Electronic Industry In The Us Essay
American corporations have found investing in manufacturing overseas to be very economical. The
US has been offshoring manufacturing excessively for the last 20 plus years. Consequently, the United
States has a dilemma: our country imports more goods than it exports, the U.S. is developing a serious
skills gap, and jobs that would boost the domestic economy are being shipped overseas. The truth is
not too many goods are actually Made in the USA . The United States as a whole is extremely
advanced, innovative, and resourceful. The economy has suffered a Great Depression and a few
recessions; however, we always seem to find our way back to the top and flourish. In the current
aftermath of the recent Great Recession, it is time to review the state of manufacturing in The United
States of America and being to repair our commitment to developing industrial might and industrial ...

Twenty years later, when technology is so advanced that it dies within a year and fulfilled with the
next best thing, it would be particularly challenging to alter our practices today and obtain the skills
required to keep up with that sort of trend. Further, the United States would have to start from scratch,
launching massive training programs that offered advanced technology courses. Moving this type of
technology in house and training courses would be expensive. Analyzing the costs so clearly
condemns the idea in the short term at least. Luckily the long term is available for righting the

Columbus Day Should No Longer Be A National Holiday
John Oliver is correct when he asserts that Columbus Day should no longer be a national holiday.
Columbus Day is the day we celebrate when Christopher Columbus landed in the New World. I
believe we should not celebrate Columbus Day because I m sure we are celebrating a murder and the
person supported in owning or controlling of a person. During that time of landing in the New World,
he went on a killing spree of humans and of in slaving the Native Americans.
Columbus Day shouldn t be a holiday anymore because all the Indians he enslaved and killed during
his voyage. Columbus had made a promise to bring back slaves, gold, copper, and girls to be used for
sex. According to A Patriot s History ... about 56 million people were killed ... Show more content on

to this the cultures from different continents have been changed because of Columbus. We can t forget
though that he brought theses diseases throughout the continents he traveled to. Christopher Columbus
Biography explains The exchange also brought new diseases to both hemispheres, though the effects
were greatest in the Americans. Smallpox from the Old World decimated millions of the Native
American population The diseases were new to both the Europeans and the Americans because it was
the first time they had experienced this type of diseases. It was very new to both of them at the time,
so they didn t know how to handle it or let alone cure it so they suffered. The Americans suffered the
most from these diseases. In effect of the Americans suffering from these diseases, the Europeans
ended up out numbering them in a very big margin. In addition, the exchange benefited the Europeans

pretty much gone plus the Native Americans disappeared too. All this happened because he made
promises he couldn t keep like bringing home a certain amount gold so instead, he brought to trade

Saudi Aramco Essays
Saudi Aramco
The largest world supplier oil company is Saudi Aramco. It is the most profitable company on the
earth. Since it is the most powerful oil company, it has a great impact on the world economy. As a
result, a strong international relationship was built with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition, the
strong developing of international relationship with other industrial countries resulted in massive
contributions to the politics, economy, and many different aspects. In 1933, Saudi government
bestowed oil concession to California Arabian Standard Oil Company (Chevron). The main factor for
this grant was to explore the oil in the eastern region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. After

Therefore, the Arab Peninsula was not like other Arab countries which were colonized. Arab Peninsula
which eventually became Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remained relinquished with no boundaries. After
King Abdul Aziz who was supported by Great Britain united Arabs and defeated the hostiles in quarter
of century of severe wars began to search for investments in order to reinforce his economy. He was
urging British Petroleum to explore the oil in Saudi Arabia while the British Petroleum company was
negotiating with him not for interest but for preventing other companies to enter this area. However, a
former British official who had left his service and converted to Islam became a loyal adviser for King
Abdul Aziz, John Philby, and so he did a great job bringing foreign companies to the Kingdom. In
fact, he was the one who suggested opening a competition among the oil companies. Taking that
suggestion, King Abdul Aziz signed a sixty years oil concession agreement with Chevron in 1933
covering the whole eastern region of Saudi Arabia. Faced with such difficulties exploring job,
Chevron had to sell 50% of the concession to Texaco. Surprisingly, that area became the richest oil

Expressionism
Overview: Expressionism is an extremely stylized mode of screen reality in which filmmakers use
visual distortion to suggest emotional, social, or psychological disturbances or abnormalities. The
distortions may be subtle, but often emphasize strange or bizarrely poetic artistic designs. The camera
work (lighting, angles, lenses, etc.) often enhances the de centering of the screen world.
Classic German Expressionism: Expressionism in its purest form is found in 1920 s German cinema,
in which case it was overtly opposed to realism, emphasizing elaborate distortions in the mise en
scene.
Contemporary Expressionism: Most easily found in the films of Alfred Hitchcock (Psycho, e.g.).
Hitchcock employs low angled shots, close ups and other camera tricks in order to accent the viewers
perception of the subject and the overarching themes. Other contemporary expressionists may include
Spike Lee (Crooklyn) and Tim Burton (any film of his).
Fantasy and the Fantastic
Overview: Though many filmmakers my employ expressionistic techniques in what we would
consider an essentially realistic film, in films which employ a fantasy or fantastic mode, settings and
subjects, characters, and narrative time are often displaced from the viewer s own realm into other
realms, sometimes futuristic ones, whose normal laws of time and space may not apply. Characters
might have superpowers,

The Rise Of Asymmetric Warfare
Question: Analyze the rise of asymmetric warfare. Provide illustrations and assess how it has reshaped
behaviors and outcomes.
The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to an irregular
conflict that is distinct by the relative dissimilarity between opponents in battle. The asymmetry is
derived from the character of warfare and dictated by the difference in relational power amid warring
sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and resources, goals
and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents in almost all
conflicts has varied in many tactical, strategic and operational levels.
A popular perception of today claims that there has been a relatively recent rise in asymmetric
warfare, or conventional irregular warfare that has transformed war from a customary and symmetric
exercise into an irregular, avant garde, asymmetric experience. This perception is inherently at the
foundation of the question in which this essay attempts to respond. In contrast with this perspective,
the main argument of this essay is that asymmetric warfare, although definitely a characteristic of the
times is not a new genus of warfare that has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct revolution in
military affairs. Furthermore, asymmetric warfare cannot be used as a description to describe
deviation from Western norms in this case conflict. Rather, asymmetric warfare

And Then There None
The Events on Soldier Island: Committed by Justice Wargrave In And Then There None, a novel
written by Agatha Christie, 10 people are found dead on Soldier island. All ten victims are somehow
responsible for a murder in their past and all were trapped on soldier island until their demise. This
occurrence is perplexing as a single murderer could not be pinpointed by detectives. The culprit is
Lawrence Wargrave, a retired justice whose occupation can be seen as suspicious. His
characterization, and opportunity to commit the crimes should also be under question. Wargraves job
as a justice is suspicious due to clues in And Then There None. In the novel we are given hints and
nudges to the judicial system through a voice playing on a gramophone, and some suspiciously
organized discussions. During dinner the occupants of Soldier island are interrupted by a mysterious
voice that accuses every character of a murder. This voice ends with Prisoners at the bar, have you
anything to say in your defence? (43) This is a clear indication that Wargrave is the murderer as he is
the only one with experience sentencing prisoners to receive justice. Wargrave can be seen heading

dies. All of Wargraves bland reactions seem to suggest that he was expecting each event to

The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Summary
The following essay will lay out a literary analysis of the plot, major characters and the major themes,
of the story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. The story takes place in an old mid
19th century mining town called Angels Camp, the narrator claims to go there to find a man by the
name of Simon Wheeler. Like any mining town in the West, it was populated primarily by men, many
of them looking for their fortune. As something of a frontier town, it would probably seem to be full of
loud, uncouth, and uneducated people compared to the more genteel East. The narrator, a mannered
Easterner, describes his visit to a mining camp where, on behalf of a friend, he is searching for one
Leonidas W. Smiley. He stops in an old tavern, where he meets goodnatured, garrulous old Simon
Wheeler, who cannot recall a Leonidas Smiley, but does remember a Jim Smiley who lived in the
camp around 1849 or 1850. Without prompting, Wheeler launches into an extended narrative about the
gambler Smiley and his exploits. Smiley, he says, was uncommon lucky, and had a reputation for ...

Traditional Families In The 1800s
Families in History
There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several
centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within
a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The
biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth
century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included
as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a
husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging
ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent
homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Childhood was not considered a special time for development but rather a hurdle on the way to
adulthood. The goal was to get children speaking, reading, reasoning, and contributing to their family
s economic well being as quickly as possible. (Mintz 50) Many kids as young as six were working
outside of the home at the time. A cultural revolution began in the eighteenth century when many
middle class parents began to relish in their children s innocence and saw this a time to nurture mold
their children. As this form of parenting became the norm many parents began to have less children by
using birth control, thus giving the fewer children they had more of their attention. As time progressed
kids spent more time going to school rather than to work. Within the last 3 centuries Societal views
about methods of Child rearing, the nature of children s play, the ideal duration of schooling, the
participation of young people in work, and the demarcation points between childhood, adolescence,
and adulthood have shifted significantly. (Mintz

Cause And Effect Of Alcohol Abuse
Effects of Alcohol Abuse 15.1 million adults aged 18 and over suffer from alcohol abuse in the United
States. Alcohol abuse is the harmful use of alcohol, despite its negative consequences on the
individual, such as interfering with daily activities. Although some studies show that moderate alcohol
usage can benefit one s health, it is commonly agreed that the negatives heavily outweigh the
positives. About ten percent of children in the United States lives with a parent who abuses alcohol
and about 88,000 people die yearly from alcohol poisoning in the United States. Therefore, alcohol
abuse may have impacts on one s family life and their physiological state. To begin, alcohol abuse
may have an effect on one s family life. Children, growing up around a parent who abuses alcohol
may lead a life of both psychological and emotional problems, and these children may also be
vulnerable to alcohol related physical and/or verbal abuse. Alcoholic parents may also influence their
kids to grow up with the same habits, as children who have at least one alcoholic parent are about 3 4
times likely to abuse alcohol when they re older, compared to children that do not. In addition, having
alcoholic parents may influence a student s academics. In one study, 41% of addicted parents reported
that at least one of their children repeated a grade in school, 19% were involved in truancy, and 30%
had been suspended from school (cite). Students who have alcoholic parents are reported to have

Research Paper On Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying
its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she
shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true
meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea but uses a less
complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the real meaning of
the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the
very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different
perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as
you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a
rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a
haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The
message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still
stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains
the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough.
Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted
and used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are
there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there from
the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value
over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay .
Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key theme, hat not only lies
in the word choice but in the poem, itself. The start of spring is when all the new flowers bloom and
the leaves on trees become greener. The start of something new and beautiful is the

New Leg Commercial
Do You Need a New Leg?
The purpose of advertisement is to promote a product or service to targeted consumers with the
purpose of increasing awareness and ultimately profit for a company. Successful advertisement leads
to creating a customer base, expanding the life of a product and increasing sales. JWT, the advertising
agency that created this ad, uses visual elements to advertise the product to the consumer using
realistic backgrounds. The visual ad uses the setting of a crowded soccer game where a player is
injured and needs immediate relief to continue in playing in the soccer game. By using a
pharmaceutical product, specifically BenGay, the player can recover and continue the game as if he
was never injured.
As previously mentioned, the setting is a crowded soccer game at night. There are players standing on
the field paused because of the injury the player has unexpectedly received. A referee and teammate

Advantages and Disadvantages of Keyboards Versus Pencils...
Technology is slowly taking over the world. It affects many things, one of them being handwriting.
Typing has some advantages over handwriting, but typing also has some disadvantages. Cursive is
outdated, and typing is more efficient than handwriting in general. However, handwriting has some
benefits over typing. Cursive was a lot more prominent in the past then it is today. According to
Remington Korper, cursive was taught before printing. This made it the main form of writing for
students. Some people that had excellent cursive could take it as a job. The first type of cursive was
Spencerian. This was a very time consuming, tiring writing. The next type was Palmer s Method. This
was faster and easier than Spencerian writing. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes note taking easier (Pros and Cons). With faster note taking and the ability to do
assignments faster, a lot of time in class could be saved which allows for more information to be

lost, especially if important files are routinely backed up (Pros and Cons). Notes and assignments are
harder to lose if typed and saved on a computer compared to writing on a piece of paper. This makes
sure you are able to study, possibly leading to higher grades. Even though typing has many advantages
over cursive, typing also has some disadvantages. For one, laptops or computers can cost upwards of
$300. This is very expensive compared to paper and pencils, which only cost a couple dollars. Laptops
and computers are also very easily broken. The act of handwriting helps students (and adults) retain
information more effectively than when keyboarding (Handwriting Debate) Handwriting helps with

in lower test scores. Digital devices may be great learning tools, but they also offer a number of

Climate Change Reflection
After watching the move How To Let Go and Love All The Things Climate Can t Change, my
perception of our world completely changed. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh
Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to
other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to
twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are
already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don t connect with facts, people
connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with
sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work
as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am
discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director s job is to be personable. People
will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their
organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be
considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability
advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also
generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people
stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if
not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can t change, I believe that the most
important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no.
But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn t play
out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants
to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use
getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood

Argumentative Essay On Processed Foods
Most Americans love the low cost, prepackaged, great tasting food that is convenient to buy and
prepare. These prepackaged or processed foods are normally made to be faster, cheaper and usually
taste great but they are loaded with bizarre, unpronounceable chemicals that, if you saw them in their
pre processed state, you would never consider putting in your mouth. Emulsifiers, preservatives,
colorants, stabilizers, artificial sweeteners, texturizers and even bleach can be found in most processed
foods. On average, Americans spend 90% of their food budget on these types of foods which is found
to contribute to the leading causes of obesity, auto immune disease, diabetes and even cancer.
Everywhere you look there is a rising concern for health from these added ingredients. Let s take a
look at tomatoes, Fresh tomatoes are considered to be very good for you and aid to help prevent
cancer, the canned ones not so much. Canned processed foods are a concern because of the material
the can is made of. The lining of almost all canned foods contain a chemical called BPA. Studies show
that BPA affects the way genes work inside the brain. Tomatoes are exceptionally dangerous due to the
high acidic level. The acid reacts to the BPA making the chemical transfer into the tomatoes instead of
staying in the lining of the can. This is just one example and one type of processed canned foods, there
are thousands more. America is the most over fed, under nourished country

Peter The Great Of The Russian Revolution
When one thinks of Russian culture, it generally is associated with the keeping of tradition. It is not a
country that evokes much change from century to century but when taking a closer look into the
country, this is a rather bias view compared to just how much the country has constantly been
evolving. The biggest push of cultural change happened during the reign of Peter the Great. Peter
came to power in 1682, a time when the Russian court was unreliable to one true leading family until
Peter s ruling when that changed. This was a man who saw that his country needed to break from the
tradition and emerge into a western society. This was not an easy change considering the remote
location that Russia had to Europe and the deep traditional ways of the people. With this in mind, he
created many changes that Russia was to undergo to become this powerhouse country that Peter
envisioned for his people. With so much change to happen, the movement was a slow process but with
Peter s motivation, nothing seemed to stop the man. Peter the Great s efforts to Westernize Russia
unified Russia through his military ambitions, his cultural ambitions and his finally the creation of his
city, St. Petersburg. All of these are major developments created a new version of Russia that has
created the country that it is today. Peter the Great was a man with strong desire to build a military and
navy presence that Russia had not really had previous to his ruling. With being brought up surrounded

s projection of a perfectly normal lifestyle or the ideal American family portrayal. This film is about
how everything is not as it seems behind closed doors. As the storyline progresses the film adheres to
multiple genre codes and conventions to deepen the story arc, this is known as Genre Hybridity as it
refers to two or more established genre s through storyline, etc. (REF TO TEXTBOOK) American
Beauty is a hybrid genre text because it conforms to more than one genre this being romance, satire
and drama through formal elements such as narrative and screen aesthetic. This can also be further
proved by examples of single/hybrid genre texts like The Notebook (2004, Nick Cassavetes), Fight
Club (1999, David Fincher) and Bold and the Beautiful (1987 , William J Bell).
http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/1213628.pdf?acceptTC=true Many major box office hits in today s day
an age contain comedy, witty one liner s, major plot twists but mostly romance. The romance genre
has become a booming success in the film industry as of late 2000 s. (REF) The genre is difficult to
define but can be described as the development of love between characters as a main narrative (REF).
This can be shown by the massive success of the iconic film, The Notebook grossing in at $115, 603,
229 worldwide. (REF) The film is set around two characters falling in love, therefore falling under the
romance genre. One of the conventions of a romance film is forbidden love, this is shown throughout
the Notebook between the two main protagonists and is also shown in the movie American Beauty. In
American Beauty the protagonist, Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) becomes infatuated with his
daughter s best friend, Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari) this creates tension between the characters as
Angela continuously entices Mr. Burnham whilst knowing they can never be together due to the age
gap and because of his daughter, it is more of an unnatainable lust, therefore conforming to the
forbidden love narrative contained within most romantic films. Another aspect of the romance genre is
tragedy. Throughout Shakespeare s works all love ends in heartache, there are

The Islamic Religion Of Islam
The Islamic religion according to the Quran, is supposed to be a nonviolent religion that promotes
peace to others and especially people of there own religion. The way that the Islamic religion is now is
much different than it was in the past based on the Quran. During the times we studied in class, the
Muslims were very obeying of their ruler and their religion. An example of proper loyalty shown by
the Muslims is during the crusades. In today s society, people continue to break the rules of the Quran
through terrorism. Terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and Isis are two examples of Islamic terrorist
organizations. Since the time we studied in class, the Islamic religion has turned to a much more
violent religion The Quran is the most sacred document to the Islamic people and basically tells them
the way that they need to live. The Quran forces Islamic people to obey the Five Pillars of Faith .
These pillars include declaring the creed, which is There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his
Prophet. They also have to pray five times a day facing the sacred city of Mecca, give alms to the poor
in the community, fast each day during the month of Ramadan (the ninth month of the year), and make
a hajj, which is a pilgrimage to Mecca once in their lifetime (Spodek 348). The Quran also directly
states [2:190] fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits,
surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits , This means that you may

Gun Control and Self Protection Essay
Gun control is probably one of the most debatable concerns in the constitution. There are many
scenarios in which you can see the good in pro gun control and also other scenarios where con gun
control is good. Gun control should not be a plan the U.S government should take because there are
many cases in which a firearm will determine you from death or life. And the right to carry a firearm
is like the right to protect our freedom, and to self defend ourselves. Firearms are used defensively
roughly 2.5 million times per year, more than four times as many as criminal uses. This amounts to
2,575 lives protected for every life lost to a gun. (SAF) The people that are most concerned by this
issue are those that have lost someone close to them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firearms are your defense from criminals. If we are not to have our 2nd amendment our crime rates
will increase because criminals will invade houses more freely because they know that that citizen
doesn t have a firearm or another words protection .Also new types of crimes will probably be created
such as home invasion robberies or car hackings. Not only that but a rise in intimidation where
criminals will intimidate people to give up their valuables so they can avoid being injured by the
criminal. Also if we are not to have firearms the 5,285 children will be alive but our nation will be
enduring more violence then it already is enduring. If we are to keep our 2nd amendment we will have
better chances of surviving in a situation in which we are attacked or aggravated by a criminal. If we
are to call 9 1 1 when we are getting aggravated the police would take longer than if we had a firearm
and protected ourselves. The fastest growing group of gun owners is women. (SAF) This is probably
because 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That s more than 600
women every day. These were only the cases that were reported to the police. (NOW) Even though
these statistics are hard to believe there is still a women that thinks, ...I don t believe gun owners have
right. (Brady) Without guns there would probably be double rape cases then what there is now. Also a
firearm is usually only given to citizens that are responsible because that is were

The Evolution Of Young Earth Creationism
Young earth creationism is what most people mean when referring to creationism. This is primarily
due to the fact that the creationists most visible in the public eye during the creation evolution debate
were most likely to hold young earth creationist views. Additionally, the terms recent earth or recent
creation have been used to refer to this same position. These terms clearly define their position as one
in which the creation of the world occurred somewhat recently, that is, the world is young. However, it
obviously doesn t provide us with much information beyond that. To begin with, how young is the
world? In order to help answer this and other questions concerning young earth creationism, biologist

The next point Nelson and Reynolds make is one of disagreement between young earth and
progressive creationists. Concerning the impact of the curse in Genesis 3, young earth creationists
typically view this point to be the entrance of all death and suffering to the world. Progressive
creationists, however, consider there to be a long period of time between the creation of the world and
the introduction of sin into the world. Because of this length of time, progressive creationists consider
animal death and suffering to have occurred long before the first humans sinned. The question of
animal death and suffering prior to the fall of mankind is one that will be discussed in further detail
when looking at the old earth positions
According to Nelson and Reynolds, the strongest point of contention between young earth and
progressive creationists is that of the flood. Young earth creationists generally view the account of the
flood as actually having occurred. Other positions, however, progressive included, consider it a
metaphor, or myth which has theological implications, but does not describe any actual historical
events.

Slavery as a Positive Good
Slavery as a Positive Good Question
When referring to the days of slavery, it is often assumed that the south was the sole force behind its
continuance. However there were many factors which lead southerners as well as some in the north to
quietly accept slavery as a good thing. John Calhoun declared in 1837 Many in the South once
believed that [slavery] was a moral and political evil...That folly and delusion are gone; we see it now
in its true light, and regard it as the most safe and stable basis for free institutions in the world (p.
345). This statement was justified by various reasons. There was the fundamental belief that Africans
were inferior to their white counterparts. Many saw the slave population as a labor force that ... Show

Take for example a woman whose role is to care for her master s children. She maybe well loved by
her charges but as they grow they will come to see her as less than a human being. That won t
necessarily keep them from caring about her, they will simply do so in the way they would love a cat
or dog. Pro slavery advocates were also quick to point out that the great empires of history were based
on slave labor. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Persians and so forth were mighty civilizations that
enslaved captives of war as well as criminals. It is possible to assume that since these societies were
able to focus of innovation and thinking because of their slave work force that the south too would
flourish intellectually. Whether or not this is true is debatable. Yes there were several southern
inventors and writers of the time but to compare it to the advances of the past would be difficult. In
conclusion, the positive good argument was nothing short of a means for whites of all classes on both
sides of the Mason Dixie line to ease their own guilt over the institution of slavery. It is human nature
to put a positive spin on something we benefit from. Wars have been waged under the precipice of
uniting territories, bringing order, divine right, and alike while the true motivations have been wealth,
power and glory. The south was no different from the empires of the past in that

The Pros And Cons Of Mascots
Throughout ancient times, many names have identified as racial slurs. Most recently, controversy has
surrounded multiple sports teams such as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Washington

teams. This kind of denigration has both visible and unseen consequences for Native Americans

Discovery Process In Tim Winton s Neighbours

preconceptions, which in turn cause new emotional connections to be formed. When individuals
search for a new experience, they may uncover ideas or objects that were thought to be lost through

Pornography Abuse And Violence Against Women
There are obvious problems with society today regarding the presence of sexual violence and rape.
The cause of these crimes is difficult to isolate, as it is also difficult material for researchers to
complete studies on. We need a better definition of abuse, and it needs to be stated that the intelligence
and mental instability can affect a man s actions. There can be a place in relationships for pornography
as well, where women are consenting and desire to explore different material, not necessarily being
dehumanized. While Fight the New Drug and Samantha Grey, the author of, A Letter to Men: Porn is
Not Just Women s Problem, both present claims that pornography consumption leads to violence
against women, and plea for society to reject pornography, there are unanswered questions and
overlooked aspects that leave their argument unconvincing. A guideline of what defines abuse and
violence needs to be established to properly examine pornography material. The texts presented high
percentages of violence existing in the pornography films that were used to formulate data. However,
there are no specifics regarding what violence is. Did the standards include elements of dirty talk,
kink, spanking, or BDSM? Fight the New Drug states that In other words, in porn, people are getting

Since over 95% of American s manufacturing companies are considered to be small, with less than
100 workers, the trade agreement could be a crippling blow to the industry. American jobs will be lost
and American workers will be laid off. Consumers will suffer, business will suffer, and ultimately
America will suffer. Many argue that free trade will be beneficial for the economy, but exactly who is
benefiting? America won t benefit from this deal unless its export is greater than its import. Reports
from 2014 show that the U.S. imported $2.34 trillion in goods compared to exporting $1.62 trillion
(Nash Hoff, 2015). This imbalance created a huge deficit over $720 billion, which is not even close to
being beneficial for the economy or the nation as a whole. The Peterson Institute for International
Economics estimates that the TPP would add $77.5 billion of income to the U.S. economy by 2025
(Miller, 2015). Although this seems like quite a large amount of money, it actually only represents a
gain of about 0.38% over the next decade. Some people believe this trade agreement will cause new
jobs to spring up but, in truth, a trade agreement does not on balance, create, or destroy jobs, it alters
the composition of the workforce (Miller, 2015). The income from the trade agreement wouldn t even
be a benefit to the workforce. A Center for Economic and Policy Research report looked into the

Late Fragment By Raymond Carver Analysis
Poetry; a gift from the gods of literature, blessing all those that read it with intellect and awareness of
very important issues or even a fun piece of writing to indulge in. Throughout history, many
influential writers have made an impact on society with their writing. Raymond Carver, an award
winning writer, wrote many poems and stories throughout his career that shaped writing for many
other poets. Carver was born into a family of poverty and from a young age, he did not have an ideal
relationship with his parents due to the strong use of alcohol by his father. Later on in his life, Carver
became an alcoholic and tried to distance himself from everyone around him and a career in life. It
was very clear that he was going down a very negative path; Carver got into a toxic marriage, was
diagnosed with cancer, was hospitalized for his drinking problems many times and was going to die.
Once he moved to California and found his passion for literature, his whole life seemed to have turned
around. He began to feel happier, quit drinking, divorced his first wife and married the love of his life,
Tess Gallagher. Carver typically writes stories, but also poems based on his life experiences. In
Raymond Carver s Late Fragment, a heavily enforced message is that it is not necessary to dwell on
the smaller things in life because in the end it s all up to how we feel we lived life. Carver s use of
diction throughout the poem helps to illustrate how we should live our life to the

Literacy Narrative Essay example
At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward

nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic

topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it s the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last

First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don t personally like to write for
leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being
able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my
attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I
write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better
explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because
the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is
subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP
english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing
involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to
write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a

Fossil Fuels And Alternative Energy Sources
Most fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal are considered nonrenewable resources in that their
use is not sustainable because their formation takes billions of years (Investopedia, 2014). As the
nonrenewable resources become more and more scarce, the cost to obtain them will continue to
gradually rise (Investopedia, 2014). Eventually, the price will become so high that users will no longer
be able to afford them, forcing the change from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources
(Investopedia). These alternative energy sources would include nuclear, solar, wind and hydroelectric
power. The first alternative source to be discussed is Nuclear Power. Nuclear power plants are similar

In both of these reactors the steam that is used to turn the turbines can be turned back into water and
used again in the process (Duke Energy). The next alternative energy source to be discussed is Solar
Energy. Solar power is energy from the sun, which is converted into thermal or electrical energy
(Solar Energy). Solar energy is also the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source
available, and the United States has some of the richest solar resources in the world (Solar Energy).
Technology now days can use this solar energy for several different uses, including generating
electricity, providing light, and heating water for all uses (Solar Energy). There are several ways to
harness the solar energy: photovoltaics also called solar electric, solar heating and cooling,
concentrating solar power, and passive solar (Solar Energy). The first three ways are called active
solar systems, which use mechanical or electrical devices that convert the sun s heat or light to another
form of usable energy (Solar Energy). Passive solar on the other hand are buildings designed and
oriented to collect, store and distribute the heat energy from sunlight (Solar Energy). Solar energy is a
flexible technology since solar power plants can be built as distributed generation meaning they are
located at or near the point of use, or as a central station, utility scale solar power plant similar to a

They generally preferred stylish, funky, and usually colourful products and identified quality as an

The second interview (Please see Appendix G) consisted of one individual, also of 16 years of age,
who was a Canadian high school student. She resided in Cote St Luc. Like the previous interviewees,
she also described herself as being price conscious since her purchases are paid with her own money.
Unlike the other 16 years old respondents however, quality was of higher importance for her when it
came to shopping for clothes. She was also generally looking for trendy and fashion forward clothing
when she shopped.
The third interview (Please see Appendix H) was held with two Montréal teachers, one of 33 years old
and the other of 38 years old. Both were mothers; while the former had one child, the latter had four.
Both women had preferences for classic clothing that is slightly trendy, and both wanted good quality
for good prices. They also tended to look for sales and convenience when shopping was of very high
importance for them.

  • 3. Electronic Industry In The Us Essay American corporations have found investing in manufacturing overseas to be very economical. The US has been offshoring manufacturing excessively for the last 20 plus years. Consequently, the United States has a dilemma: our country imports more goods than it exports, the U.S. is developing a serious skills gap, and jobs that would boost the domestic economy are being shipped overseas. The truth is not too many goods are actually Made in the USA . The United States as a whole is extremely advanced, innovative, and resourceful. The economy has suffered a Great Depression and a few recessions; however, we always seem to find our way back to the top and flourish. In the current aftermath of the recent Great Recession, it is time to review the state of manufacturing in The United States of America and being to repair our commitment to developing industrial might and industrial ... In short, we just don t have the capabilities to produce and manufacture the inside components of the television in your living room or the cell phone in your pocket. The U.S. may have had the ability to manufacture electronic components if we had focused on doing so from the start. Twenty years later, when technology is so advanced that it dies within a year and fulfilled with the next best thing, it would be particularly challenging to alter our practices today and obtain the skills required to keep up with that sort of trend. Further, the United States would have to start from scratch, launching massive training programs that offered advanced technology courses. Moving this type of technology in house and training courses would be expensive. Analyzing the costs so clearly condemns the idea in the short term at least. Columbus Day is the day we celebrate when Christopher Columbus landed in the New World. I believe we should not celebrate Columbus Day because I m sure we are celebrating a murder and the person supported in owning or controlling of a person. During that time of landing in the New World, he went on a killing spree of humans and of in slaving the Native Americans. Columbus Day shouldn t be a holiday anymore because all the Indians he enslaved and killed during his voyage. In addition, the strong developing of international relationship with other industrial countries resulted in massive contributions to the politics, economy, and many different aspects. Arab Peninsula which eventually became Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remained relinquished with no boundaries. After King Abdul Aziz who was supported by Great Britain united Arabs and defeated the hostiles in quarter of century of severe wars began to search for investments in order to reinforce his economy. He was urging British Petroleum to explore the oil in Saudi Arabia while the British Petroleum company was negotiating with him not for interest but for preventing other companies to enter this area. However, a former British official who had left his service and converted to Islam became a loyal adviser for King Abdul Aziz, John Philby, and so he did a great job bringing foreign companies to the Kingdom. In fact, he was the one who suggested opening a competition among the oil companies. Taking that suggestion, King Abdul Aziz signed a sixty years oil concession agreement with Chevron in 1933 covering the whole eastern region of Saudi Arabia. Faced with such difficulties exploring job, Chevron had to sell 50% of the concession to Texaco. Surprisingly, that area became the richest oil area, and it still is even today. Expressionism Overview: Expressionism is an extremely stylized mode of screen reality in which filmmakers use visual distortion to suggest emotional, social, or psychological disturbances or abnormalities. The distortions may be subtle, but often emphasize strange or bizarrely poetic artistic designs. The camera work (lighting, angles, lenses, etc.) often enhances the de centering of the screen world. Classic German Expressionism: Expressionism in its purest form is found in 1920 s German cinema, in which case it was overtly opposed to realism, emphasizing elaborate distortions in the mise en scene. Contemporary Expressionism: Most easily found in the films of Alfred Hitchcock (Psycho, e.g.). Hitchcock employs low angled shots, close ups and other camera tricks in order to accent the viewers perception of the subject and the overarching themes. Other contemporary expressionists may include Spike Lee (Crooklyn) and Tim Burton (any film of his). Fantasy and the Fantastic Overview: Though many filmmakers my employ expressionistic techniques in what we would consider an essentially realistic film, in films which employ a fantasy or fantastic mode, settings and subjects, characters, and narrative time are often displaced from the viewer s own realm into other realms, sometimes futuristic ones, whose normal laws of time and space may not apply. • 7. The Rise Of Asymmetric Warfare Question: Analyze the rise of asymmetric warfare. Provide illustrations and assess how it has reshaped behaviors and outcomes. The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to an irregular conflict that is distinct by the relative dissimilarity between opponents in battle. The asymmetry is derived from the character of warfare and dictated by the difference in relational power amid warring sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and resources, goals and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents in almost all conflicts has varied in many tactical, strategic and operational levels. A popular perception of today claims that there has been a relatively recent rise in asymmetric warfare, or conventional irregular warfare that has transformed war from a customary and symmetric exercise into an irregular, avant garde, asymmetric experience. This perception is inherently at the foundation of the question in which this essay attempts to respond. In contrast with this perspective, the main argument of this essay is that asymmetric warfare, although definitely a characteristic of the times is not a new genus of warfare that has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct revolution in military affairs. Furthermore, asymmetric warfare cannot be used as a description to describe deviation from Western norms in this case conflict. Rather, asymmetric warfare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This occurrence is perplexing as a single murderer could not be pinpointed by detectives. The culprit is Lawrence Wargrave, a retired justice whose occupation can be seen as suspicious. His characterization, and opportunity to commit the crimes should also be under question. Wargraves job as a justice is suspicious due to clues in And Then There None. During dinner the occupants of Soldier island are interrupted by a mysterious voice that accuses every character of a murder. • 9. The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Summary The following essay will lay out a literary analysis of the plot, major characters and the major themes, of the story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. The story takes place in an old mid 19th century mining town called Angels Camp, the narrator claims to go there to find a man by the name of Simon Wheeler. Like any mining town in the West, it was populated primarily by men, many of them looking for their fortune. As something of a frontier town, it would probably seem to be full of loud, uncouth, and uneducated people compared to the more genteel East. The narrator, a mannered Easterner, describes his visit to a mining camp where, on behalf of a friend, he is searching for one Leonidas W. Smiley. He stops in an old tavern, where he meets goodnatured, garrulous old Simon Wheeler, who cannot recall a Leonidas Smiley, but does remember a Jim Smiley who lived in the camp around 1849 or 1850. Without prompting, Wheeler launches into an extended narrative about the gambler Smiley and his exploits. Smiley, he says, was uncommon lucky, and had a reputation for ... • 10. Traditional Families In The 1800s Families in History There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... A cultural revolution began in the eighteenth century when many middle class parents began to relish in their children s innocence and saw this a time to nurture mold their children. As this form of parenting became the norm many parents began to have less children by using birth control, thus giving the fewer children they had more of their attention. As time progressed kids spent more time going to school rather than to work. • 12. Cause And Effect Of Alcohol Abuse Effects of Alcohol Abuse 15.1 million adults aged 18 and over suffer from alcohol abuse in the United States. Alcohol abuse is the harmful use of alcohol, despite its negative consequences on the individual, such as interfering with daily activities. Although some studies show that moderate alcohol usage can benefit one s health, it is commonly agreed that the negatives heavily outweigh the positives. About ten percent of children in the United States lives with a parent who abuses alcohol and about 88,000 people die yearly from alcohol poisoning in the United States. Therefore, alcohol abuse may have impacts on one s family life and their physiological state. To begin, alcohol abuse may have an effect on one s family life. Children, growing up around a parent who abuses alcohol may lead a life of both psychological and emotional problems, and these children may also be vulnerable to alcohol related physical and/or verbal abuse. Alcoholic parents may also influence their kids to grow up with the same habits, as children who have at least one alcoholic parent are about 3 4 times likely to abuse alcohol when they re older, compared to children that do not. In addition, having alcoholic parents may influence a student s academics. In one study, 41% of addicted parents reported that at least one of their children repeated a grade in school, 19% were involved in truancy, and 30% had been suspended from school (cite). • 13. Research Paper On Jane Flanders The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the real meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough. Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted and used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there from the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay . Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. • 16. Advantages and Disadvantages of Keyboards Versus Pencils... Technology is slowly taking over the world. It affects many things, one of them being handwriting. Typing has some advantages over handwriting, but typing also has some disadvantages. Cursive is outdated, and typing is more efficient than handwriting in general. However, handwriting has some benefits over typing. Cursive was a lot more prominent in the past then it is today. According to Remington Korper, cursive was taught before printing. This made it the main form of writing for students. Some people that had excellent cursive could take it as a job. The first type of cursive was Spencerian. • 17. Climate Change Reflection After watching the move How To Let Go and Love All The Things Climate Can t Change, my perception of our world completely changed. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don t connect with facts, people connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director s job is to be personable. People will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can t change, I believe that the most important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no. But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn t play out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe ... These prepackaged or processed foods are normally made to be faster, cheaper and usually taste great but they are loaded with bizarre, unpronounceable chemicals that, if you saw them in their pre processed state, you would never consider putting in your mouth. Emulsifiers, preservatives, colorants, stabilizers, artificial sweeteners, texturizers and even bleach can be found in most processed foods. On average, Americans spend 90% of their food budget on these types of foods which is found to contribute to the leading causes of obesity, auto immune disease, diabetes and even cancer. It is not a country that evokes much change from century to century but when taking a closer look into the country, this is a rather bias view compared to just how much the country has constantly been evolving. The biggest push of cultural change happened during the reign of Peter the Great. Peter came to power in 1682, a time when the Russian court was unreliable to one true leading family until Peter s ruling when that changed. This was a man who saw that his country needed to break from the tradition and emerge into a western society. This was not an easy change considering the remote location that Russia had to Europe and the deep traditional ways of the people. With this in mind, he created many changes that Russia was to undergo to become this powerhouse country that Peter envisioned for his people. With so much change to happen, the movement was a slow process but with Peter s motivation, nothing seemed to stop the man. Peter the Great s efforts to Westernize Russia unified Russia through his military ambitions, his cultural ambitions and his finally the creation of his city, St. Petersburg. American Beauty Film Analysis American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes and written by Alan Ball, explores the Burningham family s projection of a perfectly normal lifestyle or the ideal American family portrayal. This film is about how everything is not as it seems behind closed doors. As the storyline progresses the film adheres to multiple genre codes and conventions to deepen the story arc, this is known as Genre Hybridity as it refers to two or more established genre s through storyline, etc. (REF TO TEXTBOOK) American Beauty is a hybrid genre text because it conforms to more than one genre this being romance, satire and drama through formal elements such as narrative and screen aesthetic. This can also be further proved by examples of single/hybrid genre texts like The Notebook (2004, Nick Cassavetes), Fight Club (1999, David Fincher) and Bold and the Beautiful (1987 , William J Bell). http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/1213628.pdf?acceptTC=true Many major box office hits in today s day an age contain comedy, witty one liner s, major plot twists but mostly romance. The romance genre has become a booming success in the film industry as of late 2000 s. (REF) The genre is difficult to define but can be described as the development of love between characters as a main narrative (REF). This can be shown by the massive success of the iconic film, The Notebook grossing in at $115, 603, 229 worldwide. (REF) The film is set around two characters falling in love, therefore falling under the romance genre. One of the conventions of a romance film is forbidden love, this is shown throughout the Notebook between the two main protagonists and is also shown in the movie American Beauty. In American Beauty the protagonist, Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) becomes infatuated with his daughter s best friend, Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari) this creates tension between the characters as Angela continuously entices Mr. Burnham whilst knowing they can never be together due to the age gap and because of his daughter, it is more of an unnatainable lust, therefore conforming to the forbidden love narrative contained within most romantic films. Pro slavery advocates were also quick to point out that the great empires of history were based on slave labor. • 35. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one s opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it s the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I ve gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I m not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it s part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it s just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don t personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Fossil Fuels And Alternative Energy Sources Most fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal are considered nonrenewable resources in that their use is not sustainable because their formation takes billions of years (Investopedia, 2014). As the nonrenewable resources become more and more scarce, the cost to obtain them will continue to gradually rise (Investopedia, 2014). Eventually, the price will become so high that users will no longer be able to afford them, forcing the change from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources (Investopedia). These alternative energy sources would include nuclear, solar, wind and hydroelectric power. The first alternative source to be discussed is Nuclear Power. Nuclear power plants are similar to fossil fueled power plants in which water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both of these reactors the steam that is used to turn the turbines can be turned back into water and used again in the process (Duke Energy). The next alternative energy source to be discussed is Solar Energy. Solar power is energy from the sun, which is converted into thermal or electrical energy (Solar Energy). Solar energy is also the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available, and the United States has some of the richest solar resources in the world (Solar Energy). Technology now days can use this solar energy for several different uses, including generating electricity, providing light, and heating water for all uses (Solar Energy). There are several ways to harness the solar energy: photovoltaics also called solar electric, solar heating and cooling, concentrating solar power, and passive solar (Solar Energy). The first three ways are called active solar systems, which use mechanical or electrical devices that convert the sun s heat or light to another form of usable energy (Solar Energy). Passive solar on the other hand are buildings designed and oriented to collect, store and distribute the heat energy from sunlight (Solar Energy). Solar energy is a flexible technology since solar power plants can be built as distributed generation meaning they are located at or near the point of use, or as a central station, utility scale solar power plant similar to a traditional power ... • 37. Marketing Research Focus Group Report ***Please note that the Problem and Research Objectives for this project were changed since the last report was handed in. For a definition of this new problem and its accompanying research objectives, please see Appendix A. 1. Primary Qualitative Research 1.1 Methodology The qualitative research for this project included both focus group and in depth interviews. All participants were females since that is the demographic towards which Rocco is catered and included both some of its existing and potential consumers. Each focus group and set of interviews was divided according to four different age segments: those under 20 years old, those in their twenties, those in their thirties, and those over 40 years old. These age ranges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They generally preferred stylish, funky, and usually colourful products and identified quality as an unimportant factor when it comes to making a purchase decision. These respondents requested to be interviewed together, which proved to be favourable since it made them more comfortable and allowed for more thorough responses. The second interview (Please see Appendix G) consisted of one individual, also of 16 years of age, who was a Canadian high school student. She resided in Cote St Luc. Like the previous interviewees, she also described herself as being price conscious since her purchases are paid with her own money. Unlike the other 16 years old respondents however, quality was of higher importance for her when it came to shopping for clothes. She was also generally looking for trendy and fashion forward clothing when she shopped. The third interview (Please see Appendix H) was held with two Montréal teachers, one of 33 years old and the other of 38 years old. Both were mothers; while the former had one child, the latter had four. Both women had preferences for classic clothing that is slightly trendy, and both wanted good quality for good prices. They also tended to look for sales and convenience when shopping was of very high importance for them. 1.2 Analysis Answers gathered from the two focus groups and from the three in depths interviews were put ...
