Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory Essay
Way more than time just melting away
This paper will take a look at Salvador Dali s painting, The Persistence of Memory, painted in
1931. As the viewer can tell, this is a story of time and life. The memories start in the background
where all is well and things are straight and calm. Moving on to the cliff, the observer possibly sees
a well behaved teenager. There is nothing horrible here that leads the spectator to gasp, and the
viewer knows this person made it through that time in their life. Then the picture moves on to the
age of about twenty, the memories are fond but in the distant past. The memories are protected by a
white blanket so that they do not just fall into the background. Then something happened where the
person had some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next item that the eye is drawn to is the fly, resting on this clock. Although this clock seems to
be melting like the others in the picture, the fly plays an important part in this painting. Being the
painting is named, The Persistence of Memory, the fly leads the onlooker to think these memories
might not be as old as the rest. Flies are drawn to items that are rotting but still have some
nutritional value; this clock is fresh enough to have more value than the other clocks around it,
giving the spectator the thought that maybe while the clock is a memory, it is not distant and is
still brought to the frontal lobe now and then to be revisited. After looking beyond the focal point,
to the left of that clock and even a little bit closer is a pocket watch. This watch is in a contrasting
orange color. This is the only orange used in the painting. The placing of the pocket watch is
strategic, as it too is on the shelf with the most recent memory, but the line and angle of the shelf
automatically pulls your eye to it. The pocket watch is closed and highly decorated with black.
Although, the viewer cannot make out what the clock is decorated in, it seems to convey that this
clock is very important to the scene. The onlooker might even see this as a memory that has not
been opened yet. Something grand will take place in this time line portrayed by this painting.
Oddly as this is, the eye begins to then follow

Comparing Henry V And St. Joan Of Arc
Henry and Joan During the scenes of Henry V and St. Joan of Arc, it is noticed that there are
certain expectations that are expected of each Joan and Henry. Each of these individuals are
expected of different things based on their genders. Joan shows that being just a girl doesn t
have to determine what you do and Henry makes it known that if you do certain things that you
believe in, that you are still a man and shouldn t listen to what other have to say and to prove
them wrong. This is where both people have similarities and differences when it comes to their
gender roles. For King Henry V, he is doubted sometimes that he is not a true man and that since
he is a king he should act like one. Henry shows and tells that when he is having a conversation
with his men about being a good king and man. He said Though it s not my place to say so, I
think the king is, after all, only a man, the same as me. The violet smells to him the same as it does
to me. The sky appears to him much as it does to me, and all his senses are those of a mortal man.
Without his fine clothes, the king appears just like any other naked man. And though his feelings
may be pitched higher than ours, when they plummet, they plummet that... Show more content on

Henry and Joan seem to have similarities and differences when it comes to their situations but
both of them make it known that your gender should not define certain traits or certains things
that you can and cannot do. However Henry made it more known that you shouldn t listen to
what other people say and other people s opinions do not define who you are or stop you from
what your goals. But in conclusion these are a few examples of the gender related experiences
both Henry and Joan had to go

The Cask Of Amontillado Theme Analysis
The theme for The Cask of Amontillado is that no one provokes someone with impunity. The theme
refers to when Montresor tells Fortunato his family motto, which was nemo me impune lacessit
(Edgar 211). This short story is about revenge, where Fortunato has injured Montresor enough to
make him want to murder Fortunato. Montresor didn t want Fortunato to get away with insulting
him, so he vowed to get revenge. The history behind this story that has to do with Edgar Allan Poe
himself is quite interesting. When Edgar Allan Poe was younger, he was a private at Fort
Independence in 1827. There was an officer that was new and mostly everyone liked him, except
for captain Green who was known to be a bully. On Christmas Eve just a bit before midnight,

Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner
Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner Trade Campaign
There is a famous saying that I have always heard since working in both the marketing and
business fields that I am involved with as an employee. The promotion that will be used for Hot
Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner holds true to that quote originally cited by Plautus (n.d.), You ve got
to spend money to make money. The main focus should be on the fact that the fuel injector
cleaner works. By promoting to both retailers and consumer this fact attached to a racecar
endorsements, Terry Welsh can gain the trust necessary to sell the product. Adding a consumer
guarantee, Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner also provides a promise of quality to both the retailer
and consumer. The company is ready to expand nationally, therefore they need to invest in a trade
promotion that will draw a retailer to consider the product. The main objective here is getting
Terry Welsh s product, Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner, onto the shelves of major and local
retailers, along with being used by body shops. Terry must strategically create a plan that will be
affordable to himself, along with being persuasive enough for some retailers to self his product.
Slotting Fee Promotion
At this time, it would be best for Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner to offer a slotting fee, combined
with testimonials from the retailers and customers who are already using the product and samples.
Although controversial (BOOK), it is not an easy task for an unrecognized company to

The Clash Of Civilisations By Samuel Huntington
Political scientist Samuel Huntington in his article, The Clash of Civilisations , argues a new
concept predicting the primary origin of future conflicts. His hypothesis follows the idea that the
cause of conflict will fundamentally begin due to the clash of people s cultural and religious
identities. Written from a post cold war perspective in 1993, Huntington discusses how future wars
will follow a similar pattern. He focuses especially on the impact of the dominant civilizationof the
West against the world s contrasting civilizations. Huntington s primary focus of the West as a
dominating force against the rest is one critique of his argument. In addition, Huntington s
definition of a civilization is also very open ended and takes an idealistic approach to what a
civilization is. His single minded hypothesis often ignores evidence of past conflicts and takes a
very black and white approach to us versus them . However, ignorance fueled acts towards different
cultures have caused conflicts, and Huntington does hold merit in terms of conflict being caused by
clashing cultures in his argument.
One flaw in Huntington s argument is clearly shown through the lack of a universal definition of
what a civilization is and over generalizes the concept. He takes a linear approach by labeling a
civilization as a significant grouping of people who all share a dominant identity. This is
categorized by religion, language, institutions etc. However, civilizations do not

Cross Cultural Interview
Cross Cultural Interview
Culture can be defined as a set of practices, traditions, values, or beliefs a group of people share,
whether it be due to ethnicity, gender, age, or even religion. Having different cultures in a work
place can effectively make a business stronger, especially in the United States where it is known
a the melting pot. I know that in the future I could possibly work at a pharmacy that has
employees from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, learning now how to understand and
be more aware of these differences would be most beneficial. What better way to do so than to
interview someone who is as far from being the same as myself as possible.
For this interview, I chose to ask a crew trainer I know personally named ... Show more content on

During the interview he stated, in order to be happy in business, one has to learn to respect the
abilities, efforts, quirks and opinions of others. I believe that there are various ways in which
individuals can show respect while in business. According to Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock (2000),
gratitude is of essence in any business. While in business dealings, one is always expected to ensure
that they thank their business colleagues whenever they have done business by assisting or
supporting them in whatever manner. This can be achieved through sending emails, texts, calls to
individuals that you always do business with.
Smith also said that sincerity is one of the major aspects that one can show respect when in
business. While I do believe telling the truth is the best policy as well, sometimes being brutally
honest in this world can bring consequences. Many individuals usually do not like when they are
told the truth especially if it is negative (Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock, 2000). With this being said I
was quite puzzled by Smith s response. So I asked him how being sincere showed respect. He
replied that to show respect in business one should be sincere while thanking them for their efforts,
assistance or good

Elements Of A Quinceanera Celebration
Experiencing a Quinceanera celebration is very personal and significant, therefore, finding the
topic for the essay was quite easy. The rights words can make a difference on any writing work.
The choice of words incorporated into the practice essay seemed to produce a vivid visual to the
readers. The quincanera celebration depicted in the personal essayallowed the reader to experience
the coming of age birthday bash of a young teenage girl.

Common Forms Of Collective Behavior
Collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in
which large numbers of people engage. More specifically, collective behavior refers to relatively
spontaneous and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or
being influenced by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous means that the behavior is
somewhat spontaneous but also somewhat planned, while relatively unstructured means that the
behavior is somewhat organized and predictable but also somewhat unorganized and
unpredictable. As a whole, though, collective behavior is regarded as less spontaneous and less
structured than conventional behavior, such as what happens in a classroom, a workplace, or
the other settings for everyday behavior with which we are very familiar. As just noted, the term
collective behavior refers to a miscellaneous set of behaviors. As such, these behaviors often
have very little in common with each other, even if their basic features allow them to be
classified as collective behavior. Common forms of collective behavior discussed in this section
include crowds, mobs, panics, riots, disaster behavior, rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and
fads and crazes. Of these forms, some (crowds, panics, riots, and disasters) involve people who
are generally in each other s presence and who are more or less interacting with each other, while
other forms (rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes) involve people

Captain Americ Captain s Superhero
Captain America is a Marvel comic book character, created in 1940. His real name is Steve
Rodgers. The Captain became a beloved superhero around the time of World War II. After being
rejected by the Army, Rodgers found himself as the test subject of a super soldier project. This
experiment was successful and it gave him abnormal strength, endurance, intelligence and speed. As
this perfect human and soldier, Captain Americaworked closely with soldiers to fight against the
Nazis. During a mission. Rodgers was forced to crash his plane into a glacier. This glacier kept
him frozen for almost seventy years. He was eventually thawed out in modern times. Today, Captain
America is a loved, and timeless superhero.
The Captain has a multitude of strengths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain America believes in justice, and that it must be served to those who have done wrong.
For instance, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier Nick Fury was chased after agents
claiming to work for local law enforcement and S.H.I.E.L.D. To hide from these men, fury went
to Rodger`s home, informing him how S.H.I.E.L.D was compromised. Soon after, he was shot
by the Winter Soldier. Fury later died while surgeon`s were trying to save him. The Captain
made it is mission to figure out who compromised S.H.I.E.L.D and to serve them justice for their
role in Fury`s death. In the United States we also have a strong sense of justice. We have an entire
system that is devoted to serve justice to those have committed crimes. Another value that is
important to Steve Rodgers is courage. As a superhero, one cannot be easily frightened. Therefore,
Captain America is not afraid to risk his life to save others. Throughout the move he is not
apprehensive about jumping out of planes, or fighting ten enemies in an elevator. In the movie, his
tremendous example of courage is towards the end. The Captain was in charge of overriding the
software for the three ships. This would result in the three ships blowing up. Captain America was
willing to let himself die on the ship in order to successfully override the systems. This action ended
up saving thousands of people. Fortunately, the Captain

Lamborghini s Bull Mark Is Inherently Distinct And Arbitrary
Lamborghini s bull mark is strong because it is an incontestable mark that is conceptually and

strong because it is inherently distinct and arbitrary. The mark is commercially strong because of
Lamborghini s strong sales and presence in mainstream media. Third party use of bull marks does

Prescriptive Norms Research Paper
Question No 1 Answer: prescriptive and proscriptive norms:
Prescriptive norms are silently understood precepts of expected behavior, closely related to manners
and good conduct, while proscriptive norms are taboo or otherwise unacceptable actions and
behaviors that likewise remain undiscussed. Both sets of norms differ between cultures.
Both prescriptive and proscriptive norms are defined by the expectation that individuals will intuit
their existence while growing to adulthood and entering society. They are seldom discussed openly
or in conversation, existing instead as a kind of road map for general behavior.
Examples of prescriptive norms include:

Accepting a proffered handshake

One group may consider a norm prescriptive while another group might regard it as proscriptive.
In the United States, kissing the cheek of our friend is regarded as prescriptive folkway but it is
proscriptive mores among Muslims especially when it is done in opposite sexes because this is
considered strange. Chinese locals in Guangzi province consider eating live fish a prescriptive
folkway but the Chinese in some part of Hongkong call it an unusual eating behavior. Moreover,
norms like eating bugs in Thailand, Nepal and Malaysia is a prescriptive folkway but it is
proscriptive folkway in some neighboring countries like Singapore and Taiwan. This is a proof
that norms vary. Also, norms in one group may be considered prescriptive during one time and it
may later be considered as proscriptive or vice versa from proscriptive to prescriptive. For
example, the Protestants 20 years ago frown at going to theatres or pubs but now it is an accepted
folkway. The Pakistanis and Indians prescribe the wearing of turban in their ancient culture but
now we can see it to be proscriptive in some cultural groups especially those who are in the United
States. Again, this also a proof that norms constantly

Hildegard Of Bingen Essay
St. Hildegard of Bingen The story of St. Hildegard of Bingen was unique from the any of the
other saints. She started her life growing up with a holy woman as a mother who died when St.
Hildegard was 38, and right after became an abbess. She was the head of an abbey of nuns and
lead them into the arms of Jesus. She then started a daughter convent. St. Hildegard influenced
the church through her countless devotions to God through the talents of seeing visions, seeing
the individual love that God had for each of his creation and because of this, she had amazing
stories to tell. St. Hildegard proved that every person is a child of God, and that God loves us with
equal love, and that he will always forgive us in the end. Her feast day is December 17. She was

Hildegard influenced the Church in many ways. She spread the word of God and preached
what God had wanted her too. She is someone who can be looked up upon, and known for her
amazing work as a songwriter, book writer, and preacher. The visions she had received from God
were truly a miracle, and the fact that she shared her life with all of us made it even more heroic.
She stood proud and tall for her faith, and did not care who did not believe her. St. Hildegard
converted many people into the Christian faith by announcing the love that God has for each of
his children, and he says that each of us is a living spark . People come into his kingdom to feel
warm and welcome with others arms spread wide. Her life began hard, being sickly as a baby,
losing her mother and father, but somewhere in the middle God found her. Little did she know she
was given a special gift from above. She not only had the visions but was brave enough to tell the
world about them. She deserved to be announced a Saint, and the church will be influenced by her

The Badger
The American badger is found in regions of North America from southern Canada and down
through Mexico. They usually stick to open grassland ranges.
Badgers Diet Badgers are carnivorous animals eating mostly pocket gophers, prairie dogs, ground
squirrels, pika, woodrats and kangaroo rats. They usually do this by digging the prey out of the
ground in their dens or chasing them down.

Some of the animals in the badger s diet include woodrats, prairie dogs, kangaroo rats, pika,
pocket gophers, marmots, moles, ground squirrels, deer mice, and voles. The badger is also a
huge consumer of snakes. In South Dakota the badger is the most dominant predator of
rattlesnakes, making the badger very important to the ecosystem. They also prey on ground
nesting birds like burrowing owls, and bank swallow. Some of the smaller things the badger preys
on would be insects such as bees, and reptiles like lizards, and fish and skunks.
Mutualism:
The coyote and badger is a great example of mutualism. Coyotes normally don t hunt in packs or in
tight knit groups but is often found hunting with the badger. The best example would be hunting in
prairie dog fields. The coyote takes the prairie dogs on the ground while scaring other dogs into
their holes where the badger is. When the badger hunts underground catching it s prey it also
scares dogs up to the ground where the coyote is. So basically the badger and coyote work
together to corner up the prairie dogs and eat until they get their fill.

The Role Of The Puritans
The Puritans The Puritans were a group of people who were set out to get away from the British
colony. They came into America to start a new life set apart from their past experiences in a
monarch society. Their intentions were to purify the churches of England of their Catholic way.
They are a group who worship the Bible. They expect all other Puritans to know their Ten
Commandments. They are one of the first groups to inhabit America. The first actual people
were the Native Americans and then the Pilgrims. There is a difference between the pilgrims
and the puritans. The difference is that the pilgrims came to America to get away from the
Church of England and be separate. They want to separate because they believe that England is
violating the rules of the Bible. The Puritans also came to get away from the church because
they believed that the church in England still needed further reform. That is why they started
their own church in America, so they can make their own rules and be free. The play is about
the group of puritans who came to start their church in Salem. In the beginning, there was little
talk of witchcraft (Wiggins, 2012). People were starting to grow suspicious of Parris because his
slave and niece and a couple other girls were dancing in the woods (Wiggins, 2012). Also his
daughter was in a coma and would not wake up. Eventually he decided to call in Hale, who is a
professional with witchcraft, to determine what was going on. Although he was said to be
professional, later on we come to find out that he was starting to think he was wrong but he
keeps that to himself (Wiggins, 2012). Then towards the end after there had been many deaths,
he decides to tell them that they are innocent. The judge tells him that many have been hung
already, so they cannot stop now because that would be unfair. What this passage says is, they
are a group who believes in the bible and worship the bible, and they are strict on witchcraft
(Wiggins, 2012). If somebody accuses someone of witchcraft, the only way to live is to confess
that you are working with the devil. It also shows how harsh the court is and how they do not let
anybody be considered innocent by making them lie to the court or they

Semiotic Analysis Of An Advertisement

SWOT Analysis Of The PESTLE Model
The PESTLE model applies the political economic social technological legal and environmental
climate to assess the effect on the goals and objectives of the practice.

Kurt Lewins force field theory adds demographics and cultural effects to this mix. A SWOT
analysis can be applied in conjunction with these to highlight the strengths weaknesses and the
opportunities and threats that will impact the practice (See Appendix III)

Workforce Management Tools (WFM) are utilised to allocate tasks to individual skills, with time
lines and other parameters. This aims to maximise efficiency and quality of service offered. OFP
ensure that the organisational (National Health Service England NHSE), the team (GP Practice) and
the individual (staff) goals are clear, well managed and aligned. This should maximise efficiency

The cost of labour (workforce) is a significant cost. The impact if workforce relevant skills are
lacking is an increase in cost and time taken to perform tasks and a decrease in productivity

Personal Statement Of C Company
b. In a Statement, dated 8 June 2011, Mr. HEL, former commanding officer of C Company, stated
he fully supports 1LT JRB s letter, dated 8 April 2011, seeking military awards for the remaining
13 Soldiers (including himself) of his original 35 man platoon who were left under his command
after
8 months of combat service in Vietnam. As the commanding officer of C Company, during 1967,
1LT JRB served under his command as platoon leader. Their unit fought in some of the worst
terrain imaginable and they were involved in some of the heaviest fighting that ever occurred in the
Mekong Delta. Their mission primarily consisted of searching rice paddies, swamps and jungles
south of Saigon with the express purpose of eliminating the Viet Cong and allowing the Delta s
agriculture commerce to thrive once again. By all accounts, that mission was ultimately
accomplished. A great deal of 1967 was served with the U.S. Navy living aboard their barracks
ships and going on patrols from their landing craft when they barracked at Dong Tam deep in the
Mekong Delta and dozens of their patrols were launched via Huey Helicopters. 1LT JRB also
mentioned that the officers were readily awarded medals and that the enlisted men s
accomplishments weren t always recognized. By the time of 1LT JRB s departure in September
1967, the company had experienced numerous casualties and much attention was focused on
reorganizing the unit with new Soldiers and officers. Therefore it s absolutely

Final Project: Juvenile Incarceration
Statement of Problem
The purpose of the juvenile incarceration project is to gain insights into whether or not parental
incarceration is related to juvenile incarceration. The research problem is the loss is the cost of
incarceration to the state or society. Incarceration is expensive with costs to society for the crimes
committed and the resulting confinement of the convicted offenders. This research hopes to
diminish this problem by determining a correlation between juvenile offenders and whether or not

Data Collection
The data for this project was collected by administering an anonymous survey to incarcerated
juveniles at (name of facility), the (name) receiving center and at the NAACP office in
Sacramento, California. The survey asked for gender and parental status (incarcerated versus not
incarcerated). Participants were given a paper survey and a pencil to complete the survey. See
Appendix for a copy of the survey.
Limitations This study was limited to juveniles who are protected under the law. This research team
was required to sign a waiver that the participants would never be identified. Another limitation to
the study is the fact that the juveniles might not be aware of the previous incarceration status of
their parents.

Through this strategy, children acquire important knowledge and vital skill on the dangers of
exposing their skin to ultraviolet radiations from the sun and some of the ways they avoid these
radiations. The idea informing this strategy is so as to provide awareness as well as education
about skin cancer from very young age so that children can acquire the right habits right from an
early age.
This strategy is a high priority because according to medical studies protection from the sun s
ultraviolet radiation is usually very important in childhood because sunburns that have been
developed early during the life time of a person can often lead to the emergence of skin cancer their

GONZALES v. CARHART, CHRISTINA GOTTFRIED, February 19, 2015, ISSUE #4
FACTS: in 1973 with the passing of Roe v. Wade, women were guaranteed, under a right to
privacy in which the woman has the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion, however,
this right was not confirmed to be absolute. Nearly 20 years later, in the case of Planned
Parenthood v. Casey, the central holdings of Roe v. Wadewere reaffirmed, by providing limits in
which federal and state governments can regulate abortion. Unfortunately, conflict arose between
Casey and Roe, when trying to ensure the woman still has a right to choose, which lead to
allowing a prohibition of late term abortions, unless the health of the mother was at stake. Next, in
2000, the case of Stenberg v. Carhart forced the court to consider a Nebraska state law that was
passed banning late term abortions and whether the statute was unconstitutional, which it was found
to be, because the statute did not include an exception for the health of the mother and that the
language used was so broad that it burdened a woman s right to choose. Then, in 2007, the case of
Gonzales v. Carhart raised the issue once again on a federal law that had been passed, the Partial
Birth Ban Act of 2003. The lower courts claimed it to be unconstitutional because of the lack of
exception for the health of the mother. This Act however, was found to be constitutional and The
Supreme Court decided to look once again at the precedent, under stare decisis

Fat Head by Tom Naughton and Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock
As the rising epidemic of obesity has attracted considerable media attention, so has the promotion
for maintaining healthy wellbeing. Tom Naughton s documentary, Fat Head, is a stellar model of
this media attention. It examines the exact cause of weight gain, and the reliability of the
Government s nutritional guidelines. The contention of Fat Head is that the U.S Government and
Morgan Spurlock(the creator of Super Size Me) present misleading information. However, Naughton
s bias becomes apparent through the careful selection of film techniques, and the silencing of
certain characters, who may express opposing viewpoints. The ideal audience of this documentary,

The refuting of Spurlock s criticism of McDonald s is also shown in the scene, where Naughton
requests for Spurlock s food log. In this segment, where there is on screen text accounting the
number of hanged up calls, the audience is positioned to believe that Naughton has been refused
repetitively by the representatives of Super Size Me. From this, viewers are given the
impression that Spurlock is a liar, as Spurlock is unwilling to provide Naughton the food log.
While Spurlock is mentioned, but he himself is not given the opportunity to put forward his point
of view. Nowhere in this scene do viewers hear Spurlock s refusal, or the actual conversation

sided.
Another instance in Fat Head that effectively portrays Spurlock negatively is through the director s
body language while criticising Super Size Me. Much of the time, Naughton has his hands on his
hips with his eyebrows synclined. This gesture connotes anger. Viewers perceive through Naughton
s aggression that the information addresses in Super Size Me is mendacious, readily accepting
Naughton s invited reading. Moreover, the employment of the camera at medium, eye level shot is

closeness makes his intended message more convincing.

The Ascent Of Money Summary
In The Ascent of Money Niall Ferguson gives an in depth historical look at money and finance. He
begins with ancient banking practices in ancient Mesopotamia, and finishes his book with his
predictions for the near future based on patterns that he sees. In the book he discusses the rise of
money and credit; the bondmarket; the stock market; insurance; real estate; and international
finance.
Niall Fergusson believes that finance and money was made as a necessity for urbanization and
development, but that every time there has been an international globalized system set up, that it
results in disaster. There has always been trade between people from different areas, but when it is
on a massive global scale it results in disaster. His premise is that the first true globalized economy
led to WWI, and that the United States is headed for a military showdown with China.
In the first chapter titled Dreams of Avarice: the Rise of Money and Credit discusses the origins
of money and credit and how it has come to help shape the modern economy. Fergusson says that
money had its origins in Mesopotamia as clay tablets which were recording transactions such as
for agrarian. He also says that credit was given by a Mesopotamian family to people as far away
as in Persia in order to purchase homes. I thought that that was very interesting. He then goes on to
say that the early Christians were not allowed to practice interest or usury, but Jewish law allowed
for the Jews to give loans to

Main Ideas and Themes of Beowulf Essay
Beowulf and Sir Gawain have many things in common. We will be discussing them later on, but
their main similarity is that they re both heroes. A hero is a person who must pass through a test
and a battle (mental, spiritual or physical) to help someone else. He must be selfless, and act for
others rather than himself. All societies have supported heroes, like the ancient Greek s Hercules
and the modern day Spiderman. These are hero stereotypes, with supernatural powers. Heroes don t
have to be stereotypes, but can be firemen, policemen or soldiers. Two famous heroes in ancient
literature are Beowulfand Sir Gawain.

Beowulf s test is to defeat the evil creature Grendel, protecting his hall and soldiers. Sir Gawain s
test is to resist temptation to steal a magic belt, and steal the master s wife! Even though both
tests are different, Beowulf s test and Gawain s test both test courage. The courage to take on a
monster and the courage to resist stealing and keeping you re word! In the end, both succeeded,
Grendel was killed, and sir Gawain received his blow, and stayed alive, but both had
consequences. Beowulf s friends got killed, and later on Grendel s mother attacks him, and sir
Gawain had been given a cut to his neck, and lost his honor.
The test the heroes have to face, is often put up by a villain, and both have their fair share of
villains. In Beowulf the enemy is a dark monster, which eats human and has super strength, enough
to bend iron. In Sir Gawain, the apparent villain is the green knight, who challenges sir Gawain to
a grueling beheading contest . After it s head falls off, he is not harmed, so he has some weird
magical qualities. Both have supernatural powers and striking appearances, but the difference is
that in sir Gawain and the green knight, the green knight is just the master of the kingdom in
disguise, testing the nobility of King Arthur s knights, and not a mortal enemy.

Essay On Computer Advantages And Disadvantages
When building a computer, there will be some challenges you might have to face in gathering
information, assembling a computer, and supporting the system after assembly. While on the other
hand, it can be difficult to choose what computer you should buy. The difference of buying and
building a computer comes down to personal wants, but there are disadvantages and advantages for
both options.
The challenges you would face when building a computer can sometimes seem overwhelming. As
you are gathering information, you have to make sure that everything is compatible with each
other. You can t go out and buy a motherboard, only to discover that one of your other parts doesn t
fit the right requirements. You also needto spend a good deal of time researching what you want, so
to make sure that things work together. When assembling the computer, you have to worry
about being gentle with your hardware. You have got to make sure that you keep yourself static
free as well because if you do not ground yourself while in the building process, you could cause
damage to your components. One way to avoid this is to not wear wool or rub your socks on the
carpet; This helps to prevent a build up of static electricity, and you could always buy an antistatic
wrist strap. By building a computer, you will have to fix the problem if anything goes wrong.
This can be a challenge since you have different components from different companies. If you
don t know what you re doing, you will have to pay for those damages; You can t get much help
from one company to try to repair your computer either. Another challenge you face in building a
computer, is that you have control over what goes into the computer. This can be a challenge
since there is such a large variety of components to choose from, with prices being different, and
the parts having different performances. At the same time, this just adds to the idea of full
customization for the customer. So the 3 big cons are; You are responsible for fixing a damaged

Pennsylvania Dutch Research Paper
As language develops over the years languages some suffer the times and become a thing of the
past. There are approximately six thousand spoken languages that are facing extinction (Kravitz). I
question the importance of preserving ancient languages especially because I grew up in a family
who speak Pennsylvania Dutch. Pennsylvania Dutch, a dialect of German, is known as the
wandering Dutchman language and is spoken exclusively in northeastern Pennsylvania by mostly
Amish and Lutheran Reformists. As my Great Grandmother and Grandparents are some of the last
to speak exclusively Pennsylvania Dutch I am lucky enough to be able to hold a conversation in
the dying language. My question is should these languages including folk languages be preserved...

The simple answer is yes, a particular quote that grabs your attention is from an article by Guy
Gugliotta he states Language is not one thing. It has cultural and community context . If one has
experienced any sort of move or connection with one s heritage you will understand the importance
of remembering. I had the incredible opportunity to speaking with my great grandmother Ivy Mest
(who will be turning one hundred this year) she simply said that Pennsylvania Dutch was the only
connection she had left to Germany after her great grandparents passed away. Preservation of dying
languages means preserving diversity, culture and a sense of community. Imagine how devastating
it would be to lose Hispanic culture or an Asian culture. I think that it is a part of human nature to
be different and also identify with certain groups it is what sets us apart. The fact that globally we
are a melting pot is not a bad thing. It allows groups to interact with others while maintaining their
own culture and forming new. However a melting pot can leave out minorities. The Pennsylvania

The Theme Of Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy
Being in love is like an amalgamation of different yet powerful emotions exploding every second.
It tends to heighten ones perception, hence, perceiving the world through a larger lens. It can
cause a deep sense of grief at times but it can also make one feel a certain kind of content. The
very exclusive one where the abundance of joy cannot be defined. Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy
explores the many sides to love. The entire poem is an extended metaphor that criticizes the
stereotypical idea of love. Duffy uses an onion, a very unusual object as a symbol to represent a
gift for one s admirer. The poet reveals the positive aspects of the speaker s attitude to love through
the use of powerful imagery (similes, metaphors, repetition), prominent... Show more content on

Duffy utilizes a plethora of different words ranging from positive to negative. She carefully picks
them to warn the reader what your about to read isn t an ordinary love poem. The words careful
and light introduced in the first stanza express delicacy and innocence. Love could explode at
anytime yet remain stable. Duffy inserts direct, straightforward words such as here and take it
to catch the reader s attention. These words are ended with a period giving an austere tone. The
use of negative words such as blind, tears and grief illustrate an image of sorrow and misery
creating an element of danger. Something quite uncommon for a poem entitled valentine . Here
Duffy takes the reader to the unpleasant side of love that is often ignored in most love poems.
She is conveying the true reality of being in love and not just the fantasized version of it. In the
second half of the poem, Duffy chooses to use a more bold set of words such as fierce ,
possessive , lethal and faithful which contradict the words kiss , stay and lips which is more subtle
and distinctive. The repetition of the word cling towards the end of the poem emphasizes that once
your love is vanished the scent the memory will still live on, leaving an impression in your life, a
permanent tattoo imprinted in your

The Man Who Saved Me
Out of all of the days I have been alive there is one I will never forget. I woke up knowing that I
was going to be going on my first airplane ride to Iowa to visit family, but other than a little fear
everything seemed normal. As I boarded the plane and said goodbye to my family I found my seat
and waited for take off. As everyone boarded the plane, I wondered who would be sitting in the
open seat next to me. The seat remained empty for quite a while. We were just about getting
ready to take off before I heard a man with a deep voice yelling, wait wait, im here. It was then
that I knew he would be taking the empty seat next to me. We all buckled our seatbelts and
prepared for the the pressure of taking off. We were all asked to turn our phones off, which
forced us to start a conversation with the person sitting next to us. I looked over and the man
sitting next to me was a tall man who was thin in stature. He had brown hair, green eyes, and a
black hat on. I began to try and start a conversation with him but he said very little. He seemed to
be very quiet and kept to himself. I asked him where he was headed and he replied with a mumble,
and said my friends. I didn t really try to talk to him any more, I let him be. As the plane ride
continued I suddenly felt a big jerk. Since I had never been on a plane I was worried, I then
asked the man sitting next to me if that was normal? He replied with a shakiness to his voice, and
said I don t think so! From there I began

INTRODUCTION
Motivation is the inner power or energy that pushes one towards performing a certain action.
Motivation strengthens the ambition, increases initiative and gives direction, courage, energy and
the persistence to follow one s goals. Motivation is usually strong, when one has a vision, a clear
mental image of a certain situation or achievement, faith in one s abilities and also a strong desire
to materialize it. In this case motivation pushes one forward, toward taking action and making the
vision a reality. Motivation, in its broadest sense, can be defined as forces acting either on or
within a person to initiate behaviour. It s what gets you going. And in the

Evolution And Evolution Of Evolution
What is the theory of evolution? Many people who don t understand science or Biology
don t know how to answer this question. Evolution is the process of biological change by which
descendants come to differ from their ancestors. In our society today, there is many conflicts
that exist between creationism which is the belief that a higher power created the Earth and
made living things and the theory of evolution. Some people are debating whether to teach
evolution in schools because the subject is very touchy to others. In other areas of the world,
there is wars against religion and evolution. I am on both sides. I don t really care about either
because they both sound pretty good to me. Evolution makes sense to me. I like the history of
evolution. It s so cool to see how different species have evolved throughout time.
#1) Chapter 10.1 10.5, p. 280 301 (Early Scientist s observations, Darwin s
Observations, Theory of Natural Selection, Evidence of Evolution, Evolutionary Biology Today)
There are many scientists and people that study evolution and it s wonders. The most
well known was Charles Darwin who traveled to the Galapagos Islands and observed
evolutionary changes in different species or a group of organisms that are very similar to each
other that they can reproduce and have children , but there are four major ones that we should

Everyone Is Mortal
Everyone will one day face mortality. This was also true for Prince Prospero in the short story
by Edgar Allen Poe, The Masque of the Red Death . In it is a version of the black plague, which
is called the Red Death . Prince Prospero secludes a thousand friends and himself from the death
around them, but finds that he cannot avoid the inevitable. The author uses many literary devices
to develop the theme of unavoidable death. One of the devices used is imagery, which evokes the
events of the story clearly in the reader s mind. Another is allegory, which is used by Poe to create
another story within his, as it is filled with double meanings. Lastly, Poe utilizes symbolism to give
the story meaning. Edgar Allan Poeuses imagery, allegory, and symbolism to add dimension to his
story and to express the theme that one cannot escape death, no matter how hard one tries.
Poe uses imagery to paint a picture in readers mind, create a mood, and emphasize the significance
of certain objects. One can envision the amazement of the chambers, which had ...a tall and narrow
Gothic window...of stained glass whose color varied in accordance with the...hue...of the chamber
into which it opened and was lit up by ...a brazier of fire that projected its rays through the tinted
glass (421). One can also imagine the way the crowd slows down to a pause when the ...chiming of
the clock... [causes] disconcert and tremulousness and meditations (423). These descriptions keep

When Does Fair Use Become Theft and Viceversa
Who really owns ideas, and how long should they hold them? When does Fair Use become Theft
and vice versa?
Those are the question raised in Brett Gaylor s documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, raises alarms
for those who think copyright holders have become too aggressive about protecting their
intellectual property.
The documentary highlights the popular music artist known as Girl Talk. Girl Talk consists of
one man named Gregg Gillis and he takes parts from different songs (usually popular ones) and
creates new music of his own. He doesn t use any of his own materials at all. A lot of people
consider his work stealing and what is known as Copyright infringement; even though he changes
the music so much, you can t even tell what all of the songs he uses are. Girl Talk is known as a
mash up artist, and according to the documentary, mash up artists have stirred up quite a
controversy with both the Copyright Company and the other artists they take their material from.
Copyright problems arose with the advent of the free availability of information on the Internet. It
was easy for people to steal music, movies and images from the internet and use them to create their
own mash up piece. Prior to the internet copyrighting actually encouraged creativity. Once music
sharing websites like Napster began, musicians and other artists began suing and copyright laws
became more rigouous in their scope and enforcement.

the people who carry the life of the patient on their shoulders. When something goes wrong, no
matter what the cause is being, the families and the loved one blame the doctors. The most patients
who need more attention are those having brain disorders such as those use drugs.

Aphorism Analysis
The air of heaven is that which blows between a horse s ears (Arabian Proverb). The exhilarating
feel of mane in my hands, four beats moving gracefully under me, and the breathtaking wind that
soon rushes by prove the great and true wisdom captured in this aphorism. Horses are as much a
part of my identity as my own name. No feeling in the world approaches the euphoria I feel when
I am one with the horse, appreciating the rhythmic movement of such a powerful animal as we
soar over a jump. I am never so at peace as when I am with the horse, feeling its soft nose on my
shoulder or its dynamic motion under me. Horses occupy my everyday daydreams and my greatest

However, when I introduced the topic of horseback riding in conversation as a child, both peers
and adults conveyed horseback riding to be a waste of time and an undemanding and inferior
pursuit. I deemed it necessary to conceal this passion after observing insults and unkind judgements
directed towards another girl in my grade who shamelessly advertised her love of horses. It became
exhausting to justify myself to people who repeatedly asked why I practice riding if I just sit
there. I learned to refrain from introducing the topic, if I was to justify to others that I participated
in worthwhile activities. While my bedroom exhibited copious numbers of horse drawings, horse
figurines, and even a wall decal, I strictly avoided showing anything to my peers that characterized a
fascination with horses.
Internally, I am not embarrassed or ashamed of my love for horses because I have experienced
the value of it firsthand, and know that the people whose judgements I feared have likely not. I
have had the opportunity to meet many horses since I began riding, and have learned from each.
My time with the horses is something that I would never exchange for anything. However,
throughout my life thus far I had continued to work against my values by concealing this value, so
as to blend with the crowd of my

The Australian Constitution Essay
The Australian Constitution
Will Australia become a republic in the next twenty years? This is a difficult question to speculate
on. The main area of law governing this issue is section 128 of the Commonwealth of Australia
Constitution Act 1900 (U.K). Other issues in this debate are regarding appointment, termination
and the powers to be awarded to the proposed Head of State, and the impact the change will have on
the States. Examining the history of Australian Legislative powers, and reasons why Australians
would want to change, is also useful when speculating on this issue.
The Colonial Laws Validity Act 1865 emphasized self government in the colonies, although denying
them the power to amend or repeal British law. (Enright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Chisholm et.al 1997,p.68) There is a feeling that for Australia to be truly independent, the ties with
England would need to be severed. (Mack, K., in Corkery et.al 1998, p.34) One view would be to
simply abolish the Monarchy. (Winterton, G., in Stephenson et.al 1994, p.17) However, others
might say that our current system is already mostly Republican with the only Monarchial elements
remaining being the concentration of Royal powers in the Ministry. (http://www.aph.gov.au/senate
/general/republic.htm#aussie)
In any event, severing the Royal ties is not that easy, as amendments to the Australian Constitution
Acts 1900(U.K) can only be passed in Parliament in accordance with section 128. (Chisholm et.al
1997, p.61)
Section 128 prescribes that changes can only be implemented by referendum. To hold a
referendum a Bill needs to be passed through the Commonwealth Parliament to authorize it. Once
authorized, a majority of votes, as well as a majority of States is required. This dual criterion has
proven difficult to achieve, with only eight referendums being successful since Federation. (Brown
et.al 2000, p.p. 68 69 and Chisholm et.al 1997, p.64)
If a referendum is successful, the Governor General will need to assent to the Bill to become an
Act. Moreover, since the referendum effectively abolishes the Office of the Governor General,
alternative arrangements could be needed to be

  • 2. Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory Essay Way more than time just melting away This paper will take a look at Salvador Dali s painting, The Persistence of Memory, painted in 1931. As the viewer can tell, this is a story of time and life. The memories start in the background where all is well and things are straight and calm. Moving on to the cliff, the observer possibly sees a well behaved teenager. There is nothing horrible here that leads the spectator to gasp, and the viewer knows this person made it through that time in their life. Then the picture moves on to the age of about twenty, the memories are fond but in the distant past. The memories are protected by a white blanket so that they do not just fall into the background. Then something happened where the person had some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next item that the eye is drawn to is the fly, resting on this clock. Although this clock seems to be melting like the others in the picture, the fly plays an important part in this painting. Being the painting is named, The Persistence of Memory, the fly leads the onlooker to think these memories might not be as old as the rest. Flies are drawn to items that are rotting but still have some nutritional value; this clock is fresh enough to have more value than the other clocks around it, giving the spectator the thought that maybe while the clock is a memory, it is not distant and is still brought to the frontal lobe now and then to be revisited. After looking beyond the focal point, to the left of that clock and even a little bit closer is a pocket watch. This watch is in a contrasting orange color. This is the only orange used in the painting. The placing of the pocket watch is strategic, as it too is on the shelf with the most recent memory, but the line and angle of the shelf automatically pulls your eye to it. The pocket watch is closed and highly decorated with black. Although, the viewer cannot make out what the clock is decorated in, it seems to convey that this clock is very important to the scene. The onlooker might even see this as a memory that has not been opened yet. Something grand will take place in this time line portrayed by this painting. Oddly as this is, the eye begins to then follow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Henry V And St. Joan Of Arc Henry and Joan During the scenes of Henry V and St. Joan of Arc, it is noticed that there are certain expectations that are expected of each Joan and Henry. Each of these individuals are expected of different things based on their genders. Joan shows that being just a girl doesn t have to determine what you do and Henry makes it known that if you do certain things that you believe in, that you are still a man and shouldn t listen to what other have to say and to prove them wrong. This is where both people have similarities and differences when it comes to their gender roles. For King Henry V, he is doubted sometimes that he is not a true man and that since he is a king he should act like one. Henry shows and tells that when he is having a conversation with his men about being a good king and man. He said Though it s not my place to say so, I think the king is, after all, only a man, the same as me. The violet smells to him the same as it does to me. The sky appears to him much as it does to me, and all his senses are those of a mortal man. Without his fine clothes, the king appears just like any other naked man. And though his feelings may be pitched higher than ours, when they plummet, they plummet that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry and Joan seem to have similarities and differences when it comes to their situations but both of them make it known that your gender should not define certain traits or certains things that you can and cannot do. However Henry made it more known that you shouldn t listen to what other people say and other people s opinions do not define who you are or stop you from what your goals. But in conclusion these are a few examples of the gender related experiences both Henry and Joan had to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Cask Of Amontillado Theme Analysis The theme for The Cask of Amontillado is that no one provokes someone with impunity. The theme refers to when Montresor tells Fortunato his family motto, which was nemo me impune lacessit (Edgar 211). This short story is about revenge, where Fortunato has injured Montresor enough to make him want to murder Fortunato. Montresor didn t want Fortunato to get away with insulting him, so he vowed to get revenge. The history behind this story that has to do with Edgar Allan Poe himself is quite interesting. When Edgar Allan Poe was younger, he was a private at Fort Independence in 1827. There was an officer that was new and mostly everyone liked him, except for captain Green who was known to be a bully. On Christmas Eve just a bit before midnight, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner Trade Campaign There is a famous saying that I have always heard since working in both the marketing and business fields that I am involved with as an employee. The promotion that will be used for Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner holds true to that quote originally cited by Plautus (n.d.), You ve got to spend money to make money. The main focus should be on the fact that the fuel injector cleaner works. By promoting to both retailers and consumer this fact attached to a racecar endorsements, Terry Welsh can gain the trust necessary to sell the product. Adding a consumer guarantee, Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner also provides a promise of quality to both the retailer and consumer. The company is ready to expand nationally, therefore they need to invest in a trade promotion that will draw a retailer to consider the product. The main objective here is getting Terry Welsh s product, Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner, onto the shelves of major and local retailers, along with being used by body shops. Terry must strategically create a plan that will be affordable to himself, along with being persuasive enough for some retailers to self his product. Slotting Fee Promotion At this time, it would be best for Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner to offer a slotting fee, combined with testimonials from the retailers and customers who are already using the product and samples. Although controversial (BOOK), it is not an easy task for an unrecognized company to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Clash Of Civilisations By Samuel Huntington Political scientist Samuel Huntington in his article, The Clash of Civilisations , argues a new concept predicting the primary origin of future conflicts. His hypothesis follows the idea that the cause of conflict will fundamentally begin due to the clash of people s cultural and religious identities. Written from a post cold war perspective in 1993, Huntington discusses how future wars will follow a similar pattern. He focuses especially on the impact of the dominant civilizationof the West against the world s contrasting civilizations. Huntington s primary focus of the West as a dominating force against the rest is one critique of his argument. In addition, Huntington s definition of a civilization is also very open ended and takes an idealistic approach to what a civilization is. His single minded hypothesis often ignores evidence of past conflicts and takes a very black and white approach to us versus them . However, ignorance fueled acts towards different cultures have caused conflicts, and Huntington does hold merit in terms of conflict being caused by clashing cultures in his argument. One flaw in Huntington s argument is clearly shown through the lack of a universal definition of what a civilization is and over generalizes the concept. He takes a linear approach by labeling a civilization as a significant grouping of people who all share a dominant identity. This is categorized by religion, language, institutions etc. However, civilizations do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Cross Cultural Interview Cross Cultural Interview Culture can be defined as a set of practices, traditions, values, or beliefs a group of people share, whether it be due to ethnicity, gender, age, or even religion. Having different cultures in a work place can effectively make a business stronger, especially in the United States where it is known a the melting pot. I know that in the future I could possibly work at a pharmacy that has employees from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, learning now how to understand and be more aware of these differences would be most beneficial. What better way to do so than to interview someone who is as far from being the same as myself as possible. For this interview, I chose to ask a crew trainer I know personally named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the interview he stated, in order to be happy in business, one has to learn to respect the abilities, efforts, quirks and opinions of others. I believe that there are various ways in which individuals can show respect while in business. According to Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock (2000), gratitude is of essence in any business. While in business dealings, one is always expected to ensure that they thank their business colleagues whenever they have done business by assisting or supporting them in whatever manner. This can be achieved through sending emails, texts, calls to individuals that you always do business with. Smith also said that sincerity is one of the major aspects that one can show respect when in business. While I do believe telling the truth is the best policy as well, sometimes being brutally honest in this world can bring consequences. Many individuals usually do not like when they are told the truth especially if it is negative (Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock, 2000). With this being said I was quite puzzled by Smith s response. So I asked him how being sincere showed respect. He replied that to show respect in business one should be sincere while thanking them for their efforts, assistance or good ... • 9. Common Forms Of Collective Behavior Collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in which large numbers of people engage. More specifically, collective behavior refers to relatively spontaneous and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or being influenced by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous means that the behavior is somewhat spontaneous but also somewhat planned, while relatively unstructured means that the behavior is somewhat organized and predictable but also somewhat unorganized and unpredictable. As a whole, though, collective behavior is regarded as less spontaneous and less structured than conventional behavior, such as what happens in a classroom, a workplace, or the other settings for everyday behavior with which we are very familiar. As just noted, the term collective behavior refers to a miscellaneous set of behaviors. As such, these behaviors often have very little in common with each other, even if their basic features allow them to be classified as collective behavior. Common forms of collective behavior discussed in this section include crowds, mobs, panics, riots, disaster behavior, rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes. Of these forms, some (crowds, panics, riots, and disasters) involve people who are generally in each other s presence and who are more or less interacting with each other, while other forms (rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes) involve people ... For instance, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier Nick Fury was chased after agents claiming to work for local law enforcement and S.H.I.E.L.D. To hide from these men, fury went to Rodger`s home, informing him how S.H.I.E.L.D was compromised. Soon after, he was shot by the Winter Soldier. Fury later died while surgeon`s were trying to save him. The Captain made it is mission to figure out who compromised S.H.I.E.L.D and to serve them justice for their role in Fury`s death. In the United States we also have a strong sense of justice. We have an entire system that is devoted to serve justice to those have committed crimes. Another value that is important to Steve Rodgers is courage. As a superhero, one cannot be easily frightened. Therefore, Captain America is not afraid to risk his life to save others. Throughout the move he is not apprehensive about jumping out of planes, or fighting ten enemies in an elevator. In the movie, his tremendous example of courage is towards the end. The Captain was in charge of overriding the software for the three ships. This would result in the three ships blowing up. Third party use of bull marks does not weaken the Lamborghinis mark because none of the third party marks are in Lamborghini s relevant market. • 12. Prescriptive Norms Research Paper Question No 1 Answer: prescriptive and proscriptive norms: Prescriptive norms are silently understood precepts of expected behavior, closely related to manners and good conduct, while proscriptive norms are taboo or otherwise unacceptable actions and behaviors that likewise remain undiscussed. Both sets of norms differ between cultures. Both prescriptive and proscriptive norms are defined by the expectation that individuals will intuit their existence while growing to adulthood and entering society. They are seldom discussed openly or in conversation, existing instead as a kind of road map for general behavior. Examples of prescriptive norms include: Writing thank you cards after receiving a gift Accepting a proffered handshake Returning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One group may consider a norm prescriptive while another group might regard it as proscriptive. In the United States, kissing the cheek of our friend is regarded as prescriptive folkway but it is proscriptive mores among Muslims especially when it is done in opposite sexes because this is considered strange. Chinese locals in Guangzi province consider eating live fish a prescriptive folkway but the Chinese in some part of Hongkong call it an unusual eating behavior. Moreover, norms like eating bugs in Thailand, Nepal and Malaysia is a prescriptive folkway but it is proscriptive folkway in some neighboring countries like Singapore and Taiwan. This is a proof that norms vary. Also, norms in one group may be considered prescriptive during one time and it may later be considered as proscriptive or vice versa from proscriptive to prescriptive. For example, the Protestants 20 years ago frown at going to theatres or pubs but now it is an accepted folkway. The Pakistanis and Indians prescribe the wearing of turban in their ancient culture but now we can see it to be proscriptive in some cultural groups especially those who are in the United States. Some of the animals in the badger s diet include woodrats, prairie dogs, kangaroo rats, pika, pocket gophers, marmots, moles, ground squirrels, deer mice, and voles. The badger is also a huge consumer of snakes. In South Dakota the badger is the most dominant predator of rattlesnakes, making the badger very important to the ecosystem. They also prey on ground nesting birds like burrowing owls, and bank swallow. Some of the smaller things the badger preys on would be insects such as bees, and reptiles like lizards, and fish and skunks. Mutualism: The coyote and badger is a great example of mutualism. Coyotes normally don t hunt in packs or in tight knit groups but is often found hunting with the badger. The best example would be hunting in prairie dog fields. The coyote takes the prairie dogs on the ground while scaring other dogs into their holes where the badger is. When the badger hunts underground catching it s prey it also scares dogs up to the ground where the coyote is. So basically the badger and coyote work together to corner up the prairie dogs and eat until they get their fill. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Role Of The Puritans The Puritans The Puritans were a group of people who were set out to get away from the British colony. They came into America to start a new life set apart from their past experiences in a monarch society. Their intentions were to purify the churches of England of their Catholic way. They are a group who worship the Bible. They expect all other Puritans to know their Ten Commandments. They are one of the first groups to inhabit America. The first actual people were the Native Americans and then the Pilgrims. There is a difference between the pilgrims and the puritans. The difference is that the pilgrims came to America to get away from the Church of England and be separate. They want to separate because they believe that England is violating the rules of the Bible. The Puritans also came to get away from the church because they believed that the church in England still needed further reform. That is why they started their own church in America, so they can make their own rules and be free. The play is about the group of puritans who came to start their church in Salem. In the beginning, there was little talk of witchcraft (Wiggins, 2012). People were starting to grow suspicious of Parris because his slave and niece and a couple other girls were dancing in the woods (Wiggins, 2012). Also his daughter was in a coma and would not wake up. Eventually he decided to call in Hale, who is a professional with witchcraft, to determine what was going on. Although he was said to be professional, later on we come to find out that he was starting to think he was wrong but he keeps that to himself (Wiggins, 2012). Then towards the end after there had been many deaths, he decides to tell them that they are innocent. The judge tells him that many have been hung already, so they cannot stop now because that would be unfair. What this passage says is, they are a group who believes in the bible and worship the bible, and they are strict on witchcraft (Wiggins, 2012). If somebody accuses someone of witchcraft, the only way to live is to confess that you are working with the devil. It also shows how harsh the court is and how they do not let anybody be considered innocent by making them lie to the court or they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A SWOT analysis can be applied in conjunction with these to highlight the strengths weaknesses and the opportunities and threats that will impact the practice (See Appendix III) Figure 1 Workforce Management Tools (WFM) are utilised to allocate tasks to individual skills, with time lines and other parameters. Wade, women were guaranteed, under a right to privacy in which the woman has the right to choose whether or not to get an abortion, however, this right was not confirmed to be absolute. Nearly 20 years later, in the case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the central holdings of Roe v. Wadewere reaffirmed, by providing limits in which federal and state governments can regulate abortion. Unfortunately, conflict arose between Casey and Roe, when trying to ensure the woman still has a right to choose, which lead to allowing a prohibition of late term abortions, unless the health of the mother was at stake. Next, in 2000, the case of Stenberg v. Carhart forced the court to consider a Nebraska state law that was passed banning late term abortions and whether the statute was unconstitutional, which it was found to be, because the statute did not include an exception for the health of the mother and that the language used was so broad that it burdened a woman s right to choose. Then, in 2007, the case of Gonzales v. Carhart raised the issue once again on a federal law that had been passed, the Partial Birth Ban Act of 2003. The lower courts claimed it to be unconstitutional because of the lack of exception for the health of the mother. • 35. The Ascent Of Money Summary In The Ascent of Money Niall Ferguson gives an in depth historical look at money and finance. He begins with ancient banking practices in ancient Mesopotamia, and finishes his book with his predictions for the near future based on patterns that he sees. In the book he discusses the rise of money and credit; the bondmarket; the stock market; insurance; real estate; and international finance. Niall Fergusson believes that finance and money was made as a necessity for urbanization and development, but that every time there has been an international globalized system set up, that it results in disaster. There has always been trade between people from different areas, but when it is on a massive global scale it results in disaster. His premise is that the first true globalized economy led to WWI, and that the United States is headed for a military showdown with China. In the first chapter titled Dreams of Avarice: the Rise of Money and Credit discusses the origins of money and credit and how it has come to help shape the modern economy. Fergusson says that money had its origins in Mesopotamia as clay tablets which were recording transactions such as for agrarian. He also says that credit was given by a Mesopotamian family to people as far away as in Persia in order to purchase homes. I thought that that was very interesting. All societies have supported heroes, like the ancient Greek s Hercules and the modern day Spiderman. These are hero stereotypes, with supernatural powers. In the end, both succeeded, Grendel was killed, and sir Gawain received his blow, and stayed alive, but both had consequences. Beowulf s friends got killed, and later on Grendel s mother attacks him, and sir Gawain had been given a cut to his neck, and lost his honor. The test the heroes have to face, is often put up by a villain, and both have their fair share of villains. In Beowulf the enemy is a dark monster, which eats human and has super strength, enough to bend iron. In Sir Gawain, the apparent villain is the green knight, who challenges sir Gawain to a grueling beheading contest . After it s head falls off, he is not harmed, so he has some weird magical qualities. Both have supernatural powers and striking appearances, but the difference is that in sir Gawain and the green knight, the green knight is just the master of the kingdom in disguise, testing the nobility of King Arthur s knights, and not a mortal enemy.
