Status of Non-Government Secondary School Libraries in Bangladesh: A SurveyZakir Hossain/ICS, Zurich
The focus of this survey is to investigate the status of secondary school libraries in Bangladesh. From the online survey, 91 responses were received. In general, the survey revealed that a significant number of secondary schools have a school library but lack of reading materials and inadequate funding are common. Most of the school libraries provide traditional services such as book lending, in-house book and newspaper reading and only a few have ICT facilities and services, for example, computer, internet and online catalogue search. The finding of this survey has original value and suggestions may help to resolve issues that may adversely impact school library development in Bangladesh.

Two characteristics of e-books – availability and flexibility – make them appealing in the academic environment. Access anytime, anywhere, and full text searching are functionalities highly valued by students and staff.

Drawing on exemplary promotional efforts, this poster describes ways that Canadian academic librarians might ensure students know about open access resources and understand their potential uses and limitations, from actively participating in Open Access Week to integrating open access topics into instruction sessions and beyond. During the poster session, information about recent developments in the open access movement in Canada will also be made available.

Abstract
"This paper will discuss the Clarke Stained Glass Studios Collection, a collaborative project between the Library at Trinity College Dublin and the Digital Repository of Ireland. The project is digitising, cataloguing and making accessible to researchers and the wider public the business archives and the designs for stained glass windows of the Clarke Stained Glass Studios, held in the Manuscripts & Archives Research Library at Trinity College Dublin. The collection will be available both through the Digital Collections site at Trinity College Dublin, and through the Digital Repository of Ireland.
The paper will explore the relevance of a research-collection based approach to digitisation of library materials; the value of a digitisation project of this kind for teachers, researchers and the general public; the challenges facing such projects; and how these can be resolved through effective collaborations with internal and external partners. The challenges include issues such as the management of the copyright and orphan works workflow; deciding on an appropriate level of description for the digitised materials; metadata mapping; and promoting the collection to the right audience. The strategies to face those challenges include collaboration with library cataloguers, subject librarians and academics; tapping on the expertise of associated projects such as the DRI; and organising research symposia to promote the digital collection internally and externally. The literature on digital collections projects in university libraries will be reviewed in order to provide an international context to our case study.

Dr. Marta Bustillo is Assistant Librarian in the Digital Resources and Imaging Services Department in Trinity College Library, working as Metadata Cataloguer for the Clarke Studios Digitisation Project. Marta has a Ph.D. in Art History from Trinity College Dublin, and an M.A. in Information and Library Management from Northumbria University. She has managed digitisation projects at the library of the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and the Fleet Library at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island.
Tim Keefe is a recent transplant to Ireland from the United States and is the head of the Digital Resources and Imaging Services (DRIS) Department at Trinity College Dublin.

Google something, anything. What are the top ten results? Whether a scientific concept, political theory or research methodology, Wikipedia will almost certainly be near the top, if not the very first result.
As a large-scale collaborative platform funded through charitable donations, with a mission to provide universal free access to knowledge as a public good, Wikipedia is one of the most popular websites in the world and a primary source of information on the web, especially for people outside academia.
This presentation will explore the role of Wikipedia in the information ecosystem, where it occupies a unique role as a bridge between informal discussion and scholarly publication. We explore how it relates to the broader Wikimedia ecosystem, through structured data on Wikidata for instance, and openly licensed media on Wikimedia Commons. We consider the potential for universities to engage strategically with Wikimedia and the benefits of doing so, in the areas of information literacy and research impact, sharing openly licensed text and images to improve Wikipedia, for example, and linking Wikipedia citations to open access repositories.
We will discuss our Wikimedia Champions project at the University of Leeds, which has recruited PGRs to examine Wikipedia in their subject area, identifying areas of need and making contributions. The project has been an opportunity to explore ways of sharing University research with a wider audience in an open and accessible way and thereby contribute to the global commons.

Contributing to the global commons: Repositories and WikimediaNick Sheppard
There is huge potential for universities and their libraries to leverage Wikimedia in order to expose research outputs and collections. Wikimedia comprises sixteen projects in total, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. At the University of Leeds, the Research Data Management Service have successfully run a project that focuses on linking research data with the Wikimedia suite of tools via a series of ‘editathons’, in order to increase the visibility of research data and enable reuse on Wikipedia and elsewhere. The project - "Manage it locally to share it globally: RDM and Wikimedia Commons" - was the winning submission to a competition launched in May 2018 and sponsored by SPARC Europe, Jisc and the University of Cambridge, called the "Data Management Engagement Award", which aimed to address cultural challenges involved in promoting effective research data practices.
The project has served as a springboard to further explore Wikimedia strategically, both at the University of Leeds and across the White Rose Consortium. For example we are collaborating on a new project looking at Wikipedia citations of research from York, Sheffield and Leeds, and the proportion of these that are open access. The long term goal might be to establish a "Wikimedian in Residence" across the consortium. In this talk, we will present the project's outputs - including a toolkit that will enable other institutions to apply the same methodology. In addition we will explore the potential of Wikidata to link up repositories and other data silos in a manner that enables reuse and increases impact.

This includes the role of the teachers, school library professionals, school administration, and local education departments, and related stakeholders such as anti-corruption unit/department of a particular country! The purpose of this study is to understand the present status of the secondary school librarians in Bangladesh. In general, it is found that although librarianship is not a new concept in Bangladesh, the development of school libraries and to create qualified school library professionals has been slow due to lack of government initiative. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
