4. Introduction
• A vehicle tracking system is a commonly
used application for tracking vehicles. Due
to traffic congestion and road works, most
of the buses are delayed. People have to
wait for their bus at the bus stops for a long
time without even knowing when the bus
will arrive. Thus, the arrival time of the bus
cannot be guaranteed.
6. Features of Android
• Open Source.
• Easy to customize the Android Platform.
• A lot of mobile applications can be chosen by the customer.
• Provides many appealing features like weather details, opening screen, live
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds etc.
• Provides support for messaging services(SMS and MMS), web browser,
storage (SQLite), connectivity (GSM, CDMA, Blue Tooth, Wi-Fi etc.), media,
handset layout etc.
13. Admin
• The admin logs into the system with user name
and password, the admin manages routes, users
and drivers.
• He can add users and delete them, add drivers,
delete them, also the first thing the admin does
is add routes that are stored in the database, also
the users data is stored into the database in the
users table, while adding users the admin
assigns routes to users.
18. Driver Information
• This module is for the bus driver.
• The authorized bus drivers are provided with their
unique login credentials.
• They need to login and then have to start their
location service before driving.
• The current location of the bus will be updated
from driver’s mobile to the server every
moment in the form of latitude and longitude.
• The location of the bus is visible in Google Maps
when asked for.
22. Bus Information
• This is the most important module and is the whole and soul of the system.
• The users of this module need to log in with their unique ID provided by the
administration.
• Users can get access to the details of all the buses of college through their
phones. They will get all bus and driver related information offline too.
Students can track the location of their bus from any location. Student and
staff must make sure that their location service is active.
• Users can also get the estimated time of arrival of bus at their respective
stops.
26. Database Design
• There are 5 relations in the database:
1. Student
2. Driver
3. Schedule
4. Admin
5. Bus
• The admin manages all the tables in the
ERD(Entity Relationship Diagram).
• The student(user) is related to Bus and Schedule
tables where any student(user) can update the
schedule and for every bus there are many users.
28. Advantages
• This system is low-cost.
• Users can track the location of their bus from any location.
• Emergency messages can be sent to users.
• Drivers can easily manage route changings.
29. Conclusion and Future Enhancement
• A feature can be added for parents, where they could be given
a privilege of receiving a text message that their ward had
board the bus safely as soon as they get into the bus.
• Managing of public transports likes auto-rickshaws and trains.
