Effect of Asean Economic Integration
ASEAN: The integration effect

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is gradually bringing the region s economies closer
together. Private equity investors stand to benefit but not all businesses are suited to cross border
expansion
The trouble hit euro zone is hardly a poster child for regional economic integration, but it has yet to
dent similar single market efforts underway in Southeast Asia.
Although the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been around for 45 years, it is
only in the last half decade that policies have been put in place to bring the 10 member economies

There is no turning back. It s not just policymakers agreeing on pie in the sky issues; there is a real
demand in the business community to get it right.
Since the region s ninth summit in 2003, when the concept of an ASEAN Community was first
endorsed, GDP has risen from $722 billion to $1.8 trillion in 2010, while GDP per capita more
than doubled to $3,100. Trade also rose twofold to $2.1 trillion, one quarter of which is intra
ASEAN trade. Over the same period, China leapfrogged the US and Japan to become ASEAN s
largest trading partner, accounting for $232 billion in imports and exports in 2010, or 11.3% of the
region s total.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows rose from $24.5 billion in 2003 to $76.2 billion in 2010.
Intra ASEAN capital flows have increased more than fourfold, accounting for 16.1% of the
regional total in 2010 compared to 11.1% seven years ago. Only the EU contributes more.
It is a matter of debate as to who has benefited most from these developments. We have seen
multinationals take advantage of the FTA, but the problem is small and medium sized enterprises
(SMEs) don t have the manpower and resources to do the same, says Sanchita Basu Das, lead
researcher for economic affairs at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) ASEAN Studies
Center in Singapore. Around 90% of firms in the region still fall into this category.

myself a protector is because I m extremely aware of my personal feelings but tend to keep them
to myself. I find it very hard to express the way I feel to someone because of past experiences,
therefore, it s easier for me to keep all my personal things inside. Because of all these reason

Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Essay
Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music
Zeitgeist, a German term often attributed to philosopher Georg Hegel (1770 1831), literally means
the spirit of the time. Zeitgeist is founded upon the understanding that a dominant school of thought
be it political, social, philosophical, or other influences the culture of a specific period in time and
that the art and thinking of that period influence one another. Zeitgeist presumes that culture and art
are therefore faithfully united, since an artist is the product of his or her time.
This semester, in comparing works of visual art and opera and particularly between works of the
same time period, many parallels emerge. But beyond the scope of individual time periods (e.g., ...

There is something very human and clearly very comfortable in these figures, which artists and
society throughout the centuries deeply cherish. Whatever that might be, the medium of art itself
has been strong enough to carry through history these most famous figures of the human race and
make them present and relevant to individuals from vastly diverse times.
Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr, which is somebody who is killed for his
or her faith. The Catholic Church acknowledges a great number of martyrs and individuals it
deems representative of a Christ inspired life and marks them by sainthood. Sebastian was said to
have been killed during Roman emperor Diocletian s great persecution of Christians.
Diocletian (Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus) was Roman emperor from 284 to
305. He was deeply loathed and regarded as the embodiment of irrational ferocity by Henry
Chadwick, a prominent British theologian and historian who died in 2008. It was during
Diocletian s bloodbath Great Persecution of Christians that there were alleged to have been as
many as 17000 martyrs within a single 30 day period, which begat the expression Era of the
Martyrs, or more commonly, the Diocletian Era. Historians looking back and researching Diocletian
have determined that perhaps some of the stories of Christian martyrdom from the Diocletian era
had been exaggerated or embellished

Mikhael Gorbachev Dbq Analysis
What came with the selection of Mikhael Gorbachev as the new Soviet Leader for the USSR
was the start of the turning point in the Cold War. This was as well met by the likes of Ronald
Reagan, who at first carried an anti communist rhetoric, progressively displaced his initial feeling
for the Soviet Union and begun to change his perceptions of his foes to the east. A compromising
negotiation was the overall goal of Gorbachev, which would hope to lead to reduce the risk of
nuclear war. Very different from his predecessors, Gorbachev resiliently worked with Reagan in
order to successfully come to peaceful relations. Although Ronald Regan had a role in the changing
dynamics of the cold warthat had taken place, more of the accolades must go to Mikhail Gorbachev
as he played a greater role in the improved relations between the USSR and the United States of
America. Due to Gorbachev s revolutionary new thinking, Reagan s reluctance but eventual actions

to exploit the misfortunes of others. By ridding Soviet support of the Afghan war, it also helps
support the ideals of the disarmament and negotiations related to the elimination of intermediate
and short range missiles. He closes by saying that states have sufficient reserves of responsibility,
political will and determination to put an end to regional conflict (Doc 82, pg. 448). Outlining the
importance of reform within the afghan war, it shows strong similarities of the changing reform

Character Development In Macbeth By William Shakespeare
There are many constants among great tragedies, internal/external conflict, plot development, a
problem, but one of the most important aspects to a tragedy is the development of the main
character, typically from better to worse. For a story to develop and become more interesting as it
goes, the character s personalities must evolve and develop simultaneously. Without this crucial
aspect, readers could not become attached or interested in characters and the issues they face, since
they would never change. Just as in life, the development in personality is vital to keeping the
relationship between reader and characterinteresting. In William Shakespeares Macbeth,
Shakespeare uses various language and diction devices to display an evolution... Show more content

All aspects of nobility, honesty, and valiance that were once parts of Macbeths personality, had
left him for good. Macbeths thirst for power grows out of control, he gets himself so deep in a
hole of repeated murders, acts of treason, and personal betrayals, that Macbeth becomes resented
and vilified by all, regarded as a ruthless tyrant. With the many ruthless acts Macbeth had
committed; the killing of his King, the killing of Banquo, as well as the attempted killing of
Banquo s son, Fleance, Macbeth finds himself becoming more paranoid of who the next enemy
might be. Macbeth orders another senseless act out of paranoia and ruthlessness in Act IV, What,
you egg? Young fry of treachery! He has killed me mother. (4.2.94 97) Macbeth had hired
murderers to kill the family of Macduff, someone he fears may be plotting to resist him as king.
By this point in the play, Macbeth had become a tyrant, who, in trying to kill him resisters, ended
up created more of them. With Macbeth growing more ruthless and more tyrannical, he began to
lose touch with the things he once cares about the most, the biggest being his wife, Lady
Macbeth. She should have died hereafter there would have been a time for such a word tomorrow,

A Rose For Emily Modernism
Throughout the short story A Rose for Emily , by William Faulkner, the new generation tries to
enforce modern standards on Miss Emily and her contemporaries. Despite their best efforts, the
older generation remains cemented in traditional values. The older generation faces a slow, tragic,
rotting death similar to Miss Emily s if they continue to adhere to tradition in a modern age.
Miss Emily is a contemporary of the older generation and her refusal to pay taxes demonstrates
how the adherence to tradition in the face of modern change leads to a slow death. The older
generation and by extension Miss Emily refuse to conform to modern standards because they are
bound by history and tradition. Social rank and and status heavily influence ... Show more content

Her entire life has been based on southern tradition implemented by the old generation, all of her
decisions in life have been made in order to correctly conform to that tradition. If she conforms
to modern standards, she loses all of the power and respect that was entitled to her. So, she does
not conform, she gets rid of the new generation in order to keep herself sequested away from
modern change. She protects herself from them so she can continue to live in denial that any
change is necessary. For Miss Emily modern chage is unwanted and tradition is used to justify
her denial. Miss Emily allows southern tradition to fester within herself, She looked bloated,
like a body long submerged in motionless water, and of that pallied hue (220). She is barely
living. Miss Emily no longer ventures outside, she is a walking corpse dwelling within a
mousoleum structured to keep her rooted in southern tradition. She may have died of natural
causes but it was not free of suffering. Miss Emily was slowly dying because she sequested
heself away from any modern changes like paying her taxes. She cut herself off from the rest of
the world in order to conform to tradition. Miss Emily s slow march towards death is the same
march the older generation faces. Just as Miss Emily refuses to give up her status and entitlement
so do the older generation. Modern laws will be establish to blur the lines

Organization Behavior Essay
Organization Behavior In order to better understand the concepts of organizational behavior, several
key terms need to be defined and explained. Some of these key terms include organizational
behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and
efficiency, and organizational learning. To get a better understanding of each of these terms,
examples will be given for each term as it applies to National Gypsum Company. Organizational
behavior is defined as the study of individuals and groups in organizations. (Schermerhorn, 2005)

These are put into place by the organization or started and passed along by the employees.
National Gypsum has put several of these elements in place to create the organizational culture.
The organization has shared values by following the vision and value statements put out by the
organization. The organization also uses symbols in the bundling tape that is put on the end of
every board. This tape is bright in color and has the company name and logo on it. The
employees have many stories to tell of adventures at National Gypsum, and those employees that
were around in the early 80 s, when the company went through several different owners have
many stories and myths. A ritual that is common at the plant level each month is the shift sits
down to have lunch together and safety is usually talked about at this lunch. Diversity is defined
as a different kind; a variety. (Abate, 1998) When looking at the diverse world that we live in
today many differences in every day people are seen, such as race, religion, ethics, morals, age,
background, life and work experience, politics, financial, and education. At first glance it would
seem that a diverse workforce may be harmful to the organization because the diverse group
would not be able to get along or understand each other due to their differences. Having a diverse
workforce is a plus for the organization because the differences in the people will allow them to

From the beginning of time, starting with the hunting and gathering societies, technology always
existed. Granted it was a lot different than the technology created in the industrial time period and
light years away from the technology we have today. It is human nature to seek out ways to do
things better, easier, faster, and that s where curiosity is tied in. According to Gerhard and Jean

There is huge jump from these feudal societies to industrial societies. All of a sudden there are
assembly lines, steam engines, cotton gins, textiles, and 100,000 work units compared to 100

little pay. Children could work and get paid a lot less than adults. The union was developed to try
get employees the rights they deserved, stop child labor, and gain some security in their jobs.
Working in factories on an assembly line began to make workers de skilled and replaceable.
Productivity flew through the roof though with all the new machines and growing technology. In
industrial societies, the five institutions started to change more drastically than in past societies.
Family life became fragmented because there was less communication. The children went to
school and the parents worked. Another thing that changed in the family was that people lived
with their nuclear, or immediate family instead of being surrounded by family like in past
societies. Education was no longer only for the elite who could afford it. Schools were formed and
there was an organized system with teachers. There was a lot of confusion, or anomie, when it came
to religion, because there was more diversity and arguments. The Catholic religion was being
challenged by science and Protestants as well. The government went through some major changes

Free Trade Vs Fair Trade
Introduction
Adam Smith, author of The Wealth of Nations, shows support for free trade and emphasises it as a
trade policy which ought to be adopted. Krugman and Obstfeld back Smith s support by stating that
the efficiency of trade is increased by free trade and accumulates the national income of countries.
Free trade is a theory which suggests that each nation benefits in specialising in an economic
activity from which it gains absolute advantage, enjoying absolute superiority over other nations in
a specif economical activity (Peng). With free trade follows opportunity, replacing regulation and
growth of economic activity. (Rugmann and Collinson).

McDonald and Burton clarify that infant industries can feel supported into growth (and sometimes
beyond) by the trade policy of protectionism and tariff barriers. This form of strategic
protectionism enables industries seeking to grow to enjoy the benefits of first mover advantages,
a concept of specialising in producing and exporting only those goods and services which it can
produce more efficiently (Investopedia) and the benefits of economies of scales. A prime example
of this is Amazon, the first online bookstore. By gaining the first mover advantage into the markets,
it has gained and maintained dominance over many firms. Firms have adopted the concepts and
practices such as retailers like Barnes and Nobles. Professer Marvin Lieberman and David
Montgomery, Stanford University, conclude that first mover advantage can be gained from
technology leadership, control of resources and buyer switching costs after gaining the opportunity
to access the pioneering stage of a concept.
Free Trading Areas
Free trade areas, FTA, are economic integration arrangements in which barriers to trade (e.g.
tariffs), exchange of goods and information among member nations are removed. It is arguable to
say that fair trade aims to create equilibrium between LEDC s, less economically developed
countries and developed nations in terms of trading activities and ethics. In saying this, free trading
between more economically developed countries and LEDC s will mean

Misogynistic Social Roles In Jane Austen s Pride And...
The novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen depicts the endeavours of two sisters finding lovers
in the late 18th century. Austen s novel takes place during the turning of the 19th century in
Regency England, an age in which societal status is of the utmost importance and each individual
is ranked based on their family name, wealth, and education. This common ideal of the time
period is detrimental to the livelihood of the sisters and the probability of them marrying the men
that they truly love. The novel portrays this common prejudice among the social classes,
specifically when Mrs Bennet insists that her daughter marry a man in order to keep their estate,
Mr. Darcy s initial dismissal of Elizabeth due to her class, and Miss Bingley s manipulation of her
brother in order to maintain their families immaculate reputation. The Bennet household consists of
Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet, and their five daughters. As the story begins to unfold, it is revealed that
Mr. Bennet s property is entailed, meaning that when he passes, nothing of his will be left to his
wife or daughters, but will be directly inherited by the closest male relative. In revealing this detail,
Austen illustrates the misogynistic social view of the time period which implies that only men
should be held responsible for finances. Due to this circumstance, Mrs. Bennet finds herself
frantically searching for suitors for her daughters while solely considering their wealth. In Jane s
case, she is fortunate enough

He based his research on what was he called the real and behavioural triggers of the 2008
financial crisis. He then went on to say that the real triggers of the crisis had to do with the
systematic environment of high leverage in the financial markets, corporate and household sectors
and the international nature of finance and banks balance sheets. He classified the
underestimation of risk by almost all agents in the economy as a behavioural trigger to the crisis.
He specified on the underestimation of risk in the newly issued assets and also in the corporate
sector leverage that began in the 21st century. According to him, new and complex derivatives
instruments were not mostly regulated before the crisis of 2008, which he suggested could have
been the trigger to the crisis. He concluded that some of the triggers like the behavioural trigger
could only be incorporated into the new bank regulations as they would not change.
Another study carried out by Shiu Yung Ming et. al. (2005), examined the determinants and the
impact of derivative usage on bank risk. In their study, they said derivatives had proved to be an
efficient tool in the management of risk as it was an easy instrument for which residual risk from

First Triumvirate Essay
Cassus, Pompey, and Caesar all got together and made the first triumvirate because they all had
claims to the throne, and splitting power equally solved many disputes. However, the First
Triumvirate worked mostly behind the scenes. Crassus and Pompey both died, leaving Caesar in
charge of all of the Roman Empire. After Caesar was assassinated, Pompey and Cassus were both
sent to war and killed abroad. The Second Triumvirate was made of Octavian, Marc Antony, and
Lepidus. These three men were pretty much emperors and were given highest power. Marc Antony
fell in love with Cleopatra VII, and he moved to Alexandria to be with her. The Triumvirate then
split the Roman Empire into three: Octavian took the West, Antony took the East, and Lepidus

Essay Two Not many offices were held by the lower Roman class, the plebians. Most higher
offices were held by the patricians, or the aristocrats. Several offices were open to the plebs,
however. Tribunes were officials elected to represent the plebians under the magistrates. The
office of aedile (the person who maintained public buildings and organized festivals) was also an
option. A pleb could also become a praetor (a general and mayor rolled into one) or a quaestor (a
financial supervisor). However, you couldn t just be elected into any given office with no
experience. The cursus honorum was a system that allowed you to advance through the ranks, kind
of like how American presidents are usually governors, then senators, and then elected president.
However, success could be dangerous in Roman politics. The Gracchi were two brothers who were
both elected to be tribunes, and they tried to pass legislation to take wrongfully acquired land from
the patricians, and put it back in the hands of the original plebian owners. Both brothers were
assassinated for their

Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing...
In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more
underlying assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation,
to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a
contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the
underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the
outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence,
numerical methods are needed for pricing optionsin cases where analytic solutions are either
unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods
were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference
methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the
option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option
value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This
approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method
to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on
risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths
for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This
approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would
be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3]
Valuation of Options)
Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and
consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed.

Moral Relativism
Different cultures view ethics in different ways. I think that moral relativism should be viewed
the same way all across the world. Some cultures praise the wrong doing of their people and
celebrate their behavior whether it is wrong or right. Other cultures, will shun a group or
individual if he/she was doing something unethical. As a society, America tends to judge an action
before we hear the story or background of the person. Our country is a prime example of how
moral relativismapplies to everyday actions. If someone is committing a crime, the individual will
be sentenced and punished if necessary. However in other countries, an individual that has done
wrong may go free. For example, the incident that happened in
Tunis, Tunsania, now has a video created on the people that committed the acts. In American
culture, the people that committed the crime would have been caught, tried and sent to jail. In
some cultures, what one deems as unethical, may be another society s norm. Take abortion as an
example, we as Americans may view a mother having an abortion as a wrongful act , but in some ...

Extreme in the Mohave dessert

people who took an extreme measure. My decision moved to Nevada was made in two weeks

Exempt Employees
There are three main factors that Amy should use to determine whether Jane and her fellow shift
workers are exempt or non exempt. The first element is the salary criteria for the employees
(Vogel et al., 2007). All the states in the United States are covered under the FLSA guidelines and
should compensate the employees accordingly to avoid any possible disputes arising from
employee suing the business for mistreatment. The Non exempt personnel must be rewarded for
the hours they work overtime; the normal working hours for these employees are forty hours in a
week. The exempt employees, on the other hand, are not eligible for payments of any overtime
unless they have an individual agreement with the company. If an employee is salaried by the
company does not mean that they are exempted. The personnel in the organizations under the

The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States
Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are
at is lowest, but the numbers still remain an issue. Teen parenting has been associated with negative
outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of
the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified,
teen pregnancyprevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of
prevention will help strengthen families and promote healthy development in the future. Evidence
based teen pregnancy programs, parent involvement, and community involvement need to be
implemented to help decrease teen pregnancies and rates and sexual risk behaviors; a
comprehensive approach would be the most beneficial for youth.
Over the last two decades teen birth rates have declined, however the rates of teen births remain to
be higher in the United States than any other developed county. Teen birth rate is the number of
births per 1,000 mother s ages 15 to 19 years old. Teen parenting has been associated with many
negative outcomes for teen parents and their children. Low rates of maternal education, low
incomes, single parenthood, and subsequent births are some of the negative outcomes for teen
parents. Children of teen parents also have negative outcomes associated with poor school

Rhetorical Analysis Of Waiting For Superman
As a parent, you want the best for your child in life. What would you do if their entire future was

was made in 2010 and created controversy among educators and parents everywhere. The director

Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian.
Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap.
The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo
who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello.
His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s
weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes
and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello
sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job
back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for
help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that
Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle
the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like
that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and
when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into
Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back.
The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the
stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act
4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of
a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an
unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to
get rid of it entirely. Iago tell Othello that killing Desdemona is the answer. Othello lost in self pity
and no reasoning left in his mind, agrees. Othello tells Iago, he will kill Desdemona and he
desposes Cassio. Iago s plan works and in the end, Othello and Desdemona die.
Iago s character is brilliant. Manipulation is a huge part of

Why Is Noah s Ark Possible
Was Noah s Ark Possible?
In today s society, many children learn about the story of Noah s ark during their childhood.
This story often leads to a spark of imagination to children trying to imagine all of the animals to be
on one gigantic ark. What may seem like an incredible story in the light of a child s eyes may often
lead to questions on how it was possible as one gets older. This in turn leads to some of the
possibilities of what it would take if Noah s ark were to be possible.
The story of Noah s Ark began when God realized that the ancestors of Adam and Eve had slowly
began to become wicked as the generations grew and in to get rid of this, He would have to dispose
of humans (The Holy Bible New King James Version, 1982). However, there was one individual,...

There was no way for Noah to precisely know what it would take for the boat to survive rough
waves or if it would be large enough to hold every species. Boats were made out of hollow logs,
so there was no one to turn towards to build an ark (Moore, 1983). If there were others that
helped Noah build the ark, they also would have needed a basic understanding of the
requirements to build a boat. Also, Noah would have needed to have known that wood would
not be the best material to make the ark out of because of the possibility of the wood to sag and
rot within the time that he built it (Moore, 1983). Steel, a much more preferred material, was used
for boats this large of size, however steel was not available during this time (Moore, 1983). Since
these tools and materials were not available and the ark needed some sturdiness, God told Noah to
coat the entire ark with pitch, which was a common practice during this time to seal things together

Essay On Timers
The use of counters and timers in PLCs has helped increase the efficiency of manufacturing and
been of great importance. Timers and counters have been used outside plcs for a long time have
shown themselves to be of great help. There use inside plcs has helped reduce space and the many
of the complications of hardwiring. First, let s start out with the Ton timer. Ton timers were first
used in plcs in the slc 500s. For all timers, there are three bits. The enabled bit, timer timing bit, and
the done bit. On a Ton timer, the enable bit activated when there is a path of true conditions
energizing the timer. The timer timing bit is activated when the timer is energized, and the timer is
timing up to the preset. Lastly, the done bit energizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What has changed greatly is when the timer timing and down bits energize and de energize. The
timer timing bit for an TOF timer energizes when the timer loses a path of true conditions. This
can be useful for if this timer is put in parallel with a load and you want a device to run for a set
amount of time after the load has de energized. With there use the allow for the simplifying of a
program and more ease of understanding. Furthermore, the done bit energizes as soon as the timer
energizes. When the timers accumulative value reaches its preset the done bit de energizes
opposite of the TON and the RTO. Next, there are counters and their functions. There are two
types of counters the count up and the count down. Like timers, they have a done bit. It works
exactly the same as it did when used in timers. Unlike timers though counters also have count up
and count down bits. When the counter is energized, depending on which counter is being
activated, the counter will add or deduct one number from the accumulative value. It will only add
one number for each false to true transition. Count up timers can be used to reach a specific
amount of material or objects. Using a count down and a count up timer together in a program with
the same address is very useful. One counter will count during a certain set of conditions up and the

Ryanair
Ryanair The low fares airline: Whither now?
Main Problems
Ryanair s growth rate is affected by macroeconomic factors such as the recession, as seen in 2010
when Ryanair saw a 200% increase in profit and traffic growth, as the low fares became attractive
for those suffering from the current climate. Uncertainty still remains regarding the economic
climate; problems would arise if it continued, as passengers would reduce spending restricting the
company s passenger volume growth. If the economic climate was to grow, business and leisure
passengers may choose to pay more and travel with a full service airline, this could consequently
result in demand for low cost flights to drop.
One of the greatest concerns is fuel prices the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it were to be successful Ryanair would have to change their strategy, as it would not be able to
keep low costs, as passenger on long haul flights would want the additional add ons at no extra

leadership.
Possible Solutions
Ryanair should expand in the EU, by increasing flight frequency and flights expansion especially
in Eastern Europe. One way they can do this is to purchase WizzAir, an airline that already has
major bases and routes in Eastern Europe. This would gain an advantage over competitors such as
easy jet who currently have no bases there, thereby maintaining cost leadership.
Strategic alliances should be put in place so Ryanair can achieve an extensive geographic network,
with bases placed strategically around Europe airports. By consolidating with Norwegian airlines
and creating a strategic partnership, with a percentage in each other s shares would allow for
greater scope and assurance from the unpredictable economic conditions.
Swift market responses need to be made by Ryanair, such as capitalising on the failure of other
European airline by opening new routes on their existing failed ones, this will achieve greater
economics of scale and thus costs fall. Ryanair should continue to look at the many airlines that
have a limited geographic area

Wayne Gretzky Quotes
Wayne Gretzky, a former Canadian ice hockey player and head coach, once said, You miss 100
percent of the shots you never take . This quote makes me look at Gretzky as an audacious and
perilous individual. It is understandable why he abides by this quote because it must have helped
him take chances and become a professional ice hockey player. It must have helped him because
if he did not take any chances, he could have missed out on the opportunity to become a ice
hockey player. This quote refers to a crucial life lesson that people should learn and practice. This
life lesson would be to take chances when you have the opportunity or else you will have already
failed on that opportunity. I acquiesce with this quote because in the book,

An Expected Tragedy Occurred On My Life
July 7th, 2012 an expected tragedy occurred. It s amazing how we take things for granted. We go
throughout our day thinking everything is going to be fine with the plans we made, and don t
think twice about how our plans can be taken away at any moment. I didn t think about it much,
until I was faced with a wake up call, a death of my grandmother. I don t think anybody really
thinks about a misfortune until they are faced with one.
Around 1ish on July 7th, 2012 we were told to come to the hospital because of an emergency with
my grandma. My family and I rushed to get there. In my head I was wondering what was going
on and what was going to happen to her. I was so nervous because it was so unexpected to me
because the other day she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There s also a curtain that s attached to a metal railing on the celling, the can wrap around the
patients bed. In the second part of the room there s two couches. One by the window and one on
the left of the couch by the window. Beside the couch by the window there another small table.
My family and I saw her on her death bed. She was laying down, still alive in her hospital dress
with tubes coming from her body. She couldn t talk and she was so stiff. Her arms were bigger
than they were supposed to be and they were very pale and a bit purple and blue. Her face was very
puffy and pale too. I felt so speechless, gloomy, and sorry. Tears were coming down my face just
seeing her like that. It seemed that they didn t stop coming down from my face. I pulled some
tissues from the tissue box and whipped my tears. As I looked over I saw my mother, sister,
brother, and dad were crying as well.
Then, I overheard the adults saying they tried to give her a liver from a family member but none of
theirs matched my grandmothers. So the doctors said they were going to wait for another patient
to die so they can do the liver transplant because the patient had the type of liver my grandmother
needed. Time flew by and more people were showing up to support her. When other people came
in they started crying as soon as they saw how my grandmother looked. One of her friends went up

The Alternative Food Movement In North America
The alternative food movement in North America, manifesting largely through farmers markets,
encourages people to buy local, eat organic, and to support local farmers, however these spaces
are rarely reflective of the diverse population of farmers and buyers in the city (Gibb Wittman,
2013). Moving from a personal to a political narrative, localisation is presented as the way to
address social injustices and environmental degradation, working against our current destructive
global agri food system (Allen 2004,2010). Advocating for individuals to buy local organic food is
seen as voting for healthier more authentic lives while making positive social and environmental
change (Alkon Agyeman, 2011:2). Consequently, the concept of local food and just food are
viewed interchangeably by certain actors in the food movement through the increasing integration
of the word justice into their webpages, non profit names, and programs (DuPuis, Harrison,
Goodman, 2011). However, I argue that the conflation of local foodas just by alternative food
movements in North America reinforces racial inequities and excludes those most harmed by the
current food system, particularly low income communities and communities of color. As such, this
paper proposes the concept of reflexive localism as proposed by DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman (2011)
as an approach to address this process of exclusion.
Alternative food movements that promote localisation of food risk re enforcing racial

Love Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare s tale Romeo and Juliet is all about the love displayed by characters, including the
platonic love that is demonstrated by best friends Romeo and Mercutio. Both Baz Luhrmann and
Franco Zeffirelli are able to portray this perfectly in their own different ways during the major fight
scene between Tybalt and Mercutio. Baz Luhrmann is able to portray lovein this fight scene with
dramatic and intense music, along with fast paced camera work and close up shots. The close ups,
for example, are very important in displaying the love between Mercutio and Romeo. Whilst
Mercutio intervenes between the fight of Romeo and Tybalt, Luhrmann uses close ups to
demonstrate how much Romeo and Mercutio mean to each other. From the close up of the two,
the audience can clearly see the distress that is shown on Romeo s face when he sees that Mercutio
is dead. For the love of family that is displayed throughout this scene especially by Tybalt,
Luhrmann uses fast paced intense music to show how heated it is for Tybalt, and how much he
dislikes the Montague household, due to the love for his own household, the Capulets. On the other
hand, Franco Zeffirelli isn t able to use these cinematic techniques due to them not appealing to the
target audience. Zeffirelli doesn t need to use over dramatised cinematic techniques to portray the
friendship that Romeo and Mercutio share as they don t appeal to his target audience. Instead,
Zeffirelli uses the emotions of the characters and the way that

Kathryn Adam Research Paper
Have you ever heard about the Kathryn Adam murder? Well if you haven t it s okay because I
will tell you about it right now. Kathryn adam was a young woman working for a company
named L eggs and she delivered boxes of stuff to different places. Some people say that she
committed suicide and others say that she was murdered and taken somewhere that nobody
knows. Her doughter was the one that reported her missing because she didn t come home for
two days. In the case of Kathryn Adam, know one really knows what happened to Kathryn on the
night of April 23rd 1993, I know that when she went missing her L eggs van was parked outside
an abandoned restaurant. At 4:30am she was last seen driving her L eggs van on the 1700 block of

Happened to Kathryn Adam 25 Years ago? by In the News, it states Her L eggs van turned up

being remodeled. I think that this is crazy because why would there be mud splattered on the sides
of the van because the mud was not on there before this case happened. Since the mud was there
that could of been that she either went somewhere that know one knows about and she could of got
murdered there and then the person that murdered her could of drove the van to the restaurant that

Light Is A Form Of Energy And Composed Of Different...
Light is a form of energy and composed of different wavelengths. When the light exposed to an
object, the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could
be absorbed or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the
object44, 45. The wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by
receptor cells (i.e. rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The
wavelengths of visible lightrange from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that
are transmitted, refracted or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the
translucency level of the material. If all light is transmitted, the material will appear completely
transparent. If all light is absorbed, the material will appear completely opaque, and the color black
is perceived. However, if some of the wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected,
refracted, or transmitted, the color that is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are
reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level of translucency is depend on the amount of the
light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46. Moreover, the reflection of the light depends
on the surface texture of the restoration. Thus, a smooth surface increases the specular reflectance,
in which the angulation of light reflection is equal to the angle of the light source. This reveals

Benefits Of Mobile Edge Computing In Mobile Edge Computing
Introduction:
This report will talk about Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) within the Radio Access Network
(RAN). Although not a new concept, this report will explore why MEC is relevant for network
applications and how it can be used to cope with the increasing demand of computing power from
the cloud. It will also explore the potential application scenarios and the benefits it can bring in our
everyday life.
Mobile Edge Computing Background Information:
The number of smart devices connected to the internet is expected to increase significantly over the
next decade. Thus, data generated by these smart devices sent to the remote cloud will also increase
significantly. The European Commission predicts that there will be 50 to 100 billion smart... Show

MEC is also relevant in the implementation of 5G networks. The benefits that MEC will bring into
the evolution of 5G networks are listed below:
Compute intensive applications executed at the network edge will help optimize mobile
resources [3]
Large data can be processed at the edge before being sent to the clouds [3]
Context aware services, such as real time traffic updates, become available with the help of
RAN information [3]
Networks operators are motivated to maintain quality of experience and generate revenue and
therefore need to efficiently cope with the increasing mobile traffic. As mobile applications and
content migrate to the cloud, the latency of the network to access the cloud becomes a major
concern. For application and content providers to deliver more efficient, secure and low latency
connections, deployment of such applications or content at the edge of the network becomes
essential [4]. According to the European Standards Institute, the market drivers of MEC are:
Business transformation: Technology improvements and new revenue generating applications
help innovate new business strategies
Industry collaboration: Collaboration between network operators and application and content
providers is essential for optimal access

Summary Of The Rooftop Of The Creek
Mary split with Lovienthal and Steaks as they left the rooftop in search of Laura and Pamela.
She wanted to inform them of the zombies breaching the creek, and to help gather the children
because it looked imperative that they would be leaving the school immediately. Steaks and
Lovienthal set off for the bus garage to get Albert. They both hoped that he, Johnny, and the
McAllisters had made it farther along in their fortification of a couple of buses than what the
time had allotted them to work. When Mary found Laura she was in the teachers lounge with
Sarah and Pamela playing a board game. Mary quickly and frantically told them what had
happened. A wave of panic than set over Laura leaving her speechless and visibly shaking.
Pamela stepped up and told her to take Sarah and go with Mary to the gymnasium to retrieve her
sons and the other children. After that they should meet back at the cafeteria where she would
be with James packing up supplies. Laura still stood frozen and Pamela had to snap at her
yelling, Go now! in order to get her to break out of her coma like state. Laura then grabbed her
daughter by her arm, and together with Mary they ran for the gym. As soon as Pamela left the
teachers lounge she ran into Blake and Mitch. They had seen the McAllisters leave the school and
then return in Albert s golf cart with a subsequent mass of the living deadgiving chase to them.
Pamela told them she was on her way to gather James and

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
J.D Salinger is a very known american writer whose literature became very popular. His books
revolved around many ideas such as his view on children. Children in many of his books have an
innocence that Salinger grasps onto and makes adults corrupt. Also, he shows how children are
teachers to adults but can still be foolish.
Purity in children are expressed throughout many stories by Salinger. In Catcher In the Rye,
Holden repeatedly expressed Did you ask her if she still keeps all her kings in back row? (42).
He kept the idea of purity with jane(the girl he asked about) and only saw her as still a child and
not as a teenage girl already having sex. The thought of someone maturing and losing their
innocence is portrayed as a bad thing in many stories. For instance, when the words F*ck You were
written on the walls of Holdens little sister Phoebe school, he instantly assumes someone older
snuck in who doesn t belong around children came and did it. In his mind, he doesn t see children
writing swear word or having sex; he sees them doing the opposite and trying to ignore them.
When dealing with children, adults tend to ignore reality and dumb down to their level and way
of thinking. As shown in A Perfect Day for Bananafish by Salinger, Seymour (the adult) meets
with a Sybil (young girl) and makes up imaginary creatures such as a Bananafish and they look for
it. Also, they talk about things they enjoy, but keeping a sense of humor :
Do you like wax? Sybil asked.

The Concept of Personal Identity
Personal Identity in philosophy refers to a person s self perception, ones belief about who they
are and how they differ form others. Locke and Hume both share their ideas about Personal
identity and although they might both drastically differ they are still both puzzling. Locke s
theory on personal identity has to do with what make a person the same person over time, and to
Locke remaining the same person doesn t necessarily mean remaining the same physically. For,
since consciousness always accompanies thinking, and it is that which makes every one to be
what he calls self, and thereby distinguishes himself from all other thinking things, in this alone
consists personal identity (53). He believes that personal identity and consciousness go hand in
hand, he thinks personal identity is conceived through ones awareness of current thoughts and
actions. You are who you are because of your thoughts and memories. Locke believes that the only
accommodation that should be encountered in order for a person to still have their identity is the
awareness of past experiences. They must be able to remember there past experiences in order for
them to preserve their identity. Locke discusses the possibility of two forms having the same
consciousness. He claims that these two forms, because they have the same memories, experiences,
and consciousness must be the same person. Locke s is trying to tell us that a person can indeed
inhabit two different men. An objection to Locke s view

Traveling throguh the Dark by William Stafford
Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford is essentially a short poem that was written based
on personal experience. The poem starts out with an unnamed, anonymous character which is also
the narrator of the poem as he tells of a haunting but sad memory in first person. The story begins
by telling of how a cautious traveler in the night comes across a dying deerbut with an unborn child
waiting to be born. What the traveler chooses to do with the deer and her child is a conflict that
will decide their fate. The poem is a sentimental poem that is both a memory from the past and a
lesson of morals by Stafford that draws the reader in and makes them ponder; what would I do if I
were in this situation? Being written in first person, Stafford puts the reader into the traveler s
position and by this, the reader can experience what is happening as if it were them in the situation.
The short poem begins with a traveler driving along a narrow road by the Wilson River in
Oregon, United States. He stumbles upon a dead doe on the road and with good intentions, tries
to move it out of the way for safe travel of future drivers. He realises that the doe is pregnant with
an unborn child and this is where the traveler comes into internal conflict with himself. He
hesitates with the choices of helping other drivers by tossing the doe with an unborn fawn into the
water or saving it as if he knew how to. In the end, the traveler does not save the doe and tosses it
into the river.

Persuasive Essay On Prayer For God
He is unaware, or He is too old and inept to function alone and needs you to watch Him as you
would someone disabled. If you believe every hair on your head is counted and God knows
when the sparrow falls to the ground, you must also know God is aware of everyone s plight
and condition. He does not need you to tell Him what to do; such is demeaning to the Creator.
Rather than praying for someone s healing, you should pray the person is filled with strength to
overcome adversity. Never should you pray to receive anything in your life except strength to
overcome adversities. The gifts you should pray to receive is the wisdom to ask for what Godhas
chosen for you to receive. The blessing you need from God is to know how He wants you to
serve Him. Everything else will follow. Now I will tell you how to please your Creator. In the
past, you had an excuse of ignorance; now you have no excuse. Your God insists His creation
emulate His holiness and purity. Whatever is holy, pure, and clean you will have; anything less,
you will not have. You will live for your neighbor, the stranger you do not know. Let me inform
you, anyone with a me first attitude will become last. You will achieve spiritual godliness when
you are in overwhelming thankfulness in the face of adversity. In this era, you will be given many
chances to achieve spiritual godliness you will use to please your Creator. There cannot be true

Nclb Thesis
For many poor, minorities, and other disadvantaged groups, the country has not made significant
progress toward quality education for at risk youth consistent with specific provisions outlined in
the No Child Left Behind Act, failing the hopes of students and their families. When the NCLB
Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush on January 8, 2002, it was supposed to
represent a new beginning in providing quality schooleducationto young people who come from
low income families and who have special needs. Its purpose was to close the achievement gap
between groups of students in elementary and high schools. However, many school districts across
the country are still having difficulties in meeting the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, these mandates did not produce the type of results supporters of the law had
hope for. Rather, they taught educators to see accountability as unserious and political (Bell and
Hess). The law produced false positives, resulting in mediocre to poor performances on
standardized tests, more public school takeovers and/or overhauling of school districts,
controversial teacher reforms, dependence on standardized test preparation rather than classroom
content instruction, and increased academic wrongdoings (e.g., changing of student grades and
test taking fraud). In 2015, Congress in both chambers passed a new education law, Every
Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), designed to fix some of the flaws under NCLB. The ESSA was
signed into law by President Barack Obama on December 10, 2015. This law shifted most of the
responsibility of education policy and school accountability from the federal government to the
states. However, the law modified but did not eliminate provisions relating to the periodic
standardized tests given to students ( Every Student Succeeds Act ). On the legal front, there have
been remarkably very few legal challenges to NCLB. However, a few states and special interest
groups have tried to get some of the mandates taken out because they were unconstitutional and/or
created a financial burden on school districts across the country. One

  • 2. Effect of Asean Economic Integration ASEAN: The integration effect Author: Tim Burroughs Asian Venture Capital Journal | 12 Jul 2012 | 13:03 Tags: Asian development bank | Axiom asia private capital |Southeast asia The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is gradually bringing the region s economies closer together. Private equity investors stand to benefit but not all businesses are suited to cross border expansion The trouble hit euro zone is hardly a poster child for regional economic integration, but it has yet to dent similar single market efforts underway in Southeast Asia. Although the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been around for 45 years, it is only in the last half decade that policies have been put in place to bring the 10 member economies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no turning back. It s not just policymakers agreeing on pie in the sky issues; there is a real demand in the business community to get it right. Since the region s ninth summit in 2003, when the concept of an ASEAN Community was first endorsed, GDP has risen from $722 billion to $1.8 trillion in 2010, while GDP per capita more than doubled to $3,100. Trade also rose twofold to $2.1 trillion, one quarter of which is intra ASEAN trade. Over the same period, China leapfrogged the US and Japan to become ASEAN s largest trading partner, accounting for $232 billion in imports and exports in 2010, or 11.3% of the region s total. Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows rose from $24.5 billion in 2003 to $76.2 billion in 2010. Intra ASEAN capital flows have increased more than fourfold, accounting for 16.1% of the regional total in 2010 compared to 11.1% seven years ago. Only the EU contributes more. It is a matter of debate as to who has benefited most from these developments. We have seen multinationals take advantage of the FTA, but the problem is small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) don t have the manpower and resources to do the same, says Sanchita Basu Das, lead researcher for economic affairs at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) ASEAN Studies Center in Singapore. Around 90% of firms in the region still fall into this category. Although ADB s Cyhn cites increased engagement from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Kendra Cherry this letters stand for introverted, sensing, feeling, and judging (n.d, para.1). Keirsey.com puts this four letters together and defines it as The Protectors which would be one of the 16 personality types. The protectors make about ten percent of the population and their primary interest is in the safety and security of those they care about their family, their circle of friends, their students, their patients, their boss, their fellow workers, or their employees (Guardian Portrait of the Protector(ISFJ), n.d, para 1). At work, I also make an agenda of things that needs to be done and check whatever is completed in a day. Most of my friends see me as a psychologist because they undress their soul before me and trust me with their problems. It makes me feel useful to listen to them and try to come up with a good solution or suggestion to any issue they have. A major reason why I also consider myself a protector is because I m extremely aware of my personal feelings but tend to keep them to myself. I find it very hard to express the way I feel to someone because of past experiences, therefore, it s easier for me to keep all my personal things inside. Because of all these reason given, I was actually not surprised with my results because I fill almost all the characteristics of a protector, but I did not know there was a category that met all of these characteristics which was something new that I learned. I will take this assesment with me for the rest of my life because it explains indeed my personality. According to this test, the protectors have a close relationship with their loved ones and cares for their well beings. They also work really hard for what they want to accomplish in life. That is what I want to do. I want to protect my family and friends and give them the best of me. • 5. Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Essay Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Zeitgeist, a German term often attributed to philosopher Georg Hegel (1770 1831), literally means the spirit of the time. Zeitgeist is founded upon the understanding that a dominant school of thought be it political, social, philosophical, or other influences the culture of a specific period in time and that the art and thinking of that period influence one another. Zeitgeist presumes that culture and art are therefore faithfully united, since an artist is the product of his or her time. This semester, in comparing works of visual art and opera and particularly between works of the same time period, many parallels emerge. But beyond the scope of individual time periods (e.g., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is something very human and clearly very comfortable in these figures, which artists and society throughout the centuries deeply cherish. Whatever that might be, the medium of art itself has been strong enough to carry through history these most famous figures of the human race and make them present and relevant to individuals from vastly diverse times. Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr, which is somebody who is killed for his or her faith. The Catholic Church acknowledges a great number of martyrs and individuals it deems representative of a Christ inspired life and marks them by sainthood. Sebastian was said to have been killed during Roman emperor Diocletian s great persecution of Christians. Diocletian (Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus) was Roman emperor from 284 to 305. He was deeply loathed and regarded as the embodiment of irrational ferocity by Henry Chadwick, a prominent British theologian and historian who died in 2008. It was during Diocletian s bloodbath Great Persecution of Christians that there were alleged to have been as many as 17000 martyrs within a single 30 day period, which begat the expression Era of the Martyrs, or more commonly, the Diocletian Era. Historians looking back and researching Diocletian have determined that perhaps some of the stories of Christian martyrdom from the Diocletian era had been exaggerated or embellished ... • 6. Mikhael Gorbachev Dbq Analysis What came with the selection of Mikhael Gorbachev as the new Soviet Leader for the USSR was the start of the turning point in the Cold War. This was as well met by the likes of Ronald Reagan, who at first carried an anti communist rhetoric, progressively displaced his initial feeling for the Soviet Union and begun to change his perceptions of his foes to the east. A compromising negotiation was the overall goal of Gorbachev, which would hope to lead to reduce the risk of nuclear war. Very different from his predecessors, Gorbachev resiliently worked with Reagan in order to successfully come to peaceful relations. Although Ronald Regan had a role in the changing dynamics of the cold warthat had taken place, more of the accolades must go to Mikhail Gorbachev as he played a greater role in the improved relations between the USSR and the United States of America. Due to Gorbachev s revolutionary new thinking, Reagan s reluctance but eventual actions that led and followed the INF treaty, and Gorbachev s final actions after... This only goes on to administer Gorbachev s ongoing practice of openness, as he further explains that the only ones that gain from the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan are those expecting to exploit the misfortunes of others. By ridding Soviet support of the Afghan war, it also helps support the ideals of the disarmament and negotiations related to the elimination of intermediate and short range missiles. He closes by saying that states have sufficient reserves of responsibility, political will and determination to put an end to regional conflict (Doc 82, pg. 448). Outlining the importance of reform within the afghan war, it shows strong similarities of the changing reform that has now been an ongoing implementation within the Soviet Union as ... Character Development In Macbeth By William Shakespeare There are many constants among great tragedies, internal/external conflict, plot development, a problem, but one of the most important aspects to a tragedy is the development of the main character, typically from better to worse. For a story to develop and become more interesting as it goes, the character s personalities must evolve and develop simultaneously. Without this crucial aspect, readers could not become attached or interested in characters and the issues they face, since they would never change. Just as in life, the development in personality is vital to keeping the relationship between reader and characterinteresting. All aspects of nobility, honesty, and valiance that were once parts of Macbeths personality, had left him for good. Macbeths thirst for power grows out of control, he gets himself so deep in a hole of repeated murders, acts of treason, and personal betrayals, that Macbeth becomes resented and vilified by all, regarded as a ruthless tyrant. With the many ruthless acts Macbeth had committed; the killing of his King, the killing of Banquo, as well as the attempted killing of Banquo s son, Fleance, Macbeth finds himself becoming more paranoid of who the next enemy might be. Macbeth orders another senseless act out of paranoia and ruthlessness in Act IV, What, you egg? Young fry of treachery! He has killed me mother. (4.2.94 97) Macbeth had hired murderers to kill the family of Macduff, someone he fears may be plotting to resist him as king. By this point in the play, Macbeth had become a tyrant, who, in trying to kill him resisters, ended up created more of them. With Macbeth growing more ruthless and more tyrannical, he began to lose touch with the things he once cares about the most, the biggest being his wife, Lady Macbeth. She should have died hereafter there would have been a time for such a word tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow (5.5.20 23). Despite their best efforts, the older generation remains cemented in traditional values. The older generation faces a slow, tragic, rotting death similar to Miss Emily s if they continue to adhere to tradition in a modern age. Miss Emily is a contemporary of the older generation and her refusal to pay taxes demonstrates how the adherence to tradition in the face of modern change leads to a slow death. From the beginning of time, starting with the hunting and gathering societies, technology always existed. Granted it was a lot different than the technology created in the industrial time period and light years away from the technology we have today. It is human nature to seek out ways to do things better, easier, faster, and that s where curiosity is tied in. All of a sudden there are assembly lines, steam engines, cotton gins, textiles, and 100,000 work units compared to 100 work units. The union was developed to try get employees the rights they deserved, stop child labor, and gain some security in their jobs. Working in factories on an assembly line began to make workers de skilled and replaceable. Productivity flew through the roof though with all the new machines and growing technology. In industrial societies, the five institutions started to change more drastically than in past societies. Family life became fragmented because there was less communication. The children went to school and the parents worked. Another thing that changed in the family was that people lived with their nuclear, or immediate family instead of being surrounded by family like in past societies. Education was no longer only for the elite who could afford it. Schools were formed and there was an organized system with teachers. Krugman and Obstfeld back Smith s support by stating that the efficiency of trade is increased by free trade and accumulates the national income of countries. Free trade is a theory which suggests that each nation benefits in specialising in an economic activity from which it gains absolute advantage, enjoying absolute superiority over other nations in a specif economical activity (Peng). With free trade follows opportunity, replacing regulation and growth of economic activity. (Rugmann and Collinson). McDonald and Burton clarify that infant industries can feel supported into growth (and sometimes beyond) by the trade policy of protectionism and tariff barriers. This form of strategic protectionism enables industries seeking to grow to enjoy the benefits of first mover advantages, a concept of specialising in producing and exporting only those goods and services which it can produce more efficiently (Investopedia) and the benefits of economies of scales. A prime example of this is Amazon, the first online bookstore. By gaining the first mover advantage into the markets, it has gained and maintained dominance over many firms. Firms have adopted the concepts and practices such as retailers like Barnes and Nobles. Professer Marvin Lieberman and David Montgomery, Stanford University, conclude that first mover advantage can be gained from technology leadership, control of resources and buyer switching costs after gaining the opportunity to access the pioneering stage of a concept. Free Trading Areas Free trade areas, FTA, are economic integration arrangements in which barriers to trade (e.g. tariffs), exchange of goods and information among member nations are removed. It is arguable to say that fair trade aims to create equilibrium between LEDC s, less economically developed countries and developed nations in terms of trading activities and ethics. • 14. Misogynistic Social Roles In Jane Austen s Pride And... The novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen depicts the endeavours of two sisters finding lovers in the late 18th century. Austen s novel takes place during the turning of the 19th century in Regency England, an age in which societal status is of the utmost importance and each individual is ranked based on their family name, wealth, and education. This common ideal of the time period is detrimental to the livelihood of the sisters and the probability of them marrying the men that they truly love. The novel portrays this common prejudice among the social classes, specifically when Mrs Bennet insists that her daughter marry a man in order to keep their estate, Mr. Darcy s initial dismissal of Elizabeth due to her class, and Miss Bingley s manipulation of her brother in order to maintain their families immaculate reputation. The Bennet household consists of Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet, and their five daughters. As the story begins to unfold, it is revealed that Mr. Bennet s property is entailed, meaning that when he passes, nothing of his will be left to his wife or daughters, but will be directly inherited by the closest male relative. In revealing this detail, Austen illustrates the misogynistic social view of the time period which implies that only men should be held responsible for finances. Due to this circumstance, Mrs. Bennet finds herself frantically searching for suitors for her daughters while solely considering their wealth. In Jane s case, she is fortunate enough ... He then went on to say that the real triggers of the crisis had to do with the systematic environment of high leverage in the financial markets, corporate and household sectors and the international nature of finance and banks balance sheets. He classified the underestimation of risk by almost all agents in the economy as a behavioural trigger to the crisis. He specified on the underestimation of risk in the newly issued assets and also in the corporate sector leverage that began in the 21st century. According to him, new and complex derivatives instruments were not mostly regulated before the crisis of 2008, which he suggested could have been the trigger to the crisis. He concluded that some of the triggers like the behavioural trigger could only be incorporated into the new bank regulations as they would not change. Another study carried out by Shiu Yung Ming et. al. (2005), examined the determinants and the impact of derivative usage on bank risk. • 20. Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing... In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for pricing optionsin cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. Some cultures praise the wrong doing of their people and celebrate their behavior whether it is wrong or right. Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grail Professor s comment: This student uses a feminist approach to shift our value judgment of two works in a surprisingly thought provoking way. After showing how female seduction in Malory s story of King Arthur is crucial to the story as a whole, the student follows with an equally serious analysis of Monty Python s parody of the female seduction motif in what may be the most memorable and hilarious episode of the film. • 33. Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian. Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap. The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello. His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back. The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act 4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to get rid of it entirely. This story often leads to a spark of imagination to children trying to imagine all of the animals to be on one gigantic ark. What may seem like an incredible story in the light of a child s eyes may often lead to questions on how it was possible as one gets older. This in turn leads to some of the possibilities of what it would take if Noah s ark were to be possible. The story of Noah s Ark began when God realized that the ancestors of Adam and Eve had slowly began to become wicked as the generations grew and in to get rid of this, He would have to dispose of humans (The Holy Bible New King James Version, 1982). If there were others that helped Noah build the ark, they also would have needed a basic understanding of the requirements to build a boat. Also, Noah would have needed to have known that wood would not be the best material to make the ark out of because of the possibility of the wood to sag and rot within the time that he built it (Moore, 1983). Steel, a much more preferred material, was used for boats this large of size, however steel was not available during this time (Moore, 1983). Since these tools and materials were not available and the ark needed some sturdiness, God told Noah to coat the entire ark with pitch, which was a common practice during this time to seal things together (Moore, ... With there use the allow for the simplifying of a program and more ease of understanding. Furthermore, the done bit energizes as soon as the timer energizes. Main Problems Ryanair s growth rate is affected by macroeconomic factors such as the recession, as seen in 2010 when Ryanair saw a 200% increase in profit and traffic growth, as the low fares became attractive for those suffering from the current climate. Uncertainty still remains regarding the economic climate; problems would arise if it continued, as passengers would reduce spending restricting the company s passenger volume growth. If it were to be successful Ryanair would have to change their strategy, as it would not be able to keep low costs, as passenger on long haul flights would want the additional add ons at no extra price. This would result in increased price and pose a challenge for Ryanair to maintain cost leadership. Possible Solutions Ryanair should expand in the EU, by increasing flight frequency and flights expansion especially in Eastern Europe. One way they can do this is to purchase WizzAir, an airline that already has major bases and routes in Eastern Europe. This would gain an advantage over competitors such as easy jet who currently have no bases there, thereby maintaining cost leadership. Strategic alliances should be put in place so Ryanair can achieve an extensive geographic network, with bases placed strategically around Europe airports. By consolidating with Norwegian airlines and creating a strategic partnership, with a percentage in each other s shares would allow for greater scope and assurance from the unpredictable economic conditions. The Alternative Food Movement In North America The alternative food movement in North America, manifesting largely through farmers markets, encourages people to buy local, eat organic, and to support local farmers, however these spaces are rarely reflective of the diverse population of farmers and buyers in the city (Gibb Wittman, 2013). Moving from a personal to a political narrative, localisation is presented as the way to address social injustices and environmental degradation, working against our current destructive global agri food system (Allen 2004,2010). Advocating for individuals to buy local organic food is seen as voting for healthier more authentic lives while making positive social and environmental change (Alkon Agyeman, 2011:2). Consequently, the concept of local food and just food are viewed interchangeably by certain actors in the food movement through the increasing integration of the word justice into their webpages, non profit names, and programs (DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman, 2011). However, I argue that the conflation of local foodas just by alternative food movements in North America reinforces racial inequities and excludes those most harmed by the current food system, particularly low income communities and communities of color. Love Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Shakespeare s tale Romeo and Juliet is all about the love displayed by characters, including the platonic love that is demonstrated by best friends Romeo and Mercutio. Both Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli are able to portray this perfectly in their own different ways during the major fight scene between Tybalt and Mercutio. Baz Luhrmann is able to portray lovein this fight scene with dramatic and intense music, along with fast paced camera work and close up shots. The close ups, for example, are very important in displaying the love between Mercutio and Romeo. Whilst Mercutio intervenes between the fight of Romeo and Tybalt, Luhrmann uses close ups to demonstrate how much Romeo and Mercutio mean to each other. From the close up of the two, the audience can clearly see the distress that is shown on Romeo s face when he sees that Mercutio is dead. For the love of family that is displayed throughout this scene especially by Tybalt, Luhrmann uses fast paced intense music to show how heated it is for Tybalt, and how much he dislikes the Montague household, due to the love for his own household, the Capulets. On the other hand, Franco Zeffirelli isn t able to use these cinematic techniques due to them not appealing to the target audience. When the light exposed to an object, the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e. rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible lightrange from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46. • 47. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger J.D Salinger is a very known american writer whose literature became very popular. His books revolved around many ideas such as his view on children. Children in many of his books have an innocence that Salinger grasps onto and makes adults corrupt. Also, he shows how children are teachers to adults but can still be foolish. Purity in children are expressed throughout many stories by Salinger. In Catcher In the Rye, Holden repeatedly expressed Did you ask her if she still keeps all her kings in back row? (42). He kept the idea of purity with jane(the girl he asked about) and only saw her as still a child and not as a teenage girl already having sex. The thought of someone maturing and losing their innocence is portrayed as a bad thing in many stories. For instance, when the words F*ck You were written on the walls of Holdens little sister Phoebe school, he instantly assumes someone older snuck in who doesn t belong around children came and did it. In his mind, he doesn t see children writing swear word or having sex; he sees them doing the opposite and trying to ignore them. When dealing with children, adults tend to ignore reality and dumb down to their level and way of thinking. • 48. The Concept of Personal Identity Personal Identity in philosophy refers to a person s self perception, ones belief about who they are and how they differ form others. Locke and Hume both share their ideas about Personal identity and although they might both drastically differ they are still both puzzling. Locke s theory on personal identity has to do with what make a person the same person over time, and to Locke remaining the same person doesn t necessarily mean remaining the same physically. For, since consciousness always accompanies thinking, and it is that which makes every one to be what he calls self, and thereby distinguishes himself from all other thinking things, in this alone consists personal identity (53). He believes that personal identity and consciousness go hand in hand, he thinks personal identity is conceived through ones awareness of current thoughts and actions. You are who you are because of your thoughts and memories. Locke believes that the only accommodation that should be encountered in order for a person to still have their identity is the awareness of past experiences. They must be able to remember there past experiences in order for them to preserve their identity. Locke discusses the possibility of two forms having the same consciousness.
