Buckminsterfullerene Research Paper
Buckminsterfullerene or more commonly known as bucky balls is one of the types of carbon
allotropes. It is a spherical fullerene molecule containing 60 carbon atoms. The shape of a bucky
ball resembles that of a typical soccer ball and the specific name for the structure is truncated
icosahedron. It is formed of twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons with a carbonatom lying at each
vertex. The name buckminsterfullerene was named after the inventor Buckminster fuller, because
one of his designs of a geodesic dome structure was very similar to that of the 60 carbon fullerene.
So the inventors named him after the allotrope. However, Fuller and the general public tend to call
them buckyballs. Theoretical Bucky balls were developed in the 1970 s... Show more content on

Bucky balls are extremely stable structures, they can withstand high temperatures and high
pressures. The exposed surface of the structure can interact with other molecules while retaining
its spherical geometry. Also, atoms and small molecules can be trapped inside the fullerene
without reacting. Carbon 60 can undergo 6 reversible reductions, but oxidation is irreversible.
The first reduction needs approximately 1.0 V, making it a fairly effective electron acceptor. It
avoids having double bonds in the pentagons, so electron delocalization is poor and results in the
molecule not being superaromatic. Superaromaticity is used to describe an extra stable nature of
some aromatic macrocycle compounds. These structure contains a number of aromatic rings.
Carbon 60 behaves very much like an electron deficient alkene and readily reacts with high
electron density species. Fullerenes are sparingly soluble in aromatic solvents such as toluene
and carbon disulfide, but they are insoluble in water. Saturated solutions of carbon 60 have a
deep purple color which leaves a brown residue when it is evaporated. The relatively narrow energy
width of the band of molecular levels responsible for green light absorption are the cause for this
color change by single carbon 60

Describe The Relationship Between E. Coli And Odwalla
The best strategy to balance between representing the best interests of the primary and secondary
stakeholders, protecting the company s future, minimizing the risk of public harm and fulfilling
the corporation s commitment to corporate social responsibility would be to send out a media
statement as soon as there was any speculation of relation between E. coli and Odwalla s products
and stating what the company was going to do to fix the problem as well as ask for inputs for
stakeholders and consumers.
By sending out a media statement, it informs consumers and stakeholders of the assumed problem
on hand. Many corporations tend to hind the problems which end up getting them in more trouble.

the smartest decision is to find an alternative that is safe but still produces the freshest juice

South Florida Landscapes
The Effects of Fire and Flooding
To Tree Islands in the Florida Everglades
The topic of this research paper will be the tree island communities in the Florida Everglades and
the different conditions that affect them. While conducting preliminary research on the topic, my
hypothesis is that the effect of flooding shortly after a fire will have a positive effect on the tree
islands. I believe that the flooding will bring in other resources that have been carried with the
current and provide the community with enough resources for healthy growth following the fire. I
believe the communities could benefit from have a source of water, instead of having more
droughts after the fire.
In the Everglades these patches of trees or islands of them are an essential piece of the landscape.
These islands of trees are seen in both the short and the long hydro period wetland of the
Everglades. What these islands start to do is provide a web of shade and they gives opportunity
for these forest dwelling plants and animals to perform important biodiversity and nutrient
cycling functions (Gained et al. 2002, Ross 2009). Tree islands can be all different sizes, in the
short hydro period area these sizes can vary from anything of two to three trees to as big as
several hectares with hundreds of trees. The size of these tree islands have a direct effect on the
amount of species there are, the larger the tree island the more chance there is to have more

God Is Necessary For Human Existence
Manu Patil
Mr. Kadar
Honors English III, Period 3
2 November 2015
Since early times, humans have attempted addressing issues such as, our instinct to survive,
curiosity to know beyond themselves, fear of the unknown, pursuit of happiness, etc. Early
Mesopotamian societies attempted to answer questions such as Who are we?, Where are we?, How
did we get here? Many of those questions were driven by their instinct to survive, interaction with
the nature around, fear of the known and unknown threatening their existence and found solace in
God. God is necessary for human existence.
What is God? God is not some mystical being that is only accessible through religion, but rather a
concept essential for existence. According to Merriam Webster dictionary the God is a spirit or
being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect nature and the lives of
people. Similar concept is echoed in various religions. Christianity, a monotheistic religion,
defines God as the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the
supreme being. whereas, Hinduism, a polytheistic religion, defines God as both the known and
unknown, the being as well as non being, reality as well as unreality and he is one, but also many.
They believe god manifests in innumerable forms and shapes. Yet, moral authority and all these
contradictions can all be found beyond religion in our daily lives. God, therefore, exists beyond
the realms religion as a higher being or power,

the British involved the British army (BEF) attacking the Germans along a 15 mile front north of
the Somme and the French army to attacking the Germans along an 8 mile front. They planned a
weeklong bombardment on the German trenches which would use a total of 1.7 million shells
(Johnson, 2016). The plan was developed in hope to relieve the French army fighting at Verdun
with the Germans. Two other goals were to destroy German s reserve power and inflict heavy
losses on the German army. Throughout the Battle, many important events occurred. The most

Native American Style Beadwork The horses jump around screaming, the bulls snorting, and
time for the rodeo to start. Before the bareback rider gets on his horse I notice his belt, fabricated
with beautiful authentic leather and his last name on the back made of beads, this belt caught
my eye because the beads were bright, and vibrant. I have been looking for this perfect beaded
belt for two years. Nevertheless, I did not want to spend the three hundred dollars to have
someone else make one for me, so I decided I would wait until my senior year to make this my
senior project, and here I stand today.
There is many things a person needs to know about Native American bead working; the history of
Native American beading, comparing and contrasting traditional bead colors with modern bead
colors, thread types, tools needed to do modern bead working, and what bead workers can make
using modern beading. Native American beading has been accomplished for an unknown amount
of time; but, beadwork is one of the most notorious art forms practiced by the Native American
people. Native American people fashioned their own beads pending the appearance of Europeans.
Since none of the Native Americans has metal tools, producing beads was a long, tedious,
procedure. The tools the Native Americans did use, were made of stone or wood and adhesives
such as sand. (Kansas

Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Pachelbel, And Handel

In the Baroque period, some composers are Vivaldi, Monteverdi, Pachelbel, and Handel. There,

Lucio Vivaldi. Vivaldi was born in 1678 and grew to be an Italian violinist and a composer. He

By the time Claudio was in his teens, he had already published several religious and secular music,
but his music took a turn when he was employed by the Duke of Mantua. There he would meet
Giaches De Wert who changed his music drastically. The change puts his music in a whole new
direction. Monteverdi will later die in the year 1643.
The last composer mentioned is Handel. Handel was a German composer who was born in 1685
and later became an English citizen in his later years. In Handel s younger years his father did
not wish for him to go into music due to thinking it would not create him enough money. Handel
s mother did approve through and helped him to study in secret. When Handel got older he
would later, please his father by going to school to become a lawyer but later dropping out to
pursue music, his passion. Handel suffered through several problems throughout the years. He
struggled with anxiety and depression. He also suffered two strokes within the same year. Both
of which he made a shockingly quick recovery. Also in his later years, he ended up losing sight in
his left eye but that did not stop him as he continued to compose. Two years after losing sight in
his left eye, he lost sight in his right eye. Despite being completely blind, he continued to compose
depending on his memory of the notes to compose.
In the Classical period, some composers are Haydn, Boccherini, Mozart, and Hummel. There, of
course, are much more as these are just four composers.

Writing in Mathematics Seminar
Mathematics is different from some other disciplines such as art and music in that it builds upon
itself. It has traditionally been based on a series of axioms and theorems derived from these
axioms, from which more theorems can be derived. Therefore, when an essay asks us to eliminate a
concept fundamental to mathematics, it is difficult to make a choice since each concept has its
merits and is necessary for understanding concepts that build upon it. This essay, although not
feasible to implement in the real world, accomplishes the goals of a Writingin Mathematics seminar,
which are to encourage students to think creatively about mathematics, increase the students skills
in writing effective arguments, and show the students that there... Show more content on

The ultimate goal of this seminar is to enhance our writing capabilities, with mathematics as the
topic of discussion. This assignment challenges us to think about the arguments of the opposing
viewpoints, because both sides are necessary for mathematics to function properly. We have to
anticipate the arguments of the other side and build a strong case against those points thereby
encouraging us to write more persuasively than a typical assignment in this class would. In my
essay, I chose to eliminate the triangle. I had to take into consideration that other people could
argue triangles are important in engineering, and I built an argument on how triangles are not
necessary with some creative uses of circles. This exercise in counterargument allowed me to
practice different persuasive techniques. The higher level thinking required by us is twofold
creative workarounds to mathematical concepts and advanced methods of persuasion. While this
assignment does challenge our writing abilities, it could do more. We are offered a choice of
three topics to write about, so we are free to pick a topic that is the most comfortable for us. A
good writer can create an argument for either side of any topic. If the assignment did not give us
any choices, we would be challenged to write about something that we are not necessarily
comfortable writing about. Students who write in their comfort zone will not try to improve their
writing

sure to attend to every tooth. Brush lightly utilizing a fluoride tooth paste. Floss your the teeth
cautiously following scrubbing.
Prevent soft drinks whenever you can if you wish to conserve your teeth s health. Soda pop not
merely features a lot of glucose, but additionally consists of acids, which can eat through the enamel

cavities.
Brushing is simply effective once you undertake it the proper way. Your toothbrushmust be

your the teeth. Make sure that you don t remember to brush as well intensely, as you could cause
harm to your gum area. Finally, don t forget to remember to brush your mouth, either.
The brush that you use is vital for suitable oral hygiene. Try to choose a tooth brush that has smooth
bristles. This will aid shield your gums and

Cell Adhesion Molecules
Introduction
Cells are independent units of life. However, when a cell becomes part of an organism, it becomes
part of a tissue and organ system. Cells in a tissue are joined to each other and to the extracellular
matrix (ECM) by cell junctions. There are three kinds of cell junctions: Occluding junctions,
anchoring junctions and communication junctions. Occluding junctions occur in the epithelium
where the adjacent cells are so tightly sealed together that even small molecules cannot pass.
Communicating junctions allow the exchange of chemical and electrical signals between cells.
Anchoring junctions are the ones which attach a cell either to its neighbor or to the extracellular
matrix. Formation of an anchoring junction requires the cells to stick to each other. Various
molecules mediate adhesion between cells following which the cytoskeleton forms a structure
around them. The anchoring junctions thus formed can be of four types desmosomes,
hemidesmosomes, focal adhesions and adherens junctions. In order for a proper tissue to form, it
is important for the cells of the tissue to bind together. It is equally important to prevent the
invasion and binding of other cells. Thus, cell adhesion has to be specific. This is where the cell
adhesion molecules come into play (Alberts et al. 2002).
Cell Adhesion Molecules (CAMs) Adhesion of cells to other cells and to the ECM is mediated by
certain proteins on the

Woman Warrior Character Analysis
The In Between Who am I in relation to others? Imperative to answering this question, in fact the
answer itself, is a personal understanding of what is I and what is other . Despite the ostensive
brevity of the question, it is an especially challenging one to answer for Maxine Hong Kingston.
Throughout her memoir, Woman Warrior, she constantly struggles to define her I , or rather her
self . In this autobiography she attempts to write [herself] into being (Gates 57) as an American
by reconciling her Chinese heritage with her experience growing up as a second generation
American. To assess the ways in which Maxine does this, Kingston s Woman Warrior (1976),

interaction with a ghost best illustrates this idea. Kingston and her siblings would watch these

Explain How Economic And Economic Conditions Influence...
Economic conditions influence people s attitudes towards post materialist issues depending on the
economic situation they grew up in., Ronald Inglehart, a political scientist, argued that the
economic conditions that a person experienced early in their life influences their world views
throughout their life. For example, individuals who grew up in economic uncertainty tend to
emphasize materialistic views in terms of their political preferences. As a result, these individuals
are more likely to care about job security, wage stability, and health care. In contrast, individuals
who grew up with economic security tend to emphasize post materialistic views in terms of their
political preferences. As a consequence, these individuals are more likely

The Philadelphia 76er Analysis
The Philadelphia 76ers this past season has was the worst team in the NBA. Not winning a
championship since 1983, they seemed to come close to the title throughout the years. Now, under
new management, the Sixers began to use applications of competitive analytics to step back out
onto the playing field (or court). Using the key points as described in Thomas Davenports
Analytics of Competing, the 76ers seem to be starting a new era of basketballand it all has to do
with analytics.
The introduction of sabermetrics in baseball has driven many teams to reevaluate their analytics,
but baseball is not the only sport that has developed an interest in applying analytics
(Sabermetrics, 2015). Basketball is slowly becoming the next top sport for analytics, and a large
reason has to of with Sam Hinkie. Sam Hinkie is the general manager for the Philadelphia 76ers. A

The Analytical DELTA characterizes a company s progress within each stage and the 76ers has
almost has every aspect of the DELTA. First success factor of the DELTA is data and the
relentless search for new data and metrics (Davenport Harris, 2007). In the 2013 14 season, the
76ers experienced a record tying 26 game losing streak, which resulted in a complete tear down
of the team. Hinkie needed to start from scratch, and with this he took the chance of releasing
many top players for better picks infuture drafts. They were able to accumulate 15 second round
picks for the next six drafts. An example of a good business move using data is using the points
per possession statistics to determine a good player for the team. In basketball, a coach wants the
most points while holding onto the ball the longest. If data reads a player is larger but has little
time of possession, then it might not be smart to put in that player. The data can also determine if a
player is undervalued by the point per possession

Colleges Should Require Class Attendance
Does your attendance record reflect your final grade in college? No not because the professor
will mark you down a certain percentage of your grade, but because of the relationship between
students that show up for class and the ones that regularly skip. When I started attending college,
I was a bit confused why such a large percentage of students weren t attending class. It seemed as
the quarter moved further along, class attendance went down. After spending a bit of time on
google, I found a few statistics that reflect why I believe class attendance should be mandatory. On
the contrary, some students will say that they should have the freedom to decide if they want to go
to class, because they are now adults. However, to improve students grades and schooldrop out
rates. Colleges should require class attendance. Building in class continuity will help prepare
young adults for the work world and requiring class attendance will help develop students for a
thriving career. Fortunately, in grade school you are required to go to school. If you don t there
will be some form of consequences. However, once students enter collegethey now have the choice
of attending class, thus, teaching inconsistency. Doing so holds back other students in the class...

Instead of inconsistent continuity, you can grow into a mature adult. A relationship can grow

Advantages Of Being A Free Rider
If the group succeeds in its endeavor, then very often these gains are available to those who are
not its members. The latter enjoy these rewards without making any effort to obtain them. It is
rational to be a free rider . For example, when a union agrees to raise wages, this increase usually
applies to all employees of the company, regardless of whether they are members of the union or
not. Consequently, the decision to be a free rider , as economists describe this kind of action, drive
through the efforts of others, is very rational. Collective actions are always connected with the
problem of a free rider: the difficulty of implementing mutually beneficial collective actions because
of the possibility of obtaining economic agents benefits without participation in common costs.

Emigrant And Immigrants In The Kingdom Of The Netherlands
Over the years, the Netherlands has seen a massive influx of immigrants, both refugees and
economic, from all areas of the world. As a result, the current demographic of the Netherlands is
characterized by 20% of the Dutch population [being] immigrants or children of immigrant parents
(Ersanilli, 2007); thus, for that reason the importance of this topic/problem is further elevated.
Coming from Curacao, a small island which forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well
as whose economy depends on tourism and permanent migration, it is interesting to apply theories
and empirical data to something that I have accepted as the norm. For some, living in a nation state
where migration is extremely prevalent might not seem the norm, but for me it is; thus, it is
compelling to see how this previous knowledge can be applied on a global scale. In order to
thoroughly cover the different aspects of migration, the following points will be addressed: key
definitions which aid in understanding of the topic; types of migration; the push and pull factors of
migration; and the impacts on the source and destination countries. For the better understanding of
this topic it is important to understand the distinction between immigrant and emigrant, as well as
internal and external migration. Immigrant refers to someone who comes to a foreign country to
live permanently, whereas a emigrant refers to an individual who leaves their home country to then
permanently reside in a foreign country. Similarly, internal migration refers to people within a
country moving to another location within its borders (e.g. from one city to another), whereas
external migration refers to the act of migration across borders (e.g. from one country to another).
Now that some key terms have been addressed, the types of migrants will be illustrated. People
migrate to different countries for various different reasons. This results in the categorization of
different migrants in relation to their reason for migrating, whether it be for social or economic
reasons. The types of migrants include the following: temporary labor migrants, highly skilled
migrants, irregular migrants, forced migrants, family reunification migrants, and return migrants.

Potassium is important in cell metabolism and helps to reduce heart problems and stroke. The
carotenoids, including beta carotene, especially in the yellow and orange fleshed bananas, are
essential in protecting against Vitamin A deficiency and anemia (since Vitamin A is involved in
iron metabolism). Carotenoids rich food also protects the human body against diabetes, heart
disease and cancers (Nelson et al., 2006;Wall, 2006).
Bananas are excellent sources of antioxidants such as Vitamin A, B and C, carotenoids namely

Dietary fibers are also found abundantly in bananas which trap excess cholesterol in the colon and

Examples Of Low Angle Angles
An example of a low angle shot in the movie can be seen at the start of the movie where it shows
the city buildings at a low angle. This shows how big and wide the city is. It amplifies the interest
of the audience to see the things that takes place in those areas.
The high angle is a shot where the camera is at a high angle and it shows how the character is
looking to the camera. It is commonly used so that it can show the character s vulnerability and
can also show how weak the characters is as it shows that of something that is looked down upon,
leading to the feeling of being subservient, which shows the audience one of the few cases where a
character looks weak. In the movie Beastly there are no high angle shots as the movie only shows

Essay on Relations between Men and Women in Genesis
Relations between Men and Women in Genesis
The relations between men and women in Genesis are characterized by deception and lies on the
part of the women.
Women in Genesis were originally explained as being created as men amp;#8217;s helpers. The
women were supposed to be dependent on men and not think for themselves. God explained this
by saying, amp;#8220;It is not good for man to be alone; I will make a fitting helper for him ;

the curse would be brought upon her. Rebekah is not only deceiving
Isaac and Esau but now Jacob as well by saying no curse would be brought upon him if he was
caught. Rebekah then cooks the meal, dresses Jacob in Esau amp;#8217;s best cloths, and puts
hair all over the parts of his body that are showing. Rebekah did not respect her husband

Rebekah was not totally evil in her deception she was trying to help the son she loved and thought

After this promising start though the Bulls would so begin to falter (Chicago History). At the
start of the Bulls second season things looked grim for the team. They had traded their star
player Guy Rodgers for Flynn Robinson and two future draft picks. This proved to be a fatal flaw
as the Bulls only went a mere 29 53 in the regular season. Still this was barely enough to get into
the playoffs where they were destroyed by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. After this
dreary season the Bulls lost Jerry Colangelo, from their front office and he took Jonny Kerr, the
Bulls head coach with him. This however, gave them the chance to hire the unlikely choice of
Dick Motta (Chicago History). Motta was in some ways a godsend to the Bulls because of the
way he helped the Bulls turn the corner in the early 1970 s. He brought a tough defensive mind
to the table and this translated directly into the Bulls tough defensive play. Motta was also
helped out when the Bulls drafted rookie Tom Boerwinkle, a seven foot center that would turn
out to be a star. The Bulls also traded Robinson to Milwaukee for Bob Love, an NBA legend.
That same year the Bulls acquired Bob Weiss and Jerry Sloan, all this added up to a very
competitive club. This Bulls team in fact was the best rebounding squad the Bulls ever put on the
floor with a total of 4,550 total rebound in

Assessment Of Spoken And Language
The CASL or Comprehensive Assessment of spoken and language was administered by two student
clinicians. The Test consists of 15 sub tests in the domains of comprehension, expression, and
retrieval in the 4 categories of semantics, syntax, supra linguistics, and pragmatics.. These sub tests
are then divided into core or supplementary categories. Core tests are meant to determine basic
languagecomponents where as supplementary test are meant to convey further information for a
diagnosis. Depending on the client s age, the test can take between thirty minutes to an hour and a
half to administer, but overall is not a difficult test and yields useful results. A variety of different
factors where taken into account when norming the CASL. The agegroup used was between 3.0 to
21.11 years, and taken from most areas of the country including the Northeast, northwest, central,
and west. Fifty percent of these participants were male and fifty percent were female. Almost
70% of this reference population identified as white while about 20% of the reference population
was either Hispanic or African American. Based on these norms this test may be better for some
populations rather then others. For example, if a clinician has a Hispanic boy from Texas, she
may want to use a different test, or at least keep these norms in mind when scoring. Because this
test is normed on a large portion of the population, even with a price of about 500 dollars, many

The Medieval Church And The Development Of Medieval...
Medieval Theatre was a source of education and reflection for the residents of the Middle Ages.
Serving as an inspiration for Renaissance plays, it took centuries of evolution for Medieval to
accommodate themes outside of the Bible. Theatre in the Middle Ages was an enemy of the
Catholic Church, who tried to terminate these performances. Unusually, the Catholic Church played
a significant role in the development of Medieval Theatre. Although plays were limited to the
themes of the Bible for a long period of time, bizarre masks, costumes and great structuring of
stages were used.
Following the collapse of the Roman Empire, a small group of performers travelled to various
destinations to entertain audiences about all aspects of life. They toured countries and many
regions to tell stories, play music and even perform acrobatic arts. Wherever they went, festivals
emerged. This caused commotion between Religious practitioners, who tried to convert the
performers and end their performances which were deemed sinful. The Catholic Church, which
was highly responsible for the growth of Medieval Theatre, offered a service. This service provided
the dramatization of Biblical stories which were held on church premises. It was not until the 13th
century that religious performances were beginning to be held outside of the church. Medieval
Theatre experienced a fundamental change in its 800 year rule, ending its reign in the 16th century.
In regards to what the plays were performed on,

The Importance Of Cultural Competence In Nursing
Cultural competence is a set of attitudes and behaviors which make an organization run effectively
and judiciously. This competence allows many different cultures to work non offensively and
professionally in various situations. (Flowers, 2004) Cultural competence involves many different
factors. These factors include actions, communications networks, dialects, human activities, morals,
and religious views. People can successfully be culturally competent when they consciously and
deliberately function in a group with multi cultural circumstances and respect those differences.
(Flowers, 2004)
Cultural competence is critical in nursing care. Today s healthcare providers must adapt patient care
to be in consistent and compatible with the patient s culture and values. Nurses can enlarge and
advance their knowledge of culture through many sources. There are many sources that nurses can
turn to for education and general information: articles, internet resources, seminars and books.

An insane man suffocates and stifles an innocent old man because he does not like the old man s
pale blue, vulture like eye, yet he claims to be sane. In The Tell Tale Heart, by Edgar Allan Poe, the
main character, the narrator, is haunted by an old man s pale blue eye. The narrator is haunted
so much by the eyes that he decides to get rid of the eye, even if it meant getting rid of the old
man too. In the end, the narrator ends up a telling the police where he concealed the old man s
dead body to the police, on account of him being insane. Even though the narrator claims to be
sane, I can tell by his actions, thoughts, and words, that he is clearly insane. The narrator loves
the old man but is haunted but the old man s evil eye. The narrator makes up his mind to kill the
old man and to get rid of the eye. The text states, It is impossible to say how first the idea entered
my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night. Object there was none. Passion there
was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult.

Ik Entry Draft Essay
One of the most fluid and insanely unpredictable weeks in recent NHL memory is now over with
the conclusion of the 2017 NHL entry draft. Prior to that, we had the Vegas Golden Knights
expansion draft, awkwardly held in the middle of an awards gala, and some good old fashioned
wheeling and dealing. General managers have now returned home to celebrate their victories, or
size up their losses, with five days before unrestricted free agency, which begins this Saturday, July
1. For New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow, it was a whirlwind of three transactions
that, by most accounts, saw him come out victorious in two with a decision on the third pending.
Snow did well to protect from expansion his most coveted assets, on both offense... Show more

As valued as Hamonic was to New York on the ice and in the locker room, as well as in the
community, Snow did right by the player in granting his request while, at the same time, not
crippling the organization by making a bad deal. Prior to completing the move of Hamonic to
the Flames, there was plenty of interest in the hardnosed, competitive and passionate
defenseman. Toronto Maple Leafs manager Lou Lamoriello engaged Snow in discussions that
went far beyond setting initial parameters. There was a deal reportedly in place that was
centered around Hamonic and 28 year old winger James Van Reimsdyk that multiple sources
told SNY fell apart due to the Islanders being on the players 10 team no trade list in addition to
concerns over a contract extension, given that Van Reimsdyk will be an unrestricted free agent
next July. What Snow chooses to do with the draft picks obtained in the last trade will be crucial
to his final grade on the off season. With the unrestricted free agent market looking as barren as
the Sahara desert, does Snow package those picks in a creative offer to unfreeze Matt Duchene
from the clutches of Joe Sakic? Does he call Marc Bergevin in Montreal and get a concrete
answer on what Alex Galchenyuk will cost? Does he go back to the well and get McPhee on the
line, and inquire about James Neal? With no major assets being traded in

Essay about Orientalism
The definition of orientalism takes up no more than two sentences in the dictionary. Coincidentally,
Orientalism came to be such a complex and deep concept which Said devotes his entire book in
discussing about it. His book Orientalism unfolds the history of the Orientalism, reveals the dark
side of an orientalist s mind and describes the different dimensions of Orientalism. He also attempts
to expose the truthof the Orient, which he warned that: One ought never to assume that the structure
of Orientalism is nothing more than a structures of lies or of myths, which were the truth about
them to be told, would simply blow away (Said). In order to understand the truth Said`s referring to,
one ought to first understand the origin and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And authority here means for us to deny autonomy to it the Oriental country since we know it
and it exists, in a sense, as we know it (Said, 32). [Because they have the knowledge about the
Egyptians, they feel like they have the power and authority to take over the nation and
colonializing it.] Surely, Balfour s claim of the profound knowledge about Egypt is actively
linked with political imperialism and colonization of Egypt. Said reinforces his argument about
knowledge and power once again by referring to the quote by Cromer knowledge gives power,
more power requires more knowledge, and so on in an increasingly profitable dialectic of
information and control (Said 36).Thus, Knowledge serves as a powerful tool to allow the West to
explore, control and govern the Other . Consequently, knowledge about the Orient is the start and
the result of European domination, possession, and rationalization of the Orient, as one shall see in
the following paragraphs.
Domination/Possession:
Another key feature about Orientalism is that it puts Europe in the position of power and
domination (Said, 40). Orientalism promotes the segregation of the East

Wildfire Effects
Whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) is a keystone species (Tomback et al. 2001), forming subalpine
and treeline forests that supply food and shelter for hundreds of plant and animal species. This trait
makes whitebark pine a quintessential high elevation conifer and it forms unique habitat types with
both geographic and successional variation that support considerable biodiversityacross the higher
mountains of the United states and Canada. (Tomback et al. 2001, Tomback and Achuff 2010).

Wildfire and prescribed burns have a variety of impacts on wildlife and habitats, both direct and
indirect (Wasserman 2015). Direct effects include fatality, emigration out of burned areas,
immigration into new areas. Indirect effects is changes in vegetative structure, diversity, species
composition, and other components of their habitat. Species responses to wildfire depends on
these direct and indirect effects of fire and how fire regimes and fire severity impacted the
landscape (FulГ© et al. 2003, Reynolds et al. 2013). Herbivores, such as elk, deer, and bighorn
sheep, respond in post fire wilderness due to the open dense canopies that allow an increase in
understory plants that herbivores feed on (Bailey and Whittam 2002). For example, elk prefer
forage quality that provide their required calorie intake to allow them to successfully produce
milk. During early succession, mid succession, and late succession of post fire habitat, forage
quality is at its highest during early succession stages in both mesic and xeric sites (Swanson et
al. 2011). This suggest that herbivores, like elk, would utilize these early succession post fire
areas. Carnivores and mesocarnivores respond to post fire changes as well. Male american black
bears and grizzly bears used burned sites increasing their home range post fire. Canids, such as the
coyote, use both burned and unburned areas due to food availability (Cunningham et al 2002). The
Mount Washburn sites are in landscapes that experienced high severity fires and have an abundance
of whitebark pine deadfall in the area. This overabundance of deadfall might detter larger
herbivores and carnivores decreasing wildlife species diversity. Wildlife species diversity is an
intuitive way to determine an ecosystem s health and status (Edwards and Abivardi 1998). Wildlife
species diversity boosts ecosystem productivity due to diversification

Holistic Design Essays
Holistic Design
Thesis: Design is the root of action; if we can creatively construct our products and systems with
purpose and understanding of the processes and side effects of these systems, we can improve our
relationship to the natural world.
Introduction to Industrial Design
Our modern lives are full of manufactured products. Nearly everything that surrounds us in our day
to day lives is born of intense industrial processes, yet rarely do we think of the systems that
support our lifestyles. Finding a single action in a day that does not somehow depend on fossil fuels
is nearly impossible. Everything we use, eat, or come in contact with has either been shipped or
manufactured (or both) far away from where we live, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Never before has the sustenance of a culture imposed detrimental effects on such a worldwide
scale as our own (Chiras, 2001). Our daily negligence and blind support of industrial systems of
design is destroying the natural world that supports us.
There are several problems with industrial design and processes. Primarily, industrial design is not
case specific. It cares not for bioregional differences, but tends to value strength. Take for example
clothing detergents. Water in different areas has differing degrees of mineral concentrations. Water
with lower concentrations of minerals, as may be found in the northwestern United States, requires
less detergent than water in the Southwest to clean clothing. However, detergent has a universal
dosage and strength despite these regional differences (McDonough 2002, p. 29). Excess detergent
can contaminate waterways and alter aquatic ecosystems. Another example is lawn fertilization.
Many people over fertilize their lawns in order to improve the color, which can harm aquatic life
when runoff occurs. Many of these people also throw away their clippings after mowing, effectively
removing nutrients from their lawns. Now the fertilization is required again. These homeowners are
now increasing their dependence on industrial systems while hurting natural systems, instead of
utilizing natural systems, which would decrease their need for industrial

Suboxone patients are a restart after missing 5 doses.
Take Home Dose Agreement (Carry Paper)
For this form patients will need to read it over and understand that they only get one lock box for
free. If they lose it they will have to pay for the next one ($10.00). A lock box is for the patients
carries, and comes with 2 keys for each side of the box. Don t lose it and take care of it.
New Patient (Initial Patient Assessment Form)
Always ask the doctors if they want a new patient before creating a new patient file. If there is no
health card number for the patient but the doctor will still see him/her do not print a label and
instead just write the name by hand and leave everything else blank. (Make sure to explain to the
patient how sampling works.) Always scan in all ID a patient provides.
If A Patient Is In Jail (Jail Paper)
Call the pharmacy and confirm the patient s last dose. Fill in the last dose on the page that has
been faxed over once the dose amount has been confirmed. We can t restart a patient while in jail
because they have access to an in house doctor. On weekends we are able to send a script only if
the doctor has given us permission and a signed script. (If a patient is only doing weekends make a
note in the patients chart and talk to the doctor.) Other than that there is nothing I can do.

Changes Within The European General Data Protection Directive
Changes in the European General Data Protection Directive
How to prepare for the new regulations?
Overview requirements
Why is a new regulation required? What does this means for a company?
The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is due to be passed through European
Parliament. It will impact any organisation that gathers, processes and stores personal data. It is
currently a draft regulation, due to come into effect by late 2015 and it s aiming to unify and
simplify data protection regulation for all the member countries of the European Union (EU).
As of Monday 15 June 2015, the Council of Ministers reached a general approach on the general
data protection regulation that establishes rules adapted to the digital era and an agreement on
GDPR is expected by the end of the year. As a Regulation and not a Directive, it will have
immediate effect on all EU Member States after the two year transition period and does not require
any enabling legislation to be passed by governments.
As part of the Data Protection Reform Package, the European Parliament is currently discussing
the Commission Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the
protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement
of such data. It includes a strict data protection compliance regime with severe penalties of up to

John Maxwell s Theory Of Leadership
Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower
others. John Maxwell. Not everyone is equipped to be a leader. Great leaders have the ability to
establish a set direction and principles to guide their companies in an efficient way. It is believed
that certain people possess traits that make them good leaders and researcher focus in personality,
social, physical, or intellectual qualities that would identify them as leaders from the rest of the
people. A few ideas have been developed over the years in the effort of define leadership. One of
this is the Fiedler contingency modeland Hersey and Blanchard s Situation Theory. One of the
situations that comes to mind is the story found in the Bible about Joshua when he was selected to
spy the land of Canaan, and return to report on what was found, the land flowed with milk and
honey. While others may only see problems before it true leaders can see possibilities and endure
the opposition until they see an open door.
If we focus on the idea that people can poses different personality and characteristics can be linked
to successful leadership across various situation this would be defined as the trait theory of
leadership. Some researcher believe that the ability to lead was something that a person was born
with and not something that could be developed or learn. Many people still believe that leaders just
have an intuition that makes them good at making decision and developing

The Political Time Period Of The American Civil War
In March, by Geraldine Brooks, we learn about the political time period of the American Civil
War. The main character, Mr. March is an avid abolitionist on the Union side working as a
chaplain. An idealistic Mr. March goes against his moral code of pacifism, and takes action by
joining the American Civil War. If March is not as idealistic as he is, he never would have fought
in the war.
Throughout the novel, one recurring theme in Mr. March s life are his decisions whether to take
action against injustices or not. Mr. March lives his life by the moral codes of his religious beliefs
of pacifism, and anti slavery. When Mr. March is contemplating the idea of going to war, he
considers one hand, if he goes he will be going against his religion of pacifism. On the other hand,
if he goes, he would be impressing Marmee, fighting for abolitionism, and he believes others will
respect him for being a solider. He decides to take action and put his abolitionist values, pride and
Marmee s admiration above those of pacifism. If he does not take action, he would feel he had
been a part of the continuation of slavery, and in his mind, commit a sin against slaves. Another
time when Mr. March has to decide between action and inaction is when the rebel irregulars attack
the plantation and take many people captive. Mr. March hides in a hole in the cotton seed pile, and
when the rebel irregulars call for him to come out or they threaten to kill Ptolemy, he has to decide

Women In Lysistrata
So often we imagine the people of the past as, if not quite stodgy, then definitely as less sexual than
the current generation. Aristophanes Lysistrata, takes that idea and turns it on its head, proving
beyond a shadow of a doubt that people have always been sexual beings with appetites similar to
our own. Aristophanesexcels at the bawdy double entendre and certainly this play can be enjoyed
as nothing more than what it presents itself as, a farcical sexual comedy, but that would be doing it
a great disservice. Aristophanes used the comedic situations and the women in Lysistrata and their
struggle against a small group of old men, as a safe way to express his criticisms of the ongoing
Peloponnesian War and the current government. The basic plot of... Show more content on

and putting make up on, designer clothes and wigs and necklaces, imported gowns and fancy
lingerie! (1.42 45) By having the characters admit they are lazy, alcoholic and lustful, it makes their
role as main characters funny and the situation on the ridiculous side, otherwise the author s critique
of the war, through the play, may not have been received well. Aristophanes must use women to
couch his complaints against the government, because if he had used men doing the same things
(occupying the citadel, taking over the money), it may have been seen as a call to arms rather than
a commentary on their society. When such foolish creatures have to tell men what to do, the war
the men are fighting must be pretty foolish indeed, he seems to say. Aristophanes uses the low
status of women in Athens society to make his critique as non threatening as

Design Thinking and How It Will Change Management Education: An Interview and Discussion

He has spoken at several conferences on the subject. The Rotman School s magazine, Rotman
Management, published a special issue on design in winter 2004 and on creativity in spring
/summer 2006. In addition, Rotman hosted a conference, entitled The Future of the MBA in
March 2006 that brought together the major critics of MBA programs. On the Rotman School s
website, Martin claims: we are on the cusp of a design revolution in business, and as a result,
today s business people don t need to understand designers better, they need to become designers.
In this interview, Martin describes his interest in design thinking, how it will affect management
education, and how it can address some of the criticisms recently leveled at MBA programs.
How did you become interested in the topic of design in relation to management? It started with
my encounters with Hambly and Woolley, a small design firm here in Toronto. Just by osmosis I
got interested in the way they would think about problems. For example, one assignment was a
hunting lodge where the owner was bankrupt and was selling off all of his property. The
designer had to do a selling brochure for this extremely fancy lodge, but there was no budget for
it. I was so fascinated with what he did: He created a very rough photo album with shots of the
lodge mounted with those little black corners. I was fascinated at how he took this on with such
joy, this notion of how on earth could

Binge Eating Disorder Case Study Pooh
Pooh clearly has a problem. He is obsessed with honey and will do anything to acquire some.
This is problematic since it interferes with his daily life. This can be called abnormal behavior, a
behavior or even mental state that is different from what one can expect in a culture. Abnormal
behavior usually comes from a psychological disorder (or multiple) where thoughts, feelings, and
/or actions are distressful and dysfunctional. The symptoms of a psychological disorder have to
interfere with one s health and daily activities, which Pooh experiences. This means that he has
had an eating disorder. Pooh has the symptoms of a person that has an eating disorder, specifically
binge eating disorder. Binge eating disorder, or BED, is a disorder in which... Show more content on

I used to be very skeptical about those who would say that they have a binge eating disorder and
even to those who were just big that said that they try to stop. I would see other people actually
lose weight and look slimmer and not understand that not everyone works that way. I learned
that everyone is different and that people eat different things. With this franchise, I understand
better that even though it is fictional, there are still some issues that people have to deal with. I
watched the franchise as if each character was a person and saw that all of these characters
actually have a problem and I could watch a few characters as my own family members. This
made me understand that even though it is a problem, not all the time can problems be fixed,
such as Pooh s problem. In the end of it all, Pooh continues to eat honey and no one really stops
him because it is what makes him happy. This creates the possibility that there is a correlation
between binge eating and happiness in Pooh s life. This franchise challenges a few myths. One
myth is that binge eating disorder is the same thing as bulimia. Whenever Pooh ate pots of honey,
back to back, he would not purge after, instead he would burp and go to sleep. Another myth is
that only women experience binge eating. Pooh is a male, his voice in the movies and TV shows
is a masculine voice. In reality, binge eating affects both

  • 2. Buckminsterfullerene Research Paper Buckminsterfullerene or more commonly known as bucky balls is one of the types of carbon allotropes. It is a spherical fullerene molecule containing 60 carbon atoms. The shape of a bucky ball resembles that of a typical soccer ball and the specific name for the structure is truncated icosahedron. It is formed of twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons with a carbonatom lying at each vertex. The name buckminsterfullerene was named after the inventor Buckminster fuller, because one of his designs of a geodesic dome structure was very similar to that of the 60 carbon fullerene. So the inventors named him after the allotrope. However, Fuller and the general public tend to call them buckyballs. Theoretical Bucky balls were developed in the 1970 s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bucky balls are extremely stable structures, they can withstand high temperatures and high pressures. The exposed surface of the structure can interact with other molecules while retaining its spherical geometry. Also, atoms and small molecules can be trapped inside the fullerene without reacting. Carbon 60 can undergo 6 reversible reductions, but oxidation is irreversible. The first reduction needs approximately 1.0 V, making it a fairly effective electron acceptor. It avoids having double bonds in the pentagons, so electron delocalization is poor and results in the molecule not being superaromatic. Superaromaticity is used to describe an extra stable nature of some aromatic macrocycle compounds. These structure contains a number of aromatic rings. Carbon 60 behaves very much like an electron deficient alkene and readily reacts with high electron density species. Fullerenes are sparingly soluble in aromatic solvents such as toluene and carbon disulfide, but they are insoluble in water. Saturated solutions of carbon 60 have a deep purple color which leaves a brown residue when it is evaporated. The relatively narrow energy width of the band of molecular levels responsible for green light absorption are the cause for this color change by single carbon 60 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Effects Of Fire And Flooding On The Florida Everglades Kristofer Mueller South Florida Landscapes The Effects of Fire and Flooding To Tree Islands in the Florida Everglades The topic of this research paper will be the tree island communities in the Florida Everglades and the different conditions that affect them. While conducting preliminary research on the topic, my hypothesis is that the effect of flooding shortly after a fire will have a positive effect on the tree islands. I believe that the flooding will bring in other resources that have been carried with the current and provide the community with enough resources for healthy growth following the fire. I believe the communities could benefit from have a source of water, instead of having more droughts after the fire. In the Everglades these patches of trees or islands of them are an essential piece of the landscape. These islands of trees are seen in both the short and the long hydro period wetland of the Everglades. What these islands start to do is provide a web of shade and they gives opportunity for these forest dwelling plants and animals to perform important biodiversity and nutrient cycling functions (Gained et al. 2002, Ross 2009). Tree islands can be all different sizes, in the short hydro period area these sizes can vary from anything of two to three trees to as big as several hectares with hundreds of trees. God Is Necessary For Human Existence Manu Patil Mr. Kadar Honors English III, Period 3 2 November 2015 Since early times, humans have attempted addressing issues such as, our instinct to survive, curiosity to know beyond themselves, fear of the unknown, pursuit of happiness, etc. Early Mesopotamian societies attempted to answer questions such as Who are we?, Where are we?, How did we get here? Many of those questions were driven by their instinct to survive, interaction with the nature around, fear of the known and unknown threatening their existence and found solace in God. God is necessary for human existence. What is God? God is not some mystical being that is only accessible through religion, but rather a concept essential for existence. According to Merriam Webster dictionary the God is a spirit or being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect nature and the lives of people. Similar concept is echoed in various religions. Christianity, a monotheistic religion, defines God as the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being. whereas, Hinduism, a polytheistic religion, defines God as both the known and unknown, the being as well as non being, reality as well as unreality and he is one, but also many. • 23. A Study On Cell Adhesion Molecules Name: Instructor s Name: Course: Date: Cell Adhesion Molecules Introduction Cells are independent units of life. However, when a cell becomes part of an organism, it becomes part of a tissue and organ system. Cells in a tissue are joined to each other and to the extracellular matrix (ECM) by cell junctions. There are three kinds of cell junctions: Occluding junctions, anchoring junctions and communication junctions. Occluding junctions occur in the epithelium where the adjacent cells are so tightly sealed together that even small molecules cannot pass. Communicating junctions allow the exchange of chemical and electrical signals between cells. Anchoring junctions are the ones which attach a cell either to its neighbor or to the extracellular matrix. Formation of an anchoring junction requires the cells to stick to each other. Various molecules mediate adhesion between cells following which the cytoskeleton forms a structure around them. The anchoring junctions thus formed can be of four types desmosomes, hemidesmosomes, focal adhesions and adherens junctions. In order for a proper tissue to form, it is important for the cells of the tissue to bind together. It is equally important to prevent the invasion and binding of other cells. Thus, cell adhesion has to be specific. This is where the cell adhesion molecules come into play (Alberts et al. 2002). Coming from Curacao, a small island which forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well as whose economy depends on tourism and permanent migration, it is interesting to apply theories and empirical data to something that I have accepted as the norm. For some, living in a nation state where migration is extremely prevalent might not seem the norm, but for me it is; thus, it is compelling to see how this previous knowledge can be applied on a global scale. In order to thoroughly cover the different aspects of migration, the following points will be addressed: key definitions which aid in understanding of the topic; types of migration; the push and pull factors of migration; and the impacts on the source and destination countries. For the better understanding of this topic it is important to understand the distinction between immigrant and emigrant, as well as internal and external migration. Immigrant refers to someone who comes to a foreign country to live permanently, whereas a emigrant refers to an individual who leaves their home country to then permanently reside in a foreign country. Similarly, internal migration refers to people within a country moving to another location within its borders (e.g. from one city to another), whereas external migration refers to the act of migration across borders (e.g. from one country to another). Now that some key terms have been addressed, the types of migrants will be illustrated. People migrate to different countries for various different reasons. This results in the categorization of different migrants in relation to their reason for migrating, whether it be for social or economic reasons. Essay on Relations between Men and Women in Genesis Relations between Men and Women in Genesis The relations between men and women in Genesis are characterized by deception and lies on the part of the women. Women in Genesis were originally explained as being created as men amp;#8217;s helpers. The women were supposed to be dependent on men and not think for themselves. God explained this by saying, amp;#8220;It is not good for man to be alone; I will make a fitting helper for him ; (Genesis 2:18). However the women in Genesis are always using their femininity to deceive men in different ways not only to help themselves but sometimes their loved ones as well. Michael Jordan in fact is the reason why most people know about the Bulls. The Chicago Bullsare one of the most memorable and historic professional basketball teams in history. The Bulls joined the National Basketball Associationin 1965. At the start of the Bulls second season things looked grim for the team. They had traded their star player Guy Rodgers for Flynn Robinson and two future draft picks. This proved to be a fatal flaw as the Bulls only went a mere 29 53 in the regular season. Still this was barely enough to get into the playoffs where they were destroyed by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. After this dreary season the Bulls lost Jerry Colangelo, from their front office and he took Jonny Kerr, the Bulls head coach with him. This however, gave them the chance to hire the unlikely choice of Dick Motta (Chicago History). Motta was in some ways a godsend to the Bulls because of the way he helped the Bulls turn the corner in the early 1970 s. He brought a tough defensive mind to the table and this translated directly into the Bulls tough defensive play. Motta was also helped out when the Bulls drafted rookie Tom Boerwinkle, a seven foot center that would turn out to be a star. The Bulls also traded Robinson to Milwaukee for Bob Love, an NBA legend. That same year the Bulls acquired Bob Weiss and Jerry Sloan, all this added up to a very competitive club. The Test consists of 15 sub tests in the domains of comprehension, expression, and retrieval in the 4 categories of semantics, syntax, supra linguistics, and pragmatics.. These sub tests are then divided into core or supplementary categories. Core tests are meant to determine basic languagecomponents where as supplementary test are meant to convey further information for a diagnosis. Depending on the client s age, the test can take between thirty minutes to an hour and a half to administer, but overall is not a difficult test and yields useful results. A variety of different factors where taken into account when norming the CASL. • 38. The Medieval Church And The Development Of Medieval... Medieval Theatre was a source of education and reflection for the residents of the Middle Ages. Serving as an inspiration for Renaissance plays, it took centuries of evolution for Medieval to accommodate themes outside of the Bible. Theatre in the Middle Ages was an enemy of the Catholic Church, who tried to terminate these performances. Unusually, the Catholic Church played a significant role in the development of Medieval Theatre. Although plays were limited to the themes of the Bible for a long period of time, bizarre masks, costumes and great structuring of stages were used. Following the collapse of the Roman Empire, a small group of performers travelled to various destinations to entertain audiences about all aspects of life. They toured countries and many regions to tell stories, play music and even perform acrobatic arts. Wherever they went, festivals emerged. This caused commotion between Religious practitioners, who tried to convert the performers and end their performances which were deemed sinful. The Catholic Church, which was highly responsible for the growth of Medieval Theatre, offered a service. This service provided the dramatization of Biblical stories which were held on church premises. It was not until the 13th century that religious performances were beginning to be held outside of the church. Medieval Theatre experienced a fundamental change in its 800 year rule, ending its reign in the 16th century. In regards to what the plays were performed on, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wildfire and prescribed burns have a variety of impacts on wildlife and habitats, both direct and indirect (Wasserman 2015). Direct effects include fatality, emigration out of burned areas, immigration into new areas. Indirect effects is changes in vegetative structure, diversity, species composition, and other components of their habitat. Species responses to wildfire depends on these direct and indirect effects of fire and how fire regimes and fire severity impacted the landscape (FulГ© et al. 2003, Reynolds et al. 2013). Herbivores, such as elk, deer, and bighorn sheep, respond in post fire wilderness due to the open dense canopies that allow an increase in understory plants that herbivores feed on (Bailey and Whittam 2002). For example, elk prefer forage quality that provide their required calorie intake to allow them to successfully produce milk. During early succession, mid succession, and late succession of post fire habitat, forage quality is at its highest during early succession stages in both mesic and xeric sites (Swanson et al. 2011). This suggest that herbivores, like elk, would utilize these early succession post fire areas. Carnivores and mesocarnivores respond to post fire changes as well. Male american black bears and grizzly bears used burned sites increasing their home range post fire. Canids, such as the coyote, use both burned and unburned areas due to food availability (Cunningham et al 2002). The Mount Washburn sites are in landscapes that experienced high severity fires and have an abundance of whitebark pine deadfall in the area. This overabundance of deadfall might detter larger herbivores and carnivores decreasing wildlife species diversity. Nearly everything that surrounds us in our day to day lives is born of intense industrial processes, yet rarely do we think of the systems that support our lifestyles. Never before has the sustenance of a culture imposed detrimental effects on such a worldwide scale as our own (Chiras, 2001). Our daily negligence and blind support of industrial systems of design is destroying the natural world that supports us. There are several problems with industrial design and processes. Primarily, industrial design is not case specific. It cares not for bioregional differences, but tends to value strength. Take for example clothing detergents. Water in different areas has differing degrees of mineral concentrations. Water with lower concentrations of minerals, as may be found in the northwestern United States, requires less detergent than water in the Southwest to clean clothing. However, detergent has a universal dosage and strength despite these regional differences (McDonough 2002, p. 29). Excess detergent can contaminate waterways and alter aquatic ecosystems. Another example is lawn fertilization. Many people over fertilize their lawns in order to improve the color, which can harm aquatic life when runoff occurs. Many of these people also throw away their clippings after mowing, effectively removing nutrients from their lawns. Now the fertilization is required again. These homeowners are now increasing their dependence on industrial systems while hurting natural systems, instead of utilizing natural systems, which would decrease their need for industrial ... • 51. Changes Within The European General Data Protection Directive Changes in the European General Data Protection Directive How to prepare for the new regulations? Overview requirements Why is a new regulation required? What does this means for a company? The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is due to be passed through European Parliament. It will impact any organisation that gathers, processes and stores personal data. It is currently a draft regulation, due to come into effect by late 2015 and it s aiming to unify and simplify data protection regulation for all the member countries of the European Union (EU). As of Monday 15 June 2015, the Council of Ministers reached a general approach on the general data protection regulation that establishes rules adapted to the digital era and an agreement on GDPR is expected by the end of the year. As a Regulation and not a Directive, it will have immediate effect on all EU Member States after the two year transition period and does not require any enabling legislation to be passed by governments. As part of the Data Protection Reform Package, the European Parliament is currently discussing the Commission Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data. It includes a strict data protection compliance regime with severe penalties of up to 100M euros or up to five percent of worldwide turnover for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. John Maxwell s Theory Of Leadership Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others. John Maxwell. Not everyone is equipped to be a leader. Great leaders have the ability to establish a set direction and principles to guide their companies in an efficient way. It is believed that certain people possess traits that make them good leaders and researcher focus in personality, social, physical, or intellectual qualities that would identify them as leaders from the rest of the people. A few ideas have been developed over the years in the effort of define leadership. One of this is the Fiedler contingency modeland Hersey and Blanchard s Situation Theory. One of the situations that comes to mind is the story found in the Bible about Joshua when he was selected to spy the land of Canaan, and return to report on what was found, the land flowed with milk and honey. While others may only see problems before it true leaders can see possibilities and endure the opposition until they see an open door. If we focus on the idea that people can poses different personality and characteristics can be linked to successful leadership across various situation this would be defined as the trait theory of leadership. Some researcher believe that the ability to lead was something that a person was born with and not something that could be developed or learn. Many people still believe that leaders just have an intuition that makes them good at making decision and developing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Political Time Period Of The American Civil War In March, by Geraldine Brooks, we learn about the political time period of the American Civil War. The main character, Mr. March is an avid abolitionist on the Union side working as a chaplain. An idealistic Mr. March goes against his moral code of pacifism, and takes action by joining the American Civil War. If March is not as idealistic as he is, he never would have fought in the war. Throughout the novel, one recurring theme in Mr. March s life are his decisions whether to take action against injustices or not. Mr. March lives his life by the moral codes of his religious beliefs of pacifism, and anti slavery. When Mr. March is contemplating the idea of going to war, he considers one hand, if he goes he will be going against his religion of pacifism. On the other hand, if he goes, he would be impressing Marmee, fighting for abolitionism, and he believes others will respect him for being a solider. He decides to take action and put his abolitionist values, pride and Marmee s admiration above those of pacifism. If he does not take action, he would feel he had been a part of the continuation of slavery, and in his mind, commit a sin against slaves. Another time when Mr. March has to decide between action and inaction is when the rebel irregulars attack the plantation and take many people captive. Mr. March hides in a hole in the cotton seed pile, and when the rebel irregulars call for him to come out or they threaten to kill Ptolemy, he has to decide between ... • 54. Women In Lysistrata So often we imagine the people of the past as, if not quite stodgy, then definitely as less sexual than the current generation. Aristophanes Lysistrata, takes that idea and turns it on its head, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that people have always been sexual beings with appetites similar to our own. Aristophanesexcels at the bawdy double entendre and certainly this play can be enjoyed as nothing more than what it presents itself as, a farcical sexual comedy, but that would be doing it a great disservice. Aristophanes used the comedic situations and the women in Lysistrata and their struggle against a small group of old men, as a safe way to express his criticisms of the ongoing Peloponnesian War and the current government. The basic plot of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We re told in the introduction to the play that the women of Athenswere stereotypically seen as lustful, shamelessly sexual, and prone to drunkenness (765), not your typical activists. The women even say in regards to themselves, but what can women do that s sensible or grand? We re good and putting make up on, designer clothes and wigs and necklaces, imported gowns and fancy lingerie! (1.42 45) By having the characters admit they are lazy, alcoholic and lustful, it makes their role as main characters funny and the situation on the ridiculous side, otherwise the author s critique of the war, through the play, may not have been received well. Aristophanes must use women to couch his complaints against the government, because if he had used men doing the same things (occupying the citadel, taking over the money), it may have been seen as a call to arms rather than a commentary on their society. When such foolish creatures have to tell men what to do, the war the men are fighting must be pretty foolish indeed, he seems to say. Aristophanes uses the low status of women in Athens society to make his critique as non threatening as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Design Thinking and How It Will Change Management... Design Thinking and How It Will Change Management Education: An Interview and Discussion DAVID DUNNE ROGER MARTIN Joseph L. Rotman School of Management Roger Martin, dean of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, is interviewed on the subject of design thinking approaching managerial problems as designers approach design problems and its potential impact on management education. Under a design thinking paradigm, students would be encouraged to think broadly about problems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has spoken at several conferences on the subject. The Rotman School s magazine, Rotman Management, published a special issue on design in winter 2004 and on creativity in spring /summer 2006. In addition, Rotman hosted a conference, entitled The Future of the MBA in March 2006 that brought together the major critics of MBA programs. On the Rotman School s website, Martin claims: we are on the cusp of a design revolution in business, and as a result, today s business people don t need to understand designers better, they need to become designers. In this interview, Martin describes his interest in design thinking, how it will affect management education, and how it can address some of the criticisms recently leveled at MBA programs. How did you become interested in the topic of design in relation to management? It started with my encounters with Hambly and Woolley, a small design firm here in Toronto. Just by osmosis I got interested in the way they would think about problems. For example, one assignment was a hunting lodge where the owner was bankrupt and was selling off all of his property. The designer had to do a selling brochure for this extremely fancy lodge, but there was no budget for it. I was so fascinated with what he did: He created a very rough photo album with shots of the lodge mounted with those little black corners. I was fascinated at how he took this on with such joy, this notion of how on earth could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Binge Eating Disorder Case Study Pooh Pooh clearly has a problem. He is obsessed with honey and will do anything to acquire some. This is problematic since it interferes with his daily life. This can be called abnormal behavior, a behavior or even mental state that is different from what one can expect in a culture. Abnormal behavior usually comes from a psychological disorder (or multiple) where thoughts, feelings, and /or actions are distressful and dysfunctional. The symptoms of a psychological disorder have to interfere with one s health and daily activities, which Pooh experiences. This means that he has had an eating disorder. Pooh has the symptoms of a person that has an eating disorder, specifically binge eating disorder. Binge eating disorder, or BED, is a disorder in which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used to be very skeptical about those who would say that they have a binge eating disorder and even to those who were just big that said that they try to stop. I would see other people actually lose weight and look slimmer and not understand that not everyone works that way. I learned that everyone is different and that people eat different things. With this franchise, I understand better that even though it is fictional, there are still some issues that people have to deal with. I watched the franchise as if each character was a person and saw that all of these characters actually have a problem and I could watch a few characters as my own family members. This made me understand that even though it is a problem, not all the time can problems be fixed, such as Pooh s problem. In the end of it all, Pooh continues to eat honey and no one really stops him because it is what makes him happy. This creates the possibility that there is a correlation between binge eating and happiness in Pooh s life. This franchise challenges a few myths. One myth is that binge eating disorder is the same thing as bulimia. Whenever Pooh ate pots of honey, back to back, he would not purge after, instead he would burp and go to sleep. Another myth is that only women experience binge eating. Pooh is a male, his voice in the movies and TV shows is a masculine voice. In reality, binge eating affects both ...
