Comparing Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis...
Growth is inevitable and the most anticipated quest of man. It is a never ending quest to evolve,
fuelled by the constant hope for survival. Once natural growth halts, man s focus shifts to the
growth within. The coming of age, associates itself with this transformation from child to man, the
step of letting go of childish ways and moving on to more mature things. The need for such a
dramatic transformation is questioned by Miguel de Cervantesand Lewis Carroll in their texts, Don
Quixoteand Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. While the texts follow two contrasting characters,
they are brought together by the theme of fantasy. Cervantes Don Quixote is an old gentleman of
noble lineage who becomes tired of the monotony and the lack of... Show more content on

[is] Dorotea in disguise, it does not fit into Quixote s frame of thinking and is therefore rejected,
Can you be in your right mind? This irony is used by Cervantes to introduce the reader to the
issue of perspective. In this world there are two paradigms which are followed: one is to see the
world through the fantastical and idealistic madness of Quixote, and the other is to view it
through the realism adopted by the other characters of the text. Quixote s madness creates a world
where everything is taken at face value, not allowing the idea of deception to exist. When the issue
of deception arises, he formulates alternate explanations which are in keeping with his perspective,
stating that ...everything that happens in this place is brought about by enchantment. The alternate
view which is held by most of the other players is that, anyone could see when he said that those
windmills were giants, and those friars mules were dromedaries and those flock of sheep were
enemy armies . The hyperbolic images in Sancho s sarcasm give the reader an insight into the sheer
vastness of Quixote s generalisation of his belief. It is Quixote s differing school of thought which
Cervantes uses to establish his alienation from the sanity of the constructed world. Contrastingly, In
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice is the voice of sanity in the phantasmagorical setting of
Wonderland. However, this also

Literary Analysis Of Classical Landscape By Charles Sheeler
Classical landscape by Charles Sheeler is an exterior oil on canvas of the Estate of Mrs. Edsel
B. Ford, Grosse Pointe Farms (figure 1) filled with deep, hidden irony. It was painted in 1931,
and is based on a watercolor study. It s a calm, clean, and serene painting that takes your breath
away. It s depicting a place someone would want to be in, a place where things get done, and a
place where one can go to achieve this idea of the American dream. Charles Sheeler used
American industry as a major theme of his art, his work lends itself to an analysis in terms of
geometric forms he examines his subject matter so closely in order to fully understand the
composition, the effect, and the design he wants to depict. Sheeler painted the plant s exterior as
an idyll, a beautiful, picturesque scene of the industrial age booming; however, in reality the
United States was in the middle of the worst years of the Great Depression. Therefore, this painting
done in Sheeler s hyper realistic artistic style is not actually depicting what the factory actually
looked like.
He is using his photographs to distort and change the perspective in order to better suit his patrons.
Charles s Sheeler is a commissioned artist. Classical Landscape was commissioned by Edsel Ford
in order to promote the Ford Company and increase the overall feelings toward industrialization .
Sheeler achieved this due to Classical Landscapes light color palette, clean lines, reduced forms, and
intense knowledge of the subject matter, his painting only hints at the machines domination of
humankind , allowing for viewers to look at the painting and feel comforted by the lack of human
presence but not overwhelmed by it. Sheeler s depiction of industrialization lacked human presence.
This was uncommon at the time, and created a very different effect than other artists did. He
focused on the building in isolation rather than on the hectic activity around the assembly line this
switched the focus form not on the people of America but on the technological advances and the
progress America was making. Looking further into the painting s subject matter, it is intriguing to
see that Sheeler chose to depict something on cite that dealt with the

The Age Of Anxiety By Auden
On the Ages and Stages
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an Ocean; if a few drops of the Ocean are dirty,
the Ocean does not become dirty . Mahatma Gandhi
Humanity has always petitioned the idea of impending doom upon Earth and its inhabitants, that
our sins will soon spill upon the dried cracking crust and salvation awaits the worthy above with
open gates and waterfalls. Despite religious conceptions, humans still walk the material world;
searching every crevice of knowledge hoping that one day meaning will be found in our sinful
journey through time. Anxiety of what awaits the ending days plunges humans deeper into fear and
doubt, giving W. H. Auden a needles amount of material for his sardonic masterpiece on the human
function, The Age of Anxiety. Auden truly encapsulates diversity in his writing, always
transitioning from prose to verse and from thought to speech. Auden begins part three of The Age
of Anxiety in prose with At first all is dark and each walks alone. What they share is only the
feelings of remoteness and desertion, of having marched for miles and miles, of having lost their
bearings, of a restless urge to find water , then beginning the dialogue in verse with
Groping through fog, I begin to hear
A salt lake lapping:
Dotterels and dunlins on its dark shore .
The variations in The Age of Anxiety allow for infinite intrigue just like with music, hearing the
same thing is boring and dry. Looking past rhetorical analysis and

Second World War the relationships between the countries were extended as Iran worked in
partnership with the Allies, allowing the transportation of war material through Iran to the
beleaguered Russians in the Caucasus region. In the Aftermath of the war and the beginning of the
Cold War the US deepened its tie and used Iran as its fortification against Soviet expansion and as a
source of stability in the oil rich Persian Gulf. Indeed, the contentment policy persuaded by the
United States helped Iran to receive military and economic support and Western technological

and ownership. Closely held corporations are privately owned companies that have shareholders
that own personal shares in the company. A trade market does not exist for shares in closely
held corporations. Our text states that closely held corporations is one whose shares are held by
members of a family or by relatively few persons (Miller, R.L., 2016, p. 464). Publicly traded
corporations are owned by its stockholders, which is the public and the selling and trading of stocks

How Did Morgan Spurlock Change Over Time
Morgan Spurlock had changed a great deal over 30 days of eating only fast food. For 30 days, he
had to eat three McDonald s meals per day and had to supersize his meal when offered. Obviously,
he could only eat what Mcdo offered on the menu. His health of course deteriorated, but his morale
also took a blow.
First, Spurlock gained weight. In total, after a month of fast food he had gained 11,1 kg. His body
mass had increased by 13 percent and his body fat by 7 percent. In terms of BMI (body mass
index), which is defined as the individual s body mass divided by the square of their height, he
went from 23,8 to 26,94. On the BMI scale, he went from normal to overweight.
Next, concerning his health, the results were frightening. Even the doctors

Logos And Ethos In Carrie Underwood s Blown Away
Blown Away by Carrie Underwood shows many examples of pathos, ethos, and logos in the song.
The emotions within the song are very heart wrenching and dark and the sound of the song is
portrayed this way. The sound of the song is very dark and intense with a fast loud beat
throughout which correlates to the lyrics and the video of the song as well. Carrie Underwood
establishes her credibility by being who she is as a country singer and has been for the past ten
years. She also shows logos in her song by telling the state in which it is happening which she
repeatedly said was Oklahoma. Blown Away is written to people who have experienced similar
circumstances with violence in their life at home and for people to hear about a story. The music...

The song tells of an emotional breakup and the emotions shown in the song are sadness and
anger. After the breakup, she emotionally was torn apart and continuously will want him. Miley
Cyrus shows credibility by being who she is as a much known singer. The sound of the song
automatically starts with high and fast beats which sets the intense scene for the song. By the
middle of the song, the sound drops to a much slower beat but then back up for the final chorus.
Wrecking Ball was written to the guy who caused her to feel the way she did. In the first line of
the song, she uses the words clawed and chained which are not normal words used for people in
a relationship. She then says she fell under his spell meaning that she was into the relationship
more of then him. She also relate the death of their relationship to we re ashes in the ground.
Within the entire song when she sung the word wreck, it was emphasized and had a longer beat.
The last two lines of Wrecking Ball was yeah, you, you wreck me, repeated twice also for emphasis.

her feelings. By the second chorus and the increased beat she begins swinging on a ball, creating

Kosovo Research Paper
Can Kosovo ever be a strong enough country to stand on its own is a question that we have to
ask! Will they ever become a place that will be able to grow to a power nation? With their
enemies next door to them; will they be able to stand and fight for their country? Do they have
enough resources to help them just to get started on a road back to be a country that the people
will be proud of? With the US and all their allies helping them; what state will we be in financially
with all the other debt that we have? These are the question I have to ask you concerning this
country, the country of Kosovo! Kosovo was once part of Yugoslavia from the year 1918 until 1989.
In the year of 1989 was the fall of Yugoslavia. During that year, NATO stepped in to assist Kosovo
in declaring its independence from Serbia, a nation that have suppressed this country for many
years. Even though Kosovo has declared their independence from Serbia it is not recognized by
many countries. The U.S and many European countries recognize them as being an independent

Role Of Religion In Ancient Egyptian Culture
For starters, how many of us actually realize how different the role of religion varies in each
culture. In Egypt, religion importance is not the same for someone else, for example what may be
a factor in one s culture may not be a factor in another culture that one embrace. Unlike other
cultures beliefs, Egyptian cultures consisted of a list of things, for example medicine, art, laws,
agriculture and more are all tied into their religious beliefs.
Also, Most aspects of Egyptian religion can be traced to the people s observation of the
environment. Fundamental was the love of sunlight, the solar cycle and the comfort brought by the
regular rhythms of nature, and the agricultural cycle surrounding the rise and fall of the Nile.

Each and every god Egyptians worshiped had more than one power in the eyes of the believers as
well as sometimes some gods had a combination of what individual gods already had. It is very
hard to establish the number of gods that were praised by Ancient Egyptians. Also, Gods in ancient
Egypt were always superior to humans, they would live their life like humans. The only
difference between a human and a God was the standing possibility to be able to live again.
Unlike humans, Gods were forever immortal. Also, unlike humans gods came in different forms.
The early gods is the fact that a single deity could be represented in human form, in zoomorphic
form, or in a mixed animal human form. Although the animal forms and therianthropic (i.e., part
human, part animal) forms slightly predate anthropoid manifestations. (Brewer, Teeter, 1).
Ancient Egyptians believed in more than one practice, but it is unlikely that the gods were
derived from totemic animals or that the Egyptians practiced zoolatry (i.e., worship of animals).
Rather, animal forms were probably used to suggest metaphorically something about the
characteristics of the god. (Brewer, Teeter, 1). Some of the things we despise of now wasn t
frowned upon ancient Egyptians religion. For example, The King of the Underworld Osiris
was married to his sister, where he was killed by his brother and brought back to life by his wife
to conceive a son. The son then despised the Uncle and set out his death wish. ( List of 15 Most
Worshiped Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses , 1.) In societies today, being with a member of
your family is very frowned upon and consider unapporiate. Whereas in ancient Egyptian culture the
importance of keeping the bloodline very pure was more than

How Lean Manufacturing Helps Our Economy Essay
Lean manufacturing plays a major role in our economy and yet it is almost unheard of outside
manufacturing. It is important to know lean manufacturing relates to our individual lives and how
we can all benefit from this concept. With current slow economic recovery, it is imperative that we
find avenues that consumers can get through these difficult times, but also to implement the lessons
learned values into future thinking. The rising cost of goods and the unemployment rate high, lean
manufacturingis helping to keep cost low and jobs in America where they belong.

(Return on Investment) would be used to reinvest in product development and refining
manufacturing processes.
Lean Manufacturing is actually a concept by way of the removal of all waste from any process
associated with expense with the goal of a greater return by introducing additional products or
processes that would be invested for a greater return on every dollar spent. For instance, how much
more groceries can a family purchase if they could get paid for the right purchases made throughout
the month, without sacrificing quality and usefulness.
The concept of Lean Manufacturing was not quickly adopted by the United States manufacturing
companies because of the cost incurred by changing the old manufacturing processes; the perceived
need did not outweigh the benefits. In the 1970 s and the1980 s manufacturing companies in the
United States took a closer look when Japanese and Chinese companies were selling similar
products as the United States like cars, trucks, electronics, and toy, but at lower cost to the U.S.
consumers. Companies within the United States urgently sought out experts from Japan to
understand this new method due to declining revenues and the realization they were being forced
out of market share. They learned that the concept of Lean Manufacturing was to change the goals
by exposing waste in all areas within the manufacturing process with an increased focus to satisfy

Genetic Cloning
A controversial issue of the twenty first century is the possible application of new techniques in
genetic engineering to produce human clones. Up until now genetic engineering and cloning has
been used to clone plants, unicellular organisms, amphibians and simple mammals. This has led to
significant advances in agriculture, industry, and medicine. Newer techniques in genetic
engineering have enabled scientists to clone more complex mammals and opened up the possibility
of cloninghumans. Although there are many potential benefits to this technology, the prospect of
cloning humans has raised many practical, ethical and religious dilemmas that are currently being

The key to this new procedure was to time the cell cycle of the mammary cell with that of the
egg. In order to do this nutrients were withheld from the mammary cell, which stopped it from
dividing. The nucleus of the mammary cell was transferred into the recipient egg. An electrical
current was given to the egg, which provided the energy that was needed for fertilization to
occur. The egg began to divide and when it became an embryo it was placed into another sheep.
The lamb that was born, Dolly was a clone of the donor of the original mammary cell (Kolata
27). This type of cloning is very exciting. This technique may be used to mass produce animals
that mimic human diseases for research purposes or to create animals with genetically modified
organs that could be safely transplanted into humans. It could also be used to mass produce
animals for drug production or to improve livestock (Clone 1).
This new technique can theoretically also be used to clone humans. However, there are technical
difficulties in cloning using a human egg. The unfertilized egg of a mammal has a supply of
proteins that is used by the embryo until the embryos own genes can make the proteins for itself.
Sheep embryos rely on their own genes after four cell divisions which is apparently enough time
for the foreign nucleus to take over and reprogram the egg. However, human

The Importance Of Distance Education Over Traditional...
Approximately 7 billion people live in the world and the number is getting higher every day.
How many people have internet access? Roughly 3 billion people have access to the internet.
No wonder online education is on the rise. But why? What is so wrong with a traditional
education. Why are more colleges offering online courses? Why are more kids being
homeschooled? Even though you won t meet a lot of new people, experience a lot of different
cultures, or even become that social butterfly, for people who do not function well in a traditional
classroom, I think you should choose distance education over traditional education. For stay at
home parents or even single parents, it might be hard to get an education on your schedule. For
military families, you may move all over, going from school to school, never really continuing
what your learning from school to school. Distance education can keep you connected to your
school anywhere you are. First, for people who do not function very well in a traditional
classroom, I think you should choose distance education over traditional education. Distance
education, or homeschooling, allows for more individualized instruction, based on the students
needs. It isn t as structured as a traditional education. According to Redford, Battle, and Bielick
(20707), the most important reason parents are homeschooling was the environment of other
schools. Other reasons include providing religious instruction, provide a nontraditional approach
to the students education, and to provide moral instruction (p. 12). In public or private school,
you have no control over what your child is learning and how they are learning it. With distance
education, or homeschooling, you can. Are you afraid they will miss out on the opptunities that
traditional schools provide. A friend of mine home schools her children after a few years of being
in a public school system. They belong to a local co op where all the other distance education
students and families get together and play sports, interact, even have a prom for high school
students. Your student can now participate in distance education and get the same opportunity as a
traditional education. Additionally, for stay at home parents or single

The essence of gratitude is acknowledging and appreciating the good in your life and doing so
surfaces endless benefits that contribute to well being. While this hypothesis seems rather
indisputable there is evidence and research to further convince the sceptics. Emmons and
McCullough garnered their conclusions through an experiment in which different groups
documented their lives in different manners. Through daily and weekly journals the participants
were asked to record negative occurrences, neutral events, or things they were grateful for
respectively. The findings were conclusive; the group that kept tabs on things they were grateful
for consistently reported a greater sense of well being (Sansone and Sansone, 18 22). The
methods Emmons and McCullough used to conduct this experiment were very professional and
free of any bias. By tailoring the experiment to allow for as much participant control as possible
there is little room for influence on their part. Additional research from Froh and Sefick in
partnership with Emmons echoes these sentiments. The trio conducted a study in which 221
adolescents were tracked and those who routinely counted their blessings experienced enhanced

The Growth Of Technology In The 21st Century
The Growth of Technology in the 21st Century and What It Stands For
Technology is continuously advancing in the 21st century, where medical research is being put into
practice, cars being modified to help reduce carbon emissions, and so on, all due to the constant
upgrades in technology. With it constantly advancing as time goes on, so has society and the people
that has lived in it, their lifestyles constantly changing in relation to how technology is changing,
with many benefits that are yielded from it, alongside with the negatives that can bring the society
down. Modern technology has made complex tasks possible with the use of robots and large
machines and tools is used to operate complex tasks, tasks that cannot be done by human skills.
People create and develop new inventions to overcome their physical limitations in what they can
do, and that is what technology does for us letting us do things that are not normally possible
through human actions such as contacting a person from across the world or providing an
abundance of light. Technology is the fruit of human ingenuity and tentative labor, whose
progression in the 21st century should still continue for the betterment of the people, while keeping
certain dangerous factors in check such as hacks and accentuating violence.
Communication has always been a core part of people s lives and it does not seem to be ending
anytime soon. Technology has drastically expanded this core aspect of people s lives, with the usage

Tourette s syndrome is a disorder that makes its host produce unwanted movement and/or sound.
The condition may contain one or both symptoms. Tourette s disorder is an issue with the

is beyond the hosts control. The disorder is named for the pioneer in French neurosurgery, Dr.

Police Interrogations And False Confessions
Police Interrogations and False Confessions
Introduction
Police interrogation is a technique that police have used to gather information from anyone
involved with a crime for hundreds of years. Police interrogations can last a few minutes to
several hours. The police have a right to continue questioning the suspect until they ask for a
lawyer (Kassin, 2013). The suspects call for a lawyer is a right under the Miranda Rights. In the
process of interrogation, the police are not allowed to use cruel or any unusual methods to collect
information, the law agents are trained with techniques to get the suspects to answer all the
questions. However, this is not usually the case because sometimes the police go overboard in
getting the suspects to answer their questions. This interrogation in some cases has led to false
confessions leading to the wrong charging of the suspects. An approximate of one out of four
confessions includes false confessions (Redlich, 2009). The false confessions made by suspects beg
the question on how the police influence false confessions. This research will discuss the various
techniques used by the police in interrogating suspects and how they misuse the systems to
influence false confessions.
Police Tactics and False Confessions

often by DNA evidence, after falsely giving false confessions to a crime or offence that they did

The Prospect Theory, A Behavioral Economic Theory
Prospect theory is a Behavioural Economics Theory which tries to understand how people take
decisions in terms of two alternatives, which have a probabilistic nature. These decision making
processes and their respective outcomes also involve risk. An important point of the Prospect
Theory is that it considers the fact that the outcomes of the alternatives are known. The basic idea
behind the theory is that people base their decisions on potential gains and losses, rather than

In the equation, xi refers to the total number of possible outcomes and pi shows the probability of
those respective outcomes. In the equation w is referred to as the weighing function for the
probabilities which therefore shows that people tend to overreact to certain situations of smaller
probability as compared to larger probabilities.
MAJOR FEATURES
1) The coefficients of values are just gains and losses which are not to be confused with final
wealth. 2) The model is able to represent greater sensitivity towards losses as compared to gains.
3) The function is convex for losses that would occur out of the possible outcomes and concave for
any sort of gain.
4) Weighing function helps to overweigh smaller probabilities.

Sources of Conflict BetweenPalestine and Israel
The conflict between Palestine and Israel stems from disagreements about the land, differences in
the opinions of historical change of boundaries, differences in religion and also disagreements
among international actors that have influenced how the conflict has played out since the
boundaries of Israel were drawn up after World War II.
This paper will focus on the armed conflict between Palestine, specifically the Hamas backed Gaza
strip and the state of Israel that has led to the loss of many lives on both sides, while at the same
time, created tensions between state actors that make the idea of this conflict being eventually
resolved almost impossible unless there is some major change in the internal and external
environment. The armed conflict that the paper describes is between Hamas which is viewed as
a Islamist terrorist group by Israel, the United States and several other countries with their ultimate
goal being winning back the land that they claim to be theirs and also turning Palestine into an
Islamic fundamentalist state. On the other hand, the state of Israel defines itself as a Jewish and
Democratic State, with 75% of their population being Jewish which would make it a Jewish
majority state. Israel also governs itself on the Basic Laws of Israel, which include the Israeli
nationality law that in effect grants the right to all Jewish people the right to return to Israel and
automatically be able to receive Israeli citizenship and establishes Jerusalem as the

The Psychodynamic Approach To Depression
Psychological issues are often regarded as being permeant. Patients are so called cured and
receive treatment to better themselves but are referred to also as being in remission . The stigma
of the being labeled as having a mental illnesses is a permanent label that follows a person
everyday of their life. A strength of the sociocultural approach to depression is the treatment
involved in helping the patient. Through the use of treatments such as family therapy, the
psychologist is treating the family as a whole rather than the single person who is depressed.
Family therapy has the ability to drastically increase the chances of a person to recover from
depression and enter remission. Society is primarily responsible for individuals for causing... Show

Genetic variants have a small effect on overall risks of developing diseases and disorders but a
need for environmental factors as well is required to develop disorders such as depression. From
the biological approach, an issue arises with the claims that genes have the ability to cause
depression due to the fact that studies have shown no single gene has the power alone to cause
someone to develop depression which shows it is necessary for a sociocultural factors to be
involved. A study was done to determine the extent of the relationship between twins and the
genetic inheritance of depression. Nurnberger and Gershon (1982) conducted a study to reveal the
relationship between genes and depression (Miller 47). The study included a review of the results
of seven twins who suffered from depression. The concordance rates for depression were higher in
monozygotic twins, 65% average, than dizygotic twins, 14% average. Although the concordance
rates were higher in monozygotic twins, the concordance rate is still very low in comparison to
100%. Therefore, the study cannot definitely state anything that says genetic inheritance is 100%
responsible for the concordance rates without taking into considerations environmental and
psychological factors. The sociocultural level of analysis takes a

Research Paper On Sally Ride
Sally Ride: A Name to Remember When growing up, a lot of kids say they want to be an astronaut
when they are older. This was not the case for Sally Ride. She claimed that she did not want to be
an astronaut and knew that there were little to no women in that profession. Then one day, the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sent out flyers looking for women to
become apart of the program and that changed Sally Rides life forever. NASA mainly recruited
white males who were in the military to work for them. It was not until the Equal Employment
Opportunity Act was passed that in a way forced NASA to consider women for some of their
jobs. NASA then created a new job for astronauts which was to help the pilot on space flights
(Friedman). Sally Ride was a very good student in high school and decided to go to Stanford
University for college. At Stanford, she got her bachelor s degree in physics which she then
narrowed it down to X ray astronomy and free electron laser research. Towards the end of her
schooling at Stanford, Ride came across an article in the school newspaper talking about how
NASA was in search for scientist to become specialists on one of their shuttles (Freni 151). Ride,
just like 8,079 other people, sent in an application hoping to become a member of NASA s 1978
astronautclass. After a lengthy wait, Ride was told that she was one out of six women to be an
astronaut candidate (Freni 152). On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride became the first

Cecilia is without any doubt one of the main characters of Atonement written by Ian McEwan.
He is able to show the reader her passionate, pensive and passive state through her behaviour and
attitude in various scenes. Her character is not as deep as Briony s or Robbie s as the reader
does not get many chapters in which one can hear her thoughts and feelings. Nevertheless Cecilia

However Robbie does so out of concern for Polly who was cleainig the floor. Furthermore when
the incident of the vase occurs, she does not acknowledge that it is their attraction which makes
them nervous, so she links it to class difference again. Her undressing near the fountain and
plunging in the fountain suggests that Cecilia views herself as one of the Furies or Erinyes, the
merciless Goddesses of vengeance in Greek and Roman mythology. She thinks that if the
drowns, it will be Robbie s punishment, drowning would be his punishment . This reminds the
reader of Cecilia s over dramatisation. Cecilia s thought about how she cannot smoke in her
father s presence and how she disobeys this rule makes the reader think that she believes that
since she went to University and spent three years amongst the most sophistacated, she is now
indipendent. The lector witnesses Cecilia s preparations in the dressing for dinner. She is
unsettled and changes her dress twice before she is satisfied with her appearance. It seems that
she wants to impress someone, maybe Robbie. This idea commences when Cecilia goes infront of
the mirror before going out to fill the vase with water, ...she wondered about going out to Robbie.

The middle member of the Bakken Formation is a calcareous sandstone that formed offshore in a
regressional environment that formed with a rapid lowering of sea level.
One of the primary structures in the Bakken Formation is the Nesson Anticline which lies in the
northwestern part of North Dakota (Schieber, 2001). The Nesson Anticline in North Dakota trends
North for 176 km. The Williston Basin as a whole is a sedimentary basin that is located west on the
North American craton that dates Paleozoic in age, making the Bakken Formation an intracratonic
formation. The Williston Basin is located in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Saskatchewan,
and Manitoba. However, the Bakken Formation is not the only formation within the Williston
Basin, however it will be the only formation discussed in this paper.
II. Formation of the Bakken
The Bakken Formation is a Late Devonian to Early Mississippian formation within the Williston
Basin as seen below in Figure 1. To understand the process that formed the Bakken it is necessary
to understand the formation of the Williston Basin as a whole. Figure 1 represents the stratigraphy
of the Williston Basin. The Bakken Source Rock can be seen between the Devonian and the
Mississippian contacts in this diagram. This figure also shows that the Williston Basin began
subsiding in the Late Cambrian and continued to subside since then (Peterson, 1995). Also seen in

Essay on Communicating Leadership
Leadership, Traditional versus Transformational
What should a leader look like? Important leaders, such as presidents and prime ministers, work

and perhaps most widely accepted view of management is the traditional viewpoint. It is split
into three main branches: bureaucratic management, scientific management, and administrative
management (Hellriegel, 2005). Studies have been made on leadership communication and
management styles since the Civil War. With many decades of research it has evolved over time
to specific categories. Traditional is still viewed today because of its long term use. God s

Even so, he thrived under a rank and file style of leadership where only Moses had direct
connection with the ultimate leader. Additionally, the people had to follow a set of policies, known

Summary Of Square Dance By Roger Mcgough
Roger McGough s poetry critiques his contemporary 60 s society, commenting on the substandard
aspect of humanity and articulating the concept that war ultimately brings out the worst in even the
best of people. The Post World War 2 period, with the threat of a nuclear war, emphasised the need
for change. This is illustrated through McGough s poem, Noah s Arc. The title acts as a biblical
allusion providing contextual insight into the concept of the universal destructive nature of
humanity through this satirical poem. The normality of paranoia and insanity depicted due to the
constant threat of waris present throughout the entire poem. The accumulation in, checking the

McGoughs pacifistic perspective on war and his sardonic tone on the naivety of the 60 s society is
most prominent and explored in his poem, Square Dance. Dance of death is a reoccurring motif
throughout the poem, a phrase that originated in the middle ages, emblematic of the universality of
death, also known as the danse macabre , the personification allows the reader to fully understand
the naivety of McGough s current society, imposing the concept that the society is dancing with
death, adding a tone of finality with punctuation to the final use of Dance of Death , conveying a
darker more ruthless society. Each stanza employs a buoyant, sanguine beat, complimented with
black humour, to satirize and burlesque involvement in war, Honour your partner form a square

sensory imagery and metaphors work to help the reader envision and understand the scene that
McGough is describing, in an attempt to scar the audience and portray the brutal horror of war,
also castigating Honour your partner as masculinity is not achieved by any means other than
soldierly enlistment. Gullibility is further exploited when McGough quotes Old soldiers never die...
and then follows up with ...Only young ones using a juxtaposition and ellipses to reveal death in a
realistic light, to elucidate that death is real, and soldiers are not all honoured individually.

The Most Important Event in My Life Essay example
The Most Important Event in my Life
The most important event in my life, didn t even happen to myself, but happened to my older
sister, Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her
and the things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life
used to be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the
same since then.
It all started out when my very shy, self conscious sister didn t really fit in well. She was 16,
chubby and had very few friends. One day Becky s best friend Debbie introduced her to 19 year old
guy name John. Becky and John hit it off very well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My parents came back, surprisingly still with my sister. They said that the rehab wouldn t take

to be the most painful and frightening sight I have ever seen. Becky had to stay in my parents

A euphemism is the substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place of one that
may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the listener;[1] or in the case of doublespeak, to
make it less troublesome for the speaker.[citation needed] It also may be a substitution of a
description of something or someone rather than the name, to avoid revealing secret, holy, or sacred
names to the uninitiated, or to obscure the identity of the subject of a conversation from potential

The common names of illicit drugs, and the plants used to obtain them, often undergo a process
similar to taboo deformation, because new terms are devised in order to discuss them secretly in
the presence of others. This process often occurs in English (e.g. speed or crank for meth). It occurs
even more in Spanish, e.g. the deformation of names for cannabis: mota (lit., something which
moves on the black market), replacing grifa (lit., something coarse to the touch ), replacing
marihuana (a female personal name, MarГa Juana), replacing caГ±amo (the original Spanish name
for the plant, derived from the Latin genus name Cannabis). All four of these names are still used in
various parts of the Hispanophone world, although caГ±amo ironically has the least underworld
connotation, and is often used to describe industrial hemp, or legitimate medically prescribed
cannabis.
[edit] The Euphemism Treadmill
Euphemisms often evolve over time into taboo words themselves, through a process described by
W.V.O. Quine, and more recently dubbed the euphemism treadmill by Steven Pinker. (cf. Gresham
s Law in economics). This is the well known linguistic process known as pejoration.

Demmings Fourteen Points Essay
Demming s Fourteen Points
Demming s formulation of his Fourteen Points is seen by many as the management equivalent of
the 10 Commandments . Like many quality driven approaches, the fourteen points take a holistic
view of an organization, how it works, and its relationships with its stakeholders.
Point 1: Create constancy of purpose towards improvement of product and service, wth the aim to
become competitive, to stay in business and to provide jobs.
Constancy revolves around the customer. Success depends on how well a company evalutes its

Point 5: Improve constantly and forever the system of production and service to improve quality
and productivity, then thus constatnly decreasing costs.
The concept of quality should be built in at the design stage of the product. Each product should

Point 6: Institute training on the job.
Too often workers learn their skill from other workers who do not have adaquate training. It is
useful to train as many workers as possible to detract from costly mistakes.
Point 7: Institute leadership. The aim of supervision should be to help people and machines to do a
better job.
Managers should be trainers, not policemen. Since management plays a key role in quality, reviews
should include discussion on problems and potential solutions.
Point 8: Drive out fear so that eveyone may work effectively

The pilot episode of star trek starring Jeffrey Hunter was actually rejected by NBC because it

Our patients are our number one goal, so it is preferred if possible to do a face to face
conversation. That is if we can find any of the families, we are looking through all the medical
records to see if there are any out of date information that might help to lead us to the first person.
Even basic communication skills such as phone courtesy and message taking can have an important
influence on the organization s success. Communication skills affect the performance of every
employee, not just those in leadership roles Du Pre, A (2005). Everything is marketing from
greeters to nurses (P. 58).
If communication is the problem, we will send out an email or text message making the face to
face encounter less of a burden on the family. However, when it is impossible for anyone to be
here we will make the notification over the telephone. This is not the ideal way for us, but if
there is any question about what is happening it will be perceived in the tone of the voice. This
will help us to help them if they have questions they are not sure about asking. And lastly we have
skype, although surveys show the traditional phone call makes a bigger impact of who we are
speaking with.
Our last resort will be the printed newsletter, while it would be more cost effective to use the
Internet for online letters. There are still those that can t access the internet or if they did would not
find our letter. These letters could be spread throughout

Suicide In Edwidge Danticat s A Wall Of Fire Rising
Hope is salvation. It is the thing we seek in times of distress and hardship. But more often than
not we put our hope of a better future to be passed down to our next generation. Krik? Krak! By
Edwidge Danticat, is a collection of stories, which try their best to explain the tough challenges
Haitian people experience in Haiti and even outside of it. Because of these challenges and
hardships, Danticat portrays the idea of when people go through suffering , the hope of a better fate
lies in the future generation.
In A Wall of Fire Rising Guy foreshadows his feeling of suicideand his hope for Little Guy to
move on with Lili. Before Guy commits suicide by jumping off the hot air balloon, he hints us his
feeling of escape from the hardships and suffering of poverty. But more importantly, he tells Lili his

(60). Looking just at the text, we see Guy already coming to terms with his decision to pass on.
His final act, is to put his final hopes into the last moments with Lili. Even though Guy dies, his
legacy and hope of finding a better home, is embedded within his son. We learn in Between the
Pool and Gardenias that Lili commits suicide after her son departs to Miami, leaving her in Haiti.
Interestingly enough, both the stories are connected by this faintl detail of Lili and her son. But,
this also relates to Guy s hope for Little Guy, My godmother Lili, who killed herself in old age
because her husband had jumped out of a flying balloon and her grown son left her to go to

Quebec Should be Independent Essay
The French pioneers arrived on the land of today s Canada before the 17th century, in which they
called New France. The English started to colonize North America in the 17th century, and it
dominated the land by defeating the French after the French and Indian War, (McDougal Littell
World Geography, page 156). Francophone s population remained a minority in Northern America.
The tension between the two ethnicities worsened, so the French asked for an independent nation.
Canadaand the Quebecprovince have been trying to reach a general conclusion by looking at the
following three main aspects. Firstly, the diverse culture, history, and language between Quebec and
the English speaking provinces. Secondly, the economical power preserved by... Show more content

They felt that their right of existence has been violated. People argued that the federal government
and the local governments could help the Quebecers gain their cultural identities back without
going through devolution, and they also made French as one of the official language of Canada. In
addition, they ensured that the French Canadian would be given education and culture rights
through specific laws that governed it. But numerous disagreements arose during the discussion
between the provinces. The effort aroused tremendous opposition in English Canada, and failed,
(The Case for a Sovereign Quebec, page 1). Quebec had one of the strongest economy in the world.
Quebec was the United States s eighth largest trading partner, (Trading with Quebec, page 2). It had
numerous advantages that made it one of the strongest and healthiest economy in Canada. Montreal
was the third largest city in Canada. It gathered industries from software engineering, electronic
productions, to aerospace development. It as a whole had abundant financial and human resources,
which provided cheap and approachable water and mineral resources. The local government
believed that after gaining independence from Canada, these factors could make it succeed and
prosper in the global economy. The major oppositions that stood against Quebec economically was
the inconvenience when conducting trades in French. If it did not have the

Case Study On Strategic Segmentation
Thus, this research seeks to better understand the processes used by organisations in the
development of a successful strategic segmentation, as well as its impact and influence on
consumer s preferences and behaviour. The methodology initially developed was both quantitative
and qualitative, by the means of Triangulation. As developed by Hammersley (1996) and later on
stated by Lee and Lings (2008), Triangulation allows the researcher to mix both quantitative and
qualitative methods, in order to achieve a more exact and consistent result.
Based on this method, the research strategy developed was to collect information on British
companies, so to understand which communication and marketing strategies were being developed
when targeting audiences. Furthermore, this information would be used during the process of
collecting qualitative data over consumers of these brands. In the latter, the objective was to
understand their perspective and attitude towards the product and brand. Finally, this ... Show more

analyse if there is a discrepancy of perspectives on people from the same consumer segment. More
in depth, this case study has become an alternative to the original methodology chosen for this
research, which was to be based upon UK telecommunication companies and the comparison
between their marketing strategies and its impact on consumers.
Finally, this will give us a better understanding on the following empirical examination:
organisational understanding over consumers and how they select the most appropriate variables
for segmentation; how consumers respond to it and their heterogeneity; how vast is the use of new
segmentation solutions, multi generational marketing in

St. Benedict Research Paper
What dear brothers, is more delightful than the voice of the Lord calling to us? ~ Saint
Benedict. Benedict was born on March 2, 480 in Norcia, Italy. As a child, Benedict attended
primary school in his hometown. However, he then traveled to Rome to continue his studies in
literature and law. Appalled by Rome s political issues, Benedict decided to leave the city and
reside with a group of priests. In the ministry, he preformed his first miracle. Benedict restored a
broken wheat sifter to its perfect condition. Astonished by his actions, Benedict set out to dwell in a
cave isolated from society. Consumed by desolation, Benedict s only contact with the outside world
was a fellow monk named Romanus. He bestowed Benedict with basic necessities... Show more

Since he was a youth, Benedict tried to spread the catholic faith. St. Benedict is a great example
of patience and perseverance. Even after multiple failed attempts, Benedict continued his pursuit
in spreading God s love. God thanked him by saving his life on two separate occasions. The first
time, a group of monks tried to kill him because they believed his method of teaching was too
strict. They poisoned the chalice of wine, but when Benedict blessed the cup, it shattered. In the
second attempt of murder the monks poisoned his bread. However, before he could eat it a raven
filched it. Despite the attempted murder, Benedict always managed a way to battle through the
difficulties. Another highly respected trait that Benedict acquired was his ability to deny the devil.
In one incident, satan tested his chastity with the image of a beautiful woman. To prevent himself
from sin, Benedict dived into a bush of thorns. It is said that the wound on his body healed the
wounds on his soul. In a world of pagans, St. Benedict aspired to free people from satan s evil. He
traveled throughout Europe evangelizing to those who worshiped the devil. This was a very
treacherous risk, but the saint was fearless. In addition to evangelizing, St. Benedict preformed
many miracles. Benedict brought a child back to life. He found water on an arid hilltop to feed
his fellow monks. He gave a student the ability to walk on water in order to

  • 2. Comparing Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis... Growth is inevitable and the most anticipated quest of man. It is a never ending quest to evolve, fuelled by the constant hope for survival. Once natural growth halts, man s focus shifts to the growth within. The coming of age, associates itself with this transformation from child to man, the step of letting go of childish ways and moving on to more mature things. The need for such a dramatic transformation is questioned by Miguel de Cervantesand Lewis Carroll in their texts, Don Quixoteand Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. While the texts follow two contrasting characters, they are brought together by the theme of fantasy. Cervantes Don Quixote is an old gentleman of noble lineage who becomes tired of the monotony and the lack of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [is] Dorotea in disguise, it does not fit into Quixote s frame of thinking and is therefore rejected, Can you be in your right mind? This irony is used by Cervantes to introduce the reader to the issue of perspective. In this world there are two paradigms which are followed: one is to see the world through the fantastical and idealistic madness of Quixote, and the other is to view it through the realism adopted by the other characters of the text. Quixote s madness creates a world where everything is taken at face value, not allowing the idea of deception to exist. When the issue of deception arises, he formulates alternate explanations which are in keeping with his perspective, stating that ...everything that happens in this place is brought about by enchantment. The alternate view which is held by most of the other players is that, anyone could see when he said that those windmills were giants, and those friars mules were dromedaries and those flock of sheep were enemy armies . The hyperbolic images in Sancho s sarcasm give the reader an insight into the sheer vastness of Quixote s generalisation of his belief. It is Quixote s differing school of thought which Cervantes uses to establish his alienation from the sanity of the constructed world. Contrastingly, In Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice is the voice of sanity in the phantasmagorical setting of Wonderland. However, this also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literary Analysis Of Classical Landscape By Charles Sheeler Classical landscape by Charles Sheeler is an exterior oil on canvas of the Estate of Mrs. Edsel B. Ford, Grosse Pointe Farms (figure 1) filled with deep, hidden irony. It was painted in 1931, and is based on a watercolor study. It s a calm, clean, and serene painting that takes your breath away. It s depicting a place someone would want to be in, a place where things get done, and a place where one can go to achieve this idea of the American dream. Charles Sheeler used American industry as a major theme of his art, his work lends itself to an analysis in terms of geometric forms he examines his subject matter so closely in order to fully understand the composition, the effect, and the design he wants to depict. Sheeler painted the plant s exterior as an idyll, a beautiful, picturesque scene of the industrial age booming; however, in reality the United States was in the middle of the worst years of the Great Depression. Therefore, this painting done in Sheeler s hyper realistic artistic style is not actually depicting what the factory actually looked like. He is using his photographs to distort and change the perspective in order to better suit his patrons. Charles s Sheeler is a commissioned artist. Classical Landscape was commissioned by Edsel Ford in order to promote the Ford Company and increase the overall feelings toward industrialization . Sheeler achieved this due to Classical Landscapes light color palette, clean lines, reduced forms, and intense knowledge of the subject matter, his painting only hints at the machines domination of humankind , allowing for viewers to look at the painting and feel comforted by the lack of human presence but not overwhelmed by it. Sheeler s depiction of industrialization lacked human presence. This was uncommon at the time, and created a very different effect than other artists did. He focused on the building in isolation rather than on the hectic activity around the assembly line this switched the focus form not on the people of America but on the technological advances and the progress America was making. Looking further into the painting s subject matter, it is intriguing to see that Sheeler chose to depict something on cite that dealt with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Age Of Anxiety By Auden On the Ages and Stages You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an Ocean; if a few drops of the Ocean are dirty, the Ocean does not become dirty . Mahatma Gandhi Humanity has always petitioned the idea of impending doom upon Earth and its inhabitants, that our sins will soon spill upon the dried cracking crust and salvation awaits the worthy above with open gates and waterfalls. Despite religious conceptions, humans still walk the material world; searching every crevice of knowledge hoping that one day meaning will be found in our sinful journey through time. Anxiety of what awaits the ending days plunges humans deeper into fear and doubt, giving W. H. Auden a needles amount of material for his sardonic masterpiece on the human function, The Age of Anxiety. Auden truly encapsulates diversity in his writing, always transitioning from prose to verse and from thought to speech. Auden begins part three of The Age of Anxiety in prose with At first all is dark and each walks alone. What they share is only the feelings of remoteness and desertion, of having marched for miles and miles, of having lost their bearings, of a restless urge to find water , then beginning the dialogue in verse with Groping through fog, I begin to hear A salt lake lapping: Dotterels and dunlins on its dark shore . The variations in The Age of Anxiety allow for infinite intrigue just like with music, hearing the same thing is boring and dry. Looking past rhetorical analysis and ... Do they have enough resources to help them just to get started on a road back to be a country that the people will be proud of? With the US and all their allies helping them; what state will we be in financially with all the other debt that we have? In the year of 1989 was the fall of Yugoslavia. In Egypt, religion importance is not the same for someone else, for example what may be a factor in one s culture may not be a factor in another culture that one embrace. Unlike other cultures beliefs, Egyptian cultures consisted of a list of things, for example medicine, art, laws, agriculture and more are all tied into their religious beliefs. Also, Most aspects of Egyptian religion can be traced to the people s observation of the environment. Each and every god Egyptians worshiped had more than one power in the eyes of the believers as well as sometimes some gods had a combination of what individual gods already had. It is very hard to establish the number of gods that were praised by Ancient Egyptians. Also, Gods in ancient Egypt were always superior to humans, they would live their life like humans. The only difference between a human and a God was the standing possibility to be able to live again. Unlike humans, Gods were forever immortal. Also, unlike humans gods came in different forms. The early gods is the fact that a single deity could be represented in human form, in zoomorphic form, or in a mixed animal human form. Although the animal forms and therianthropic (i.e., part human, part animal) forms slightly predate anthropoid manifestations. (Brewer, Teeter, 1). Ancient Egyptians believed in more than one practice, but it is unlikely that the gods were derived from totemic animals or that the Egyptians practiced zoolatry (i.e., worship of animals). Rather, animal forms were probably used to suggest metaphorically something about the characteristics of the god. (Brewer, Teeter, 1). Some of the things we despise of now wasn t frowned upon ancient Egyptians religion. For example, The King of the Underworld Osiris was married to his sister, where he was killed by his brother and brought back to life by his wife to conceive a son. The son then despised the Uncle and set out his death wish. ( List of 15 Most Worshiped Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses , 1.) It is important to know lean manufacturing relates to our individual lives and how we can all benefit from this concept. With current slow economic recovery, it is imperative that we find avenues that consumers can get through these difficult times, but also to implement the lessons learned values into future thinking. The rising cost of goods and the unemployment rate high, lean manufacturingis helping to keep cost low and jobs in America where they belong. Lean Manufacturing is actually a concept by way of the removal of all waste from any process associated with expense with the goal of a greater return by introducing additional products or processes that would be invested for a greater return on every dollar spent. For instance, how much more groceries can a family purchase if they could get paid for the right purchases made throughout the month, without sacrificing quality and usefulness. The concept of Lean Manufacturing was not quickly adopted by the United States manufacturing companies because of the cost incurred by changing the old manufacturing processes; the perceived need did not outweigh the benefits. In the 1970 s and the1980 s manufacturing companies in the United States took a closer look when Japanese and Chinese companies were selling similar products as the United States like cars, trucks, electronics, and toy, but at lower cost to the U.S. consumers. Companies within the United States urgently sought out experts from Japan to understand this new method due to declining revenues and the realization they were being forced out of market share. Up until now genetic engineering and cloning has been used to clone plants, unicellular organisms, amphibians and simple mammals. This has led to significant advances in agriculture, industry, and medicine. Newer techniques in genetic engineering have enabled scientists to clone more complex mammals and opened up the possibility of cloninghumans. In order to do this nutrients were withheld from the mammary cell, which stopped it from dividing. The nucleus of the mammary cell was transferred into the recipient egg. An electrical current was given to the egg, which provided the energy that was needed for fertilization to occur. The egg began to divide and when it became an embryo it was placed into another sheep. The lamb that was born, Dolly was a clone of the donor of the original mammary cell (Kolata 27). This type of cloning is very exciting. This technique may be used to mass produce animals that mimic human diseases for research purposes or to create animals with genetically modified organs that could be safely transplanted into humans. It could also be used to mass produce animals for drug production or to improve livestock (Clone 1). This new technique can theoretically also be used to clone humans. However, there are technical difficulties in cloning using a human egg. The unfertilized egg of a mammal has a supply of proteins that is used by the embryo until the embryos own genes can make the proteins for itself. Sheep embryos rely on their own genes after four cell divisions which is apparently enough time for the foreign nucleus to take over and reprogram the egg. However, human ... • 16. The Importance Of Distance Education Over Traditional... Approximately 7 billion people live in the world and the number is getting higher every day. How many people have internet access? Roughly 3 billion people have access to the internet. No wonder online education is on the rise. But why? What is so wrong with a traditional education. Why are more colleges offering online courses? Why are more kids being homeschooled? Even though you won t meet a lot of new people, experience a lot of different cultures, or even become that social butterfly, for people who do not function well in a traditional classroom, I think you should choose distance education over traditional education. For stay at home parents or even single parents, it might be hard to get an education on your schedule. For military families, you may move all over, going from school to school, never really continuing what your learning from school to school. Distance education can keep you connected to your school anywhere you are. First, for people who do not function very well in a traditional classroom, I think you should choose distance education over traditional education. Distance education, or homeschooling, allows for more individualized instruction, based on the students needs. It isn t as structured as a traditional education. According to Redford, Battle, and Bielick (20707), the most important reason parents are homeschooling was the environment of other schools. Other reasons include providing religious instruction, provide a nontraditional approach to the students education, and to provide moral instruction (p. 12). In public or private school, you have no control over what your child is learning and how they are learning it. With distance education, or homeschooling, you can. Are you afraid they will miss out on the opptunities that traditional schools provide. A friend of mine home schools her children after a few years of being in a public school system. They belong to a local co op where all the other distance education students and families get together and play sports, interact, even have a prom for high school students. Your student can now participate in distance education and get the same opportunity as a traditional education. Additionally, for stay at home parents or single ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The essence of gratitude is acknowledging and appreciating the good in your life and doing so surfaces endless benefits that contribute to well being. While this hypothesis seems rather indisputable there is evidence and research to further convince the sceptics. Emmons and McCullough garnered their conclusions through an experiment in which different groups documented their lives in different manners. Through daily and weekly journals the participants were asked to record negative occurrences, neutral events, or things they were grateful for respectively. The findings were conclusive; the group that kept tabs on things they were grateful for consistently reported a greater sense of well being (Sansone and Sansone, 18 22). The methods Emmons and McCullough used to conduct this experiment were very professional and free of any bias. By tailoring the experiment to allow for as much participant control as possible there is little room for influence on their part. Additional research from Froh and Sefick in partnership with Emmons echoes these sentiments. The trio conducted a study in which 221 adolescents were tracked and those who routinely counted their blessings experienced enhanced life satisfaction and overall well being. (Froh, J., Sefick, W. The Growth Of Technology In The 21st Century The Growth of Technology in the 21st Century and What It Stands For Technology is continuously advancing in the 21st century, where medical research is being put into practice, cars being modified to help reduce carbon emissions, and so on, all due to the constant upgrades in technology. With it constantly advancing as time goes on, so has society and the people that has lived in it, their lifestyles constantly changing in relation to how technology is changing, with many benefits that are yielded from it, alongside with the negatives that can bring the society down. Modern technology has made complex tasks possible with the use of robots and large machines and tools is used to operate complex tasks, tasks that cannot be done by human skills. People create and develop new inventions to overcome their physical limitations in what they can do, and that is what technology does for us letting us do things that are not normally possible through human actions such as contacting a person from across the world or providing an abundance of light. Technology is the fruit of human ingenuity and tentative labor, whose progression in the 21st century should still continue for the betterment of the people, while keeping certain dangerous factors in check such as hacks and accentuating violence. • 20. Police Interrogations And False Confessions Police Interrogations and False Confessions Introduction Police interrogation is a technique that police have used to gather information from anyone involved with a crime for hundreds of years. Police interrogations can last a few minutes to several hours. The police have a right to continue questioning the suspect until they ask for a lawyer (Kassin, 2013). The suspects call for a lawyer is a right under the Miranda Rights. In the process of interrogation, the police are not allowed to use cruel or any unusual methods to collect information, the law agents are trained with techniques to get the suspects to answer all the questions. However, this is not usually the case because sometimes the police go overboard in getting the suspects to answer their questions. This interrogation in some cases has led to false confessions leading to the wrong charging of the suspects. An approximate of one out of four confessions includes false confessions (Redlich, 2009). The false confessions made by suspects beg the question on how the police influence false confessions. This research will discuss the various techniques used by the police in interrogating suspects and how they misuse the systems to influence false confessions. • 21. The Prospect Theory, A Behavioral Economic Theory Prospect theory is a Behavioural Economics Theory which tries to understand how people take decisions in terms of two alternatives, which have a probabilistic nature. These decision making processes and their respective outcomes also involve risk. An important point of the Prospect Theory is that it considers the fact that the outcomes of the alternatives are known. The basic idea behind the theory is that people base their decisions on potential gains and losses, rather than thinking about the final outcome. The theory is of the idea that people make such decisions about gains and losses with the help of heuristics. The theory has been very critical in its application as it tries to bring forth a model which is much more realistic in nature,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the equation, xi refers to the total number of possible outcomes and pi shows the probability of those respective outcomes. In the equation w is referred to as the weighing function for the probabilities which therefore shows that people tend to overreact to certain situations of smaller probability as compared to larger probabilities. MAJOR FEATURES 1) The coefficients of values are just gains and losses which are not to be confused with final wealth. 2) The model is able to represent greater sensitivity towards losses as compared to gains. 3) The function is convex for losses that would occur out of the possible outcomes and concave for any sort of gain. 4) Weighing function helps to overweigh smaller probabilities. This paper will focus on the armed conflict between Palestine, specifically the Hamas backed Gaza strip and the state of Israel that has led to the loss of many lives on both sides, while at the same time, created tensions between state actors that make the idea of this conflict being eventually resolved almost impossible unless there is some major change in the internal and external environment. She claimed that she did not want to be an astronaut and knew that there were little to no women in that profession. Then one day, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sent out flyers looking for women to become apart of the program and that changed Sally Rides life forever. NASA mainly recruited white males who were in the military to work for them. It was not until the Equal Employment Opportunity Act was passed that in a way forced NASA to consider women for some of their jobs. NASA then created a new job for astronauts which was to help the pilot on space flights (Friedman). Sally Ride was a very good student in high school and decided to go to Stanford University for college. At Stanford, she got her bachelor s degree in physics which she then narrowed it down to X ray astronomy and free electron laser research. Towards the end of her schooling at Stanford, Ride came across an article in the school newspaper talking about how NASA was in search for scientist to become specialists on one of their shuttles (Freni 151).
