Face Construct And Criterion-Related Validity Essay
There are differences among face, construct, and criterion related validity. Face validity assesses a task
under evaluation. A group of subjective experts evaluate face validity (Maribo, Pedersen, Jensen,
Nielsen, 2016). Face validity can be utilized to motivate stakeholders within an organization. If
stakeholders are not supportive of the results from face validity they will become disengaged. For
example, when measuring the level of professionalism during the hiring process questions should
relate to different levels of professionalism. If not stakeholders will not be motivated to give their
opinion and the true assessment of the hiring process will not be achieved. Face validity considers the
relevance of a test as it appears to testers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
367, 2012). This particular validity is important when it comes to legal defensibility. Construct
validity explains how what is being studied matches the actual measure. Criterion validity answers the
question of whether a test reflects a certain set of abilities. One way to assess criterion validity is to
compare it to a known standard. A reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related
validity. Criterion related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to
assess student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure student s
ability in this discipline. If the instrument produces the same result as the superior test the instrument
has a high criterion related validity. The higher the results the more faith stakeholders will have in the
assessment tool. A criterion related validity study is conducted by statistically correlating scores with
some measure of job performance (Biddle, p.308, 2010). Criterion related validity is most important
when it comes to predicting performance in a specific job, and predicting future

Pont Saint-Michel By Matisse
The first of the three, and my personal favorite, is Pont Saint Michel by Matisse. This piece is very
simple, yet has a calming and elegant color scheme and medium. This oil on canvas cityscape uses
rough brushstrokes and very few exact lines in order to show an inexact representation of the bridge
and its surrounding buildings. The buildings have very little true form, and seem to blend into one
another. Their colors are mostly primary, with reds, yellows, and blues standing out the most. These
aspects all intertwine in order to show an imperfect representation of a view that Matisse saw nearly
every day out of his window. Since Matisse painted this scene multiple times throughout the years that
he lived in this building, the transformation in his art styles is apparent. Therefore, this painting shows
his transition toward a Fauve composition, since he uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using raw and spontaneous style, de Vlaminck portrays a relaxed and simple man. His use of colors
blends the background to the point where it is indistinguishable, yet outlines features of Bouju s face.
The imprecise yet intentional brushstrokes show the clothing, face, pipe, and smoke only, allowing the
background to be ignored. This work shows the artist s style well, exhibiting the vibrant colors and
distinct brushstrokes of the Fauves. As it was painted in 1900, it shows the clothing style of the period
and the casual acceptance of smoking as a necessity. This piece shows the seemingly calm and
nonchalant nature of the subject, with his street clothes and pipe. I find this work intriguing, as it does
not explicitly show the minute details and features of the man s face, but instead conveys a sense of
tranquility in his demeanor. His stare is not one of judgment or bewilderment, but is instead an

Cuban Revolution Source Analysis
After analysing all of the source s mentioned above, it is evident that all three authors have very
diverse perspectives on the Cuban Revolution. Whilst it may seem to Source A s audience that the
author (Alistair Cooke) is simply trying to inform the American public of Castro s leadership after
examination, it seems as though they are trying to brainwash readers into rebelling against Castro.
Thus, the Source is considered anti Castro. Comparatively, in Source B, Herbert L. Matthews reports
on an exclusive interview with Castro s best lieutenants, Major Che Guevara to present the audience
an anecdote which portrays a strong sense of patriotism, pride and authority which are all factors that
present the audience with Matthews pro Castro perspective. Additionally, Source C s perspective is
also in Castro s favour as the Source is secondary and means that the author could see the context of
the situation without being restricted by any element of bias. Meaning that, he was able to see all the

Cuba, as he does not even have the qualities possessed to lead his troops. This is intentionally used to

Apartheid and Post-Apartheid South Africa
Seventeen years have passed and the Apartheid era has ended, but the legacy it has left behind has
caused South Africa s rehabilitation and self determination to be an obstructed undertaking.
Unaddressed security problems of belligerent crimes and HIV/AIDS are a direct cause of the failure to
manage the aforementioned legacy (Vercillo n.p.). Back in 1947, the growing desegregation which
was caused by the liberation of India and Pakistan, helped spread the evidential racial equality. The
Afrikaaner Nationalists of South Africa, led by Dr. Malan, believed that the whites were a superior
race and that the blacks were a subservient people; a menace in society that the whites must be
protected from. In 1948, when the Nationalists won the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the National party, Nelson Mandela was freed from Robben Island after 27 long years. Also under
F.W. de Klerk s regime was a special vote held wherein 69% of the white population agreed to the
equal distribution of power between the blacks and the whites ( South Africa s Anti Apartheid
Movement 31, 50, 52.). The first democratic elections of 1994 in South Africa and the Mandela
regime then followed suit.
After the seemingly unmanageable and age old problem in South Africa was brought to a peaceful
resolution, the country had then become an exemplar for negotiating conflicts globally. The ANC then
travelled the globe, immersing themselves in the recognition that came with assuming the position of
the aforementioned exemplar which they have become (Johnson, 4). However, as R.W. Johnson
stated, [...] the real miracle lay not in their being willing to enjoy the fruits of victory but in the way
that the National Party leader , F.W. de Klerk, had led the white minority to surrender its power
peacefully. (4)

the implementation of the 100 Days Plan directly after his inauguration. However, due to the lack of

The Influence Of Paul In All Quiet On The Western Front
In the midst of World War One, Paul and his friends join the German Army disillusioned by the glories
it brings with it. However, Paul soon realizes the pains of wars that tear youth and joy from men and
makes a promise: to fight against the meaningless hatred that pits generations of men against each
other, if he can get out alive. Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, follows
Paul as he realizes that war is not all it seems and through a series of events on the frontlines, he
begins to fight against what the war stands for.
For Paul and his fellow comrades to survive the gruesomeness of the front, Paul comments how
[e]very conceivable method of parade ground soldiering is used to become hard, suspicious, pitiless
vicious, tough (26). The gruesome training shows how Paul is changing. His original young and happy
self has ceased to exist as he reflects on the training imposed on him. Later on though, Paul ... Show

saying, Then I know nothing (291). Furthermore, he adds that he no longer possesses a fear towards

Jonas Guran Anel s Upbringing
Jonas Guran Anel s upbringing was rather different than those of many sleepers. Born to a coven of
voodooists in rural Haiti in 1964, Jonas was never truly asleep, more than he was confused. Jonas had
always been a witness to the esoteric rituals of his ancestors carried out by contemporary African
voodooists. He had seen rather gruesome things such as human and animal sacrifices that made
strange impressions on the physical realm, smudging ceremonies that produced amorphous screams,
and so on. He even recanted seeing someone drop like a sack of rocks at the utterance an incantation.
What d he make of all of this? He wasn t sure, and for twenty years of his life, he truly didn t know.
He had always been led to believe by his coven elders that it was the work of the Ldo, (which are the
ancestral spirits that are worshipped in Haitian voodoo) everything else was reserved to the highest
level of of the tribe before one could hear of it. Should one hear of this sacrosanct information
prematurely, their earlobes would be decapitated and sacrificed to Ldo to prevent any retribution from
making it s way upon the tribe. The tribes believed that such information was granted directly by the
spirits, and if misused or exposed at an inappropriate time, would invoke their wrath upon everyone.
All of this and more is fascinating, but the question is, who is Jonas Anel? How did all of this effect
him and how does it continue to affect him? Drums beatin , thick black smoke permeating

Summary Of Too Many People Are Going To College
The standard way of thinking about college has often given the impression that education will open
doors. College is foretold to be the wisest choice a student can make to better their future with a
successful, high paying job. Yet Charles Murray, author of the article Too Many People Are Going To
College, introduces a controversial side to the argument, believing that the decision for students to
attend college is one of great importance, but the choice may be made too soon. Murray emphasizes
the reasons why this situation exists and continues to be proven true in today s society with factors
such as the misleading statements to students about college and the high academic standards students
must conform to. In discussions of Charles Murray, he expresses his opinion on the thoughts and
feelings that are being transferred to students before college, claiming them to be misleading. Murray
brings to light the problem that exists in the constant pushing of guidance counselors, teachers, and
even politicians to aspire for a college degree no matter what, treating every failure to go to college as
an injustice (Murray 48). Yet, by doing so, parents and students are often blindsided by the
overwhelming cost of college that many cannot afford, or the sheer amount of education students
would put themselves through for no reason at all. Murray observes that one aspect of this
phenomenon has been labeled misaligned ambitions, meaning that adolescents have career ambitions
that are inconsistent with their educational plans (Murray 48). Convincing students that college is the
only guiding light to a better life forces students to see college as such, an intellectual heaven where
they can become anything, such as a doctor or an attorney without understanding the educational
hurdles they must surmount to achieve their goal (Murray 48 49). They then attend a four year
university with the depiction of college as a place where B.A.s are handed out fresh in their minds,
thoughtless as to if that particular college they are attending even has the educational requirements
needed to complete their career goals (Murray 49). Unfortunately, as Murray reminds us, this is the
system that is in place. For a brutal fact

Coney Island Middle Class
Coney Island was a herald of change from the very beginning. The rise of powerful forces
demonstrate the influence of mass consumerism and enterprises over the progressive voice occurred
between 1880 and 1911. A series of ingeniously designed amusement parks emerged as the products
of various showmen. These people intentionally targeted the middle class by appealing to their values
of refinement. While reformers stood by the failures of society, these parks offered a positive approach
to life. The height of visual spectacle and novelty was the Luna Park, which shunned traditional
Victorian norms of civility and refinement and turned towards lavish attractions. Middle class ideas of
leisure changed along with their own patterns and behaviors as a result. Novelty was the crucial
element of the cultural changes that emerged in those years. Many examples are evidence of the
changing middle class tastes and values. Novelty, commercialization and consumerism helped
insinuate the middle class way of life at Coney Island. Despite their apparently opposing roles as
consumers and reformers, they marked the era of movement towards transformation.

commercial enterprise, through the amusement parks, evolved middle class values, outdid the
influence of reformers, and basically had set the source for the progress of the twentieth century s

For one to understand Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) it is important to examine the criterion
that place this disorder within the realm of Disruptive, Impulse Control, and Conduct Disorders. The
American Psychiatric Association note in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders

Vindictiveness: Has been spiteful or vindictive at least twice within the past 6 months. Criterion B:
The disturbance in behavior as associated with distress in the individual or others in his immediate

functioning. Criterion C: The behaviors do not occur exclusively during the course of psychotic,
substance use, depressive, or bipolar disorder. Also, the criteria are not met for disruptive mood
dysregulation disorder (APA, 2013). Etiology and Course It is sometimes difficult to determine
whether a child truly meets the criteria for having an ODD diagnosis because many of the behavioral
qualifications are commonly seen among youth in early childhood and adolescence. If a child s
behaviors consistently cause distress to the family system and have an effect on his or her social and
educational functioning, further evaluation is appropriate. ODD has been linked to many other
comorbid disorders, such as anxiety; depression; and, most commonly, attention deficit/ hyperactivity
disorder (Erford, Paul, Oncken Kress, 2014). Disruptive behavior is the most common mental health
problem seen by pediatricians. Although attention deficit/

Persuasive Essay On Obamacare
Obamacare is one of the most talked about and debated issues of the century. Republicans want it
repealed. Democrats want it to thrive. It s effectiveness is not determined by politics, but by positive
results. The vision of Obamacare is to provide healthcare for all Americans. The legislation provides
the tools and framework to allow this ambitious goal of Obamacare to be met. Now, three years after
its start date, it s clear these goals are well on the way to being achieved. Obviously, in a free society,
there will be those who disagree and will not sign up for healthcare for various reasons. Despite these
people who disagree, the vast majority of Americans are now insured. Obamacare is effective because
it expands overall health benefits, provides coverage for millions, and helps the economy, allowing
Americans to be healthier, live longer, and out of medical debt. The primary purpose of Obamacare is
to provide access to healthcare to all Americans. Since it was implemented three years ago, it has
succeeded in adding many Americans to the roles of the insured. In addition, the insurance provided is
not a watered down version of health care. Each person insured is guaranteed a minimum of 10
essential health benefits.
The 10 essential health benefits were carefully crafted to insure that Americans receive quality health
care. The 10 essential benefits are ambulatory patient services (outpatient services), emergency

Mary Did You Know A Christmas Carol Lyrics Analysis
We all love Christmas. There is so many good parts to it: the decorations and colors, the delicious
food, and being with our loving, caring families. However, the very best part is that we get to celebrate
Christ s birth and listen or sing carols that reflect Him. Mary Did You Know, a christmas carol, shows
what Jesus did during His life.
This song has background, scripture, and definitions some may not understand. Buddy Greene and
Mark Lowry came together to write this carol. Mark Lowry is a Christian songwriter, comedian, and
singer. Buddy Greene is also a songwriter and singer. They included scripture in this song, but instead
of verses, they used only words. For example, the words in the third verse, Lord of all Creation and
the Great I Am are mentioned in the bible. One thing confusing in this song is when it uses the word
delivered as a homonym. This word means to give birth or to rescue, which both definitions are used
in the same verse; This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you... This meaningful Christmas

I believe that there are several weaknesses that could be addressed. As it is now, the policy is that, in
order to become a member, the applicant must have a permanent residency within the County of
Waukesha. He or she must be at least be 18 of age and a diagnosed mental illness, only. Unfortunately
this policy also dictates that there are limitations for potential applicants. Waukesha residency does not
include staying in a local shelter, which is under the current statutes not considered as a permanent
living arrangement. One of the main reason is that by accepting applicants from a shelter would
change the dynamics in such matter that the focus of the program would change and possible endanger
the wellbeing and safety of the current members. Another weak point are secondary disabilities, both
physical and developmentally. Again reason is that the focus of the program would change and
secondly, staff is not trained properly to service members with a developmental disability. Although I
have argued for altering the current policies, management stays strong in their convictions that any
change would harm the program. It would also mean that they have to hire more and qualified staff.
As funds are coming from Transitional Employment (TE SIDES) and payed through vendors like

Spina Bifida is a neural tube defect that is present at birth. It is thought to be caused by a folic acid
deficiency in the first month of pregnancy. This disease can be either symptomatic or asymptomatic.
There are three types of Spina Bifida including: Spina Bifida Occulta, Spina Bifida Meningocele, and
Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele. The main treatment for Spina Bifida is surgery that occurs right after

Amelia Earhart
Does anyone actually know what happened to Amelia Earhart? Growing up, Amelia Earhart was
always very outgoing and brave and liked the outdoors. She took an interest in flying at a young age,
but no one knew she would be the first women to fly an airplane. The record setting Amelia Earhart
and her hard life s work ended when she took her last attempted flight around the world.
Amelia Earhart s childhood was full of adventure. She was born on July 24th (Earhart, Amelia) in
Atchison, Kansas. As a child, Amelia was very adventurous and spent her time riding horses and
exploring the outdoors (Stevenson 1). People back then didn t think that girls should do things that
boys were supposed to do and the other way around too. Yet she did many things ... Show more

She set off into the skies with Fred Noonan, an experienced navigator (Buchanan 10), in June 1937 for
her flight around the world (Amelia Earhart). If she made it all the way around the world and back on
this trip, she would be the first women ever to do so, but this was a very tough task that takes a lot of
bravery. For nearly a month, Earhart and Noonan flew from country to country, lofting over oceans,
mountain ranges, deserts, towns, and cities. At every stop, tremendous crowds welcomed them.
(Buchanan 10) This was one of the most exciting things in that time period because nothing like this
had been done before. But it didn t go that smoothly for long. When flying over the Pacific Ocean,
Earhart and Noonan were searching for their next fuel stop. Flying through the rain clouds, Earhart
and Noonan could not find Howland (Buchanan 10) They had to stop soon for fuel or risk going down
into the ocean. She and her plane disappeared somewhere near Howland Island in the Central Pacific
Ocean on July 2nd, 1937 (Earhart, Amelia), in which they got they got the last radio signal from
Earhart and her plane. The world waited with fascination as search teams from the United States Army

Sexual Harassment And The Workplace
Case 6 1 Not only is sexual harassment one of the worst possible things that can happen to an
individual on the job, but also to have a supervisor or manager to not stand up for you and help you is
just as terrible. Some employee s can become worried about mentioning to their supervisors about
possible sexual harassments for reasons such as, worrying about what other people will think, not
trusting their supervisor, worry about losing their job. When you are a victim of sexual harassment
there is always a chance it may happen again and by the same person. If you do not tell someone you

When you put business before your employees, you can create problems that you may not even think
about. Wallner is probably one of the most unethical people I have heard of. If you were to pay off an
individual in certain workplaces at certain companies right now, there would be so many lawsuits that
we wouldn t be able to keep up. Even to mention to an employee that you would pay them off can
cause a lawsuit. If anyone were to ask me that question I would leave the company because that sexual
harassment will probably happen to me again, let alone my supervisor clearly doesn t care about my
safety. You can t buy off employee silence; it is unethical and simply wrong. Not only is this company
making a terrible name for itself, but also it is giving their employee s a dangerous and careless work
environment. The employer is liable if it knew or should have known about the harassment, unless it
took immediate and appropriate corrective action (Workplace Fairness). Not only is Wallner putting
his employee s at risk, but himself as well. It doesn t matter if you have a top rock star , it matters if
you have an employee how knows how to respect their job and their co workers. Such situations
should not be tolerated by anyone and the supervisor should be held accountable to protect their
employees.

The Negative Use Of Steroids In Sports
Steroids has been one of the most controversial substances when it comes to usage. In basic chemistry,
steroids are made up of several compounds that are vital for the human body; such as cholesterol and
hormones. The negative effects of steroids include heart risk such as heart attacks or strokes. Steroids
has been commonly used in bodybuilding to give competitors the necessary energy to perform and
look better. However, bodybuilders would eventually suffer the aftermath of the use of steroids. In the
peak of the steroid era in baseball, there was a plethora of athletes who used steroids such as
performance enhancing drugs and human growth hormones as ways to accelerate their recovery and
maximize their performances. Along with the negative effects of steroids, there are also many positive
effects when it comes to steroid use. Steroids could be used to treat inflammation and speed up
recovery. Most doctors believe that the use of steroids in a hospital would be vital in the survival of
patients. Overall, the usage of steroids is a double edged sword that should require attention and due
diligence.

Trial By Media And The Denial Of A Fair Trial
Introduction
Trial by media is a phrase popular in the late 20th century and early 21st century to describe the
impact of television and newspaper coverage on a person s reputation by creating a widespread
perception of guilt or innocence before, or after, a verdict in a court of law. Its first inception was the
phrase Trial by Television which found light in the response to the 3 February, 1967 television
broadcast of The Frost Programme, host David Frost. The confrontation and Frost s personal
adversarial line of questioning of insurance fraudster Emil Savundra led to concern from ITV
executives that it might affect Savundra s right to a fair trial.
During high publicity court cases, the media are often accused of provoking an atmosphere ... Show

Laudable as it may be, this media activism is also disquieting, and not just because it might partially
be fuelled by a competitive rush to attract larger audiences. Even when well intentioned, recent
coverage of sexual violence has tended to degenerate rapidly into a series of trials by media, with the
media arrogating to itself and the public the powers of both judge and jury. As a consequence, the

Disadvantages Of Travel And Tourism
The Travel and Tourism economy is one of the fastest growing activities in most countries around the
world [1]. For many developing countries it is one of the main sources of foreign exchange income
and the number one export category, creating such needed employment and opportunities for
development [2]. According to World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTO), the Travel and Tourism
industry have generated US$7.6 trillion (10% of global GDP (Gross Domestic Product)) and 277
million jobs (1 in 11 jobs) for the global economy in 2014. In Malaysia, for 2014 alone, a total of
RM72.0 billion receipts and 27.22 million arrivals were registered [3].
However, the Travel and Tourism industry has not only some benefits and also drawbacks. Tourism
can cause its share of problems such as social dislocation, loss of cultural heritage, ecological
degradation, pollution and noise. For instance, much of the corals on Pulau Payar Marine Park,
Langkawi, Malaysia were damaged due to mass arrival of tourists as the travel operators has allowed
600 to 700 tourists on the island at a time [4]. One hand, there is a push to bring in tourists dollars but

Nazi Nationalism In Adolf Hitler And The Nazi Foreign Policy
Nazism was an ideology that became Germany s nationalism. This ideology and nationalism was
focused on making Germany a great nation once again. The main focus of this ideology was based in
the cleansing of the Aryan race. When Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933 laws were
put into place that set up the process of eliminating those who did not belong. This was known as the
Nazi Foreign Policy. That same year Hitler took Germany out of the Treaty of Versailles. The main
people group targeted because of the Nazi Foreign Policy was Jews along with anyone who disagreed
with the Nazi way. Despite these laws not being put into place until the mid 1930s Jews were still
harassed in the 1920s but now the mistreatment was legal. It was not just legal but in fact encourage to
report a suspect Jew or rebel to the SS. The Nazi Foreign Policy became more about race then the
rebuilding of Germany because it was thought that Germany could only thrive with pure Aryan
inhabitants. No one questioned the outlandish plans and laws that came from Hitler s rule. He had
done nothing but good things for Germany and was a skilled spokesperson. Hitler became a dictator
because a democracy was considered weak and the things that happened would not have been able to
take place within a government system of that nature. German people were convinced that following
these laws and adopting Nazism was about accepting and expressing their nationalism. They held

How Judaism and Christianity Diverged
The origins of Christianity can be originated in Judaism and for that reason it is no surprise that both
religions have many beliefs in common. During the earliest beginnings, Christianity was a part of
Judaism, but currently they are two distinct communities. However, they are bound together by their
belief in one God and to worship any other is to deny Him. The separation between both religions did
not happen fast or easy. The entire division took some hundred years and the very complex separation
didn t happen all at once. Christianity began with Jesus Christ and his disciples about 2000 years ago
in Judea. Throughout that duration of time, Judea was ruled over the emperor of Rome, Constantine.

The Effects Of Radiation On Public Health
The Effects of Radiation in the Environment on Public Health
Introduction
Radiation in the environment is widespread and a necessary process for the existence of life. We
encounter it from natural sources like the sun or from modern technology such as computed
tomography better known as CT scan, and nuclear power plants. Radiation from sunlight is essential
but too much of it can be harmful, just as the use of radiation in CT scans. Computed tomography can
provide lifesaving information about disease but can also cause disease.
One of the topics that every so often pops up in the news is radioactive waste management and
protecting the public against the hazards of radioactive waste from power plants and other facilities
that produce radioactive waste. People want to know where is this waste disposed and/or stored and
who has access this material. Many of the concerns center around the dangers of radioactive leaks and
exposure; consequently, most people do not want this material in their neighborhood. Another concern
is the use of waste material as nuclear weapons by terrorists.
The disposal and managing of radioactive waste is extremely complicated, not only because of the
dangers hazardous waste poses, but also because of the strict compliance the management of this
waste must undergo. If radioactive hazardous waste is compliant with the regulations of all the
governing federal agencies, it does not pose an environmental public health risk.

Off the Edge, broadcasted on the 28th of February on 60 Minutes is a documentary about real life
superman JT Holmes and his career in extreme sports. This documentary s intention is to legitimize
the name of extreme sports and inspire others to try it. This is achieved through a range of positioning
techniques. Strategic inclusion and exclusions can ensure the audience perceives Holmes as a
professional athlete thereby adopting the viewpoint the director is promoting. An inclusion near the
beginning was the near death experience of Holmes when he was buried alive in an avalanche just one

As it is about extreme sports it needs to capture the beauty and danger. It incorporates many high
angled very wide shots to put emphasis on placing him in his environment and showing just how small
and insignificant he is in the vast white expanse that is the face of nature. This allows the audience to
track his progress skiing down the mountain while providing a sense of perspective. The follow shots
used are very effective as it feels as though we are looking through the eyes of the skiers as they hurtle
down mountains. This effect is magnified when it shows them going off the edge and their skis and a
portion of their legs are visible. The music creates the atmosphere and mood. It is light, cheerful and
upbeat when he is doing leisure skiing and in the file footage of his previous stunts. The music adopts
a more sombre tone when discussing the death of his friend and is dramatic when he was caught in the
avalanche as well as performing his Mt Eiger stunt to add suspense. On Mt Eiger there is a high pitch
sound that gets louder the closer he gets to the edge, then ceases when he jumps. As he falls there is a

Effects Of Ocean Acidification On Shellfish
Introduction The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the effects of ocean acidification and
temperature increase on shellfish. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began, carbon dioxide emission
in the air has greatly increased, and around the same time, the temperature of the ocean, along with the
atmosphere, showed a similar trend. Scientists claimd that ocean acidification and temperature
increase is deadly to marine life, including shellfish. It was hypothesized that the mass of the shells of
shellfish will decrease due to acidification and temperature increase because acid is known to break
down bones and because high temperature can damage skin cells.
Ocean acidification is happening throughout the oceans at this very moment. Ever since the start of the
Industrial Revolution, excess amounts of carbon dioxide have been released to the atmosphere. The
ocean absorbs around a quarter of the carbon dioxide released every year, so as the amount of CO2
increases in the air, so does the amount of CO2 in the ocean. Scientists, at first thought this was
beneficial to the environment as the ocean was removing greenhouse gas from the atmosphere;
however, it slowly changed the chemistry of the oceans. The increase of carbon dioxide in the oceans
led them to become more acidic, which affected the marine ecosystems. The PMEL Carbon Program
monitored the oceans for three decades and they recently revealed how carbon dioxide affected the
coral reef systems in the North Pacific

Volunteering at the Great Plains animal shelter has been a great experience. Before we were able to get

have had animals my whole life and have had a lot of experience with animals I felt very comfortable
with handling all of the animals. Even though I have had a lot of experience I still know animals can

If one thing doesn t get done right it can lead to complications or can even affect the health of the
animals. For example, proper sterilizing and disinfecting of equipment and objects is critical in an
animal shelter. Every morning every cat cage and dog kennel gets thoroughly cleaned. This means
removing any soiled bedding and whipping all the surfaces with disinfectant spray. If an animal has
been adopted and a new animal is going in their previous cage, it must be completely sterile for the
new animal. This is so important because it helps prevent cross contamination therefore prevents the
spread of fleas, bodily fluids, and germs which will then help prevent illnesses. With that being said
we have also learned the importance of washing and sanitizing our hand before and in between
handling each animal. This especially is critical when handling the cats, for some of the cats in the
shelter may be ill and you do not want to spread those germs from one cat to

Climate Change On The Boreal Forests In Canada

According to a report by BirdLife Internationa, about 11% of the bird species in the world are at risk
of global warming, and it is predicted that about 6% of the bird species may disappear in the nest 20 or
so years. If the planet continues to heat up, the optimal habitats for birds species may not exist
anymore. This is because most birds species depend on the boreal forest as their habitat, breeding
ground and source of food, and if the climate of the boreal forest keeps changing, it can have adverse
effect on the birds and other living organisms that depend on it as a habitat (Randerson, 1132)
Global warming due to depletion and climate changes in the boreal forest can also affect the birds that
migrate over long distance. This is because the birds may not find food by arriving late during
migration. Birds that migrate over short distance arrive about 2 weeks earlier today that how they
arrived 50 100 years ago, and the long distance birds arrive early by 3 4 days for the spring (Tarnocai,
229). The insects breeding in the northern areas are also hatching earlier than expected during the
spring. Birds always lay eggs sooner if the insects emerge sooner in order to feed their young ones
when there is an abundance of insects and caterpillars.
Climate change in the boreal region in Canada also affects the birds that migrate to the tropics during
winter and boreal during summer since they rely on seasonal

The National Women s Party
The National Women s Party also known as N.W.P was an American Women s organization formed in
1916 as an outgrowth of the congressional union which in turn was formed in 1913 by Alice Paul and
Lucy Burns to fight women s suffrage ignoring all other issues. These two women strongly felt that
women all over the world need rights in general and that women did not get the same rights as men
did. This was at a time when all the women could not vote but men could. At this time women cooked,
cleaned and took care of the kids. That was what the men expected the women to do. These two
women wanted these rights so they could feel that they could change something. They did change
some things. Even though they eventually got their right to vote it did not mean these women voted. It
was not the fact that they wanted to vote it that meant so much to them as the fact that they wanted
and had the same rights as the men. The women s voting rights were gained in Finland, Iceland,
Sweden and some Australian colonies and western U.S. states in the late 19 century. National and
International organizations formed to coordinate efforts to gain voting rights, especially the
international women suffrage alliance founded in 1904, Berlin Germany also worked for equal civil
rights for women. These women just wanted to do the same things that the men could do. They had a

The Weighted Average Cost Of Capital
Introduction
AGL Energy is an Australian company providing energy products and services. It is involved in the
generation and retailing of electricity and is the largest ASX listed owner, operator and developer of
renewable energy generation in the country (AGL Energy Ltd., 2016).
This assignment will calculate the Weighted Average Cost of Capital of AGL Energy Ltd and gearing,
as well as analysing the capital structure of the company. Through this, recommendations can be given
to the firm to increase and better manage capital and how it is used. The Weighted Average Cost of
Capital (WACC) is a calculation of a firm s cost of capital. It is the average costs of debt and equity

Therefore, the result of the WACC can be increased or decreased by altering these results.
Weighted Average Cost of Capital Result
The Weighted Average Cost of Capital is for AGL is in the 2015 financial year is approximately
6.28%. While 6.28% WACC is slightly high, the overall average for the utilities companies have high
WACC, AGL is in the average. A high weighted average cost of capital is indicative of higher risk
associated with the company. As seen in IPART s (2016) Review of the Weighted Average Cost of
Capital is is shown for five of the utilities industries in Australia.
As can be seen from the figures below as AGL is both an electricity retailer and generator and
therefore fits into both categories. While electricity retailing is slight higher at 6.8% WACC,
electricity generation is not much smaller at 6.0% (IPART, 2016). Therefore, these two can be
averaged to give approximately 6.4%. This means that AGLs Weighted Average Cost of Capital result
of 6.28% is on par with the industry averages. This result shows that AGL has an adequate capital
structure which gives a good Weighted Average Cost of Capital. Investors may often use WACC as an
indicator of whether or not an investment is worth pursuing. This result shows indicates the company
is financially stable and is not considered not risky to potential investors.
There are many factors that can affect the result of the Weighted Average Cost of Capital. This can

To whom it may concern, Since the 1960s, polyethylene bags has been a catalyst for the American

detrimental effects it has on the environment. With such risks, critics claim that it is crucial to control
this activity through a bag tax. In this letter I will inform you about the damage this law presents and a

Along with the economic complications, a bag tax will make conditions for the working much more
difficult. The reason I say that is because a family who cannot afford groceries will have to pay more,
thus making their living conditions worse. The United States Department of Agriculture reported that
there are 17.5 million families in the United States that are food insecure. This means that they have
difficulties finding a direct source of food. So with the implementation of a bag tax these families will
have to compete with increasing food prices and a tax that will make their next meal unaffordable. In
conclusion, the integration of a bag tax will make the accessibility to food difficult for working class
Americans. The last and final reason as to why application of a bag tax is unnecessary is because it
aims to combat pollution, but it fails to do so. The Environment Protection Agency reported that
plastic bags account for only 0.03% of the United States total waste. This means that the law will not
decrease littering. This is prevalent in areas such as Washington D.C. where the recent bag tax did not

Objectification Of Women Essay
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . However there is a well known, well discussed, universal
definition of perfection for all women. One that is consistent throughout different areas of the world
and different allotments of the human culture. This standard of the ideal woman is based off of not
only physical but intellectual standards predominantly in advertising. According to Margaret Atwood
in The Female Body, a woman s body is used in today s culture to sell and advertise products . These
products vary from door knockers, bottle openers, clocks with ticking bellies, lampshades, and
nutcrackers . By having stores sell these items they are completely promoting the objectification of
women to help sell their goods and services which is down right direful. How are women expected to
ever be treated equal if business continue to sell discriminatory product, lessening the view of the
female anatomy. Materialistic items are not the only way a female s body is exploited in today s
culture. Aside from bottle openers and clocks, women are universally seen as a renewable sex symbol

1016) even from a young age little girls are expected to act motherly or at least become familiar with
the kind, modest, motherly attitude. A prime example of this is children s toys particularly baby dolls.
Baby dolls teach young girls the stereotypical motherly role. Girls are taught how to take care of and
care for something like a mother does with her child. For example, baby dolls nowadays are made to
urinate so the child can actually change their diaper. Young girls can talk to the baby, bathe them, all
things a mother is expected to do in today s stereotypical, ideal, gender role, influenced

The Reading Of Beyond Heroes And Holidays Essay
Through the reading of Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K 12 Anti Racist,
Multicultural Education and Staff Development and A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota I
have not only learned about the experiences of others, but have also gained a deeper understanding of
my own racial and cultural identity and how that relates to other identities around me. In learning this
information, I feel that I will not only be able to understand and relate better to my future students, but
also understand their backgrounds and how they are affecting them presently. Therefore, I will be able
to teach to individuals in the way they need me to, but also create a more welcoming and inclusive
environment (racially, culturally, and otherwise) in my future classroom. The information I have read
has helped me to understand my own racial and cultural identity, how it relates to the identities of my
future students, and what I can do to make educational institutions more racially and culturally
inclusive. Recently I have been evaluating what I think to be my own racial and cultural identity. As a
Caucasian of mostly German decent who grew up in the upper Midwest, I blended in with the
majority of people around me. Due to this fact, I did not often think about race, and when I did it was
thinking about how others were different than me and the rest of us . I was a product of my culture and
the society surrounding me; I regret this thinking now, and do deeply apologize.

Modern English Language
There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million
people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of the
World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the evolution of
the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and varieties that have
risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the English language. In
the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States of America (History: Late
Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro Hungarians, Russians, Germans,
Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants would form their own communities in
which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ... accent and an idiosyncratic syntax
(History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this time, the British Empire spanned nearly
twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, and several other
countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the English language and contributed some of their
own words as well (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). Through the colonization
process, several varieties of the English language were produced. Examples of the New Englishes
were Australian English, South African English, Caribbean English, and South Asian (History: Late

Death By Neil Degrasse Tyson Analysis
By reading the book Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, one can deduce that the
author, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is man of intelligence with a love for the ways of the universe. He
clearly has a passion for what he does, as he immerses himself in his personal interests by giving
public lectures about the cosmos (346). He values his personal interest so much that he has solved
how long it would take to cook a 16 inch pepperoni pizza on Venus; the answer is seven seconds (80).
Tyson obviously has a strong enthusiasm for what he does as an astrophysicist and has spent many
years in this field. Throughout the book, he explains concepts in ways that the reader is able to
understand and relate to. He uses simple topics to help explain our complex universe. For example, he
introduces the idea of a constant and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader learns more about Tyson through the chapter Holy Wars, in which he explains his beliefs
on God and religion. While the author does not indicate that he is an atheist, the reader is drawn to the
conclusion that he does not believe in God. He states that if the Bible had ever been shown to be a rich
source of scientific answers and understanding, [scientists] would be mining it daily for cosmic
discovery (352). This statement evidently states that the Bible holds no valuable information with
regards to the universal laws and ideas. On the last page of the book, Tyson further emphasizes that
one cannot put complete faith in a higher being by stating that [God] does not want students who
could make the next major breakthrough in renewable energy sources or space travel to have been
taught that anything they do not understand, and that nobody yet understands, is divinely constructed
and therefore beyond intellectual capability

Getting a job done Essay
Getting a Job From I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings My room had all the cheeriness of a dungeon
and the appeal of a tomb. It was going to be impossible to stay there, but leaving held no attraction for
me, either.... The answer came to me with the suddenness of a collision. I would go to work. Mother
wouldn t be difficult to convince; after all, in school I was a year ahead of my grade and mother was a
firm believer in self sufficiency. In fact, she d be pleased to think that I had that much gumption, that
much of her in my character. (she liked to speak of herself as the original do it yourself girl. ) Once I
had settled on getting a job, all that remained was to decide which kind of job I was most fitted for.

I ve told you many times, can t do is like Don t Care. Neither of them have a home. Translated, that
meant there was nothing a person can t do, and there should be nothing a human being didn t care
about. It was the most positive encouragement I could have hope for. In the offices of the Market
Street Railway Company, the receptionist seemed as surprised to see me there as I was surprised to
find the interior dingy and the décor drab. Somehow I had expected waxed surfaces and carpeted
floors. If I had met no resistance, I might have decided against working for such a poor mouth looking
concern. As it was, I was explained that I had come to see about a job. She asked, was I sent by an
agency, and when I replied that I was not, she told me they were only accepting applicants from
agencies. The classified pages of the morning papers had listed advertisements for motorettes and
conductorettes and I reminded her of that. She gave me a face full of astonishment that my suspicious
nature would not accept. I am applying for the job listed in this morning s chronicle and I d like to be
presented to your personnel manager. While I spoke in supercilious accents, and looked at the room as
if I had an oil well in my backyard, my armpits were being pricked my millions of hot pointed
needles. She saw her escape and dived into it. He s out. He s out for the day. You might call tomorrow
and if he s in, I m sure you can see him. Then she swiveled her chair around on its rusty

Companies Should Research Health Care Products For Use in Developing Nations
The industry of medical research and product development is an expensive and risky business in
which the rate of failure far outweighs the likelihood of success (Glaxo). Only the largest companies
can afford to invest large amounts of time and capital in projects that seem to have little chance of
striking research gold a drug that is effective, safe, and marketable for a profit. This creates an obvious
problem: what incentives exist that would encourage companies to make a commitment to the
development and distribution of products that are not likely to produce great returns, namely
medicines that would be used mainly in third world countries? Are these ... Show more content on

Of all the diseases mentioned above, malaria presents a threat to the greatest number of people. It is a
health problem today in more that 90 countries, with total populations of more than 2,400 million
people about 40% of the world s population. It is estimated that there are up to 500 million cases a
year worldwide (Glaxo). A British pharmaceutical company called Glaxo Wellcome recently
developed the first new industrially researched malaria remedy since World War II. It is a combination
drug containing 2 substances, atovaquone and proguanil, given the commercial name Malarone. While
this product has proven to be extremely effective in cases involving drug resistant strains of malaria,
the atovaquone component is very expensive to produce, and each recipient requires a full round of
therapy lest a Malarone resistant strain of malaria develop (Glaxo). Most of the people who need
Malarone have no access to consistent health care, and cannot afford to pay for the medicine. With this
in mind, Glaxo Wellcome founded a donation program to make up to one million courses of Malarone
per year available under carefully controlled conditions to the countries that need it most. Pilot areas
selected by the World Health Organization include Kenya and Southeast Asia (Glaxo).

Since 1977, the anti bribery provisions of the FCPA have applied to all U.S. persons and certain
foreign issuers of securities. With the enactment of certain amendments in 1998, the anti bribery
provisions of the FCPA now also apply to foreign firms and persons who cause, directly or through
agents, an act in furtherance of such a corrupt payment to take place within the territory of the United
States. The FCPA also requires companies whose securities are listed in the United States to meet its
accounting provisions. See 15 U.S.C. § 78m. These accounting provisions, which were designed to
operate in tandem with the anti bribery provisions of the FCPA, require corporations covered by the
provisions to (a) make and keep books and records that accurately and fairly reflect the transactions of
the corporation and (b) devise and maintain an adequate system of internal accounting

  • 2. Face Construct And Criterion-Related Validity Essay There are differences among face, construct, and criterion related validity. Face validity assesses a task under evaluation. A group of subjective experts evaluate face validity (Maribo, Pedersen, Jensen, Nielsen, 2016). Face validity can be utilized to motivate stakeholders within an organization. If stakeholders are not supportive of the results from face validity they will become disengaged. For example, when measuring the level of professionalism during the hiring process questions should relate to different levels of professionalism. If not stakeholders will not be motivated to give their opinion and the true assessment of the hiring process will not be achieved. Face validity considers the relevance of a test as it appears to testers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 367, 2012). This particular validity is important when it comes to legal defensibility. Construct validity explains how what is being studied matches the actual measure. Criterion validity answers the question of whether a test reflects a certain set of abilities. One way to assess criterion validity is to compare it to a known standard. A reference is needed to determine an instrument s criterion related validity. Criterion related validity predicts the future. If a nursing program designed a measure to assess student learning throughout the program, a test such as the NCLEX would measure student s ability in this discipline. If the instrument produces the same result as the superior test the instrument has a high criterion related validity. The higher the results the more faith stakeholders will have in the assessment tool. A criterion related validity study is conducted by statistically correlating scores with some measure of job performance (Biddle, p.308, 2010). Criterion related validity is most important when it comes to predicting performance in a specific job, and predicting future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pont Saint-Michel By Matisse The first of the three, and my personal favorite, is Pont Saint Michel by Matisse. This piece is very simple, yet has a calming and elegant color scheme and medium. This oil on canvas cityscape uses rough brushstrokes and very few exact lines in order to show an inexact representation of the bridge and its surrounding buildings. The buildings have very little true form, and seem to blend into one another. Their colors are mostly primary, with reds, yellows, and blues standing out the most. These aspects all intertwine in order to show an imperfect representation of a view that Matisse saw nearly every day out of his window. Since Matisse painted this scene multiple times throughout the years that he lived in this building, the transformation in his art styles is apparent. Therefore, this painting shows his transition toward a Fauve composition, since he uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using raw and spontaneous style, de Vlaminck portrays a relaxed and simple man. His use of colors blends the background to the point where it is indistinguishable, yet outlines features of Bouju s face. The imprecise yet intentional brushstrokes show the clothing, face, pipe, and smoke only, allowing the background to be ignored. This work shows the artist s style well, exhibiting the vibrant colors and distinct brushstrokes of the Fauves. As it was painted in 1900, it shows the clothing style of the period and the casual acceptance of smoking as a necessity. This piece shows the seemingly calm and nonchalant nature of the subject, with his street clothes and pipe. I find this work intriguing, as it does not explicitly show the minute details and features of the man s face, but instead conveys a sense of tranquility in his demeanor. His stare is not one of judgment or bewilderment, but is instead an indifferent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whilst it may seem to Source A s audience that the author (Alistair Cooke) is simply trying to inform the American public of Castro s leadership after examination, it seems as though they are trying to brainwash readers into rebelling against Castro. Thus, the Source is considered anti Castro. Comparatively, in Source B, Herbert L. Apartheid and Post-Apartheid South Africa Seventeen years have passed and the Apartheid era has ended, but the legacy it has left behind has caused South Africa s rehabilitation and self determination to be an obstructed undertaking. Unaddressed security problems of belligerent crimes and HIV/AIDS are a direct cause of the failure to manage the aforementioned legacy (Vercillo n.p.). Back in 1947, the growing desegregation which was caused by the liberation of India and Pakistan, helped spread the evidential racial equality. The Afrikaaner Nationalists of South Africa, led by Dr. Malan, believed that the whites were a superior race and that the blacks were a subservient people; a menace in society that the whites must be protected from. However, Paul soon realizes the pains of wars that tear youth and joy from men and makes a promise: to fight against the meaningless hatred that pits generations of men against each other, if he can get out alive. Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, follows Paul as he realizes that war is not all it seems and through a series of events on the frontlines, he begins to fight against what the war stands for. • 8. Jonas Guran Anel s Upbringing Jonas Guran Anel s upbringing was rather different than those of many sleepers. Born to a coven of voodooists in rural Haiti in 1964, Jonas was never truly asleep, more than he was confused. Jonas had always been a witness to the esoteric rituals of his ancestors carried out by contemporary African voodooists. He had seen rather gruesome things such as human and animal sacrifices that made strange impressions on the physical realm, smudging ceremonies that produced amorphous screams, and so on. He even recanted seeing someone drop like a sack of rocks at the utterance an incantation. What d he make of all of this? He wasn t sure, and for twenty years of his life, he truly didn t know. He had always been led to believe by his coven elders that it was the work of the Ldo, (which are the ancestral spirits that are worshipped in Haitian voodoo) everything else was reserved to the highest level of of the tribe before one could hear of it. Should one hear of this sacrosanct information prematurely, their earlobes would be decapitated and sacrificed to Ldo to prevent any retribution from making it s way upon the tribe. The tribes believed that such information was granted directly by the spirits, and if misused or exposed at an inappropriate time, would invoke their wrath upon everyone. • 9. Summary Of Too Many People Are Going To College The standard way of thinking about college has often given the impression that education will open doors. College is foretold to be the wisest choice a student can make to better their future with a successful, high paying job. Yet Charles Murray, author of the article Too Many People Are Going To College, introduces a controversial side to the argument, believing that the decision for students to attend college is one of great importance, but the choice may be made too soon. Murray emphasizes the reasons why this situation exists and continues to be proven true in today s society with factors such as the misleading statements to students about college and the high academic standards students must conform to. In discussions of Charles Murray, he expresses his opinion on the thoughts and feelings that are being transferred to students before college, claiming them to be misleading. Murray brings to light the problem that exists in the constant pushing of guidance counselors, teachers, and even politicians to aspire for a college degree no matter what, treating every failure to go to college as an injustice (Murray 48). Yet, by doing so, parents and students are often blindsided by the overwhelming cost of college that many cannot afford, or the sheer amount of education students would put themselves through for no reason at all. Murray observes that one aspect of this phenomenon has been labeled misaligned ambitions, meaning that adolescents have career ambitions that are inconsistent with their educational plans (Murray 48). Convincing students that college is the only guiding light to a better life forces students to see college as such, an intellectual heaven where they can become anything, such as a doctor or an attorney without understanding the educational hurdles they must surmount to achieve their goal (Murray 48 49). They then attend a four year university with the depiction of college as a place where B.A.s are handed out fresh in their minds, thoughtless as to if that particular college they are attending even has the educational requirements needed to complete their career goals (Murray 49). Unfortunately, as Murray reminds us, this is the system that is in place. For a brutal fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Coney Island Middle Class Coney Island was a herald of change from the very beginning. The rise of powerful forces demonstrate the influence of mass consumerism and enterprises over the progressive voice occurred between 1880 and 1911. A series of ingeniously designed amusement parks emerged as the products of various showmen. These people intentionally targeted the middle class by appealing to their values of refinement. While reformers stood by the failures of society, these parks offered a positive approach to life. The height of visual spectacle and novelty was the Luna Park, which shunned traditional Victorian norms of civility and refinement and turned towards lavish attractions. Middle class ideas of leisure changed along with their own patterns and behaviors as a result. Novelty was the crucial element of the cultural changes that emerged in those years. Many examples are evidence of the changing middle class tastes and values. Novelty, commercialization and consumerism helped insinuate the middle class way of life at Coney Island. It s effectiveness is not determined by politics, but by positive results. The vision of Obamacare is to provide healthcare for all Americans. The legislation provides the tools and framework to allow this ambitious goal of Obamacare to be met. Now, three years after its start date, it s clear these goals are well on the way to being achieved. Obviously, in a free society, there will be those who disagree and will not sign up for healthcare for various reasons. Despite these people who disagree, the vast majority of Americans are now insured. Obamacare is effective because it expands overall health benefits, provides coverage for millions, and helps the economy, allowing Americans to be healthier, live longer, and out of medical debt. The primary purpose of Obamacare is to provide access to healthcare to all Americans. Since it was implemented three years ago, it has succeeded in adding many Americans to the roles of the insured. In addition, the insurance provided is not a watered down version of health care. Each person insured is guaranteed a minimum of 10 essential health benefits. Mark Lowry is a Christian songwriter, comedian, and singer. Buddy Greene is also a songwriter and singer. They included scripture in this song, but instead of verses, they used only words. For example, the words in the third verse, Lord of all Creation and the Great I Am are mentioned in the bible. One thing confusing in this song is when it uses the word delivered as a homonym. This word means to give birth or to rescue, which both definitions are used in the same verse; This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you... As it is now, the policy is that, in order to become a member, the applicant must have a permanent residency within the County of Waukesha. He or she must be at least be 18 of age and a diagnosed mental illness, only. Unfortunately this policy also dictates that there are limitations for potential applicants. Waukesha residency does not include staying in a local shelter, which is under the current statutes not considered as a permanent living arrangement. One of the main reason is that by accepting applicants from a shelter would change the dynamics in such matter that the focus of the program would change and possible endanger the wellbeing and safety of the current members. Another weak point are secondary disabilities, both physical and developmentally. Again reason is that the focus of the program would change and secondly, staff is not trained properly to service members with a developmental disability. Although I have argued for altering the current policies, management stays strong in their convictions that any change would harm the program. It would also mean that they have to hire more and qualified staff. As funds are coming from Transitional Employment (TE SIDES) and payed through vendors like DVR. • 27. The Effects Of Radiation On Public Health The Effects of Radiation in the Environment on Public Health Introduction Radiation in the environment is widespread and a necessary process for the existence of life. We encounter it from natural sources like the sun or from modern technology such as computed tomography better known as CT scan, and nuclear power plants. Radiation from sunlight is essential but too much of it can be harmful, just as the use of radiation in CT scans. Computed tomography can provide lifesaving information about disease but can also cause disease. One of the topics that every so often pops up in the news is radioactive waste management and protecting the public against the hazards of radioactive waste from power plants and other facilities that produce radioactive waste. People want to know where is this waste disposed and/or stored and who has access this material. Many of the concerns center around the dangers of radioactive leaks and exposure; consequently, most people do not want this material in their neighborhood. Another concern is the use of waste material as nuclear weapons by terrorists. The disposal and managing of radioactive waste is extremely complicated, not only because of the dangers hazardous waste poses, but also because of the strict compliance the management of this waste must undergo. If radioactive hazardous waste is compliant with the regulations of all the governing federal agencies, it does not pose an environmental public health risk. This paper will discuss ... • 29. Effects Of Ocean Acidification On Shellfish Introduction The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the effects of ocean acidification and temperature increase on shellfish. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began, carbon dioxide emission in the air has greatly increased, and around the same time, the temperature of the ocean, along with the atmosphere, showed a similar trend. Scientists claimd that ocean acidification and temperature increase is deadly to marine life, including shellfish. It was hypothesized that the mass of the shells of shellfish will decrease due to acidification and temperature increase because acid is known to break down bones and because high temperature can damage skin cells. Ocean acidification is happening throughout the oceans at this very moment. Ever since the start of the Industrial Revolution, excess amounts of carbon dioxide have been released to the atmosphere. The ocean absorbs around a quarter of the carbon dioxide released every year, so as the amount of CO2 increases in the air, so does the amount of CO2 in the ocean. Scientists, at first thought this was beneficial to the environment as the ocean was removing greenhouse gas from the atmosphere; however, it slowly changed the chemistry of the oceans. The increase of carbon dioxide in the oceans led them to become more acidic, which affected the marine ecosystems. • 38. Objectification Of Women Essay Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . However there is a well known, well discussed, universal definition of perfection for all women. One that is consistent throughout different areas of the world and different allotments of the human culture. This standard of the ideal woman is based off of not only physical but intellectual standards predominantly in advertising. According to Margaret Atwood in The Female Body, a woman s body is used in today s culture to sell and advertise products . These products vary from door knockers, bottle openers, clocks with ticking bellies, lampshades, and nutcrackers . By having stores sell these items they are completely promoting the objectification of women to help sell their goods and services which is down right direful. How are women expected to ever be treated equal if business continue to sell discriminatory product, lessening the view of the female anatomy. Materialistic items are not the only way a female s body is exploited in today s culture. Aside from bottle openers and clocks, women are universally seen as a renewable sex symbol The Female Body (pg. 1013 para. 6) especially in magazines. • 39. The Reading Of Beyond Heroes And Holidays Essay Through the reading of Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K 12 Anti Racist, Multicultural Education and Staff Development and A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota I have not only learned about the experiences of others, but have also gained a deeper understanding of my own racial and cultural identity and how that relates to other identities around me. In learning this information, I feel that I will not only be able to understand and relate better to my future students, but also understand their backgrounds and how they are affecting them presently. Therefore, I will be able to teach to individuals in the way they need me to, but also create a more welcoming and inclusive environment (racially, culturally, and otherwise) in my future classroom. The information I have read has helped me to understand my own racial and cultural identity, how it relates to the identities of my future students, and what I can do to make educational institutions more racially and culturally inclusive. Recently I have been evaluating what I think to be my own racial and cultural identity. As a Caucasian of mostly German decent who grew up in the upper Midwest, I blended in with the majority of people around me. Due to this fact, I did not often think about race, and when I did it was thinking about how others were different than me and the rest of us . I was a product of my culture and the society surrounding me; I regret this thinking now, and do deeply apologize. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Modern English Language There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of the World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the evolution of the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and varieties that have risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the English language. In the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States of America (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro Hungarians, Russians, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants would form their own communities in which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ... accent and an idiosyncratic syntax (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this time, the British Empire spanned nearly twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, and several other countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the English language and contributed some of their own words as well (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). Through the colonization process, several varieties of the English language were produced. Examples of the New Englishes were Australian English, South African English, Caribbean English, and South Asian (History: Late ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Death By Neil Degrasse Tyson Analysis By reading the book Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, one can deduce that the author, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is man of intelligence with a love for the ways of the universe. He clearly has a passion for what he does, as he immerses himself in his personal interests by giving public lectures about the cosmos (346). He values his personal interest so much that he has solved how long it would take to cook a 16 inch pepperoni pizza on Venus; the answer is seven seconds (80). Tyson obviously has a strong enthusiasm for what he does as an astrophysicist and has spent many years in this field. Throughout the book, he explains concepts in ways that the reader is able to understand and relate to. He uses simple topics to help explain our complex universe. For example, he introduces the idea of a constant and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader learns more about Tyson through the chapter Holy Wars, in which he explains his beliefs on God and religion. While the author does not indicate that he is an atheist, the reader is drawn to the conclusion that he does not believe in God. He states that if the Bible had ever been shown to be a rich source of scientific answers and understanding, [scientists] would be mining it daily for cosmic discovery (352). This statement evidently states that the Bible holds no valuable information with regards to the universal laws and ideas. On the last page of the book, Tyson further emphasizes that one cannot put complete faith in a higher being by stating that [God] does not want students who could make the next major breakthrough in renewable energy sources or space travel to have been taught that anything they do not understand, and that nobody yet understands, is divinely constructed and therefore beyond intellectual capability ... In the offices of the Market Street Railway Company, the receptionist seemed as surprised to see me there as I was surprised to find the interior dingy and the décor drab. Somehow I had expected waxed surfaces and carpeted floors. If I had met no resistance, I might have decided against working for such a poor mouth looking concern. As it was, I was explained that I had come to see about a job. She asked, was I sent by an agency, and when I replied that I was not, she told me they were only accepting applicants from agencies. The classified pages of the morning papers had listed advertisements for motorettes and conductorettes and I reminded her of that. Most of the people who need Malarone have no access to consistent health care, and cannot afford to pay for the medicine. With this in mind, Glaxo Wellcome founded a donation program to make up to one million courses of Malarone per year available under carefully controlled conditions to the countries that need it most.
