Overview of the Costa Rica NDC Pathways Project
The Energy Balance is tailored to the national circumstances, thereby
depicting the country’s energy system and resulting TIMES model.
• Costa Rica has been working on improving GHG
emissions MRV and projection capacities
• We recognize the importance of
solid projections for long-term
planning and for decarbonization
pathways.
• We will be launching our LTS, we
are investing in models TIMES,
OSMOSIS, LEAP, etc. We want to
identify cost effective technologies
for this transition.

Long Term Planning
 In order to properly report the technological needs, the way in which they are assessed
must be changed first. They must be conducted in a continuous basis and must be
consistent with the new long-term goals.
 Using climate policy and NDCs as a basis for identifying technology support needs is
desirable. It is precisely to do so in manner consistent with achieving the Paris goals that
the LT-LERDS of 4.19 should be developed with a strong technology focus.
 Also, classification and terminology for technological adoption should evolve over time
through a participatory process which converges on an accepted conceptual framework to
discuss the topic.
 It is worthwhile to reduce ambiguity (words with more than one meaning)
and redundancy (more than one word for a given meaning) within the terminology) .
Conclusions
Thank you!

  • 11.  In order to properly report the technological needs, the way in which they are assessed must be changed first. They must be conducted in a continuous basis and must be consistent with the new long-term goals.  Using climate policy and NDCs as a basis for identifying technology support needs is desirable. It is precisely to do so in manner consistent with achieving the Paris goals that the LT-LERDS of 4.19 should be developed with a strong technology focus.  Also, classification and terminology for technological adoption should evolve over time through a participatory process which converges on an accepted conceptual framework to discuss the topic.  It is worthwhile to reduce ambiguity (words with more than one meaning) and redundancy (more than one word for a given meaning) within the terminology) .
