CATALYTIC PYROLYSIS
OF PLASTIC

INTRODUCTION
Pyrolysis means subjecting plastic to high temperature of 400
to 450 degree Celsius, in absence of oxygen. In case of oxygen
is present, plastic will start burning. During pyrolysis plastic
breaks down into smaller molecules of pyrolysis oil, pyrolysis
gas and carbon black. Pyrolysis is a great way of recycling
waste plastics. This waste plastic pyrolysis plant can be used
for waste plastic recycling.
WORKING OF A
PYROLYSIS
PLANT
1. Feed raw materials into the reactor
by full automation feeding machine.
The reactor is supposed to be left 1/3
space for rotating more smoothly.
2. Reactor will be gently heated by
burning fuel material.
3. After all fuel oil produced the
reactor should be cool down.
4. There possibly will be a little
exhaust gas, please expel it after
reaching emission standard.

Technologies
The result is the generation of
Poly-fuel- “green” synthetic (fuel) oil
Poly-carbon- soot (carbon black)
Poly-gas- synthetic gas
-Environmentally friendly, dealing with the comprehensive issue
of waste disposal.
-Energetically independent, using the input material for its own
operation, while at the same time, it is possible to generate
electric power and heat (CHP) and comprehensively- ecologically-
utilize waste polymers.
Pyrolytic Conversion Technologies
1. Pretreatment- this could be as minor as size reduction or as
involved as cleaning and moisture removal.
2. Conversion-pyrolytic processes are used to convert the plastic
to a gas.
3. Distillation- the gas is converted to liquid form.
4. Acid removal process- removal of acids that form in the
breakdown of some scrap plastics. These acids require removal
because they can be corrosive to the PTF systems as well as the
engines that will consume the fuel.
5. Separation/refining/final blending- the final steps required to
make this product consumer ready can neither be done on site
or by a third party, depending on the system design.

•The construction of a pyrolysis plant is a relatively rapid process.
•It creates several new jobs for low income people based on the
quantities of waste generated in the region, which in turn provides
public health benefits through waste cleanup.

CATALYTIC PYROLYSIS OF PLASTIC

  • 1. CATALYTIC PYROLYSIS OF PLASTIC PRESENTED BY- SANJIBONNY BURAGOHAIN INSTITUTION- JORHAT INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (JIST)
  • 2. INTRODUCTION Pyrolysis means subjecting plastic to high temperature of 400 to 450 degree Celsius, in absence of oxygen. In case of oxygen is present, plastic will start burning. During pyrolysis plastic breaks down into smaller molecules of pyrolysis oil, pyrolysis gas and carbon black. Pyrolysis is a great way of recycling waste plastics. This waste plastic pyrolysis plant can be used for waste plastic recycling.
  • 3. WORKING OF A PYROLYSIS PLANT 1. Feed raw materials into the reactor by full automation feeding machine. The reactor is supposed to be left 1/3 space for rotating more smoothly. 2. Reactor will be gently heated by burning fuel material. 3. After all fuel oil produced the reactor should be cool down. 4. There possibly will be a little exhaust gas, please expel it after reaching emission standard.
  • 4. GENERATION/CONVERSION TECHNIQUES USED FOR THE SOURCE OF ENERGY Conversion techniques mainly include- 1. Incineration 2. Gasification 3. Hydrolysis 4. Anaerobic digestion 5. Pyrolysis 6. Chemical feed recovery
  • 5. Depolymerization Technologies The result is the generation of Poly-fuel- “green” synthetic (fuel) oil Poly-carbon- soot (carbon black) Poly-gas- synthetic gas -Environmentally friendly, dealing with the comprehensive issue of waste disposal. -Energetically independent, using the input material for its own operation, while at the same time, it is possible to generate electric power and heat (CHP) and comprehensively- ecologically- utilize waste polymers.
  • 6. Pyrolytic Conversion Technologies 1. Pretreatment- this could be as minor as size reduction or as involved as cleaning and moisture removal. 2. Conversion-pyrolytic processes are used to convert the plastic to a gas. 3. Distillation- the gas is converted to liquid form. 4. Acid removal process- removal of acids that form in the breakdown of some scrap plastics. These acids require removal because they can be corrosive to the PTF systems as well as the engines that will consume the fuel. 5. Separation/refining/final blending- the final steps required to make this product consumer ready can neither be done on site or by a third party, depending on the system design.
