Early China Research Paper
The early agricultural societies of China was one of the most advanced cultures of that time. The
effect that China had on the history of the world is phenomenal and its history is just as
impressive. There were many technological and sociological innovations that made early China as
advanced as it was. One of the reasons for its quick success was its environment.
In 5500, many farming communities were found all around the Wei River Valley and around the
Huang He River. Though these people would hunt game and collect food, they also raised
livestock and planted crops such as millet. The villages were mainly made of small huts dug into
the grounds with very basic roofs made of thatch or clay. It was harder for the farmers along the

The emperors sent their armies to attack the barbarians bordering them and take back people to
use as slaves or sacrifices to the gods. The emperor would sacrifice humans to many gods such as
the god of agriculture or the god of the river. Priests and diviners were highly respected for their
ability to communicate with the gods through bone cracking. The priests would put a hot rod
against a bone or shell and the cracks that formed were interpreted depending on the problem. They
lets the gods rule their lives through these interpretations. Emperors were buried in lavish tombs
filled with many things to help them in the afterlife, such as bows, spears, blades and chariots.
Evidence of horses and beheaded human sacrifices were often found in such tombs. Many wealthy
people worshipped their ancestors in hope that it would affect the season s crops or the health of an
individual. This continued until 1045, when the Zhou clan attacked and conquered the Shang

Personal Note On Sexual Violence
Assignment Turnitin Week 3
Institution:
Name:
Assignment Turnitin Week 3
Identify and briefly describe the two specific types of individual, couple, and/or family crisis
situations you have selected.
In the assignment application, I have identified partner violence and lethality as the two types of
crisis situations to discuss about. Partner violence may occur in three different forms. First,
Physical violence which involves intentional use of physical force with the aim of causing harm,
injury, disability or death. Physical violence may also involve activities such as biting, slapping,
choking, punching, burning, using a weapon to inflict pain, shoving, throwing as well as using
restrains on one body. Secondly, Sexual violence which generally refers to involuntary sexual
act in which a person is physically compelled or coerced to engage against their will. This
violence does no necessary require sexual intimacy and can occur between same sex couples and
heterosexual couples (Baldry Winkel, 2008). This may occur in three main ways: By use of
excessive physical force to compel an individual to engage into a sexual act which is contrary to his
or her will, forcible sexual act to a victim who is unable to resist or understand the nature of the
situation in order communicate his /her unwillingness to engage in the sexual act and finally the
abusive sexual contact (Garcia McManimon, 2010). Thirdly,

Role Of Madness In Macbeth
And nothing is but what is not (1.3.155). What matters to Macbeth is what does not exist, and those
that exist do not matter: Macbeth says these words while thinking of murder. Macbeth begins his
descent into madness through the act to follow. However innocent he thinks he is, he is but the
serpent underneath it. Shakespeare creates his character Macbethin a such a way that he starts off
sane, and through certain actions that Shakespeare characterizes as evil, he falls. In the play
Macbeth, Macbeth s mind slips far further than he had wagered and soon he is the epitome of
madness. Shakespeare uses other characters as well to delineate Macbeth s mind state as the play
unfolds. Such parallels are meant to emphasize and strengthen the... Show more content on

As Macbeth moves throughout the play, he makes decisions based on greed and insecurity.
These decisions are influenced by his diseased mind which is crippled by his paradoxical
thoughts. While planning to kill Banquo, he shares that full of scorpions is my mind, dear
wife! Thou know st that Banquo, and his Fleance, lives / But in them nature s copy s not eterne.
/ There s comfort yet; they are assailable (3.2.41 44). Macbeth knows that his mind is diseased
and while knowing that Banquo and his son is alive, his mind tricks him into thinking they are
dangerous. Shakespeare compares Macbeth s mind to be full of scorpions . Scorpions attack by
using their tails and stabbing poison into someone. The scorpion attacking him is his own greed
and the poison is from what the greed leads to. His greed, filling his mind more and more with
bad thoughts, until finally he is poisoned with the thoughts of killing to get what he wants. The
idea that Macbeth s head is full of scorpions suggests that over time his thoughts are getting a
little more poisoned over and over again until finally he dies. His state of mind now inhabited by
scorpions leads him to making paradoxical decisions. Macbeth feels comfort in knowing that
nature s copy is eterne for him but he also feels threatened by his successor being Fleance. Lady
Macbeth tries to comfort him by telling him he has eternal life and his assailants do not. He
agrees with his wife s comfort but he is still not sure. His thoughts are paradoxical because he
thinks he has eternal life and yet he feels in danger of Banquo and

The Agenda Setting Theory On The Public Agenda
Abstract
The history of the agenda setting theory goes back over 50 years to when it was introduced in a
1972 edition of Public Opinion Quarterly by Drs. Maxwell McCombs and Donald Shaw. It was
first developed as a means of studying the 1968 American presidential election as it relates to the
most important issues determined by the news media and the most important issues determined by
the 100 residents of Chapel Hill, North Carolina (McCombs Shaw, 1972). Still relevant today, the
agenda setting theory explains the influence of the media agenda on the public agenda. In a
comprehensive analysis of the agenda setting theory, agenda setting includes three levels or
psychological processes: basic agenda setting, attribute agenda setting and network agenda setting.
History of Agenda Setting Theory
The media s power in influencing public opinion has sparked the theory that we now know as
agenda setting. In 1922 this concept was first investigated by newspaper columnist Walter Lippman
(Wahl Jorgensen and Hanitzsch, 2009, pp.147). Since then Drs. Maxwell McCombs and Donald
Shaw have coined what we now know as the agenda setting theory. Their research of the 1968
presidential election of the Republican nominee Richard Nixon and the Democratic nominee
Hubert Humphrey proved groundbreaking. Before the agenda setting theory, assumptions were that
certain behaviors and attitudes were results of the way information was

Kurt Schlichter s Rhetorical Analysis
Americans try to stay away from discussing politics and offending people. However, it is very
important to talk about all topics, in order to inform others and learn from each other. Everyone has
a right to voice their opinion, even if it is different than others. In the news outlets, it has been
voiced that certain people are thinking about running for president, Oprah Winfrey being one of
them. Oprah Winfrey has copious amounts of titles including talk show host, actress, and
philanthropist, but according to Kurt Schlichter, running for President of the United Stateswould be
a mistake. Kurt Schlichter produces an interesting piece expressing how Oprah Winfrey is the best
of the worst Democratic candidates. He does this by his context, connecting to his target audience,
his credibility and reliability, and his style. Kurt Schlichter adequately persuades the target audience
of Republicans that this is indeed true.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between FAT32 And NTFS
NFTS vs FAT 32
New Technology File System is a proprietary file system, File Allocation Table 32 is a computer
file system architecture. These two are very alike in some ways and very different in others. NTFS
is newer and has a lot more storage but FAT32 is has better security and still works even if
Windows is opened incorrectly. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast FAT32 and
NTFS.
NTFS is a proprietary file system which means it is a file format of a business or person that
contains data that is stored according to a certain encoding scheme, designed by the business to
be secret, so that only the company that stored the data can see the data with software that they
have developed. NTFS has a max volume size of 264 clusters and the max number of files is
4,294,967,295 files. NTFS is used to store and retrieve files on a hard disk. NTFS offers
improvements from FAT and HPFS in performance, extendibility, and security.
FAT32 is an older file system so it isn t as efficient but it has more compatibility with other OS s. It
is the oldest of the three file systems available for Windows and most flash drives are formatted
with FAT32. FAT32 is used as a data recovery system and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some of the reasons that they are the same is they are both proprietary file systems. This means
that they both format files that contain encrypted data so that only the people that encrypted it can
see it. They both support Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Server, Windows Vista,
and Windows 7. They both have a limit of 255 characters for a file name. They also have many
differences including max volume size, max files on volume, max file size, max number of clusters,
etc. NTFS has many things that FAT32 doesn t, including alternate streams, compression,
encryption, object permissions, disk quotas, sparse files, reparse points, volume mount points, built

Critique of ВЁWhat Makes a Degas a Degas?ВЁ The paintings in the story of ВЁWhat makes a

artist wanted the people looking at the paintings to feel like they were right there of what was
happening in the picture. The paintings were quickly painted, had choppy figures, with short
strokes, but the figures still stuck out. The artist also wanted it to seem as if it was spontaneous.
The artist used colors to portray different objects in real life. For example, the black was used to
look like charcoal and looked like it. The author also made his paintings look quickly painted. This
gives the paintings a very unique feel and sometimes even realistic.

between human behavior and the organization, and the organization itself. We can divide
organizational behavior into 3 separate categories. The first one is the individuals within the
organization. The second is the work group which is made by pacing workers into specific groups.

O Pioneer Hardships
Hardships in O Pioneer During the middle to late 1800 s, thousands upon thousands of
Americans, as well as foreigners, flocked to the mid western part of the United States. They
flocked to this area hoping to gain free or cheap land promised to them by the United States
Government. Most of the pioneers left cities and factory jobs to venture out into the American
prairies and become farmers. They left their homes, not only because the land was either free or
cheap, but also because they wanted to leave the hardships of city life. However, as most would

After John died, the family divided the land into three parts. These three parts went to
Alexandra, Lou, and Oscar. All three had difficulties within the first couple of years. It even got
to the point to where they were discussing the idea of leaving and going back home. They
discussed this idea because the land they were living on was not producing much for them and
money was very hard to earn. Cather stated in Chapter two that John Bergson spent his first five
years on the Divide getting into debt, and the last six getting out. After John died, the rest of the
family took on the responsibility of repaying this debt. However, by the end of the novel, the
land had become very fertile and hearty and they were able to make a living off of it. But most
pioneers during this time were not so lucky. Some died of starvation. Some returned to the cities
in which they came from. Carl Linstrums family, in this story, had such bad luck with the land;
they were forced to return to the city. Violence and crime was also a problem for prairie dwellers.
Most people in this area lived in seclusion, miles from the nearest town. Therefore there was no
jurisdiction in these outer one or two home communities. Because there was no jurisdiction, it was
increasingly easier for people to commit crimes and get away with it. And most times this

To Play or Not to Play It seems that no matter what at some point in a child s life they wander up

Themes In The Allegory Of The Cave
The Allegory of the Cave is a philosophical writing presented by a Greek philosopher named
Plato. The story lead us to explore about the truth of nature and how people perceive the truth.
Plato likens us and the world around us to the prisoners in the cave. By using symbols of
characters, set and actions, he tries to disclose his allegorical meaning. As story goes on, Pluto
reveals his belief on existenceof absolute truthand develops themes of truth and reality .
To begin with, why did Plato used prisoners in chains as characters? Pluto similitude us as the

However, is truth only one in an universe? Who defines what is true and what is false? There is

something that can alter depending on different situations and perspectives. The truth can be
changed through series of discovery like the freed prisoner came out to a new reality. As
experience varies among each individual, things that a person come across becomes his or her
knowledge, which will then form truth in personal level. When this truth becomes as a whole, that
can become a truth that everyone believe as a truth. There s a possibility that absolute truth can
change too. Though, what Plato is telling us is that people should aspire for knowing greater truths

Body Image And Eating Disorders
Body Image and Eating Disorders
Females and males are both under pressure to conform to societies idea of beauty. Women feel
pressure to be thin, big chested, while men feel the urge to be lean and muscular. Society portrays
these images of thinness and muscularity through media, magazines, and even toys. These images
can have an impact on peoples body images, which can lead to eating disorders such as Anorexia
nervosa and Bulimia nervosa. Body Image is the way you see your body, and how you feel about
your appearance. There are four key proponents associated with Body Image. The first aspect is
Perceptual Body Image. This is how you see your body, this may not always be a correct
representation of how one really looks. For example, one may see themselves as fat, when in
reality they re thin. The next aspect is Affective Body Image, this is how you feel about your
body. Third is Cognitive Body Image, which is how you think about your body. The final aspect
is Behavioral Body Image, which is behaviors in which you engage as a result of your Body
Image . Body Image has two forms. The two forms are Negative and Positive Body Image.
Positive Body Image occurs when a person is able to accept, appreciate, and respect their body
Image. It is important because its one of the protective factors which can make a person more
resilient to developing eating disorders . People with positive body image often have high self
esteem, self acceptance, and a happy outlook on life.

Gap Year Persuasive
The Gap Year
News flash, we re all in the 10th grade right now. That means that in two years, we ll be
graduating. Now, imagine that graduation was tomorrow, do you think you d be ready to go
straight to college? High school students all over the country take a year off before going to college.
This is known as the Gap Year . During this time students have the time to do a variety of things
before getting serious about their education and future. This variety has stirred some controversy on
whether or not a student should be able to take a gap year . As a student, I feel like EHS students
should be allowed to take a gap year before going to college.
First of all, the gap year gives students a break. Most students, when they graduate are

High School Admission Essay Sample
The first theatrical production I was ever involved in as a tech crew member, happened by pure
accident. At the end of the school day, a group of friends whisked me away to their drama club
meeting, and at the end of the week I was the only member of that group that remained. That
accident was the genesis of a brand new passion. From starting off as an average stage hand to
becoming a full fledged member of the high school tech program, I was hooked for life.
Since starting in the field of technical theatre, it seems like it s been show after show. A grand total
of fourteen shows in two years, being involved in almost every technical aspect of each show, has
solidified my career decision. No matter how stressful the shows have become, whether it was
being the head costume designer for over 30 students in my second ever show, or creating fully
functional weaponized props out of foam for an entirely improved performance, nothing in life

production role was given: stage manager, and scenic painter. While managing the show was
something I was completely prepared for, the scenic painting came as a bit of a surprise. I was
told to paint a 10ft tall by 6ft wide group of flats with a doorway cut out into an entryway for the
shows haunted house. That in and of itself wasn t difficult, the time frame however, was. I was
given two hours the very night of the show to paint an entire entrance of my own creation.

The Debate Over Time To Reduce The Budget Deficit
We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is
increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, define deficit
as spending that exceed revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over
spending from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had
a budget deficitalmost every year between 1970 and 1997, but taxcut and more spending on
defense by President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is
from reducing of productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when
the government had some budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew
over $ 16 trillion, (482 483) and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of budget
deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression,
sometime policymakers cut the taxes and increase spending again by putting more money into
private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore, government goes further with the budget unbalancing.
There are several reasons that lower tax rate will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance.
First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring
different amounts of revenue from the previous year if the tax rate falls below a previous
percentage. For example, Ramesh Ponnuru said that Mr. Trump s plan will

Marriage And Arranged Marriage
An arranged marriage can be defined as the arrangement of a marriage exclusively by a third
party or by a joint venture of the third party and the child/person getting married (Bowman and
Dollahite, 2013). Most marriages in the world are arranged by parents or matchmakers and in
many cultures in the non Western world, love is believed not to be a requirement for marriage
(Epstein, Pandit, Thakar, 2013). In some of these cultures, arranged marriages are not only
accepted, but are considered a normal part of life and it is believed that falling in love with
someone who has a different upbringing and background does not produce a successful relationship
(Houghton, 2011). In these specific relationships, the responsibilities of the husband... Show more

These shows incorporate practical ideas that can be derived from arranged marriages of other
countries and focus on compatibility of partners and the larger picture of the nature of marriage and
relationships (DavГ©, 2012). In modern times, an arranged marriage can mean anything from the
family facilitating the first date to a marriage match up that is created without any input from the
bride or groom (DavГ©, 2012). These types of marriages offer a more thoughtful and intellectual
approach to a long term relationship rather than a passionate and lustful approach that love
marriages often have (DavГ©, 2012).
American View of Arranged Marriages
In the United States, 18 years old is the minimum age for marriage, however every state s
marriage law includes exceptions that allow minors to marry with parental or judicial concent,
proof of pregnancy or childbirth (Landau, 2016). These exceptions are tremendously broad and
are undefined. The parental exception provides an opportunity for parents to force their child to
marry against their will and it is often overlooked (Landau, 2016). In recent years, the
recognition of forced marriages in the US has increased and a national response is needed to
protect and empower victims (Landau, 2016). Research has revealed that about 3,853 minors
were married between 2000 and 2010 in New York and between 2000 and 2013 about 4, 500
minors had been married in Virginia

Bounty Hunter Social Pressure
After watching the video and witnessing some of the actions of the individuals I honestly was not
surprised what so ever. The fact that many of the individuals chose not to question the bounty
hunter stems from the fact that in society if we see someone in the power position we are expected
to not questions them and obey them completely. When the bounty hunter had pressured the
individuals to help him detain the woman in the blue jacket for her crime, they were reassured
that he was an actual bounty hunter by his fake badge. The pressure that bounty hunter had placed
upon the individuals is a clear example of social pressure. According to the textbook, many

Identity Of The American Identity
The American culture is made up of bits and pieces combined into one American Identity.
Throughout the process of finding this identity, came with courage, religion, and fear. These
three concepts provide compelling examples and experiences that have shaped Americans into
the best country there is. Having courage in life is often half the battle. John Smith encounters
so many hardships that prove he dares to keep pursuing his goal. Eventually, after defeating and
beheading a succession of three Turkish officers in single combat in Rumania, Smith was
wounded in battle, taken as a prisoner and sold into slavery to a Turk. Smith was passed from
place to place until held prisoner on the Black Sea, he murdered his master and fled back to
Rumania via Russia and Poland, returning to England in the winter of 1604 05. (Smith, pp. 82).
Most people at this point would typically become slightly discouraged because he has gotten beaten
up and is questioning if he can accomplish this or fail. The lesson we should take from Smith in this
story is that no matter how hard things get if you have a goal achieve it. There will defiantly be
hardships that come your way, but nothing in this life comes easy. For example, the British
encounter many hardships such as hunger, sickness, and unfamiliarity. Being thrown into adapting
to new situations is often hard. The natives saw many things they were not accustomed to, a few of
which include, muskets, clothes, horses, compasses, and

The Lewis And His Influence On The Church Today
C.S. Lewis is one of the most profound and well known theologians of the twentieth century. His
writings and ideas have played an incredible influence on the Church today. Lewis served as a
professor at Oxford university as well as an army officer during the First World War (BBC).
Throughout his life, Lewis understood the importance of friendshipthrough significant relationships
within his own life. His mother died when he was ten, which caused him to grow closer to his
older brother Warren. In college, Lewis connected particularly to a friend named Arthur Greeves

Lewis describes friendship as being the forgotten love, because it is so different from the other
loves. This is because Philia is the least natural love meaning humans do not have a biological or
instinctual need for it. Most people lead perfectly fine lives without it. It is also considered
forgotten because so few experience it fully in our modern world. Friendships can often be
uncomfortable because of the level of vulnerability and self disclosure involved in them. They
require as Lewis puts it, naked personalities (Lewis 71). It may initially be disliked or untrusted
by some who view friendship as a threat. This is because friendship can lead to strengthened
opinions and new ideas. Another reason as to why few experience it is because some confuse it
with homosexuality. Lewis addresses this point by saying those that confuse friendship for
homosexuality have never had a friend (61). Friendship and the actions within it do not suggest
homosexuality. It is the same actions with very different implications that would suggest
homosexuality. There are a lot of reasons as to why people do not engage in philia love, but Lewis
understands that true philia is incredibly beautiful. There are many different types of friendship,
Lewis argues, such as companionship and friendship among romantic lovers. A true friend is found
when individuals discover that they have in common some insight or interest or taste which others

Economic inequality is a multifaceted, idea that breaks down into unequal distributions of
income, pay, and wealth. Of course, each individual definition is the inequality of distribution of
each concept, respectively ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). Income is the money
received from nearly everything a person is a part of: investments, bonds, stocks, property,
wages, salary, pension, rent, payment, etc. ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). By
definition, those with less of these investments and earnings are at a disadvantage than those
with more. Normal class citizens do not own thousands and thousands of stocks, large houses
and yachts, nor do they receive these large wages similar to the wealthy. Nonetheless, while this
seems like a tiresome argument, the cries are valid. The Scientific American states that, The top
20% of US households own more than 84% of the wealth, and the bottom 40% combine for a
paltry 0.3%. The Walton family, for example, has more wealth than 42% of American families
combined (Fitz). This notion relates to not only a small fraction of economic inequality, but to a
major gap between those that supposedly have it better. Pay refers to the payment from
employment only ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). This area is seemingly easier to
work with the idea of equality, for a job/career usually relies on skills alone. Usually is a key word

Charles Darwin s Natural Selection Theory
Darwin did not publish his theory of evolution by natural selection until 1859. He was not the first,
however, to develop a theory of evolution. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the
natural world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as
the Comte de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarckthat species changed gradually over time. While
these prior scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to
threaten the status quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural
selection, however, created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning
method of change backed up by copious amounts of scientific support,... Show more content on

What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection.
Natural selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited
for their environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and
will survive to produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by
observations made while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas
Malthus and his An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when
unchecked, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio.
Since resources are limited, a struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals
competed over available resources. There must be a strong and constantly operating check on
population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a struggle for survival, those individuals most fit
for their environment would outcompete those less fit. Malthus essay became essential for
Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore, variation in individuals, Darwin
determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not believe, like Lamarck, that
evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always select for the most
complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was random and there
was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for God. Natural
selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention in Darwin
s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an atheist
by his death. However, despite protests by theologians, there was a significant amount of empirical
evidence backing up natural selection. For more than 10 years, Darwin

Energy Gels In Sports
Nutrition is one of the most important factors in athletic performance. It provides athletes with the
energy to perform their best in practice and in games. Nutrition is important in all sports, but it is
especially relevant for endurance athletes who participate in sports such as running, swimming, and
cycling. Regular moderate intensity physical activity has significant benefits for health. For
example, it can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, colon and breast cancer, and
depression (Lee, 2005). Energygels are a source of carbohydrates commonly used by runners. They

Rapa Nui Body Modification
Body modification has been found in practically all cultures throughout history. The most
common type of body modification is the act of tattooing. This act includes injecting ink or dye

come to be is variable from culture to culture. Some see it as a way to symbolize your political

is commonly known as Easter Island. The Island was remotely barren with volcanic peaks and

Because of their small economies, there became an occupational based hierarchy. Those who
were stone carvers or fishermen held one of the highest positions within the society

Thus, the epidemiology changeover has resulted to a sharper focus on demands for an earlier
examination of food utilization patterns, the influence it has on nutrition and health conditions
(Food and Agriculture Organization, 2004). Health People (2010) approximate that by 2020, the
objective for weight and health will be based on science to sustain the health advantages of eating
wholesome diet and preserving a fitting body weight. The endeavors to modify weight and diet
should directly reflect a person`s level of activity, environment, practices and policies encouraging
the development of such behaviors in different settings such as worksites, health care facilities,

To attain the above, periodic diet assessment of nutritious situations of the population will avail

there was a hospital. Since no one in the medical field had ever seen this illness before, it took
them awhile to realize that it was passed by close contact. By the time the outbreak had subsided
in the Sudan, 284 people had become ill, 151 of whom had died.
On September 1, 1976, another, even more deadly, outbreak of Ebola struck this time in Zaire.
The first victim of this outbreak was a 44 year old teacher who had just returned from a tour of
northern Zaire. After suffering from symptoms that seemed like malaria, this first victim went to
the Yambuku Mission Hospital and received a shot of an anti malarial drug. Unfortunately, at that
time the hospital did not use disposable needles nor did they properly sterilize the ones they used.
Thus, the Ebola virus spread through used needles to many of the hospital

How Does Mere Exposure Influence Affective Responses
Eddie Harmon Jones and John J. B. Allen (2001) designed a study that focused on the mere
exposure effect, which states that more exposure to a stimulus results in a positive affect toward
that stimulus. Numerous studies have been conducted based on cognitive responses, but this study
focused on the affective responses. The main purpose of the study was to accept or reject (test) the
hypothesisthat mere exposure influences affective responses using other measures than a cognitive
response, such as self report. They would test this by measuring facial electromyographic or EMG
responses to the stimuli, thus measuring emotional responses. They also had three other hypothesis
that dealt with the main hypothesis but were more specific. They alos hypothesized that familiar
stimuli would stimulate a larger zygomatic (cheek) muscle region activity and/or smaller corrugator
(brow) muscle region activity compared to novel stimuli and that motivational responses would be
affected by familiarity when evaluating frontal cortical activity. The second purpose of the study
was to determine if individual differeces in affective traits influence the reactions of mere exposure
to stimuli. If... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to identify a correlation between mere exposure to a stimulus and a positive affect, but cannot

responses. The independent variables are the familiar pictures, novel pictures, heterogeneous order
and individual differences. (familiar vs novel) order, individual differences . the control variables

Use Of Irony In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
In The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator is a man who believes he is sane but is
actually crazy. The story begins with the matter thinking he isn t insane but in reality he is. The
narrator decides to kill the old man due to his vulture eye . The narrator s writing style is formal
and uses literary devices such as metaphors, similes, and irony. Poe uses literary devices and
figurative language such as irony, metaphors, and simile. Poe uses verbal irony. For example, he
says i loved the old man i think it was his eye... i made up my mind to take the olds mans life and
thus rid myself of the eye forever(1). This is verbal irony because he is saying that he loves him
but he is going to kill him. Poe also uses dramatic irony, such as the narrator was nice to the old
man a week before he killed the old man. This is dramatic irony because you wouldn t expect the
narrator being nice to the old man before he killed him. Another example of dramatic irony is i
m not crazy, i m not crazy, i m not crazy (1) this is dramatic irony because we know that the
narrator is crazy but he thinks he isn t. The author also uses situational irony. Such as His room
was as black as pitch with the thick darkness ( for the shutters were closed fastened, through fear
of robbers,) and so I knew that he could not see the opening of the door, and I kept pushing it on
steadily, steadily.(1) This is situational irony because the narrator tells the readers that the old man
keeps his windows closed tightly because the old man is afraid of robbers. It s ironic because the
only robber near his house is the narrator that lives with him. The narrator also uses similes and...

Evolution Of Protest
The United States is approaching an era where the citizens are expressing their displeasures on
political issues and how they feel about a particular politician. Nonetheless, we are experiencing an
evolution of protest, where protesters seem to oblivious to or simply don t care about positive
effective protesting. Conversely, protestorganizer who normally leads the protest usually have a
plan, such as the right time for the protest, proper location, and making sure the message of the
protest is not being distorted. On the other hand, the government officials or city government who
issues the protest permit need to have a plan also. For example, a brief class on the constitution
should be one of the mandatory requirements for the

Whisking By Ehrenreich Summary
Ehrenreich discusses how the employers manage to disclose any information of pay to
applicants during interviews in this way: I have mentioned the way the hiring process seems
designed, in some cases, to prevent any discussion or even disclosure of wage whisking the
applicant from interview to orientation before the crass subject of money can be raised. Some
employers go further; instead of relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from
discussing and comparing wages, they specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207)
Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but
provide more emphasis than commas. She could have ended the sentence where the dash began
but she decided to include the part where applicants are rushed into orientation before the talk of
pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The author connects these two together to
create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows that she felt it necessary to bring
the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. The true intentions of employers had to be
exposed to show that many workers go into work blind of their actual pay. It reveals how unfair it
is for applicants. It felt as though the author was suddenly stopped... Show more content on

By using whisking , it implies that the applicants were rushed into orientation. This term is often
used in baking as well. It seems as if the author is making a comparison between the applicants
and the ingredients of a batter. Both belong in one whole mixture so they are rapidly whipped
together to make one. The goal for both scenarios is to have a finished product without any
complications. Money is often a problem that arises during the hiring process so the employers
hustle to avoid this complication. If the author was making this association, it implies that she feels
the applicants are just one piece of a whole and are not important as

Expectations And Expectations
Expectations are real. Expectation usually creates anticipation for something that has not yet
entered our personal space or domain. As a tree loses leaves and even the whole branches with the
onslaught of strong winds and storms, so shall our expectations die, and are reborn. We cannot
curb them, as the tree could not stop new leaves and branches from forming. But while they are
with us, we must avoid being over demanding. The hustle for superiority is passionately engraved
on the hearts of many and its pursuits often skip steps which will always demand to be revisited...
Our expectationof others is so great such that it has become the major cause of sadness and
disappointment. Greater expectation that is focused on how we think others should conduct
themselves, take on their assigned responsibilities and etc., will only bring abject sinking and
disintegration. It is for the same reason some who can t stand pressure end up quitting prematurely.

Brother Lamont Coakley says that, When character does not collaborate with your blessing; your
blessing becomes a curse. God s blessings come in form of massive opportunities without
limitation but there is a need for spiritual and emotional preparation to sustain the availed
blessings. Opportunity is often difficult to recognize. Claude McDonald said that, Opportunity
is a bird that never perches. It is possible not to see an opportunity until it has ceased to be one. It
is therefore advisable to jump at every small opportunity available in bid to get to your intended
destiny. But without characters opportunities become purposeless and abuse is inevitable. Your
characters define who you are. Irrespective of your status in life, no one can place a value on you
far greater than you place on yourself. We can t change the whole world at one time but we can

How Does Hector Criticize The Greek Honor System
Homer s Critique on the Greek Honor System in The Iliad The Iliad, a great epic poem written by
Homer, illustrates the honor system valued deeply by the Greeks and Trojans. Though Homer uses
Hector as a voice piece for the honor system, he presents Hector and other characters as heroes that
conflict with the code itself. Through Hector s conversation with Paris, we identify the three main
components that codes the honor system. In other great epic poems, great heroes appear to possess
and suffice the components. Yet, Homer chooses to do the exact opposite. In The Iliad, the heroes ,
such as, Paris, Diomedes, and Hector himself, conflict with the codes. Homer criticizes the Greek
honor system by contradicting the system through these conflicted heroes.
Through Hector, Homer points out the transfer of glory between enemies through battle as one of
the main components in the honor system. Hector expresses this particular concept through his
conversation with Paris. In book 3, when Paris avoids Menelaus, Hector forces him back into
battle by saying, Can t you just hear it, the long haired Greeks chuckling and saying that our
champion wins for good looks but comes up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole conversation in book 3 between Paris and Hector is about fighting Menelaus. Hector
insists that Paris fight Menelaus head on by shaming him: No, don t stand up to Menelaus: you
might find out what kind of a man it is whose wife you re sleeping with (3. 57). From Hector s
use of verbal irony, we can see he expects and believes that only through fighting a final heroic
battle head on will bring honor; thus, it must be obeyed. The main components of the Honor
system that Hector values greatly are the titles, war prizes, and heroic battles. Homer explicitly
maneuvers Hector as a voice piece to suggest the concept of the honor system that can be seen
applied to the battles between the Trojans and the

Disparity In Healthcare
As an oncologist at Grady Memorial, an inner city hospital located in Atlanta, Dr. Brawley
witnesses the disastrous effects of healthcare disparity first hand. Healthcare disparities are vast
differences in quality and access to care between socioeconomic classes. health care disparities
refer to differences in health and health care between population groups. Disparities occur across
many dimensions, including race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability
status, and sexual orientation (KFF, 2016). As Brawley describes to us, Grady is a hospital that
demonstrates health disparity at its worst. Brawley describes Grady as a monument to racism,
Racism is built into it, as is poverty, as is despair. (Brawley, 2011).

A Race Based Admissions Program Is Consistent With The...
It has been argued that Fisher III neither provides any substantive additions to Equal Protection
Clause (EPC) Jurisprudence, nor any guidance to lower courts how to apply Grutter and determine
whether a race based admissions program is consistent with the Fourteenth Amendment. Danielle
Holley Walker, in her article published in winter of 2014, explores the impact Fisher III has on race
conscious admissions programs, and argues that Fisher III enhances the strict scrutiny analysis,
especially when compared to Grutter. Moreover, she argues Justice Ginsburg s dissent meaningfully
highlights one of the most pernicious flaws in the current Equal Protection Clause jurisprudence,
which is that strict scrutiny standard encourages universities to make their admissions process
opaque instead of transparent and that there are many benefits that flow from having a transparent,
race conscious admissions program. The Court s focus in Fisher III was whether the lower courts
applied strict scrutiny in a manner consistent with the holding in Grutter. Justine Kennedy
emphasizes the importance of strict scrutiny in evaluating race conscious admissions programs, for
unless an admissions program can withstand the strictest analysis, race cannot be used. Bakke is
utilized to shape Justice Kennedy s analysis of the compelling state interest prong of strict scrutiny;
he utilizes Grutter in shaping his discussion of the narrow tailoring prong of the strict scrutiny
analysis. While a

The American Revolutionary War Between America And Britain
A guerrilla is any radical who utilizes a weapon of any kind and does the real battling for the
insurrection. They may direct demonstrations of dread, guerrilla fighting, criminal exercises, or
customary operations. They are regularly mixed up for the development or insurrection itself;
however they are only the troopers of the development or revolt. Guerrillas fluctuate broadly in size,
make‑up, strategies, and routines starting with one insurrection then onto the next. They even
fluctuate broadly inside of an uprising, particularly in each of the three periods of a rebellion.
The American Revolutionary Waroccurred from April 19, 1775 and ended on September 3, 1783.
This war was an aftereffect of governmental issues; Americans had imagined that the Stamp Act of
1765 had been illegal. Then again, the British asserted that they had the privilege to impose the
individuals with taxes. What numerous individuals believe is that it had been a war in the middle
of America and Britain. Despite the fact that this is incompletely genuine, numerous individuals
don t know or perceive the way that the war had developed and France, the Netherlands and Spain
had taken America s side and joined the war.
At an opportune time the United States had chosen to utilize guerilla or unpredictable fighting.
Americans had favorable position as in British were battling on new domain and had no local
source of manpower or food. By 1783 a great many individuals on

  • 2. Early China Research Paper The early agricultural societies of China was one of the most advanced cultures of that time. The effect that China had on the history of the world is phenomenal and its history is just as impressive. There were many technological and sociological innovations that made early China as advanced as it was. One of the reasons for its quick success was its environment. In 5500, many farming communities were found all around the Wei River Valley and around the Huang He River. Though these people would hunt game and collect food, they also raised livestock and planted crops such as millet. The villages were mainly made of small huts dug into the grounds with very basic roofs made of thatch or clay. It was harder for the farmers along the Yellow River ... The emperor would sacrifice humans to many gods such as the god of agriculture or the god of the river. Priests and diviners were highly respected for their ability to communicate with the gods through bone cracking. The priests would put a hot rod against a bone or shell and the cracks that formed were interpreted depending on the problem. They lets the gods rule their lives through these interpretations. Emperors were buried in lavish tombs filled with many things to help them in the afterlife, such as bows, spears, blades and chariots. Evidence of horses and beheaded human sacrifices were often found in such tombs. Many wealthy people worshipped their ancestors in hope that it would affect the season s crops or the health of an individual. This continued until 1045, when the Zhou clan attacked and conquered the Shang ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Note On Sexual Violence Assignment Turnitin Week 3 Institution: Name: Assignment Turnitin Week 3 Identify and briefly describe the two specific types of individual, couple, and/or family crisis situations you have selected. In the assignment application, I have identified partner violence and lethality as the two types of crisis situations to discuss about. Partner violence may occur in three different forms. First, Physical violence which involves intentional use of physical force with the aim of causing harm, injury, disability or death. Physical violence may also involve activities such as biting, slapping, choking, punching, burning, using a weapon to inflict pain, shoving, throwing as well as using restrains on one body. Secondly, Sexual violence which generally refers to involuntary sexual act in which a person is physically compelled or coerced to engage against their will. This violence does no necessary require sexual intimacy and can occur between same sex couples and heterosexual couples (Baldry Winkel, 2008). This may occur in three main ways: By use of excessive physical force to compel an individual to engage into a sexual act which is contrary to his or her will, forcible sexual act to a victim who is unable to resist or understand the nature of the situation in order communicate his /her unwillingness to engage in the sexual act and finally the abusive sexual contact (Garcia McManimon, 2010). • 4. Role Of Madness In Macbeth And nothing is but what is not (1.3.155). What matters to Macbeth is what does not exist, and those that exist do not matter: Macbeth says these words while thinking of murder. Macbeth begins his descent into madness through the act to follow. However innocent he thinks he is, he is but the serpent underneath it. Shakespeare creates his character Macbethin a such a way that he starts off sane, and through certain actions that Shakespeare characterizes as evil, he falls. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth s mind slips far further than he had wagered and soon he is the epitome of madness. Shakespeare uses other characters as well to delineate Macbeth s mind state as the play unfolds. Such parallels are meant to emphasize and strengthen the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Macbeth moves throughout the play, he makes decisions based on greed and insecurity. These decisions are influenced by his diseased mind which is crippled by his paradoxical thoughts. While planning to kill Banquo, he shares that full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife! Thou know st that Banquo, and his Fleance, lives / But in them nature s copy s not eterne. / There s comfort yet; they are assailable (3.2.41 44). Macbeth knows that his mind is diseased and while knowing that Banquo and his son is alive, his mind tricks him into thinking they are dangerous. Shakespeare compares Macbeth s mind to be full of scorpions . Scorpions attack by using their tails and stabbing poison into someone. The scorpion attacking him is his own greed and the poison is from what the greed leads to. His greed, filling his mind more and more with bad thoughts, until finally he is poisoned with the thoughts of killing to get what he wants. The idea that Macbeth s head is full of scorpions suggests that over time his thoughts are getting a little more poisoned over and over again until finally he dies. His state of mind now inhabited by scorpions leads him to making paradoxical decisions. Macbeth feels comfort in knowing that nature s copy is eterne for him but he also feels threatened by his successor being Fleance. Lady Macbeth tries to comfort him by telling him he has eternal life and his assailants do not. He agrees with his wife s comfort but he is still not sure. His thoughts are paradoxical because he thinks he has eternal life and yet he feels in danger of Banquo and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Agenda Setting Theory On The Public Agenda Abstract The history of the agenda setting theory goes back over 50 years to when it was introduced in a 1972 edition of Public Opinion Quarterly by Drs. Maxwell McCombs and Donald Shaw. It was first developed as a means of studying the 1968 American presidential election as it relates to the most important issues determined by the news media and the most important issues determined by the 100 residents of Chapel Hill, North Carolina (McCombs Shaw, 1972). Still relevant today, the agenda setting theory explains the influence of the media agenda on the public agenda. In a comprehensive analysis of the agenda setting theory, agenda setting includes three levels or psychological processes: basic agenda setting, attribute agenda setting and network agenda setting. History of Agenda Setting Theory The media s power in influencing public opinion has sparked the theory that we now know as agenda setting. In 1922 this concept was first investigated by newspaper columnist Walter Lippman (Wahl Jorgensen and Hanitzsch, 2009, pp.147). Since then Drs. Maxwell McCombs and Donald Shaw have coined what we now know as the agenda setting theory. Their research of the 1968 presidential election of the Republican nominee Richard Nixon and the Democratic nominee Hubert Humphrey proved groundbreaking. Before the agenda setting theory, assumptions were that certain behaviors and attitudes were results of the way information was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it is very important to talk about all topics, in order to inform others and learn from each other. Everyone has a right to voice their opinion, even if it is different than others. In the news outlets, it has been voiced that certain people are thinking about running for president, Oprah Winfrey being one of them. Oprah Winfrey has copious amounts of titles including talk show host, actress, and philanthropist, but according to Kurt Schlichter, running for President of the United Stateswould be a mistake. Kurt Schlichter produces an interesting piece expressing how Oprah Winfrey is the best of the worst Democratic candidates. He does this by his context, connecting to his target audience, his credibility and reliability, and his style. • 26. The Debate Over Time To Reduce The Budget Deficit We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, define deficit as spending that exceed revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over spending from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had a budget deficitalmost every year between 1970 and 1997, but taxcut and more spending on defense by President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is from reducing of productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when the government had some budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483) and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and increase spending again by putting more money into private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore, government goes further with the budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower tax rate will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance. First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring different amounts of revenue from the previous year if the tax rate falls below a previous percentage. For example, Ramesh Ponnuru said that Mr. Trump s plan will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These types of marriages offer a more thoughtful and intellectual approach to a long term relationship rather than a passionate and lustful approach that love marriages often have (DavГ©, 2012). This is because Philia is the least natural love meaning humans do not have a biological or instinctual need for it. Most people lead perfectly fine lives without it. It is also considered forgotten because so few experience it fully in our modern world. Friendships can often be uncomfortable because of the level of vulnerability and self disclosure involved in them. They require as Lewis puts it, naked personalities (Lewis 71). It may initially be disliked or untrusted by some who view friendship as a threat. This is because friendship can lead to strengthened opinions and new ideas. Another reason as to why few experience it is because some confuse it with homosexuality. Lewis addresses this point by saying those that confuse friendship for homosexuality have never had a friend (61). Friendship and the actions within it do not suggest homosexuality. It is the same actions with very different implications that would suggest homosexuality. While there is no agreement of a full blown communist or socialist revolution, a la Karl Marx, there is agreement that there should be slight changes towards this idea of equality. According to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, a social contract (theory) is the view that persons moral and/or political obligations are dependent upon a contract or agreement among them to form the society in which they live (Friend). The current American contract is debatable, and the exact definition depends on each person individually. Economic inequality is a multifaceted, idea that breaks down into unequal distributions of income, pay, and wealth. Of course, each individual definition is the inequality of distribution of each concept, respectively ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). Income is the money received from nearly everything a person is a part of: investments, bonds, stocks, property, wages, salary, pension, rent, payment, etc. ( How is Economic Inequality Defined? ). By definition, those with less of these investments and earnings are at a disadvantage than those with more. Normal class citizens do not own thousands and thousands of stocks, large houses and yachts, nor do they receive these large wages similar to the wealthy. Nonetheless, while this seems like a tiresome argument, the cries are valid. The Scientific American states that, The top 20% of US households own more than 84% of the wealth, and the bottom 40% combine for a paltry 0.3%. The Walton family, for example, has more wealth than 42% of American families combined (Fitz). • 35. Charles Darwin s Natural Selection Theory Darwin did not publish his theory of evolution by natural selection until 1859. He was not the first, however, to develop a theory of evolution. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the natural world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as the Comte de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarckthat species changed gradually over time. While these prior scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to threaten the status quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection, however, created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning method of change backed up by copious amounts of scientific support,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection. Natural selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited for their environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and will survive to produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by observations made while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas Malthus and his An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when unchecked, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. Since resources are limited, a struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals competed over available resources. There must be a strong and constantly operating check on population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a struggle for survival, those individuals most fit for their environment would outcompete those less fit. Malthus essay became essential for Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore, variation in individuals, Darwin determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not believe, like Lamarck, that evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always select for the most complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was random and there was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for God. Natural selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention in Darwin s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an atheist by his death. However, despite protests by theologians, there was a significant amount of empirical evidence backing up natural selection. For more than 10 years, Darwin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some employers go further; instead of relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from discussing and comparing wages, they specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207) Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but provide more emphasis than commas. She could have ended the sentence where the dash began but she decided to include the part where applicants are rushed into orientation before the talk of pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The author connects these two together to create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows that she felt it necessary to bring the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. How Does Hector Criticize The Greek Honor System Homer s Critique on the Greek Honor System in The Iliad The Iliad, a great epic poem written by Homer, illustrates the honor system valued deeply by the Greeks and Trojans. Though Homer uses Hector as a voice piece for the honor system, he presents Hector and other characters as heroes that conflict with the code itself. Through Hector s conversation with Paris, we identify the three main components that codes the honor system. In other great epic poems, great heroes appear to possess and suffice the components. Yet, Homer chooses to do the exact opposite. In The Iliad, the heroes , such as, Paris, Diomedes, and Hector himself, conflict with the codes. Homer criticizes the Greek honor system by contradicting the system through these conflicted heroes. Through Hector, Homer points out the transfer of glory between enemies through battle as one of the main components in the honor system. Hector expresses this particular concept through his conversation with Paris. It has been argued that Fisher III neither provides any substantive additions to Equal Protection Clause (EPC) Jurisprudence, nor any guidance to lower courts how to apply Grutter and determine whether a race based admissions program is consistent with the Fourteenth Amendment. Danielle Holley Walker, in her article published in winter of 2014, explores the impact Fisher III has on race conscious admissions programs, and argues that Fisher III enhances the strict scrutiny analysis, especially when compared to Grutter. Moreover, she argues Justice Ginsburg s dissent meaningfully highlights one of the most pernicious flaws in the current Equal Protection Clause jurisprudence, which is that strict scrutiny standard encourages universities to make their admissions process opaque instead of transparent and that there are many benefits that flow from having a transparent, race conscious admissions program. The Court s focus in Fisher III was whether the lower courts applied strict scrutiny in a manner consistent with the holding in Grutter. Justine Kennedy emphasizes the importance of strict scrutiny in evaluating race conscious admissions programs, for unless an admissions program can withstand the strictest analysis, race cannot be used.
