Comparing The Fall Of A City And Just Lather Thats All
The two stories The fall of a city by Alden Nowlan and Just Lather Thats all by Hernando Tellez, both
showcase how the main characters similarily are affected by their own and others actions. The Fall of
a city demonstrates how Teddy s Aunt and Uncle change Teddys perspective of imagination and his

Minimum Driving Age
In California, there has been an ongoing issue and a big debate on whether the minimum age for
driving a car needs to be eighteen. This argument has people agreeing and disagreeing with this
matter. Unlike older and more experienced drivers, the young generation of drivers makes up most of
the causes of life threatening accidents. Therefore, in order to decrease the number of life threatening
accidents substantially the driving age limit should be raised to eighteen.
Earning a driver s license is most important for most young Americans, but teens are the ones with
poor driving performance. According to traffic safety facts (22) in 2008: 5,864 15 20 year old drivers
were involved in dangerous crashes. Teens are proven to have road rage. Teens, in fact, love to drive at
night with other teens speeding through the streets. Statistics show that young people ages 15 20 can
make up the total percent of the driving population. 14 percent are involved in dangerous crashes. This
percentage of crashes needs to be reduced. The only possible way to upturn the level of maturity when
it comes to driving a car would be the age of an eighteen year old. ... Show more content on

Positive consequences would be that there would be more responsible drivers out on the road. Studies

there are things more important than texting, driving and drinking. Negative consequences are that
teens will not obey the laws. Driving without a license. Teens will also have less of an opportunity to
get a job. Teens don t know how much of the consequences come with driving, teens just want a car so
they can get away and by this teens don t drive the right, responsible

Feminism in Medea by Euripides Essay
Feminism in Medea by Euripides The play Medea by Euripides challenges the dominant views of
femininity in the patriarchal society of the Greeks. While pursuing her ambition Medea disregards
many of the feminine stereotypes/ characteristics of the patriarchal Greek society. She questions the
inequality of women in a patriarchal society, contradicts Jason?s chauvinist beliefs, challenges the
stereotype that women are weak and passive and completely disregards the feminine role of
motherhood. Feminism is the belief that women and men are, and have been, treated differently by
society, and that women have frequently and systematically been unable to participate fully in all
social arenas and institutions. This belief is confirmed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then she was transferred to the home of her husband where she was to fulfill her principal function,
the bearing and rearing children. Medea shows the inequality of women in Greek society. The betrayal
of Medea by Jason through his marriage to another woman enrages Medea. She begins to question the
role and position of women in a patriarchal society. Are we women not the wretchedness? We scratch
and save a dowry to buy a man?Our lives depends on how his lordship feels. For better for worse we
can?t divorce him. (p.8, Medea). However, a husband tired of domesticity, Goes out sees friends and
enjoys himself?. (p.8and 9, Medea). Medea compares the virtual slavery of women to the absolute
freedom of men, showing the inequality and disempowerment of women in society at that time.
Jason?s chauvinist beliefs are put under the microscope. Jason airs his views about what all women
want: If they?re (women) happy in bed, they?re happy everywhere . By comparing Medea?s pure
feminism to Jason?s selfish chauvinism, Euripides brokers sympathy and support for feminism from
the audience.
Medea questions the firmly held belief in Greek society that women are weak and passive. Wanting
revenge on Jason for his betrayal of her, Medea must take control of the situation, a stereotypical
masculine quality. Though she cannot become a man or take power like a man, she perceives her

Cheer Tryouts
It s one day until cheer tryouts. For some reason I was thinking about it during the middle of math

what number was that again? I said. Number three, Trista. My neighbor answered me, so I fumbled
with my papers to find the right page. After about a decade, I finally found it, but the teacher had

Christmas Tree Essay
During the holidays, a tree will go up somewhere in the household at some undecided time. It varies
from year to year, but the Christmas tree will usually go up in my room because I prefer to have a
Christmas tree, whereas my parents could go without one. The Christmas tree goes up when it is most
convenient, which varies from year to year. Sometimes this is towards the end of Thanksgiving break,
but other times it may not be until two or three weeks into December. My family has had real trees in

few years. When we used to get a real tree, my father would buy one of the trees for sale at

Walker Ackoff (1969)
Projects as open systems (identifying the project nature in systems terms)
Systems thinking and project management evolved together from meeting the same challenges during
the 1950s (Winch, 2010). The system approach helps to understand the complexity of the processes
and the interrelationships with them. (Walker A. , 2015).
Ackoff (1969) considers system as:
An entity, conceptual or physical, which consists of interdependent parts. Each of a system s elements
is connected to every other element, directly or indirectly, and no sub set of elements is unrelated to
any other sub set .
Walker (2007, p. 67) states that systems theory helps to explain how the project management process
should be structured and hence how the various firms and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types describe the extent of interaction between project actors. Pooled interdependency means,
that actors do not interact straightly, but contribute individual pieces to the whole. Even though they
are not directly linked, their performance affects each other. Sequential interdependency has a serial
form. There is the direct interdependency of units on each other: the output of the entity becomes the
input for the followed one. Both parts make contributions to and are sustained by the whole. In case of
reciprocal interdependency, the outputs of each become the inputs for the others, but not in a serial
form. Each unit poses contingency for the other. Reciprocal interdependency has the highest level of
complexity and dominates in construction projects, which shows the need for the highest level of
integration. (Baccarini, 1996)
Thompson (1967) suggests that sequential interdependency consists of the elements of pooled
interdependency, whereas reciprocal interdependency embraces the elements of both pooled and
sequential. This shows the links between the types of interdependence.
The three types of interdependency have significant implications for how to achieve coordination in
construction, as they imply that the actors must adjust and direct their activities and resources in and
between numerous supply chains and numerous construction sites. (Bankvall,

Dendrite Vs Neuron
In our human brains, there are about one billion nerve cells, called neurons. They transport
information from one part of the brain to the other part of the brain. Which mean neurons are passing
signals to other neurons. Because of this system, we are able to have thoughts, memories and moods.
Neurons have numerous branches, called dendrite. There are branching like fibers helps to receive
information and pass it to other cells. Then on to the axon. Comparing to dendrite, axon is a lot longer
and it takes the information away from the cell body. Each neuron has only one axon but like dendrite,
it has a lot of branches. At the end of the axon, there are small outgrowths, called terminal buttons.

The synaptic gap or the synaptic cleft is where the axon is sending chemical substances to dendrite.
Pre synaptic neuron is transmitting neurotransmitter and post synaptic neuron receives
neurotransmitter. Neurotransmitter can affect or mental abilities and there are different types of them.
Like; Acetylcholine (ACh), Dopamine, Serotonin, Norepinephrine, Gamma aminobutyric acid
(GABA), Glutamate. Acetylcholine helps work the muscles. And also, learning and memory. When
the brain not producing ACh the way they should be; this is how Alzheimer s disease develop.
Dopamine plays the role of moods, motivation, learning, and movement. Malfunctions of this
neurotransmitter is Parkinson s disease and schizophrenia. Parkinson s happens when the brain is
undersupplying of dopamine and schizophrenia is overproducing. Serotonin have an impact on mood,
appetite, regulate sleep, and arousal. When the brain is undersupply of serotonin, mental disease like,
depression are developed. This is why in antidepressant, it helps raise the levels of serotonin.
Norepinephine have the ability to regulate alertness and arousal. Similar to serotonin, depression occur
when there is a low amount levels of norepinephine. GABA is a very major neurotransmitter, it
controls and regulate sleep, relaxation and anxiety. Seizures, tremors, and insomnia involves when the
brain is low with GABA. Glutamate have similar ability to the

Immigration And Open Immigration Policy Essay
On November 10, 2015, two National Economic Experts argued on what the U.S. Immigration policy
should be? Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies argued against
open immigration, while Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration policy analyst for the CATO Institute
argued in favor of freer immigration. Reporter Jonathan Gonzalez of 9News Denver moderated the
debate. The argument made by both experts was supported by strong evidence even though the ideas
appear to be on two extreme ends with no middle ground ideas or compromises. At one extreme there
is a need to reduce or stop immigration while the other extreme advocates for open borders. Even
though Immigration has been an important part of American history, recently it has become a
contentious issue, which is mostly about borders or no borders, and does not take in to account the
macroeconomic aspect of this movement. The two experts argue on how the U.S. immigration
program needs to adjust by scaling back or blocking further immigration vs. open immigration policy
consistent with American values that promotes free market economy.
One of the debate question was about the increase in population from immigration It was estimated
that population will increase up to 35 percent in 50 years from immigration only. Alex Nowrasteh
argued that throughout history the U.S. adult immigrant population has never been over 15 percent.
He asked, what if the U.S. stopped all immigration in the 1800s, what will be

True Wealth, She Presents, By Juliet Schor
In Juliet Schor s True Wealth, she presents, argues for, and envisions an economy, which stresses on
the conceptualization of plentitude. In her publication, the main points can be broken down into three
separate categories: challenges, the ideals of plentitude, and the four fundamentals or solution towards
plentitude. The collection of formal analysis and insight towards key economical concepts and data
serves as a concrete foundation for her proposed framework of a sustainable economic and
environmental future.
In chapter 1, page 12 20, Schor present a series of statements to criticize on the sustainability and
concept of the BAU or defined as business as usual economy. She emphasizes that the BAU economy
will yield less of a return in profitability in the coming decades with a possibility towards economic
stagnation, and an increase in unemployment rate as a result of industrial decline in profitability.
Furthermore, she illustrates how there will be an increase in environmental pollution and damages to
the world, and scarcities in resources due to abnormal climate change in relation to the profitability of
natural resource industries such as agriculture and so forth.
Throughout chapter 2 and 3, Schor condemns the notion of BAU growth and a higher GDP. She
presents an Ecological Footprint, Carbon Footprint, and Biocapacity on page 60, and breaks down the
basis of the Environmental Kuznet Curve (EKC) on page 73 75. Through the analysis of these figures,

Machiavelli The Prince Chapter 6 Summary
D.I.Y. Empire
In The Prince, Machiavelli discusses ways in which a ruler should obtain power and maintain power,
emphasizing the concept of gaining power through virtue versus fortune. Virtue, or virtu in the
original Italian, is defined as the masculine quality of power, and not necessarily tied to ideas of
morality as it is in the English definition.
Gaining power through virtue is the process of gaining power through one s own ability, while gaining
power through fortune is the process of gaining power through means not related to one s own ability
such as wealth or another s grace. In Chapter 6 of The Prince, Machiavelli discusses principalities
gained through virtue and their characteristics.
Rulers who wish to gain such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His enemies are those of the older order, who did well under it and are reluctant to change to a new
order. His allies are those who would do well under the new order but are, as Machiavelli puts it,
lukewarm and, therefore, aren t entirely dedicated. This is in part due to their fear of the new prince s
enemies, those who do not want a new order, and in part due to their skepticism in the ability of the
prince to impose this new order.
As such, it is very dangerous to impose a new order where one may face attack by hostile forces and
have only lukewarm defenders of the new order. It is then necessary to examine how the prince will
utilize his virtue. If he is to beg and ask others for help, he is then seen as week and cannot accomplish
his goal. The alternative is to use force , to arm themselves, and to literally force those who do not
believe in the new order to believe. After all, human nature is changeable and easily changed, but
difficult to maintain in a certain persuasion, after which force is necessary to maintain it. And once
created through great difficulty, it is then easy to maintain, as under the prince s rule, the need for
force will lessen, since those who would rebel are eliminated and the ruler gains reputation and respect
from his subjects.
The examples of such principalities and rulers Machiavellie provides are of Moses, Cyrus, Romulus
and Theseus. In the first example of Moses, Machiavelli admits that the lines are a bit

Judge Haselton s Case Summary
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this
escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and
wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being
examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the
justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos,
and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was
constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes
the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to
111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several
medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains
dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and
unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court
denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also
denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were

Utilization management is described as the implementation of guidelines which reduce unnecessary

consult a professional. These programs are now an accreditation standard for health plans by the
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as they promote consumer directed health (CDH).
The benefits of self care programs show $2.50 to $3.50 saved for every $1 invested by health plans. A
HMO study done showed a decrease in outpatient visits as well as a 2:1 return (Kongstvedt, 2007,
p.192). Another different study showed a decrease in pediatric acute care visits also.
Other programs under DM that have shown to be beneficial to both the members and the health plans
are, shared decision making programs and medical informatics. PPOs, HMOs and CDHPs have
preventive services programs being implemented. Preventive services include services such as:
immunizations, mammograms, physicals, and counseling. An independent study on an indemnity plan
that had prenatal preventive services showed that members who enrolled into this program had an
average of $3200 less per delivery than those who had not (p.194). Health risk appraisals are a
program geared to obtain information from members regarding activities or behaviors that can affect
their health status (Kongstvedt, 2007,p.193). When the health plan obtains this information it

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American...
In 1845 Frederick Douglass published his first book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an
American Slave. This book not only showed people what life was truly like in the eyes of a slave, but
it became instrumental in propelling the abolitionist movement and helping it gain motion all across
the country. Douglass was truly a revolutionary person because throughout the duration of slavery,
African American people were not permitted to be educated. This was considered dangerous. It wasn t
until Frederick Douglass was moved to Boston, where slaves were treated more like people instead of
cattle, that he learned to read and write. When Frederick was 20 years old he escaped to Massachusetts
and began to learn more about the abolitionist movement; this lead to him writing his first book. None
of this would have been possible, however, without Douglass learning how to read and write.
Education is a major key in lifting people of color out of oppression.
The wife of Douglass s master began teaching him to read as he was just a boy at the time and he
appealed to her humanity. When Hugh Auld, Douglass s master, found out about what his wife was
doing he became livid and forbade her to teach him anymore. Auld said that if she taught him to read
he would become ...unmanageable, and of no value to his master. And that it would make Douglass
...discontented and unhappy. (Douglass, 20) It was at this moment that Douglass realized ...the white
man s power to enslave the black man

Robots
Robots always had a special place in mankind s heart. There has always been an aura of mystery and
discovery surrounding them. What is a robot? Wikipedia defines it as an automatically guided
machine which is able to do tasks on its own. That is a good definition of a robot, but there are few
exceptions too. The term robot was first created by Josef Capek. It was used by his brother Karel
Capek in his play Rossum s Universal Robots. The word literally means work in Czech. The science
fiction author Isaac Asimov was the first person to use the word robotics in his short story Liar! One
of the first robots was thought up by Leonardo Da Vinci. It was only a sketch of a mechanical knight,
who was able to sit up, wave his arms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
R2 D2 and C 3PO each had interesting personalities and major parts in the storyline. Movies have also
shown robots in a different way. People thought of the idea that robots will become smarter than
humans. This, they think, will cause the robots to destroy the human race. Another hypothetical end
would be gray goo, which is when a swarm of nanobots will self replicate until they consume the
entire Earth or universe. Even if those events are unlikely to occur, robots can be harmful if they are
not working properly, or they aren t being used properly. There has been two deaths caused by robots.
One was struck by a robot arm. The other was pushed into a grinding machine. Robotics is still
developing, and they still have many flaws in them, many of which are hard to solve. For instance,
robots have no intelligence. This makes it hard for them to correct their mistakes. The robot might be
doing a task wrong, but it won t notice. This makes it important that there is constant human
supervision. Robots also tend to be very pricey. This is because of the many parts in a robot which are
needed to accomplish a task. The future of robotics is coming to us very quickly. Soon, other different
robots will emerge. Nanotechnology creates robots which cannot be seen with the human eye. These
robots can be used in medicine, or they can be used for surgery. Another idea is for robots to change
their form based on the task which they are doing. There is also the idea of robots

Academic Integrity Analysis
Academic integrity is a moral concept that ensures that you are honest in your academic endeavors as
you seek knowledge and accept responsibility for your actions and the consequences of those actions.
As defined by Mohawk College, academic dishonesty refers to any conscious, deliberate or reckless
step or omission taken to obtain academic credit through deception and/or fraudulent means (Mohawk
College, 2008). It involves understanding what constitutes as academic dishonesty, such as
misrepresentation of personal credentials of achievement, plagiarism, cheating on examinations or

Plagiarism is submitting or presenting another s work or ideas as your own without crediting the
source of the material, whether deliberate or unintentional, such as stealing or copying the material,
language or intellectual property of someone else, incorrectly citing works or improperly summarizing
and paraphrasing words, research, or ideas that belong to other authors. Citing, referencing, and
acknowledging sources can prevent most cases of plagiarizing. An example of inappropriate
approaches to papers, essays and assignments is duplicate submission, or submitting the same work
more than once without prior approval, such as handing in the same essay for two different classes.
Examples of inappropriate behaviour related to examinations and tests are cheating, such as talking or
sharing information during an exam or quiz, or impersonation, which is allowing someone to pretend
to be you in a class, test or examination. Misrepresentation of personal credentials of achievement is

Fitzgerald makes a disguised reference to Nick as the scribe in the opening paragraphs of chapter one.
Moreover, he mentions that Gatsby is the man who gives his name to this book (Fitzgerald) but he
does not state this clearly or directly. Breanne L.Heldman mentions in his article that like the novel ,

When they show up, it is almost certain that death is near. After digging a little deeper, one will find
that Koontz knew what he was doing when he picked this name. It is an old Scottish term that is now
commonly referred to as the bogeyman. In an article written by Matt Staggs, this was proven to be a
fact. He goes to say that Even in Scottish folklore, they can appear as omens of death. It is the tiny
details like this that make a film stand out from others, and Sommers did an excellent job of creating
these scary little monsters. They instill a sense of fear in the audience whenever they turn up and

With all the seriousness going on, Sommers somehow manages to throw in a little bit of humor to
keep things light by introducing the dead that linger. For whatever reason, some of the dead decide not
to move on, and their spirits stay trapped with the living. It is always nice to have a bit of comedy
mixed into thriller movies, because then you start to become more relaxed. It is easier to be caught off

relationship and Friar laurence and the Nurse was helping Romeo and Juliet and Friar Laurence was a
Montague and the Nurse was a Capulet. My first point is Juliet tries to warn Romeo about if their

Misrepresented On The Internet
Danny Toffey
Consci 2910
December 5, 2017
Final Essay In our current world, there are many different consumer problems that are taking place at
an increasing rate. These issues are occurring through a wide range of services from retail service
consumer problems, auto consumer problems, credit consumer problems, and many more. The one
consumer problem that has caught my attention on multiple occasions this year would be Internet
Fraud as a whole, especially on social media. The Internet has rapidly become something that is
widely used by many people all over the nation and world, sweeping and striping our societies of
money. People now run companies, and businesses through social media as well. Many occasions
have taken place where things are misrepresented on the Internet, and that s typically how fraud takes
place. Internet sales and fraud can be shown through online ordering. There have been multiple cases
where a buyer would purchase a product online and unfortunately the item is never delivered to the
purchaser. One consumer problem that has been occurring repeatedly this year to my notice would be
the times that people have paid for something that they aren t receiving. There have been many cases
where people order a particular product, or item online with expectancy of a delivery, and they never
get it. One particular example of a consumer problem that comes to my attention has been the amount
of ticketing fraud that occurs through many different websites online.

Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis and The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood
The adolescent years are often associated with turbulence, illusion, and self discovery; however,
Kingsley Amis s Lucky Jim and Margaret
Atwood s The Edible Woman demonstrate that more often than not, the twenties possess these
qualities to a greater extent than adolescence. The age period of the twenties often consists of
relationships, employment and self issues and using the premise of these uncertain times, Amis and
Atwood effectively satire various societal systems. Moreover, Amis and Atwood both implement the
use of the foil, a character who, by contrast with another character, accentuates that character s
distinctive characteristics. In

Thus, Jim was inwardly laughing at Christine s mannerisms and yet, when Carol
Goldsmith asks him What s the joke?, Jim replies Oh, nothing (Amis

show Jim s disparity between his outward and inward character. However, towards the climax of
Lucky
Jim, Jim becomes furious with Bertrand Welch for telling Jim to stay away from Christine and for the
first time, Jim reconciles his thought and his action. The bloody old towser faced boot faced totem

This signifies the maturation of Jim s character and the union of his outward and inward personage.
Moreover, this character growth would never have occurred without the use of a foil because without
the contrast of Christine to Margaret, Jim would have never appreciated
Christine s appealing attributes. Similarly, in The Edible Woman,
Atwood shows the maturation of Marian s character. However, unlike the character of Jim, Marian s
outward and inward character divergence occurs after Marian meets one of her love interests: Duncan.
Atwood contrasts Duncan to Peter,

My Experience With Doctor Visits
Twisted Something was wrong. Every fiber within me was screaming this but my mind refused to
accept it. The nausea, lack of energy, and the constant feeling of being tired were becoming
commonplace in my daily life. The thought of going to see a doctor was not something I was looking
forward to and had not been entertained frequently by me in the past. I had always taken pride in
being active and healthy. Unbeknownst to me, doctor visits would become a regular, unpleasant,
occurrence for me in the months to follow. It was a cool crisp fall morning in October 2013. The air
had the distinct aroma of the winter months that were pressing hard to reveal themselves. A light
breeze softly scattered the leaves gently across our front yard. It held the promise of becoming a
beautiful day, but not for me. Thinking back, I remember how I used to love this time of year, but this
year felt very different. My husband Darrell and I had finally found the perfect house to rent after a
year of searching. Even though we hated the process of moving it was something we had looked
forward to for such a long time. Darrell was up early that morning packing, labeling, and busying
himself with various other tasks required for such an event. Normally this was something I would
gladly have jumped right in and helped with. However, I was not as energetic as he was. I had noticed
lately I was lacking in the motivation category and everyday chores seemed to drain me quite easily.

The Strategies For Development Today
Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on
the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the
past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to
help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until
they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully
for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day
strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for development used today are
import substitution, state socialism, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over
time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country
produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without
causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its
weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to
manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough
situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become
competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of
important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since
domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for
technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them
remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market
to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called
state socialism. This strategy spread after World War II to

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that
were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The
Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for
ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us
abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system.
If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have
common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us into a well
put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the boss/manager
of the kitchen and Josh who was the other person who ran the kitchen with me. Josh and I were not the
ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that happened because
ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something. Between the three of
us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money throughout the summer
for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure people were satisfied but
because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is key in every group to
succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.

The History and Future of Zoos Essay

of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on
preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos
started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history.
The concepts of zoos have been around for centuries throughout the world. The earliest known zoo of

It took nearly two hundred years for agriculture to get used to American soil and its wildlife.
Author Vernon Kisling, of Zoo and aquarium history: ancient animal collections to zoological gardens

royal menageries and set examples for the American culture. The first zoo to be built in America was

This argument has people agreeing and disagreeing with this matter. Unlike older and more experienced drivers, the young generation of drivers makes up most of the causes of life threatening accidents. While pursuing her ambition Medea disregards many of the feminine stereotypes/ characteristics of the patriarchal Greek society. She questions the inequality of women in a patriarchal society, contradicts Jason?s chauvinist beliefs, challenges the stereotype that women are weak and passive and completely disregards the feminine role of motherhood. Then she was transferred to the home of her husband where she was to fulfill her principal function, the bearing and rearing children. Medea shows the inequality of women in Greek society. The betrayal of Medea by Jason through his marriage to another woman enrages Medea. She begins to question the role and position of women in a patriarchal society. Are we women not the wretchedness? However, a husband tired of domesticity, Goes out sees friends and enjoys himself?. (p.8and 9, Medea). Medea compares the virtual slavery of women to the absolute freedom of men, showing the inequality and disempowerment of women in society at that time. Jason?s chauvinist beliefs are put under the microscope. Jason airs his views about what all women want: If they?re (women) happy in bed, they?re happy everywhere . By comparing Medea?s pure feminism to Jason?s selfish chauvinism, Euripides brokers sympathy and support for feminism from the audience. Medea questions the firmly held belief in Greek society that women are weak and passive. Wanting revenge on Jason for his betrayal of her, Medea must take control of the situation, a stereotypical masculine quality. The system approach helps to understand the complexity of the processes and the interrelationships with them. (Walker A. , 2015). Ackoff (1969) considers system as: An entity, conceptual or physical, which consists of interdependent parts. Each of a system s elements is connected to every other element, directly or indirectly, and no sub set of elements is unrelated to any other sub set . Pooled interdependency means, that actors do not interact straightly, but contribute individual pieces to the whole. Even though they are not directly linked, their performance affects each other. Sequential interdependency has a serial form. There is the direct interdependency of units on each other: the output of the entity becomes the input for the followed one. Both parts make contributions to and are sustained by the whole. In case of reciprocal interdependency, the outputs of each become the inputs for the others, but not in a serial form. Each unit poses contingency for the other. Reciprocal interdependency has the highest level of complexity and dominates in construction projects, which shows the need for the highest level of integration. (Baccarini, 1996) Thompson (1967) suggests that sequential interdependency consists of the elements of pooled interdependency, whereas reciprocal interdependency embraces the elements of both pooled and sequential. This shows the links between the types of interdependence. The three types of interdependency have significant implications for how to achieve coordination in construction, as they imply that the actors must adjust and direct their activities and resources in and between numerous supply chains and numerous construction sites. • 16. Immigration And Open Immigration Policy Essay On November 10, 2015, two National Economic Experts argued on what the U.S. Immigration policy should be? Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies argued against open immigration, while Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration policy analyst for the CATO Institute argued in favor of freer immigration. Reporter Jonathan Gonzalez of 9News Denver moderated the debate. The argument made by both experts was supported by strong evidence even though the ideas appear to be on two extreme ends with no middle ground ideas or compromises. At one extreme there is a need to reduce or stop immigration while the other extreme advocates for open borders. Even though Immigration has been an important part of American history, recently it has become a contentious issue, which is mostly about borders or no borders, and does not take in to account the macroeconomic aspect of this movement. The two experts argue on how the U.S. immigration program needs to adjust by scaling back or blocking further immigration vs. open immigration policy consistent with American values that promotes free market economy. One of the debate question was about the increase in population from immigration It was estimated that population will increase up to 35 percent in 50 years from immigration only. In her publication, the main points can be broken down into three separate categories: challenges, the ideals of plentitude, and the four fundamentals or solution towards plentitude. The collection of formal analysis and insight towards key economical concepts and data serves as a concrete foundation for her proposed framework of a sustainable economic and environmental future. In chapter 1, page 12 20, Schor present a series of statements to criticize on the sustainability and concept of the BAU or defined as business as usual economy. She emphasizes that the BAU economy will yield less of a return in profitability in the coming decades with a possibility towards economic stagnation, and an increase in unemployment rate as a result of industrial decline in profitability. Furthermore, she illustrates how there will be an increase in environmental pollution and damages to the world, and scarcities in resources due to abnormal climate change in relation to the profitability of natural resource industries such as agriculture and so forth. Throughout chapter 2 and 3, Schor condemns the notion of BAU growth and a higher GDP. Empire In The Prince, Machiavelli discusses ways in which a ruler should obtain power and maintain power, emphasizing the concept of gaining power through virtue versus fortune. Virtue, or virtu in the original Italian, is defined as the masculine quality of power, and not necessarily tied to ideas of morality as it is in the English definition. Gaining power through virtue is the process of gaining power through one s own ability, while gaining power through fortune is the process of gaining power through means not related to one s own ability such as wealth or another s grace. His enemies are those of the older order, who did well under it and are reluctant to change to a new order. His allies are those who would do well under the new order but are, as Machiavelli puts it, lukewarm and, therefore, aren t entirely dedicated. This is in part due to their fear of the new prince s enemies, those who do not want a new order, and in part due to their skepticism in the ability of the prince to impose this new order. As such, it is very dangerous to impose a new order where one may face attack by hostile forces and have only lukewarm defenders of the new order. It is then necessary to examine how the prince will utilize his virtue. If he is to beg and ask others for help, he is then seen as week and cannot accomplish his goal. The alternative is to use force , to arm themselves, and to literally force those who do not believe in the new order to believe. After all, human nature is changeable and easily changed, but difficult to maintain in a certain persuasion, after which force is necessary to maintain it. And once created through great difficulty, it is then easy to maintain, as under the prince s rule, the need for force will lessen, since those who would rebel are eliminated and the ruler gains reputation and respect from his subjects. The examples of such principalities and rulers Machiavellie provides are of Moses, Cyrus, Romulus and Theseus. In the first example of Moses, Machiavelli admits that the lines are a bit ... In the court case being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to 111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. This book not only showed people what life was truly like in the eyes of a slave, but it became instrumental in propelling the abolitionist movement and helping it gain motion all across the country. Douglass was truly a revolutionary person because throughout the duration of slavery, African American people were not permitted to be educated. This was considered dangerous. It wasn t until Frederick Douglass was moved to Boston, where slaves were treated more like people instead of cattle, that he learned to read and write. When Frederick was 20 years old he escaped to Massachusetts and began to learn more about the abolitionist movement; this lead to him writing his first book. Moreover, Amis and Atwood both implement the use of the foil, a character who, by contrast with another character, accentuates that character s distinctive characteristics. In particular, ... Thus, Amis uses Christine, one of Jim s love interests who acts as a foil to Margaret, as a tool to show Jim s disparity between his outward and inward character. However, towards the climax of Lucky Jim, Jim becomes furious with Bertrand Welch for telling Jim to stay away from Christine and for the first time, Jim reconciles his thought and his action. The bloody old towser faced boot faced totem pole on a crap reservation, Dixon thought. You bloody old towser faced boot faced totem pole on a crap reservation, he said (Amis 209). This signifies the maturation of Jim s character and the union of his outward and inward personage. Moreover, this character growth would never have occurred without the use of a foil because without the contrast of Christine to Margaret, Jim would have never appreciated Christine s appealing attributes. Similarly, in The Edible Woman, Atwood shows the maturation of Marian s character. However, unlike the character of Jim, Marian s outward and inward character divergence occurs after Marian meets one of her love interests: Duncan. Atwood contrasts Duncan to Peter, ... • 33. My Experience With Doctor Visits Twisted Something was wrong. Every fiber within me was screaming this but my mind refused to accept it. The nausea, lack of energy, and the constant feeling of being tired were becoming commonplace in my daily life. The thought of going to see a doctor was not something I was looking forward to and had not been entertained frequently by me in the past. I had always taken pride in being active and healthy. Unbeknownst to me, doctor visits would become a regular, unpleasant, occurrence for me in the months to follow. It was a cool crisp fall morning in October 2013. The air had the distinct aroma of the winter months that were pressing hard to reveal themselves. A light breeze softly scattered the leaves gently across our front yard. It held the promise of becoming a beautiful day, but not for me. Thinking back, I remember how I used to love this time of year, but this year felt very different. My husband Darrell and I had finally found the perfect house to rent after a year of searching. Even though we hated the process of moving it was something we had looked forward to for such a long time. Darrell was up early that morning packing, labeling, and busying himself with various other tasks required for such an event. Normally this was something I would gladly have jumped right in and helped with. However, I was not as energetic as he was. I had noticed lately I was lacking in the motivation category and everyday chores seemed to drain me quite easily. This feeling had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Strategies For Development Today Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for development used today are import substitution, state socialism, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. This strategy spread after World War II to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Robert Louv s Last Child In The Woods The days of making mud pies, running around the neighborhood, getting poison ivy from exploring the river are dwindling down with the change in society and cultural values. Over the past few decades, children have become less and less familiar and engaged with nature. Children of the millennial generation are encountering new issues defined by a term identified by Robert Louv in his book, Last Child in The Woods, as Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD). This disorder is not a medical term, but it is an appropriate and relatable term for many children to describe the growing disconnect between them and nature. • 37. A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system. If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us into a well put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the boss/manager of the kitchen and Josh who was the other person who ran the kitchen with me. Josh and I were not the ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that happened because ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something. Between the three of us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money throughout the summer for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure people were satisfied but because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is key in every group to succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system. Specifically, I am going to look at the writing that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The History and Future of Zoos Essay Zoos present a certain blend of nature and culture. They have always provided a way to bring natural wildlife and urban Americans together as a means of entertainment. Yet, throughout the years the role of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history. The concepts of zoos have been around for centuries throughout the world. People began to realize that the amount of wildlife that had been present to the early colonies were not inexhaustible (Deal 2). Those early settlers had no idea how abundant wild fauna in the new land or how to utilize it. It took nearly two hundred years for agriculture to get used to American soil and its wildlife. Author Vernon Kisling, of Zoo and aquarium history: ancient animal collections to zoological gardens makes a great statement: Cultural institutions, such as zoos, change like the cultures that foster them (Kisling 163). For modern zoos, they were said to have begun in London in the 1820s with London s Regent Park Zoo (Graetz). These modern zoos, as well as those in Germany, began to take the place of royal menageries and set examples for the American culture. The first zoo to be built in America was established in Philadelphia in 1874 (Philadelphia zoo). During the time that America was transitioning from an agricultural nation to an industrial one. Before the grand opening of America s first zoo, people would gather and pay shillings to see animals such as lions and elephants displayed at places like general stores and museums.
