main functions: converting arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2 and being the target of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). PGHS is a monotopic integral membrane protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear membranes. It is implicated in thrombosis, inflammation, neurological disorders, and cancer.
