Use Of Hypnosis And Medical Practice
The Use of Hypnosis in Medical Practice
A literature review
Ashley Gowty 10207287
For centuries hypnosis was far from being part of the scientific world. But in the last couple of
decades its reputation has moved from that of cult practise to a highly recognised psychological
practice. Recently there has been an emerging trend using hypnosis in a physiological manner; this
review will look at how hypnosis is currently being used in the medical field. Looking at what exactly
hypnosis is and its therapeutic uses, it s use as a treatment for pain relief and reflecting on how
hypnotizable the general population is.
The literature reviewed is generally definitive in the nature of hypnosis. Bryant and Mabbutt (2006, p.
12) describe it as ... a state of mind connected to deep relaxation, narrowed focus, and increased
suggestibility. They also suggest that Hypnosis is an intermediate state between sleep and
wakefulness. Bryant and Mabbutt s description is echoed by Cyna, McAuliffe, Andrew who apply the
use of hypnosis to the clinical setting (hypnotherapy) and suggest that it is used to to achieve specific
therapeutic goals such as the alleviation of pain or anxiety. (Cyna, McAuliffe, Andrew, 2004). Staff at
The Mayo Clinic extend upon the defination of hypnosis by stating that Hypnosis is intended to help
you gain more control over undesired behaviours or emotions or to help you cope better with a wide
range of medical conditions. (Staff, 2009). They continue by

Summary Of Socrates Philosophy And Doing One s Own Things
For the extra credit assignment I attended Dr. Joanne Waugh, Socrates, philosophy, and doing One s
Own things . She explains the definition of the philosopher as they do not take up a position in an
audience at a Mimetic performance, Loves the spectacle of truth, and wants the whole of wisdom, not
apart. The do not desires beautiful sights and sounds, but seizing the nature of the beautiful itself. She
exemplifies what a philosopher is, which they seeks the pleasure of the soul, itself by itself, and not
those of the body; Living condition, knowledge sought, education, and political responsibilities. In
contrast to Waugh s definition of philosophy, Socrates explains his way of defining a philosopher,
which is that one learn how to think and

Man the Hunter Revisited
Man the Hunter: Revisited In 1966, a group of about fifty anthropologists met in Chicago for a
conference that would later known as the Man the Hunter meeting. The meeting contrasted with
earlier scholarship and presented a Hollywood approach to the topic of early man, one where our
ancestors were strong, powerful, and in control of their environment. Anthropologists Sherwood L.
Washburn and C.S. Lancaster (1968), both present at the conference claimed, our intellect, interests,
emotions, and basic social life all are evolutionary products of the success of the hunting adaptation .
The book Man the Hunter that emerged from the conference forced a re evaluation of human
subsistence strategies and the role of the hunter in human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the sexual division of labor was given more attention and there was recognition of the
importance of the female contribution given to sustaining early modern human society. As a result of
the research, the gatherer female emerged and in many ways surpassed the male hunter as the
foundation of early modern human society. The female gatherer trumped the male hunter. Ultimately,
the work of the feminist anthropologists was significant because it discredited the male centric theory
of the 1960 s, emasculated the role of man, but provided a more balanced and accurate perspective
regarding the role of women in early human society. Progressing into the modern era, research has
again refocused the academic microscope on the once chastised man the hunter theory. Contrasting
with earlier scholarship, Michael P. Richards and Erik Trinkhaus (2009) proved Neanderthals and
early modern humans relied on meat and hunting for subsistence. They did so through comparative
isotopic analysis of nitrogen and carbon isotope values to compare protein consumption between early
modern humans, Neanderthals, and local fauna. For example, the Oase 1 (the oldest directly dated
modern human in Europe) has a nitrogen level that is 10.8% higher than the ibex and 8.0% higher than
the red deer.

Myers and Briggs Personality Tests Essay
Myers and Briggs Analysis The Myers and Briggs Analysis is a series of questions that when
answered are examined and grouped together in order to determine the personalities of those taking
this test. This particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is
determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use your
senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are judgmental or
perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities and help us to determine
which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our personality traits and abilities to work
well with others, which is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do find my values to be important to me, but I am not one to push my values onto others because I
would never ask someone to believe in or do something they did not agree with. Overall this analysis
of my personality seems to be pretty accurate with a few traits from the ISFP category as well. Myers
and Briggs created a personality test that not only will help people to figure out their personality types,
but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which career pathways people should take based on
their specific personality traits. Based on the personality trait INFP that was given to me from the
Myer Briggs test I have quite a few career pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career
choices suited to my personality is a writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist,
musician, or a religious worker; which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad
selection of careers that would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have
chosen; which is to become a physical therapist, but if I was not set on a goal some of these career
ideas would not seem too bad. While reading the list of jobs suited for my personality I was surprised
to see that psychologist was on the list because before I decided to go for physical therapy I wanted to
pursue a career in that exact field. As for most of the other fields mentioned above I

Bullying And Mass Violence
With sound, scholarly evidence, Newman argues that a majority of school shootings are caused due to
the surroundings of the shooter. Therefore, she examines the connections of the individual shooters
and takes a deeper look at their culture and communities. She finds that overall, fifty three percent
were called names, fourteen percent were threatened and five percent were physically hurt , and
gained the knowledge that out of many incidents of school shootings, sixty three percent of the cases
were triggered by bullying (Newman 504). There has been a growing body of research that link a
strong relationship between bullying and mass violence. For instance, Professors Michael Kimmel and
Matthew Mahler of Stony Brook University found that most

African American Civil War And The Period Of Reconstruction
After the Civil War and the period of Reconstruction there were many political, social and economic
changes which continued to affect the society. The role of African Americans in society changed after
the abolishment of slavery. This new freedom and opportunities were not much greater than before
when slavery existed. Despite reconstruction efforts, African Americans faced discrimination. Society
as a whole was altered extensively at this time.
After the civil war, political changes affected African American lives significantly. African Americans
were freed of slavery by the 13th amendment and the 14th amendment guaranteed their citizenship,
Everyone born or naturalized in the US were granted citizenship and were equal under the law (Doc
1). After about 250 years of slavery, African Americans were finally free of slavery (Johnson, 2000).
Though they were free, they had nowhere to go and no money to spend, They were sent away empty
handed, without money, without friends, and without a foot of land to stand upon (Doc 2). Former
owners used their power to place limitations on emancipation. The former slaves had to end up
working for their former masters and borrowing land/money from them. As many people disagreed
with the decision of the 13th amendment, many hate groups started to appear. Most commonly known
group was the KKK founded Tennessee, 1865 ( Ku Klux Klan, n.d.). They took it upon themselves to
hurt African Americans in various ways, People have been driven

Revised Order Of The Sacraments Of Initiation
Revised Order of the Sacraments of Initiation Bishop Álvaro Corrada said, The sacraments draw
humanity into the truth and love of God revealed in Christ, thereby disposing the faithful to live this
love more deeply in their daily lives of Christian freedom and witness. They serve to introduce us into
the Catholic Church, increase our understanding of our religion, bestow upon us essential Christian
virtues, and strengthen our faith. There are seven sacraments in total: Baptism, Confirmation,
Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage.
The first three Sacraments listed are the Sacraments of Initiation. The Sacraments of Christian
Initiation Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist lay the foundations of every Christian life...By
means of these Sacraments of Christian Initiation, [we] thus receive in increasing measure the
treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity. (CCC Chapter 1, Article
2:1212) These sacraments represent our birth into the Church, the seal of our birth into the Church,
and the reception of Jesus body. In the words of the Catholic Church, The Christian is born anew by
Baptism, strengthened by Confirmation, and receives in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. (CCC
Chapter 1, Article 2:1212)
In the early Church, the three Sacraments of Initiation were practiced in one significant process. When
the person reached a point of spiritual maturity (usually as an adult, contrary to today), he

Essay On Feral Cat Mitigation
Feral Cat Mitigation Efforts: TNR and More With feral cats posing ecological and public health
threats, many different techniques, reflecting a range of moral and ethical values, have been proposed
and implemented. TNR is considered one of the most humane methods, but other methods that exist
include euthanasia, trap and eradication, and more intensive versions of TNR that include vaccinations
and rehabilitations. These methods vary in their effectiveness, practicality, cost and social acceptance.
Additionally, differences in how people perceive animals and their intrinsic value, have made feral cat
mitigation efforts an extremely charged topic for animal welfare advocates, policy makers,
conservationists and pet owners. When analyzing methods, it s important to evaluate what their goals
are in terms of managing feral cat populations, state their ethical and moral perspective, and determine
their effectiveness. Additionally, their impact on cat behavior will be explored using evidence from a
variety of related studies, which will serve to assist in judging the effectivity of the population control
method. The method for controlling feral cat populations that is focused on in this paper is TNR,
which stands for Trap Neuter Release (though, for clarity, the term neuter refers to sterilization of both
male and female cats). This method is extremely popular around the world due to the fact that it is
considered extremely humane; rejecting the idea that healthy feral cats

Petrarch s Influence On Christianity
Two humanist ideas that defined the age of the Renaissance were the idea that man could achieve and
leaning away from the Christian world view. The enforcement of the idea that man could achieve led
people to valuing their strengths more than they did before. Leaning away from the Christian world
view let people experience a different type of lifestyle. Upholding the humanistic concept of man
could achieve enabled the citizens of Europe to hold their abilities to higher standards, leading to
achievement. In The Ascent of Mount Ventoux, Petrarch wrote about his ascent of the highest
mountain in his region. By pushing himself both physically and mentally to reach the peak, Petrarch
proved what he could truly achieve, only to see the view. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Ascent of Mount Ventoux , Petrarch mentioned that the main reason behind his ascent was only
to see the view from the highest peak. This exhibited the leaning away from Christian reasoning by
showing that Petrarch did not do everything to deepen his Christian faith, but for his own self
exploration. In Primavera , Botticelli displayed figures from Roman mythology, such as Venus and the
Three Graces. This showed that incorporating not only Christian figures into art, but ones from the
Greco Roman culture actually helped people advance in society, like Botticelli did. In The Prince ,
Machiavelli said that the proper prince s actions should not be restricted by moral considerations.
Machiavelli proved that by doing what is necessary, a prince could be more successful than if he were
to follow the Christian morals that were deemed so high during the Middle Ages. The idea that
Europeans could wean themselves from following every Christian moral consideration helped the
advancement of society because now people were able to branch out into doing things that previously
would have seemed

The Importance Of A Connection And Understanding The...
Medication has created descriptive groups in those who misuse the medication or who are addicted.
However, it is important to analysis a person individually instead of grouping them in the immoral
bubble. In this interview, the importance of creating a connection and understanding the individual
lifestyle with their opinions they created for themselves must be respected. In order for me to be at par
with my interviewee in not claiming or accusing of immorality in his consumption of medication, I
limited my biased views and instead asked questions that created my interviewee, will be known as
GE, to continue explaining. GE has been using a large consumption of Advil in his for his constant
dental discomforts, hangovers, headaches, and in general any pain. Through various amounts of
questions, I learned about the trust GE has in Advil due to his loyalty to the medication. He has not
tried other pain relieving treatments for the reason he has not had any problems with his current
medication. His trust has lead him to feel safe when he neglects in several occasions the recommended
dosage. He is able to intake another pill without feeling endanger. I found it surprising how his trust
tempers with the indulgent of consumption and never from curiosity to discover risks of increasing of
dosages. However, his trust to Advil has given him the ability to experiment with the intake of Advil.

The Greatest Causes Of The Scientific Revolution
The scientific revolution was a period of time where there was many improvements of life, technology
and understanding of the world around us. People began to realize that nothing was being achieved
when religion was the only answer to anything and realised that you can have a good life before death.
This resulted in a new lifestyle for civilians and a happier life. The fight for who was the cause of the
greatest effect of the Scientific Revolution is an ongoing debate. Today I will be breaking down many
people who put their foot forwards in a time of need and seeing who was the greatest. They will be put
into a bracket starting with eight people on each side and within four tiers of battles (tier one being the
first round of battles and tier four being the championship or fight for who had the biggest impact on
The Scientific Revolution) there will be announced a winner. In the first clash of philosophers in the
first tier we have Francis Bacon versus Robert Boyle. These two were matched together because of
their involvement in early science. Francis Bacon was the developer of the Scientific Method, which is
one of the most commonly used ways to figure anything out. Robert Boyle helped advance some
things, but my verdict is that overall Francis Bacon was more successful in long term advancements so
he wins. The next matchup of the first tier is Robert Hooke versus Joseph Priestly. They were matched
together because of their significance of their discoveries, and how they

On June 22nd 1903 John Herbert Dillinger was born to John and Mollie Dillinger . His parents ran and
owned a grocery store in Indianapolis, Indiana, and at the age of three his mother died . John Dillinger
s father described his son as a restless and aggressive child . Beginning from a young age, the dark
side of Dillinger became evident, as he created and led a gang called The Dirty Dozen . The worst
criminal act the Dirty Dozen participated in consisted of stealing coal from the nearby railroad . As
Dillinger grew older, so did the intensity of his crimes. In his teenage years Dillinger stole a car to

stay. Together they started to create an escape plan. These men later mentored him in the form of

John Hamilton, and Russell Clark all influenced Dillinger, and after their escape from jail they joined
his gang . Dillinger s completed gang included these men and also John Red Hamilton, Tommy
Carroll, Baby Face Nelson, Pat Reilly, Russell Boobie Clark, Ed Shouse, Harry Copeland, William
Shaw, and Noble Claycomb . One of the men, Harry Pierpoint, especially became a major influence
on John. The two became close throughout their stay in jail, and worked together in later crimes .
After his parole in May of 1933, Dillinger entered into a broken country and he soon capitalized on
the situation by allegedly freeing his gang from jail, and soon after he robbed his first bank in Ohio
stealing $10,600 . Over the course of the next four months Dillinger robbed five Ohio and Indiana
banks. Towards the end of 1933, the police arrested him in his most recent residence in Ohio .
Returning the favor, his new gang helped John breakout in October of 1933 . It did not take long for
Dillinger to start trouble again, just eleven days after his escape, he and his gang robbed Central

The Three Categories Of Evidence-Based Practice

COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION
To understand why unlike the Soviet Union s political system, China s is not near collapse, one must
first understand why and how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) collapsed, resulting
in the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. After the October Revolution, the CPSU adopted Leninism
as the main party ideology, and moved swiftly to adopt socialist changes. However, as Lenin s health
declined, his main supporters, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, began fighting amongst themselves.
Stalin won, forcing Trotsky into exile, and after Lenin s death, began implementing a series of policies
known as Stalinism to solidify his totalitarian rule. Partly influenced by fascism, Stalin promoted the

Leonid Brezhnev, who took power after Khrushchev, attempted to reinstate Stalinism back into the
Soviet Union. His reign created the neo Stalinist period in Russia, albeit with a series of economic
reforms that favored light industries and the production of consumer goods than heavy industry.
Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations,
attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to
health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU
leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly
conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and
relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited with
the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and international
affairs. Following Brezhnev was Yuri Andropov, a reformist who, during his short time as the General
Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, pushed for more freedom in media and appointed
several other reformers into key positions in the CPSU. Konstantin Chernenko, who took power
against Andropov s wishes following his demise, attempted to shift back into the Brezhnev era
policies, while also promoting reforms in education and the role of labor unions. However, poor health
prevented him from properly implementing policies, and de facto power remained with reformer
Mikhail Gorbachev. By this point, the constant fighting between reformists and Stalinists, together
with conflicting and ineffective policies, had severely damaged the Soviet economy, as well as
deteriorated international relations, escalating the Cold War, and slowly worsened socioeconomic and
political tensions within

In Telephone Conversation we have a telephone conversation between a black man who wants to rent

addressed to God from the point of view of an unborn baby who is scared to go into society. They both
have negative views of society.
In Prayer Before Birth society is presented as scary. The narrator is pleading and says I fear . She (no
gender is specified as it is meant to symbolize all of humanity) is scared of blood baths . This uses
alliteration and it is a metaphor. This could stand for all the violence that exists in the world wars,

is more positive as there is a man dealing with racism, and despite feeling anger , (symbolised by the
red booth and the Red pillar box the red symbolizing anger), he does not act with violence, he acts

Society is ... made to seem ridiculous
Soyinka s main aim with this poem was to try to change people s racist views. She does this by
showing a racist incident, but showing it as ridiculous, thus highlighting just how stupid and
nonsensical the racist views of 1950s British society actually were. The white lady is made to seem
uneducated, as I have already said. Through the comparison of his education and her ignorance, she is
mocked. She actually symbolises society at the time, and so by mocking her, the whole of society is
mocked. Whereas he is, on the whole, very polite he calls her Madam , and he deals politely with her

smallpox but another virus that was characteristically similar. In 1888, von Bokoy made a connection
between that of Varicella and HZ. He observed children, without prior Varicella immunity, become
exposed to HZ and, as a result, developed a primary Varicella ... Show more content on

One idea worth investigating is the process in which T cells, whose purpose is to protect the body
against viral infections, become infected. Dendritic cells communicate with T cells in regards to what
action is necessary to fight off antigens. When the dendritic cells become infected, T cells will not
initiate a response to defend the body against VZV. Perhaps the most compelling argument as to the
severity of infection in adults is the involution of the Thymus, which occurs at the onset of puberty.
This may play a major role in the adult body s ability to control the infection. Furthermore, dendritic
cells of skin, if infected, can in fact inhibit immune responses in the skin, which may cause a more
severe infection (Abendroth; Padiatr). Next, what is the cause of reactivation of VZV as HZ? Much
has been speculated that an increase of age as well as a decrease in immunity is the cause of
reactivation. This could be further elaborated on by examining the possibility of necroptosis within the
Peripheral Nervous System. This mechanism serves as a signal for T Cells to attack the latent VZV.
Since the virus can inhibit apoptosis, but not necroptosis, this signaling may initiate the virus s defense
mechanism to begin replication. In order for T Cells to attack the virus, the cells must first destroy
Satellite cells which surround the infected nerves. Damage to these cells as well as ganglionic neural
cells causes the severe pain associated with Herpes Zoster (Steain). Finally, what are some of the
negative aspects of the Varicella vaccination? Although the vaccination is effective in preventing a
person from contracting VZV, it is possible for immunization to wear off. In this case, a person who
believes he or she is immune to the virus could contract it. With only a single dose of the Varicella
vaccine, a

What Is The Literary Criticism Of The Devil And Tom Walker

Literary Analysis: The Devil and Tom Walker
The Devil and Tom Walker is a short story written by Washington Irving. The story is about a legend
of a pirates treasure hidden in a swamp and how a miserly man named Tom Walker finds it on his way
home through a swamp. When Tom is in the swamp a dark tall man, Old Scratch, who Tom recognizes
as the Devil, offers Tom a deal for the treasure. Tom goes home and tells his wife about the deal the
Devil gave him, her greedy made her to take all their valuable possessions and go bargain with the
Devil for the treasure. When she didn t return Tom Walker decided to go look for his wife. When Tom
was looking for her, he found her apron, liver, and her heart tied up to a tree. After seeing this Tom
decided to make the deal with the Devil. The Devil tells Tom that he must do services to the devil for
the treasure. He first tells Tom to become a slaver trader; however Tom refuses to become one. Finally
the Devil tells Tom to become a corrupted money loaner, which he agrees to, so he moves to Boston
and becomes a moneylender. While at Boston Tom regrets doing the deal with the Devil and tries
going to zealous church in a hope to redeem his soul for what has he done; however it was too late for
Tom Walker. One afternoon while Tom s victims were begging him for a delay, Tom lost his patience
and his pity and yelled The Devil take me... if I have made a farthing! (Irving, The Devil and Tom
Walker). Immediately after this statement Tom hears three knocks on his door and the Devil comes for
Tom and rides away with him on his horse. The next day Tom s house and all his belongings are burnt
down, and Tom is never seen ever again.
In this story we can see many interesting facts about the main character Tom Walker such as his
relations with other characters and his own beliefs. In the story we can see how Tom doesn t accept the
deal with the Devil at first, but when his wife dies in hands of the Devil, Tom Walker now accepts to
do the deal; however he doesn t accept because he feels like he has lost everything but because now
his wife can t take away any part of the treasure and now he will do the things he wants for his own
good and not to please

According to Source A, the public health risk highlighted is second hand smoke (SHS). In the picture,
since the smokers, who are the parents, are smoking in the public area, thus lead to the people around
them, who are their children, unavoidably inhale the SHS. They look very bitter and they have to wear
masks to avoid the SHS. Thus, lead to poor respiratory health of both smokers and the surrounding

Ptsd Is A Whole Body Tragedy, An Integral Human Event Of...
A quote stated by Susan Pease Banitt once said, PTSD is a whole body tragedy, an integral human
event of enormous proportions with massive repercussions . Veterans returning from war should be
able to overcome post traumatic stress disorder by going to health professionals or getting help with
counseling. What is PTSD? Post traumatic stress disorder is a life threatening exposure in which an
individual experiences a flashback to a traumatic event, such as war. Combat often substantially
affects the soldier s minds, but post traumatic stress disorder can follow after a personal assault too
(Wiley, 875). Post traumatic stress disorder develops in response to a traumatic event. About 60% of
men and 50% of women experience a traumatic event in their lifetime. For most people they will have
the symptoms of PTSD for about days or weeks after the event happened, but for others the symptoms
are way more sever and long lasting. The reasons on why some people develop this disorder are still
being studied though (Candy, 243). PTSD is more common in at risk groups than as those serving in
combat, but that doesn t mean that people that serve as combat are less likely to get PTSD. At least
30% of men and women who served in Vietnam experience post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD
begins usually after a traumatic event but it can also be delayed for many years. Most of the symptoms
can improve gradually after a year but for some the symptoms can last a lifetime (Blow et. al. 266).

Thesis About Yaeba
Young Japanese women and girls are suffering from the Yaeba Complex. Unlike their counterparts in
many other developed nations who view straight teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to
undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. In this essay, through the
lenses of the growing Yaeba trend, I will account for the reasons that contribute to this seemingly
weird Japanese obsession of a preference for an imperfect smile, and study the possible societal issues
that have resulted in the former s emergence. A cross country analysis between Japan and America
will also be briefly conducted to highlight the cultural similarities and differences between a highly
Westernised Japan and the West itself. Yaeba ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in part due to numerous Japanese celebrities hopping onto the bandwagon of Yaeba procedures
(Considine, 2011), playing an instrumental role in popularising and defining a new beauty fashion.
Indeed, a quick search on the internet churns out dozens of websites highlighting numerous prominent
Japanese celebrities proudly displaying their Yaeba, with the phrase cute , ubiquitous in the
descriptions . Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I
posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend
highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to
an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been
suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus,
2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority
of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with
women possessing child like appearance also seems to be sexualising women (Considine, 2011) into
symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for

Essay On Water Supply System
In a recent proposal the state of California has decided we need to take further action into protecting
our water reliability. Officials are suggesting that we should spend $20 50 billion into creating a two
new tunnels known as the California WaterFix system from the Sacramento River to the Delta
pumping plants in the Southern Delta, with funding being allocated from both agricultural and urban
users. Although there are some benefits from creating a new water project, it would have far more
negative externalities when it comes to economical, environmental, and corrupt agribusinesses. To
invest in a completely new water supply system is economically unreasonable. The total costs to build
the tunnels could go over $20 50 billion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The California Waterfix proponents often mention that building the new tunnels will be safer and
more reliable towards the fisheries and the ocean outflows. However, the co plan Bay Delta
Conservation Plan is deceitful in its true intentions. By shifting the Sacramento River with the flow of
fresh water, it would lead to an even greater rise in sea levels along with climate change. By focusing
our investments into restructuring the current Delta levees with an increase in outflows and state of the
art fish screens, it would preserve the endangered marine life. Also, there is an ongoing fear within
Southern California residents with the topic of earthquakes, finding comfort with the reliability of the
new Waterfix systems. In the case of the surrounding areas of the Delta, it s almost impossible for the
system to be completely protected against water breaks. Investing in new tunnels won t change
anything in how our system will put up against a natural disaster. The main audience that benefits
from building the new Waterfix system are the agribusinesses and oil companies. In particular, the
Kern County Water Agency, Metropolitan Water District, and the Westlands Water District are big
proponents in building the tunnels for their own personal gain, even though they already receive
plenty of water from the Bay Delta. Instead of paying directly for the regulation of the WaterFix
tunnels, taxpayer money would subsidize water for private

Crime, Crime And Basic Models Of Organized Crimes
Basic models of organized crimes include, youth and street gang, corporate organization, patron and
client network, multimodal approach model and individual difference model. Patron client produce
crime groups that function a small units within the overall structure. These networks are normally
made up of, hierarchies, personalized activities such as family rivalry, recruiting and training one
family members with their major belief system relying on their family values, religion and tradition.
Corporate organizations focuses more on operations and success of the organization unlike patron
client model their operations are not based on social or cultural belief rather they have formulated
strict rules which they have put down in writing. However the model has some limitations such as,
maintaining written record may tamper with security of the organization, manipulations in lower ranks
can totally distinguish the entire organization. Youth and street gang model is an organization formed
by peers that are based of street neighborhood that meet the gang category. It can be defined as a
group of self driven peers who have a common interest with recognized leadership and internal
organization with specific objectives to achieve, Miller (1992). The reasons why the youth engage in
gang include the need to be accepted in the group, some lack the aspect of family, increase self esteem
and also be accepted. Cohen (1955), the working class teenagers engaged in street gang in order

How The Erie Canal Shaped And Reshaped The Identity Of New...
The Erie Canal, which was three hundred sixty miles, forty feet wide and four feet deep at its
completion, was able to bridge a connection from Lake Erie to the Hudson and was a reliable form of
transportation (as the roads were not the network it is today). The Erie Canal, after its construction
was able to rupture the boundaries of western and eastern (northeastern) New York and encouraged
inward and outward flow (migration) of people, animals, goods, money, trade, sickness and disease,
ideas, and news, and was able to deconstruct as well as reconstruct the identity of New York State as a
consequence of its success. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how the Erie Canal shaped and
reshaped the identity of New York State through the compression and expansion of space and time
during industrialization, the second wave of globalization, through the canal s economic success, and
through the rupturing of boundaries. The Erie Canal has been praised for years as a well known
legendary waterway around the world (Larkin 1998). The canal has been termed as the greatest public
work undertaken by a free society solely for the benefit of its people...the undertaking was a
prodigious one (Edmonds 1960, p. 1). After opening in 1825, the Erie Canal was named the longest
canal in the world and opened the West to become a globalized nation, brought affluence to New York
State as well as establishing New York City as a shipping port (Wyld 1986). It can be argued that the

Thucydides Historical Technique Essay
Thucydides Historical Technique
Thucydides has often been described as one of the fathers of history, and possibly the first historian
that can be used with any real historical accuracy. His objectivity and lack of digressive storytelling
mark him out from previous historians such as Herodotus, and Thucydides began a new era of
historical writing. Although named the father of history, Herodotus wrote in a literary style, rather than
the accurate telling of the facts and objective analysis that Thucydides offers us in his History of the
Peloponnesian War. Herodotus tended to digress with irrelevant storytelling, whereas Thucydides
abandoned this technique, and adopted a method that greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His exile may also have been a blessing in disguise, for it allowed him to become somewhat detached
from the Athenian side, and allowed him to write a more useful and balanced history. I think that this
can be seen when he is describing the opening stages of the war. Corinth and Corcyra are the two
countries who appear to spark off the war. Once war broke out, Corinth became allied with Sparta, and
Corcyra became an ally of Athens following a debate over Corcyra[3]. As well as being an Athenian
Thucydides clearly sees Corcyra as being the aggressor, and describes the way that Corcyra
disrespected its mother city state. (Apparently, Corcyra did not give Corinth the usual respect and
rights due to a founding city, and in fact Corcyra claimed that it was superior to Corinth in a number
of ways.)
…and at the same time they [the Corinthians] hated the Corcyraeans because they failed to show to
Corinth the respect due from a colony to the mother city.
Thucydides shows from the opening lines of his history that it was his vocation to records the events,
and therefore remained unbiased by events throughout the war, and concentrates rather on recording
the events, and including some of his own analysis.
Thucydides later became a general for the Athenians, and was unfortunate to be

Is Welfare Possible for Marx Under the Capitalist Mode of...
In discussing is welfare possible for Marx under the capitalist mode of production there is some
debate that the welfare state have been guided through by questions, one is that the salience of the
class diminish with the extension of social citizenship? Or can welfare state fundamentally transforms
capitalist society? And finally what are the causal forces behind welfare state development? (Esping
Andersen, 1989). But as you can guess these questions aren t recent, as they were established in the
19th century by political economists, it doesn t matter whether they are liberal, conservative or even

Odysseus Short Story Essay
When the king of Phaeacia decided to give Odysseus a new crew they set off immediately. They set
sails and go south, but 10 miles down they see a chameleon type monster as large as the cyclops. They
ready their swords and raise their shields, except the monster greets them with a soft hello as docile as
a baby puppy.
Who are you? said Odysseus.
I am Chamelo, I was sent here by Zeus to help you get home. said the Chameleon. How can you prove
to me you want to help us? Odysseus asked.
I can morph into anything from 100 years ahead of time and behind, but not anything present.
Anytime I do that the time goes up by double and the older or futuristic it is, the more problems it will
have. Also if we need anything huge it takes out a lot of my energy so we would need to wait for my
energy to replenish. Chamelo said.
Okay then, can you morph into a huge boat 2654 years from now? He asked.
Yes, give me a few minutes It said.
A few minutes later the Chameleon, like he said, slowly turned into a huge metal ship with things
called motors and electronics. After being amazed, they went on and ran through it with amazement.
This here is something called a cruise ship, it is used for people to safely travel through the seas with
great fun in the 2000 s, and I am talking to you through things called speakers. Chamelo said

Examples Of Mixed Race In Chesnutt
In the novel, Chesnutt uses mixed race characters, which have both black and white ancestors and
these characters display the conflicts between black and white societies. Within the novel, Janet Miller
is the best example of a mixed race character. Janet s father was from the white aristocracy, while her
mother was a slave and a servant. Janet is emotionally hurt because she doesn t receive the same
affection like white half sister. She views herself as black and submits to the segregation of the time.
In comparison to societal views, Olivia Carteret also cannot view her sister as an equal which is
incredibly sad. Janet s angry compassion for her white sister sets the novel s climax and represents
hope for equality between the races. The Millers are well educated and were brought up in the white
world where they exclude themselves from the poor and uneducated members within the society.
However, the whites within society do not welcome them due to their race because they think that
Africans lack sense of purity. When exploring the complexity of mixed races in the South Chesnutt
describes, looking at these two men with the American eye, the differences would perhaps be the more
striking, or at least the more immediately apparent, for the first was white and the second black, or,
more correctly speaking, brown...but both his swarthy complexion and his curly hair revealed what
has been described in the laws of some of our states as a visible admixture of African blood

Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay
Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in
an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency,
decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of
health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an
important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is
very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite
considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics
health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now
kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical
history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of
medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow
patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email
access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of
information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake,

Internet Censorship in China Essay
In the United States, every child, teenager and adult uses Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook, among
numerous other sites, regularly. The internet is open and uncensored for the most part, other than
parental controls. In China, most, if not all of those types of sites are or have been blocked. As in, you
could not go to them, unless you found some way around the web filters and firewalls the Chinese
government runs in their country. While China defends their practice of internet censorship, based on
protecting the people, heavy internet censorship is a block to free speech and impedes economic and
social development in the 21st century. China says it has its reasons for censoring its internet. Wang

The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them

of why these regulations present a new block for free speech. What Netizen will dare to criticize the
regime after meeting the person who could put them behind bars for one wrong word? (Anonymous)
Reporters Without Borders is further stating that someone who might talk about something the
government might find questionable will not do it at all if that person is met by someone who could
put them in prison. On the other hand, the US does not actively regulate the internet, relying on the
public to regulate content on the internet, with little government intervention. The internet in the US is
relatively open, whereas in China, information on the internet is suppressed based on what the Chinese
government deems appropriate or inappropriate. Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has stated,
Countries that heavily censor the Net are creating a new Information Curtain to rival the old Iron
Curtain of the Cold War era. (Anderson) Clinton talked more of the US s position on internet
censorship. Further, New technologies do not take sides, said Clinton. But the United States does. The
US supports an open internet. (Anderson)

  • 2. Use Of Hypnosis And Medical Practice The Use of Hypnosis in Medical Practice A literature review Ashley Gowty 10207287 For centuries hypnosis was far from being part of the scientific world. But in the last couple of decades its reputation has moved from that of cult practise to a highly recognised psychological practice. Recently there has been an emerging trend using hypnosis in a physiological manner; this review will look at how hypnosis is currently being used in the medical field. Looking at what exactly hypnosis is and its therapeutic uses, it s use as a treatment for pain relief and reflecting on how hypnotizable the general population is. The literature reviewed is generally definitive in the nature of hypnosis. Bryant and Mabbutt (2006, p. 12) describe it as ... a state of mind connected to deep relaxation, narrowed focus, and increased suggestibility. They also suggest that Hypnosis is an intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness. Bryant and Mabbutt s description is echoed by Cyna, McAuliffe, Andrew who apply the use of hypnosis to the clinical setting (hypnotherapy) and suggest that it is used to to achieve specific therapeutic goals such as the alleviation of pain or anxiety. (Cyna, McAuliffe, Andrew, 2004). Staff at The Mayo Clinic extend upon the defination of hypnosis by stating that Hypnosis is intended to help you gain more control over undesired behaviours or emotions or to help you cope better with a wide range of medical conditions. She explains the definition of the philosopher as they do not take up a position in an audience at a Mimetic performance, Loves the spectacle of truth, and wants the whole of wisdom, not apart. The do not desires beautiful sights and sounds, but seizing the nature of the beautiful itself. She exemplifies what a philosopher is, which they seeks the pleasure of the soul, itself by itself, and not those of the body; Living condition, knowledge sought, education, and political responsibilities. • 4. Man the Hunter Revisited Man the Hunter: Revisited In 1966, a group of about fifty anthropologists met in Chicago for a conference that would later known as the Man the Hunter meeting. The meeting contrasted with earlier scholarship and presented a Hollywood approach to the topic of early man, one where our ancestors were strong, powerful, and in control of their environment. Anthropologists Sherwood L. Washburn and C.S. Lancaster (1968), both present at the conference claimed, our intellect, interests, emotions, and basic social life all are evolutionary products of the success of the hunting adaptation . The book Man the Hunter that emerged from the conference forced a re evaluation of human subsistence strategies and the role of the hunter in human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the sexual division of labor was given more attention and there was recognition of the importance of the female contribution given to sustaining early modern human society. As a result of the research, the gatherer female emerged and in many ways surpassed the male hunter as the foundation of early modern human society. The female gatherer trumped the male hunter. Ultimately, the work of the feminist anthropologists was significant because it discredited the male centric theory of the 1960 s, emasculated the role of man, but provided a more balanced and accurate perspective regarding the role of women in early human society. Progressing into the modern era, research has again refocused the academic microscope on the once chastised man the hunter theory. Contrasting with earlier scholarship, Michael P. Richards and Erik Trinkhaus (2009) proved Neanderthals and early modern humans relied on meat and hunting for subsistence. They did so through comparative isotopic analysis of nitrogen and carbon isotope values to compare protein consumption between early modern humans, Neanderthals, and local fauna. For example, the Oase 1 (the oldest directly dated modern human in Europe) has a nitrogen level that is 10.8% higher than the ibex and 8.0% higher than the red deer. ... • 5. Myers and Briggs Personality Tests Essay Myers and Briggs Analysis The Myers and Briggs Analysis is a series of questions that when answered are examined and grouped together in order to determine the personalities of those taking this test. This particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use your senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are judgmental or perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities and help us to determine which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our personality traits and abilities to work well with others, which is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do find my values to be important to me, but I am not one to push my values onto others because I would never ask someone to believe in or do something they did not agree with. Overall this analysis of my personality seems to be pretty accurate with a few traits from the ISFP category as well. Myers and Briggs created a personality test that not only will help people to figure out their personality types, but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which career pathways people should take based on their specific personality traits. Based on the personality trait INFP that was given to me from the Myer Briggs test I have quite a few career pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career choices suited to my personality is a writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist, musician, or a religious worker; which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad selection of careers that would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have chosen; which is to become a physical therapist, but if I was not set on a goal some of these career ideas would not seem too bad. While reading the list of jobs suited for my personality I was surprised to see that psychologist was on the list because before I decided to go for physical therapy I wanted to pursue a career in that exact field. As for most of the other fields mentioned above I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Bullying And Mass Violence With sound, scholarly evidence, Newman argues that a majority of school shootings are caused due to the surroundings of the shooter. Therefore, she examines the connections of the individual shooters and takes a deeper look at their culture and communities. She finds that overall, fifty three percent were called names, fourteen percent were threatened and five percent were physically hurt , and gained the knowledge that out of many incidents of school shootings, sixty three percent of the cases were triggered by bullying (Newman 504). There has been a growing body of research that link a strong relationship between bullying and mass violence. • 7. African American Civil War And The Period Of Reconstruction After the Civil War and the period of Reconstruction there were many political, social and economic changes which continued to affect the society. The role of African Americans in society changed after the abolishment of slavery. This new freedom and opportunities were not much greater than before when slavery existed. Despite reconstruction efforts, African Americans faced discrimination. Society as a whole was altered extensively at this time. After the civil war, political changes affected African American lives significantly. African Americans were freed of slavery by the 13th amendment and the 14th amendment guaranteed their citizenship, Everyone born or naturalized in the US were granted citizenship and were equal under the law (Doc 1). After about 250 years of slavery, African Americans were finally free of slavery (Johnson, 2000). Though they were free, they had nowhere to go and no money to spend, They were sent away empty handed, without money, without friends, and without a foot of land to stand upon (Doc 2). Former owners used their power to place limitations on emancipation. The former slaves had to end up working for their former masters and borrowing land/money from them. As many people disagreed with the decision of the 13th amendment, many hate groups started to appear. Most commonly known group was the KKK founded Tennessee, 1865 ( Ku Klux Klan, n.d.). • 9. Revised Order Of The Sacraments Of Initiation Revised Order of the Sacraments of Initiation Bishop Álvaro Corrada said, The sacraments draw humanity into the truth and love of God revealed in Christ, thereby disposing the faithful to live this love more deeply in their daily lives of Christian freedom and witness. They serve to introduce us into the Catholic Church, increase our understanding of our religion, bestow upon us essential Christian virtues, and strengthen our faith. There are seven sacraments in total: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage. The first three Sacraments listed are the Sacraments of Initiation. The Sacraments of Christian Initiation Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist lay the foundations of every Christian life...By means of these Sacraments of Christian Initiation, [we] thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity. (CCC Chapter 1, Article 2:1212) These sacraments represent our birth into the Church, the seal of our birth into the Church, and the reception of Jesus body. In the words of the Catholic Church, The Christian is born anew by Baptism, strengthened by Confirmation, and receives in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. • 10. Essay On Feral Cat Mitigation Feral Cat Mitigation Efforts: TNR and More With feral cats posing ecological and public health threats, many different techniques, reflecting a range of moral and ethical values, have been proposed and implemented. TNR is considered one of the most humane methods, but other methods that exist include euthanasia, trap and eradication, and more intensive versions of TNR that include vaccinations and rehabilitations. These methods vary in their effectiveness, practicality, cost and social acceptance. Additionally, differences in how people perceive animals and their intrinsic value, have made feral cat mitigation efforts an extremely charged topic for animal welfare advocates, policy makers, conservationists and pet owners. When analyzing methods, it s important to evaluate what their goals are in terms of managing feral cat populations, state their ethical and moral perspective, and determine their effectiveness. Additionally, their impact on cat behavior will be explored using evidence from a variety of related studies, which will serve to assist in judging the effectivity of the population control method. The method for controlling feral cat populations that is focused on in this paper is TNR, which stands for Trap Neuter Release (though, for clarity, the term neuter refers to sterilization of both male and female cats). This method is extremely popular around the world due to the fact that it is considered extremely humane; rejecting the idea that healthy feral cats ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Petrarch s Influence On Christianity Two humanist ideas that defined the age of the Renaissance were the idea that man could achieve and leaning away from the Christian world view. The enforcement of the idea that man could achieve led people to valuing their strengths more than they did before. Leaning away from the Christian world view let people experience a different type of lifestyle. Upholding the humanistic concept of man could achieve enabled the citizens of Europe to hold their abilities to higher standards, leading to achievement. In The Ascent of Mount Ventoux, Petrarch wrote about his ascent of the highest mountain in his region. By pushing himself both physically and mentally to reach the peak, Petrarch proved what he could truly achieve, only to see the view. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Ascent of Mount Ventoux , Petrarch mentioned that the main reason behind his ascent was only to see the view from the highest peak. This exhibited the leaning away from Christian reasoning by showing that Petrarch did not do everything to deepen his Christian faith, but for his own self exploration. In Primavera , Botticelli displayed figures from Roman mythology, such as Venus and the Three Graces. This showed that incorporating not only Christian figures into art, but ones from the Greco Roman culture actually helped people advance in society, like Botticelli did. In The Prince , Machiavelli said that the proper prince s actions should not be restricted by moral considerations. Machiavelli proved that by doing what is necessary, a prince could be more successful than if he were to follow the Christian morals that were deemed so high during the Middle Ages. The idea that Europeans could wean themselves from following every Christian moral consideration helped the advancement of society because now people were able to branch out into doing things that previously would have seemed ... • 13. The Importance Of A Connection And Understanding The... Medication has created descriptive groups in those who misuse the medication or who are addicted. However, it is important to analysis a person individually instead of grouping them in the immoral bubble. In this interview, the importance of creating a connection and understanding the individual lifestyle with their opinions they created for themselves must be respected. In order for me to be at par with my interviewee in not claiming or accusing of immorality in his consumption of medication, I limited my biased views and instead asked questions that created my interviewee, will be known as GE, to continue explaining. GE has been using a large consumption of Advil in his for his constant dental discomforts, hangovers, headaches, and in general any pain. Through various amounts of questions, I learned about the trust GE has in Advil due to his loyalty to the medication. He has not tried other pain relieving treatments for the reason he has not had any problems with his current medication. His trust has lead him to feel safe when he neglects in several occasions the recommended dosage. He is able to intake another pill without feeling endanger. I found it surprising how his trust tempers with the indulgent of consumption and never from curiosity to discover risks of increasing of dosages. However, his trust to Advil has given him the ability to experiment with the intake of Advil. By using the two sources from Paul B. Preciado and Clara Han readings, I am able to depict for ... People began to realize that nothing was being achieved when religion was the only answer to anything and realised that you can have a good life before death. This resulted in a new lifestyle for civilians and a happier life. The fight for who was the cause of the greatest effect of the Scientific Revolution is an ongoing debate. Today I will be breaking down many people who put their foot forwards in a time of need and seeing who was the greatest. They will be put into a bracket starting with eight people on each side and within four tiers of battles (tier one being the first round of battles and tier four being the championship or fight for who had the biggest impact on The Scientific Revolution) there will be announced a winner. In the first clash of philosophers in the first tier we have Francis Bacon versus Robert Boyle. These two were matched together because of their involvement in early science. Francis Bacon was the developer of the Scientific Method, which is one of the most commonly used ways to figure anything out. Robert Boyle helped advance some things, but my verdict is that overall Francis Bacon was more successful in long term advancements so he wins. The next matchup of the first tier is Robert Hooke versus Joseph Priestly. They were matched together because of their significance of their discoveries, and how they ... His parents ran and owned a grocery store in Indianapolis, Indiana, and at the age of three his mother died . John Dillinger s father described his son as a restless and aggressive child . Beginning from a young age, the dark side of Dillinger became evident, as he created and led a gang called The Dirty Dozen . The worst criminal act the Dirty Dozen participated in consisted of stealing coal from the nearby railroad . As Dillinger grew older, so did the intensity of his crimes. In his teenage years Dillinger stole a car to impress a girl, and when caught he fled to the navy. According to John he was discharged from the navy, but records say he ... Soviet Union Research Paper COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION To understand why unlike the Soviet Union s political system, China s is not near collapse, one must first understand why and how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) collapsed, resulting in the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. After the October Revolution, the CPSU adopted Leninism as the main party ideology, and moved swiftly to adopt socialist changes. However, as Lenin s health declined, his main supporters, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, began fighting amongst themselves. Stalin won, forcing Trotsky into exile, and after Lenin s death, began implementing a series of policies known as Stalinism to solidify his totalitarian rule. Leonid Brezhnev, who took power after Khrushchev, attempted to reinstate Stalinism back into the Soviet Union. His reign created the neo Stalinist period in Russia, albeit with a series of economic reforms that favored light industries and the production of consumer goods than heavy industry. Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations, attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited with the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and international affairs. Following Brezhnev was Yuri Andropov, a reformist who, during his short time as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, pushed for more freedom in media and appointed several other reformers into key positions in the CPSU. Konstantin Chernenko, who took power against Andropov s wishes following his demise, attempted to shift back into the Brezhnev era policies, while also promoting reforms in education and the role of labor unions. However, poor health prevented him from properly implementing policies, and de facto power remained with reformer Mikhail Gorbachev. By this point, the constant fighting between reformists and Stalinists, together with conflicting and ineffective policies, had severely damaged the Soviet economy, as well as deteriorated international relations, escalating the Cold War, and slowly worsened socioeconomic and political tensions within ... The virus remains within the individual and in one third of cases will reactivate causing Shingles or Herpes Zoster (HZ). VZV only infects humans and is a double stranded DNA of the herpesvirus group. (Leung 343). VZV has been in existence for centuries, yet it wasn t until the late 19th century that it was more closely examined. First, the observation was made that Varicella was not a mild form of smallpox but another virus that was characteristically similar. In 1888, von Bokoy made a connection between that of Varicella and HZ. He observed children, without prior Varicella immunity, become exposed to HZ and, as a result, developed a primary Varicella ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One idea worth investigating is the process in which T cells, whose purpose is to protect the body against viral infections, become infected. Dendritic cells communicate with T cells in regards to what action is necessary to fight off antigens. When the dendritic cells become infected, T cells will not initiate a response to defend the body against VZV. Perhaps the most compelling argument as to the severity of infection in adults is the involution of the Thymus, which occurs at the onset of puberty. This may play a major role in the adult body s ability to control the infection. Furthermore, dendritic cells of skin, if infected, can in fact inhibit immune responses in the skin, which may cause a more severe infection (Abendroth; Padiatr). Next, what is the cause of reactivation of VZV as HZ? Much has been speculated that an increase of age as well as a decrease in immunity is the cause of reactivation. This could be further elaborated on by examining the possibility of necroptosis within the Peripheral Nervous System. This mechanism serves as a signal for T Cells to attack the latent VZV. Since the virus can inhibit apoptosis, but not necroptosis, this signaling may initiate the virus s defense mechanism to begin replication. In order for T Cells to attack the virus, the cells must first destroy Satellite cells which surround the infected nerves. Damage to these cells as well as ganglionic neural cells causes the severe pain associated with Herpes Zoster (Steain). Finally, what are some of the negative aspects of the Varicella vaccination? Although the vaccination is effective in preventing a person from contracting VZV, it is possible for immunization to wear off. In this case, a person who believes he or she is immune to the virus could contract it. With only a single dose of the Varicella vaccine, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story is about a legend of a pirates treasure hidden in a swamp and how a miserly man named Tom Walker finds it on his way home through a swamp. When Tom is in the swamp a dark tall man, Old Scratch, who Tom recognizes as the Devil, offers Tom a deal for the treasure. Tom goes home and tells his wife about the deal the Devil gave him, her greedy made her to take all their valuable possessions and go bargain with the Devil for the treasure. When she didn t return Tom Walker decided to go look for his wife. When Tom was looking for her, he found her apron, liver, and her heart tied up to a tree. After seeing this Tom decided to make the deal with the Devil. The Devil tells Tom that he must do services to the devil for the treasure. He first tells Tom to become a slaver trader; however Tom refuses to become one. Finally the Devil tells Tom to become a corrupted money loaner, which he agrees to, so he moves to Boston and becomes a moneylender. While at Boston Tom regrets doing the deal with the Devil and tries going to zealous church in a hope to redeem his soul for what has he done; however it was too late for Tom Walker. One afternoon while Tom s victims were begging him for a delay, Tom lost his patience and his pity and yelled The Devil take me... if I have made a farthing! (Irving, The Devil and Tom Walker). Immediately after this statement Tom hears three knocks on his door and the Devil comes for Tom and rides away with him on his horse. The next day Tom s house and all his belongings are burnt down, and Tom is never seen ever again. In this story we can see many interesting facts about the main character Tom Walker such as his relations with other characters and his own beliefs. In the story we can see how Tom doesn t accept the deal with the Devil at first, but when his wife dies in hands of the Devil, Tom Walker now accepts to do the deal; however he doesn t accept because he feels like he has lost everything but because now his wife can t take away any part of the treasure and now he will do the things he wants for his own good and not to please ... A quote stated by Susan Pease Banitt once said, PTSD is a whole body tragedy, an integral human event of enormous proportions with massive repercussions . Veterans returning from war should be able to overcome post traumatic stress disorder by going to health professionals or getting help with counseling. What is PTSD? Post traumatic stress disorder is a life threatening exposure in which an individual experiences a flashback to a traumatic event, such as war. Combat often substantially affects the soldier s minds, but post traumatic stress disorder can follow after a personal assault too (Wiley, 875). Post traumatic stress disorder develops in response to a traumatic event. About 60% of men and 50% of women experience a traumatic event in their lifetime. For most people they will have the symptoms of PTSD for about days or weeks after the event happened, but for others the symptoms are way more sever and long lasting. The reasons on why some people develop this disorder are still being studied though (Candy, 243). PTSD is more common in at risk groups than as those serving in combat, but that doesn t mean that people that serve as combat are less likely to get PTSD. At least 30% of men and women who served in Vietnam experience post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD begins usually after a traumatic event but it can also be delayed for many years. Most of the symptoms can improve gradually after a year but for some the symptoms can last a lifetime (Blow et. al. 266). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus, 2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Once war broke out, Corinth became allied with Sparta, and Corcyra became an ally of Athens following a debate over Corcyra[3]. Also if we need anything huge it takes out a lot of my energy so we would need to wait for my energy to replenish. Chamelo said. Okay then, can you morph into a huge boat 2654 years from now? He asked. Yes, give me a few minutes It said. A few minutes later the Chameleon, like he said, slowly turned into a huge metal ship with things called motors and electronics. After being amazed, they went on and ran through it with amazement. This here is something called a cruise ship, it is used for people to safely travel through the seas with great fun in the 2000 s, and I am talking to you through things called speakers. Chamelo said This is amazing! he exclaimed I know, let s get started. First twist those 2 keys until you hear a rumble Okay, done Next move the 2 sticks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Optimization Of Processing Parameters By Using Taguchi Method An Overview of Optimization of Processing Parameters by Using Taguchi Method Iqra Najib (2013 PE 16) Mommna Munawar (2013 PE ) Email: usmannajib942@gmail.com Department of Polymer and process Engineering University of Engineering and Technology Abstract Taguchi method is used to find best process parameters and improved quality results. Taguchi technique/method investigates the variation in experiments and generally approach of system, acceptance aims and parameters have been significant in improving product quality worldwide. Highest possible performance in this method is obtained by determining the optimum combination of design factors. The present work focused by using orthogonal arrays (OA) and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Orthogonal arrays are used to get optimal values with the effect of graphs and analysis of variance was employed to investigate the characteristics and experimental results provided the effectiveness of this approach. This technique has improved quality of design and shorten the design cycle. Keywords: Taguchi method, orthogonal array, Analysis of variance, S/N ratio, warpage and sink marks. Introduction Taguchi method is the statistical technique used to study the or developed to enhance the quality of manufacturing goods and more recently applied to many fields like biotechnology, advertising, marketing and engineering. Professional statisticians have welcomed the goals and improvements bought by this method and also we can study variations in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Examples Of Mixed Race In Chesnutt In the novel, Chesnutt uses mixed race characters, which have both black and white ancestors and these characters display the conflicts between black and white societies. Within the novel, Janet Miller is the best example of a mixed race character. Janet s father was from the white aristocracy, while her mother was a slave and a servant. Janet is emotionally hurt because she doesn t receive the same affection like white half sister. She views herself as black and submits to the segregation of the time. In comparison to societal views, Olivia Carteret also cannot view her sister as an equal which is incredibly sad. Janet s angry compassion for her white sister sets the novel s climax and represents hope for equality between the races. The Millers are well educated and were brought up in the white world where they exclude themselves from the poor and uneducated members within the society. However, the whites within society do not welcome them due to their race because they think that Africans lack sense of purity. When exploring the complexity of mixed races in the South Chesnutt describes, looking at these two men with the American eye, the differences would perhaps be the more striking, or at least the more immediately apparent, for the first was white and the second black, or, more correctly speaking, brown...but both his swarthy complexion and his curly hair revealed what has been described in the laws of some of our states as a visible admixture of African blood ... • 38. Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency, decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Internet Censorship in China Essay In the United States, every child, teenager and adult uses Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook, among numerous other sites, regularly. The internet is open and uncensored for the most part, other than parental controls. In China, most, if not all of those types of sites are or have been blocked. As in, you could not go to them, unless you found some way around the web filters and firewalls the Chinese government runs in their country. While China defends their practice of internet censorship, based on protecting the people, heavy internet censorship is a block to free speech and impedes economic and social development in the 21st century. China says it has its reasons for censoring its internet. Wang Chen, minister for the State Council ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them face to face with their censors or their agents. (Anonymous) Reporters without Boarders further talked of why these regulations present a new block for free speech. What Netizen will dare to criticize the regime after meeting the person who could put them behind bars for one wrong word? (Anonymous) Reporters Without Borders is further stating that someone who might talk about something the government might find questionable will not do it at all if that person is met by someone who could put them in prison. On the other hand, the US does not actively regulate the internet, relying on the public to regulate content on the internet, with little government intervention. The internet in the US is relatively open, whereas in China, information on the internet is suppressed based on what the Chinese government deems appropriate or inappropriate. Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has stated, Countries that heavily censor the Net are creating a new Information Curtain to rival the old Iron Curtain of the Cold War era. (Anderson) Clinton talked more of the US s position on internet censorship. Further, New technologies do not take sides, said Clinton. But the United States does. The US supports an open internet. (Anderson) Corporations that move into China have long recognized that internet censorship is a fact of life. In 2006, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
