Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves
Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves
A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time
profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used
approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or
mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a
direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the
extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. (B6 )
Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the column
adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the
slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters
such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used
to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were
compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As
shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal
concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the
increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed
heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but
reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the
column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No
values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short
period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by
external mass transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27)
The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve

The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring
The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set centuries apart yet,
connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror writers and with this genre, semantics
can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe, focus on the various levels of semantics horror and
psychological. The semantic perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang, teenage
symbolism. With semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man with the scary
mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental irresponsibility, with these
hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of idioms, such as, I just had this call to
nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly used idioms were most directly, ones of love
and anger. Arnie due to the possession or should I say obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes
from chess club nerb to garage bralling bully. The bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they
come and he spoke like it. Keep your jock on, man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a Flavor
Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of semantic idioms. The semantic perspective is about
understanding meaning in words and their sentence structure. Shifts in meaning changes, especially
with slang words. The meaning of this popular American English culture novel was a metaphorical
teenage love triangle. For Poe, his short story, The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically

Essay on History and Memory
Gate 42 Analysis
Throughout gate 42, Mark Baker combines both assumed history and a plethora of evocative language
techniques to recreate the death of his grandmother, Hinda. From such a technique, one can infer that
when history and memory combine, the interplay allows a heightened understanding and perceptive
insight into events of the past; specifically the Holocaust.
Such a theory becomes evident within the opening of Gate 42, as Baker uses the repetitive symbol of a
Jewish poem to draw the reader within the text, allowing an emotional engagement to the horrors of
the Holocaust. Acting as a metaphor for the human condition, the humbling lover case i gives a
profound insight into the attitudes of the Jews, forced to believe they ... Show more content on

It is here that the power of representation becomes evident, as by utilizing both History and Memory,
Baker is able to both pay tribute to the dead and give dignity and identity to the victims of the
Holocaust. Such a notion becomes evident throughout the evocative simile we stand like a forest of
trees referring to not only the communal strength and courage of the Jews experiencing the Holocaust,
but adding a spiritual undertone to the text. By referring to the symbol of trees , one can infer that
Baker is making a link between the Holocaust, and the natural processes of the earth; specifically of
life and death. Such an image resonates with the reader as instead of viewing the Holocaust through
the typical horrific representation of documented fact, this portrayal provides a platform for a
heightened understanding and empathy toward such an event.
However, one must consider that despite the concept of memory adding an emotional impact to
documented evidence, the concept of history cannot be overlooked; as the Jewish words included in
the text such as Ay li lu and Scheller add gravitas to the recreation, allowing one to consider that it is a

Symbolism In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Your mother is in your bones (Tan 40). This theme is present throughout the novel, The Joy Luck
Club, by Amy Tan. The novel consists of four stories of mothers and daughters and their relationship.
Each family came from different backgrounds but still share the commonality of Chinese culture.
Each mother stayed true to their beliefs while each daughter allowed themselves to embrace their
American lives. The conflicting ideas between generations made their relationships more powerful
and brought them closer together in the end. Amy Tan uses symbolism to emphasize the meaning and
strength of each relationship. The symbols were able to connect the two by sharing a concept to both
of their lives. There were many different symbols that relate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The story of the magpies was told to An Mei when she was a child because she was upset about her
mother leaving. This same story is connected to Rose s life through her divorce with Ted. And for the
first time in months, after being in limbo all the time, everything stopped. All the questions: gone.
There were no choices. I had an empty feeling and I felt free, wild. From high inside my head I could
hear someone laughing (194). When Rose gets a divorce from Ted she finally feels free. In the
conversation prior, Ted was very controlling and upset that Rose had not signed the divorce papers
yet. This is significant because this is where Rose gained her freedom. Rose finally stopped crying and
letting the magpies laugh at her sorrow. In this situation, before Rose realized she was trapped and
needed to stand up for herself, Ted was the magpie. Ted had all of the power in the relationship and
was very controlling. After Rose realized she should be taken seriously, she took advantage of Ted s
frustration and took control of her life. She was able to stand up for herself and get what she wanted

Do Disney s Animated Movies Offer A Reflection Into The...
Final Research Question:
Do Disney s animated movies offer a reflection into the development and strengthening of Human
Rights throughout the 20th Century?
Provisional answer to question:
Human Rights can be defined simply as being fundamental rights which all human beings are
inherently entitled to regardless of their nation, location, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other
status. Although today basic Human Rights are mostly internationally recognized, this was not always
the case. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was only formally adopted in 1948 by the
United Nations General Assembly after the destruction of World War 2. Disney was founded in 1923
and since then has been active in releasing animated movies throughout the years. Always being
conscious of its younger audience, Disney accepted less graphic versions of fairytales told in hundreds
of different formats from as early as Ancient Greece and China. An example of this is the story of
Cinderella which was first noted by Greek Historian Strabo. Beautiful Sleeping Beauty in the first
known story told in the 12th Century as a Norse Saga was not awoken by a sweet kiss from a Prince
but alas was awoken by having her arm cut off. When this story was later adapted in 1528 through a
French Romance story called Peace forest and again retold in 1636 where poor Sleeping Beauty was
awoken by a married Prince who then raped her. In my opinion the fact that Disney acknowledged and
accepted the less vicious

Role Of Women In The Great Gatsby
A social group is a group of people, who share common characteristics and can be grouped together
by a common theme. Marginalization is the treatment of a person, group or concept as insignificant.
Social groups, such as women, are often marginalized from the rest of society due to unequal views on
women. Gender marginalization stems from the concept that men and women are not created equal
leading to disparate conduct and views of a gender. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, gender
roles are clearly recognized and the female being is presented as the less powerful, unimportant sex.
Through the examination of their own marginalization, the loss of identity of the emancipated women
of the Jazz Age and the unbalanced standards to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, women in The Great Gatsby are marginalized by the social patterns of the Jazz Age
resulting in a deprivation of their own identity. Despite their recent liberation, women are replicas of
each other; nothing more than impersonal, faceless objects. In August, 1920, the 19th Amendment,
granting women the right to vote, gave way to the emancipated women. Women or flappers, as they
are referred to, with their short hair and shiny dresses are identical in appearance, with little or no
individuality. While reflecting on the attendees at Gatsby s parties, Nick infers, Benny McClenahan
arrived always with four girls. They were never quite the same ones in physical person, but they were
so identical one with another that it inevitably seemed they had been there before (Fitzgerald 62). As
Nick observes, due to their similarity it makes it difficult to determine if it is a woman s first time at
one of Gatsby s parties. This exemplifies women s conformity to an unwritten social code and their
morphism into undistinguishable beings, simply an object of men s desires. Additionally, Nick s
nightmare after Gatsby s death illustrates another example of women s marginalization as a result of
their adherence to the social standards of the times. He dreams about a drunken woman in a white
evening dress being carried home by four men. Gravely the men turn in at a house the wrong house.

Hunting In Alaska
Many people hunt because, like people in Alaska need to hunt for food and hunting keeps animal
populations steady and not out of control. I hunt and from my experiences I have killed a snow
goose,1 Canada goose, 1 banded Canada goose, an 8 point buck, and a few ducks. Hunting is a great
outdoor activity that you can t do all year. People I know have been devastated because hunters have
been unsafe and killed their dog because they were too excited. Hunting helps control animal
population with safari hunts, conservation hunting, and is the best way to protect Africa s lion s.

Still, here are two reasons why safari hunts benefit hunters who pay for it. The first reason is, Many
countries could not bear those added administrative costs. They would have to forgo hunting and the
benefits derived from regulated tourist safari hunting. Many lion populations would perish with the
loss of hunting habitat, decline in enforcement and the rise in the lion livestock conflict. says John J.
Jackson, III . John is telling us that many of the countries need those added costs to hunters coming
overseas to hunt animals. The second reason is that when lion habitats are in hunting areas, Most lion
habitat is in hunting areas that, in aggregate, are larger than national parks. There is no other place for
them! A major source of revenue for the operating budgets of wildlife and enforcement authorities is
from licensed, regulated tourist safari hunting. A threatened listing would raise the cost of safaris,
cause the loss of habitat and prey, and upset local residents by taking away their benefits. Says John J.
Jackson, III. As you can see, many benefits come from hunting in Africa for many

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Biological Model and...
Developmental theories embody perspectives about environmental forces and human essence that
build a path of human development. Developmental psychopathology theories embody these
perspectives as well, and the information from normal and pathological human life courses enlighten
current models of development (Davies Bhugra, 2004). Thus, for instance, the healthy child and the
biological model both agree that certain predetermined behavioural pattern may be impervious to
environmental forces. Similarly, knowledge about relapse to previous patterns of behaviour
necessitates the re evaluation of the idea that every process of development is a change and; that every
previous pattern of behaviour is transformed into entirely new one ... Show more content on

The biological model distinguishes several of the studies in the genetics of psychological disorder
(Joseph, 2006). At this point, environmental factors, or the interface between them and the genes,
serve hardly any function in the possible result. For instance, Kallman s (1946 as cited in Joseph,
2006, 237) study on the genetic aspect of schizophrenia reinforces the application of the biological
model, just like the presence or absence of specific substances on depression (ibid, p. 237). In all of
these instances, the presence of specific attributes is presumed likely to influence a specific form of
pathology.
Even though the biological model is remarkable in its straightforwardness, it still has several
limitations; for instance, not every individual who has a genetic indicator at a specific point in time is
expected to display consequent psychopathology or a similar form of psychopathology (Miller Mason,
2002). For example the case that every child of schizophrenic parents does not develop schizophrenia,
or that not every monozygotic twin exhibits similarity in relation to schizophrenia indicates that other
factors have to be taken into account. It is vital to emphasise that the failure to come across a
significant prevalence of schizophrenic children of schizophrenic parents suggest that factors such as
immunity, coping approaches, and invulnerability to stress, are protective factors

Cognitive style, also known as thinking style, refers to the customary patterns of behaviors which

great varieties, such as field independent style and field dependent style, reflective style and impulsive

Wholist style tends to respond to cognitive task by holistic strategy. They are used to perceiving
material from the holistic perspective. There is a long span in reading comprehension. According to
research, English majors in the vocabulary learning, guess words in context. The reading material
provides them with information to help them guess the meaning. By students knowledge, experience,
common sense, contrast and analysis, they can guess the word s meaning. In the research, giving
English major an unknown word, at the same time, letting them read materials, thus, they can guess
the meaning by relating the word to the context, sentences, clauses or paragraphs. This is an effective
strategy to master words and vocabulary. Analytic style tends to pay more attention to the details and
procedures. They can establish clear and identifiable formation parts. That is the typical feature of
analytical style. In the vocabulary learning, English majors recognize word parts. For example, they
are given words, and they must break into parts. The word production , English major can rewrite the

5 3. The Lawsuit In this essay, the massive design war between mobile devices giants Apple and
Samsung will be summarized and reviewed. This lawsuit was the first of a series of ongoing lawsuits
between the two. Apple s multinational lawsuits concerning mainly technology patents became known
as the mobile device patent war; extensive litigation in fierce competition in the global market for
mobile devices and applications. 15 months after Apple first sued Samsung, the two companies were
both defendant and plaintiff in more than 50 lawsuits around the globe. The claimed damaged between
the corporations ran into the billions of dollars. In the end, Samsung won rulings in its favor in South
Korea, Japan and the UK. Apple won a ruling in its favor in the U.S. In this review, only the first
original lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California will be
addressed. The hostile standoff between the two corporate giants Apple and Samsung can be seen as a
shapeshifting space for intellectual property laws. This is because of the different interpretations of IP
law this case has evoked from the courts. The Lawsuit happened after the two corporations had several
meetings about intellectual property infringement issues that led nowhere. Over the course of several

Comparing James and Jung s Perspectives on Religious...
1. Are the perspectives on religious experience presented in William James Varieties and in Jung
compatible? Briefly explain and compare them.
For William James, his perspective on religious experience was skeptical. He divided religion between
institutional religion and personal religion. For institutional religion he made reference to the religious
group or organization that plays a critical part in the culture of a society. Personal religion he defined
as when an individual has a mystical experience which can occur regardless of the culture. James was
more focused on the personal religious experience, the feelings, acts, and experiences of individual

Central to Jung s process of finding one s innate potential was the idea of the numinous. This is
characterized by the power or presence of a divinity. This was closely related to the idea of
synchronicity, which is when two or more events that seem to be unrelated occur together in a
meaningful way, and would be unlikely to occur by chance.
Jung s idea of experiences of synchronicity included the presence of archetypes. An archetype is an
ideal example or model person that others copy or base their actions upon. Jung had archetypes such
as the animus, the anima, and the shadow. The animus is expressed as a masculine inner personality in
females, while the anima is expressed as a feminine inner personality in males. The shadow archetype
consists of repressed shortcomings, weaknesses, and instincts. These archetypes are of the collective
unconscious, and not based on people in their daily lives.
While there are some similarities between James and Jung s views on religious experience, there is
also a great deal of opposing views. James was focused on the mystic experience of religion as a
personal one and was not in favor of organized religion. Jung on the other hand, studied many
organized religions and believed that an institutional setting was beneficial in finding one s innate
potential. Clearly, they both believed that there was a definite psychological factor in religion, but
James had a personal psychological

Silver Nitrate Results
In account for weighing, because the sample is an unknown, students do not know what the sample is
or what it contains. The three samples of the unknown A had to be weighed around 0.4000g. If the
sample was not weighed at a quick rate, it would collect moisture from the air and disturb the
weighing process by causing it to be higher than expected. Because three samples had to be weighed
out at the same time, there was plenty of time for the unknown to collect moisture from the air
allowing the sample to contain more moisture and less of the unknown sample. Also, the weather
could affect the weight of the sample along with the season. During the summer time, humidity is
more common than in the winter. With humidity comes an abundant amount of moisture within an
area, specifically a laboratory. Before conducting the experiment, the equipment had to be washed

students to quickly conduct the portions of the lab where silver nitrate was used. If not, then a less
than 100% reaction would occur. It was also important for students to keep the silver nitrate in a dark

the following: 1) not using the same balance when weighing both the gooch crucibles and the

The Downside Of Teleporting In Star Trek
Teleportation
An Introduction to Teleporting
Beam me up, Scotty!
When Star Trek was first released in 1966, teleportation was only a dream. Now a days, people are
claiming that future generations as soon as great grandchildren will be able to teleport with ease.
There are, however, many things that Star Trek hasn t prepared fans for, and although there are many
perks to teleportation, people need to weigh in the risk factors as well. The pros may sound promising
but, the cons tremendously outweigh them.
The Downside of Teleportation
This paper could go on and on about the definition of life or crap like that, however that would be a
large waste of time and space. So, with that in mind, this paper shall continue on wayward.
First of all, by teleporting, all of the atoms in the human body would essentially deconstruct and then
reconstruct in a new place. With all of this assembling and disassembling taking place, an issue that
needs to be brought up and spoken about is whether or not there would be any mixed up body parts as
a complication. While the body is disassembling, the heart would temporarily stop beating and the
person would die . However, the person would not really die. The body would continue on with life . It
would just be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No more super slow text messages being sent in a group chat. Just teleport that information right over
to anyone of choosing. No telling when this will actually be possible, but it certainly does seem
worthy of trying out. The speed of light transfer of the encoded information from one photon to
another demonstrates the possibility of secure communication between a network of remotely located
quantum computers in the future.[3] This could lead to more secure networks on the governmental
level (if used properly) and maybe it could be open for the public to use in the more distant

The Congo Free State Of The Zaire
The Congo Free State was a former state in Africa which is now entitled The Democratic Republic of
the Congo. It was created in the 1880s as the private holding of European investors. The Congo was
led by Leopold II, who was the king of the Belgians. The members of the Congo Free State military
intentionally maimed, murdered, tortured and raped millions of Congolese people. Leopold believed
oversea colonies were the key to a country s greatest, so he worked to obtain colonial territory for
Belgium. Neither of the Belgian people and government were interested in his plan . Soon after he was
turned down by the government and people, Leopold began to develop a colony in his private capacity
as a typical citizen. After several ineffective schemes in Africa and/or Asia, he organized a private
holding company which was called, Association Internationale Africaine . It was disguised as an
International Scientific and Philanthropic Association in 1876. Leopold hired a famous explorer
named Henry Stanley to establish a colony in the Congo region. Stanley gained control of the land
from local chiefs through doth and trinket treaties. The chiefs assumed they were signing a friendship
treaty, instead they were selling their land. Leopold was free to rule the Congo Free State as a personal
domain, and soon he was the sole ruler of about thirty million people. The Congo Free State was a
terror regime which included mass killings and maiming. The first change to the Congo was the

Failure Vs. Success
Jason Williams Dr.Bess 9:25
Failure is much often a better teacher than success, Failure is practice towards becoming successful if
you always succeed you will never know what it feels like to fail and won t know how to react
whenever that time comes. It is everyone s dream to be successful, but success is very rarely given to
anyone. Everyone has obstacles to get over and their own set of trials and tribulations. What is really
important in life are the lessons learned from these events, teaching you more about yourself and the
object in which you are attempting to be successful in, and there is no better ... Show more content on

They weren t the same go out and have fun sports they became go out and win. This was new to me,
but I feel that it has taught me many valuable lessons. I have learned to be more patient, listen more
precise to what people have to say, and to also go out and give it my everything at whatever I was
doing. Being involved in sports for several years has helped me grow as an individual and elevating
my attitude not only towards life, but toward other people as well. When playing a sport, you are
taught to go out and win but to have fun at the same time. My freshman year I was on the J.V football
team and the season had just started. I was out on the floor and once the game started, I was trying too
hard and rushing my game. Being inexperienced at this level, we were losing the football game. Since
we were losing, we were not having fun. I was told by coaches and by myself that I needed to slow
down and regain my composure. As soon as I got that into my head, we began creeping back into the
game and we were on top by the fourth quarter. We were winning, having fun, and enjoying all the
glory. Ever since that football game I have remembered that day and made myself slow down if I am
hurrying things. I believe that this factor will carry on through life and make me a better individual.
All in all team sports can help to teach valuable lessons throughout life. First impressions are very
important to your every day life. They are the basis of how

Similarities Between the Scottsboro Boys and Tom Robinson...
There are many similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson in the novel,
To Kill a Mockingbird. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced
as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls by
nine black teenagers on a Southern railroad freight run on March 25, 1931 (Linder 1). The author of
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was a young girl during the Scottsboro trial and based the trial of
Tom Robinson in her novel off of the Scottsboro trial of 1931. The three main similarities between the
Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson are the geographic settings, the portrayal of racism, and
the specifics of the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both trials were based off of false accusations against black men. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom
Robinson was accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. And in the Scottsboro trial Charles Weems, Clarence
Norris, Andy Wright, Ozie Powelll, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie Roberson, Roy
Wright, and Haywood Patterson were accused of rape by Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, a known
prostitute. The witnesses for the state have presented themselves to you gentlemen, to this court, on
the cynical confidence that their testimony would not be doubted, confident that you gentlemen would
go along with them on the assumption the evil assumption that all Negros lie, that all Negros are
basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption
one associates with minds of their caliber (Lee 204). This quote was stated by Atticus in To Kill a
Mockingbird in the court and he is stating the beliefs of most people in the south during the Great
Depression. These trials took place during a time of segregation and racism so most people took the
side of the white women. Both of the juries and judges for these trials were white. Because of this, the
accused had no chance of getting equal treatment or justice. The last and most important similarity
between the Tom Robinson trial and the Scottsboro trial is the similarities within the court.

Stephen Crane s Poem War Is Kind
Prompt: How does Stephen Crane s poem, War is Kind convey universal themes reflected in Civil War
literature? Universal themes help convey Stephen Crane s Poem, War is KInd . These themes are
common among civil war litatureare. Crane uses Warfare, Life at home, and Patriotism. He uses these
three themes because they can cover what happened and how people felt during the wars. There is also
an ironic tone to the poem because it is difficult to understand war being kind in any way. War is Kind
is a poem that focuses on the loss of three women who have lost their lover, father. And son in the war.

Universal Themes
The universal theme of The Seven Ages of Man is that women and men live brief lives to play their
part before departing from mortality. The universal theme of Demeter is an obsessive mom trying to
get her child back. The universal theme in The Seven Ages of Man and Demeter have similar
universal themes because both themes are basically saying the choices made in life determines the
future. In The Seven Ages of Man one of the stages is the life of a school boy. The school boy
unwillingly attends school and lack discipline. As he grow, he grows into a more mature person. In the
text it states And then the whining g schoolboy, with his satchel and shining morning face, creeping
like snail unwillingly to school. The text also stated Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths, and bearded
like the pard, Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel This basic is an example of a boy that

The brink of extinction for every living organism is coming to its deadline. Having any sort of nuclear
power is a possible chance of having a nuclear disaster. There are numerous places that suffered from
nuclear disasters throughout the world. Ranging from power plant breakdowns all the way to nuclear

Research Paper On Abrahamic Religions
The Abrahamic religions refer to the three monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam,
all of which claim the prophet Abraham as their forefather. These religions account for more than half
of the world s total population today. All Abrahamic religions claim to worship only one god and that
God is their creator, ruler and judge. Christianity has a fundamental belief that follows the Trinity
doctrine and this contradicts the Jewish, Islamic and other monotheistic religions.
Judaism believes that there is only one God named Yahweh who was creator of all. The Masoretic
Text is foundation of all the various sects of the Hebrew religion.
Eventually Judaism evolved into the Christian Church with different beliefs and religious practices.
With Jesus Christ as their central figure who is recognized by almost all of the Christian

Life Long Learning Is The Key Axiom Of Life
Learning is one of the greatest aspects of life. Accepting that learning from all experiences leads to the
greatest version of yourself and your ultimate accomplishments is a key axiom of life. I believe that
lifelong learning is the most important concept and skill to have. A large amount of skills that make
people successful in their professional and academic careers comes from unconventional learning
which is a major part of the lifelong learning process. Unconventional learning develops many very
practical and applicable skills that help in a variety of areas. These unconventional concepts paired
with conventional learning and the ever growing drive for knowledge is known as Life Long
Learning. Lifelong Learning is the most important concept to grasp. There are three categories of
learning that are associated with lifelong learning. They are Formal Learning , which is affiliated with
the typical brick and mortar school. Formal learning is any clearly identified learning activity that
takes place in an organized, structured setting that leads to certification (Taylor, Trumpower, and
Pavic). The next type of learning is Non Formal Learning.Non Formal Learning is learning that
usually coincides with Formal education but is not measured or certified for proficiency. An example
of this would be someone going to a public speaking convention and learning new public speaking
skills but its does not lead to certification. The last type of learning is Informal

The Emergence Of The West
Throughout premodern history, the West held relatively idle next to their Asian and Middle Eastern
counterparts. However by the middle of the nineteenth century, the West emerged as a global
powerhouse. The West stood apart from their counterparts as the world s dominant economic, military,
and geopolitical powers. Their transformation didn t happen overnight, a chronological evaluation of
premodern events supported their emergence. From their plaques in late 14th century to their
dominance in by the 19th century, this chronological approach tracked the economic, military and
geopolitical changes of the West compared to their Asian counterparts. The chronological approach
included the Renaissance, the West s integration of gunpowder and print products, investments in the
British and Dutch East India companies, and their exploration for new land. The emergence of the
West began with the Renaissance in the late 14th century. WTWA mentioned the Ming harkened back
to Han Chinese traditions and the Ottomans looked to Sunni Islam to point the way forward, so
European elites looked to their own traditions for guidance as they rebuilt after the devastation of the
plague (WTWA 402). All three of the global powers reverted back the cultures of their past. Although
the West adhered to their counterparts strategy, they produced very different results. As conservative
cultures, the Han Chinese and the Islamic Ottomans growth stagnated. Respectively, their focus on

Rather, Fanon s holistic discussion of the process of decolonization echoed several familiar themes,
providing activists a reference point of reorientation during a time of increasing disillusionment and
alienation (motives of whites). (misinterpretation a larger us problem that was not restricted to
panthers). To better illustrate why Fanon s work stroke a chord with many activists, we first need to
consider Fanon s contribution to the study of the psychological effects of anti black racism and his
concept of decolonization. Born and raised in Martinique, Frantz Fanon grew up in a well to do
middle class environment. His mother in particular took great care that her son was well versed in the

The Prophet, Muhammad, Islam
The prophet, Muhammad founded Islam in 622 C.E. at the Arabian Peninsula. Judaism and
Christianity both originate in Palestine, but Judaism commenced over 3,500 years ago while
Christianity found its beginning in 33 C.E. Christianity was created by Christ, the son of God, while
Abraham was the man credited with founding Judaism. Assuredly, albeit Judaism, Christianity and
Islam were founded in divergent times, the religions still hold similarities in beliefs and teachings.
However, differentiations are still present and significant. In ancient times the religions of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam were founded. Admittedly, the religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
hold coinciding components as well as differing sectors; including the afterlife, political views, and
their gods.
To a degree Judaism and Christianity are fairly similar, withal possessing variations. For instance, both
theologies hold devotion and loyalty to a single deity. Judaism, and Christianity both are monotheistic
religions dedicating their allegiance to God. Moreover, the texts of both religions are comparable. The
most sacred Jewish reference is the Bible, comprising of the Jewish Bible and the New Testament. The
Christian Bible is constructed from the Old and New Testament. Thus, the two contrasting religions
exemplify the same text, The New Testament. Politically speaking, in both spiritualities the religion is
separate from the state, or government. Whereas theses comparisons are still

  • 2. Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. (B6 ) Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the column adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by external mass transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27) The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set centuries apart yet, connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror writers and with this genre, semantics can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe, focus on the various levels of semantics horror and psychological. The semantic perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang, teenage symbolism. With semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man with the scary mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental irresponsibility, with these hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of idioms, such as, I just had this call to nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly used idioms were most directly, ones of love and anger. Arnie due to the possession or should I say obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes from chess club nerb to garage bralling bully. The bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they come and he spoke like it. Keep your jock on, man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a Flavor Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of semantic idioms. The semantic perspective is about understanding meaning in words and their sentence structure. Shifts in meaning changes, especially with slang words. The meaning of this popular American English culture novel was a metaphorical teenage love triangle. For Poe, his short story, The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on History and Memory Gate 42 Analysis Throughout gate 42, Mark Baker combines both assumed history and a plethora of evocative language techniques to recreate the death of his grandmother, Hinda. From such a technique, one can infer that when history and memory combine, the interplay allows a heightened understanding and perceptive insight into events of the past; specifically the Holocaust. Such a theory becomes evident within the opening of Gate 42, as Baker uses the repetitive symbol of a Jewish poem to draw the reader within the text, allowing an emotional engagement to the horrors of the Holocaust. It is here that the power of representation becomes evident, as by utilizing both History and Memory, Baker is able to both pay tribute to the dead and give dignity and identity to the victims of the Holocaust. Such a notion becomes evident throughout the evocative simile we stand like a forest of trees referring to not only the communal strength and courage of the Jews experiencing the Holocaust, but adding a spiritual undertone to the text. By referring to the symbol of trees , one can infer that Baker is making a link between the Holocaust, and the natural processes of the earth; specifically of life and death. Such an image resonates with the reader as instead of viewing the Holocaust through the typical horrific representation of documented fact, this portrayal provides a platform for a heightened understanding and empathy toward such an event. However, one must consider that despite the concept of memory adding an emotional impact to documented evidence, the concept of history cannot be overlooked; as the Jewish words included in the text such as Ay li lu and Scheller add gravitas to the recreation, allowing one to consider that it is a credible and reliable ... • 8. Do Disney s Animated Movies Offer A Reflection Into The... Final Research Question: Do Disney s animated movies offer a reflection into the development and strengthening of Human Rights throughout the 20th Century? Provisional answer to question: Human Rights can be defined simply as being fundamental rights which all human beings are inherently entitled to regardless of their nation, location, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other status. Although today basic Human Rights are mostly internationally recognized, this was not always the case. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was only formally adopted in 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly after the destruction of World War 2. Disney was founded in 1923 and since then has been active in releasing animated movies throughout the years. Always being conscious of its younger audience, Disney accepted less graphic versions of fairytales told in hundreds of different formats from as early as Ancient Greece and China. An example of this is the story of Cinderella which was first noted by Greek Historian Strabo. Beautiful Sleeping Beauty in the first known story told in the 12th Century as a Norse Saga was not awoken by a sweet kiss from a Prince but alas was awoken by having her arm cut off. When this story was later adapted in 1528 through a French Romance story called Peace forest and again retold in 1636 where poor Sleeping Beauty was awoken by a married Prince who then raped her. Marginalization is the treatment of a person, group or concept as insignificant. Social groups, such as women, are often marginalized from the rest of society due to unequal views on women. Gender marginalization stems from the concept that men and women are not created equal leading to disparate conduct and views of a gender. In F. Furthermore, women in The Great Gatsby are marginalized by the social patterns of the Jazz Age resulting in a deprivation of their own identity. Despite their recent liberation, women are replicas of each other; nothing more than impersonal, faceless objects. In August, 1920, the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote, gave way to the emancipated women. Women or flappers, as they are referred to, with their short hair and shiny dresses are identical in appearance, with little or no individuality. While reflecting on the attendees at Gatsby s parties, Nick infers, Benny McClenahan arrived always with four girls. They were never quite the same ones in physical person, but they were so identical one with another that it inevitably seemed they had been there before (Fitzgerald 62). As Nick observes, due to their similarity it makes it difficult to determine if it is a woman s first time at one of Gatsby s parties. This exemplifies women s conformity to an unwritten social code and their morphism into undistinguishable beings, simply an object of men s desires. Additionally, Nick s nightmare after Gatsby s death illustrates another example of women s marginalization as a result of their adherence to the social standards of the times. He dreams about a drunken woman in a white evening dress being carried home by four men. Gravely the men turn in at a house the wrong house. But no one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Strengths and Weaknesses of the Biological Model and... Developmental theories embody perspectives about environmental forces and human essence that build a path of human development. Developmental psychopathology theories embody these perspectives as well, and the information from normal and pathological human life courses enlighten current models of development (Davies Bhugra, 2004). Thus, for instance, the healthy child and the biological model both agree that certain predetermined behavioural pattern may be impervious to environmental forces. Similarly, knowledge about relapse to previous patterns of behaviour necessitates the re evaluation of the idea that every process of development is a change and; that every previous pattern of behaviour is transformed into entirely new one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biological model distinguishes several of the studies in the genetics of psychological disorder (Joseph, 2006). At this point, environmental factors, or the interface between them and the genes, serve hardly any function in the possible result. For instance, Kallman s (1946 as cited in Joseph, 2006, 237) study on the genetic aspect of schizophrenia reinforces the application of the biological model, just like the presence or absence of specific substances on depression (ibid, p. 237). In all of these instances, the presence of specific attributes is presumed likely to influence a specific form of pathology. Even though the biological model is remarkable in its straightforwardness, it still has several limitations; for instance, not every individual who has a genetic indicator at a specific point in time is expected to display consequent psychopathology or a similar form of psychopathology (Miller Mason, 2002). For example the case that every child of schizophrenic parents does not develop schizophrenia, or that not every monozygotic twin exhibits similarity in relation to schizophrenia indicates that other factors have to be taken into account. It is vital to emphasise that the failure to come across a significant prevalence of schizophrenic children of schizophrenic parents suggest that factors such as immunity, coping approaches, and invulnerability to stress, are protective factors ... This lawsuit was the first of a series of ongoing lawsuits between the two. Apple s multinational lawsuits concerning mainly technology patents became known as the mobile device patent war; extensive litigation in fierce competition in the global market for mobile devices and applications. 15 months after Apple first sued Samsung, the two companies were both defendant and plaintiff in more than 50 lawsuits around the globe. The claimed damaged between the corporations ran into the billions of dollars. In the end, Samsung won rulings in its favor in South Korea, Japan and the UK. Apple won a ruling in its favor in the U.S. In this review, only the first original lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California will be addressed. The hostile standoff between the two corporate giants Apple and Samsung can be seen as a shapeshifting space for intellectual property laws. This is because of the different interpretations of IP law this case has evoked from the courts. The Lawsuit happened after the two corporations had several meetings about intellectual property infringement issues that led nowhere. • 15. Comparing James and Jung s Perspectives on Religious... 1. Are the perspectives on religious experience presented in William James Varieties and in Jung compatible? Briefly explain and compare them. For William James, his perspective on religious experience was skeptical. He divided religion between institutional religion and personal religion. For institutional religion he made reference to the religious group or organization that plays a critical part in the culture of a society. Personal religion he defined as when an individual has a mystical experience which can occur regardless of the culture. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Central to Jung s process of finding one s innate potential was the idea of the numinous. This is characterized by the power or presence of a divinity. This was closely related to the idea of synchronicity, which is when two or more events that seem to be unrelated occur together in a meaningful way, and would be unlikely to occur by chance. Jung s idea of experiences of synchronicity included the presence of archetypes. An archetype is an ideal example or model person that others copy or base their actions upon. Jung had archetypes such as the animus, the anima, and the shadow. The animus is expressed as a masculine inner personality in females, while the anima is expressed as a feminine inner personality in males. The shadow archetype consists of repressed shortcomings, weaknesses, and instincts. These archetypes are of the collective unconscious, and not based on people in their daily lives. While there are some similarities between James and Jung s views on religious experience, there is also a great deal of opposing views. James was focused on the mystic experience of religion as a personal one and was not in favor of organized religion. Jung on the other hand, studied many organized religions and believed that an institutional setting was beneficial in finding one s innate potential. Clearly, they both believed that there was a definite psychological factor in religion, but James had a personal psychological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If I have I completely forgot what it even was, I guess the name sounds more challenging than what it actually is. It allows you to think on a much deeper level as to where you are getting your information, also what the level of importunacy for each citation. This much needed detail is what a key to information, people need to know where information is coming from as well as the reader knowing the purpose. The three samples of the unknown A had to be weighed around 0.4000g. If the sample was not weighed at a quick rate, it would collect moisture from the air and disturb the weighing process by causing it to be higher than expected. Because three samples had to be weighed out at the same time, there was plenty of time for the unknown to collect moisture from the air allowing the sample to contain more moisture and less of the unknown sample. Also, the weather could affect the weight of the sample along with the season. During the summer time, humidity is more common than in the winter. Now a days, people are claiming that future generations as soon as great grandchildren will be able to teleport with ease. There are, however, many things that Star Trek hasn t prepared fans for, and although there are many perks to teleportation, people need to weigh in the risk factors as well. The pros may sound promising but, the cons tremendously outweigh them. It was created in the 1880s as the private holding of European investors. The Congo was led by Leopold II, who was the king of the Belgians. The members of the Congo Free State military intentionally maimed, murdered, tortured and raped millions of Congolese people. Leopold believed oversea colonies were the key to a country s greatest, so he worked to obtain colonial territory for Belgium. Neither of the Belgian people and government were interested in his plan . Soon after he was turned down by the government and people, Leopold began to develop a colony in his private capacity as a typical citizen. After several ineffective schemes in Africa and/or Asia, he organized a private holding company which was called, Association Internationale Africaine . It was disguised as an International Scientific and Philanthropic Association in 1876. Leopold hired a famous explorer named Henry Stanley to establish a colony in the Congo region. Stanley gained control of the land from local chiefs through doth and trinket treaties. The chiefs assumed they were signing a friendship treaty, instead they were selling their land.
