Blue Whales Research Paper
The Balaenoptera musculus, also known as the Blue Whale, is the largest animal in the world
(Twister 1). These whales have been endangered since the eighteenth and nineteen hundreds and
have been here as long as the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. They are members of the group of
whales known as rorquals and are found in all the world s oceans. They live on the upper layers
of the open sea and are mostly found along the edges of the continental shelves (Zimmerman 1).
Their habitat consists of polar and subtropical waters. Their lifestyle is diurnal and their group
behavior is solitary (A Z). These mammals may be extraordinary, but they are in vulnerable
positions because of hunting, pollution, etc. Blue whales will result in extinction if we don t... Show

They spend about a year inside its mother s womb, and when they are born they weigh up to
three tons and they stretch up to twenty five feet. It gorges on nothing but their mother s milk
and gains about two hundred pounds every day for its first year (National). Females give birth to
calves every two to three years. They remain pregnant for about one year before giving birth.
When born, the blue whale calf is about twenty three feet long and weighs five thousand to six
thousand pounds A nursing blue whale mother produces over fifty gallons of milk a day. At six
months of age, they are an average length of over fifty two feet, and the calf is then disengaged
from his or her mother (Marine Mammal Center). This growth rate is astonishing and is probably
the fastest in the animal kingdom

Montgomery Bus Protest Summary
Second, In Social Movements and Social Change Litigation: Synergy in the Montgomery Bus
Protest by Christopher Coleman, Laurence D. Nee, and Leonard S. Rubinowitz, they explored how
the arrest of Rosa Parks created momentum in the Montgomery bus protest in a time oppression and
mistreatment to the Black community on the city s buses. Colored citizens of Montgomery faced
discrimination on daily bases, for they had to use the bus transportation in order to function in
society. After the arrest of Rosa Parks, the oppressed community grouped together and set, both
direct action and legal strategies in motion with a one day boycott on the day of her trial and an
effort to challenge the segregation laws as a defense to her prosecution (Coleman, Nee,
Rubinowitz, 2005). Rosa Parks became the image of injustice of the... Show more content on

Also, both political movements were composed of protestors that were not afraid of self sacrifice,
which emphasized their serious stance. In the Montgomery Bus Protest, all protestors had to go
through the hardship of not using public transportation, yet they were able to sustain themselves

community helped those who had a tough time getting around the city some transportation. This

action in the form of the boycott and, later, litigation that reached the U.S. Supreme Court

Persuasive Essay On Homeless
47,725 or about 8% of the homeless population are veterans and 50% of the homeless people are
over 50 years old in the U.S. Homelessness is an unsatisfactory issue that we as humans do not see
the importance of the help they need. In our community, we take things for granted and not worry
about the importance of helping others. The unfortunate people living in the streets have passed
through difficult times and appreciate small or big things. Homeless is a person without a home,
and therefore typically living on the streets. Some homeless people have become abusive of drugs,
alcohol, and other different type of drugs. Homelessnessis a major problem in our society.
Homelessness contaminates our city, makes our city look dirty, and it is priority to fix this
problem. To begin, homelessness contaminates our city and spreads diseases like Hepatitis A, HIV
/AIDS of sexually transmitted infections, virus and Tuberculosis. For example, when the unhoused
go to the public bathroom, sometimes they do not clean themselves or wash their hands. During,
the homeless pass it on to their neighbors or other living creatures and spread or contaminate with
different types of diseases. Homeless contaminate our city by littering on the ground with plastic,
foil, and other types of things that contaminate. Based on what I have seen, one example is when
I go down to the Santa Ana Public Library my mom, sister, and I see that there are various
amounts of trash on the ground. To include, when my family and I pass through the Angels
Stadium in Anaheim I see that there are numerous homeless people that are contaminating our
environment with plenty of diseases. To add, in the short story ВЁWhat do Fish Have to do With
AnythingВЁ by Avi, it states that ВЁhis matted, streaky gray hair hung like a ragged curtain over
his dirty face when describing the homeless man. As a matter of fact, the author states, his shoes
were torn; he had rough hands that lay upon his knees; and his hand was palm up. No one seemed
to pay him any attention and he begs for money. Because he is filthy, most likely he is carrying
bacteria that may cause diseases. In my community, near the riverbed you can tell that the homeless
leave their feces

The Role Of Animals In The Celtic Culture
Animals symbolized the good and the evil in the celtic culture, and much hasn t change till this
day. Celtics viewed animals as symbols of herosim, strength, beauty, evil, death , omens, and
almost everything else in their daily lives. For example the dog was viewed as a spiritual
guardian to its owner, a friend, and a tool that was depended on at times. Today their role hasn t
changed much and still symbolizes everything they did to the celtics. We have a great friendship
bond with our dogs, and can trust them with our lives. They are our guardians when we are
distracted, and guard our homes at night. The celtics used greyhounds as gifts, and I can understand
why. Greyhound dogs are built athletic and speed. Today greyhound dogs are used to

Marketing Mix and Petrol Retail Outlet
Marketing Mix and
Petrol Retail Outlet
As of December 2010, there were 207 petrol stations in Singapore. These stations are owned and
operated by four major players in the petroleum retail industry. They are; Shell Eastern Petroleum
Pte. Ltd (Shell), ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd (Esso), Chevron Corporation (Caltex) and
Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC). In this essay, we ll be looking at how these four players
apply the Marketing Mix in running their petrol stations across Singapore.
Marketing Mix is defined as A combination of the product itself, the price of the product, the place
where it is made available and the activities that introduce it to consumers that creates a desired
response among a set of predefined consumers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When there is an increase or decrease on pump prices by a particular player, it was observed that
it took between 1 to 48 hours for the rest to follow suit (Ministry of Trade and Industry, 2011),
with price increase usually taking a longer time to complete. In terms of marketing strategy, the
longer you hold your price lower, the more customer you will be able to attract. As for lowering
prices, the first to do so will have the advantage.
Most items sold in the convenience shops of petrol stations are usually priced higher than those in
regular supermarkets. This is due to the fact that they operate 24 hours. Nevertheless, consumers
are willing to pay the higher prices for the sake of convenience as they are already at that location.
As mentioned above, people are able to do quick shopping while waiting for their vehicles to be
refuelled.
Sales promotion is defined as short termed incentives to encourage the purchase or sale of a
product or service (Kotler, 2001, p 559). As Shell is a major sponsor in the Formula 1 racing
circuit, it is not surprising that they have sales promotions that are linked to the Formula 1. On a
weekend where there is a race, they have discounts on their high end, high octane fuel. This is on
top of the station discounts and credit card rebates that are already in

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopment disorder that affects people as young as
infancy that can become more evident throughout their childhood. The word Spectrum refers to a

While infants are still discovering most of their sensors, touch is important because higher levels of
touch between parent and infant (e.g., skin to skin contact, affectionate touch, tactile game play)
have been linked to secure attachment relationships, more positive social responses in infants, and
positive, reciprocal parent infant interactions.. (577). Interactions between parent and infants
through touch are important to visualize whether the infant is responding to reflexes, or involuntary
movements. For example, when a child is touched on the cheek, most likely the baby will respond
by turning their heads toward the direction of the hand. Abnormal touch and unresponsive reflexes
can link to autism symptoms in children such as unresponsive to sensory stimuli. Tactile games
such as holding a toy above them can monitor whether the baby is responding back or distracted
and is unable to focus. Autism Speaks, describes research done on their article, Eye Contact
Declines Early in Babies Who Later Develop Autism by explaining that babies are placed in front
of a monitor that shows their mother speaking to them and showing their fingers and other
movements to get the babies full attention. On the other side researchers are visualizing and
monitoring the baby s eyes and direction. Researchers state that, Such an early decline in eye

Bel Canto Summary
The title of the book that I read was Bel Canto. Bel Canto was written by Ann Patchett, and
published in 2001. The setting of this work of literature is known to be in South America; however,
the country within the continent is unknown. One theme, that can be drawn from this work is that
a one of the most basic human impulses is civilizing with other humans. Many people believe that if
a group of people were in captivity, then they would immediately resort to violence and trying to
dominate each other. However, Bel Canto suggest that, if put in that same situation, that the human
impulse would not be violence, but that our first impulse would be to civilize with one another.
One important but minor character is Mr. Messner. Mr. Messner is the Swiss representative for the
Red Cross, to be the hostage negotiator. The terrorist end up liking Messner, so he is the only
person, in the book, that is allowed to come and go from the mansion. Being that voice of reason
from the outside, is Messner s main job, because even though he is in the mansion throughout the
months, he can still see the situation objectively. In the last chapter, Messner becomes more of an
important character by giving the readers more sense of urgency, when he keeps reminding the
terrorist that a negotiation needs to happen or else their dystopian society will be ruined. At the
end, Messner was right when many of the terrorist, and Mr. Hosokawa, were shot and killed. As
stated in the first paragraph, the

camouflage pattern and is designed for use in woodland environments. The Indian Army Desert
camouflage, which features a desert camouflage pattern, is used by artillery and infantry posted in
dusty, semi desert and desert areas of Rajasthan and its vicinity.
The forces of the East India Company in India were forced by casualties to dye their white
summer tunics to neutral tones, initially a tan called khaki (from the Hindi Urdu word for dusty ).
This was a temporary measure which became standard in Indian service in the 1880s. Only during
the Second Boer War in 1902, did the entire British Armystandardise on dun for Service Dress.

The modern Indian Army wears distinctive parade uniforms characterised by variegated turbans and

the Naga Regiments wear broad brimmed hats of traditional style. Traditionally, all Rifle regiments

What Is Transitioning To Implementation Plan
Transitioning to Implementation
Throughout the course of this planning guide, we have discussed various strategies to implement
when undergoing the process of strategic planning. However, the most vital factor to keep in the
back of our minds, as we strategically plan is to think if we choose that strategy, how would we
implement? In thinking like this, planners should be careful that they do not develop a plan that is
so intentionally achievable that no one has to do anything to implement leading to one of the
common downfalls of implementation (Zuckerman, 2016) or so impossible that there is no way to
implement it. Acknowledging this is what makes this guide so crucial for the plan to be fulfilled.
In this section of the guide, we will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How do we Communicate?
A formal, highly inclusive, and informative roll out of the strategic plan should assist in facilitating
implementation (Zuckerman, 2016). The Rhode Island Welcome Back Center should consider a
communication plan to accompany the newly developed strategic plan. According to Pilkington
(2016), a good communication strategy is nothing without a plan to deliver it, and a plan is of no
value without a strategy to guide it. The purpose of the plan is to inform, involve and excite
constituents on the changes to come (Zuckerman, 2016). The plan should focus on who the
communication will address (Senior management, board, donors, volunteers and staff), what, how
and when the communication will be released.
DEADLY SIN: The strategy is communicated on a need to know basis rather than freely throughout
the organization (Zuckerman, 2016).
Plan Review and Progress Monitoring.
Strategic planning is a dynamic process; therefore, it is never completed (Allison Kaye, 2011).
Therefore, progress must be monitored on a regular basis during implementation and adjusted as
needed (Zuckerman, 2016). The monitoring of the strategic plan involves ensuring that plan goals
and objectives are being met. The Rhode Island Welcome Back Center should create a formal
process to track and monitor strategic goals and objectives either monthly or bimonthly and if
satisfactory progress is made, then the monitoring process can change to

A Brief History Of The Mayan Civilization
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MAYAN CIVILIZATION Michael Costa History 157: History of
Latin America May 8, 2015 Mayan civilization peaked too early to impress the Spanish in the
manner of the Inca and Aztec empires. The great Mayan ceremonial centers visited by modern
tourists were all in ruin when the Spanish arrived in the 1500s. In fact, the highpoint of Mayan
imperial organization was almost a thousand years earlier. Mayan city states were located in high
mountains, in densely forested tropical lowlands, and on the arid YucatГЎn peninsula. Like the
Mexicas (and other indigenous people of central Mexico), the Maya built stone pyramids, but
they did not dedicate any to human sacrifice. Mayan cities contained ball courts where opposing
teams tried to get a rubber ball through a stone hoop. The game was not a sport, but a ritual, and
often a matter of life and death. Mayan writing, composed of symbols called glyphs, was the most
elaborate created by any indigenous civilization. In an attempt to eradicate Mayan indigenous
religious belief, the Spanish conquistadors burned large collections of Mayan writings. The Mayan
language lives on today, but its linguistic fragmentation mirrors the political fragmentation of the
city states. Modern Mayan is a family of languages, rather than a single language. QuichГ© and
Mam, two modern Mayan languages, are no more alike than English and German or French and
Italian. Life was good to those lucky

Case Study On Small Business Managers
Blunder # 6 Not having an advisor with experience
Ugh. At first I was going to strike this from the list because, in my opinion, it isn t applicable to
every one. Some business types may be along the road less traveled, making available advisors
scarce. I can think of a few industries where the managers are hard to find and the owners and
founders even harder. People with valuable experience may not be available to some of you
reading right now.
For the rest of us here, on the other hand, finding someone who could advise us and answer
questions isn t as difficult. You may even have relatives who are in the same field you want to
venture into. If I decide to open a bar or a lounge in a nice part of the city, I can (and do) get pointers

Unless you have a high profile product, or a high profile client who endorses you, you ll likely
need ad injections from time to time throughout your company s life. Think about it, everyone
knows about Pepsi, Gieco, and McDonald s, but you still see their ads right? Even the big guys do it.
The need for advertising and marketing never stops, regardless of how big you get. And growth will
come from attracting new clients with solid advertising. Blunder # 9 Not having a sufficient

I made this blunder last year selling a product I developed. I was selling a deluxe wine set on

Comparing War Poems Essays
Comparing War Poems Died of Wounds and Suicide in the Trenches are two poems, which I will
be comparing the similarities and differences, which were written by the same author. Both these
poems were written by a person called Siegfried Sasson, who wrote most of his poems during the
World War One, which outlined how bad the war was to those at home after suffering from being
Shell Shocked. I will be comparing the language it uses, ideas it contains and the way it is
structured between both poems, which Siegfried Sasson uses to demonstrate that war is evil, and
should be stopped. The theme in Died of Wounds is that soldiers become shell shocked and go
insane. They also suffer from mental and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the forth line of Died of Wounds the author says He did the business well where business is a
metaphor, for it is the earnest of the wounded solider to draw attention to himself. Also on the
last line of Died of Wounds the author describes dead soldier as a slight wound where he is
comparing a dead solider to a small wound, and therefore it does not matter, and he is also
comparing the country to a solider, which is hardly notices a slight wound. There is also some
similarity in Suicide in the Trenches where Siegfried Sasson describes the trenches as if it is
like hell meaning that war was like a place where young people went and got themselves killed.
On the first line of Died of Wounds, Siegfried Sasson wrote Wet White , which is alliteration,
which is a type of sound device. He also does this on the third line, ninth line and the last line. This
makes the poem sound better. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the Trenches, where the
author also uses this device to make the poem catchier but instead uses different letters to make it
sound different and better. There is also another similarity in both poems where there are no
assonances, which is the same as alliteration but it does not occur in consonants

Miles Davis Influence
Question 11
Miles Davis was one of the greatest and most important figures in jazz history. Miles Dewey
Davis III was a musician, composer, arranger, producer and bandleader all in one. Davis was at
the forefront of almost every major development in jazz after World War 2. He was one of the most
influential and innovative musicians of the twentieth century along with Charlie Parker and Louis
Armstrong. His versatility landed him at the forefront of bebop, cool jazz, modal, hard bop and
fusion (Kirker, 2005:1). His sound went on to influence many other newer forms of music today
such as pop, soul, R amp;B, funk and rap. As one of the last trumpet players, Davis employed a

Walkin , was a swaggering blues piece informed by the extended harmonies of bebop was a shift
from cool jazz and announced the arrival of hard bop (Sales, 1992:171). Hard bop was the
evolvement and development from bop during the 1950s and 1960s, often regarded as a reaction to
the restraint and intellectualism of cool jazz (Kingman, 1990:389).
With the installation of the Miles Davis Quintet, Davis picked up where his late forties sessions
left off. Eschewing the rhythmic and harmonic complexity of the prevalent bebop, Davis was
given space to play long, legato and essentially melodic lines, where he would begin to explore
modal music, his lifelong obsession. Modal jazz is a new venture for jazz both harmonically
and structurally, it no longer used the chord progressions of standard tunes as the basis for
improvisation replaced by a succession of scales on which the performer improvised instead
(Kingman, 1990:390). Davis had definitely gone a long way in his trumpet playing since
collaborating with Parker. No longer dependant on bebop phrasing, he chose a minimalist
approach instead. Ornate phrasing gave way to a smattering of tones. He was also utilizing a
Harmon mute, sometimes adding reverb, which had a whisper effect and personalised his sound.
Elements of texture and silence between notes were becoming more dominant (Kirker, 2005:2). By
1958, he had freed himself by using modal scales and slower moving harmonies. Milestones
portrayed this example as

A Duty Fixed By Civil Law
It has long been established that a tort occurs where there is breach of a general duty fixed by
civil law . The branch of law we know as negligence has been in development since the
establishment of a duty of care for one s neighbour in Donoghue v Stevenson . In that case, Lord
Atkin laid down general principles whereby a person would owe another a duty of care, the most
important being you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can
reasonably foresee would be likely to injure your neighbour . This principle has been refined on a
number of occasions and the current approach for establishing a duty of care is typified in Caparo

those where a claimant has suffered financial damage but has incurred no personal injury or
damage to property . It is arguable that other losses which result from tort could possibly be
described as economic loss; however, the true definition of economic loss involves someone
who has suffered financial damage that does not result from personal injury or damage to
property. In Spartan Steel Alloys Ltd v Martin Co (Contractors) Ltd , the defendants were
negligent in cutting an electric cable, which then resulted in a 14 hour power cut in the area.
This affected a number of properties including the claimant s factory. With no power available to
heat the claimant s furnace in his factory, the metal there solidified and was ruined. The claimant
was also required to shut his factory temporarily. Civil litigation was initiated by the claimant for
damage to ruined metal (which constituted physical damage to property), loss of the profit that
would have been made had that metal been sold (labelled as economic loss arising from damage
to property) and loss of profit the factory would have made had it not been forced to close (pure
economic loss). A majority of the Court of Appeal held that only the first two heads of claim
were recoverable. The defendant owed a duty of care to the claimant not to damage their property
but no duty of care was owed with regard to loss of profit. It was found that it was

How Agriculture Is Responsible For Ninety Two Percent Of...
Imagine silence. Imagine silence every time a faucet is turned, a garden spout is twisted, a
shower handle pulled, a rock thrown into what used to be a flowing river. This may seem
exaggerated, but this is our planet s fate if the agriculture industry does not alter their water usage
techniques. Agriculture is responsible for ninety two percent of the world s water footprint
(Perkins). It is projected that by 2030, just fifteen short years away, over half the world will be
under high water stress conditions (Powers). Seventy percent of the world s usable fresh water
goes to agriculture(Johnson). Of that seventy percent, agricultural crops use only forty three
percent; the rest is wasted (Johnson). According to the United States Geological Survey, the
agricultural industry consumes 138.92 billion gallons of water a day (Admin). With such a high
demand for water and rapidly growing populations scientists are concerned about and unsustainable
future. Of course, scientists and engineers are working come up with solutions to this catastrophic
issue, but the people who could make the biggest difference need to start listening. Farmers
responsibility roles in conservation of our world s most vital natural resources cannot be stressed
enough. The agriculture industry needs to make significant changes and adapt a series of
adjustments to conserve the planet s most precious resource before even money cannot make a

As written in the case study, earlier the SYSCO operating regions had conducted their own HR

negative impact on company s growth. Cooperation between operating managers and the HR

Another problem in the SYSCO case study was the safety. Workplace safety and security has

The Shawchek Redemption And The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) was directed and written by Frank Darabont. It is an
adaptation of the novella Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption, written by Stephen
King. The film received a lot of critical acclaim and was nominated for the 1994 Best Picture
Academy Award. Many of King s literary works had been adapted to screen prior to the release of
The Shawshank Redemption. Films including Stand By Me (1986) and The Shining (1980)
establish King s name in the cinematic world. This notoriety would have been beneficial to the film
as the director, Frank Darabont, had only ever directed a short film before, which was coincidentally
also an adaptation of Stephen Kings The Woman In The Room. Fidelity can be difficult to
accomplish when adapting written text to the screen as there are a different set of rules and
limitations. Where a novel may have hundreds of pages, a film only has a few hours to convey the
same message and meaning to the audience. A film must show the events whereas a written text
can tell the reader what occurred.
In the novella, Red is introduced before Andy. The entire story is from his point of view. As the
narrator of the novella, Red feels that before he can talk about Andy he has to explain a few other
things about [him]self (2012, p.4). The reader gains more of an insight into Red and his past than
is in the film. In The Shawshank Redemption the audience is initially shown Andy on the night of
the murder of his wife and her lover. Darabont

The Human Brain And Brain Disorders
the human brain can be burdened with various diseases and disorders. Since the brain acts as the
bodies control system, any malfunctions can result in serious problems to the entire system,
including memory, sensation, and even personality; factors such as illness, genetics, and trauma are
a few of the main things that cause Braindisorders. (Brain Disorders) Degenerative diseases,
psychiatric diseases, brain tumors, brain injuries, and addiction are some major illnesses that
come into play. Degenerative diseases are passed down through generations; an enormous forty
five million people are affected by these conditions, all across the world. Alzheimer s, ALS,
huntington s, and parkinson s disease are all categorized as degenerative diseases. Depression,
schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder are classifies as non other than psychiatric disorders; luckily,
these disorders can be treated with therapy. There is a variety of auspicious options that can be
chosen from accordingly for the patient. Additionally, many individuals suffer from addiction;
while everyone is at risk of addiction in some way shape or form, a few are at higher risk than
others. When a person is suffering from this dreadful condition, they do not think rationally, and
tend to act upon impulses; the craving is at such an intensity in some cases, that the individual is
willing to put everything at risk, and disregard whatever the consequences may be. Biologically,
the chemical makeup and structure of the brain itself undergoes alterations under the
circumstances that the individual repeats his or her use of drugs. By exciting the nerves within
the reward center of the brain, the recipient experiences a feeling of thrill themselves. (Brain
Facts) When a brain undergoes a serious blunt trauma, There is a high chance that brain tissue,
neurons, or nerves could have been severely ravaged, and this may lead to a variation of negative
conditions; hematomas, blood clots, contusions (bruising of the brain tissue), concussions, strokes,
and cerebral edema (swelling within the skull of a person) are all high on the list of disorders
caused by injury to the brain. The ability to connect with the rest of the human body may be very

Hamlet, The Prince Of Denmark
Hamlet is one of William Shakespeare s most iconic plays about a tragedy. The play begins with
Hamlet mourning the death of his father and ends with a hefty amount of corpses. The cause of the
multiple deaths may be from Hamlet s decisions that formed from questioning that which is
unknown to him. Throughout the Shakespearean play, Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, as well as
the audience, are placed in a constant state of uncertainty. While Hamlet grieves his father s death
many things start to unfold and create questions for the audience and Hamlet to queries such as the
existence of his father s ghost, death and mortality and lastly more for the audience, the mental
state of Hamlet himself. The theme of uncertainty challenges Hamlet in his choices as well as
how uncertainty brings out deeper and more complex thoughts for him to explore. Through the
lines that are read and the visual shown through the actors expressions and wardrobe in the play,
we see start see how the uncertainty changes and morphs into different decisions of how Hamlet

Essay about Does Your Company Contribute to Gross...
How do you measure the happiness of a nation? One measure often used, Gross National Product,
examines the total financial value of all services and goods in a nation. As can attest to, however,
money doesn t always equal happiness. While the financial value of what s produced may rank
relatively high, if the money is concentrated in the hands of a relatively small amount of people, the
nation s overall happinessisn t that high. Additionally, other measures of population happiness are
often overlooked in gross national product metrics. A city may be bursting at the seams with money,
but mired in pollution, corruption, and noise. Citizens might make products that let them pay for
housing and food, but if medical care is unaffordable,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Promoting community contribution as a way to make clients happier is nothing new; law firms,
construction contractors, and cafes across the globe contribute to local causes. Sometimes it takes
the form of Adopt a Highway participation, or the sponsorship of a local free clinic s fundraising
banquet. This speaks to the concept of Enlightened Self Interest , in which these contributions
encourage potential customers to do business with the company, while actively helping the wider
community.
Conversely, bad customer service experiences not only decrease community happiness, but they
also decrease a company s bottom line. People listen to stories of bad service, thirsting for juicy
details, and so not only will an upset customer consider leaving your company, but potential
customers may never do business with you. Outside of a potential short term financial benefit from
denying your customers request, the impact of having customers angry about their experience with
customer service will be negative on your company.
Thus, when developing your approach to customer complaints and concerns, think about how your
company is contributing to Gross National Happiness, not just Gross National Product. Taking a
broader perspective is great not only for your community, but for your business s long term health as

Learning Behavior Essays
Learning Behavior
Psychologists have preformed many studies and proposed many theories regarding learning.
Learning can be defined as a relatively permanent change in behavior that is due to past experience.
John B. Watson was an early psychologist that didn t agree with many other psychologist s ideas
about learning only relating to consciousness and thought processes. As the founder of behaviorism,
Watson studied learning in a behavioral perspective, an approach that emphasizes the relationship
between outwardly observable behaviors and environmental events, rather than mental processes.

An operant describes behaviors that are operate upon the environment to generate consequences.
Reinforcement follows an operant and increases the likelihood of the operant being repeated. There
are two forms of reinforcement: positive and negative reinforcement. When an event occurs
producing a positive effect, it is considered positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement
involves the removal of a stimulus increasing the likelihood of a positive effect. An example of this
would be to take two aspirins to remove the pain from a headache. Punishment is a process that
decreases the likelihood of a behavior to occur again. This is not to be confused with negative
reinforcement because it doesn t increase the likelihood of an occurrence. There are drawbacks to
punishment. It doesn t teach an appropriate behavior to replace an inappropriate one. Also, intense
punishment can lead to results such as passivity, fear, anxiety, or hostility. Finally, effects of
punishment are sometimes temporary. An alternative to punishment is trying to change the
behavior of others. First, stop reinforcing the problem behavior by identifying the reinforcer and
eliminating it. When it is not possible to eliminate the reinforcement, remove the opportunity to
obtain positive reinforcement. An example of this would be time out for a child because he or she

Why Stewardship Is Important
Stewardship is one of the most vital aspects of living a good and holy life. Stewardship is a way
of living. There are four important factors to living a life of stewardship. These factors are
receiving the gifts of God with gratitude, cultivating the gifts from God responsibly, sharing them
lovingly in justice with others, and standing before the Lord in a spirit of accountability.
Stewardship is an extremely important component of all lives. One important part of stewardship
is being grateful of the gifts we receive from God. Everything in our lives are gifts from God,
whether we realize it or not. There are many people in the world who do not have the same

Moonlight Reflection
In the movie Moonlight, written and directed by Berry Jenkins, follows an introverted black boy
named Chiron through three pivotal stages in his life as he struggles to come to term with his
sexuality. What made it even harder for Chiron was living in a drug infested, poverty stricken
environment filled with people who constantly remind him that he is different. Throughout the
three stories Chiron gets bullied through his childhood and high school years, causing him to
eventually snap into what his society wanted him to be.
In the opening scene of Part One, Chiron s childhood, there s a shot of little Chiron running as
fast as he can away from a group of boys who are chasing him through a field calling him a
faggot. This really shows that the boys that were chasing him think that it is not okay that Chiron
is different compared to them. After being chased into an abandoned apartment Chiron is
introduced to Juan who eventually becomes somewhat of a role model for Chiron. The reason
Juan becomes such a role model is because he is the perfect example of how masculine a man
should be.
Little gets picked on every day by almost everyone at his school except for his friend Kevin, who
thinks that Chiron is too soft and tries to toughen him up. The fact that Kevin, the one person who
does not bully him still tells Chiron that he needs to become tougher. This just shows how deeply
rooted in Chiron s society that every man should be tough. In one scene at school, Little, and

As people age over time, they have a way of changing both psychological and biological. These

Psychologists researching the normal changes of aging have found that although some aspects of

Semantic memory is generally derived from episodic memory, in that we learn new facts or

gradual transition from episodic to semantic memory can take place, in which episodic memory
reduces its sensitivity and association to particular events, so that the information can be
generalized as semantic memory (Episodic Sematic Memory) . This is important to understand

became fearful of the South Africans as numerically they were out numbered. In order to remain the
dominant group and continue to hold political power, the Dutch Afrikaners created 317 government
laws which were related to ethnic segregation and restrictions based upon race. The purpose for
creating the discriminating laws were to maintain the white domination of the society and laws
were designed to acknowledge the rights of the white people but at the same time deny the rights
of those who were non white. The first order of business for the Nationalist Party was to separate
the population of South Africa according to race, geographic locations, social and political
separation. According to the Library of Congress, apartheid s legislation states that the
Population Registration Act of 1950 in which the organization in charge of the racial
classification was conducted by the Department of Home Affairs, designed to divide the country
s population according to race. The Department of Home Affairs was responsible for recording
people by their racial group and as a result of the group members were treated differently. This law
formed the basis of apartheid and under the legislation terms of the population registration act, all
residents of South Africa were to be classified as white, colored, or native (later called Bantu)

Examples Of Dishonest In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is an exceptional piece of American literature written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, in
1925. It follows the story of 32 year old Jay Gatsby, from the perspective of newcomer Nick
Carraway. He moves to West Egg, and settles down next to Gatsby, who throws lavish parties for
the neighborhood. Eventually, we find out that Gatsby is pining away for Daisy Buchanan, his
love five years previous. He pursues her, but it turns out to be his pitfall. In the end, Daisy
accidentally hits someone, for which Gatsby takes the blame and gets shot while swimming by the
husband of the woman Daisy hit. The tragic ending can be attributed to one person; Jay Gatsby. He
was responsible for this terrible tragedy because he lied about his character, he refused to deal with
the present situation, and he ruined Tom and Daisy s marriage.
Gatsby is responsible for his own regrettable ending because of his dishonesty and deception. He
was dishonest about a lot of things. He lied about his job, his past, and does nothing to dismiss
the wild rumors surrounding him. Two of these include that he was a German spy, and that he
killed a man once. When they first met when Gatsby was as a poor soldier, he was dishonest to
Daisy about his wealth as well. She said he acted rich , and he did not correct her. This leads to
the whole misunderstanding and rage at the end of the novel when Jay is exposed by Tom for how
he made his money. If he had been honest about how he came to be rich, then there would

Informative Speech On Horses
Horses are kind, gentle, and loving animals. They have been in many movies and are in many
sports and books. I am going to share 3 essential, important, questions about horses that I think you
should know.
Did horses evolve from a different animal?
About 55 million years ago the horse we know now was a small animal standing 2 feet tall. The
earliest horse had pointed teeth which shows that it might have eaten meat. As you know the horse
nowadays doesn t have toes. A long time ago horses had toes. The skull of the earliest horse looks
like a fox s skull with back teeth.
How were horses used in the past and used how are they used now?
For centuries horses have been used to clear forests, plow land, and herd cattle. A long time time

The Resistance Of Bacteria And Antibiotics
The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is becoming a grave and global medical problem. This is
because whenever antibiotics are taken the development of resistance is a given consequence;
bacteria adapt to changing environmental conditions through the continuous process of evolution.
The main issue with antibiotics is not whether but when antibiotic resistancewill occur.
This resistance is caused by the lack of new antibiotics available and continuing over prescription of
antibiotics. Any bacteria that acquire resistance alleles, by either random mutation or genetic
exchange with other bacteria, have the capability to resist multiple antibiotics. Therefore, the
process of bacteria gaining multiple resistance attributes over time gives bacteria the ability to
become resistant to many different families of antibiotics.
Nosocomial infections are, in particular, an progressively prevalent problem. This is because
weakened immune systems of hospital patients make them particularly vulnerable to infection. E.
coli is frequent cause of infection, especially in the urinary tract. This means patients catheters
could easily be at risk to a resistant strand of E.coli. In the US alone, the overall cost for medical
intervention of nosocomial urinary tract infections is staggering, with approximately $424 million
to $451 million spent annually in the United States to manage these infections (source).
Alarmingly, 17.3% infections requiring hospitalisation have been attributed to

Common Stressors To International Students Essay
Nowadays, a great many of international students come to universities and clolleges in United
States (U.S). Growing in a different culture, they tend to have distinct problems compared with
local American students. College counselors often need to make some adjustment of the theories
and approaches they use to help international students. The article selected discussed the common
stressors and the coping strategies of international students, as well as the implication to college
counselors when working with international students. One of the common stressors to international
students is the adjustment difficulty. Immersed in a different culture and a new environment, it is
normal for international students to feel more stressful to adapt... Show more content on

This tendency may be due to the heterogeneous nature of this special population. Some of the
international students may assume that college counselors may not understand their experiences
and feelings because of the differences, while some other international students are not familiar with
the professional counseling services and are reluctant to make use of them. Considering
international students less active participation in traditional counseling, colleges counselor could
develop some program to facilitate international students understanding of counseling services and
reduce their apprehension. In addition, college counselors should also make use of other non
traditional counseling approaches to help international students achieve a higher level of
adjustment. For example, college counselors can implement some psycho educational programs,
mentoring programs, prevention services and some support groups. The new student orientations are
a good opportunities for counselors to help international students get familiar with the helping
services available on campus. Counselors can also use this platform to explain some cultural and
educational differences to international students. In this way, they would be better prepared and not
attribute themselves as the sources of adjustment

Symbols In Heart Of Darkness
Africa s Darkness Darkness refers to the evil acts of another person. These evil acts can symbolize
darkness in any situation, such as violence, discrimination, and other cruel acts that people
experience daily. Acts of darkness could cause harm to an individual physically or emotionally. In
the novel, Heart of Darknessby Joseph Conrad, the word darkness is used to symbolize many
events that happened in the continent of Africa. Three events that symbolize the word darkness
are the Europeans cruel behaviors, Kurtz s selfishness, and Marlow s sexist statements. One event
in the novel that displayed darkness was when the Europeans were cruel to the Africans. The main
character, Marlow, went on a voyage to the Congo River. When Marlow arrived in Africa, he
recognized that the Africans were being treated in an evil manner. In the novel, Marlow states,
They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they
were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in
the greenish gloom (Conrad, 82). This displayed that the Africans were in harsh conditions that...

Kurtz or the Europeans, but it is also displayed in the main character, Marlow. Marlow would
occasionally speak sexist statements to himself, which shows that Marlow has a heart of
darkness. In the novel, Marlow states, It s queer how out of touch with truth women are. They
live in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like it, and never can be. It is too
beautiful altogether, and if they were to set it up it would go to pieces before the first sunset
(Conrad, 76). This statement from Marlow signifies that he is an individual who thinks that women
cannot do anything on this earth except make it worse. This definitely shows that Marlow has a
heart of darkness. Therefore, darkness is used throughout the novel because of Marlow s sexist

The purpose of this paper is examine operating budgets and variance analysis for Tasty Treats. It
will discuss Budgets and fianances can be the sole reason a company succeeds or fails. It is
important for a company to know how much they need for future inventory, the cost of materials
to produce an item, the overhead costs, and any other items needed to manufacture their
products. In this paper we will discuss some changes we should make to change the unfavorable
items on the variance report. In examining the variance for the product costs, the results are
unfavorable. The total for direct materials are were more than 7,750 more than originally
estimated. We originally factored in a cost of $232,500 for the cost of of the products. Instead we
spent $240,250. It is important for us to have the number accurate. This could be due to a cost
increase in raw materials, additional transportation costs, not purchasing in bulk, and not paying
invoices within the interest free period. The direct material price variance is neither favorable or
unfavorable because the cost of the product is the same. The direct quantiy variance is also

This coud be due to a number of things such as, employees horse playing at work, safety issues,

standard cost $1.00 less than the actual cost. This could be due to new workers with no
experience being hired or hiring temporary workers which are paid less. The direct labor time
had an unfavorable variance. This variance could be due to employees playing around instead of
working, a problem with the equipment, such as the machinery is in need of repair or

Abstract Migration, Remittances, Poverty and Inequality The Philippines By Ernesto M. Pernia
The paper looks into the effects of international migration and remittances on household incomes
and well being, poverty reduction, human capital investment, saving, and regional development in
the home country. Remittances appear to raise average incomes for all income groups but more so
for the richer households than for the poorer ones, a finding that is consistent with that in several
Latin American countries. Such eyeballing of the data is supported by econometric analysis which
further reveals that remittances enhance household savings, spending on education and health care,
and help the poor move out of poverty. Analysis at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because international migrants typically are among the better educated and experienced
workers in the home country, their departure often results in a disruption of economic activity
before the vacancies are filled. And even when these are filled, the situation may not be the same
as before. Labor market responses would depend on the composition of emigration and the
nature of labor markets in terms of flexibility, segmentation, and rates of un and under
employment. Lucas (2005) reports two general types of outcomes: (i) where emigrant workers
are easily replaced with no discernible loss in output or rise in wages (e.g., India, Indonesia, and
Sri Lanka); and (ii) where upward pressure on wages is palpable (e.g., Pakistan, Philippines,
Mexico, Malawi, and Mozambique).1 In both cases, the labor market outcome appears to be
beneficial to those left behind. 1 Tan (2007), however, finds no significant upward pressure on
real wages in the Philippines and opines that, perhaps, employers decide to hire less qualified
replacement workers at prevailing wages instead of raising them to attract or retain highly skilled
personnel. 2 For example, while infant mortality rate had dropped to 29 per thousand in 2001, it is
higher than in Malaysia and Thailand; moreover, as much as 40% of women deliver babies without
an attending physician, nurse or

A Speech Congress, Frank Bowe, A Highly Educated Deaf Man
Individuals with disability have had a long history of maltreatment in America. From being
thought of as possessed individuals in need of exorcism, targeted for heinous experiments,
unknowingly sterilized, being labeled imbecile, feeble minded, and retarded, to being shipped
off to state schools or mental asylums, those with disabilities were given no consideration as a
valuable and able to contribute member of society. In a speech to congress, Frank Bowe, a highly
educated deaf man highlighted this claim by stating, we are not even second class citizens, we are
third class citizens (Bowe, F. 1977 need citation), and Jim Cherry (2001) furthered the ideal in his
words, that prior to 1970 we [disabled citizens] had no right to education, to employment, to
transportation, to housing, or to voting. There were no civil rights laws for us, no federal advocacy
grants. Few people looked beyond our medical needs (Cherry, J.L, 2001 http:/
/www.raggededgemagazine.com/0701/0701cov.htm). Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
attempted to fundamentally change how disabled people were reguarded.
Background History of Section 504
From Dorothea Dix in the 1800 s to Frank Bowe and the American Coalition of Citizens with
Disabilities (ACCD) in the 1970 s, many disability rights activist tried to win support for anti
discrimination laws. Many times, it was the parent advocates at the forefront, who were demanding
that their children be taken out of institutions and asylums, and

Evaluation Of A Psychiatric Treatment
1.) I would recommend that she undergo psychiatric treatment as well as crisis counseling.
Hospitalization would be required as she has expressed current suicidal thoughts to kill herself.
Since Brandy has had a suicidal plan already attempted, I would recommend to her family that I
be allowed to refer her to be immediately hospitalized for a minimum of 48 hours under the
psychiatric care of her psychiatrist. I would require that she is placed on a one to one suicide watch
either by a RN or mental aide technician while at the psychiatric hospital. I would also propose
that if she is taken off the recommended treatment due to clinical improvement she must be
regularly monitor according to hospital procedures. 2.) During her hospitalization, I would also
recommend that her psychiatrist prescribe Brandy medications as she will need pharmacotherapy
to be part of her treatment plan. I would recommend to her psychiatrist that she be placed on
antidepressants in order to decrease her suicidal ideation and depression. I would not recommend
that she be medicated with tricyclic antidepressants as they have been known to be lethal if a
patient overdoses. Prozac would be a recommended medication at a dosage of 20 40 mg per day or
Zoloft (50 200 mg per day). Paxil, Luvox, Effor, and Serzone are other antidepressants that could be
considered for her depression. 3.) After hospitalization, I would suggest that she continued her
treatment and care through my outpatient clinical

  • 2. Blue Whales Research Paper The Balaenoptera musculus, also known as the Blue Whale, is the largest animal in the world (Twister 1). These whales have been endangered since the eighteenth and nineteen hundreds and have been here as long as the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. They are members of the group of whales known as rorquals and are found in all the world s oceans. They live on the upper layers of the open sea and are mostly found along the edges of the continental shelves (Zimmerman 1). Their habitat consists of polar and subtropical waters. Their lifestyle is diurnal and their group behavior is solitary (A Z). These mammals may be extraordinary, but they are in vulnerable positions because of hunting, pollution, etc. Blue whales will result in extinction if we don t... • 3. Montgomery Bus Protest Summary Second, In Social Movements and Social Change Litigation: Synergy in the Montgomery Bus Protest by Christopher Coleman, Laurence D. Nee, and Leonard S. Rubinowitz, they explored how the arrest of Rosa Parks created momentum in the Montgomery bus protest in a time oppression and mistreatment to the Black community on the city s buses. Colored citizens of Montgomery faced discrimination on daily bases, for they had to use the bus transportation in order to function in society. After the arrest of Rosa Parks, the oppressed community grouped together and set, both direct action and legal strategies in motion with a one day boycott on the day of her trial and an effort to challenge the segregation laws as a defense to her prosecution (Coleman, Nee, Rubinowitz, 2005). Rosa Parks became the image of injustice of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These movement center in their community helped those who had a tough time getting around the city some transportation. This established was not as efficient as the public bus transportation but it, developed the capacities needed to execute what ultimately became a two pronged protest, encompassing nonviolent direct action in the form of the boycott and, later, litigation that reached the U.S. Supreme Court (Coleman, Nee, Rubinowitz, 2005). The protestor s altruism in the Montgomery was key to their in success, for it strengthen its claim for equality. • 4. Persuasive Essay On Homeless 47,725 or about 8% of the homeless population are veterans and 50% of the homeless people are over 50 years old in the U.S. Homelessness is an unsatisfactory issue that we as humans do not see the importance of the help they need. In our community, we take things for granted and not worry about the importance of helping others. The unfortunate people living in the streets have passed through difficult times and appreciate small or big things. Homeless is a person without a home, and therefore typically living on the streets. Some homeless people have become abusive of drugs, alcohol, and other different type of drugs. Homelessnessis a major problem in our society. Homelessness contaminates our city, makes our city look dirty, and it is priority to fix this problem. To begin, homelessness contaminates our city and spreads diseases like Hepatitis A, HIV /AIDS of sexually transmitted infections, virus and Tuberculosis. For example, when the unhoused go to the public bathroom, sometimes they do not clean themselves or wash their hands. During, the homeless pass it on to their neighbors or other living creatures and spread or contaminate with different types of diseases. Homeless contaminate our city by littering on the ground with plastic, foil, and other types of things that contaminate. Based on what I have seen, one example is when I go down to the Santa Ana Public Library my mom, sister, and I see that there are various amounts of trash on the ground. To include, when my family and I pass through the Angels Stadium in Anaheim I see that there are numerous homeless people that are contaminating our environment with plenty of diseases. To add, in the short story ВЁWhat do Fish Have to do With AnythingВЁ by Avi, it states that ВЁhis matted, streaky gray hair hung like a ragged curtain over his dirty face when describing the homeless man. As a matter of fact, the author states, his shoes were torn; he had rough hands that lay upon his knees; and his hand was palm up. No one seemed to pay him any attention and he begs for money. Because he is filthy, most likely he is carrying bacteria that may cause diseases. In my community, near the riverbed you can tell that the homeless leave their feces ... Celtics viewed animals as symbols of herosim, strength, beauty, evil, death , omens, and almost everything else in their daily lives. For example the dog was viewed as a spiritual guardian to its owner, a friend, and a tool that was depended on at times. Today their role hasn t changed much and still symbolizes everything they did to the celtics. We have a great friendship bond with our dogs, and can trust them with our lives. They are our guardians when we are distracted, and guard our homes at night. The celtics used greyhounds as gifts, and I can understand why. Greyhound dogs are built athletic and speed. • 6. Marketing Mix and Petrol Retail Outlet Marketing Mix and Petrol Retail Outlet As of December 2010, there were 207 petrol stations in Singapore. These stations are owned and operated by four major players in the petroleum retail industry. They are; Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte. Ltd (Shell), ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd (Esso), Chevron Corporation (Caltex) and Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC). In this essay, we ll be looking at how these four players apply the Marketing Mix in running their petrol stations across Singapore. Marketing Mix is defined as A combination of the product itself, the price of the product, the place where it is made available and the activities that introduce it to consumers that creates a desired response among a set of predefined consumers. ... When there is an increase or decrease on pump prices by a particular player, it was observed that it took between 1 to 48 hours for the rest to follow suit (Ministry of Trade and Industry, 2011), with price increase usually taking a longer time to complete. In terms of marketing strategy, the longer you hold your price lower, the more customer you will be able to attract. As for lowering prices, the first to do so will have the advantage. Most items sold in the convenience shops of petrol stations are usually priced higher than those in regular supermarkets. This is due to the fact that they operate 24 hours. Nevertheless, consumers are willing to pay the higher prices for the sake of convenience as they are already at that location. As mentioned above, people are able to do quick shopping while waiting for their vehicles to be refuelled. Sales promotion is defined as short termed incentives to encourage the purchase or sale of a product or service (Kotler, 2001, p 559). As Shell is a major sponsor in the Formula 1 racing circuit, it is not surprising that they have sales promotions that are linked to the Formula 1. While infants are still discovering most of their sensors, touch is important because higher levels of touch between parent and infant (e.g., skin to skin contact, affectionate touch, tactile game play) have been linked to secure attachment relationships, more positive social responses in infants, and positive, reciprocal parent infant interactions.. (577). Interactions between parent and infants through touch are important to visualize whether the infant is responding to reflexes, or involuntary movements. For example, when a child is touched on the cheek, most likely the baby will respond by turning their heads toward the direction of the hand. Abnormal touch and unresponsive reflexes can link to autism symptoms in children such as unresponsive to sensory stimuli. Tactile games such as holding a toy above them can monitor whether the baby is responding back or distracted and is unable to focus. Autism Speaks, describes research done on their article, Eye Contact Declines Early in Babies Who Later Develop Autism by explaining that babies are placed in front of a monitor that shows their mother speaking to them and showing their fingers and other movements to get the babies full attention. • 8. Bel Canto Summary The title of the book that I read was Bel Canto. Bel Canto was written by Ann Patchett, and published in 2001. The setting of this work of literature is known to be in South America; however, the country within the continent is unknown. One theme, that can be drawn from this work is that a one of the most basic human impulses is civilizing with other humans. Many people believe that if a group of people were in captivity, then they would immediately resort to violence and trying to dominate each other. However, Bel Canto suggest that, if put in that same situation, that the human impulse would not be violence, but that our first impulse would be to civilize with one another. One important but minor character is Mr. Messner. Mr. Messner is the Swiss representative for the Red Cross, to be the hostage negotiator. The terrorist end up liking Messner, so he is the only person, in the book, that is allowed to come and go from the mansion. Being that voice of reason from the outside, is Messner s main job, because even though he is in the mansion throughout the months, he can still see the situation objectively. In the last chapter, Messner becomes more of an important character by giving the readers more sense of urgency, when he keeps reminding the terrorist that a negotiation needs to happen or else their dystopian society will be ruined. At the end, Messner was right when many of the terrorist, and Mr. Hosokawa, were shot and killed. As stated in the first paragraph, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. What Is Transitioning To Implementation Plan Transitioning to Implementation Throughout the course of this planning guide, we have discussed various strategies to implement when undergoing the process of strategic planning. However, the most vital factor to keep in the back of our minds, as we strategically plan is to think if we choose that strategy, how would we implement? In thinking like this, planners should be careful that they do not develop a plan that is so intentionally achievable that no one has to do anything to implement leading to one of the common downfalls of implementation (Zuckerman, 2016) or so impossible that there is no way to implement it. Acknowledging this is what makes this guide so crucial for the plan to be fulfilled. In this section of the guide, we will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How do we Communicate? A formal, highly inclusive, and informative roll out of the strategic plan should assist in facilitating implementation (Zuckerman, 2016). The Rhode Island Welcome Back Center should consider a communication plan to accompany the newly developed strategic plan. According to Pilkington (2016), a good communication strategy is nothing without a plan to deliver it, and a plan is of no value without a strategy to guide it. The purpose of the plan is to inform, involve and excite constituents on the changes to come (Zuckerman, 2016). The plan should focus on who the communication will address (Senior management, board, donors, volunteers and staff), what, how and when the communication will be released. DEADLY SIN: The strategy is communicated on a need to know basis rather than freely throughout the organization (Zuckerman, 2016). Plan Review and Progress Monitoring. Strategic planning is a dynamic process; therefore, it is never completed (Allison Kaye, 2011). Therefore, progress must be monitored on a regular basis during implementation and adjusted as needed (Zuckerman, 2016). The monitoring of the strategic plan involves ensuring that plan goals and objectives are being met. The Rhode Island Welcome Back Center should create a formal process to track and monitor strategic goals and objectives either monthly or bimonthly and if satisfactory progress is made, then the monitoring process can change to ... • 11. A Brief History Of The Mayan Civilization A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MAYAN CIVILIZATION Michael Costa History 157: History of Latin America May 8, 2015 Mayan civilization peaked too early to impress the Spanish in the manner of the Inca and Aztec empires. The great Mayan ceremonial centers visited by modern tourists were all in ruin when the Spanish arrived in the 1500s. In fact, the highpoint of Mayan imperial organization was almost a thousand years earlier. Mayan city states were located in high mountains, in densely forested tropical lowlands, and on the arid YucatГЎn peninsula. Like the Mexicas (and other indigenous people of central Mexico), the Maya built stone pyramids, but they did not dedicate any to human sacrifice. Mayan cities contained ball courts where opposing teams tried to get a rubber ball through a stone hoop. The game was not a sport, but a ritual, and often a matter of life and death. Mayan writing, composed of symbols called glyphs, was the most elaborate created by any indigenous civilization. In an attempt to eradicate Mayan indigenous religious belief, the Spanish conquistadors burned large collections of Mayan writings. The Mayan language lives on today, but its linguistic fragmentation mirrors the political fragmentation of the city states. Modern Mayan is a family of languages, rather than a single language. QuichГ© and Mam, two modern Mayan languages, are no more alike than English and German or French and Italian. Life was good to those lucky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I can think of a few industries where the managers are hard to find and the owners and founders even harder. People with valuable experience may not be available to some of you reading right now. For the rest of us here, on the other hand, finding someone who could advise us and answer questions isn t as difficult. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the Trenches where Siegfried Sasson describes the trenches as if it is like hell meaning that war was like a place where young people went and got themselves killed. On the first line of Died of Wounds, Siegfried Sasson wrote Wet White , which is alliteration, which is a type of sound device. He also does this on the third line, ninth line and the last line. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the Trenches, where the author also uses this device to make the poem catchier but instead uses different letters to make it sound different and better. • 15. Miles Davis Influence Question 11 Miles Davis was one of the greatest and most important figures in jazz history. Miles Dewey Davis III was a musician, composer, arranger, producer and bandleader all in one. Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in jazz after World War 2. He was one of the most influential and innovative musicians of the twentieth century along with Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong. His versatility landed him at the forefront of bebop, cool jazz, modal, hard bop and fusion (Kirker, 2005:1). His sound went on to influence many other newer forms of music today such as pop, soul, R amp;B, funk and rap. Hard bop was the evolvement and development from bop during the 1950s and 1960s, often regarded as a reaction to the restraint and intellectualism of cool jazz (Kingman, 1990:389). With the installation of the Miles Davis Quintet, Davis picked up where his late forties sessions left off. Eschewing the rhythmic and harmonic complexity of the prevalent bebop, Davis was given space to play long, legato and essentially melodic lines, where he would begin to explore modal music, his lifelong obsession. Modal jazz is a new venture for jazz both harmonically and structurally, it no longer used the chord progressions of standard tunes as the basis for improvisation replaced by a succession of scales on which the performer improvised instead (Kingman, 1990:390). Davis had definitely gone a long way in his trumpet playing since collaborating with Parker. No longer dependant on bebop phrasing, he chose a minimalist approach instead. Ornate phrasing gave way to a smattering of tones. He was also utilizing a Harmon mute, sometimes adding reverb, which had a whisper effect and personalised his sound. Elements of texture and silence between notes were becoming more dominant (Kirker, 2005:2). By 1958, he had freed himself by using modal scales and slower moving harmonies. The branch of law we know as negligence has been in development since the establishment of a duty of care for one s neighbour in Donoghue v Stevenson . In that case, Lord Atkin laid down general principles whereby a person would owe another a duty of care, the most important being you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure your neighbour . It is arguable that other losses which result from tort could possibly be described as economic loss; however, the true definition of economic loss involves someone who has suffered financial damage that does not result from personal injury or damage to property. In Spartan Steel Alloys Ltd v Martin Co (Contractors) Ltd , the defendants were negligent in cutting an electric cable, which then resulted in a 14 hour power cut in the area. This affected a number of properties including the claimant s factory. With no power available to heat the claimant s furnace in his factory, the metal there solidified and was ruined. The claimant was also required to shut his factory temporarily. Civil litigation was initiated by the claimant for damage to ruined metal (which constituted physical damage to property), loss of the profit that would have been made had that metal been sold (labelled as economic loss arising from damage to property) and loss of profit the factory would have made had it not been forced to close (pure economic loss). A majority of the Court of Appeal held that only the first two heads of claim were recoverable. The defendant owed a duty of care to the claimant not to damage their property but no duty of care was owed with regard to loss of profit. It was found that it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is an adaptation of the novella Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption, written by Stephen King. The film received a lot of critical acclaim and was nominated for the 1994 Best Picture Academy Award. Many of King s literary works had been adapted to screen prior to the release of The Shawshank Redemption. Films including Stand By Me (1986) and The Shining (1980) establish King s name in the cinematic world. This notoriety would have been beneficial to the film as the director, Frank Darabont, had only ever directed a short film before, which was coincidentally also an adaptation of Stephen Kings The Woman In The Room. Fidelity can be difficult to accomplish when adapting written text to the screen as there are a different set of rules and limitations. Where a novel may have hundreds of pages, a film only has a few hours to convey the same message and meaning to the audience. A film must show the events whereas a written text can tell the reader what occurred. In the novella, Red is introduced before Andy. The entire story is from his point of view. As the narrator of the novella, Red feels that before he can talk about Andy he has to explain a few other things about [him]self (2012, p.4). Sometimes it takes the form of Adopt a Highway participation, or the sponsorship of a local free clinic s fundraising banquet. This speaks to the concept of Enlightened Self Interest , in which these contributions encourage potential customers to do business with the company, while actively helping the wider community. Conversely, bad customer service experiences not only decrease community happiness, but they also decrease a company s bottom line. People listen to stories of bad service, thirsting for juicy details, and so not only will an upset customer consider leaving your company, but potential customers may never do business with you. Reinforcement follows an operant and increases the likelihood of the operant being repeated. There are two forms of reinforcement: positive and negative reinforcement. When an event occurs producing a positive effect, it is considered positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement involves the removal of a stimulus increasing the likelihood of a positive effect. An example of this would be to take two aspirins to remove the pain from a headache. Punishment is a process that decreases the likelihood of a behavior to occur again. This is not to be confused with negative reinforcement because it doesn t increase the likelihood of an occurrence. There are drawbacks to punishment. It doesn t teach an appropriate behavior to replace an inappropriate one. Also, intense punishment can lead to results such as passivity, fear, anxiety, or hostility. Finally, effects of punishment are sometimes temporary. An alternative to punishment is trying to change the behavior of others. First, stop reinforcing the problem behavior by identifying the reinforcer and eliminating it. The Afrikaners created the National Party and this ethnic group of dominantly white politicians became fearful of the South Africans as numerically they were out numbered. In order to remain the dominant group and continue to hold political power, the Dutch Afrikaners created 317 government laws which were related to ethnic segregation and restrictions based upon race. The purpose for creating the discriminating laws were to maintain the white domination of the society and laws were designed to acknowledge the rights of the white people but at the same time deny the rights of those who were non white. The first order of business for the Nationalist Party was to separate the population of South Africa according to race, geographic locations, social and political separation. According to the Library of Congress, apartheid s legislation states that the Population Registration Act of 1950 in which the organization in charge of the racial classification was conducted by the Department of Home Affairs, designed to divide the country s population according to race. The Department of Home Affairs was responsible for recording people by their racial group and as a result of the group members were treated differently. It follows the story of 32 year old Jay Gatsby, from the perspective of newcomer Nick Carraway. He moves to West Egg, and settles down next to Gatsby, who throws lavish parties for the neighborhood. Eventually, we find out that Gatsby is pining away for Daisy Buchanan, his love five years previous. He pursues her, but it turns out to be his pitfall. In the end, Daisy accidentally hits someone, for which Gatsby takes the blame and gets shot while swimming by the husband of the woman Daisy hit. The tragic ending can be attributed to one person; Jay Gatsby. He was responsible for this terrible tragedy because he lied about his character, he refused to deal with the present situation, and he ruined Tom and Daisy s marriage. Gatsby is responsible for his own regrettable ending because of his dishonesty and deception. He was dishonest about a lot of things. He lied about his job, his past, and does nothing to dismiss the wild rumors surrounding him. Two of these include that he was a German spy, and that he killed a man once. When they first met when Gatsby was as a poor soldier, he was dishonest to Daisy about his wealth as well. She said he acted rich , and he did not correct her. This leads to the whole misunderstanding and rage at the end of the novel when Jay is exposed by Tom for how he made his money. • 43. The Resistance Of Bacteria And Antibiotics The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is becoming a grave and global medical problem. This is because whenever antibiotics are taken the development of resistance is a given consequence; bacteria adapt to changing environmental conditions through the continuous process of evolution. The main issue with antibiotics is not whether but when antibiotic resistancewill occur. This resistance is caused by the lack of new antibiotics available and continuing over prescription of antibiotics. Any bacteria that acquire resistance alleles, by either random mutation or genetic exchange with other bacteria, have the capability to resist multiple antibiotics. Therefore, the process of bacteria gaining multiple resistance attributes over time gives bacteria the ability to become resistant to many different families of antibiotics. Nosocomial infections are, in particular, an progressively prevalent problem. This is because weakened immune systems of hospital patients make them particularly vulnerable to infection. E. coli is frequent cause of infection, especially in the urinary tract. This means patients catheters could easily be at risk to a resistant strand of E.coli. • 45. Symbols In Heart Of Darkness Africa s Darkness Darkness refers to the evil acts of another person. These evil acts can symbolize darkness in any situation, such as violence, discrimination, and other cruel acts that people experience daily. Acts of darkness could cause harm to an individual physically or emotionally. In the novel, Heart of Darknessby Joseph Conrad, the word darkness is used to symbolize many events that happened in the continent of Africa. Three events that symbolize the word darkness are the Europeans cruel behaviors, Kurtz s selfishness, and Marlow s sexist statements. One event in the novel that displayed darkness was when the Europeans were cruel to the Africans. The main character, Marlow, went on a voyage to the Congo River. When Marlow arrived in Africa, he recognized that the Africans were being treated in an evil manner. In the novel, Marlow states, They were dying slowly it was very clear. Remittances appear to raise average incomes for all income groups but more so for the richer households than for the poorer ones, a finding that is consistent with that in several Latin American countries. Such eyeballing of the data is supported by econometric analysis which further reveals that remittances enhance household savings, spending on education and health care, and help the poor move out of poverty. Because international migrants typically are among the better educated and experienced workers in the home country, their departure often results in a disruption of economic activity before the vacancies are filled. And even when these are filled, the situation may not be the same as before. Labor market responses would depend on the composition of emigration and the nature of labor markets in terms of flexibility, segmentation, and rates of un and under employment. Lucas (2005) reports two general types of outcomes: (i) where emigrant workers are easily replaced with no discernible loss in output or rise in wages (e.g., India, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka); and (ii) where upward pressure on wages is palpable (e.g., Pakistan, Philippines, Mexico, Malawi, and Mozambique).1 In both cases, the labor market outcome appears to be beneficial to those left behind. 1 Tan (2007), however, finds no significant upward pressure on real wages in the Philippines and opines that, perhaps, employers decide to hire less qualified replacement workers at prevailing wages instead of raising them to attract or retain highly skilled personnel. 2 For example, while infant mortality rate had dropped to 29 per thousand in 2001, it is higher than in Malaysia and Thailand; moreover, as much as 40% of women deliver babies without an attending physician, nurse or ... From being thought of as possessed individuals in need of exorcism, targeted for heinous experiments, unknowingly sterilized, being labeled imbecile, feeble minded, and retarded, to being shipped off to state schools or mental asylums, those with disabilities were given no consideration as a valuable and able to contribute member of society. In a speech to congress, Frank Bowe, a highly educated deaf man highlighted this claim by stating, we are not even second class citizens, we are third class citizens (Bowe, F. 1977 need citation), and Jim Cherry (2001) furthered the ideal in his words, that prior to 1970 we [disabled citizens] had no right to education, to employment, to transportation, to housing, or to voting.
