The Dna Samples Of Gophers Tested
Background
The DNA samples of gophers tested are prime examples of evolution. There are several evolutionary
processes that occurred with the species being study. Speciation occurred once a river causing their
gene pools to diverge separated the gophers. This evolutionary occurrence represents allopathic
speciation. Furthermore, once the species gene pool diverged the morphological species concept could
be observed. The Geomys attwateri is slightly larger than the Geomys brevicep by 10 mm. During this
evolutionary occurrence reproductive isolation may have occurred as well. Due to the species being
isolated geologically, interbreeding no longer occurred separating the gene flow of each population. If
these species were able to breed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Campbell) Although morphological observations help identify species they are not as accurate as
testing the DNA of species with similar resemblance. The most accurate way to identify species is to
extract their DNA and use bioinformatics. To decipher if a species by its morphology can be suggested
as a hypothesis, but the results of its DNA will identify the species accurately. Tissues samples can be
taken from the species in question, and the DNA can be extracted from tissue. Once the DNA is
extracted it can be amplified. DNA can be amplified by the PCR procedure, in which specific gene
regions can be used as barcodes to identify the species. These specific regions are known as
Cytochrome oxidase 1 and Cytochrome B. Once these regions are purified and amplified, the samples
can be sequenced, and the species can be identified. These procedures can solve many mysteries and
questions. The DNA sequencing of different species can identify where it falls on the phylogenetic
tree and where the population separated to produce a new species. These procedures help us
understand the evolution of ancestors to the present and the connection between each species. Two
separate species with multiple similarities can be observed, and bioinformatics can help answer that
question.
Purpose
There are several experiments that must be conducted before a species can be identified. The tissue
samples of these organisms must be obtained, and their tissues must

A Brief History Of United States Mental Health Care Essay
PRELIMINARY LITERATURE REVIEW A brief history of the United States mental health care The
United States has never had an official federal centered approach for mental health care facilities,
entrusting its responsibility to the states throughout the history. The earliest initiatives in this field took
place in the 18th century, when Virginia built its first asylum and Pennsylvania Hospital reserved its
basement to house individuals with mental disorders (Sundararaman, 2009). During the 19th century,
other services were built, but their overall lack of quality was alarming. Even then, researchers and
professionals in the mental health field attempted to implement the principles of the so called public
health, focusing on prevention and early intervention, but the funds were in the hands of the local
governments, which prevented significant advances in this direction. In 1946, President Truman
signed the National Mental Health Act, allowing federal funds for education and research in mental
health. By the time of the Great Depression and the World War II, asylums were in unsustainable
conditions and traumatized veterans were returning home needing psychiatric attention. Also in a
federal extent, Congress passed the Mental Health Study Act in 1955, establishing a commission to
check policies and propose reforms in psychiatric treatments. Around that time the
deinstitutionalization movement started changing the mental health picture. In 1963, the Mental
Health Community Act

God s Rescue Operation By Wright Essay
God s Rescue Operation
Wright, in his book Simply Christian: Why Christianity Exists, argues that God has no intention of
abandoning this world , instead God has a glorious rescue operation planned, raising all His people to
new bodily life to live in it . (Wright 58) God has begun this magnificent rescue operation utilizing
Israel, the Church, and Jesus to complete his plan. Through these three, Wright believes that God
intends for the kingdom of the world to become kingdom of God in which the beauty of this world
will be enfolded in the beauty of God , only completing his rescue operation when the present world is
rescued, healed, restored, and completed. (Wright 78)
Israel, a nation with a history of insurgence, turmoil, and agony, is the start of God s rescue operation.
Israel, in the Bible, serves as a representation of the entirety of all of God s children. The story of
Israel itself has several common themes of going away and coming back home; of slavery and exodus;
of exile and restoration and these themes relate directly to Christianity s own themes. (Wright 75)
These leitmotifs are nothing new or desolate for the Jewish people. Israel is consistently in the news,
going through trials or being restored from them. More recent examples of these would be the
Holocaust, the restoration of the nation of Israel to their promised land, and the current issues between
the Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem regarding the ownership of the Temple Mount.

INTRODUCTION
Christ is the central person in Christian discipleship. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and
there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to
learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Christ is central to Christian discipleship because He is the
teacher of His disciples. Through the Holy Spirit and Word of God, Jesus Christ calls His disciples to
Him and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God disciplines those whom He loves and uses those whom follow His commandments. Jesus was
hanged on a cross and crucified so that we would have the opportunity to be saved. He suffered for us,
so we should take up our cross on a daily basis and follow Him. Christians must submit to Christ in
order to be used by Christ. When a person submits to Christ, the Holy Spirit will empower him to be
used of God. If a person does not submit to Christ, then the Holy Spirit will be quenched and the
Christian will be disciplined by God. Disciples of Christ do not receive salvation because they obey
God, but they obey God and submit to Christ because they have salvation (Rogers, Adrian, 2005).
Jesus told the disciples that if they call him Lord they must do what he commands (Matthew 7:22). To
be a disciple of Christ, we must submit to Jesus and trust that He is our Lord and Savior. We must
have faith in Him and look to Him as our guide. Disciples of Christ should obey Jesus because God is
not a man, but a sovereign God who has every right to command His disciples. Christ is not just a
sovereign God, but also a saving God who suffered on a cross so that humans could receive salvation.
Disciples of Christ who are saved by grace are not their own, but bought with a price that Jesus paid
on the cross. Dietrich Bonhoeffer: The disciples are called blessed because they have obeyed the call
of Jesus.2 To be a disciple of Christ, we must

Freewill Essay
Freewill
Many have wondered whether free will exists or not. Some argue yes, some argue no. For now, I will
say no. I will begin my argument with a scenario. Say a man has an enemy that he hates very strongly.
One day this guy makes a conscious decision to kill his enemy. He calculates every move he needs to
make to kill his enemy and succeeds in doing so. Clearly, this man is guilty of murder. The question is,
should blame fall on this man for killing another?
Currently, all societies in the world are built around some moral basis that holds a person responsible
for their actions. A determinist, however, would disagree and say that people are not free, and
therefore are not at fault for their actions. Human acts are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are certain variables, like baking a cake, which are accounted for such as being late, the rush it
gives, or just because the wind feels good.
Whatever the case may be, the act is caused. In the eyes of a determinist, caused acts have only one
option. If there is only one option, then there is no freedom. So, the question arises, are all acts
caused? To answer this question we must first look at the human brain and mind. Historically, when
we talk about human acts we seem to be able to predict why a human acted the way they did. For
example, while watching something like Montel, the host attempts to reason why a person s problem
occurred. The audience then makes suggestions on how to remedy the situation. If the topic is about
relationships, then the show leads to questions about relationships and why they occur. Just about
every time a guest asks a question about an abusive boyfriend, the host asks what their family life was
like. The overwhelming response is that people who enter into abusive relationships had abusive
families. If we relate this back to the human brain and say an abusive family is a variable for an
abusive boyfriend, we find that this act can be predicted.
The human mind/brain appears to be broken into two parts. The first we will call instinct. The human
instinct consists of all things that are embedded in the human mind for survival, like the need

Ezekiel s Vision And Prophetic Declaration Of A New Temple
Introduction Ezekiel s vision and prophetic declaration of a new temple is among the most debatable
text within the Old Testament. In the twenty fifth year of Ezekiel s exile, God instructed him to look
and listen carefully by paying close attention to everything that he was shown. Not only was he
supposed to see, hear and grasp, he also had to provide this information to Israel (Ez 40:4) . The vision
was to provide hope, a spiritual renewal and a future depiction of Israel s restoration.
Although the prophet Ezekiel, in chapters 40 48, delineated an imaginative depiction of a future
temple, ancient and modern scholars view the text as problematic and devise exceptional challenges in
its interpretation. Both scholars and theologians endeavor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Understanding biblical prophecy will help to dispel most questions pertaining to who the text was
written for and for what manner, eschatological suppositions, and present and future application.
Secondly, it is important to understand biblical prophecy and Scripture so that a connection can be
drawn between the Old and New Testament, and how it relates to Christ and his impending return.
Many parishioners desire to comprehend what will take place during the end times, obtain a clearer
picture of how the Millennial kingdom will look, and what role will they assume as a Christian. Being

Unruly Americans And The Origins Of The Constitution
1. Purpose of Book The main purpose behind the book Unruly Americans and the Origins of the
Constitution, by Woody Holton is to demonstrate the authors view on the true intent of the Framers
when writing the Constitution. Although at first glance the book may seem to uphold the idea that the
framers wrote the Constitution in order to protect civil liberties, Holton has a different opinion. To
avoid a one sided book, the author not only looks at the framers intent, but the struggles facing the
American people. This book emphasizes the alternative interpretations offered by Americans on the
origins of the Constitution. Holton s purpose with this book was to show that the framers interests
involved making America more attractive to investors. In order to do so, they purposefully made the
government less democratic with the writing of the Constitution. However, with the addition of the
Bill of Rights, one could argue the Framers had at least a slight concern for the American people and
their civil liberties. In offering alternative interpretations of the origins of the Constitution, the author
accomplishes his secondary purpose, to make the reader challenge what they know about the framing
of the Constitution. Holton details the rebellion of the Unruly Americans against the state and national
governments, using Adonijah Mathews as an ultimate example of the common man. Mathews views
are presented in order to contrast the views of James Madison, whom it seems the author

Dog Park Building
I firmly support the building of a public dog park in the residential area in the city of Muscatine, Iowa.
Apartment buildings have very little yard space, which leaves the only exercise alternative a daily
walk in the neighborhood. I have lived in cities that have ordinances with no dogs aloud off leash in
public areas, it makes exercising dogs properly very difficult. My dog used to go crazy when I couldn
t get her the proper exercise after being cooped up all day.
Exercise is very important to dog s mental and physical health. Being socialized around other dogs is
important for proper behavioral issues to avoid attacking a strange dog or a person. New York City
reports the use of off leash dog parks lowered the dog bite incidents from 40,000 to fewer than 4,000
per year. Those numbers show over 90% decrease in reported incidents, making safety an added bonus
for the neighborhood residents as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
animal shelters house 2 million pet dogs due to bad behavior, and the dogs being lonely or poorly
exercised is partly responsible for these numbers. I used to go to the local shelters and visit all the
dogs abandoned or mistreated because of these reasons. Pet owners would be less likely to let their
dogs loose in empty lots or city parks to exercise. Everyone in the community would benefit with
higher property values, as statistics show that 37% of Americans who own dogs usually look for a
place to live with a dog park close by.
I agree that a dog park would benefit all, I think the city should vote to build a dog park

Kim Souzzi Religion Analysis
Kim Souzzi was 23 when she succumbed glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer that is incurable;
however, her legacy lives on through what in the past was just science fiction. Kim s brain is
cryogenically frozen in the hopes that it one day can be mapped and her conscious be uploaded to a
computer. Experts in the field of neuroscience disagree whether or not the process is possible as time
and technology are potent variables. Despite being riddled with moral, fundamental, and scientific
questions Kim raised funding via her online blog and Reddit. There were mixed comments on Kim s
blog, many supportive of her endeavor and many on the contrary. Ideals clash when it comes to human

Kim s passion was neuroscience and studying the brain and it is only appropriate that she sought a
higher cause following her death. Kim was denied a legacy dying so young so she hopes for a second
chance with the advance of technology. It is therefore no question of science, religion, or morals;
rather it is that her dying wishes right or wrong. We all have our own rituals surrounding death.
Whether it is burial, cremation, cast into the ocean, or even used to further science, there is a purpose
in the final rite. Kim s story is a touching one because like she states in the video on New York Times,
she could just be buried and nothing more would come from that. Furthermore, she decides to
continue sponsoring her passions even after death. No matter what paradigm or perspective one takes,
Kim pursued what she truly loved in the hope that one day she will be a part of something greater than
herself. Technology and science are not ready for the ambitions of Kim; however, time is the
dependent factor in which science fiction will become science reality. I support her decision and what
she is doing, she follows her ambitions and although peculiar and eccentric, they are however her final
wishes and the opinions of the masses are irrelevant. The question of whether or not the computer
with Kim s conscious is her or not, because that is a clash of science and philosophy. People are afraid
of what they do not know. Virtual Mortality may be the key to preserving ideas of great minds,
musicians, philosophers, inventors and innovators. Death will not be overcome by the prospect of the
digital conscious rather life will continue. What was once history will continue to the future. Kim s
endeavor represents progress and if possible and successful will change the way death is

Born James Paul McCartney in Liverpool, England on June 18, 1942 into a lower middle class family,
Paul McCartney was raised by a traditional working class family. His mother was a maternity nurse

Introduction
The publication of the Unfair Advantage by the Worker s Freedom of Association [this is not in your

the Labour ministry all over the world. Countries such as Canada and Australia came into the lime

revitalization of the labour movement. It is a move that saw the International Human Rights Day
declared a holiday [where?] as it is does Labour Day. The advocates on the human rights approach
work hand in hand with the human rights allies of the inexorable internationalization of the labour
struggles.[source?] They allowed the naming and shaming of the labour laws abusers and
infringement. These acts were more responsive to the current political and economic zeitgeist than the
traditional labour influences. On the other hand, reframing of human rights was seen to result to
authoritativeness to the labour discourse that would undermine trade unionists. [explain] While the
voices of those advocating for the framing of human rights was loud enough, others saw this move as
misplaced. It was a fact that the

Comparsion of Jack London s The Call of the Wild and John...
This is the four line epigraph present on the first page of The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Before
you try to find how this section of Atavism by John Myers O Hara, relates to the theme of The Call of
the Wild, you must understand the words used. Nomadic means moving around and not staying in one
place. O Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it should say that your nomadic
longings are leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you stay in one place for a long time,
your instincts (old longings from ancestors) to move from place to place (to be nomadic) are going to
flare up. Chafing means to cause annoyance. By using the phrase Chafing at custom s chain O Hara
means that you are being annoyed by traditional ways. Custom s chain refers to these traditional ways.
Therefore the feelings to want to become nomadic are clashing with the feelings of following tradition
s ways. Brumal means wintry. O Hara is using this as a metaphor with the direct meaning being
waking up from winter hibernation, but the deeper meaning is the realization or awakening of the need
to break away from traditional ways. Ferine means wild and strain in this case means type. When O
Hara uses ferine as an adjective to describe strain, he is referring to the wild side we each have due to
our natural instincts. All in all Old longings nomadic leap, Chafing at custom s chain; Again from its
brumal sleep wakens the ferine strain, means we are

The Forms Of Birth Control In The 19th Century
For thousands of years forms of birth control have been around. People have fought for hundreds of
years to make birth control available to all women. Birth control was banned at point in the United
Sates. According to the authors at Wikipedia.org, Contraception was not restricted by the law in the
United States throughout most of the 19th century, but in the 1870s a social purity movement grew in
strength, aimed at outlawing vice in general, and prostitution and obscenity in particular. Composed
primarily of Protestant moral reformers and middle class women, the Victorian era campaign also
attacked contraception, which was viewed as an immoral practice that promoted prostitution and
venereal disease. The earliest forms of birth control was reported around 3000 B.C. Condoms were
made from fish bladders, linen sheaths, and even animal intestines. In the 1500 s, the first spermicides,
chemicals that kill sperm, were used to kill spermatozoa. The first condoms were made from linen
cloth sheaths and soaked in chemical solution and dried before using. In 1838, condoms and
diaphragms were made from vulcanized rubber. A diaphragm is a shallow, bendable cup that you put
inside your vagina. It covers your cervix during sex to prevent pregnancy. In 1873, the Comstock Act
passed in the United States prohibiting advertisements, information, and distribution of birth control
and allowing the postal service to confiscate birth control sold through the mail. In 1916, Margaret

Human Destruction Of The Biosphere Essay
The biologist E.O. Wilson estimated in 2002 that if current rates of human destruction of the biosphere
continue, one half of all plant and animal species of life on earth will be extinct in 100 years. In a
survey in1998 conducted by the New York s American Museum of Natural nearly of 70% of the 400
biologists interested believed that the Earth is currently in the early stages of a human caused mass
extinction, known as the Holocene extinction. In that survey, the same proportion of respondents
agreed with the prediction that up to 20% of all living populations could become extinct within 30
years (by 2028). Probably these predictions are too catastrophic and is quite impossible to claim the
mass extinction in a short term, but these are clear advises of how much deep and negative is the

Complexities Of Community College Culture Essay
Complexities of Community College Culture
Brooke Adkison Head
University of Alabama
Abstract
Community colleges do not have a single culture, but rather a myriad of cultures. The culture of an
institution in higher education may not fit into a traditional model due to the complexity of academic
culture. Within an institution, there is a dominate culture, as well as subcultures that exist. In addition,
there are administrative cultures that may interact with the academic culture. The administration,
faculty, staff, and students of an institution influence the culture, institutional goals, as well as
individual success. Due to increasing demands and greater accountability in higher education,
administrators are faced with greater challenges. At the community college level, there is an
expectation for timely responsiveness to meet the needs of the community and workforce. Educational
institutions must demonstrate sensitivity to the existing culture when addressing challenges in order to
make progress.

Female Characters In The Odyssey
In the epic s that have been taught to us this school year, the female characters have been strong willed
and have been a romantic interest of the protagonists. They also either have tragic hardships or died
which in turn brings their good characteristics into view. The female characters we will be talking
about are Penelope, from The Odyssey, and Eurydice, from Orpheus and Eurydice.
In The Odyssey, The female character Penelope, Odysseus s wife, withstood the constant requests of
the suitors who wished to take her hand and waited for Odysseus return from the battlefront of the
Trojan War. In Ithica, she endured never releasing hope he would return for 10 long years after the
Trojan War. With his return she was elated but knew her trials

My First Ride At Night
It was eleven o clock at night. The rain showered my face as I ran through dirt and gravel towards my
step father s familiar police car, and with each step I took, rain water splashed in every direction. I
hurriedly jumped into the lifelessly black passenger seat of the police car. This was my first time
sitting a cruiser, and it was much more petite than I had expected. Studying the inside of the cruiser, I
noticed that the interior of the car was entirely the blackest of black, completely colorless and boring. I
was eager to go on my first ride along. I could not help but to imagine what I may witness. Although I
knew the chances of something exciting happening were slim, I held on to that miniscule chance of
having an exciting night. My step father, Andy, jumped into the driver seat of his police car, which
appeared to be quite sizable compared to the passenger seat that I resided in. He turned on the
computer that rested in between he and I as I glanced over at the computer as curiosity had struck
about what was on it. There was an assortment of letters and numbers; I had not the slightest clue as to
what they meant. The only thing I knew, was that the assortment was a series of police codes. Andy
informed me that the first thing he does, at the beginning of each shift, is to get gas because he is not
allowed to get bellow a half of a tank for safety reasons. As we drove to a Duchess Shop, I looked out
of the window, studying the cars that we passed. Each car

The task force was charged with conducting a jobcomponent job analysis (Ash, 1982) for the set of
functions falling under the generic title, personnel assessment specialist. This set of functions included
personnel assessment in general, including maintenance and improvement efforts in the areas of job
analysis, selection, 3
training needs assessment, performance appraisal, program evaluation, and organizational
effectiveness. The primary product is a set of tasks (organized into job dimensions) for the occupation
of personnel assessment specialist, and the specification of requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities
(KSA s) for journey level performance of the tasks in each respective job dimension.
This information has continuing utility with regard to the types of jobs studied for such personnel
activities as job design, job description/classification, staff selection/promotion, staff

Today, anyone can use a camera to capture a photo with a single click in a single second. However;
this type of advanced camera was nonexistent during the renaissance when photographers were using
camera obscuras to project inverted images of the things that were outside the of the obscura. It wasn t
until the 19th century that the development of the chemical needed to capture an actual image became
available. Even though people were now able to photograph, the lengthy process that it took to register
a single image made photography nearly impossible. For instance, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce took
more than 6 hours to capture the first photographs ever taken.
During the 19th century, there were several technological improvements that made photography a
more convenient task. Some of these improvements included the daguerreotype process invented in
1839 by photographer Louis Daguerre. This invention allowed photographers to capture images with
shorter exposure to light thus, creating longer lasting photographs. A few years later, a man by the
name of William Henry Fox Talbot invented the calotype process which allowed several copies of an
image to be produced using a negative paper image. The two most significant technological ... Show

Analysis Of 320 By Emily Dickinson 320
Emily Dickinson wrote 320 in a form in a form that is not traditional. It is written in a closed sense
given it is written quatrains that frequently rhyme, but it does not fall into a traditional pattern.
Dickinson generally follows the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic
tetrameter and the second and fourth lines in iambic trimeter. Other times, she uses Trochees in
random times making the form sound choppy. For example, in the first stanza she uses the trochee
certain and winter . Both of these create a rough sentence. The poem goes into pause at many times
throughout the poem, thus bringing out the dissatisfaction and difficult time the poem is describing.
There is no way to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was
somebody parallel or close to herself; however, in 320 there are no signs of if it is Dickinson or one of
her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a group, as the
only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it could be a small
group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and their view of God.
Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the booming sounds of large
cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds a negative connotation to
these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson uses the metaphor of a slant of
light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the slant of light opens, it is essentially
opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the body; however, the heartbreak from the
pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her soul. She follows this theme through the
entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive
tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light / Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a
small light shining through on a white surface. This tone quickly changes when it is followed by That
oppresses, like the Heft / Of Cathedral Tunes giving off the interpretation of a light that hits

Role Of Stakeholders In Tesco
Stakeholders are the people who matter to a system. Stakeholder power analysis is a tool which helps
understanding of how people affect policies and institutions, and how policies and institutions affect
people. It is particularly useful in identifying the winners and losers and in highlighting the challenges
that need to be faced to change behaviour, develop capabilities and tackle inequalities. Tesco are
committed to having a constructive dialogue with stakeholders to ensure that they understand what is
important to stake holder and allow their selves the opportunity to present their position. Engagement
helps them to identify new risks and opportunities to ensure that their long term strategy is sustainable.
In some instances, they find that working with stakeholders in partnership can help deliver shared
goals. They might not be able to satisfy all stakeholder concerns all the time but through engagement
they can do their best to balance competing demands. Tesco knows that customers need to be able to
trust their business and stakeholder will only trust them if they believe that they are engaging on an

CYANIDE
I. Overview

The purpose of the research is to determine chemical and physical properties of cyanide, to know its
applications, and its primary effects to the human body.
Introduction
The incident about the death of a customer and the owner himself who consumed milk teas from a
stall called ErgoCha has circulated the news and has spread all over the country. According to some
articles, the customers said that the milk tea from the said stall along Bustillos Street in Sampaloc,

It can be used in many applications such as making paper and extracting gold. However, it can be also
be fatal to the human body. Concretely, cyanide poisoning can bring abnormalities like seizures up to
cardiac arrests. The chemical compound is generally reactive, and can kill people in minutes. In this
research, the properties and effects will be discussed through definition and previous applications
involving the topic.
II. Presentation of Research
Definition
Cyanide is relatively every chemical compound that has monovalent combining cyano group. CN
group is made out of a carbon atom triple bonded to a nitrogen atom. This chemical compound is
monovalent since it is able to form only one covalent bond.
A cyanide molecule also has a strong tendency to bind with other atoms or compounds, yielding a
variety of different products. The type of atom or compound to which the cyanide molecule bonds
determines the properties and toxicity of the resulting product.
There are two kinds of cyanide: organic and inorganic. Organic cyanides are typically called nitriles.
Here, the CN group is linked by a covalent bond to a carbon containing group. Inorganic cyanide on
the other hand is a negatively charged polyatomic ion. These kinds of cyanide are considered as the
salts of hydrocyanic acid which are highly toxic.

Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born to age
backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is read aloud to
Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with peculiar curiosity and
subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the meaning of life and find his own
sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times before their unorthodox romance
reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin
discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to fall out of sync once again. Although its
final plot ends like any other love story, David Fincher s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is
arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive
digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was challenging to evaluate because never before
has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly with the delicate techniques of innovative film
making and traditional cinematic endings. One of the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence
of unique emotional paradoxes. The lead character Benjamin Button, actor Brad Pitt, faces many
unique emotional obstacles as he ages completely opposite of the world around him. When he is a
young boy, Button takes on the appearance of an eighty year old man in a wheelchair unable to walk.

Mercury Poisoning and 1990 S When Mercury Mining...
Intro: Mercury can be used in many different products such as barometers, florescent lamps, and
electrical switches and can be in the fish that we eat, whether the fish was caught in a local lake or
bought from the grocery store. Mercury is a naturally occurring element in the earth s crust that can be
moved around from volcanoes, coal burning plants, mining, and other natural or human actions.
Mercury is well documented as a toxic chemical that is atmospherically transported on a local,
regional, and global scale by cycling among air, land, and water (U.S. EPA, 2009). As early as the
1950 s we found that exposure to mercury can be extremely toxic, even deadly to animals and people.
Throughout this report I will describe the basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the vapor the mercury can be distilled and collected. During the 1850 s the California gold rush
started which brought with it many different methods to find the precious metal. One of these methods
was to use mercury to recover the gold deposits which were at different depths. Mercury was used to
enhance gold recovery in all the various types of mining operations; historical records indicate that
more mercury was used and lost at hydraulic mines than at other types of mines (Alpers, 2005). This
made mercury a necessity in mining gold and was used widely until the 1960 s. Most of the mercury
used in gold recovery in California was obtained from mercury deposits in the Coast Range on the
west side of California s Central Valley. Total mercury production in California between 1850 and
1981 was more than 220,000,000 lb (Alpers, 2005). By the late 1950 s the effects of mercury were
brought to light by scientists studying birds in Sweden. Besides realizing the effects of mercury on
birds and other animals, the possibility of mercury in humans was eye opening. The most infamous
case of severe mercury poisoning occurred at Minamata Bay, Japan, in 1952. The Chisson Chemical
Company dumped mercury in Minamata harbor, and the residents of local fishing villages ate mercury
contaminated fish from the harbor. Hundreds of people were affected and 68 people died (COTW,
2010). This event created some concern about mercury but nothing seemed to create

Comparing Story Openings of Bleak House by Charles...
At the opening of the story The Outsider , the writer Albert Camus places time in the wrong order.
This creates the impression that we are seeing into the character s thoughts rather than a story being
told to us. It works very effectively as the paragraphs are spontaneous and not in any form of order,
thus creating a mental picture in our heads of one or two day?s worth of events, as if we were
remembering them ourselves.
This, however, does not apply to Bleak house. Dickens does not use any form of time, but instead
decides to describe what is happening and makes the days, time, week or month irrelevant. It could be
any day, but Dickens does not want time to be the focal point of his story. This is effective because our
interest is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickens starts the second paragraph with ?fog everywhere?. The bluntness and the repetitiveness work
well together in painting a picture, making an impression in your mind that you won?t forget.
Camus, in ?The Outsider?, makes a conscious decision not to use figurative language in his story, once
again creating the illusion of spontaneous thought. When using everyday language or when thinking
we do not include metaphors, similes or onomatopoeias, for example, ?Today, I should not have
fought Tracy in the office like a tigress who hasn?t eaten in a week, sinking my long, sharp claws and
teeth into her flesh?. Or at least it is uncommon to anyway. Camus is very economical with his
language.
However, Dickens, in ?Bleak House?, uses the opposite, applying figurative and descriptive language
wherever he can, to create the strong mental impressionistic painting in our minds to which the
narrator uses as a backdrop. Dickens also makes very subtle jokes in his opening, for example ??with
flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snow flake ? gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the
death for the sun.? This is ironic as, because of the setting of the story (post Michaelmas) snow flakes
remind of happy Christmas time joy, but instead Dickens personifies them, as if they have feelings
about the surroundings, ?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? Dickens

The Importance Of Science
Science is an aspect of life and something which is identifiable in every student s lives as it is
continuously extended, refined and revised. In the text, Taking Science to School, there are five points
identifying why science should be taught science. The five reasons include 1. Science is a significant
part of human culture and represents the human thinking capacity, 2. It provides common experience
for development of language, logic, and problem solving skills to be used in the classroom, 3. A
demand for students to make it personal and community decisions about issues in which scientific
information plays a key role, 4. It will become a lifelong vocation, 5. The nation is reliant on the
technical and scientific abilities for citizens due to economic competitiveness and national needs
(Duschl et al, 2007, Page 34). The science curriculum should be focused and designed for students to
be able to understand and grasp the knowledge of the basic skills, which in turn will lead learning
efforts. Three dimensional learning is not only highlighting the facts of the content of science, but also
the doing of science (Willson et al, 2015, pg. 28). According to Seeing Students Learn Science (Beatty
et al, 2017) which include 1). practices through which scientist and engineers do their work; 2). the
crosscutting concepts that apply across science disciplines; and 3). the core ideas of the disciplines

Essay: Why do people conform and obey?
In psychological terms, conformity refers to an individual`s urge to follow the rules or behaviours of a
social group to which he belongs. Psychologists have put forward many theories to find out why
people conform and obey and have completed studies to confirm their ideas. In this essay I will
explain why people conform and obey.
An important experiment demonstrating under which circumstances people showed conformity was
done by a psychologist named Asch (1956). Asch`s experiments were made up to look like a vision

The Process of Criminal Profiling as it Pertains to Serial...
The process of criminal profiling as it pertains to serial killers is extremely interesting and much more
common than one would first think. This study deals with the research into the developmental and
psychological approaches to serial killers. In the process of studying these offenders, researchers have
discovered that crime scene manifestations of behavioral patterns enabled the investigators to discover
much about the offender (Jones The Process of Criminal Profiling When Applied To A Serial Killer 1).
Most crime scenes can tell long detailed stories, and with the right investigators following every detail
within that story, the positive chance of finding a conclusion to that story is not always there.
Investigators must always keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Profiling can piece together such a complete picture of the offender with traits of the offender s
including sex, age, occupation, disorders, upbringing, marital status, home, type of car they drive, etc
(Forensic Psychology 2).
Before the term serial killer was coined in the mid 1970 s, such murders were referred to as stranger
murders. The term stranger murders was used to differentiate the victims of serial killings from the
victims who were killed by people he or she knew, usually family members. The great killers of
history had been ones who had killed their wives, or possibly massacred their family members one by
one. For most people, the idea and the emotional components of intrafamilial violence could seem
somewhat understandable. At one time or another, most people processed the thought of raising an
angry hand at a child or spouse, and could even comprehend how, in a fit of rage, such an emotion
could escalate to murder. In contrast, the emotional components of a stranger murder seemed
unreasonable and incomprehensible to people (Ressler and Shachtman I Have Lived In The Monster
46).
There are three possible manifestations of offender behavior at a crime scene modus operandi,
personation or signature, and staging. Each of these manifestations plays an important role of
analyzing a crime scene in terms of human behavior (Douglas and Munn 1). Modus operandi is the
offender s actions while committing the crime, and the victimology.

Despite US efforts Vietnam was not totally successful against pro Communist. By 1963, faced with a

and the interests of Vietnam. The US was forced to increase their military involvement from
approximately 800 to 16,000 and provide additional resources and advisors, but they maintained their

you will want to be fighting off traps, animals, robots, each other. You will begin by being released
into the school where people will start gathering tools from a few locations. The first location you can
find these is the middle school commons. These places hold weapons, survival tools, food, water, and
medicine. Your countdown will begin in ten minutes so be prepared to run. Good luck to you all, Then
the screen went black and I started getting nervous. The lights in the room came on showing us a giant

the students are given insight into the song and its origin so that they may understand and appreciate
the culture that it represents. By giving a brief history into the musical aspect the culture and showing
how it benefits daily life, student will be encouraged to use music to express themselves. They should
also develop respect and appreciation for their own culture and musical genres.

Visio Analysis Adidas
Visio Analysis Adidas has five types of suppliers which are main suppliers, subcontractors, material
and other service providers, licensees and agents. Main suppliers supply products whether it is for
exports or domestics market consumption. Subcontractors are the factories that are subcontracted by
the suppliers to perform manufacturing operations which the main supplier are not able to do. Material
and other service providers might not have a direct relationship supply goods and services to main
suppliers. Licensees are independent companies which handle the design, production, and distribution
of specific products under the license of Adidas. In 2016, Adidas have worked with over 60 licensees
and the suppliers outsourced the products from 377 factories in 48 countries. Companies that are
independent who act as mediators to source product manufacturing, overlook the manufacturing
processes, then sell the final product to the Adidas. Every single stage in this logistic network is
connected, this helps the flow of products, funds, and information. If there is a lack of co ordination it
will lead to an increase in cost consequently, resulting into diminishing profitability which is not what
any business wants (Adidas group, 2017). SWOT Analysis Strengths: Adidas have an objective of
being the world s best sports brand which shows great ambitions. They have maintained a great image
therefore they have a lot of popularity and brand recognition. Adidas have a strong market

  • 2. The Dna Samples Of Gophers Tested Background The DNA samples of gophers tested are prime examples of evolution. There are several evolutionary processes that occurred with the species being study. Speciation occurred once a river causing their gene pools to diverge separated the gophers. This evolutionary occurrence represents allopathic speciation. Furthermore, once the species gene pool diverged the morphological species concept could be observed. The Geomys attwateri is slightly larger than the Geomys brevicep by 10 mm. During this evolutionary occurrence reproductive isolation may have occurred as well. Due to the species being isolated geologically, interbreeding no longer occurred separating the gene flow of each population. If these species were able to breed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Campbell) Although morphological observations help identify species they are not as accurate as testing the DNA of species with similar resemblance. The most accurate way to identify species is to extract their DNA and use bioinformatics. To decipher if a species by its morphology can be suggested as a hypothesis, but the results of its DNA will identify the species accurately. Tissues samples can be taken from the species in question, and the DNA can be extracted from tissue. Once the DNA is extracted it can be amplified. DNA can be amplified by the PCR procedure, in which specific gene regions can be used as barcodes to identify the species. These specific regions are known as Cytochrome oxidase 1 and Cytochrome B. Once these regions are purified and amplified, the samples can be sequenced, and the species can be identified. These procedures can solve many mysteries and questions. The DNA sequencing of different species can identify where it falls on the phylogenetic tree and where the population separated to produce a new species. These procedures help us understand the evolution of ancestors to the present and the connection between each species. Two separate species with multiple similarities can be observed, and bioinformatics can help answer that question. Purpose There are several experiments that must be conducted before a species can be identified. The tissue samples of these organisms must be obtained, and their tissues must ... • 3. A Brief History Of United States Mental Health Care Essay PRELIMINARY LITERATURE REVIEW A brief history of the United States mental health care The United States has never had an official federal centered approach for mental health care facilities, entrusting its responsibility to the states throughout the history. The earliest initiatives in this field took place in the 18th century, when Virginia built its first asylum and Pennsylvania Hospital reserved its basement to house individuals with mental disorders (Sundararaman, 2009). During the 19th century, other services were built, but their overall lack of quality was alarming. Even then, researchers and professionals in the mental health field attempted to implement the principles of the so called public health, focusing on prevention and early intervention, but the funds were in the hands of the local governments, which prevented significant advances in this direction. In 1946, President Truman signed the National Mental Health Act, allowing federal funds for education and research in mental health. By the time of the Great Depression and the World War II, asylums were in unsustainable conditions and traumatized veterans were returning home needing psychiatric attention. Also in a federal extent, Congress passed the Mental Health Study Act in 1955, establishing a commission to check policies and propose reforms in psychiatric treatments. Around that time the deinstitutionalization movement started changing the mental health picture. In 1963, the Mental Health Community Act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. God s Rescue Operation By Wright Essay God s Rescue Operation Wright, in his book Simply Christian: Why Christianity Exists, argues that God has no intention of abandoning this world , instead God has a glorious rescue operation planned, raising all His people to new bodily life to live in it . (Wright 58) God has begun this magnificent rescue operation utilizing Israel, the Church, and Jesus to complete his plan. Through these three, Wright believes that God intends for the kingdom of the world to become kingdom of God in which the beauty of this world will be enfolded in the beauty of God , only completing his rescue operation when the present world is rescued, healed, restored, and completed. (Wright 78) Israel, a nation with a history of insurgence, turmoil, and agony, is the start of God s rescue operation. Israel, in the Bible, serves as a representation of the entirety of all of God s children. The story of Israel itself has several common themes of going away and coming back home; of slavery and exodus; of exile and restoration and these themes relate directly to Christianity s own themes. (Wright 75) These leitmotifs are nothing new or desolate for the Jewish people. Israel is consistently in the news, going through trials or being restored from them. More recent examples of these would be the Holocaust, the restoration of the nation of Israel to their promised land, and the current issues between the Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem regarding the ownership of the Temple Mount. Lowman, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the completion of the course DSMN 500 D11 Discipleship Ministries by 10/27/201 INTRODUCTION Christ is the central person in Christian discipleship. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Christ is central to Christian discipleship because He is the teacher of His disciples. Through the Holy Spirit and Word of God, Jesus Christ calls His disciples to Him and then ... Jesus was hanged on a cross and crucified so that we would have the opportunity to be saved. He suffered for us, so we should take up our cross on a daily basis and follow Him. Christians must submit to Christ in order to be used by Christ. When a person submits to Christ, the Holy Spirit will empower him to be used of God. If a person does not submit to Christ, then the Holy Spirit will be quenched and the Christian will be disciplined by God. Disciples of Christ do not receive salvation because they obey God, but they obey God and submit to Christ because they have salvation (Rogers, Adrian, 2005). Jesus told the disciples that if they call him Lord they must do what he commands (Matthew 7:22). To be a disciple of Christ, we must submit to Jesus and trust that He is our Lord and Savior. We must have faith in Him and look to Him as our guide. Disciples of Christ should obey Jesus because God is not a man, but a sovereign God who has every right to command His disciples. Christ is not just a sovereign God, but also a saving God who suffered on a cross so that humans could receive salvation. Disciples of Christ who are saved by grace are not their own, but bought with a price that Jesus paid on the cross. • 7. Freewill Essay Freewill Many have wondered whether free will exists or not. Some argue yes, some argue no. For now, I will say no. I will begin my argument with a scenario. Say a man has an enemy that he hates very strongly. One day this guy makes a conscious decision to kill his enemy. He calculates every move he needs to make to kill his enemy and succeeds in doing so. Clearly, this man is guilty of murder. The question is, should blame fall on this man for killing another? Currently, all societies in the world are built around some moral basis that holds a person responsible for their actions. A determinist, however, would disagree and say that people are not free, and therefore are not at fault for their actions. Human acts are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are certain variables, like baking a cake, which are accounted for such as being late, the rush it gives, or just because the wind feels good. Whatever the case may be, the act is caused. In the eyes of a determinist, caused acts have only one option. If there is only one option, then there is no freedom. So, the question arises, are all acts caused? To answer this question we must first look at the human brain and mind. Historically, when we talk about human acts we seem to be able to predict why a human acted the way they did. For example, while watching something like Montel, the host attempts to reason why a person s problem occurred. The audience then makes suggestions on how to remedy the situation. If the topic is about relationships, then the show leads to questions about relationships and why they occur. Just about every time a guest asks a question about an abusive boyfriend, the host asks what their family life was like. The overwhelming response is that people who enter into abusive relationships had abusive families. If we relate this back to the human brain and say an abusive family is a variable for an abusive boyfriend, we find that this act can be predicted. The human mind/brain appears to be broken into two parts. The first we will call instinct. The human instinct consists of all things that are embedded in the human mind for survival, like the need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ezekiel s Vision And Prophetic Declaration Of A New Temple Introduction Ezekiel s vision and prophetic declaration of a new temple is among the most debatable text within the Old Testament. In the twenty fifth year of Ezekiel s exile, God instructed him to look and listen carefully by paying close attention to everything that he was shown. Not only was he supposed to see, hear and grasp, he also had to provide this information to Israel (Ez 40:4) . The vision was to provide hope, a spiritual renewal and a future depiction of Israel s restoration. • 10. Unruly Americans And The Origins Of The Constitution 1. Purpose of Book The main purpose behind the book Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution, by Woody Holton is to demonstrate the authors view on the true intent of the Framers when writing the Constitution. Although at first glance the book may seem to uphold the idea that the framers wrote the Constitution in order to protect civil liberties, Holton has a different opinion. To avoid a one sided book, the author not only looks at the framers intent, but the struggles facing the American people. This book emphasizes the alternative interpretations offered by Americans on the origins of the Constitution. Holton s purpose with this book was to show that the framers interests involved making America more attractive to investors. In order to do so, they purposefully made the government less democratic with the writing of the Constitution. However, with the addition of the Bill of Rights, one could argue the Framers had at least a slight concern for the American people and their civil liberties. In offering alternative interpretations of the origins of the Constitution, the author accomplishes his secondary purpose, to make the reader challenge what they know about the framing of the Constitution. Holton details the rebellion of the Unruly Americans against the state and national governments, using Adonijah Mathews as an ultimate example of the common man. Mathews views are presented in order to contrast the views of James Madison, whom it seems the author ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before you try to find how this section of Atavism by John Myers O Hara, relates to the theme of The Call of the Wild, you must understand the words used. Nomadic means moving around and not staying in one place. O Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it should say that your nomadic longings are leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you stay in one place for a long time, your instincts (old longings from ancestors) to move from place to place (to be nomadic) are going to flare up. Chafing means to cause annoyance. By using the phrase Chafing at custom s chain O Hara means that you are being annoyed by traditional ways. Custom s chain refers to these traditional ways. Therefore the feelings to want to become nomadic are clashing with the feelings of following tradition s ways. Brumal means wintry. O Hara is using this as a metaphor with the direct meaning being waking up from winter hibernation, but the deeper meaning is the realization or awakening of the need to break away from traditional ways. Ferine means wild and strain in this case means type. When O Hara uses ferine as an adjective to describe strain, he is referring to the wild side we each have due to our natural instincts. People have fought for hundreds of years to make birth control available to all women. Birth control was banned at point in the United Sates. According to the authors at Wikipedia.org, Contraception was not restricted by the law in the United States throughout most of the 19th century, but in the 1870s a social purity movement grew in strength, aimed at outlawing vice in general, and prostitution and obscenity in particular. Composed primarily of Protestant moral reformers and middle class women, the Victorian era campaign also attacked contraception, which was viewed as an immoral practice that promoted prostitution and venereal disease. The earliest forms of birth control was reported around 3000 B.C. Condoms were made from fish bladders, linen sheaths, and even animal intestines. In the 1500 s, the first spermicides, chemicals that kill sperm, were used to kill spermatozoa. The first condoms were made from linen cloth sheaths and soaked in chemical solution and dried before using. In 1838, condoms and diaphragms were made from vulcanized rubber. A diaphragm is a shallow, bendable cup that you put inside your vagina. It covers your cervix during sex to prevent pregnancy. In a survey in1998 conducted by the New York s American Museum of Natural nearly of 70% of the 400 biologists interested believed that the Earth is currently in the early stages of a human caused mass extinction, known as the Holocene extinction. In that survey, the same proportion of respondents agreed with the prediction that up to 20% of all living populations could become extinct within 30 years (by 2028). Probably these predictions are too catastrophic and is quite impossible to claim the mass extinction in a short term, but these are clear advises of how much deep and negative is the interference of the Humans in the environment and in the life of the other cohabitants of this planet. However; this type of advanced camera was nonexistent during the renaissance when photographers were using camera obscuras to project inverted images of the things that were outside the of the obscura. It wasn t until the 19th century that the development of the chemical needed to capture an actual image became available. Even though people were now able to photograph, the lengthy process that it took to register a single image made photography nearly impossible. For instance, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce took more than 6 hours to capture the first photographs ever taken. During the 19th century, there were several technological improvements that made photography a more convenient task. Some of these improvements included the daguerreotype process invented in 1839 by photographer Louis Daguerre. This invention allowed photographers to capture images with shorter exposure to light thus, creating longer lasting photographs. • 31. Analysis Of 320 By Emily Dickinson 320 Emily Dickinson wrote 320 in a form in a form that is not traditional. It is written in a closed sense given it is written quatrains that frequently rhyme, but it does not fall into a traditional pattern. Dickinson generally follows the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic tetrameter and the second and fourth lines in iambic trimeter. Other times, she uses Trochees in random times making the form sound choppy. For example, in the first stanza she uses the trochee certain and winter . Both of these create a rough sentence. The poem goes into pause at many times throughout the poem, thus bringing out the dissatisfaction and difficult time the poem is describing. There is no way to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was somebody parallel or close to herself; however, in 320 there are no signs of if it is Dickinson or one of her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a group, as the only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it could be a small group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and their view of God. Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the booming sounds of large cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds a negative connotation to these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson uses the metaphor of a slant of light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the slant of light opens, it is essentially opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the body; however, the heartbreak from the pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her soul. She follows this theme through the entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light / Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a small light shining through on a white surface. This tone quickly changes when it is followed by That oppresses, like the Heft / Of Cathedral Tunes giving off the interpretation of a light that hits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Concretely, cyanide poisoning can bring abnormalities like seizures up to cardiac arrests. The chemical compound is generally reactive, and can kill people in minutes. In this research, the properties and effects will be discussed through definition and previous applications involving the topic. II. Presentation of Research Definition Cyanide is relatively every chemical compound that has monovalent combining cyano group. CN group is made out of a carbon atom triple bonded to a nitrogen atom. This chemical compound is monovalent since it is able to form only one covalent bond. A cyanide molecule also has a strong tendency to bind with other atoms or compounds, yielding a variety of different products. The type of atom or compound to which the cyanide molecule bonds determines the properties and toxicity of the resulting product. There are two kinds of cyanide: organic and inorganic. Organic cyanides are typically called nitriles. Here, the CN group is linked by a covalent bond to a carbon containing group. Inorganic cyanide on the other hand is a negatively charged polyatomic ion. These kinds of cyanide are considered as the salts of hydrocyanic acid which are highly toxic. Manifestations and ... • 35. Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born to age backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is read aloud to Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with peculiar curiosity and subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the meaning of life and find his own sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times before their unorthodox romance reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to fall out of sync once again. Although its final plot ends like any other love story, David Fincher s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was challenging to evaluate because never before has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly with the delicate techniques of innovative film making and traditional cinematic endings. One of the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence of unique emotional paradoxes. The lead character Benjamin Button, actor Brad Pitt, faces many unique emotional obstacles as he ages completely opposite of the world around him. When he is a young boy, Button takes on the appearance of an eighty year old man in a wheelchair unable to walk. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Mercury Poisoning and 1990 S When Mercury Mining... Intro: Mercury can be used in many different products such as barometers, florescent lamps, and electrical switches and can be in the fish that we eat, whether the fish was caught in a local lake or bought from the grocery store. Mercury is a naturally occurring element in the earth s crust that can be moved around from volcanoes, coal burning plants, mining, and other natural or human actions. Mercury is well documented as a toxic chemical that is atmospherically transported on a local, regional, and global scale by cycling among air, land, and water (U.S. EPA, 2009). As early as the 1950 s we found that exposure to mercury can be extremely toxic, even deadly to animals and people. Throughout this report I will describe the basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the vapor the mercury can be distilled and collected. During the 1850 s the California gold rush started which brought with it many different methods to find the precious metal. One of these methods was to use mercury to recover the gold deposits which were at different depths. Mercury was used to enhance gold recovery in all the various types of mining operations; historical records indicate that more mercury was used and lost at hydraulic mines than at other types of mines (Alpers, 2005). This made mercury a necessity in mining gold and was used widely until the 1960 s. Most of the mercury used in gold recovery in California was obtained from mercury deposits in the Coast Range on the west side of California s Central Valley. Total mercury production in California between 1850 and 1981 was more than 220,000,000 lb (Alpers, 2005). By the late 1950 s the effects of mercury were brought to light by scientists studying birds in Sweden. Besides realizing the effects of mercury on birds and other animals, the possibility of mercury in humans was eye opening. The most infamous case of severe mercury poisoning occurred at Minamata Bay, Japan, in 1952. The Chisson Chemical Company dumped mercury in Minamata harbor, and the residents of local fishing villages ate mercury contaminated fish from the harbor. Hundreds of people were affected and 68 people died (COTW, 2010). This event created some concern about mercury but nothing seemed to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Comparing Story Openings of Bleak House by Charles... At the opening of the story The Outsider , the writer Albert Camus places time in the wrong order. This creates the impression that we are seeing into the character s thoughts rather than a story being told to us. It works very effectively as the paragraphs are spontaneous and not in any form of order, thus creating a mental picture in our heads of one or two day?s worth of events, as if we were remembering them ourselves. This, however, does not apply to Bleak house. Dickens does not use any form of time, but instead decides to describe what is happening and makes the days, time, week or month irrelevant. It could be any day, but Dickens does not want time to be the focal point of his story. This is effective because our interest is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickens starts the second paragraph with ?fog everywhere?. The bluntness and the repetitiveness work well together in painting a picture, making an impression in your mind that you won?t forget. Camus, in ?The Outsider?, makes a conscious decision not to use figurative language in his story, once again creating the illusion of spontaneous thought. When using everyday language or when thinking we do not include metaphors, similes or onomatopoeias, for example, ?Today, I should not have fought Tracy in the office like a tigress who hasn?t eaten in a week, sinking my long, sharp claws and teeth into her flesh?. Or at least it is uncommon to anyway. Camus is very economical with his language. However, Dickens, in ?Bleak House?, uses the opposite, applying figurative and descriptive language wherever he can, to create the strong mental impressionistic painting in our minds to which the narrator uses as a backdrop. Dickens also makes very subtle jokes in his opening, for example ??with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snow flake ? gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death for the sun.? This is ironic as, because of the setting of the story (post Michaelmas) snow flakes remind of happy Christmas time joy, but instead Dickens personifies them, as if they have feelings about the surroundings, ?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? The process of criminal profiling as it pertains to serial killers is extremely interesting and much more common than one would first think. This study deals with the research into the developmental and psychological approaches to serial killers. In the process of studying these offenders, researchers have discovered that crime scene manifestations of behavioral patterns enabled the investigators to discover much about the offender (Jones The Process of Criminal Profiling When Applied To A Serial Killer 1). Profiling can piece together such a complete picture of the offender with traits of the offender s including sex, age, occupation, disorders, upbringing, marital status, home, type of car they drive, etc (Forensic Psychology 2). Before the term serial killer was coined in the mid 1970 s, such murders were referred to as stranger murders. The term stranger murders was used to differentiate the victims of serial killings from the victims who were killed by people he or she knew, usually family members. The great killers of history had been ones who had killed their wives, or possibly massacred their family members one by one. For most people, the idea and the emotional components of intrafamilial violence could seem somewhat understandable. At one time or another, most people processed the thought of raising an angry hand at a child or spouse, and could even comprehend how, in a fit of rage, such an emotion could escalate to murder. In contrast, the emotional components of a stranger murder seemed unreasonable and incomprehensible to people (Ressler and Shachtman I Have Lived In The Monster 46). There are three possible manifestations of offender behavior at a crime scene modus operandi, personation or signature, and staging. Each of these manifestations plays an important role of analyzing a crime scene in terms of human behavior (Douglas and Munn 1). Modus operandi is the offender s actions while committing the crime, and the victimology. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
