PUBLIC TRANSPORT BUS TRACKING &
TRACING SYSTEM

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Due to ever-increasing population, even though the
number of people travelling by bus is increasing , the
number of people opting for their own vehicles is also
increasing rapidly because of reasons such as inflexibility,
time-constraint, uncertainty, waiting time, over-crowding
in bus, incidents, etc.
Therefore, there are major traffic congestions at rush
hours on daily basis in the city.
Pollution levels are increasing.
SOLUTION
•Develop a mobile phone and/or web based app for bus tracking systems.
•Install GPS systems in all the buses.
•These applications will require the user to first configure their routes (eg:
home to office/school/college and vice versa, etc.) so that the app can
display all the buses on that route.
•It will allow the users to navigate a certain bus using GPS and also
calculate the ETA of a certain bus on a specified bus stop.
•Displays can be installed on the Bus stops so that the people waiting there
can know when the bus will arrive.
TECHNOLOGY
•Application: End user application.
Android/iOS and/or web application.
• GPS system installed in buses which will give the exact co-
ordinates of the bus at a given time and the direction in which the
bus is heading. After computing this, the information will be
transmitted to the server for further computations.
•Server:
1. It is used to maintain the data of all routes, the buses which
travel on the route and the bus stops where and when a certain
bus stops.
2. Used to calculate ETA of the all the buses at the next bus stop.
3. To receive information about the speed of the bus and its
location.
The server will maintain the information about the routes and
buses and bus stops using tables i.e RDBMS.

can expand our scope for all the cities in Maharashtra
then India and then the developing South Asian
countries.
