State Defined Reality in George Orwell s Nineteen...
State Defined Reality in George Orwell s 1984
Reality can have a more fluid and complicated definition than we might realize. Instead of being a
concrete ability to see black and white differences between ideas and basing beliefs on outside
evidence , a person s conception of reality might accommodate contradicting beliefs, reject and ignore
truth when convenient, or embrace concepts seemingly preposterous in a sane world. A postmodern
work of fiction allows for the shifting and changing of reality, thus giving the audience an alternate
reality to compare to the perceived reality outside the work. To this end, postmodernism employs the
simulacrum to blot out reality and insert a fabricated concept in its place. In a ... Show more content

None of the state s lies and deceptions could change any part of reality, although the state could, and
did, obscure the truth of reality for its purposes. O Brien tells Winston that he is mistaken in this idea
of reality. In a reeducation session, O Brien challenges Winston s belief, telling him reality is not
external (Orwell 205). He claims that it is only existent within the mind. In other words, it s all in your
head. O Brien essentially says that the outside world does not contain anything real until the mind
perceives it, and the mind should not perceive it until given permission by the Party. What the mind
believes to be true, to be real, affects the world outside of that mind. As an introduction to this idea, O
Brien tries to convince Winston he sees five fingers, when his senses, conscious to a reality
independent of Big Brother, report only four. The audience finds that a person could actually see five
fingers instead of four if the person s reality allows for the possibility and existence of such things.
Winston himself, his sense of an external reality dulled by pain and drugs, sees the five fingers instead
of four (Orwell 213). For a moment, he shares the reality of the Party. He felt a luminous certainty
(Orwell 213) and briefly absorbed the Party ideology before everything was normal again (Orwell
213). After a few more teaching sessions, Winston let go of his earlier concept of independent,

Raft Descriptive Writing
The white water crushes against the boat, almost as if it was waiting for us to make a wrong paddle
movement. The rapid we were going over was told to be considered a 5 and extremely dangerous. One
wrong move and you could get sucked under the rough water. High waves keep crashing against our
raft, keeping us constantly wet. On the bank of the river, rocks as tall as a small sky scraper tower over
us. There are eight of us in the raft, split up evenly along the sides of it. Our guide sits in the very back
with his single paddle, maneuvering the boat and watching out for hazards ahead. The raft we are in is
fairly old, but is still reliable. Gray patches are covering holes that were probably caused by hitting a
rock at a wrong angle. The boat is very sturdy and thick, but is extremely flexible in order to allow us
to easily pass over the different rapids. The boat maneuvers perfectly as if it were an amusement park
ride on a set track. The middle of the boat holds a box that contains various items such as extra gear
and a first aid kit in case of an emergency. The ride is rough and the boat is almost always jerking up
and down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Post Colonialism Essay
Introduction Post colonialism is a period of time following colonialism, and postcolonial literature is
typically characterized by its opposition to the colonial. Postcolonial literature often targets on race
relations and the outcome of racism along with generally implies white and/or colonial societies.
Simon During, in his essay discussing the nature and boundaries of post colonialism, argues for a
more inclusive definition, calling it the need, in nations, or groups which have been victims of
imperialism to achieve an identity uncontaminated by universalist or Eurocentric concepts or images.
Works of literature that are defined as postcolonial often record racism or a history of genocide
including slavery, apartheid, and the mass extinction of people, such as the Aborigines in Australia.
Post colonialism includes a vast array of writers and subjects. In fact, the very different geographical,
historical, social, religious, and economic concerns of the different ex colonies dictate a wide variety
in the nature and subject of most postcolonial writings. In this regard some women colonial writers
sketch a relationship among post colonialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It is impossible to attain completeness in the assessment of any one s character and more so in the case

described though partly but adequately by the above quote.

Here Amleth directly knew that his uncle was guilty quite in contrast to Hamlet s case and Amleth s
life was in great danger also in contrast to Hamlet s as his uncle Claudius was fond of his nephew. He
takes good care of him and calls him his son as well.
There is no great apparent danger to Hamlet s life from Claudius until he is aware that Hamlet knows
of his devilish act of murdering the King Hamlet. In the case of Amleth he had every reason to act as
if he were mad because that was necessary to him to accomplish his duty of avenging his father s
murder. It is hard to understand why Hamlet pretends madness when he could have done what he had
to with great ease and no one would have objected to Claudius dethronement as Claudius was not
popular with his people, which is quite evident from the fact that Laertes could raise a public revolt
against the king so boldly. In Amleth s case it was completely different, his uncle had complete
support in the coup. And A.C.Bradley further observes that Shakespeare was not properly able to link
all the portions of Amleth s story into Hamlet .
The other way of analyzing Hamlet is from the play itself. This is the most fascinating part and it
makes the most interesting reading. First and foremost we must go to the backdrop in which the play
is set and the introduction of Hamlet into the play.

However, some people oppose the policy citing that it is the right of the citizens to ensure adequate
protection. They hold that the policy should not apply as it is bound to infringe of the citizens basic
rights (Totten Pedersen, 2012, p. 468). In my perspective and attitude, I think the introduction of gun
control policy is a good idea whose time has come. This is evident since it will facilitate the
prevalence of sanity in the nation that operates under strong democratic ideals. Gun control should be
encouraged at all cost as it holds the capacity of eliminating social insanity. The existing similarities
with the group to be put under study is that we are all US citizens who believe in respect to humanity,

1. Jules Kroll is planning to enter the credit ratings business. Is this a good idea? Is this a good time?
Why?
We suggest it is a good time but not a good idea for Jules Kroll to enter the credit ratings business. In
order to know whether it is right for him to do so, we have used SWOT analysis to see the feasibility
of this plan.
Strength Jules B. Kroll the leader of Kroll Bond Rating Agency, is the formidable strength for them to
enter this new industry by his successful business career and abundant experience as an entrepreneur.
Few people ever penetrate the dark side of money, but Jules Kroll is one of them. He has done all his

So it is also attractive for Jules Kroll to take this opportunity to enter the credit rating industry. In
addition, the issuer pays model, which used by the big three rating agencies, lets companies shop
around for the best ratings, putting pressure on the agencies to inflate their grades. As a result, it is
very difficult to argue that they can adequately represent the users side. Therefore, Jules Kroll wants to
use another model that can assign unbiased and reliable ratings.
Threat The leading ratings agencies, Moody s, Standard Poor s and Fitch a triumvirate some liken to
an oligopoly, almost dominate the whole market. Their long history operations, great reputation and
customers loyalty in the industry lead them incomparable to new entrants. Furthermore, Kroll also
faces competition from new entrants like Meredith Whitney, a banking analyst who is getting into the
ratings business, and Morningstar, of mutual fund fame, and the Chinese municipal rating agency
Dagong with huge capital. Therefore, it is tough for Kroll to break into this new industry where the
three dominant incumbents have 97% of all ratings.
In conclusion, we could say it is a good time for Kroll to enter credit rating business since the big
three agencies lost considerable investor confidence during the financial crisis, and that the sector is
ripe for new blood. However, based on our SWOT analysis, we don t think it

Waiting Lines and Queuing Models Essay
Waiting Lines Queuing Models American Military University Business 312 For my project on other

interest in this application stems from my personal dislike for standing in lines and waiting on hold
while on the phone. This is virtually my only pet peeve; nothing aggravates me faster than standing in
a line or waiting on hold. Like most people I go out of my way to avoid lines, using strategies such as

(R. Cooper, 1981) My independent research will focus on call centers since I currently workin in one
and because they utilize this application extensively. Call centers are the preferred way for many
companies to communicate with their customers. The call center industry is vast, and rapidly
expanding in terms of both workforce and economic scope. It is estimated that 3% of the U.S. and
U.K. workforce is involved with call centers. In addition the call center industry enjoys a annual
growth rate of 20% and, overall, more than half of the business transactions are conducted over the
phone. (A. Mandelbaum, 2001) In basic models of call centers it is commonly assumed that the only
parameters under the system manager s control are the number of trunks available (K + N) and the
number of agents (N). In most contexts the cost of trunk lines is trivial compared to personnel costs,
so in this paper we focus on staffing decisions (N), assuming that K = ∞ for modelling purposes. Thus
busy signals are absent in the models to be considered. The classical M/M/N queueing model, also
called the Erlang C model, is obtained by further assuming Poisson arrivals, exponentially distributed
service times and no abandonment. It is the model most often used in call center analysis. (O. Garnett,
2002) In probability theory, a Poisson process is a stochastic

At the conclusion of the second war with the Phoenicians, its eventual outcomes heralded the age of

William Shakespeare s Everyman, The Summoning Of Everyman
Introduction and Thesis Statement
The full title of Everyman is the summoning of Everyman . It is a morality play known by many
people because every character involved in the play is imperative for the plot as well as the morality
interpretation. However, Death takes most of critical role (Goldhamer, 1973). Everyman is the main
character but without Death, the play would lack its illuminative and illustrative nature. Nonetheless,
the author depicts Death as the messenger of God, cruel judge as well as rescuer of humankind.
According to the author, human kind is supposed to be answerable for the mistakes committed by
Adam. Indeed, the bad deed raises the sins of Everyman
Perception and treatment of Death
The author of the play, notwithstanding his anonymity, perceives death as God s servant and
messenger. Indeed, via different descriptions, the author leaves various spaces to direct the reader
about further thought in regards to the actual thought of the Death as depicted in the play. Therefore,
throughout the play, Death s character is undeniable. Death is what all and sundry in this world should
be anticipating. Through the Death s image, the author depicts a description of allegory and physical
of moral death. According to Cawley (1960), such visualization is indeed persuasive evidence of the
fact that is invisible in the normal and ordinary life people live in. Crisp (2001), adds that the
visualization traps individual in eternal fear. Furthermore, it leads to great

How Did Tchaikovsky Contribute To Ballet
According to George Dorris, classical ballet music can be divided into two big eras: the years of the
classical multi act ballets and the two decades of the Diaghilev era ; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky falls
into the first one, which lasted from Coppelia in 1870 to Raymonda in 1898. He is certainly one of the
mainstays in Russian ballet; his creative works make him the first really gifted professional musician
who put an end to the domination of amateurism in Russia. His most popular and famous works
include The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty.
Sergei Lifar noted in his article that Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty were retained in Diaghilev s
(founder of the Ballet Russes) repertory in early 20th century, even though these productions were
rather unpopular in Paris during that period. Today, these Russian ballets from Tchaikovsky are ...

Speech On Yosemite National Park
Good morning! Today we will be going to Yosemite National Park. I hope you are prepared... Eddie,
the tourist guide, announced a little too enthusiastically for an early morning after my family and I

proceeded to sigh when I could still clearly hear him through my headphones. I was annoyed, but not

obnoxious tourists on the bus. When my family and I first agreed to go on a tour of Yosemite, I was
excited because I had never been there and I had heard many positive reviews about its scenery. That
day, however, it was hot, I was worried about starting college soon, and all I wanted was to sleep
comfortably without a Chinese tourist behind me complaining about the American government. Great,
I thought sarcastically to myself, what a fun trip. When we reached Yosemite, however, my attitude
completely changed. Although I was still with the group of loud tourists, I was able to mentally escape
from them and my worries for the short duration in Yosemite. The immense cliffs, everlasting
sequoias, beautiful waterfalls, and abundant wildlife were mesmerizing and for the first time in a
while, I felt humble and small, as if I were just a tiny ant in an incredibly huge world. We, as humans,

In 1877 the first human voice was recorded by Thomas Edison using tinfoil. He was attempting to
improve the telegraph when he realized that when he moved tape through the machine it made a noise
that sounded similar to speech. He then placed a stylus on to a cylinder made of tinfoil and spoke the
words of Mary had a little lamb into the makeshift machine.

Before music radio stations broadcasted things such as sermons, sports and the news. Department
stores would also have their own stations and they used them to advertise their merchandise.
In 1926 the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began the National Broadcasting Network (NBC).
These were groups of stations that worked with local stations to syndicate radio shows. These shows
focused mostly on music and featured several different live performers. The types of music were
diverse and could vary from country to jazz.
The Golden Age of Radio was the time period of 1930 1955. During this time was the great depression
and radio was a way to listen to music and receive the news for free. It was a cheap way to have
entertainment instead of more expensive ways such as going to a live concert or the movies.
Eventually radio shows and broadcasts about news decreased in popularity. All that was left was
music. Radio networks transitioned to playing prerecorded music of popular artists. The most popular
type of station was a station that plays Top 40. Top 40 is the top 40 songs on the music charts in that
particular time period. FM or radio was introduced soon after this and it instantly became popular
because it offered music in a high

Types Of Reorganization Of A Company Essay
Reorganization is the process of extending the life of a company that is facing liquidation by
restructuring it in order to carry out activities which minimizes reoccurrence of past situations. Type A
reorganization involves consolidation and merging and it gives greater flexibility since there is no
restrictions of voting stock. Nontaxable status is not affected by removal of unnecessary assets.
Additionally, this type of reorganization saves on time as approval from shareholders, which often
brings complexity can be avoided. In a type B, assets and contracts which cannot be transferred are
not lost, there is no substantially all requisite and liabilities of target s corporation are isolated in a
subsidiary.
In a type C reorganization, the acquiring corporation can be selective while choosing the liabilities it
assumes. A tax responsibility may arise if consideration other than stock is used in the possession of
the resources. Type D reorganization enables the selling corporation to be exempted from paying tax
immediately because assets transfer is followed by absolute liquidation of the acquired corporation. I
would recommend type D as the most beneficial to the client because the shareholders quits operations
once the corporation is bought by the acquiring company Furthermore, transfer of titles contracts and
leases may not be necessary.
In reference to the ABC Corporation, the client should use type C reorganization because it will enable

Death Penalty Impact On Society
The death penalty is a legal process where the person who had committed an insane crime of murder
is sentenced to death by the state, as a demonstration of punishment for what the accuser has
committed. Since long before, people have been using this method not only to show the consequences
of committing an insane crime, but also as a kind of notice to anyone who had the intentions of
committing such crimes. With no doubt, the death penalty has been a part of combating human crime
in society for many centuries, and is considered a necessary way to eradicate dangerous criminals. In
other people s views, the subject of needing the death penalty became considered as an inhumane and
unjust way to control and prevent criminal activity, its purpose and forms of use have been questioned
for many years and the debate on whether it is necessary or not has been circling around. The death
penalty needs to be kept in place as a way to prevent insane crimes, by taking an in depth look at how
it affects society. A just society requires the death penalty for the taking of a life. When a criminal
takes a life the justice a society has established is disturbed and the only way to accommodate for that
disturbance is to restore the peace by taking the criminal s life. Therefore, this allows society to show
that murder or any other act of the same sort is intolerable. The death penalty ensures criminals that
commit murder and rape won t escape or be released again. Ernest Van Den Haag, a

Cormac McCarthy s No Country for Old Men Essay
Ignorant souls will probably tell you that No Country for Old Men is a film of thirst for blood,
material wealth and a sheriff s investigation. Those that suggest this, however, are the same that tune

salesman. The Coen brothers masterful 2005 adaption of Cormac McCarthy s No Country for Old

In the relentlessly vindictive manner of McCarthy s novel, Bell delivers a welcomed voice of sanity
and justice to the human mind; his old school morals and philosophical reminiscences offering a
sanction in a world dominated by evil. But it is Vietnam Vet, Llewellyn Moss, who levels best with the
audience. Playing the wild card of the three, Brolin delivers a human centre to the film; the man most
identifiable with, even as the odds steepen against him.
As the minutes fly by, unnerving notions about the determined yet futile attempts of humankind to
guide their obdurate fate that serves as an unwelcome side dish to the sachet becomes increasingly
clear. The dominant hunter of the film, characterised by an out of place Mod beetle cut, is the epitome
of the Coens ability to point to biblical themes. Bardem plays the overpowering force that pervades
the audience even when off camera his malevolent presence is constantly felt and the aftermath of his
actions are unpardonably viewable. If the pneumatic hiss of Chigurh s killing device isn t enough to
suggest his vindictive nature, then his sadistic taunting of his prey as he tightens his grip on their fate
undoubtedly solidifies his role as the modern incarnation of the devil. This living prophet of
destruction is watched from afar by disillusioned sheriff, Ed Tom Bell, who struggles to accept his
damned world for the crumbling mess it has become. Bell,

Occupational Psychology Case Study
Industrial organizational psychology is a field of psychology concerned with the application of
psychological theories and doctrine to organizations. This field concentrates on improving workplace
output and interrelated issues such as the mental and physical welfare of employees. Experts in the
industrial organizational field offer a wide variety of services including investigating worker attitudes
and conduct, assessing companies, and perform leadership training exercises. The overall objective of
this discipline is to investigate and comprehend human behavior in the office. Occupational issues
bear great significance to psychologists, given that most employees spend the majority of their adult
lives working in offices. Work acts as the defining factor for all human beings making it an important
subject to study (Avsec, 2010: Weinberg, Sutherland, Cooper, Palgrave Connect, 2010). Other related
issues that are of interest to psychologists include correlating between the right job and individual
character set and discovering new methods of lowering workplace stress.

Why We Should Be Allowed Animals In Captivity Essay
Animals in Captivity Should animals in Captivity be allowed? Animals in Captivity should be allowed
because they get the medicine they need, animals can live longer, and the animals can get smarter. The
first reason animals in captivity should be allowed is that animals can get healthy. There are
rehabilitation programs that nurse animals back to health.Veterinarians can prevent and control a
disease. Second, animals can live longer in captivity. In the article, by Hannah J. O regan and Andrew
C. Kitchener states, Gorillas live for more than 50 years in captivity compared to 35 years in the wild
(223). The animals diets also help them live longer. Lastly animals can get smarter. Animals in
captivity do more activities making them smarter. For example, Rats raised in enriched environments
had larger brains (O regan and Kitchener 224). Animals in captivity should be allowed because they
are able to get healthier, their lifespan increases, and they get more intelligent. Animals in captivity
should be allowed because they can get healthy. The first reason they get healthy is there are
rehabilitation programs. According to The Current, Rehabilitation programs take ill or injured animals
and nurse them to health so that they may be reintroduced back to the wild ( Should Animals Be Kept

For the last three months, I have been volunteering at Bobbi and The Strays, while there I help feed

is that many times the workers have no time to be affectionate towards the animals. This can cause
them to become aggressive or even depressed making the transition from shelter to home much more
difficult. I really enjoy being able to sit down and play with all of the kittens and cats. But, what I

If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as
functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News
does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history
might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in
thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or
lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you
must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must
slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian,
since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than
recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation.
It had power before the printing press inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a
paper that prints fake advertisements and recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of
information and truth proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in

Post-Modernism Essay
In recent years, multiculturalism, tolerance and political correctness have been integrated into how
American society thinks. America seems to be trying to learn more about the ingredients of her
melting pot. These efforts can be best understood by examining post modernism. Post modernism is
especially important to breaking down stereotypes such as those that exist surrounding the black
family.
To understand post modernism we must first understand modernism. Modernism is the philosophy
that began with the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was an era when science and art flourished.

The meta narrative for the black family is defined by the Western standards: income and education and
any other quantifiable unit.
The history of the black family is difficult to research according to Barnetta McGhee White because
there are few written documents to substantiate the oral history (Staples, 1991 p.50). In terms of the
prevailing meta narrative, familial ties must be documented by family trees. Black families, due to the
breakdown of the family through the slave trade, rely on oral history to tell the story of their lineage
(Staples, 1991, p 51). The genealogy of author Barnetta McGhee White helps illustrate certain points.
The first is that since a majority of the research into genealogy is dependent on written documents
dating into the founding years of this nation, these documents are only telling what the writer wants
the reader to know. The history of black families is told through the story of the slaveholder and, thus,
gives information relevant to the business of slavery everything that measurable. Another point is that
those in power in the past control the future. If current society is viewed in chronicled terms, there is
little control blacks can have over the account of their family history because it will always be in
terms of the dominant meta narrative based on modernity. The conclusion to be made by the former
points is that modern thought is to blame for stereotypes against blacks.

A Brief Note On The Alzheimer s Association
Overall, people who take care of dementia patients must handle health care responsibilities of the
person with dementia more often than caregivers of people who do not have dementia. Some of the
common tasks outlined by the Alzheimer s Association include assisting with daily activities around
the house, managing the medications, helping with activities of daily living such as getting dressed
and bathing, and providing support for the person with dementia as the disease progresses. Dementia
residents require significantly more assistance with activities of daily living and help around the house
in comparison to other older adults (Alzheimer s Association, 2016). Due to the time consuming
responsibilities and the increasing level of care required during this stage, this might be a time when
informal caregivers outsource some the responsibility to formal caregivers and facilities equipped for
the level of intensity required.
Another task caregivers face as the dementia progresses in the person they are taking care of is
communication. The Alzheimer s Association provides a pamphlet on the most prevalent behavior
changes and recommendations on how the informal caregiver should handle such changes. Common
changes in communication include a gradual loss of ability to find the right words and organize
thoughts and emotions effectively, a decline in the amount of verbal communication used, and going
back to one s first language (Alzheimer s Association, 2014b). As the disease

Religious Symbolism In Cool Hand Luke, Directed By Stuart...
Cool Hand Luke , directed by Stuart Rosenberg, is full of religious symbolism. Religious symbolism
is present in some capacity in a majority of films. This is because of how easily recognizable and
relatable these themes are. Many film critics have written and discussed this theme in a variety of
literature works.
The first symbol, which one can clearly see is the main character s first name, which is Luke. 1The
book of Luke is a very well know book of The Bible , and Luke is also a close follower of Christ. 2

his tormentors and stripped of the respect of worshipful inmates (William Web). They were

out in an orchard. Drag ends up selling out Luke s whereabouts to the bosses, because he believes they
will go easier on him. One of the saddest stories in The Holy Bible is the story of how Judas betrayed
Jesus and sold him out to be crucified in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus and Luke were both
sold out to one of their closest and most reliable followers. 9 After Dragline betrays Luke, Luke is shot

The Pros And Cons Of Offshore Drilling
Offshore drilling is a topic of extreme debate and argument and one of the most debated parts of that
is whether or not it benefits the economy in the U.S. One of the first things to note is that stopping
offshore drilling could potentially damage the U.S. economy, and therefore how much energy we can
overall use. According to Mason, Joseph R., author of, The Oil Industry Supports Many Louisiana and
Gulf Region Economies , we can see the statement, the moratorium would produce broad economic
losses within the Gulf and throughout the nation as a whole . We can gather, from this, that ceasing

second point they argue against is whether or not offshore drilling really lowers energy prices in the

Nuclear Power And Nuclear Energy Essay
When clean and renewable sources of energy are discussed, the focus is usually centered around
energy productions like solar and wind. But an important source of energy is often overlooked,
nuclear energy. The viability of nuclear power plants has been a topic of debate since their inception,
with many both for and against it. Many countries are broadly opposed to nuclear energy with poor
public opinion resulting in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in their country. With the
potential dangers of nuclear energy and the historical disasters that have accompanied it, many are
resistant to continuing its development. For my paper I will be addressing why even with historical
catastrophes, forgoing nuclear energy would be a mistake.
In comparing different forms of energy, a comparison must be made between nuclear and coal. It is
already widely known that the burning of coal in factories has a negative impact on the environment
and is one of, if not the most, destructive. But what is not widely known is that coal plants emit more
radiation into the environment than nuclear power plants. In fact, coal plants release 100 times more
radiation than nuclear power plants (Hvistendahl). This is because within coal are trace amounts of the
two radioactive elements uranium and thorium. When coal is burned it produces fly ash, which
concentrates the uranium and thorium at up to 10 times their original levels (Hvistendahl).
But the negatives of coal don t need to be addressed

Good And Evil In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Another powerful symbol used to portray the theme of evil is the staff. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses this
symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first shown as
the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his
staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454). Goodman Brown was
mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree of Good and Evil. The staff
is shown as a symbol of a serpent, which is usually a strong symbol of evil and slyness. The serpent is

Brown then succumbs to the temptation. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment before he
ventures out which is when he finds his wife s ribbon and he begins to cry out that he has loss of his
Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife
then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his
faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do
because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. There is no good on
earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne, 456) Hawthorne
then connects this to the biblical story when the snake tempted Eve and the snake was the form of the
devil. Hawthorne uses different metaphors to explain the questionable actions of the snake and how it

Adam Eve Lost in Paradise
Paradise Lost by John Milton: Discuss the relationship between Adam and Eve, as portrayed in Book
9 of Paradise Lost. How does Milton s portrayal compare to or differ from how Adam and Eve are
typically portrayed, described, or understood?
Thoughts of Eve conjure images of a meek woman who is submissive and created to serve her
husband. Adam is thought of as a strong, beautiful man created in the likeness of God. He is the ruler
of land and sea and leader of all mankind. Their relationship is thought of as idyllic and unified, even
throughout and after their fall. However, Milton casts a different light on their relationship and
personal traits in Book 9 of Paradise Lost.
Adam s submissive helpmate becomes an independent, contrary, ... Show more content on

Therefore, his love for her leads him to eat the fruit because if she is to die then he chooses to die with
her because as he says in line 959 to lose thee were to lose myself (2111).
Now that they both have sinned, the relationship becomes one of contention, contrary to the traditional
image. Sexually it is lustful and depraved lacking the love and intimacy they once shared. Adam is no
longer mild towards Eve, but accusatory and blaming even speaking harshly too her which is opposite
of how he treated her before the apple. She in turn retaliates against him and tries to blame him for not
being stronger. She even accuses of him of not being able to withstand the temptation if it had been
him. Sadly, what becomes of their relationship is a blame game that is fruitless and controlled by pride
with neither taking responsibility for their actions (2116).
In the end of this book, Milton inserts an interesting point about the male/female relationship that
easily could be overlooked. He switches from Adam making a point about Eve, to generalizing all
women of which Eve is the representative. Adam talks of Eve s confidence and perfection and how
much he admired her, but realizes that is where he went wrong calling it his crime (2116). Then he
makes the shift towards women, which is craftily done by Milton, almost like a forewarning to men to
beware of the power of women in the following:
Thus it shall befall

Inflation Is A Serious Imbalance
Inflation is considered to be one of the most harmful economic phenomena that manifest in
contemporary economies, being considered a chronic disease difficult to control, which can cause
recessions (Thornton, 2012, p. 119). Inflation is a serious imbalance in the currently economy and is
represented by a generalized increase in prices and a simultaneous decrease in the purchasing power
of the national currency. It is a final indicator that shows at the end of a fiscal period if the monetary,
fiscal and legal policies were coordinating and were leading to consumer price stability. Deflation is
often defined as the opposite of inflation, namely as a situation where there is a general decrease in
prices over a long period of time. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it can be seen in figure 1, CPI (as reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis FRED)
recorded an upward general trend over time. After the crisis of 1980s, a period which was preceded by
the Great Inflation from 1965 to 1984, the CPI encountered a strong increase which held (with some
small variations, as in the 1990s and 2000s) till the beginning of 2008, when the financial crisis struck
the economy. After 2008 2010 (a period with low rates), the consumer price index started to increase,
with small variations.
Figure 2. Trimmed Mean PCE Inflation Rate for U.S. (quarterly data) Source: FRED
Looking at figure 2 above, we can observe that the level of inflation (as a percent change) has
experienced a maximum for the recovery period in 2012 of nearly 2 percent. After this point, the
decreasing trend was retaken. The Trimmed Mean PCE inflation rate is another method to measure the
inflation in the price index of the personal consumption expenditures (PCE). Here it must be noted
that FED practiced an inflation target policy of about 2 percent, specified since the beginning of 2012.
The 2 percent target was mostly a reinforcement of the FED commitment of low inflation rates and a
ratifying of a policy which was practiced for a long time. The 2 percent path was maintained since
1995 (Williamson, 2014, p. 112).
The imbalances of the price level stability are caused mainly by the monetary mass

Gender Roles in Genre Media
In order to understand the issues with gender roles in genre media you must first understand what
genre media is. In this case genre media is a term used to describe films, television, and books that
traditionally cater to a specific fan base. There are two general types of genre media, speculative and
science fiction (Sci fi) and situational comedy such as the Big Bang Theory. By focusing on women in
speculative and science fiction which is traditionally a boys club a comparison can be made to the
ways in which traditional gender roles and stereotypes are portrayed. Although this is changing young
boys and men are still considered to be the target demographic ... Show more content on

According to Stockett and Geller this binary opposition illuminated gender issues while cementing
female subordination and male dominance by restricting identifying women to their childbearing and
child caring responsibilities. Romanoff s infertility becomes her motivation and main focus during

fact Romanoff s best friend Clint Barton (Hawkeye) has a secret family with a child named after

Case Study Carotid Endarterectomy
Carotid endarterectomy in Moyamoya disease: a case report
We report the case of a 55 year old female who was operated for stenosis of the right internal carotid
artery in the setting of Moyamoya disease previously treated with extensive carotid and cerebral
vascular reconstructions. The atherosclerotic plaque was excised and the right internal carotid artery
was repaired with bovine pericardium. The utilization of carotid endarterectomy in the surgical
management of Moyamoya disease is poorly described in the literature.
Moyamoya disease is progressive cerebral vasculopathy characterized by bilateral stenosis or
occlusion of the arteries of the circle of Willis that entails a poor prognosis without cerebral
revascularization. We report a case of severe stenosis of the right internal carotid artery refractory to
percutaneous intervention in the setting of complex Moyamoya disease.
CASE REPORT
A 55 year old white female with a past medical history significant for ischemic stroke of the right
frontal cortex, multiple episodes of transient ischemic attack, hypertension, and temporal arteritis

endarterectomy in the setting of Moyamoya disease. It is unclear whether this represents

Heart Of Darkness, By Joseph Conrad
The political philosopher Benjamin Constant argued, no one has a right to a truth which injures others.
The question of lying has been debated for centuries: where should one draw the line with lying?
Should one try to never tell lies? Can the public handle the truth? In Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of
Darkness, Marlow, the protagonist, tried to answer this conundrum. He lied three times during the
course of his story, each time becoming larger than the last. As the philosopher Kant argued, once a lie
is told, the concept of truth itself is attacked, leading to increasingly great lies until they become too
large for the liar himself. In this novella, Marlow began by lying to someone of no consequence;
subsequently he lied to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A reader wants to trust the author. The way the book is written, as someone else s story, makes the
reader question what is being said. How does one know that the speaker is trustworthy when they can
tell he is hiding his true feelings from himself and the others at some parts in the story?
The first time that Marlow introduced the idea of lying is when he let the first class agent at the
Central Station believe he was more influential than he actually was. After committing this minor
falsehood, he explained in depth that it was unusual for him to lie, as if to assure the reader not to
worry. Explaining not only to the men on the Nellie, but also to the readers, You know I hate, detest,
and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but simply because it appalls me.
There is a taint of death, a flavor of mortality in lies which is exactly what I hate and detest in the
world what I want to forget (32), he was not trying to convince them that he did not lie ever, but that
when he did, it as for a specific, important reason. He lowered himself to the level of the pilgrims, the
worst of society in their power hungry mindset, because of his lie. Another important aspect of this
quote is that it was said before Marlow entered the wildness of Africa, and it s as if he lost his
innocence of the world. Before Africa, he was just as blind to the realities of the world as the other
Europeans. After this small lie, he underwent experiences in

Paper On Birth Control
Birth Control has been a topic of debate for years. Nevertheless, several issues and opinions arise
when talking about it. Birth Control was first released in the form of a pill in 1960. Since then birth
control has evolved into several different forms, including pills, patches, implants, injections, and
sponges. As stated by the Guttmacher Institute, more than 43 million women of reproductive age are
sexually active and want to prevent pregnancy, as of October 2015. Among these women who do not
want to become pregnant, 62 percent are using contraception. (qtd. in Birth control 1).
Birth Control was created by Margaret Sanger, who worked as a nurse in her early years ( Birth
control 2). In her career as a nurse, she came across women who had tried to perform abortions on
themselves and died from it. That is when she began working towards something that would change
the lives of women and give them more options than the ones that were presented at the time. Sanger
had formed a partnership with Katherine McCormick, a wealthy widow, who used part of her
substantial fortune to fund the extensive research needed before a reliable pill could be approved. (
Birth Control 2). The Birth Control pill was not easily accessible and was distributed unevenly until
1965.
Furthermore the Connecticut v. Griswold case took place in 1965 and is a significant case in the
United States. Moreover, this case emphasizes the right to privacy. The United States Supreme Court

Examples Of Chivalry In Medieval Literature
When one speaks of the knights of old, one must always speak of the Chivalric Code, that law by
which all knights, at least those spoken of in legend and Arthurian myth, abided. First spoken of in
The Song of Roland, the Chivalric Code details a specific set of guidelines and regulations that
knights had to maintain in order to keep the peace throughout the realm in which they abided. In lines
1098 1100 of the Song, the Chivalric code has become the basis by which the stereotypical knight has
been molded from and is constantly tested by it. There is no one real way to define a knight, but a
collection of narratives such as the Song and The Book of the Order of Chivalry by Ramon Llul,

Another of the examples of chivalry that must be talked about in an essay on this subject is the fact
that was constituted chivalry and subsequent knighthood in the past is not necessarily what constitutes
it now. Whereas the title of knight was mostly reserved for military personnel in the past, the honor of
knighthood can be bestowed upon anyone, mainly those who seek the betterment of the UK, as well as
artists, scientists, and others who contribute to the overall well being of not only UK citizenry, but for
the betterment of all humankind. Yet another example of chivalry that cannot be overlooked is the fact
that knighthood took on many societies and fraternal organization in order to spread its doctrine and
protect not only its interests, but also the interests of those around them in most

  • 2. Vandalay Case 4. Issue: Barry was working at Vandalay as a machine operator prior to serving 16 months in Afghanistan in the National Guard. Upon his return to Vandalay HR told him he was being reassigned to custodial duties at a 25% pay cut. The issue is whether Vandalay can reassign his job to a lesser paying one upon his return. Rule: The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) seeks to ensure that those who serve their country can retain their civilian employment and benefits, and can seek employment free from discrimination because of their service, by expanding the cumulative length of time that an individual may be absent from work for uniformed services duty and retain reemployment rights (Workplace Fairness). Conclusion: The employees at Vandalay Industries at the time of Hugo s statement can look to file suit against Hugo for deformation of character. However because the statement was spoken and not written they will have a harder time winning the lawsuit. 6. Issue: VP of Vandalay Industries, Hugo notifies all employees they are now subject to 24 hour monitoring. • 3. State Defined Reality in George Orwell s Nineteen... State Defined Reality in George Orwell s 1984 Reality can have a more fluid and complicated definition than we might realize. Instead of being a concrete ability to see black and white differences between ideas and basing beliefs on outside evidence , a person s conception of reality might accommodate contradicting beliefs, reject and ignore truth when convenient, or embrace concepts seemingly preposterous in a sane world. A postmodern work of fiction allows for the shifting and changing of reality, thus giving the audience an alternate reality to compare to the perceived reality outside the work. To this end, postmodernism employs the simulacrum to blot out reality and insert a fabricated concept in its place. In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... None of the state s lies and deceptions could change any part of reality, although the state could, and did, obscure the truth of reality for its purposes. O Brien tells Winston that he is mistaken in this idea of reality. In a reeducation session, O Brien challenges Winston s belief, telling him reality is not external (Orwell 205). He claims that it is only existent within the mind. In other words, it s all in your head. O Brien essentially says that the outside world does not contain anything real until the mind perceives it, and the mind should not perceive it until given permission by the Party. What the mind believes to be true, to be real, affects the world outside of that mind. As an introduction to this idea, O Brien tries to convince Winston he sees five fingers, when his senses, conscious to a reality independent of Big Brother, report only four. The audience finds that a person could actually see five fingers instead of four if the person s reality allows for the possibility and existence of such things. Winston himself, his sense of an external reality dulled by pain and drugs, sees the five fingers instead of four (Orwell 213). For a moment, he shares the reality of the Party. He felt a luminous certainty (Orwell 213) and briefly absorbed the Party ideology before everything was normal again (Orwell 213). After a few more teaching sessions, Winston let go of his earlier concept of independent, external ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rapid we were going over was told to be considered a 5 and extremely dangerous. One wrong move and you could get sucked under the rough water. High waves keep crashing against our raft, keeping us constantly wet. On the bank of the river, rocks as tall as a small sky scraper tower over us. There are eight of us in the raft, split up evenly along the sides of it. Our guide sits in the very back with his single paddle, maneuvering the boat and watching out for hazards ahead. The raft we are in is fairly old, but is still reliable. Gray patches are covering holes that were probably caused by hitting a rock at a wrong angle. The boat is very sturdy and thick, but is extremely flexible in order to allow us to easily pass over the different rapids. The boat maneuvers perfectly as if it were an amusement park ride on a set track. The middle of the boat holds a box that contains various items such as extra gear and a first aid kit in case of an emergency. The ride is rough and the boat is almost always jerking up and down. ... • 7. Post Colonialism Essay Introduction Post colonialism is a period of time following colonialism, and postcolonial literature is typically characterized by its opposition to the colonial. Postcolonial literature often targets on race relations and the outcome of racism along with generally implies white and/or colonial societies. Simon During, in his essay discussing the nature and boundaries of post colonialism, argues for a more inclusive definition, calling it the need, in nations, or groups which have been victims of imperialism to achieve an identity uncontaminated by universalist or Eurocentric concepts or images. Works of literature that are defined as postcolonial often record racism or a history of genocide including slavery, apartheid, and the mass extinction of people, such as the Aborigines in Australia. Post colonialism includes a vast array of writers and subjects. He takes good care of him and calls him his son as well. There is no great apparent danger to Hamlet s life from Claudius until he is aware that Hamlet knows of his devilish act of murdering the King Hamlet. In the case of Amleth he had every reason to act as if he were mad because that was necessary to him to accomplish his duty of avenging his father s murder. It is hard to understand why Hamlet pretends madness when he could have done what he had to with great ease and no one would have objected to Claudius dethronement as Claudius was not popular with his people, which is quite evident from the fact that Laertes could raise a public revolt against the king so boldly. In Amleth s case it was completely different, his uncle had complete support in the coup. And A.C.Bradley further observes that Shakespeare was not properly able to link all the portions of Amleth s story into Hamlet . The other way of analyzing Hamlet is from the play itself. However, some people oppose the policy citing that it is the right of the citizens to ensure adequate protection. They hold that the policy should not apply as it is bound to infringe of the citizens basic rights (Totten Pedersen, 2012, p. 468). In my perspective and attitude, I think the introduction of gun control policy is a good idea whose time has come. This is evident since it will facilitate the prevalence of sanity in the nation that operates under strong democratic ideals. Gun control should be encouraged at all cost as it holds the capacity of eliminating social insanity. The existing similarities with the group to be put under study is that we are all US citizens who believe in respect to humanity, life, and rights, however, we differ on the moral aspect and the extent to which the use of guns should be allowed. I do not support the imposition of strict gun control policy although the group thinks that the policy should not be applied. We suggest it is a good time but not a good idea for Jules Kroll to enter the credit ratings business. In order to know whether it is right for him to do so, we have used SWOT analysis to see the feasibility of this plan. Strength Jules B. Kroll the leader of Kroll Bond Rating Agency, is the formidable strength for them to enter this new industry by his successful business career and abundant experience as an entrepreneur. In addition, the issuer pays model, which used by the big three rating agencies, lets companies shop around for the best ratings, putting pressure on the agencies to inflate their grades. As a result, it is very difficult to argue that they can adequately represent the users side. Therefore, Jules Kroll wants to use another model that can assign unbiased and reliable ratings. Threat The leading ratings agencies, Moody s, Standard Poor s and Fitch a triumvirate some liken to an oligopoly, almost dominate the whole market. Their long history operations, great reputation and customers loyalty in the industry lead them incomparable to new entrants. Furthermore, Kroll also faces competition from new entrants like Meredith Whitney, a banking analyst who is getting into the ratings business, and Morningstar, of mutual fund fame, and the Chinese municipal rating agency Dagong with huge capital. Therefore, it is tough for Kroll to break into this new industry where the three dominant incumbents have 97% of all ratings. In conclusion, we could say it is a good time for Kroll to enter credit rating business since the big three agencies lost considerable investor confidence during the financial crisis, and that the sector is ripe for new blood. Waiting Lines and Queuing Models Essay Waiting Lines Queuing Models American Military University Business 312 For my project on other operations research techniques I have decided to research waiting lines and queuing models. My interest in this application stems from my personal dislike for standing in lines and waiting on hold while on the phone. This is virtually my only pet peeve; nothing aggravates me faster than standing in a line or waiting on hold. Call centers are the preferred way for many companies to communicate with their customers. The call center industry is vast, and rapidly expanding in terms of both workforce and economic scope. It is estimated that 3% of the U.S. and U.K. workforce is involved with call centers. In addition the call center industry enjoys a annual growth rate of 20% and, overall, more than half of the business transactions are conducted over the phone. (A. Mandelbaum, 2001) In basic models of call centers it is commonly assumed that the only parameters under the system manager s control are the number of trunks available (K + N) and the number of agents (N). In most contexts the cost of trunk lines is trivial compared to personnel costs, so in this paper we focus on staffing decisions (N), assuming that K = ∞ for modelling purposes. Thus busy signals are absent in the models to be considered. The classical M/M/N queueing model, also called the Erlang C model, is obtained by further assuming Poisson arrivals, exponentially distributed service times and no abandonment. It is the model most often used in call center analysis. (O. Garnett, 2002) In probability theory, a Poisson process is a stochastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wanted to look into Cinemark as an employment opportunity, simply because I can remember wanting to work at the movie theatre when I was a teenager and while I was in school. I felt a strong resource was being flexible, especially with scheduling. Both of the managers that I spoke with mentioned that they are able to accommodate individuals that need to work specific hours, day, etc. An example that was mentioned was a current employee that works at this location, who happens to have autism is provided his schedule weeks in advance, so that he can plan the other activities in his life. He tends to work the same schedule most weeks, regarding the days of the week and the time in which he works. • 15. William Shakespeare s Everyman, The Summoning Of Everyman Introduction and Thesis Statement The full title of Everyman is the summoning of Everyman . It is a morality play known by many people because every character involved in the play is imperative for the plot as well as the morality interpretation. However, Death takes most of critical role (Goldhamer, 1973). Everyman is the main character but without Death, the play would lack its illuminative and illustrative nature. Nonetheless, the author depicts Death as the messenger of God, cruel judge as well as rescuer of humankind. According to the author, human kind is supposed to be answerable for the mistakes committed by Adam. Indeed, the bad deed raises the sins of Everyman Perception and treatment of Death The author of the play, notwithstanding his anonymity, perceives death as God s servant and messenger. Indeed, via different descriptions, the author leaves various spaces to direct the reader about further thought in regards to the actual thought of the Death as depicted in the play. Therefore, throughout the play, Death s character is undeniable. Death is what all and sundry in this world should be anticipating. Through the Death s image, the author depicts a description of allegory and physical of moral death. According to Cawley (1960), such visualization is indeed persuasive evidence of the fact that is invisible in the normal and ordinary life people live in. Crisp (2001), adds that the visualization traps individual in eternal fear. Furthermore, it leads to great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Tchaikovsky Contribute To Ballet According to George Dorris, classical ballet music can be divided into two big eras: the years of the classical multi act ballets and the two decades of the Diaghilev era ; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky falls into the first one, which lasted from Coppelia in 1870 to Raymonda in 1898. He is certainly one of the mainstays in Russian ballet; his creative works make him the first really gifted professional musician who put an end to the domination of amateurism in Russia. His most popular and famous works include The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty. Sergei Lifar noted in his article that Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty were retained in Diaghilev s (founder of the Ballet Russes) repertory in early 20th century, even though these productions were rather unpopular in Paris during that period. • 18. Speech On Yosemite National Park Good morning! Today we will be going to Yosemite National Park. I hope you are prepared... Eddie, the tourist guide, announced a little too enthusiastically for an early morning after my family and I entered the bus. Taking a seat by the window, I tried drowning him out with my music, and then proceeded to sigh when I could still clearly hear him through my headphones. I was annoyed, but not because I did want to go to Yosemite; I just did not want spend time with the group of loud and obnoxious tourists on the bus. When my family and I first agreed to go on a tour of Yosemite, I was excited because I had never been there and I had heard many positive reviews about its scenery. That day, however, it was hot, I was worried about starting college soon, and all I wanted was to sleep comfortably without a Chinese tourist behind me complaining about the American government. Great, I thought sarcastically to myself, what a fun trip. When we reached Yosemite, however, my attitude completely changed. Although I was still with the group of loud tourists, I was able to mentally escape from them and my worries for the short duration in Yosemite. The immense cliffs, everlasting sequoias, beautiful waterfalls, and abundant wildlife were mesmerizing and for the first time in a while, I felt humble and small, as if I were just a tiny ant in an incredibly huge world. • 22. Death Penalty Impact On Society The death penalty is a legal process where the person who had committed an insane crime of murder is sentenced to death by the state, as a demonstration of punishment for what the accuser has committed. Since long before, people have been using this method not only to show the consequences of committing an insane crime, but also as a kind of notice to anyone who had the intentions of committing such crimes. With no doubt, the death penalty has been a part of combating human crime in society for many centuries, and is considered a necessary way to eradicate dangerous criminals. In other people s views, the subject of needing the death penalty became considered as an inhumane and unjust way to control and prevent criminal activity, its purpose and forms of use have been questioned for many years and the debate on whether it is necessary or not has been circling around. The death penalty needs to be kept in place as a way to prevent insane crimes, by taking an in depth look at how it affects society. A just society requires the death penalty for the taking of a life. When a criminal takes a life the justice a society has established is disturbed and the only way to accommodate for that disturbance is to restore the peace by taking the criminal s life. Therefore, this allows society to show that murder or any other act of the same sort is intolerable. The death penalty ensures criminals that commit murder and rape won t escape or be released again. If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books. The meta narrative for the black family is defined by the Western standards: income and education and any other quantifiable unit. The history of the black family is difficult to research according to Barnetta McGhee White because there are few written documents to substantiate the oral history (Staples, 1991 p.50). In terms of the prevailing meta narrative, familial ties must be documented by family trees. Black families, due to the breakdown of the family through the slave trade, rely on oral history to tell the story of their lineage (Staples, 1991, p 51). The genealogy of author Barnetta McGhee White helps illustrate certain points. The first is that since a majority of the research into genealogy is dependent on written documents dating into the founding years of this nation, these documents are only telling what the writer wants the reader to know. The history of black families is told through the story of the slaveholder and, thus, gives information relevant to the business of slavery everything that measurable. Another point is that those in power in the past control the future. If current society is viewed in chronicled terms, there is little control blacks can have over the account of their family history because it will always be in terms of the dominant meta narrative based on modernity. The conclusion to be made by the former points is that modern thought is to blame for stereotypes against blacks. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the common tasks outlined by the Alzheimer s Association include assisting with daily activities around the house, managing the medications, helping with activities of daily living such as getting dressed and bathing, and providing support for the person with dementia as the disease progresses. Dementia residents require significantly more assistance with activities of daily living and help around the house in comparison to other older adults (Alzheimer s Association, 2016). Due to the time consuming responsibilities and the increasing level of care required during this stage, this might be a time when informal caregivers outsource some the responsibility to formal caregivers and facilities equipped for the level of intensity required. Another task caregivers face as the dementia progresses in the person they are taking care of is communication. The Alzheimer s Association provides a pamphlet on the most prevalent behavior changes and recommendations on how the informal caregiver should handle such changes. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of Offshore Drilling Offshore drilling is a topic of extreme debate and argument and one of the most debated parts of that is whether or not it benefits the economy in the U.S. One of the first things to note is that stopping offshore drilling could potentially damage the U.S. economy, and therefore how much energy we can overall use. According to Mason, Joseph R., author of, The Oil Industry Supports Many Louisiana and Gulf Region Economies , we can see the statement, the moratorium would produce broad economic losses within the Gulf and throughout the nation as a whole . We can gather, from this, that ceasing offshore drilling/offshore oil production, could potentially harm the U.S. economy, and as I said before the economy being damaged overall decides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those that argue against the statement that offshore drilling benefits the economy say that the potential damage from the BP blowout had the costs estimated at $2.2 billion with the highest possible adjustments, paraphrased from the paper written by Bailey, Ronald, titled Offshore Drilling Remains a Risk worth Economy . Contrary to what the title states, just by looking at the summary of a passage from the text, it s clear that offshore drilling can really hurt the economy through damaging the environment, and that it is not a sound decision to continue because of the chance of a spill. The second point they argue against is whether or not offshore drilling really lowers energy prices in the U.S. From the article written by Hassett, Kevin A., titled Offshore Drilling Will Lower Energy Prices , a quote from President Barrack Obama is referenced, Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices today, it would not lower gas prices five years from now. • 37. Nuclear Power And Nuclear Energy Essay When clean and renewable sources of energy are discussed, the focus is usually centered around energy productions like solar and wind. But an important source of energy is often overlooked, nuclear energy. The viability of nuclear power plants has been a topic of debate since their inception, with many both for and against it. Many countries are broadly opposed to nuclear energy with poor public opinion resulting in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in their country. With the potential dangers of nuclear energy and the historical disasters that have accompanied it, many are resistant to continuing its development. For my paper I will be addressing why even with historical catastrophes, forgoing nuclear energy would be a mistake. In comparing different forms of energy, a comparison must be made between nuclear and coal. It is already widely known that the burning of coal in factories has a negative impact on the environment and is one of, if not the most, destructive. But what is not widely known is that coal plants emit more radiation into the environment than nuclear power plants. In fact, coal plants release 100 times more radiation than nuclear power plants (Hvistendahl). This is because within coal are trace amounts of the two radioactive elements uranium and thorium. When coal is burned it produces fly ash, which concentrates the uranium and thorium at up to 10 times their original levels (Hvistendahl). But the negatives of coal don t need to be addressed ... • 39. Good And Evil In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Another powerful symbol used to portray the theme of evil is the staff. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses this symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first shown as the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454). Goodman Brown was mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree of Good and Evil. The staff is shown as a symbol of a serpent, which is usually a strong symbol of evil and slyness. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment before he ventures out which is when he finds his wife s ribbon and he begins to cry out that he has loss of his Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. There is no good on earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne, 456) Hawthorne then connects this to the biblical story when the snake tempted Eve and the snake was the form of the devil. • 41. Adam Eve Lost in Paradise Paradise Lost by John Milton: Discuss the relationship between Adam and Eve, as portrayed in Book 9 of Paradise Lost. How does Milton s portrayal compare to or differ from how Adam and Eve are typically portrayed, described, or understood? Thoughts of Eve conjure images of a meek woman who is submissive and created to serve her husband. Adam is thought of as a strong, beautiful man created in the likeness of God. He is the ruler of land and sea and leader of all mankind. Their relationship is thought of as idyllic and unified, even throughout and after their fall. However, Milton casts a different light on their relationship and personal traits in Book 9 of Paradise Lost. Adam s submissive helpmate becomes an independent, contrary, ... Therefore, his love for her leads him to eat the fruit because if she is to die then he chooses to die with her because as he says in line 959 to lose thee were to lose myself (2111). Now that they both have sinned, the relationship becomes one of contention, contrary to the traditional image. Sexually it is lustful and depraved lacking the love and intimacy they once shared. Adam is no longer mild towards Eve, but accusatory and blaming even speaking harshly too her which is opposite of how he treated her before the apple. She in turn retaliates against him and tries to blame him for not being stronger. She even accuses of him of not being able to withstand the temptation if it had been him. Sadly, what becomes of their relationship is a blame game that is fruitless and controlled by pride with neither taking responsibility for their actions (2116). In the end of this book, Milton inserts an interesting point about the male/female relationship that easily could be overlooked. He switches from Adam making a point about Eve, to generalizing all women of which Eve is the representative. Adam talks of Eve s confidence and perfection and how much he admired her, but realizes that is where he went wrong calling it his crime (2116). Then he makes the shift towards women, which is craftily done by Milton, almost like a forewarning to men to beware of the power of women in the following: Thus it shall befall Him who to ... Inflation Is A Serious Imbalance Inflation is considered to be one of the most harmful economic phenomena that manifest in contemporary economies, being considered a chronic disease difficult to control, which can cause recessions (Thornton, 2012, p. 119). Inflation is a serious imbalance in the currently economy and is represented by a generalized increase in prices and a simultaneous decrease in the purchasing power of the national currency. It is a final indicator that shows at the end of a fiscal period if the monetary, fiscal and legal policies were coordinating and were leading to consumer price stability. After this point, the decreasing trend was retaken. The Trimmed Mean PCE inflation rate is another method to measure the inflation in the price index of the personal consumption expenditures (PCE). Here it must be noted that FED practiced an inflation target policy of about 2 percent, specified since the beginning of 2012. The 2 percent target was mostly a reinforcement of the FED commitment of low inflation rates and a ratifying of a policy which was practiced for a long time. The 2 percent path was maintained since 1995 (Williamson, 2014, p. 112). The imbalances of the price level stability are caused mainly by the monetary mass ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question of lying has been debated for centuries: where should one draw the line with lying? Should one try to never tell lies? Can the public handle the truth? In Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness, Marlow, the protagonist, tried to answer this conundrum. He lied three times during the course of his story, each time becoming larger than the last. As the philosopher Kant argued, once a lie is told, the concept of truth itself is attacked, leading to increasingly great lies until they become too large for the liar himself. The first time that Marlow introduced the idea of lying is when he let the first class agent at the Central Station believe he was more influential than he actually was. After committing this minor falsehood, he explained in depth that it was unusual for him to lie, as if to assure the reader not to worry. • 47. Paper On Birth Control Birth Control has been a topic of debate for years. Nevertheless, several issues and opinions arise when talking about it. Birth Control was first released in the form of a pill in 1960. Since then birth control has evolved into several different forms, including pills, patches, implants, injections, and sponges. As stated by the Guttmacher Institute, more than 43 million women of reproductive age are sexually active and want to prevent pregnancy, as of October 2015. Among these women who do not want to become pregnant, 62 percent are using contraception. (qtd. in Birth control 1). Birth Control was created by Margaret Sanger, who worked as a nurse in her early years ( Birth control 2). In her career as a nurse, she came across women who had tried to perform abortions on themselves and died from it. That is when she began working towards something that would change the lives of women and give them more options than the ones that were presented at the time. Sanger had formed a partnership with Katherine McCormick, a wealthy widow, who used part of her substantial fortune to fund the extensive research needed before a reliable pill could be approved. ( Birth Control 2). The Birth Control pill was not easily accessible and was distributed unevenly until 1965. Furthermore the Connecticut v.
