Abstract
There is no way to tell of the thousands of people that have been executed, which were innocent.
Since 1973 more than 150 people have been released from prison with evidence of innocence.
Studies have shown that the death penalty has zero to no effect on violent crimes, and it is an
amazing waste of taxpaying money. They were wrongfully imprisoned due to mistaken
eyewitness testimony, faulty forensic science, and false confession as a result of wrongdoing by
the police and finally racial biased. That was just a minimal list of reasons a case could go
wrong. There are many reasons why someone would be against the death penalty. For example,
there are strong religious beliefs that one might have, the death penalty is and expression of the
absolute power of the state. As of October 2015 there have been over 1,414 individuals in this
country alone lethally executed. In the issue of the death penalty it all goes back to whether the
death penalty deters future crime. I feel that one solution to this issue would be to get rid of the
death penalty altogether.
Keywords: death penalty, execution, prison, innocent.

5. The Handmaid s Tale Analysis
Fictional dystopias assert their authority through ownership. They own the properties, the
people, the processes (birth, giving jobs... etc) and control nearly every facet of a citizen s life.
This all consuming ownership permits these societies to tightly regulate different aspects of
society for its citizens. This control leads to very limited freedom for a citizen. And yet, one key
part of society that tends to be overlooked is space. While regulated to some degree, dystopian
governments and authority figures cannot truly control how a space is used and what it offers.
This can lead to freedom. As seen in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, several characters
own their individual spaces and don t follow Gilead s rules within that space.... Show more content

In Gilead, the women, or the Handmaids at least, are not allowed to read. When Offred finds
limited sources of print, like a pillow in her room, she reads it over several times. I can spend
minutes, tens of minutes, running my eyes over the print: FAITH. It s the only thing they ve
given me to read. If I were caught doing it, would it count? (Atwood 57). Despite it being only
one word, Offred worries of being caught reading it. And even though it is a single word, she
can spend more time than usual reading it. This speaks as to how far Gilead goes to to prevent
reading materials reaching the Handmaidens. When Offred receives an invitation to the
Commander s office she feels nervous. There s protocol against going into the office and Nick
gives her no clue of what will happen. The last thing she expects the Commander to desire is a
game of Scrabble, an intellectual pursuit. This is freedom, an eyeblink of it. Limp, I spell.
Gorge. What a luxury (Atwood 139). While Offred loses herself in the game she still remains
cautious. I win the first game, I let him win the second: I still haven t discovered what the terms

intellectually express herself that she highly enjoys playing Scrabble and considers playing a
luxury . She also recognizes how wrong an authority figure of Gilead would find her playing the
game so well and purposefully loses the second game to throw off the Commander. He however,
enjoys playing Scrabble with and continues doing so throughout the book. He even offers to step
up how far she can intellectually express herself and allows her to read books and magazines in
the office. And even though she should not be reading and recognizes it, he also recognizes the
power of the space his office holds. It s not permitted, I said. In here, it is, he said quietly... beyond

customize the off the shelf package to meet the requirements that Harley Davidson has
developed when the best practices fell short. Since the company had already established specific
goals that they needed this software to accomplish, looking at the overall functionality of the

EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY:
BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR
ABSTRACT
The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit
sector; a sector that has just recently begun to embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that
brand communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are
particularly compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of
brand communities already exist to some extent within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of
charitable organizations. The article offers a number of research propositions for research into the
influence of brand community markers and mechanisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget,
over 5% of gross income according to Smith (1980). Individuals also donate a substantial portion of
their time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial
contributions (Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity donor
relationship is so important to charitable organizations. However, a study conducted for the Direct
Marketing Association revealed that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful
relationships with nonprofit organizations (Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for
close relationships does not guarantee full coffers or a full roster of volunteers. For although baby
boomers indicate that they intend to give more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater
accountability for how their donations are used, as well as tangible evidence of the good that this
money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a). The goal of the current paper is to extend the
concept of brand community to the nonprofit sector. Although this sector is nascent with respect to
its appreciation for, and adoption of, relationship marketing, it is believed that the brand community

9. Graffiti Is Not Art Essay
Art. Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a
visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their
beauty or emotional power. (google). That s kind of a lot. Basically, art is anything created as a
product of human creativity and imagination to portray a message, trigger an emotion, or just,
look good. That being said, what isn t art? Anything, from the mona lisa to the projects sitting
around this room were made by human imagination and creativity to portray a message or just be
beautiful. What if you were told, that all of the hard work that was put into those projects and
paintings, was illegal? Not accepted by some people as art, and frowned upon.
Graffiti is a controversial topic in some areas that would say that graffiti can t be considered art.
But how can t it be considered art? Does the location or the message of the art make it any less
art? How much do people even know about graffiti, which is judged upon so hard in today s era?
Graffiti has been used many times in history to preserve and show political and religious ideas
of the past. Street artists are preserving the history that is deemed illegal at this time. Graffiti
itself is history, and it tells stories as well as preserving cities and adding a creative aspect to
everyday life. The ...first forms of scripture and storytelling ... were through drawings on walls.
Stories passed through generations... were preserved on rocks or walls. (Lloyd, Alexis). Now
street artists are simply doing the same, whether it s murals, tags, or people just messing around;
They are preserving the unique cultures that we have today, or trying to make a name for
themselves through art, or portray a political message. 85% of graffiti is just tags. (Akbar, Airfa).
People s names or words made to look interesting. People trying to preserve their name through
art. And this is considered a crime. Splashing your political views on a building through a mural to
some people is offensive and the fact that this is illegal is a violation of the 1st amendment. Making
graffiti or street art illegal is limiting an expression of people s ideas and religion.

currency have made important differences in the course of human civilization by the wheel
enabling things to be effortless and by currency contributing power and control over people and
causing conflicts. Back in 3500 B.C., the wheel was invented. This simple creation has greatly
impacted human civilization. It was first designed as a pottery wheel, enabling people to easily
create pots vases, and other pottery more efficiently than with their hands. Over the years,
people began using the pottery wheel to make beautiful art, as well. People can make intricate
designs on vases as beautiful art to put on display. It has made an important difference in the
course of human civilization as the pottery wheel by providing a more productive and practical
way to make pottery and furnishing an outlet for people to express themselves through pottery
art. The wheel did not stop at pottery. Pulleys utilize the wheel to lift heavy objects effortlessly.

Intro: The discourse of film is a questionable field of study in its own respect. To say whether a
film is influence or not by another medium is a problematic area as there are many factors to
account for which can influence an artist s project. In Philip Lutgendorf s article, Is There An
Indian Way of Filmmaking? (2006), he attempts to suggest how texts from the Indian cultural
heritage could be used for the discourse of both Indian cinema as well as to the study of cinema
itself, which justifies discussion. This essay will attempt to challenge Lutgendorf s ideas within his
article through Hayao Miyazakis film, Spirited Away(2001) through the discussion of manga
/animae origin, Japanese mythology, and genre hybridity.
Plot Summary: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manga literally translates to informal drawings or impromptu sketches , and are the Japanese
equivalent to comic books. New Treasure Island featured many western influences such as the
use of big eyes, which is noticeable in Walt Disney s work. Ultimately, Tezuka laid the
foundations for modern manga. Because of manga s large popularity, it went onto the filmic
medium known as animae. Like manga and its early development, animae has had help in its
creative development. The large sum of aid in the growth of animae was western influences in
cartooning, such as Walt Disney, as well as literature from works from Lewis Carroll s Alice in
Wonderland (1865) and L. Frank Baum s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900). Spirited Away
contains influences of both Alice in Wonderland as well as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz since
both Chihiro, Dorothy, and Alice are lost in a fantastical world which they know nothing about, and
face a female power hungry antagonist who attempts to stop their desire to go back home.
Para. 1: Referring back to the origins of manga and animae, these art forms were created to repress
the American influence over Japan through the revival of traditional Japanese art practices such as
woodblock paintings, and jojЕЌ ga literally translated to sentimental , or lyrical painting , which
was created by Yumeji Takehisa (1884 1934), and often depicted portrait paintings of Japanese

To give an opinion on whether or not the Economic Community of West African States

optimal currency area was defined by Pilbeam (2013) as A region for which it is optimal to have

currency area it must fulfil certain criteria, it is unlikely to fulfil all of the criteria entirely, but to

Financial Integration
This concerns a country s ability to gain external financing. If a country has a high level of financial
integration with the countries surrounding it then it would be able to finance its deficits without the
need to alter the exchange rate and its monetary policy. Therefore an economic community with a
high level of financial integration would be well suited to a monetary union. In the ECOWAS
there are signs of progress towards a higher level of financial integration. This can be seen through
the establishment of the single banking commission (Commission Bancaire de l UMOA) that was
created in 1990 to strengthen regional banking supervision. A regional commercial legal
framework (Organisation pour l Harmonisation du Droit des Affaires en Afrique OHADA) was put
in place in 1996. And cross border restrictions have been lifted on banking and other financial
services excluding insurance. (Amadou, 2006)

Problem Solving, Community Oriented Policing and Abington s Approach to Policing.
Problem Solving policing is an officer s ability to assess and properly address any given situation.

Mrs Ann Smith is a seventy nine year old woman and she has several problems regarding her
health and well being in her elderly age. Many policies and legislation ensure the safety and well
being of the elderly such as Mrs Smith. Legislation and policies safeguard the elderly including Mrs
Smith to receive the fair treatment of care and to stop discrimination and exclusion. Discrimination
and exclusion is still prevalent today and within contemporary society the ageing population is
rising, discrimination and exclusion could increase if it is not appropriately tackled by
contemporary society today. There are numerous theories of ageing, some theories are
disengagement theory, and the activity theory and these theories have developed key concepts and
the effects of ageing on individuals and contemporary society today.
Discriminating against age and ageism is unfairly treating people and differently because of their
age (Age UK, 2012). Age discrimination and ageism can lead to social exclusion, isolation, and
loneliness throughout the elderly community. Age discrimination is illegal and detrimental to the
elderly; however, any form of treatment whilst it may be different can be good. Bus passes and

group, and legislation still permits these benefits to remain. Direct discrimination is when a person

Two of the most well known, moving women in history are Harriet Tubman, the slave freer, and
Rosa Parks, the brave rebel. Many people know about these two women, but have more than likely
not drawn a connection between the two of them. There are a few different areas that can help to
develop one s perception about the impact of these two women. As children these two women were
raised to be strong, independent, and influential. These childhoods led to their participation in two
massively important movements in American history. On top of all of these areas, an understanding
of the similarities and differences between the two can help one to realize the relationship that they
share. The last facet to the understanding of these historic leaders is to comprehend their
involvement in society and their movements at a detailed level. Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubmanare
two highly influential women in United States history who have some noticeable similarities
and differences. Harriet Tubman was born a slave around 1820 in Maryland. Even though she
was given the name Araminta by her primary owner, she decided to go against him and name
herself after her mother, Harriet Ross. Harriet never received an education because she was a
slave, but she was recognized for her usual strength and put into the field to work (Kranz and

23. Jealousy, Love, And Death
Shakespeare is known for his use of recurring themes, particularly those of betrayal, love, and
death. These themes are present in Othello. However, the most dynamic of themes in this play is
jealousy. White describes jealousy as a complex of thoughts, feelings, and actions which follow
threats to self esteem and/or threats to the existence or quality of a relationship (qtd in UK essays
par 1). Two types of jealousyare presented to the audience in Othello; the kind of jealousy that is
fear of losing what one has, and the kind that is envious of what others have. Jealousy is a
prevalent theme in Othello; it is rooted by love and hope, and it leads to betrayal and death.
Because of the evil nature of jealousy, the play unfolds under the authority of Iago, who uses
jealousy to drive the characters actions, and ultimately concludes in the downfall of a noble man
(UK Essays par 1). The audience is presented with examples of both forms of jealousy as themes
in Othello. The two themes of jealousy differ, but are also quite similar. The envious jealousy is
portrayed by two of the main characters, Roderigo and Iago. Both men are willing to do anything
it takes to get what they want. In the beginning of the play, Roderigo, a rich gentleman, and Iago,
the villain, are introduced to the audience. Iago is envious of Cassio, who was chosen by Othello
to be his lieutenant. Roderigo is jealous of Othello marrying Desdemona, with whom Roderigo is
in love. Iago s jealousy leads him to

The most important theme in this book was the trials and tribulations of racism because it was
woven in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a
connection to current events, helping the reader s comprehension. Each twist and turn of the
story had hints of association with the struggles of racism. From the trial in court to the
discovery of the body to the flashbacks of back stories of the characters, this theme was
delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he
couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one would offer to defend the enemy . They were

As they only associated with others of their race, they were untrusting and distant from others.
Kabuo didn t even trust the lawyer who was to keep him out of prison. As the book switches time
frames, there were subtle or evident signs of challenges of racial tension everywhere. You could

situation. Many of the conflicts in the book were based off

26. The Impact Of The Colorado Gold Rush
If you had the opportunity to get rich off of gold, would you? Would you be willing to leave
everything you have behind to move thousands of miles across the country just for gold? In
1859, the answer for many people was yes. Word of gold found throughout Colorado spread
across the country and launched the Pike s Peak Gold Rush or also known as the Colorado Gold
Rush. There are several significant events in Colorado history that have had an influential impact
on the state we know today. The Colorado Gold Rush, in 1859, was the most significant event in
Colorado History for several reasons: the rush attracted thousands of people to our state, initiated the
miningof other resources, succored farming and ranching throughout the state, and boosted the
economy of the towns here in Colorado; these benefits of the rush continue to play a role in our
state still today. Because of the Colorado Gold Rush, people swarmed into the state with the
optimism of becoming rich. Even though many of these people were go backers, the people that
did stay assisted in the development of mining towns all throughout the state. A Pike s Peak
journalist described the flocking of people claiming thousands from the farther East swarmed into
the Missouri valley towns, and enough hardy souls crossed the Plains in the fall of 1858 to give the
newly founded towns of Auraria and Denver at the mouth of Cherry creek on the South Platte about
125 cabins, huts, and tents by Christmas. The gold rush

27. The Difference between Terrorism and Domestic Terrorism Essay
The terms terrorism and domestic terrorism are very similar concepts. There are, however, slight
differences in each. Entities that are apart of the Government have slightly different ways of
explaining what they believe to be the correct definition of terrorism and domestic terrorism. In this
paper the author will offer definitions of the two terms and state which one they agree with the
most. The author will also state how the two terms are best differentiated.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines terrorism on the basis of three characteristics. In
order for an act to be considered terrorism, it needs to be (1) a violent act, or acts dangerous to
human life that violates laws; (2) appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or ... Show more content on

They elucidate that terrorism is a premeditated, politically motivated, violence perpetrated against
noncombatant targets by subnational groups of clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an
audience, (National Institute of Justice).
All of the definitions that the author has presented tend to share a common theme. In each of the
previous definitions, the use of force that is intended to coerce or sway a course of action that
furthers a social, or political goal. In most cases, the FBI definition is the one most widely used
and accepted by law enforcement entities (National Institute of Justice). The author seconds that the
FBI definition is the one that she agrees with the most. The FBI definition seems like the only one
that doesn t leave anything out. It is the most descriptive, and unlike the American Heritage
definition, it broadens the scope of terrorists from being a certain type of group to the possibility of
it being just one man or woman.
The FBI also gives a definition of domestic terrorism that is very similar to its definition of
terrorism, but has a minor difference. Like terrorism, there are three characteristics that need to be
met in order to define an act as domestic terrorism. The first characteristic is that it needs to
involve acts that are dangerous to human life that violate federal or state laws. The second
characteristic is it needs to appear intended to (i) intimidate or coerce civilian population; (ii)

28. Disadvantages Of Pharmaparticles As A Drug Delivery System
INTRODUCTION Drug delivery Systems Drug delivery systems (DDS) have been developed in
order to control pharmacological parameters such as bioavailability, biodistribution and
pharmacokinetics of the administered substances. Bioavailability is defined as the percentage of an
administered dose of therapeutic agent that becomes available in the systemic circulation in its
active form. Drug delivery systems can enhance bioavailability by increasing in vivohalf lives of
fragile pharmaceuticals e.g. protection of proteins from enzymatic degradation or by changing their
chemical characteristics e.g. improving solubility of hydrophobic moieties. Biodistribution is
defined as the percentage of an administered drug that becomes deposited into specific organs
throughout the body at specific time points. Drug delivery systems can alter the biodistribution of a
drug by active targeting of specific cell types, passive targeting (accumulation in certain tissues),
retention at the injection site or by helping to cross biological barriers.... Show more content on

loading is relatively high and drugs can be incorporated into the systems without any chemical

We have all had days where we just need one little piece of toast browned to perfection and not
have to turn on an entire oven and heat up the whole kitchen in the process. Or other times when

evening and a pizza sounds amazing except the kitchen is still blazing from a record setting heat
wave blasting through, and the last thing you want to do is generate more heat in your kitchen.
The list of examples could go on and on as to why a toaster oven is an extremely essential kitchen

Along with saving money on energy because of its stature, the small size allows the toaster oven to
fit just about anywhere in the kitchen. Due to its compact size, a toaster oven can sit on top of
other appliances or on countertops, making it an easy appliance to place in the kitchen.
The size you choose determines what items you can cook inside. Obviously, the larger the toaster
oven, the higher the cost. However, considering you can use your toaster oven in much the same
way you can use a conventional oven, investing in a larger toaster oven is prudent.
Different Cooking Elements
Toaster ovens have various cooking elements, depending on what you are looking for. Many of
them come with a convection function. This means generated heat is continually circulated
throughout the oven by means of a fan. The movement creates an even cooking environment,
ensuring that the top and the bottom are cooked evening. That means heat spots are eliminated:
one area of a pan of cookies does not cook more than another. Convection ovens also cut cooking
down by almost a third, saving you not only time but also electricity and of course,

30. Figurative Blindness In Oedipus The King
Although blindness and sight seem diametrically opposed, they are more similar to each other
than it would seem. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and
literal blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not
understand his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has
suffered with his whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more
harmful than literal blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him.
Oedipus, even though he can see with his own eyes, is completely clueless to what is happening
around him in Thebes. First of all, he thinks his parents are Polybus and Merope of Corinth,... Show

This illustrates the pattern of blindness that is prevalent throughout Greek plays. Literal vision
is clearly seen as not helpful unless you can actually see what is going on. Oedipus s figurative
sight comes from his understanding of his true parentage. And for him, receiving true sight
necessitates shaking off the distractions of literal vision. The second important problem with
Oedipus s sight is that it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of
all, Oedipus questions the blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes.
Oedipus forensically questions Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is
clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic. Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless,
witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine 1238). In reality, it is Oedipus who lacks sight and sense
and Teiresias who possesses these in abundance. Oedipus talks in the language of rational inquiry,
of the courts and of those new sciences that were already displacing the theologically based
sciences that were already

Smallpox has been believed to be a prominent killer for thousands of years. Before 900 AD
smallpox and measles were easily interchangeable to many physicians. These two diseases
possessed similar symptoms, such as fevers and rashes, making it very difficult to distinguish
between them. It was not until the Persian physician, Rhazes Ar Raz Abmiz, that measles and
smallpox were able to be clinically distinguished in 900 AD. Much later in 1751, Thomas
Sydenham found further differentiating characteristics between the two diseases(Aufderheide,

With the development of the vaccine, laws requiring vaccination soon appeared in many
countries(McNeil, 166). When deaths from the vaccination itself outnumbered the reported deaths
from actual smallpox in 1970, many countries decided to discontinue the vaccination. Today
smallpox has been eradicated from the planet; many are still worried that it will be used for
bioterrorism as it was by the British army who attempted to infect representatives of the Delaware
Indians with two infected blankets during the 1763 Pontiac s Rebellion(Hopkins, 16).
Smallpox has been seen throughout history. In ancient records the Lesser Pox has been believed
to refer to smallpox while the Greater Pox is syphilis. It has also been referred to as the petite
verole(McNeil, 166). This human unique disease resembles both cowpox and monkeypox.
Smallpox is caused by two virus variants. One is Variola minor, which is the lesser harmful
variant. It is usually referred to as alastrim. Its mortality rate is only 1% of its victims. On the
other hand, its far more harmful virus relative, Variola major, has a mortality rate of 20 40% of its

In order for this disease to spread among individuals, a non immune person must come in close

experienced significant success despite entering the retail market much after stores in Great
Britain, France and the United States. After being established in the 1880 s and 90 s, they
experienced rapid growth and eventually surpassed major international stores such as Macys,
Fields and Wanamaker in sales and store size. This national market domination was far more
prominent than anywhere elsewhere in the world (44). Their quick fortune was driven by the
innovative use of catalogues and the opening of numerous branches during their heyday in the early
1900 s. This put primarily Eaton s, but also Simpson s and HBC, in the spotlight as globally
recognized Canadian department stores. These great retail stores had a momentous effect on the

41. Rumble Fish Analysis
What is young adult literature? Essentially, young adult literature is any type of book that a
teenager or young adult chooses to read. The term adolescence novel is driven by the audience
because publishers are going to produce novels that tend to these needs. This leaves the category
very broad for authors to write. Authors believe that young adult literature tends to have a young
protagonist who deals with problems other young people would have to deal with. S.E. Hinton is a
master of her trade and has wrote many phenomenal novels including, The Outsiders and Rumble
Fish. All of her writingfocuses on young adult literature and teenage angst. Many of you may have

All throughout high school, Hinton read these books with happy ever after endings and non
sense story lines that were not realistic. She wanted to get down to the gritty books and talk
about the real struggles young adults face and what it is really like to been a teen. When The
Outsiders was first published, Hinton was an unknown writer and so was her novel. No one had
ever seen a book written the way it was. Hinton wrote it because she felt that all the books
written for kids her age were not realistic they just didn t ring true. She had moved beyond the
cowboy and horse books in search of god teenage books, and she was very disappointed in what
she found, states Wilson (14). In an interview with seventeen magazine Hinton stated that the
books that were available to her in her school library did not deal with the real lives of teenagers
and she wanted to read novels that showed teenagers outside of the fantasy world because life isn

what dress to wear to prom. When she couldn t find any good young adult literature to read, she

I wouldn t want to meet my soulmate through picture brides because it s unconventional and
insincere. It doesn t take a rocket scientist to see that both parties thought they were benefiting their
own interests going into a picture bride marriage. I admit that there was a lot of deception involved,
however that didn t change the fact that going through with their marriagewas arrange on the
circumstances of their self interests. For the brides, some would be from poor families and needed
money. Obviously what they found in America wasn t what they expected. But they never loved the
American on the other side, but they found the opportunity too hard to pass. They needed to make

It s easy to deceive and talk to someone when not face to face. Instead, they can lie about
everything, and it s be fine because the bride would never know until she got off the boat. Also,
the most of the women had too much honor and pride, so they went with the marriage. Many
felt they would dishonor their family, if they went back to Japan. The main part that doesn t
appeal to me is the whole idea of just sending a bunch of pictures and letters across the pacific
ocean. Unless you meet them in person, for all you know, they could be a serial killer or very
poor. These picture brides were clearly taken advantage of because of their desperation for either
freedom or money. I just bothers me that they didn t know this was going to happen. I know there
were probably a few of honest men that were trying to trick Japanese women into becoming their
wives, but it s just distinguishing that men would go through all that trouble of using younger

Themes of Shakespeare s Measure for Measure Revealed in Angelo s Soliloquies
Angelo s soliloquies (2.2.161 186; 2.4.1 30) express themes of the tragicomic form, grace and
nature, development of self knowledge, justice and mercy, and creation and death as aspects of
Angelo s character.
By the theme of the tragicomic form I mean that which qualified extremes and promoted a balanced
condition of mind [...] It employed a mixed style, mixed action, and mixed characters passing
from side to side, it works amongst contraries, sweetly tempering their composition . (Guarini s
Compendio della Poesia Tragicomica (1601) cited in Lever lxi lxii). I take Measure for Measure s

He says as much in his first soliloquy he rots rather than blooms under virtuous influence (2.2.164
167). The crux of Angelo s soliloquy is Most dangerous / Is that temptation that doth goad us on
/ To sin in loving virtue (2.2.180 182). This equivocation signifies Angelo s transition from
condemning to embracing his love. Unused to thinking of love (of a novice) as anything other than
foul, Angelo acts accordingly. Later he laments forgetting his grace (4.4.31).
There are also shades of the theme of justice and mercy (Lever lxiii) in Angelo s soliloquies. To this
point Angelo has maintained a precisionist, inhuman (merciless) approach to law enforcement. To
this point two characters have asked him to consider that he might behave as Claudio had in similar
circumstances. In lines 2.2.174 176 he at last entertains that argument. Angelo becomes an example
of a legalistic or spiritual concept encountering interference from the realities of human existence
within a character. Lines 2.4.7 9, The state, whereon I studied, [...] also signify movement to a
middle way in his approach to law.
The theme creation and death (Lever lxxxiii) surfaces too. Angelo has condemned a man to die for
a creative act, an act Angelo has interpreted to be destructive. Not only is Angelo feeling the
stirrings that lead to procreation, his language uses the image of pregnancy, [...] the strong and

Future Technological Impacts and Influences on News Reporting and Presentation
Forms of technology have always had a significant influence on the way news is both reported and
presented; there is no reason to suppose this situation will change as new technologies develop and
mature in the future.
Examples from the past are legion, but a couple of particularly striking ones may serve to illustrate
the extreme impact changes in technology have upon what we regard as news .
The development of the printing press (in Europe in the mid Fifteenth Century) allowed for the first

Perhaps the images are a closer reflection of ourselves than are words on a page.
One further example of the past impact of technological change on news reporting and presentation,
likewise, is still very much present (or perhaps, dominant) today: live television broadcast from
the scene of news events. Developed from the 1960 s onwards, due to a number of converging
technologies, for example, smaller cameras, satellite communications, portable power, it is now a
given that any significant news event will have instantaneous live television coverage. Indeed,
entire networks (CNN, Sky News, BBC World) now exist based upon this foundation of live news.
But is this unending live news good news? Former political correspondent of The New York
Times, and editor for New York magazine and Esquire, Richard Reeves, believes ...today s high
tech fusion of cable television, electronic information services and pop culture, has removed the
filtering process of reporting, editing and writing that separates journalism from the raw act of
communication. (as cited in Martin, 1997). And Bob Jobbins, chairman of the UK s Rory Peck

For my independent reading, I chose to read to read The Maze Runner by James Dashner. At first
sight I was attracted to the book simply because of its thrilling cover, which was a picture of the
maze taken from the movie. I chose this book because the blurb was interesting and unique which
automatically gave me the need to keep reading to find out more on what the book was really going
to be about. The title of the story gave away some clues of what the book was initially going to
be about, the name Maze Runner gave me the feeling of an adventure book which would also be
fast paced because the word runner in the title seemed to give away what type of story it would be.

After reading this novel, the author had left me with a good image of what the whole book was
about and what the setting of the story was. The author described the maze as an enormous set

inhabited by people. This gave me the feeling of being trapped inside a room with no escape as
there were monsters which lurked around in the maze at night. Towards the end of the... Show more

these. While I have never experienced seasonal depression, its temporal nature and the treatment of

This effect is quicker than the time it takes for antidepressant drugs to begin working. In a study
involving eleven adult participants between the ages of 26 39 who were diagnosed with
Seasonal Affective Disorder, light therapy produced a reduction of 5 HTT BPND (serotonin
transporter binding) in the anterior cingulate and prefrontal cortices (which play a role in negative
emotions and the recall of positive events, respectively) (Tyrer et al., 2016). More specifically, the
researchers concluded that light therapy produces an effect on the retina and dorsal raphe nucleus,
as well as in connections through the suprachiasmatic nucleus and hypothalamic dorsomedial
nucleus to the median raphe nuclei that potentially decrease 5 HTT levels globally across the
brain. This treatment effect significantly helped with participants SAD symptoms, and it points to
a tangible and clinically effective result in the brain from light therapy treatment. In another study
involving twelve adult participants between the ages of 18 59 who had a diagnosis of Seasonal
Affective Disorder, light therapy was found to help correct the natural melatonin secretion cycle

Against
If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system
if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have
a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or
jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s
personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge
even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for
unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing
response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is
saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered

To this day, golf is one of two sports to be played on the moon along with the Javelin throw.
Apollo 14 member Alan Shepard pulled out a makeshift six iron he smuggled on board and hit
two golf balls on the lunar surface, becoming the first and only person to play golf anywhere
other than Earth. Golf originated in Scotland and has since changed exponentially. Scotlander s
would hit the ball with wooden clubs. Now, golfer s use the most forgiving metal clubs available
and spend as much time at the gym as they do chipping. Today s professionals are gym rats that
continue to thrive for perfect flexibility and muscle mass. The game of golfis no longer a game, it s
