Sophocles Euripides Bacchae
Commentary on Bacchae Paul Woodruff s translation of the Greek play Euripides Bacchae tells the
story of the primary character Dionysus, who is the son of the Greek God Zeus. Dionysus is out to
seek his revenge on his mother s sisters, his grandfather Cadmus, and also his cousin Pentheus
because they have denied that he, Dionysus was born a God. Also important in this play is Pentheus
who was made King of Thebes as a young teenage boy by his grandfather who is also Cadmus.
Pentheus learns of Dionysus trying to change order in Thebes and Pentheus is determined to stop this
form happening at all costs. While reading this play, one may think it is good versus evil , with
Dionysus being good because he wants to bring song, dance, and joy ... Show more content on

Would any true God make a mother kill her child in the manner in which Agave did just so a point
could be proven? As for Pentheus being misunderstood, one could say that Pentheus is a teenage kid
who was just trying to rule Thebes the best he knew how, or what he thought at the time was right.
The play does not go into the depths of Pentheus background, childhood, or what his exact issue with
women is. His dislike, disgust, and annoyance with women leaves me as a reader to wonder if this is
just a phase of teenage puberty Pentheus does not know how to deal with, or is it a more deep seeded
issue such as, could he have been sexually abused by his mother or perhaps one of his aunts as a
child? We will never

BBA LLB Year 4
INTRODUCTION
Jurisdiction means the power or authority of a Court of law to hear and determine a cause or matter.[1]
It is the power to entertain, deal with and decide a suit, an action, petition or other proceeding.[2] In
Smt Ujjambai v. State of UP[3] it was stated that exclusion of jurisdiction means prevention or
prohibition to the court not to entertain or try any matter though the dispute is civil in nature.
Jurisdiction is a key question for the court which goes to the root of the case and decides the fate of a
matter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(7) An exclusion of the jurisdiction of the Civil Court is not readily to be inferred unless the conditions
above set down apply.
In Rajasthan SRTC v. Krishna Kant[7] it was laid down, (1) Where a dispute arises from the general
law of contract, i.e., where relief s are claimed on the basis of the general law of contract, a suit filed
in a civil court cannot be said to be not maintainable, even though such a dispute may also constitute
an industrial dispute within the meaning of section 2 (k) or section 2 A of the industrial Dispute
Act,1947.
(2) Where, however, a dispute involves recognition, observance or enforcement of any of the rights or
obligations created by the the industrial Dispute Act, the only remedy is to approach the famous
created by the said act. (3) Similarly, where a dispute involves the recognition, observance or
enforcement of rights and obligations created by enactments, like the industrial employment (standing
order) act, 1946 which can be called sister enactments to the industrial dispute act and which do not
provide a forum for resolution of such disputes, the only remedy shall be to approach the forums
created by the industrial dispute act provided they constitute industrial disputes within the meaning of
section 2(k) and section 2 A of the industrial dispute act or where such enactments says that such
dispute shall be adjudicated by any of the forums

The War Rule Of The 1870 s And 1920 S
It all took place between the 1870 s and 1920 s. Home rule was a huge part of the political life in
Ireland, which meant that the Irish Parliament would be restored for most issues, but the British
government would still cover many important areas (Conflict 3). The term Government Association
started to be used very frequently; Isaac Butt was the gentleman who founded this association. In 1873
this became known as the Home Rule League and in 1874 a general election was held where fifty
home rulers were elected to the Home Rule party also known as the Irish Parliamentary Party (Irish
29). Butts goal was to get both Protestants and Catholics to support Home Rule as a movement
targeted towards giving Ireland a federal government within the United Kingdom. Butt was not an
aggressive leader and the people of Ireland did not feel he was fulfilling his job completely. A man by
the name of Charles Stewart Parnell challenged Butt and became the leader in 1880 (Charles17). The
British people began to think that the Home Rule would lead to the separation of Ireland and Britain.
Parnell realized that the people did not like the British Rule and this is what caused them to support
Irish nationalism. In 1880 Parnell won the support of the Fenians and the Irish Republican
brotherhood that wanted total separation but were willing to compromise and accept Home Rule. In
1881 the second Land Act gave the Three F s which the Land League had demanded. Fair rents would

A Strong Personality That Goes Against The Patriarchal...

Merida has a strong personality that goes against the patriarchal idea of a weak woman. Merida does
not share in any womanly domestic activities championed by patriarchy and often performed by past
Disney princesses. In Disney movies, Princesses like Snow White and Cinderella are often shown
cleaning and cooking, but Merida enjoys physical activities such as horseback riding, rock climbing,
and archery. Sonja K. Foss, along with Cindy L. Griffin, built on Campbell s ideas about feminist
criticism in their essay Beyond Persuasion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, some will not support Merida is her feminist agenda due to messing up the flow of
entertainment via media. Laura Mulvy in her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema , backs
these claims by stating, In their traditional exhibitionist role women are simultaneously looked at and
displayed, with their appearance coded for strong visual and erotic impact so that they can be said to
connote to be looked at ness. Woman displayed as sexual object is the leit motif of erotic spectacle:
from pin ups to striptease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, therefore women are presence to
indispensable elements of spectacle in normal narrative film . Some misogynist movie goers and TV
watchers like to see women objectified and hyper sexualized because it keeps there attention and
usually the attention is what funds the films. If cartoons and films starting breaking down hyper
sexuality of women, such as Merida is attempting in this film, it could cause drastic change in
audience and possible decline in sales. Turning back to my original point, Merida is feminist because
she has the patriarchal idea of a weak. Merida is confident about her self and does not hesitate to take
control when she ought to, such as coming up with a plan to sneak Elinor in bear form out of the castle
or procuring food when she and her mother are in the woods. She insists on thinking for

What is Abortion?
As stated in the Merriam Webster Dictionary (2016) and Abortion (/e boar sheen) is the medical
procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause death of the fetus.
Abortions were widely used in the early eighteen hundreds and kept secret due public scrutineer. Not
only were they considered against the law in some places but were risky due to high risk of infection
from unsterile equipment used to perform the actions. Without today s current technology, maternal
and infant mortality rates during childbirth were extraordinarily high. (National abortion Federation,
2016) as time contained states changed and modified their laws to accommodate political agendas,
these opposed to legal abortion had begun to fight absent any stated funded abortion clines. Then there
was Roe v. Wade this was the first major Supreme Court battle based on abortion laws and ethics. Roe
v. Wade decision of the courts said that they considered the constitutionality of a Texas statute made it
a crime to obtain an abortion except when it was necessary to save the life of the mother . (Harris,
2014) There was another Supreme Court case that changed the views of the courts based on how they

Williams Hero Model
Williams fits into the Aristotelian tragic hero model because he was born slightly elevated status in the
1950 s Chicago society. Williams came from a pretty well known family; his mother being former
model Laurie McLaurin, and his father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams, a Ford Motor Company
executive. His great great grandfather was Mississippi Governor and Senator Anselm J. McLaurin.
Growing up in Chicago, Williams was lonesome and was often found playing with toys by himself in
his family s suburban mansion and not with any of the other kids his age. No one had thought that
Williams would become the brilliant comedian and actor that he became. Starting his career
performing at nightclubs in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Williams got his big break in 1978 when

The Human Cost Of Natural Disasters
Tropical storms are an incredible threat to humanity. The International Disaster Database (EM DAT)
recorded 6,873 natural disasters worldwide, which claimed 1.35 million lives or almost 68,000 lives
on average each year (The Human Cost of Natural Disasters 2015). Although shelters are of great use,
this form of relief requires days and often weeks to establish. Additionally, shelters must be built by
people and assembling teams of volunteers is not always easy or time efficient. This pertinent issue
combined with the leftover metal containers from the shipping industry is a blessing in disguise. This
trash scattered across the world has allowed some individuals to make elaborate designs. For example,
incorporating multiple containers to mimic a permanent house. To quickly provide assistance to those
negatively affected by tropical storms, mobile relief shelters shall be made from recycled shipping
containers. My proposal is to design a fleet of specially crafted, repurposed shipping containers that
will be stored on a ship owned by the UN. These 20 or 40 foot housing shelters are designed to house
maximum occupants and to be deployable within a matter of hours after a storm takes place. This
ready reserve vessel will have to ability to be activated within a minutes notice. This fast response
feature will ease stress in the devastating and intense times of a tropical storm. Upon arrival, the ship
will have its own cranes and booms to unload the shelters shore

In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay What is Literacy written by Linguist James
Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned skills to provide
a useful definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however, Gee must educate
the reader on various definitions, idea and numerous theories in an effort to provide support for his
conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes. It is my belief that
while Gee is eventually able to turn the reader to his way of thinking, he is not able to as eloquently as
he would like. In fact, upon closer examination, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

immediately adds the adjectives dominant and powerful as a means to better express the meaning of
the definition he has provided in the very next sentences. While I acknowledge that for purpose of this
essay Gee s definition may offer up a viable definition to support his arguments, it is by no means a
useful or working definition of the word anywhere

Evil-Revivalist Concept Of Evil
Philosophers have debated what evil is since the beginning of philosophy. Is evil an innate
characteristic in some people, or is evil simply a blanket term used to describe actions caused by
outside influences, e.g. upbringing, circumstance, or mental illness? What is the nature of evil? There
are two main sects of opinion for philosophers when it comes to evil: evil skeptics and evil revivalists
(Calder). Evil skeptics believe that we should abandon the concept of evil. Evil skeptics are of the
opinion that the concept of evil is problematic and should be abandoned, while other moral concepts,
such as right, wrong, good, and bad, are necessary. On the other hand, evil revivalists believe that the
concept of evil has a place in society. Evil skeptics have three main points in why the concept of evil
should be abandoned, as Todd Calder illustrates in The Concept of Evil : Evil skeptics give three main
reasons to abandon the concept of evil: (1) the concept of evil involves unwarranted metaphysical
commitments to dark spirits, the supernatural, or the devil; (2) the concept of evil is useless because it
lacks explanatory power; and (3) the concept of evil can be harmful or dangerous when used in moral,
political, and legal contexts, and so, it should not be used in those contexts, if at all. (Calder) Prior to
WWII, there was very little philosophical literature pertaining to the concept of evil; however,
philosophers have considered the nature and origins of evil in the broad sense since ancient times
(Calder). One theory on the origin of evil is called Manichaean dualism. As Calder describes in The
Concept of Evil : According to Manichaean dualism, the universe is the product of an ongoing battle
between two coequal and coeternal first principles: God and the Prince of Darkness...The Manichaean
solution to the problem of evil is that God is neither all powerful nor the sole creator of the world. God
is supremely good and creates only good things, but he or she is powerless to prevent the Prince of
Darkness from creating evil. (Calder) One main problem with Manichaean dualism is that, for a theist,
it is hard to accept the concept that God is not the all powerful creator he is thought to be. For that

pop culture has defined introversion in quite a few confusing ways. BRIEF HISTORY OF

Plato s The Symposium And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Stairway to Immortality Besides being a phenomenal writer and philosopher, it seems Plato had the
gift of foresight as well. At a glance, a Greek novel about love and an ancient Mesopotamian epic
seem to have nothing in common. However, what is interesting to see is that not only do the two share
very similar themes, but one acts as a how to guide for the other. In both novels, Plato s The
Symposium and The Epic of Gilgamesh, the main protagonists deal with the concept of immortality.
In Gilgamesh, the immortality Gilgamesh seeks to obtain is one that is fleeting and material, whereas
Plato discusses the so called right kind of immortality that one finds via pursuing knowledgeable love.
The Symposium shows how one can become immortal by following the correct path of love and
Gilgamesh serves as an example of what happens when one does not follow those rules. Because
Gilgamesh directs his desires toward immortality, but not the kind Diotima describes, he fails his quest
and remains miserable. Gilgamesh directs his desire not to reach the top of Diotima s ladder, which is
to become immortal by loving and spreading wisdom, and because of this, he can never become
immortal. The Symposium revolves around a Greek party made up of various men throwing around
their views on love, building up to height of the evening by a speech from Socrates. Socrates knows
the true way to obtain love, and tells of a tale between him and his mentor, Diotima. Through Diotima,
Socrates is able to

Pricing vs. Costing
To determine the price for the product or service, the firm must understand the costs for running the
business. If the price is not enough to recover costs, the cash flow will be negative and the business
will fail.
Costs include: o Property and equipment leases o Loan repayments o Inventory o Utilities o Financing
costs o Salaries/wages/commissions. o Markdowns o Shortages o Damaged merchandise o Employee
discounts o Desired profit
Profit should be added to the list of costs and treated as a fixed cost. Nobody runs a business just to
break even.
Pricing as a Component of the Marketing Mix
Generally, marketing mix denotes the four Ps of marketing:
Product
Price
Place (distribution)
Promotion Before a product is developed, a firm needs to come up with a marketing strategy. This
involves selecting the target market and product positioning. Usually, there has to be a balance
between product quality and price. This way, price plays an important role in the marketing mix.
Pricing will always be determined by these tradeoffs

The Dictionary States That Fracking Is A Method Used For
The dictionary states that fracking is a method used for getting oil and gas from underground rocks by
injecting liquid into the rocks so that they can break apart (Merriam Webster). Fracking can be a
controversial topic in numerous people s eyes due to the side effects that coincide with this procedure.
Fracking has evolved over the years and made a comeback around 2010. Lately, the United States has
heard tremendous news regarding this procedure and the drawbacks from fracking natural gases and
oil. Fracking can be beneficial; sadly, the side effects greatly outweigh the benefits. The environmental
risks, pollution, and the overall risk factors prove to not worth the risk of fracking. Fracking is a ...

The environmental risks that accompany fracking are potentially hazardous. In order to frack,
thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe
38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along
with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe
38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees situated on
the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for roadways. In
some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on
houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will
be fracked.
The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried
that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the
United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers.
This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the
Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the chemicals used to frack are not tested frequently in our water
(Lampe 34). Bordering on 20 to 40 percent of the water used to frack rises back up to the surface and
is stored on site (Lampe 34). An

Descriptive Essay On Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa has to be one of my favorite paintings of all time and has lead me to use this specific
painting as a topic for this paper. Not to mention the love I have for Leonardo da Vinci. I, myself have
always been drawn to da Vinci s paintings and all of his other achievements that he has given us
during his life. I, like Leonardo da Vinci love art and science just as much as it seems he did. He
shares a love of art and a fondness for science. It also seems that he loves a good mystery, and the
Mona Lisa just happens to be one clouded in mystery. And I too love a good mystery.
The Mona Lisa is respectively one of the most famous paintings in the history, and was painted by one
of the most infamous artist of all time Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo has his own mysteries, because no
one knows much about the man at all, aside from the basics. He was born on April 25, 1452 in Vinci,
Italy. His father was a notary and his mother was a maiden, they were never married, Leonardo was
their only child. However, his parents together had 17 other children. He was extremely intelligent and
was a master at many skills, science, math, architecture, art and was among the first to dissect a
human body. He began painting at the age of 14 as an apprentice for Andrea del Verrocchio. By the
age of 20 Leonardo had outshined his teacher and Verrocchio knew that he could never be as good as
da Vinci and he never painted again. Throughout da Vinci s life he painted many, many

Juvenile And Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile delinquency is a social issue in the United States today. Juvenile delinquency, is when a
violation of the law is committed by a juvenile and is not punishable by death or life imprisonment
(Juvenile Delinquency). The juvenile system is different from the adult system in many way and most
juvenile delinquents are from the age of ten to the age of seventeen (Juvenile Delinquent). Once the
delinquent or anyone is at the age of eighteen, they are considered to be an adult. Therefore, in the
justice system they are tried as an adult. There are many different reasons why a child would commit
crime, such as mental and physical factors, peer influence, home conditions, neighborhood
environment and school conditions. Teens are greatly influenced by the interactions and surroundings
they are around. Their behaviors can result from the parent and/or their peer influences. Parents play a
great role in the child s life and a teen s peers also play a strong role in how the teen behaves when the
parents are not insight. This research will examine links between the social environment of teens and
how it influences the teens actions and behavior which leads them to commit an offense.

The Characteristics Of The Inner Planets In The Solar System
The Solar System
A solar system is defined as a star together with a group of celestial bodies that are held by its
attraction and revolve around it. Our specific solar system contains the inner planets, the outer planets,
and other celestial bodies like moons, comets, and asteroids. All of these things revolve around the sun
in repeating cycles and add to the to beauty of the place in which we live, Earth which is the only life
sustaining inner planet.
The Inner Planets are the planets that are closest to the sun. These planets include Mercury, Venus,
Earth, and Mars, which are made of solid, dense rock. Even though these planets are composed of
similar materials, they all have unique characteristics that set them apart from other planets.
Mercury is the first planet in the solar system. It was named after the Roman messenger god because it
has the fastest orbit around the sun. Mercury is also the smallest planet in our solar system with a
diameter of only 3,031 miles. Because Mercury is so small, its gravitational pull is very weak.
Mercury s atmosphere is so small that it can be compared to artificial vacuums of earth. Because the
atmosphere is so thin, its temperature differs greatly between day and night. The average temperature
on Mars during the day is 800°F and at night it is 350°F. The temperature difference is really what sets
it apart from other planets (Watters 53 55).
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system with a temperature of 900°F. It seems

severely and in the race of looking best always people tend to use more chemical products to have
instant results. Women s always end up using hair products which can spoil the hair due to the strong
chemicals used in it or other such things which are not good for hairs. Ironing hairs, straightening
hairs with the use of chemicals, blow drying hairs, hair colors etc are the products in which there are
chances the hair will lose its natural quality and start deteriorating. Though chemical results are

Track And Field Analysis
With soccer, football and basketball becoming so popular, track and field is being left in the dust.
When several track and field events are televised only streamed to the internet such as ESPN3 or tape
delay, it lowers the viewership of the sport. The sport of track and field has been one of the country s
oldest sport. Back then, the highlights and stories of the track and field were national and athletes got
more notoriety. Now, athletes struggle for sponsorship to maintain a good lifestyle because they can t
get enough money to compete and live a life. Although the US track and field association denies the
decline of the sport, sponsorships, TV ratings, and the use of performance enhancing drugs prove
otherwise. Track and field in the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is the annual Millrose games.(Belson, par 3) The Millrose games is an indoor
track meet which host the best track and field stars of the U.S and on some occasions, in the world,
competing against each other on the famous Wanamaker mile as well as other events. According to
Ken Belson of the New York Times, after years of dwindling crowds and budget concerns, the
Millrose games moved from Madison Square Garden, where it had been held since 1914, to the
Armory Track and Field Center in 2012, a building with just 4,000 seats in Upper Manhattan. Even if
the event has been sold out every year, it could make even more money if it was held at Madison
Square Garden. Tickets for the event is $20 but after the tickets are gone, the average resale price is
$210. When the move happened in 2012, a tradition became disambiguous. The Wanamaker track at
the armory is synthetic while the traditional one at the Garden, which has been used since the
beginnings and has been refurbished ever since. The decline of track and field not only loses
attendance but also is losing the tradition and history of the

An Argument Against Abortion Essay
Abortion in America is a controversial issue in which both
sides have valid arguments at face value. The pro choice side has many
arguments to support it belief in keeping abortion legal. Many of these are
faulty, and argue points irrelevant to the issue as I will attempt to
illustrate, thereby eliminating the main pro choice arguments.
The pro life position has somewhat different ideas. The most
popular of these is: The unborn entity is fully human from the moment of
conception. Abortion results in the intentional death of the unborn entity.
Therefore, abortion can be defined the intentional killing of a human being.
This killing is in most cases unjustified, since the unborn human being has a ... Show more content on

The reason this argument doesn t work is because it is begging
the question. In fact, this lie hides behind a good percentage of the popular
arguments for the pro choice position. One begs the question when one assumes
what one is trying to prove is correct.
The question begging of the coat hanger argument is very obvious: but only by
assuming that the unborn are not fully human does the argument work. If the
unborn are not fully human, then the pro choicer has a legitimate concern,
just as one would have in overturning a law forbidding appendicitis
operations if countless people were needlessly dying of both appendicitis and
illegal operations. But if the unborn are fully human, this pro choice
argument is the same as saying that because people die or are harmed while
killing other people, the state should make it safe for them to do so.
Even some pro choicers, who argue for their position in other ways, admit
that the
coat hanger/back alley argument is crap. Although statistics cant establish
a particular moral position, there has been arguments over both the actual
number of illegal abortions and the number of women who died as a result of
them before legalization. Prior to Roe vs Wade, pro choicers used saying that
nearly a million women every year obtained illegal abortions performed

The Death Penalty And The Fifth Amendment Summary
In the article The Death Penalty and the Fifth Amendment written by Joseph Blocher, several concepts
surrounding the death penalty and its relation to the Fifth Amendment. Blocher is a law professor at
Duke University. His academic interests include constitutional law, the First and Second Amendments,
capital punishment, and property rights.
Blocher notes a particular argument: the death penalty must be constitutional because the Fifth
Amendment clearly allows it. However, Blocher takes a side on the issue and explains reasons why
this is not necessarily true. One of those reasons is that the death penalty was allowed and
constitutional at the time the Constitution was being written. The author comes to the conclusion that
there may be good arguments for the constitutionality of the death penalty, but the Fifth Amendment is
not one of them. Throughout the article Blocher explains his reason for believing that the Fifth
Amendment does not supply enough evidence to support the use of the death penalty. However,
Blocher also includes evidence that supports opinions that people who disagree with him may have.
He writes: Justice Scalia argued that the Fifth Amendment afforded a textual basis for the capital
punishment s continued constitutionality: The reason is obvious: It is impossible to hold
unconstitutional that which the Constitution explicitly contemplates. The Fifth Amendment provides
that [n]o person shall be held to answer for a capital . . . crime, unless on a

Pros And Cons Of The Keystone Pipeline
What is the Keystone Pipeline? On January 24, 2017 TransCanada submitted a third application for a
Presidential Permit to construct, operate, and maintain the Keystone pipeline system to import crude
across the international border of Canada into the US. Originally, TransCanada submitted an
application in 2008 and another in 2012 during President Obama s administration. The first two
applications received much scrutiny from the State Department, they conducted a combined total of
five Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), multiple public comment periods, and analyzed multiple
alternative routes. Figure 1 shows the entire route of the Keystone pipeline system from Hardisty,
Alberta, Canada through Oklahoma and down to Port Arthur, Texas. ... Show more content on

Many of the opponents argue the pipeline only creates temporary jobs for two years during
construction, and continually report the lower end estimated economic benefits. In contrast, the
proponents typically exaggerate the economic benefits proclaim the lasting stimulus the project will
provide. The truth usually lies somewhere in between. Undoubtedly, the construction phase of the
project will provide the most immediate benefit to the US economy than the operation and
maintenance phases of the project. During the construction phase, it is estimated that $3.4 billion
dollars would be added to the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). Of that, roughly $2.05 billion
would be earmarked for employee earnings related to the construction phase. However, after the
construction phase, approximately only 50 permanent employees and 15 temporary contractors would
remain to operate the pipeline. (Department of State, 2017) Evidently, this project will not provide a
long term windfall of economic stimulus. Nevertheless, $2.05 billion dollars in employee earnings in
the next two years during slower economic times is nothing to write

its common border with Austria Hungary such as Galicia. On that night, Austrian arms divisions
commenced a brief, unsuccessful assault of Belgrade over the River Danube.
My darling one and beautiful, everything tends towards catastrophe and collapse, This is the letter that
British naval officer Winston Churchill wrote to his wife a night of the war. He was confirmed right

same year had been met with defiance, Germany attacked Russia. France, one of the Russia s ally,
ordered its military generals to mobilize their men that same day and after two days, Germany and
France declared war on each other. The German s soldiers planned an assault on neutral Belgium on
August 4. This forced Britain to declare war on Germany. Consequently, in the summer of 1914, a

impacted the characters in The Lottery as they anxiously waiting upon the Mr. Summers and the black

biggest reform movements throughout Iranian society. One reform, such as greater access to higher
education for women at Tehran University, show significant gains compared to previous years in Iran.
One of the biggest points of controversy in the course of Reza Shah s rule was the abolition of the

As technology surrounding the internet has grown there has a been a new movement to connect the

To The Virgins To Make Much Of Time Poem
*Hook*. While both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick and Spring by
Enda St. Vincent Millay, rely on the imagery of nature and poem structure to present their theme, the
meaning of the techniques are very different. *Thesis, here state actual literary devices*
In the poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time , Herrick presents life as something that is
beautiful and should be taken advantage of. Herrick utilizes the imagery of nature to propose the
meaning of life and instructions to make it the best. Carpe Diem is an expression where one seizes the
day, just as one gather ye rose buds while ye may (line 1). Herrick creates an image of a field filled

Vincent Millay spring is conveyed as the opposite, death and a meaningless life. The natural imagery
that Millay applies to the poem is very dark and tense. On the surface the smell of the earth is good
(line 8), it is apparent that there is no death (line 9) in spring, but the truth is under ground are the
brains of men [,] eaten by maggots [,] life in itself is nothing (line 11 14). The image that is created in
this poem fluctuates as first we are presents with a lie, that spring is beautiful in its entirety. However,
Millay reveals the truth of spring by talking about its weaknesses. Although natural is related to
beauty, in this poem Millay utilizes the natural essence of the underground earth and maggots to create
a very horrific and intense profile of spring. In addition the plot twist surprises the reader not only
through the words but also by the sudden change in the visualization. This surprise quickly makes the
reader visualize spring as death, the underground and maggots , instead of the smell of the earth and
absence of death Millay appropriately utilize the imagery of nature to promote the theme of how
spring signifies death and a pointless life. Furthermore this signifies that image and existence of death
overwhelms the beauty that life

  • 2. Sophocles Euripides Bacchae Commentary on Bacchae Paul Woodruff s translation of the Greek play Euripides Bacchae tells the story of the primary character Dionysus, who is the son of the Greek God Zeus. Dionysus is out to seek his revenge on his mother s sisters, his grandfather Cadmus, and also his cousin Pentheus because they have denied that he, Dionysus was born a God. Also important in this play is Pentheus who was made King of Thebes as a young teenage boy by his grandfather who is also Cadmus. As for Pentheus being misunderstood, one could say that Pentheus is a teenage kid who was just trying to rule Thebes the best he knew how, or what he thought at the time was right. The play does not go into the depths of Pentheus background, childhood, or what his exact issue with women is. His dislike, disgust, and annoyance with women leaves me as a reader to wonder if this is just a phase of teenage puberty Pentheus does not know how to deal with, or is it a more deep seeded issue such as, could he have been sexually abused by his mother or perhaps one of his aunts as a child? • 4. The War Rule Of The 1870 s And 1920 S It all took place between the 1870 s and 1920 s. Home rule was a huge part of the political life in Ireland, which meant that the Irish Parliament would be restored for most issues, but the British government would still cover many important areas (Conflict 3). The term Government Association started to be used very frequently; Isaac Butt was the gentleman who founded this association. In 1873 this became known as the Home Rule League and in 1874 a general election was held where fifty home rulers were elected to the Home Rule party also known as the Irish Parliamentary Party (Irish 29). Butts goal was to get both Protestants and Catholics to support Home Rule as a movement targeted towards giving Ireland a federal government within the United Kingdom. Butt was not an aggressive leader and the people of Ireland did not feel he was fulfilling his job completely. A man by the name of Charles Stewart Parnell challenged Butt and became the leader in 1880 (Charles17). The British people began to think that the Home Rule would lead to the separation of Ireland and Britain. Parnell realized that the people did not like the British Rule and this is what caused them to support Irish nationalism. In 1880 Parnell won the support of the Fenians and the Irish Republican brotherhood that wanted total separation but were willing to compromise and accept Home Rule. In 1881 the second Land Act gave the Three F s which the Land League had demanded. Fair rents would be fixed by judges ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Woman displayed as sexual object is the leit motif of erotic spectacle: from pin ups to striptease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, therefore women are presence to indispensable elements of spectacle in normal narrative film . Some misogynist movie goers and TV watchers like to see women objectified and hyper sexualized because it keeps there attention and usually the attention is what funds the films. If cartoons and films starting breaking down hyper sexuality of women, such as Merida is attempting in this film, it could cause drastic change in audience and possible decline in sales. Turning back to my original point, Merida is feminist because she has the patriarchal idea of a weak. The International Disaster Database (EM DAT) recorded 6,873 natural disasters worldwide, which claimed 1.35 million lives or almost 68,000 lives on average each year (The Human Cost of Natural Disasters 2015). Although shelters are of great use, this form of relief requires days and often weeks to establish. Additionally, shelters must be built by people and assembling teams of volunteers is not always easy or time efficient. This pertinent issue combined with the leftover metal containers from the shipping industry is a blessing in disguise. This trash scattered across the world has allowed some individuals to make elaborate designs. For example, incorporating multiple containers to mimic a permanent house. To quickly provide assistance to those negatively affected by tropical storms, mobile relief shelters shall be made from recycled shipping containers. My proposal is to design a fleet of specially crafted, repurposed shipping containers that will be stored on a ship owned by the UN. These 20 or 40 foot housing shelters are designed to house maximum occupants and to be deployable within a matter of hours after a storm takes place. • 11. Evil-Revivalist Concept Of Evil Philosophers have debated what evil is since the beginning of philosophy. Is evil an innate characteristic in some people, or is evil simply a blanket term used to describe actions caused by outside influences, e.g. upbringing, circumstance, or mental illness? What is the nature of evil? There are two main sects of opinion for philosophers when it comes to evil: evil skeptics and evil revivalists (Calder). Evil skeptics believe that we should abandon the concept of evil. Evil skeptics are of the opinion that the concept of evil is problematic and should be abandoned, while other moral concepts, such as right, wrong, good, and bad, are necessary. On the other hand, evil revivalists believe that the concept of evil has a place in society. Evil skeptics have three main points in why the concept of evil should be abandoned, as Todd Calder illustrates in The Concept of Evil : Evil skeptics give three main reasons to abandon the concept of evil: (1) the concept of evil involves unwarranted metaphysical commitments to dark spirits, the supernatural, or the devil; (2) the concept of evil is useless because it lacks explanatory power; and (3) the concept of evil can be harmful or dangerous when used in moral, political, and legal contexts, and so, it should not be used in those contexts, if at all. (Calder) Prior to WWII, there was very little philosophical literature pertaining to the concept of evil; however, philosophers have considered the nature and origins of evil in the broad sense since ancient times (Calder). One theory on the origin of evil is called Manichaean dualism. As Calder describes in The Concept of Evil : According to Manichaean dualism, the universe is the product of an ongoing battle between two coequal and coeternal first principles: God and the Prince of Darkness...The Manichaean solution to the problem of evil is that God is neither all powerful nor the sole creator of the world. God is supremely good and creates only good things, but he or she is powerless to prevent the Prince of Darkness from creating evil. (Calder) One main problem with Manichaean dualism is that, for a theist, it is hard to accept the concept that God is not the all powerful creator he is thought to be. For that ... • 13. Plato s The Symposium And The Epic Of Gilgamesh Stairway to Immortality Besides being a phenomenal writer and philosopher, it seems Plato had the gift of foresight as well. At a glance, a Greek novel about love and an ancient Mesopotamian epic seem to have nothing in common. However, what is interesting to see is that not only do the two share very similar themes, but one acts as a how to guide for the other. In both novels, Plato s The Symposium and The Epic of Gilgamesh, the main protagonists deal with the concept of immortality. In Gilgamesh, the immortality Gilgamesh seeks to obtain is one that is fleeting and material, whereas Plato discusses the so called right kind of immortality that one finds via pursuing knowledgeable love. The Symposium shows how one can become immortal by following the correct path of love and Gilgamesh serves as an example of what happens when one does not follow those rules. Because Gilgamesh directs his desires toward immortality, but not the kind Diotima describes, he fails his quest and remains miserable. Gilgamesh directs his desire not to reach the top of Diotima s ladder, which is to become immortal by loving and spreading wisdom, and because of this, he can never become immortal. The Symposium revolves around a Greek party made up of various men throwing around their views on love, building up to height of the evening by a speech from Socrates. In order to frack, thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe 38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe 38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees situated on the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for roadways. In some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will be fracked. The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers. This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the chemicals used to frack are not tested frequently in our water (Lampe 34). All of these things revolve around the sun in repeating cycles and add to the to beauty of the place in which we live, Earth which is the only life sustaining inner planet. The Inner Planets are the planets that are closest to the sun. These planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, which are made of solid, dense rock. Even though these planets are composed of similar materials, they all have unique characteristics that set them apart from other planets. Mercury is the first planet in the solar system. It was named after the Roman messenger god because it has the fastest orbit around the sun. Mercury is also the smallest planet in our solar system with a diameter of only 3,031 miles.
