Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by Candida albicans that commonly affects people with HIV/AIDS. In AIDS patients with very low CD4 counts below 100, candidiasis can be difficult to treat and recurrent. Treatment depends on the site of infection and includes topical antifungal creams, ointments, and oral or vaginal suppositories for mild to moderate infections as well as systemic antifungal medications like fluconazole, ketokonazole, and amphotericin B for more severe esophageal or systemic candidiasis.

2. CANDIDIASIS
 Candidiasis is the disease caused by infection with yeast-like
fungus CANDIDA ALBICANS. AIDS is a spectrum of conditions
caused by HUMAN IMMUNO DEFICIENCY VIRUS. Candidiasis
is most common condition seen in people with HIV, and often first
illness and sign that HIV disease is progressing to a more severe
stage

3. In people with HIV candidiasis mainly occur in skin, mucosa
membrane such as mouth, throat, esophagus and vagina.

4.  In AIDS patient the CD4 count is very low ( below 100), in this
candidiasis can recur and difficult to treat. CANDIDA
DUBLINIENSIS is most commonly seen in patients with HIV.

5. TREATMENT
 Two type:
TOPICAL: First choice for oral vaginal, or skin infection- generally
works in mild to moderate cases.
SYSTEMIC : Esophageal & systemic diseases.

6.  TOPICAL THERAPY:
• MOUTH RINSES: I t is effective for a short time. Most commonly
used mouth rinse is MYCOSTATIN ORAL SUSPENSION.
• LOZENGES: It’s for oral symptoms. Most commonly used are
Clotrimazole & Mycostatin.
• CREAMS & OINTMENTS: For skin & nail infections. Fungizone
Lotrimin, Lotrisone are commonly used.

7.  VAGINAL SUPPOSITORIES: These are tablet put in vagina, once
only clotrimazole or once a day for 3 days micoazole.
SYSTEMIC THERAPY:
• KETOKONAZOLE: Is taken at 200 mg 400 mg once a day with
acidic food or beverages.
• FUNGIZONE: Amphoterin B is directly given into the vein.
• FLUCONAZOLE: 200 mg for first day then 100 mg once a day there
after.
• ICTRACONAZOLE: It is leastpotent.
