Guyana has participated in REDD+ programs through the UNFCCC and has developed its national MRVS to monitor forest change and complete six annual assessments. Guyana submitted its REDD+ Reference Level proposal to the UNFCCC in 2014, which was developed at the national scale based on detailed analysis of deforestation from 2001-2012. Guyana is working to complete its Third National Communication and first Biennial Update Report by 2019, and aims to finish the TNC and first BUR by 2021 with support from the RRR+ project through capacity building, review of deliverables, and knowledge sharing on FREL.

the Combined Reference Level Approach, in which a global
forest carbon emissions loss of 0.44%, as concluded by
Baccini et. al. 2012 is used, along with Guyana’s historic
emissions level for the period 2001 to 2012
