Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay
Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute,
the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change (Nichols, 2008, p.
346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to
develop shorter and more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback to solution focused therapy
would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more

Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life as the glass half full, instead of almost empty.
Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but
how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there? Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a
smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has ended,
and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002) found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a
severe phobia case, while he was working with a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely limit
your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life, such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his
client, Iveson discovered that the client did go up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on the
top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip down and back up. Once the client had remembered
what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on that success, which was then followed by

The Is The Strongest Version Of Yourself
Journey to Becoming the Strongest Version of Yourself
What will it entail? Ones journey to becoming the strongest version of oneself, does not encompass a step by step compendium to becoming a Greek
God. However, the primary purpose is to encourage social, physical and spiritual awakenings. Awakening from the grasp of society s claws and the social
order, which has controlled your entire life. Through a set of principles, you ll become aware of a better way to live and experience your life.
Principle I Understanding Human Relationships
The Six Kinds of People You Will Meet
Throughout your lifetime, you ll personally meet approximately 16,473 people, and at least one will either try to rape, mug, rob or murder you;
interesting! Besides this though, what does every individual actually mean to your personal development as a being of the universe?
The furthermost unexceptional kind of person one will encounter, is the Hater, most often than not, being a person who obtains little knowledge of your
true, human, being. However, it is deep within our natural instinct to endeavour a defensive status towards any unknown, untrustworthy threats. Naturally,
the human would either perform a battle cry or physical attack, in an attempt to warn off the threat by neutralizing it`s offensive efforts. However, society
has embedded our nature into civilization and now the human s displays a more neutral method of defensive, utilising verbal attacks and social order

Mozart Family Concert Review Paper
Mozart Family Concert
In late 2013, the Blue Ridge Orchestra was invited to be one of the featured ensembles in the Asheville Symphony s Mozart festival Asheville Amadeus.
After discussions with ASO Executive Director David Whitehill, it was decided in February of 2014 that the BRO would present a Family Concert on
March 21, 2015, the Saturday before the Finale concert with pianist Emanuel Ax. The challenge presented was to design a program that would appeal to
both Mozart novices and Mozart aficionados.

Violent Index Crimes
The city of Boston experienced a momentous spike in violent crimes from the years 2004 to 2006. Violent Index crimes consist of robbery, aggravated
assault, forcible rape, non negligent manslaughter and murder. These crimes, predominately robberies and assaults committed with guns, rose by nine
percent; the percentage of homicides also increased by 23. The communities experiencing these crimes were mainly those of minorities such as
Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury. Abruptly, the residents of Boston began losing faith in the Boston Police Department and their capabilities to keep
them safe. In order to gain back civility Commissioner Davis and the Boston Police Department enforced a policing program called Safe Street Teams.

They implemented community outreaches to deter the population from crime in a positive way rather than through fear or punishment and they increased
surveillance and security through their SSTs. The study does not reflect Rational Choice Theory because the SSTs are attempting to control crime through
fear, classical theories do not apply to this study. However, it does reflect Routine Activities Theory. Routine Activity is defined as crime and
victimization are highest in places where three factors come together in time and place: motivated offenders, suitable or attractive targets and absence of a
guardian, (Intro to Criminology, page 70). In these urban areas all three factors certainly come into play. Motivated offenders such as gangs or mislead
youth, attractive targets such as places with broken locks (that the SSTs repaired) and before the SSTs there was an absence of a constant guarding
authorities only coming when called for specific crimes. According to this study, the Neoclassical approach is more successful in crime prevention of all
sorts whether personal, property, etc. because crime is not black and white. There are always conditions to consider when convicting someone of a crime
such as be age, mental capacity and number of offenses. Classical is far too broad to properly and fairly deter

Black Panthers
The Black Panthers Party was founded by two African American men in 1966 in Oakland, California. Like many people of color, Huey Newton and
Bobby Seale were tired of the longstanding racism that oppressed many African American communities. They decided to take a stand and fight to end
such discrimination in order to obtain freedom from all kinds of oppression and control. The Black Panther party was a self defense movement, and they
had several objectives and beliefs to make changes in society. The Ten Point Program highlighted the Panthers set of ideals which encouraged black

The Mystery of Evil Found in Job Essay
The existence of famine, war, disease, and other distasteful aspects of humanity pose a tough, insistent question as to why God chose to create evil. As an
infinitely powerful creator, surely a morally perfect God can and should create a world where evil does not exist in the first place. To propose otherwise
seems to paint God as a malevolent being who apparently takes joy in watching the chaos. Bernard Leikind (2010) is a physicist who published an article
that paints a representation of the mystery of evil as seen by most non believers. In his article, Leikind uses the Old Testament biblical figure Job to
support a malevolent God who just as easily gives as he takes away. He references Job 38:1 4 (NIV):
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an agnostic, Ehrman represents the agnostic perspective. To address the mystery of evil, it is important to address this viewpoint as agnosticism does
not effectively handle the question of the mystery of evil. There is an understandably stout yearning in almost all humans, despite their beliefs, to hope
that pain and misery has definitive purpose, especially a purpose that makes sense in the context of our own existence. The desire to place suffering with
purpose has repeatedly lead cultures to seek out and worship gods (or the God) in return for safekeeping in times of calamity. This strong desire, in the
face of such travesty, is often given as evidence as to why the supernatural exists, or rather is created by humans. The desire to seek out God for
protection should not and cannot be misconstrued with the certainty of the divine. God does not offer protection from the depths of misfortune, but
healing in his unconditional love and self sacrifice. Joseph Conrad (1897) offers this explanation, What makes mankind tragic is not that they are victims
of nature, it is that they are conscious of it. To be part of the animal kingdom under the conditions of this earth is very well but as soon as you know your
slavery, the pain, the anger, the strife, the tragedy begins. In light of Conrad s observation, Ehrman seems petulant, railing against what he feels is fair and
what is not fair, blaming

The Impact Of Hate Crimes In America
Over the years, America has been prone to this violent act of hate crime that puts its citizens in a situation of distressed and confusion. Hate crimes have
been a part of America s history and culture for decades. Because America is a diverse country, the level of hate crimes is outrageous in many different
levels due to different cultures, ethnicities, skin colors, and religions. Hate crime is a serious act and has influenced our society today to look at certain
people a different way. It is not an act that people are born with rather than they are taught by it or it was inherited within a particular social group. With
the election of President Trump in 2016, hate crime activities have really increased in just a year s matter. President Donald Trump plays a role in really
highlighting these hate crimes and almost making it seem like he is promoting hate crimes though many of his speeches and statements. Of the many
factors that contribute to the highly increasing hate crime activities, there are four factors that I believe are contributing to the increasing hate crime
activities. Those four factors are thrill seeking, retaliation, mission offenders, and the income inequality. These factors all have a part into why hate crime
activities are increasing over the year. There are many different hate crimes in America. Hate crimes are considered as criminal offenses and depending
on which state this criminal offense has been committed, they have their own laws to rule over it. According to Jack Leven and Jack McDevitt, in their
article Hate Crimes, they explained, ..the vast majority of hate crime laws do not criminalize any new behavior; instead, they increase the penalty for
behaviors that are already against the law (Leven McDevitt, 2011). This is something that has been reviewed and updated over the years. As many new
behaviors to hate crime activity surface, those crimes will eventually fall under some old laws but the penalty of it will eventually increase. This hate
crime activity includes any acts that involve with any negative attitudes or prejudice toward anyone because of their race, religion, ethnicity, or gender. It
often leads to people being bias and showing a tremendous amount of hatred

A Pyrrhic Victory Is Defined, Per Merriam-Webster, As “A
A pyrrhic victory is defined, per Merriam Webster, as A victory that is not worth winning because so much is lost to achieve it. For much of America in
the era of the Vietnam War, the Tet Offensive could be defined as such a victory. In this paper I will first define the Tet Offensive in a concise manner,
give the arguments supporting an American victory and the reciprocal considering a North Vietnamese victory, and finally make a conclusion supporting
the thesis that in the long term, the North Vietnamese defeated the South Vietnamese and by proxy the Americans, peaking at the Tet Offensive. Early in
1968, the North Vietnamese concocted and pursued an attack on an American base near the town of Khe Sanh. The base, originally built in ... Show more

Starting at 3:00 A.M. on the 31st of January, the North Vietnamese regulars and Vietcong (North Vietnamese sympathizers and guerillas in South
Vietnam) performed attacks on many provincial capitals and major cities, also attacking U.S. bases. This force of over 80,000 men contributed to the
largest offensive action the Americans had seen since the start of the war. The size of the individual attacks varied but followed a rehearsed and well
planned out plan consisting of different waves starting with sappers, main forces, and propaganda forces. It becomes increasingly clear to the ARVN and
the U.S. forces that these attacks weren t just random hit runs that became the status quo of the enemy, this was a well thought attack strategy. The
military high command was still insisting that Khe Sanh was the real target of the large scale offensive and had underestimated the North Vietnamese
ability to congeal into a major offensive fighting force, while the media was watching it all. The exact ending date can be hard to pin down, and most
American accounts place it at the end of March with the lifting of the Siege of Khe Sanh. However, for the North Vietnamese, the fighting that continued
late into September was part of the plan starting with the Tet Offensive. After the heavy losses occurred during the earlier fighting, the North Vietnamese
sent down replacements of equal size to the original force, but the offensive came at no surprise to the Allies. For the military,

Cunningham Children s Home Case Study
With the declining number of kids coming into foster care, some changing dynamics in our state and local systems, and shifts in our strategic priorities,
the leadership at Cunningham Children s Home has diligently explored the long term financial sustainability of our foster care program. It is with mixed
feelings that we announce the closing of our foster care program while we shift our resources to serving families in different ways. This decision is also in
some ways a reason for celebration. Today, there are fewer kids in care than in the past which means kids are able to stay safely in their families. We
strongly believe that in most situations families can be supported while remaining together. This is why we are strategically expanding

The Metamorphosis Theme
The Metamorphosis by Kafka presents readers with an intensely claustrophobic and absurd premise featuring a protagonist that is so used to living like an
insect and so consumed with guilt that these elements of his life finally take over and lead to his demise. In this world Kafka creates, Gregor lives like an
insect even before his metamorphosis and this theme is developed at the beginning of the story when he wakes up to find that he has become what he
most resembled in his life.
The idea of guilt and scurrying about to please others figures prominently in this text and it is useful to look at the ways in which a compounding sense of
guilt leads to Gregor s final resignation to death in Kafka s short story, The Metamorphosis. For a man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His fate, it seems, is to provide for his family and there are several instances in which he laments his inability to provide for his mother, father, and dear
sister. The narrator states, revealing one of these themes in The Metamorphosis , Gregor s sole desire was to do his utmost to help the family to forget as
soon as possible the catastrophe which had overwhelmed the business and thrown them all into a state of complete despair (95) and this sense of blind
duty compels him to work a meaningless, menial job that has both figuratively and literally turned him into a filthy, scuttling, and helpless insect. While
this is true on a more basic level, the root of Gregor s problem stems from a deep seated feeling of guilt, an emotion that eventually leads to his demise.
By the end of the story, Gregor has completely lost his purpose and for a man that once existed simply as a utilitarian creature (again, like an insect since
he lives only to fulfill his duty to the group). At one point, his feelings of uselessness are described as, Gregor was now cut off from his mother, who was
perhaps nearly dying because of him; he dared not open the door for fear of frightening his sister, who had to stay with her mother, there was nothing he
could do but wait; and harassed by self reproach and worry he began to crawl to and fro (109) and it is clear that the guilt of being useless is mounting
and leading to his resignation in the face of

The Portland s Water System Essay
I have learned about the Portland s water system in the first of a few weeks. I have learned the Portland s water resources, water quality management,
history of water system, water transportation system, and water issues in Portland area. Now, I compare Portland s water system to another city in the
United States. I pick up Seattle s water system because I lived in Seattle for two years before I move to Portland, and I m interested in the Seattle s water
system. In this journal, I write about the following sections: History of Seattle s water system, water resources, water quality management, water
transportation, water issues in Seattle, and conclusion (similarities and differences between Seattle s water system and Portland s water system). History:
In the 19th century, Seattle s water came from springs, wells, and private water companies. However, the population of Seattle increased in the late 19th
century, and the demand for water supply also increased. In June 6, 1889, there was a large fire what is called Great Seattle Fire in downtown Seattle.
After this event, government decided to establish municipal water system. After this plan was approved, the government constructed the Cedar River
water system. On January 10th, 1901, water from the Cedar River flowed into Seattle s water system for the first time. A pipeline channeled water to the
Lincoln reservoirs and the Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. When the water system constructed, the water system capacity was 23.5

Life Events And Stress, Stressors And Frustration
Boot Camp Days Finally, it has come, the final paper! Although I will miss all the great things we learn about in class every week, I will not miss having
to think of information to type in these papers. This week the topics I have chosen to discuss are; life events and stress, stressors and frustration. The best
way I can relate to these topics is by talking about my personal experiences at Navy Boot Camp. The worst eight and a half weeks of my life.
The Good Beginning
My journey began, I was leaving the Tampa airport and heading to Chicago, destination Great Lakes, to become a sailor. At the airport, I was full of many
different thoughts and emotions, being excited, but scared of what was to come.
Arriving at the Chicago O Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer than I thought they would be. Before we left the
airport, we had to throw out anything we were not supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at
least I wasn t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base.
The Start of the Worst Arriving on base, we pulled up to a building and quickly loaded off the bus and filed in one by one. There were three different
people all yelling different directions. Sadly, the Petty Officers who picked us up from the airport, were not Recruit Division Commanders (RDC). My
hope of everything continuing to go well was shot down very quickly. Just being there five

Helicopter Parenting And Its Effects On Children And Young...
The research of this study deals with helicopter parenting and how it affects teenagers. Helicopter parenting (Parents that are too involved) is a major
social issue of concern in North America because researchers are learning that as teenagers grow up into young adults; their parents are becoming more
involved in their life, and making them more dependant. What are the effects of helicopter parenting on the ability for a child to become independent?
Thus, this Literature Review addresses the research on children that have at least one parent that displaces helicopter parenting and impact on children,
post secondary students, and becoming an adult? In order to fully understand the effects on kids throughout their aging process, an analysis of the broader
context, in terms of the findings of the research of experts in the field are needed. Thus, this Literature Review outlines the research on helicopter
parenting and its effects on children and young adults.
In recent years there has been a new social parenting norm known as helicopter parenting . With much research and progress on the topic, scientists have
revealed that there are actually two categories of this over protective caregiving. Tiger, snow plow parenting are often addressed as helicopter parenting,
and all three are the act of making a child dependent on their parent (A Miano, 2014). Specifically, tiger parenting is strict limitation to what a child can
do, weather that is to have a phone or a sleepover. Snow

Analysis Of Into The Wild By John Krakauer
In the book, Into The Wild, a journalist who was known as John Krakauer tells the story of Christopher Johnson McCandless, rather known as Alex.
Krakauer s use of stylistic devices throughout his book is quite phenomenal. Just a few examples of the stylistic techniques that he uses to uncover his
tone are: polysyndeton, anaphora, and antithesis. Krakauer remains indifferent towards Chris for a good 6 chapters, states all the facts, and tells the story
as it is. He uses no emotion appealing words to hint to us how he feels about Chris. His indifference is shown through his use of polysyndeton, which is
the use of several conjunctions when not necessary. One example of polysyndeton used in Into The Wild is, Because [McCandless] ... Show more content

His tone starts to become more admiring towards Chris when he states, if [McCandless] pitied himself in [his] last difficult hours because he was so
young, because he was alone, because his body had betrayed him and his will let him down it s not apparent in the photograph (Krakauer 199). This
shows that despite all the struggles Chris went through in his lifetime he dies peaceful and happy, when he out of all people, had all the reasons to hate
life and have a miserable death. The repetitive usage of the word because lists all the reasons Chris had die upset and un happy. Another example of
anaphora in Into The Wild is The marijuana of course only made the tent seem even more cramped, more suffocating, more impossible to bear (Krakauer

society and how it brings you down. The author starts to show more emotion towards Chris s decision of living in the wild. His indifferent tone slowly

Reflection Paper On Diabetes
In the spring of 2008 I was sent to the hospital . I was sent to hospital because my parents had been concerned about me losing a lot of weight and also I
did not want to eat anything because I kept getting sick from it . After all the testing that day the doctors later told me that I had type 1 diabetes . At first
when they had told me I was in shock because I had no idea what diabetes was . My mom had went out to talk to the doctors and when she had came
back in she told me that I had to spend a week at the hospital to get a feel for what diabetes was and ask the doctors any questions about what I was not
sure about . My first night in the hospital was them constantly having to wake me up to test my blood sugar and having to take insulin whenever I would
have to eat anything . Insulin is a hormone in your body that allows you to store glucose for future use . Every time I eat or drink something with
carbohydrates I have to take an insulin shot . Also doctors came into the room every hour to educate me more on diabetes .Even with all the doctors by
my side telling me I would be okay I still was worried about going back to school and getting judged by everyone and that the nurses office was going to
be my new place to visit everyday .
The next few nights in the hospital was a routine like the first night I had learn that I would not be able to eat as much sugar as I did before . Also that I

calendar every year. This was my wife s and I anniversary; however, this year I had it marked down for a different event. This was the day a friend from
my previous work was getting married. We discussed his Catholic belief a few times at work; consequently, when it was time for lent. As a result, I would
pick on him for eating meat when he was not aloud, but that was all I really knew about the religion. The night before the big day I called him, because
not knowing much about the Catholic wedding, I did not know what to wear. I did not know if I had to wear a suit or if I could wear khakis and a polo
shirt. So, he told me khakis would work with a nice dress shirt. When Saturday came, I did not know I would feel confused or fell as out of place as I did.
However, on the way to the church I figured this would be the typical wedding, where they would say their vows and the preacher would say you may
kiss the bride , then I could make it home to watch the end of the buckeye s game. Nevertheless, this is not how the wedding would go.

Modus operandi consists of motives, methods of killing, signature, and more. When investigators use the M.O to create a criminal profile, it becomes
easier for them to predict the killer s next move. Motives can either have a category of power driven, financial, or revenge/mission based. Power driven
killers tend to disable their victims in some way to have complete control over them. Ted Bundy falls under the category of power killer. He spent years
evading police all over the country. His modus operandi consisted of standing on the side of the road with a fake cast to get young women to help him
(Norris 218). When they walked over to help him, he incapacitated them and put them in his car. He removed the passenger seat from his car so he could
lay the bodies down without anyone seeing them in his car.
Many revenge killings take place because the perpetrator, wants to take their anger out on someone who reminds them of the person they hate. One
episode of Criminal Minds tells the story of a man who kills blonde women who look like his overbearing wife. The Green River Killer fits the mission
serial killer mould, characterized by the desire to seek revenge against a particular type of person

Brief Summary Of Bread Givers By Sara Smolinsky
Bread Givers is the story of an orthodox Jewish family who immigrate to the lower east side of New York City. Living in extreme poverty in the early
1900 s Sara Smolinsky, the youngest of the four Smolinsky daughters narrates the story of her struggles against patriarchy, poverty, and restrictive Jewish
practice at the turn of the century. Sara s father, Reb Smolinsky is a Rabbi and Talmudic scholar. While Reb spends all of his time studying the Torah so
he can get into heaven someday, his wife and daughters starve and worry about eviction. Accordingly, Reb believes that his wife and daughters only have
value to the point that they contribute to his comfort and happiness. Both verbally abusive and disrespectful of his wife and daughters Reb is a self
centered man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ending up in bad marriages, Sara s father then blames each daughter for the husbands they have, not taking the responsibility for his choices. Refusing to
go along with the old ways, Sara the youngest moves out, finds work; first in a laundry and then factory sweatshops, so she can go to night school and
then college. Reb disowns Sara for following her dreams and living her own way instead of living by the rules of the Torah. By the end of the book
though, Reb looks to Sara for financial support even though he was against her education. Bread Givers, told from the perspective of Sara Smolinsky is
an example of the struggles that immigrant women faced in early 1900 s under the patriarchal

Students Should Be Taught In School
The things being taught in school are not always what need to be taught in order for the student to succeed in life. The long math problems and odd
questions and classes taken do not always help us figure out the more important things people need to learn. Taxes and the classes that students would
most likely use in the career they wish to pursue are not always the classes taken or things taught in school. Teachers should not always assign the most
difficult or most outrageous problems in order to teach us problem solving skill but teach us things we will actually use in everyday life. Students should
be taught the basic skills, that students still do not know how to do, that will be used throughout their entire life. Taxes and learning

The Effects Of Video On Our Lives
In the video How to Live to be One Hundred Plus the main goal is trying to find the optimal lifestyle of longevity and come up with a formula for
longevity. Dan Buettner starts talking about three blue zones: Sardinia, Okinawa, and Loma Linda, CA. The first blue zone is in Sardinia, only up in the
highlands with an area called the Nuoro province. This part of Sardinia has an oldest male society, where 102 year olds ride bikes to work and chop
wood. Since the land is so infertile, people in this area are mostly shepherds, which means their exercise is regular low intensity physical activity. Their
diet is mostly plant based and consists of unleavened whole wheat bread called carta musica, cheese made from grass fed animals high in omega 3 fatty
acids, and Cannonau, a wine with three times the level of polyphenols. In this society, age and knowledge is thought of very highly, and is celebrated
through a centenarian of the month calendar. Keeping family around is also a big part of the culture and can add an extra 6 years of life expectancy, which
is also known as the grandmother effect.
The second blue zone is Okinawa, which is made up of 161 small islands and is 800 miles south of Tokyo. The northern part of the main island of
Okinawa is ground zero for world longevity and has the oldest female population. This society has the longest disability free life expectancy in the world.
Their diet consists of a plant based diet, full of vegetables with lots of color, and they eat

The Mesmerizer Essay
The essay The Mesmerizer by Mark Twain is a story about a young yet mature boy who encounters an opportunity to get noticed. This all happens when
Simmons, the hypnotist, comes to his town named Hannibal. At first the mesmerizer seems just like your average hypnotist, enchanting and intriguing.
But the real question is , Is this really an act? . When Twain takes the stage he instantly begins playing along and then realizes that Simmons is a fraud
just like himself. The townspeople have no clue though and still remain fascinated with every stunt, skit, and performance on the stage. The truth is that
they are all just actors in the story and in reality. The mesmerizer is just doing his job moving from town to town earning his living. ... Show more content

The age at which a boy is willing to endure all things, suffer all things short of death by fire if thereby he may be conspicuous and show off before the
public . This excerpt provides evidence that Twain was in it for the thrill of getting a rise out of people. He honestly admits that he acts out because of his
age, meaning that he must be but an actor of course young or old.
The audience also plays a big role when proving that it was all just an act. As it says in the story, they bought their way into the show and were amazed by
everything that was performed on the stage. Come forward and test him, ladies and gentlemen, the men and women both complied eagerly, and stuck pins
into both Hicks and Twain. The audience went along with this all and thought of it as entertainment, because they came up and actually participated in the
acts. This of course shows that the crowd really didn t know what the heck was going on. The mesmerizer was actually a hypnotist, bottom line.
The tone is very significant within a novel because it depicts how the author is feeling about the certain events that arise throughout the story. For
example, Twain s attitude in the novel makes us see that he is a real showoff. It also proves that he is in it for the attention and to receive a sense of self
worth. The pompous attitude only redirects us to the idea that it was all just for self gratitude and to provide an

Taking a Look at Hydroelectric Energy
Hydro electric energy (hydropower) has been in existence for more than 2000 years ago, which was firstly used for milling, grain, pumping of water and
so many more before been used for energy generation. Hydroelectricity is another form of electricity that is produced by using water as the resource for
generation, this simply means that when water is released (flow), it is aided by gravitational force therefore it generates Kinetic Energy (KE) which is
converted into mechanical energy by assistance of turbines and generators which convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy which is then
transferred to power lines in that form. South Africa, like many other developing countries have electricity challenges and one company in South Africa
have been the leader in terms of ensuring that South Africa is powered by hydro electric energy, among other alternative such of power. The company is
Eskom, South African largest producer of electrical energy, since it was established in 1923. Eskom have committed to promote health environmental
programs in line with the guideline of UNFCCC, and in its COP 17 fact sheet Eskom states thus: Eskom provides 95% of South Africa s electricity . The
main source of Eskom s electricity generation is thermal power plants. And even though according to electricity web link, Eskom disclose that, the
company relies on coal fired power stations, to produce more than 80% of the electricity. Furthermore, in order to subsidize the thermal power

My Academic Goals And Research Interests
My academic goals and research interests have developed significantly over the course of my undergraduate studies at Susquehanna University. When I
first arrived at Susquehanna I was a biology major and had dreams of medical school. However, by the end of freshman year, I began to develop an
interest in neuroscience. Declaring a major in neuroscience allowed me to explore the components of biology I loved, while incorporating psychology
and chemistry.
My research interests developed from my exposure to the various areas of neuroscience through my internships, research experiences and courses. I am
currently working on a research project, with the goal of gaining a more thorough understanding of the genes involved in lateral glial cell differentiation
in the central nervous system of Drosophila. I conduct genetic crosses to obtain the desired genomes and collect embryos for immunostaining. I examine
the expression of a conceptual gene, cg31235, which is solely expressed in longitudinal glial cells, in the presence of the genes Pointed P1 (PntP1) and
Reversed Polarity (Repo). Subsequently, I will then use immunostaining to examine the expression of PntP1 and Repo in order to determine whether they
regulate the genes involved in the in the development and function of longitudinal glia. Last fall, I presented my research proposal, which was followed
by a presentation at the Society of Developmental Biology this spring. These experiences have strengthened my desire to explore

Fall Accidents Caused By Accidents
Fall accidents have been determined to be the single main cause of injuries and fatalities in the construction industry in the United States. The numbers of
construction related fatalities from falls have declined between the years of 2006 through 2010, but the problem of falls consumes one third of the
construction industry work related fatalities. Construction related falls is at the top of the OSHA list of fatal four. Even with the staggering numbers
involving construction and falls there has been little evidence to show any decline in construction site falls. To go one step farther an employers duty to
provide fall protection is the most often cited violation during the author s research period of 2012 and 2013 based on OSHA statistics cited by the writer
(Siddiqui, 2014). Fall accidents tend to result in more serious injuries and proof of this is in the average missed time for employees who suffer a fall.
According to the writer of this particular paper reflects a minimum of ten days of missed work. Falls within the construction industry also reflected the
highest cost in worker s compensation and medical related expenses in direct cost. In direct cost in relation to fall injuries and fatalities are considerably
higher through slowed or stopped production (project delays) and this is more expensive than the direct cost. By reviewing OSHA s fatality inspection
data between the years of 1992 1995 it was found that there was 1,689 fatality inspections within the

Reaction To The Boston Massacre
The French and Indian War was a war that was funded by the British. After the war was finished, it caused Great Britain to go into debt. As a result of
this, British Parliament imposed taxes on the colonists. This angered many of the colonists because they had no say in the taxes that Parliament enforced
on to them. Many people thought that they should have no taxation without representation . This caused many different reactions from all of the colonists.
Some people thought that Parliament had no right to tax them and that they should have representation, and others thought that the taxes were unfair, but
there was no reason to act up against them. The actions that the British took after 1763 caused various reactions by the colonists. ... Show more content on

The Boston Massacre was a reaction to the British action. This started off with the British sending troops to Boston to watch over the city. Some of the
colonists thought that what the British was doing was unnecessary and that they didn t need any babysitters to watch over them. They also thought that
this was an invasion of their privacy. Tensions started to rise between the colonists and the British troops. This caused many fights between the colonists
and the British. One night, March 5th, 1770, the colonists started to throw rocks and attack the soldiers with clubs. From that point on, no one knew
exactly what happened, but we know that the British soldiers started to fire at the colonists. At the end of the night, 5 colonists were killed. The next day,
Paul Revere made an engraving of the event and he labeled it The Boston Massacre (Document 2). The engraving turned out to be very inaccurate, as
Paul Revere drew the colonists as innocent victims. The engraving was then printed many times and hung up throughout the city and the colony. Almost
all the colonists saw or had heard of the engraving within a week. Because of this false engraving, many colonists changed their view of the British. This
made the engraving that Paul made one of the most famous and useful propaganda . The Boston Massacre was, and still is, known as the first shots

The Emotional Brain Overpowering The Thinking Brain
In the psychopathologies mentioned above, one thing is common the emotional brain overpowering the thinking brain. Therefore, in dealing with these
psychopathologies, the main goal is to somehow wake the thinking brain up so that it could fire the needed neurons to finally control the emotional brain.
It can be as simple as trying to talk some sense into the person. This is because when a person is listening, it is the neocortex that is being used and will
therefore fire up more neurons. Just like the child who is throwing a random tantrum, instead of giving him or her at once the thing that he or she wants,
tell the child to calm down, tell him or her that he or she does not need to cry or shout or to even hurt people in order to get what

Lois Lowry s Number The Stars
An effective children s book is one that leaves an impression on the reader as well as leaves them wanting more. When children are first being introduced
to reading, they want books to appeal to their level and interests. Number the Stars, written by Lois Lowry, is an example of a book that is a stepping
stone to longer and more challenging books but still challenges the younger reader. This chapter book is set in the time during the Second World War and
focuses on Jewish families that are fighting to escape Nazi lead Germany. Number The Stars, focuses on a girl named Annemarie that is forced to show
courage and strength to help her best friend, Ellen, and her family to escape to Sweden so they are not caught by German soldiers. Annemarie is ... Show

For students, Number The Stars is centered on a ten year old girl named Annemarie. The book tells about the struggles that she goes through and how she
shows courage to overcome her doubts to do unthinkable things. When the main character is close to the age of the reader, they have the chance to make
comparisons, even if the book is not necessarily real life events. It is easy to make personal connections to characters that are similar to reader rather than
different. It can be difficult for a young reader to identify with a story about an extremely old character. If these connections can be made between the
reader and the content, the book becomes engaging and worth reading. Failure to find books that are relatable can lead to children never wishing to read.
In the case of Number The Stars, Lowry has a younger child as the center and allows for children to relate to it. Similar to this, the theme of the story is
something that makes Number The Stars an effective book for

  • 2. Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change (Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there? Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002) found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life, such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip down and back up. Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on that success, which was then followed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ones journey to becoming the strongest version of oneself, does not encompass a step by step compendium to becoming a Greek God. However, the primary purpose is to encourage social, physical and spiritual awakenings. Awakening from the grasp of society s claws and the social order, which has controlled your entire life. Besides this though, what does every individual actually mean to your personal development as a being of the universe? The furthermost unexceptional kind of person one will encounter, is the Hater, most often than not, being a person who obtains little knowledge of your true, human, being. However, it is deep within our natural instinct to endeavour a defensive status towards any unknown, untrustworthy threats. Naturally, the human would either perform a battle cry or physical attack, in an attempt to warn off the threat by neutralizing it`s offensive efforts. However, society has embedded our nature into civilization and now the human s displays a more neutral method of defensive, utilising verbal attacks and social order ... Mozart Family Concert Review Paper Mozart Family Concert In late 2013, the Blue Ridge Orchestra was invited to be one of the featured ensembles in the Asheville Symphony s Mozart festival Asheville Amadeus. After discussions with ASO Executive Director David Whitehill, it was decided in February of 2014 that the BRO would present a Family Concert on March 21, 2015, the Saturday before the Finale concert with pianist Emanuel Ax. The challenge presented was to design a program that would appeal to both Mozart novices and Mozart aficionados. Planning a successful concert requires imagination in addition to an understanding of the goals and logistics of concert presentation. • 6. Violent Index Crimes The city of Boston experienced a momentous spike in violent crimes from the years 2004 to 2006. Violent Index crimes consist of robbery, aggravated assault, forcible rape, non negligent manslaughter and murder. These crimes, predominately robberies and assaults committed with guns, rose by nine percent; the percentage of homicides also increased by 23. The communities experiencing these crimes were mainly those of minorities such as Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury. Abruptly, the residents of Boston began losing faith in the Boston Police Department and their capabilities to keep them safe. In order to gain back civility Commissioner Davis and the Boston Police Department enforced a policing program called Safe Street Teams. SST officers were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They implemented community outreaches to deter the population from crime in a positive way rather than through fear or punishment and they increased surveillance and security through their SSTs. The study does not reflect Rational Choice Theory because the SSTs are attempting to control crime through fear, classical theories do not apply to this study. However, it does reflect Routine Activities Theory. Routine Activity is defined as crime and victimization are highest in places where three factors come together in time and place: motivated offenders, suitable or attractive targets and absence of a guardian, (Intro to Criminology, page 70). In these urban areas all three factors certainly come into play. Motivated offenders such as gangs or mislead youth, attractive targets such as places with broken locks (that the SSTs repaired) and before the SSTs there was an absence of a constant guarding authorities only coming when called for specific crimes. According to this study, the Neoclassical approach is more successful in crime prevention of all sorts whether personal, property, etc. because crime is not black and white. There are always conditions to consider when convicting someone of a crime such as be age, mental capacity and number of offenses. Classical is far too broad to properly and fairly deter ... Like many people of color, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale were tired of the longstanding racism that oppressed many African American communities. They decided to take a stand and fight to end such discrimination in order to obtain freedom from all kinds of oppression and control. The Black Panther party was a self defense movement, and they had several objectives and beliefs to make changes in society. • 8. The Mystery of Evil Found in Job Essay The existence of famine, war, disease, and other distasteful aspects of humanity pose a tough, insistent question as to why God chose to create evil. As an infinitely powerful creator, surely a morally perfect God can and should create a world where evil does not exist in the first place. To propose otherwise seems to paint God as a malevolent being who apparently takes joy in watching the chaos. Bernard Leikind (2010) is a physicist who published an article that paints a representation of the mystery of evil as seen by most non believers. In his article, Leikind uses the Old Testament biblical figure Job to support a malevolent God who just as easily gives as he takes away. He references Job 38:1 4 (NIV): Then the Lord spoke to Job out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an agnostic, Ehrman represents the agnostic perspective. To address the mystery of evil, it is important to address this viewpoint as agnosticism does not effectively handle the question of the mystery of evil. There is an understandably stout yearning in almost all humans, despite their beliefs, to hope that pain and misery has definitive purpose, especially a purpose that makes sense in the context of our own existence. The desire to place suffering with purpose has repeatedly lead cultures to seek out and worship gods (or the God) in return for safekeeping in times of calamity. This strong desire, in the face of such travesty, is often given as evidence as to why the supernatural exists, or rather is created by humans. The desire to seek out God for protection should not and cannot be misconstrued with the certainty of the divine. God does not offer protection from the depths of misfortune, but healing in his unconditional love and self sacrifice. Joseph Conrad (1897) offers this explanation, What makes mankind tragic is not that they are victims of nature, it is that they are conscious of it. To be part of the animal kingdom under the conditions of this earth is very well but as soon as you know your slavery, the pain, the anger, the strife, the tragedy begins. In light of Conrad s observation, Ehrman seems petulant, railing against what he feels is fair and what is not fair, blaming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Impact Of Hate Crimes In America Over the years, America has been prone to this violent act of hate crime that puts its citizens in a situation of distressed and confusion. Hate crimes have been a part of America s history and culture for decades. Because America is a diverse country, the level of hate crimes is outrageous in many different levels due to different cultures, ethnicities, skin colors, and religions. Hate crime is a serious act and has influenced our society today to look at certain people a different way. It is not an act that people are born with rather than they are taught by it or it was inherited within a particular social group. With the election of President Trump in 2016, hate crime activities have really increased in just a year s matter. President Donald Trump plays a role in really highlighting these hate crimes and almost making it seem like he is promoting hate crimes though many of his speeches and statements. Of the many factors that contribute to the highly increasing hate crime activities, there are four factors that I believe are contributing to the increasing hate crime activities. Those four factors are thrill seeking, retaliation, mission offenders, and the income inequality. These factors all have a part into why hate crime activities are increasing over the year. There are many different hate crimes in America. Hate crimes are considered as criminal offenses and depending on which state this criminal offense has been committed, they have their own laws to rule over it. According to Jack Leven and Jack McDevitt, in their article Hate Crimes, they explained, ..the vast majority of hate crime laws do not criminalize any new behavior; instead, they increase the penalty for behaviors that are already against the law (Leven McDevitt, 2011). This is something that has been reviewed and updated over the years. As many new behaviors to hate crime activity surface, those crimes will eventually fall under some old laws but the penalty of it will eventually increase. This hate crime activity includes any acts that involve with any negative attitudes or prejudice toward anyone because of their race, religion, ethnicity, or gender. It often leads to people being bias and showing a tremendous amount of hatred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Pyrrhic Victory Is Defined, Per Merriam-Webster, As “A A pyrrhic victory is defined, per Merriam Webster, as A victory that is not worth winning because so much is lost to achieve it. For much of America in the era of the Vietnam War, the Tet Offensive could be defined as such a victory. In this paper I will first define the Tet Offensive in a concise manner, give the arguments supporting an American victory and the reciprocal considering a North Vietnamese victory, and finally make a conclusion supporting the thesis that in the long term, the North Vietnamese defeated the South Vietnamese and by proxy the Americans, peaking at the Tet Offensive. Early in 1968, the North Vietnamese concocted and pursued an attack on an American base near the town of Khe Sanh. The base, originally built in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting at 3:00 A.M. on the 31st of January, the North Vietnamese regulars and Vietcong (North Vietnamese sympathizers and guerillas in South Vietnam) performed attacks on many provincial capitals and major cities, also attacking U.S. bases. This force of over 80,000 men contributed to the largest offensive action the Americans had seen since the start of the war. The size of the individual attacks varied but followed a rehearsed and well planned out plan consisting of different waves starting with sappers, main forces, and propaganda forces. It becomes increasingly clear to the ARVN and the U.S. forces that these attacks weren t just random hit runs that became the status quo of the enemy, this was a well thought attack strategy. The military high command was still insisting that Khe Sanh was the real target of the large scale offensive and had underestimated the North Vietnamese ability to congeal into a major offensive fighting force, while the media was watching it all. The exact ending date can be hard to pin down, and most American accounts place it at the end of March with the lifting of the Siege of Khe Sanh. However, for the North Vietnamese, the fighting that continued late into September was part of the plan starting with the Tet Offensive. After the heavy losses occurred during the earlier fighting, the North Vietnamese sent down replacements of equal size to the original force, but the offensive came at no surprise to the Allies. Cunningham Children s Home Case Study With the declining number of kids coming into foster care, some changing dynamics in our state and local systems, and shifts in our strategic priorities, the leadership at Cunningham Children s Home has diligently explored the long term financial sustainability of our foster care program. It is with mixed feelings that we announce the closing of our foster care program while we shift our resources to serving families in different ways. This decision is also in some ways a reason for celebration. Today, there are fewer kids in care than in the past which means kids are able to stay safely in their families. • 12. The Metamorphosis Theme The Metamorphosis by Kafka presents readers with an intensely claustrophobic and absurd premise featuring a protagonist that is so used to living like an insect and so consumed with guilt that these elements of his life finally take over and lead to his demise. In this world Kafka creates, Gregor lives like an insect even before his metamorphosis and this theme is developed at the beginning of the story when he wakes up to find that he has become what he most resembled in his life. The idea of guilt and scurrying about to please others figures prominently in this text and it is useful to look at the ways in which a compounding sense of guilt leads to Gregor s final resignation to death in Kafka s short story, The Metamorphosis. For a man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His fate, it seems, is to provide for his family and there are several instances in which he laments his inability to provide for his mother, father, and dear sister. The narrator states, revealing one of these themes in The Metamorphosis , Gregor s sole desire was to do his utmost to help the family to forget as soon as possible the catastrophe which had overwhelmed the business and thrown them all into a state of complete despair (95) and this sense of blind duty compels him to work a meaningless, menial job that has both figuratively and literally turned him into a filthy, scuttling, and helpless insect. While this is true on a more basic level, the root of Gregor s problem stems from a deep seated feeling of guilt, an emotion that eventually leads to his demise. By the end of the story, Gregor has completely lost his purpose and for a man that once existed simply as a utilitarian creature (again, like an insect since he lives only to fulfill his duty to the group). At one point, his feelings of uselessness are described as, Gregor was now cut off from his mother, who was perhaps nearly dying because of him; he dared not open the door for fear of frightening his sister, who had to stay with her mother, there was nothing he could do but wait; and harassed by self reproach and worry he began to crawl to and fro (109) and it is clear that the guilt of being useless is mounting and leading to his resignation in the face of ... I have learned the Portland s water resources, water quality management, history of water system, water transportation system, and water issues in Portland area. Now, I compare Portland s water system to another city in the United States. I pick up Seattle s water system because I lived in Seattle for two years before I move to Portland, and I m interested in the Seattle s water system. In this journal, I write about the following sections: History of Seattle s water system, water resources, water quality management, water transportation, water issues in Seattle, and conclusion (similarities and differences between Seattle s water system and Portland s water system). History: In the 19th century, Seattle s water came from springs, wells, and private water companies. However, the population of Seattle increased in the late 19th century, and the demand for water supply also increased. In June 6, 1889, there was a large fire what is called Great Seattle Fire in downtown Seattle. After this event, government decided to establish municipal water system. After this plan was approved, the government constructed the Cedar River water system. On January 10th, 1901, water from the Cedar River flowed into Seattle s water system for the first time. A pipeline channeled water to the Lincoln reservoirs and the Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. When the water system constructed, the water system capacity was 23.5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although I will miss all the great things we learn about in class every week, I will not miss having to think of information to type in these papers. This week the topics I have chosen to discuss are; life events and stress, stressors and frustration. The best way I can relate to these topics is by talking about my personal experiences at Navy Boot Camp. The worst eight and a half weeks of my life. The Good Beginning My journey began, I was leaving the Tampa airport and heading to Chicago, destination Great Lakes, to become a sailor. At the airport, I was full of many different thoughts and emotions, being excited, but scared of what was to come. Arriving at the Chicago O Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer than I thought they would be. Before we left the airport, we had to throw out anything we were not supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at least I wasn t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base. The Start of the Worst Arriving on base, we pulled up to a building and quickly loaded off the bus and filed in one by one. There were three different people all yelling different directions. Sadly, the Petty Officers who picked us up from the airport, were not Recruit Division Commanders (RDC). My hope of everything continuing to go well was shot down very quickly. Tiger, snow plow parenting are often addressed as helicopter parenting, and all three are the act of making a child dependent on their parent (A Miano, 2014). Krakauer s use of stylistic devices throughout his book is quite phenomenal. Just a few examples of the stylistic techniques that he uses to uncover his tone are: polysyndeton, anaphora, and antithesis. Krakauer remains indifferent towards Chris for a good 6 chapters, states all the facts, and tells the story as it is. He uses no emotion appealing words to hint to us how he feels about Chris. I have attended many weddings; on the other hand, this was completely different than the standard wedding I imagined. September 23 has always been a day I marked on my calendar every year. This was my wife s and I anniversary; however, this year I had it marked down for a different event. This was the day a friend from my previous work was getting married. We discussed his Catholic belief a few times at work; consequently, when it was time for lent. As a result, I would pick on him for eating meat when he was not aloud, but that was all I really knew about the religion. I did not know if I had to wear a suit or if I could wear khakis and a polo shirt. So, he told me khakis would work with a nice dress shirt. When Saturday came, I did not know I would feel confused or fell as out of place as I did. However, on the way to the church I figured this would be the typical wedding, where they would say their vows and the preacher would say you may kiss the bride , then I could make it home to watch the end of the buckeye s game. Taking a Look at Hydroelectric Energy Hydro electric energy (hydropower) has been in existence for more than 2000 years ago, which was firstly used for milling, grain, pumping of water and so many more before been used for energy generation. Hydroelectricity is another form of electricity that is produced by using water as the resource for generation, this simply means that when water is released (flow), it is aided by gravitational force therefore it generates Kinetic Energy (KE) which is converted into mechanical energy by assistance of turbines and generators which convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy which is then transferred to power lines in that form.
