Mobile phone usage trends in 2014 show that text messaging has surpassed phone calls as the primary use of mobile devices. A survey of over 600 smartphone users found that 41% prefer texting over calling. Younger age groups are more likely to text than call, with nearly 60% of 18-29 year olds preferring texting and 44% of 30-44 year olds, compared to older age groups who still favor phone calls slightly over texting. iPhones are the most popular platform for texting across all age groups.
