This document discusses how self-confidence in athletes can be affected by injuries through Bandura's theory of self-efficacy. It provides an example of a two-sport high school athlete who suffered an undisclosed shoulder injury in football that was later diagnosed, preventing him from throwing in baseball workouts and lowering his self-efficacy in his athletic abilities due to the serious nature of the injury. The athlete had surgery to repair the damage and underwent rehabilitation in an effort to rebuild his self-confidence in his athletic skills.
