1. there are various types of fungal disease but we are
focusing on two types which are:
Candida Disease and Crytococcus Disease

2. CANDIDA DISEASE
 Candida is an infection caused by a yeast ( a type of fungus)
called candida. Candida normally lives on the skin and
inside the body, in places such as the mouth, throat, gut
and virgina without causing any problems. Sometimes,
candida can multiply and cause an infection if the
environment inside the mouth, throat or oesophagus
change in a way that encourages funfi growth. Candiasis in
the mouth and throat is also called oropharyngeal
candiasis.candiasis in the oesophagus is called oesophageal
candiasis or candida oesophagitis.
 NOTE: However, oesophal candiasis is one of the most
common infection in people living with HIV/AIDS.

SYMPTOMS)
 Candidiaasis in the mouth, throat and oesophagus
have many different symptoms , these include:
 The appearance of white patches or plaque in the
mouth
 Redness or sores
 Loss of taste
 Pain while eating or swallowing
 Cracking and redness at the corners of the mouth
 Difficulty concentrating/ lack of focus
 Poor memory
 Digestive issues such as constipation or diaherea

6. RISK FACTORS
 Babies younger than one(1) month of age
 Wear dentures
 Diabetis patients
 Cancer patients
 HIV/AIDS patients
 Excesses Smoking

7. DIAGNOSIS AND TEST
 Health care providers can usually diagnose candidiasis simply by looking at the
mouth.
 Candidiasis in the oesophagus can be diagnose by using endoscopy.
LABORATORY TEST
 A sample will be taking from the mouth or throat and send for laboratory under
a microscope.
TREATMENT
 Clotrimazole
 Miconazole
 Nystatin
 Fluconazole

8. Preventive measures
 Maintain good healthy or oral healthy habit
 Rinse your mouth or brush your teeth after using
inhaled corticosteriod

9. Cryptococcus
 Cryptococcus is an invasive fungus that causes
cryptococcosis is an infection commonly associated
with immune suppressive individuals while being rare
in healthy individuals.
